Phantom of the Opera and the 1871 Paris Commune in 2023
Thanks to everyone who participated in PotO Paris Commune Week 2023, whether through writing new fic or supporting the work of others. There were two new PotO-Commune fics this year:
Peculiarities on the Rue de Rivoli by @m2-km:  In the midst of the Bloody Week of the Paris Commune, the Persian finds two unexpected visitors outside his flat on the Rue de Rivoli. Senjyuushi crossover.
Far from Home by @textsfromthefifthbasement: Christine and her father find themselves in Paris at the time of the 1871 Commune.
And some new(ish) meta:
Interview with historian Mitch Abidor on Gaston Leroux’s Phantom of the Opera
Some lively conversation about Erik and anarchy in the comments of an old post about Émile Henry’s possible influence on Leroux. The connections between Leroux’s experiences covering the 1894 trials and executions of three anarchists and Erik’s rantings about the Commune in the novel are worth exploring further.
There are now 16 Phantom of the Opera fics under the PotO_Paris_Commune_1871 collection on AO3. And there are even more Commune fics which you can find by searching the tag Paris Commune.
Tumblr media
As June 5 is Barricade Day for the Les Mis fandom, here are some fics that bring 1832 characters into the events of 1871:
Le Temps des Cerises by spadeK: Les Mis AU, Les Amis de l'ABC but during the 1871 Commune. This fic is in Chinese, but I was able to enjoy reading it through Google Translate.
历史的回响 (Echoes of History) by Lingling_E:  Les Mis AU, Based on Volume III, Book IV, Chapter V Enlargement of Horizon, another Chinese language fic that places Les Amis in the Paris Commune. This one includes Marius and Enjolras.
The Family Pontmercy by  red__carnations: Time goes by. Cosette and Marius start their own little family.
Hope by @textsfromthefifthbasement: An older Cosette lives through yet another revolution in Paris. One night at the beginning of the semaine sanglante, she has a mysterious visitor. Les Mis/PotO crossover.

NASA’s Cold Atom Lab Sets Stage for Quantum Chemistry in Space
The remotely operated facility aboard the International Space Station has created another tool that researchers can use to probe the fundamental nature of the world around us.
For the first time in space, scientists have produced a quantum gas containing two types of atoms. Accomplished with NASA’s Cold Atom Laboratory aboard the International Space Station, the achievement marks another step toward bringing quantum technologies currently available only on Earth into space.
Quantum tools are already used in everything from cellphones to GPS to medical devices. In the future, they could be used to enhance the study of planets, including our own, and help solve mysteries of the universe while deepening our understanding of the fundamental laws of nature.
The new work, performed remotely by scientists on Earth, is described in the Nov. 16 issue of the journal Nature.
With this new capability, the Cold Atom Lab can now study not only the quantum properties of individual atoms, but also quantum chemistry, which focuses on how different types of atoms interact and combine with each other in a quantum state. Researchers will be able to conduct a wider range of experiments with Cold Atom Lab and learn more about the nuances of performing them in microgravity. That knowledge will be essential for harnessing the one-of-a-kind facility to develop new space-based quantum technologies.
Quantum Chemistry
The physical world around us depends on atoms and molecules staying bound together according to an established set of rules. But different rules can dominate or weaken depending on the environment the atoms and molecules are in – like microgravity. Scientists using the Cold Atom Lab are exploring scenarios where the quantum nature of atoms dominates their behaviors. For example, instead of acting like solid billiard balls, the atoms and molecules behave more like waves.
In one of those scenarios, the atoms in two- or three-atom molecules can remain bound together but grow increasingly far apart, almost as though the molecules are getting fluffy. To study these states, scientists first need to slow the atoms down. They do this by cooling them to fractions of a degree above the lowest temperature matter can reach, far colder than anything found in the natural universe: absolute zero, or minus 459 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 273 degrees Celsius).
Physicists have created these fluffy molecules in cold atom experiments on the ground, but they are extremely fragile and either break apart quickly or collapse back down to a normal molecular state. For that reason, enlarged molecules with three atoms have never been directly imaged. In the microgravity of the space station, the fragile molecules can exist for longer and potentially get larger, so physicists are excited to start experimenting with the Cold Atom Lab’s new capability.
These types of molecules likely don’t occur in nature, but it’s possible they could be used to make sensitive detectors that can reveal subtle changes in the strength of a magnetic field, for example, or any of the other disturbances that cause them to break apart or collapse.
“What we’re doing with cold atom science in general is looking for and learning about new tools that nature gives us,” said Jason Williams of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California, project scientist for the Cold Atom Lab and a co-author on the new study. “It’s like we’ve discovered a hammer and we’re just starting to investigate all the ways we could use it.”
A Modern Mystery
One possible way of using a quantum gas with two types of atoms would be to test something called the equivalence principle, which holds that gravity affects all objects the same way regardless of their mass. It’s a principle that many physics teachers will demonstrate by putting a feather and a hammer in a sealed vacuum chamber and showing that, in the absence of air friction, the two fall at the same rate. In 1971, Apollo 15 astronaut David Scott did this experiment on the Moon’s surface without the need for a vacuum chamber.
