how old were u when u started animating? and do u know any easy to use programs/methods of digital animation that dont entail buying a $900 software package like toon boom (preferably one that doesn't involve exporting files from an art program :')) ty and i love ur work!!!

I guess I technically started animating in elementary school. I made these little clay dinosaurs and shot SUPER LIMITED stop motion with my dad’s tape recorder (I would set up the camera and press the record button on and off super fast to simulate a “frame” of animation). I think this was really formative for me because it helped me digest the concept of animation at such an early age. So that when I started getting into 2d animation in middle school, the concept of animation was already easy for me to understand.

OK SO! I’m gonna toss out some software suggestions now, but some of them might be outdated, so sorry in advance if they are. There was one called Pencil Animation that I played around with a lot when I was first trying to animate digitally. It was a really simple, easy to understand software that was offered for free at the time (but that was at least 8 years ago.) There was ALSO a freeware available for windows called EZtoon, but I’m almost POSITIVE it’s outdated by now. 

I also had a cheap student version of Toom Boom Studio in high school. I know that Toon Boom currently offers pretty expensive softwares, but you can always check to see if they have student discounts, or cheap student versions.

I’ve also heard that the software Krita has an animation feature to it? I don’t have any personal experience with it, but might be worth looking into.

And if all else fails, traditional flipbooks are always fun to mess around with.

If anyone else has some animation software suggestions, drop a comment! I’m sure there are loads out there that I don’t know about aha. ***Yo everyone check out the comments, lots of good suggestions***

***ALSO how could i forget...if you have photoshop, there’s actually a timeline feature. If you have version (I think) cs5 or higher, you can download a free plugin called AnimDessin, which makes it so much easier to animate in photoshop. I used this one a lot my first two years in college! Very useful especially if you love photoshop brushes.

Eztoon is the person who made the stick, not the stick itself, the orginal video was called “stickfigure vs wall” (or something like that) so really they should be called Wall /j

Calling them Eztoon is like calling Frankenstein’s monster Frankenstein.

I'm naming them after their reference, since calling them by their name, "stickfigure" doesn't exactly mean anything, and considering the reference, naming them "Wall" would just name it after the Wall that does already exist.

Also EzToon isn't a person, it's a program. 💀
