How to step out of a brand new jet at under 200 ft and have a laugh about it afterwards...😳 The date was March 20th, 1968, and this brand-new F-4J - just off the assembly line - was taking off on a test flight when this stunning event unfolded. Fortunately, both C. D. "Pete" Pilcher (Production Test Pilot) and Harvey A. Begay (Radar Observer) ejected safely. I just love how they casually walk over to the ejection seat on the runway whilst having a little chuckle “well there’s your problem!”. Turns out the problem was FOD in the cockpit.