Using an instrument called an atom interferometer, scientists have already run experiments on Earth to see if the equivalence principle holds true at atomic scales. Using a quantum gas with two types of atoms and an interferometer in the microgravity of the space station, they could test the principle with more precision than what’s possible on Earth. Doing so, they might learn whether there’s a point where gravity doesn’t treat all matter equally, indicating Albert Einstein’s general theory of relativity contains a small error that could have big implications.
The equivalence principle is part of the general theory of relativity, the backbone of modern gravitational physics, which describes how large objects, like planets and galaxies, behave. But a major mystery in modern physics is why the laws of gravity don’t seem to match up with the laws of quantum physics, which describe the behaviors of small objects, like atoms. The laws of both fields have proven to be correct again and again in their respective size realms, but physicists have been unable to unite them into a single description of the universe as a whole.
Looking for features of gravity not explained by Einstein’s theory is one way to search for a means of unification.
Better Sensors
Scientists already have ideas to go beyond testing fundamental physics in microgravity inside the Cold Atom Lab. They have also proposed space-based experiments that could use a two-atom interferometer and quantum gases to measure gravity with high precision in order to learn about the nature of dark energy, the mysterious driver behind the accelerating expansion of the universe. What they learn could lead to the development of precision sensors for a wide range of applications.
The quality of those sensors will depend on how well scientists understand the behavior of these atoms in microgravity, including how those atoms interact with each other. The introduction of tools to control the atoms, like magnetic fields, can make them repel each other like oil and water or stick together like honey. Understanding those interactions is a key goal of the Cold Atom Lab.

Voyage of the Nautilus Liveblog: The Pros and Cons
In the meantime, then, I was busy classifying my mineralogical, botanical, and zoological treasures when that incident took place with the Scotia.
I kind of am obsessed with Arronax already, classifying his naturalist treasures. I do love a naturalist.
Something was out there, that much was certain, and any doubting Thomas was invited to place his finger on the Scotia’s wound.
This is hilarious.
But this hypothesis of a war machine collapsed in the face of formal denials from the various governments.
Of course, obviously the hypothesis collapsed in the face of denials from the governments. It’s not like government's have histories of denying projects of mass destruction.
Seriously though I feel like this hypothesis is dismissed way too quickly? Like it feels like there should be a bit more investigating beyond just government statements?
“The common narwhale, or sea unicorn, often reaches a length of sixty feet. Increase its dimensions fivefold or even tenfold, then give this cetacean a strength in proportion to its size while enlarging its offensive weapons, and you have the animal we’re looking for. It would have the proportions determined by the officers of the Shannon, the instrument needed to perforate the Scotia, and the power to pierce a steamer’s hull.
I have to say, even though I know what’s going on, I’m pretty convinced by this explanation? It makes a lot of sense and just feels right? Of course a narwhale horn could be what pierced the ship in that exact way! Of course there are mysteries we don’t know in the deep ocean!
“This inexplicable phenomenon is thus explained away—unless it’s something else entirely, which, despite everything that has been sighted, studied, explored and experienced, is still possible!”
Always good to cover your basis just in case! This is just very amusing and real feeling.

DLC: Jaws of Hakkon - Frostback Basin, Nigel's point
Tumblr media
This was one of the ruins that the explorer Ser Nigel visited on his travels through the Frostbacks. Its Tevinter name has been lost to the ages.
[This is part of the series “Playing DA like an archaeologist”]
[Index page of Dragon Age Lore ]
Tumblr media
We are introduced to this place via the codex Nigel's Point by Collete. Colette is Professor Kenric's research assistant and one of the few elven students at the University of Orlais. The little we saw of her interpretations and preciseness in the gathering of evidence, we can consider her a proper researcher who will probably enjoy other researchers as precise as her, [unlike that fucker Orlesian in Exalted Plains who called a statue of Fen'Harel a "broken dog"]
Sadly, part of her base knowledge of this ruin comes from a previous explorer she respects: Ser Nigel. He has written several codices in this area, and despite being appreciated by a meticulous researcher such as Collete, he seems to have little recognition in the academia compared to Brother Genitivi.  So, if I don’t trust Genitivi, I find less reasons to trust this Sir, to be honest. So his opinion will be barely taken into account except when the evidence seems to confirm his words.
This ancient Tevinter ruin lost its name and purpose ages ago. Collete tells us that these Tevinter Ruins were the first structures in this area, and the Tevinter presence lasted really little. Then, Ancient Avvar used the place, and later, Ameridan saw it in a similar shape as we see it now.
We can explore this ruin and see what details has to offer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In a falling apart corner of this place we find one of these objects that we learnt via concept art that represents urns. It triggers a note that ends up being a prayer for Razikale, Dragon of Mystery. Several of these inscriptions can be found in this area and are analysed in the post of Tevinter presence in Frostback Basin.
