What two wildly different songs. One for a hyper specific au and another I'll just throw onto any old OC lmao.

Metaphor is a song I tend to toss into all of my OC playlists, perhaps as an extension of my own feelings about myself that get passed onto them. But If I had to choose a character that best suits the lyrics, it'd be Siren. She's a "villain" she's a construction of her trauma built around a vulnerable shell. Don't look too close. She doesn't want anyone to see inside, lest they be hurt too.

PERFECT MACHINE is for the au of Zib where he gets got by the control brains that I made with @faithfulwhispers. I think she introduced me to the song in the first place. It's the manipulation vibes, being molded by something that definitely doesn't have your best interests in mind. It's a fun one

DTIYS Contest Drabble: FaithfulWhispers

For @faithfulwhispers. I loved writing this one! Faith wanted a take on a ZaDf interaction between Zim and Dib when they were a little older. My mind went a little wild and I decided to turn it into a full-on setup for a vacation buddy-story to a sort of “space Las Vegas” to celebrate Dib graduating from filthy Earth college. Hope you enjoy!

“That it?” Dib ducked down to peer into the dark storage hatch of Zim’s Voot. Vermillion eyes glinted back at him, practically glowing in the low light. Dib had seen them glint like this many times over the years. This time, though, the emotion behind them had shifted from maliciousness to something resembling enthusiasm. 

“Ugh, yes!” Zim chirped. “Would have been done packing ages ago if it wasn’t for all your stupid…” he waved his hand around, trying to think of the word he was looking for. 

“Clothes? Toiletries? Things I need to live?” 

Zim scowled at Dib’s crooked grin.

They had traveled through space many times before, but scarcely ever were they in the same ship. Just as scarcely were they on good terms with one another. The last several years had seen a paramount turnabout in their relationship. Animosity was now an odd sort of friendship riddled with some of the same insults, some of the same nicknames, but none of the old intent. 

It was just after Dib’s graduation, and Zim had suggested a trip to the Socious Solar System to celebrate (“It’s been years since I last saw it!”) He went on to talk about his old squadron’s trip to the various planets, which Dib silently noted sounded like intergalactic versions of Monte Carlo or Vegas. He also noted that Zim’s stories had a distant sort of quality to them, as if he had never really been invited in the first place. 

“We’ll make it the best trip yet!” Dib had added after Zim’s initial suggestion. He found himself saying it again now, right after closing the cockpit and waving goodbye to GIR as they departed for the stars.

So… my beautiful, best wife @faithfulwhispers surprised me with an early birthday gift! Glossy, metallic and gorgeous prints of our pieces and some she made just for me.

I adore them all so much… but let’s give a small detail.

Top left- My AU “The cotton Candy incident” she had done as a STUNNING stained glass piece. This is my phone background.

Top middle- collab for my AU. I drew it for Inktober and my girl colored it for me with her magic ways

Top right- collab for bamsara’s AU. I did the line work and Faith did the coloring.

Bottom middle(ish)- drawn by Faith, Zim being adorable in Autumn weather. This is my watch background.

SCENT OF STEAM CONTEST WINNERS

Thank you to everyone who joined the first SCENT OF STEAM art contest, for the band @scentofsteam!! Every entry received was appreciated, and it meant a lot to us to have you guys enjoy the music and create something from it. Both myself and the band were judges for the entries, and the results and commentary are down below. I will be DM'ing the winners individually for their prizes~

1ST PLACE - @nichiperi

Scent of Steam: This fits the vibe of Emotions are Social perfectly. A quiet loneliness with an ever watching eye. Bleeding in a monitored solitude. Not to mention the composition used in this piece. The bright contrasts draw your attention into every detail. BananaZim: This piece feels like it should be one of the classics you see in museums, from the decaying texture on the canvas, to the classic style of painting/shading/coloring/shapes. The colors used in this piece are immediately attention-grabbing, and the composition is elegance at its finest. The eye in the sky is an immediate winner, too - this piece is something burned into my brain, and I constantly think of it.

2ND PLACE - chxoticspecter (Instagram)

Scent of Steam: I feel this piece not only comments on Emotions are Social, but the album as a whole. The caskets pointing venomously towards the bleeding heart while eyes drip with memories of blood from the bottom. Absolutely fantastic.

BananaZim: I knew the moment I saw this, it was instantly placed for a winning spot. The anatomical heart is a symbol close to my own, and the gradients add such a powerful touch here. I also love the fine details on the heart and the coffins around it. It perfectly captures the song.

3RD PLACE -@faithfulwhispers-art

Scent of Steam: Dark, decaying, empty. Like someone wandering through old, decrepit memories, unable to escape. Things they no longer wish to see but are forced to relive again and again. As the years move on, the place the memories reside begins to crumble and distort, yet they cannot leave. A perfect fit for Room in the House of Lore.

BananaZim: Faith has a talent to take a song and create the exact imagery and environment the song is projecting. It was pretty damn spooky just how perfectly this piece was set up, from the broken down house, to the construction pieces in the back, to the foreground pieces. Also, the entire thing is glazed over in this dark, rich red, showcasing the artist's coloring skills.. I love how this draws you in.

HONORABLE MENTION - @spanglespants

Scent of Steam: This was heavily considered for 3rd place and needed to have at least a mention made. I find myself with this image in my head quite a lot. Not this exact picture, but the dark silhouettes of power lines and trees, with the last dying lights of the sun illuminating the horizon. This has always been a scene that has attracted my eyes, with the anticipation of the stars coming out for the night. This moment is captured perfectly in this picture.

BananaZim: Scent of Steam and I were sold on this photograph when we saw it. As stated, it absolutely needed to be recognized in our results as an honorable mention. The lavender/blue sky that has just a single star and the distant moon, to the telephone lines... It whispers to me a liminal space, or a wash of nostalgia. It also was a beautiful fit to the album, and to the songs referenced, and it deserves more eyes on it.

FIRST THOUGHT: i don’t really think anybody is actually reading these for one 😂 not unless there’s a picture involved or something

So here’s an extremely cropped out of context image from a iz comic i drew last year that no one is allowed to ever see for arbitrary reasons 💕

I do this sort of thing on my own time a lot. The comic drawing i mean. Or animatics which i have a plethora of. The upside of never posting anything is that i don’t have to deal with people with large hubrises coming to add their two cents when i didn’t ask for it