Tumblr media
We can see the architecture is ancient Tevinter, displaying the same iconography, patterns, and style than the ruins we saw in Western Approach.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The building has a lot of claws that stand out from the stone
Tumblr media
One of the most unsettling parts for me is this one. On a battlement of this building, we find this massive skeleton. The supposition most aligned to the occam’s razor is to think that this was a giant slaved by Tevinter, meaning that Tevinter has been slaving giants since before the Blights. After all, we saw that the Venatori had a tradition in using them for raw brute force tasks. If this is true, then the tale of the ice-troll seems to be unlikely, at least the part in which a giant made Tevinter leave a zone.
Tumblr media
However, I think it’s a wrong supposition: this skeleton has no tusks nor one eye sock as the giants in DAI have. So this skeleton is simply a humanoid one enlarged, which is strange.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The ruin is half falling apart. We can see the claws have a base which looks like a pyramid made with different pointy squares.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are big octagonal structures and frame doors that present an intricate pattern that we saw in previous Tevinter ruins.
Tumblr media
In one of the rooms in the open of this ruin we find this Tevinter artefact with spikes
Tumblr media
On a side, we have access to a balcony, where an andrastian statue was placed, and at its base, there is an elven urn open. The presence of this statue has to do with Ameridan: Avvars who respected the fighting skills of Ameridan’s  companions were honoured with this statue in these ancient Tevinter ruins. The details are shared by Collete:
Tumblr media
At the base of the statue we find a book [I assume it is Collete’s] that triggers the poem The Hunt of the Fell Wolf where we read the story about Ameridan and his Templar friend fighting a Fell Wolf demon who wounded severely the Templar.  Apparently it narrates about an "idol of fade-touched stone" that would destroy the demon. The tale ends well with both wining against the beast and the spirit.
Tumblr media
We talk with Collete about this finding:
This statue with its inscription seem to be a tribute to Ameridan’s Templar friend and his dwarven alchemist friend. They bought time  for Ameridan against the Ancient Avvar while he continued with this quest.
It’s implied that Orinna, despite being a dwarf, had developed unique techniques to combat demons.
Haron, the templar companion, was one of the first Tempalrs in the order when it was starting. He is the most famous templar of the original ones.

From Beyond (1986)
Tumblr media
From Beyond is a backup/substitute movie. In tone, it’s similar to Re-Animator. The nauseating special effects will remind you of The Thing. The mix of bizarre eroticism and horror is akin to that of Hellraiser. There are many others you can compare it to but you get the idea. The thing is, you would never recommend this 1986 film by Stuart Gordon over any of those but if you’ve seen them so many times you’ve memorized all the best parts and you want something like them but not them, this is the movie for you.
Dr. Edward Pretorious (Ted Sorel) has developed the Resonator, a machine that allows humans to see the unseen creatures that live inside our space but outside of our realm. Unfortunately, the machine also allows them to see us. Pretorious is attacked and killed by a creature from this realm and his assistant, Dr. Crawford Tillinghast (Jeffrey Combs) is accused of his murder. His claims of invisible monsters make everyone think he’s crazy, except for Dr. Katherine McMichaels (Barbara Crampton) isn’t so sure.
The best thing about “From Beyond” is that it knows exactly what sort of movie it is. Writer/director Stuart Gordon (who wrote the screenplay with Brian Yuzna and Dennis Paoli) has no delusions about who is watching and what they want to see. He knows this isn’t some deep tale about the human condition. This is a sleazy, campy horror comedy. It grosses you out. It loses its mind. It doesn’t quite hold up logistically. None of that matters. There’s a lot of gore, plenty of nudity and kink, tasteless depictions of mental health, outlandish characters, and it’s all the better for it. Science runs amok, Eyeballs get sucked out of people’s heads, brains enlarge until they crack through skulls, and you get all sorts of phallic and uncomfortable-looking beasts sliming all over Barbara Crampton. From Beyond knows that you could probably tell this story with a straight face but that it would be all too easy to try, fail, and become the subject of ridicule. Instead, it beats the audience to the punch by making fun of itself - which is not the same as attempting to make a movie that’s “so bad it’s good” on purpose.
The most memorable aspect of this film are the terrific special effects. The primary monster goes through all sorts of transformations/shapes and it’s made extra discomfiting by this running theme of a quasi-masochistic obsession that develops in anyone exposed to the Resonator. It’s funny, and a bit unsettling too despite never being adequately explored. It feels like there’s a scene with Pretorious missing, the one extra point needed to make this more than a weird addition. There's the beginning of an idea present. What kind of horror might emerge from someone who can only get it up by inflicting pain, or from an overly stimulated part of the brain that draws us to danger even though logic says we should stay away?
The performances aren’t bad, but they’re not great either. It would’ve been nice if they were just the teensiest bit better. The story would’ve benefited either from holding onto its mystery for longer or finding a way to avoid the machine being turned on and off over and over. I don’t know if we necessarily need a remake, however. As-is, From Beyond looks great and you just know a new adaptation of the H.P. Lovecraft story just wouldn’t be the same in terms of tone or humor. What we need are other movies influenced by this one, or that push some aspects of it a little further. Thankfully, there are plenty.
It’s difficult to imagine someone calling From Beyond their favorite movie. Not because of the uncomfortable horror elements (I’m pretty sure one of the genre’s objectives is to make you uneasy). Because it doesn't do anything better than everybody else. This doesn’t mean it’s bad. It means this is a film that’s comfortable with holding onto its silver medal. There’s nothing wrong with that. One thing’s for sure; it’s memorable and has a certain undiscernable quality that’ll get you coming back to it. (March 4, 2022)

Unlocking the Secrets of Microneedling: A Guide to Radiant Skin
Tumblr media
In the pursuit of flawless skin, the beauty industry is constantly evolving, introducing innovative techniques that promise to rejuvenate and revitalize. One such game-changer gaining traction is microneedling. This minimally invasive procedure involves the use of tiny needles to stimulate the skin's natural healing processes, leading to a plethora of benefits. In this comprehensive guide, we will unravel the mysteries of microneedling, exploring its origins, the science behind it, the procedure itself, and the remarkable results it can achieve.
Understanding Microneedling: The Basics
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, involves the use of a device equipped with fine needles that puncture the skin's surface. The procedure is designed to create controlled micro-injuries, prompting the skin to initiate its natural repair mechanisms. The targeted micro-injuries stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, two essential proteins responsible for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness.
The Science Behind Microneedling: How It Works
At its core, microneedling capitalizes on the body's natural healing response. When the skin experiences micro-injuries, it perceives them as a signal to produce more collagen. Collagen, the structural protein abundant in the skin, provides support and resilience. By inducing controlled damage, microneedling prompts the skin to regenerate and renew itself, leading to improved texture, reduced wrinkles, and an overall more youthful appearance.
The Microneedling Procedure: What to Expect
Before delving into the procedure itself, it's essential to note that microneedling is a versatile treatment suitable for various skin concerns. Whether you're battling acne scars, fine lines, enlarged pores, or uneven skin tone, microneedling holds promise. The procedure typically begins with the application of a topical numbing cream to ensure minimal discomfort. Once the skin is prepared, the microneedling device is gently moved across the treatment area, creating microscopic punctures.
The depth of the needle penetration depends on the specific skin concerns being addressed. Post-procedure, a soothing serum or moisturizer is applied to aid in the healing process. While redness and mild swelling may occur initially, these side effects usually subside within a few days, revealing a radiant and rejuvenated complexion.
Microneedling: The Benefits Unveiled
Microneedling boasts an impressive array of benefits that contribute to its growing popularity. One of its key advantages is its ability to enhance collagen production, promoting skin firmness and elasticity. The procedure also aids in the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, making it a valuable anti-aging tool. Additionally, microneedling can improve the appearance of scars, including those caused by acne or surgery, by encouraging the regeneration of healthy skin cells.
Furthermore, microneedling is known to enhance the absorption of skincare products. The micro-channels created during the procedure allow for better penetration of topical serums, maximizing their effectiveness. This synergy between microneedling and skincare products amplifies the overall impact of the treatment.
Microneedling Myths Debunked
As with any popular beauty treatment, microneedling has its fair share of myths. One common misconception is that microneedling is a painful procedure. In reality, the application of a numbing cream significantly reduces discomfort, making the experience tolerable for most individuals.
Another myth revolves around the downtime associated with microneedling. While mild redness and swelling are normal immediately following the procedure, they typically subside within a few days. Contrary to popular belief, microneedling is not a lengthy process, with sessions lasting anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the treated area.
Microneedling at Home: A Word of Caution
In the age of DIY beauty treatments, at-home microneedling devices have gained popularity. However, it's crucial to exercise caution when considering this option. Professional microneedling sessions are performed by trained professionals who adhere to strict hygiene and safety standards. At-home devices may carry a higher risk of infection and complications if not used properly. Consulting a skincare professional before attempting microneedling at home is advisable to ensure a safe and effective experience.
Conclusion: Embracing Radiant Skin with Microneedling
In the quest for youthful, radiant skin, microneedling emerges as a powerful ally. Its ability to stimulate collagen production, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and improve overall skin texture makes it a versatile and effective treatment. While myths and misconceptions may surround microneedling, understanding the science behind the procedure and debunking common myths can empower individuals to make informed decisions about their skincare journey.
As with any cosmetic procedure, seeking the guidance of a qualified skincare professional is essential to tailor the treatment to individual needs and ensure a safe and successful outcome. Embrace the transformative potential of microneedling and unlock the secrets to radiant, rejuvenated skin. Contact us now!

Better Sensors Scientists already have ideas to go beyond testing fundamental physics in microgravity inside the Cold Atom Lab. Alma Chapter 37. "The Spindles."
Tumblr media
The plates of brass and other scriptures are preserved to bring souls to salvation—The Jaredites were destroyed because of their wickedness—Their secret oaths and covenants must be kept from the people—Counsel with the Lord in all your doings—As the Liahona guided the Nephites, so the word of Christ leads men to eternal life. About 74 B.C. "Insolence" continues.
The Liahona is a spiritual compass. The passages below explain how it helps the heart identify the small, good, wise, and blessed things in life and all the ways they explain the immense Grace of God.
Jaredites are "the descendants" who comprise what is called the genealogy, or the traits and characteristics of mankind that contribute to our understanding of God or lead us into temptation and darkness.
Please note there are 24 Plates of Brass. There are Big Plates and Small Plates, we don't know yet exactly what is on them, but the fat fux in Salt Lake City, completely false prophets and liars don't know either.
One of our objectives of this analysis is to discredit the Apostles (hyuk!) and Quorum of the 70 and get them arrested for their crimes, also to see if we can figure this out and create a very very narrow straight path, a new National Religion for America that leads us, finally, from a country governed by liars, perverts, cheaters, bigots, and fools.
Brass is the most reflective surface in the Torah, it is also an alloy, a blend of other metals. We will explore this below, but why 24, and how the contents are distributed are unknown. Gematria for v. 3 returns a 11425, א‎אדב‎‎ה‎, "A Land", presumably the Promised Land, does not even hint how a genealogy and their Numbers could fit.
24 Plates of Brass returns "The Holy Grail" , "that which is to be pursued."
We know, Helaman, the Dream of Light is needed, so is the Moral Compass, let us continue to explore the Book of Mormon and see if the prophet left more hints:
1 And now, my son Helaman, I command you that ye take the records which have been entrusted with me;
2 And I also command you that ye keep a record of this people, according as I have done, upon the plates of Nephi, and keep all these things sacred which I have kept, even as I have kept them; for it is for a wise purpose that they are kept.
3 And these plates of brass, which contain these engravings, which have the records of the holy scriptures upon them, which have the genealogy of our forefathers, even from the beginning—
4 Behold, it has been prophesied by our fathers, that they should be kept and handed down from one generation to another, and be kept and preserved by the hand of the Lord until they should go forth unto every nation, kindred, tongue, and people, that they shall know of the mysteries contained thereon.
5 And now behold, if they are kept they must retain their brightness; yea, and they will retain their brightness; yea, and also shall all the plates which do contain that which is holy writ.
6 Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise.
7 And the Lord God doth work by means to bring about his great and eternal purposes; and by very small means the Lord doth confound the wise and bringeth about the salvation of many souls.
8 And now, it has hitherto been wisdom in God that these things should be preserved; for behold, they have enlarged the memory of this people, yea, and convinced many of the error of their ways, and brought them to the knowledge of their God unto the salvation of their souls.
9 Yea, I say unto you, were it not for these things that these records do contain, which are on these plates, Ammon and his brethren could not have convinced so many thousands of the Lamanites of the incorrect tradition of their fathers; yea, these records and their words brought them unto repentance; that is, they brought them to the knowledge of the Lord their God, and to rejoice in Jesus Christ their Redeemer.
10 And who knoweth but what they will be the means of bringing many thousands of them, yea, and also many thousands of our stiffnecked brethren, the Nephites, who are now hardening their hearts in sin and iniquities, to the knowledge of their Redeemer?
11 Now these mysteries are not yet fully made known unto me; therefore I shall forbear.
12 And it may suffice if I only say they are preserved for a wise purpose, which purpose is known unto God; for he doth counsel in wisdom over all his works, and his paths are straight, and his course is one eternal round.
13 O remember, remember, my son Helaman, how strict are the commandments of God. And he said: If ye will keep my commandments ye shall prosper in the land—but if ye keep not his commandments ye shall be cut off from his presence.
14 And now remember, my son, that God has entrusted you with these things, which are sacred, which he has kept sacred, and also which he will keep and preserve for a wise purpose in him, that he may show forth his power unto future generations.
15 And now behold, I tell you by the spirit of prophecy, that if ye transgress the commandments of God, behold, these things which are sacred shall be taken away from you by the power of God, and ye shall be delivered up unto Satan, that he may sift you as chaff before the wind.
16 But if ye keep the commandments of God, and do with these things which are sacred according to that which the Lord doth command you, (for you must appeal unto the Lord for all things whatsoever ye must do with them) behold, no power of earth or hell can atake them from you, for God is powerful to the fulfilling of all his words.
17 For he will fulfil all his promises which he shall make unto you, for he has fulfilled his promises which he has made unto our fathers.
18 For he promised unto them that he would preserve these things for a wise purpose in him, that he might show forth his power unto future generations.
19 And now behold, one purpose hath he fulfilled, even to the restoration of amany thousands of the Lamanites to the knowledge of the truth; and he hath shown forth his power in them, and he will also still show forth his power in them unto future generations; therefore they shall be preserved.
20 Therefore I command you, my son Helaman, that ye be diligent in fulfilling all my words, and that ye be diligent in keeping the commandments of God as they are written.
21 And now, I will speak unto you concerning those twenty-four plates, that ye keep them, that the mysteries and the works of darkness, and their secret works, or the secret works of those people who have been destroyed, may be made manifest unto this people; yea, all their murders, and robbings, and their plunderings, and all their wickedness and abominations, may be made manifest unto this people; yea, and that ye preserve these interpreters.
22 For behold, the Lord saw that his people began to work in darkness, yea, work secret murders and abominations; therefore the Lord said, if they did not repent they should be destroyed from off the face of the earth.
23 And the Lord said: I will prepare unto my servant Gazelem, "hidden strength" a stone, which shall shine forth in darkness unto light, that I may discover unto my people who serve me, that I may discover unto them the works of their brethren, yea, their secret works, their works of darkness, and their wickedness and abominations.
24 And now, my son, these interpreters were prepared that the word of God might be fulfilled, which he spake, saying:
25 I will bring forth out of darkness unto light all their secret works and their abominations; and except they repent I will destroy them from off the face of the earth; and I will bring to light all their secrets and abominations, unto every nation that shall hereafter possess the land.
26 And now, my son, we see that they did not repent; therefore they have been destroyed, and thus far the word of God has been fulfilled; yea, their secret abominations have been brought out of darkness and made known unto us.
27 And now, my son, I command you that ye retain all their oaths, and their covenants, and their agreements in their secret abominations; yea, and all their signs and their wonders ye shall keep from this people, that they know them not, lest peradventure they should fall into darkness also and be destroyed.
28 For behold, there is a curse upon all this land, that destruction shall come upon all those workers of darkness, according to the power of God, when they are fully ripe; therefore I desire that this people might not be destroyed.
29 Therefore ye shall keep these secret plans of their oaths and their covenants from this people, and only their wickedness and their murders and their abominations shall ye make known unto them; and ye shall teach them to abhor such wickedness and abominations and murders; and ye shall also teach them that these people were destroyed on account of their wickedness and abominations and their murders.
30 For behold, they murdered all the prophets of the Lord who came among them to declare unto them concerning their iniquities; and the blood of those whom they murdered did cry unto the Lord their God for vengeance upon those who were their murderers; and thus the judgments of God did come upon these workers of darkness and secret combinations.
31 Yea, and cursed be the land forever and ever unto those workers of darkness and secret combinations, even unto destruction, except they repent before they are fully ripe.
32 And now, my son, remember the words which I have spoken unto you; trust not those secret plans unto this people, but teach them an everlasting hatred against sin and iniquity.
33 Preach unto them repentance, and faith on the Lord Jesus Christ; teach them to humble themselves and to be meek and lowly in heart; teach them to withstand every temptation of the devil, with their faith on the Lord Jesus Christ.
34 Teach them to never be weary of good works, but to be meek and lowly in heart; for such shall find rest to their souls.
35 O, remember, my son, and learn wisdom in thy youth; yea, learn in thy youth to keep the commandments of God.
36 Yea, and cry unto God for all thy support; yea, let all thy doings be unto the Lord, and whithersoever thou goest let it be in the Lord; yea, let all thy thoughts be directed unto the Lord; yea, let the affections of thy heart be placed upon the Lord forever.
37 Counsel with the Lord in all thy doings, and he will direct thee for good; yea, when thou liest down at night lie down unto the Lord, that he may watch over you in your sleep; and when thou risest in the morning let thy heart be full of thanks unto God; and if ye do these things, ye shall be lifted up at the last day.
38 And now, my son, I have somewhat to say concerning the thing which our fathers call a ball, or director—or our fathers called it Liahona, which is, being interpreted, a compass; and the Lord prepared it.
39 And behold, there cannot any man work after the manner of so curious a workmanship. And behold, it was prepared to show unto our fathers the course which they should travel in the wilderness.
40 And it did work for them according to their faith in God; therefore, if they had faith to believe that God could cause that those spindles should point the way they should go, behold, it was done; therefore they had this miracle, and also many other miracles wrought by the power of God, day by day.
41 Nevertheless, because those miracles were worked by small means it did show unto them marvelous works. They were slothful, and forgot to exercise their faith and diligence and then those marvelous works ceased, and they did not progress in their journey;
42 Therefore, they tarried in the wilderness, or did not travel a direct course, and were afflicted with hunger and thirst, because of their transgressions.
43 And now, my son, I would that ye should understand that these things are not without a shadow; for as our fathers were slothful to give heed to this compass (now these things were temporal) they did not prosper; even so it is with things which are spiritual.
44 For behold, it is as easy to give heed to the word of Christ, which will point to you a straight course to eternal bliss, as it was for our fathers to give heed to this compass, which would point unto them a straight course to the promised land.
45 And now I say, is there not a type in this thing? For just as surely as this director did bring our fathers, by following its course, to the promised land, shall the words of Christ, if we follow their course, carry us beyond this vale of sorrow into a far better land of promise.
46 O my son, do not let us be slothful because of the easiness of the way; for so was it with our fathers; for so was it prepared for them, that if they would look they might live; even so it is with us. The way is prepared, and if we will look we may live forever.
47 And now, my son, see that ye take care of these sacred things, yea, see that ye look to God and live. Go unto this people and declare the word, and be sober. My son, farewell.
We are not going to find the Engravings in this chapter, we are going to have to read the entire Book of Mormon and see if there are additional details regarding their order and distribution.
The most important element in this chapter is the forbidding of Secret Combinations- corruption caused by secret, ilegal meetings of governmnet, industry, the church, private organizations and the people, just like the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the Republican Party, Walmart, the Marriotts, the Hobby Lobby, the Washington Times, Family Research Council, Heritage Foundation and the Republican National Committee, etc. all terrorist organizations that colluded to throw the 2016 Election have yet to pay for it.
If we read the above, God tells us these evil disgusting persons and their companies and organizations must be exposed to the light of truth, thrown down and never rise up again.
The Spindles of the Liahona, the Moral Compass are our desires. Some of noble, some almost certainly are as the Book of Mormon calls "secret abominations". We simply must become a nation of people that can tell the difference and guide ourselves out of the wildnerness the Mormons and Republicans stranded us in with the false election of Donald Trump to the White House and recover the basic principals of our humanity.
And now, my son, remember the words which I have spoken unto you; trust not those secret plans unto this people, but teach them an everlasting hatred against sin and iniquity.
We simply must do this, we must do this today. If we don't and follow the Compass into the darkness instead, as the stanzas above say, we will be stranded there, possibly forever.

Open pores, those seemingly stubborn imperfections on the skin, have left many searching for answers. Enter Dr. Sunil, Hyderabad's esteemed cosmetologist, here to unravel the mystery. In this comprehensive guide, we explore the reasons behind open pores and delve into Dr. Sunil's expert insights on achieving a smoother, more refined complexion.
The Science of Open Pores
Open pores, or enlarged pores, are a natural part of the skin's texture. They serve as the openings of hair follicles and sebaceous glands, allowing the skin to breathe and regulate oil production. However, certain factors can cause these pores to appear larger and more noticeable, leading to a textured or uneven skin appearance.
Dr. Sunil's Expertise
Drawing from years of experience, Dr. Sunil has identified various culprits that contribute to the appearance of open pores. Understanding these factors is the first step toward effective treatment and prevention.
Genetics: Genetic predisposition plays a significant role in determining skin type and pore size. If your parents have larger pores, you may inherit this trait.
Skin Type: People with oily or combination skin are more prone to open pores. Excess oil production can make pores appear larger and more noticeable.
Aging: As we age, the skin's collagen and elastin levels decrease, causing it to lose its firmness and elasticity. This can lead to sagging around the pores, making them appear larger.
Sun Damage: Prolonged sun exposure damages collagen and elastin fibers, contributing to the loss of skin elasticity and the enlargement of pores.
Clogged Pores: Accumulated dirt, debris, and excess oil can stretch pores and make them more noticeable. This is why a consistent skincare routine is essential.
Incorrect Skincare: Using harsh or comedogenic products can irritate the skin and exacerbate pore issues. Dr. Sunil emphasizes the importance of using products suited to your skin type.
Lifestyle Factors: Poor diet, smoking, and lack of hydration can impact skin health, making open pores more apparent.
Dr. Sunil's Solutions
Dr. Sunil's approach to open pores is rooted in a combination of preventive measures and effective treatments:
Hygiene and Skincare: Proper cleansing and exfoliation help prevent clogged pores, while non-comedogenic products keep the skin balanced.

Nuclei: The Powerhouses Within Atoms
At the heart of every atom lies a small but mighty structure known as the nucleus. This tiny powerhouse is responsible for holding the atom together and harbors an astonishing amount of mass and positive charge. While the nucleus itself occupies only a minuscule fraction of the atom’s volume, its significance cannot be overstated. In this blog, we will delve into the composition, structure, and intriguing phenomena associated with nuclei, such as radioactivity, fission, and fusion.
To grasp the scale of the nucleus, let’s consider the size comparison between the nucleus and the entire atom. The nucleus is remarkably smaller, with dimensions roughly 10,000 times smaller than the atom’s radius. In terms of volume, the nucleus occupies a mere 10^-12 fraction of the atom. Astonishingly, despite its diminutive size, the nucleus holds more than 99.9% of the atom’s mass. To put this into perspective, if we were to enlarge an atom to the size of a classroom, the nucleus would only be as large as a pinhead!
When discussing the mass of atoms, we employ a unit called the atomic mass unit, denoted as ‘u.’ This unit allows us to express atomic masses more conveniently, as the actual mass of an atom is incredibly minute when compared to kilograms. For instance, a carbon atom weighs approximately 1.992647 × 10^-26 kg. By defining 1u as 1/12th of the mass of a carbon-12 (12C) atom, we can establish a reference point. Consequently, 1u is roughly equal to 1.660539 × 10^-27 kg.
Another intriguing aspect of nuclei is the existence of isotopes. Isotopes refer to atomic species of the same element that exhibit identical chemical properties but differ in mass. Virtually all elements consist of a mixture of various isotopes, with the relative abundance varying from one element to another. Consider chlorine, for instance, which has two isotopes with masses of 34.98 u and 36.98 u, respectively. These masses are nearly integral multiples of the mass of a hydrogen atom. The average mass of a chlorine atom is determined by calculating the weighted average of the masses of its isotopes. This concept applies to hydrogen as well, which boasts three isotopes with differing masses.
Now, let’s explore the constituents of the nucleus. Within this small but critical structure, we find two primary particles: protons and neutrons. Protons possess a positive charge, and the number of protons in the nucleus defines the atomic number, denoted as Z. Electrons, which carry a negative charge, orbit outside the nucleus and balance the positive charge of the protons. This arrangement ensures the atom remains electrically neutral. The total charge of the atomic electrons (-Ze) precisely balances the charge of the nucleus (+Ze). Additionally, the number of neutrons in the nucleus, represented as N, when combined with the number of protons, gives us the mass number, denoted as A. Hence, A = Z + N. This number also signifies the total count of nucleons, a term encompassing both protons and neutrons, within an atom.
The study of nuclei and their behavior has led to groundbreaking discoveries and profound insights into the nature of matter. Nuclear phenomena like radioactivity, fission, and fusion have far-reaching implications in fields ranging from energy production to medical applications. By understanding the intricate workings of nuclei, scientists continue to unlock the mysteries of the universe and harness the immense power contained within these microscopic powerhouses.

Mos speedrun cover art5
Tumblr media
This time Mos has learned some awesome new abilities: Swing on ropes, swim through jelly, push blocks, wall jump, and fight through spider webs to reach the end of a level. Wall-jump to victory through 30 mysterious, action packed levels! If you’ve found yourself enjoying the many other platforming games in the App Store, and you’re intrigued by the speed run aspect and the retro style of this title, then don’t hesitate to give Mos Speedrun a try.Mos is back, in her biggest and most exciting adventure ever! Plus, despite not having a huge number of levels, the ones that are there will put up a good fight and are a joy to play through. The levels are interesting, the controls are spot on, and the game uses adorable pixel art graphics and an awesome chiptune soundtrack. Mos Speedrun is definitely another solid entry in the iOS platforming genre. Some players in our forums really seem to enjoy the ghost aspect though, so your mileage may vary with this particular feature. They can be turned off, but I’d like to see options for seeing just the ghost for your current best run or maybe even a single previous attempt rather than all of them at once. There’s also the ability to unlock special levels by visiting certain links through the Safari browser on your device, but I haven’t had a chance to try out this feature yet.Īnother point about Mos Speedrun is that while the ghost aspect is a neat idea, I didn’t really feel like it added anything to the game and in fact found them to be distracting most of the time. Still, I can’t help but wish for more levels, and the developer has confirmed that more are on the way in future updates. The second half of the game ramps up quite a bit in difficulty though, and while you’ll likely be able to at least complete each level doing so within the required time limit will be a real challenge. The first half of the game won’t take long to breeze through, including earning every goal for each level. The only other negative I can think of for Mos Speedrun is that there just isn’t enough of it. My one small criticism is that I feel the area around the jump button could be enlarged, as I occasionally will fat-thumb it and miss the button altogether, but it’s not really a huge issue. This scheme works great, and approaches the tightness and responsiveness of the current King of platformer virtual controls League of Evil. My much preferred control scheme is a simple virtual button setup, with left and right arrows for movement and a single button for jumping. Personally, though, I just could not wrap my head around it. I can see the value of this particular control scheme, as with some practice it would likely offer you quicker reaction times than standard virtual controls. The default scheme is a quirky setup where you touch anywhere on the left side of the screen to move left, anywhere on the right side of the screen to move right, and touch them both together to jump. Thankfully, the controls in Mos Speedrun are great. It’s actually nice to have such an uncomplicated take on platforming, but it wouldn’t mean anything if the controls didn’t work. There’s even extensive underwater portions, which harken back to classic Sonic the Hedgehog levels where you must keep an eye on your oxygen meter and search out bubble areas to breathe from. There’s only movement and jumping to worry about, and in this way Mos Speedrun is platforming distilled to its purest form. You can’t kill enemies, and a single touch to an enemy or hazard will kill your little guy and end your current run. There’s environmental hazards like laval pits and spikes as well as various enemy types which must be avoided. The levels in Mos Speedrun are well designed, with all the usual trappings of a typical platform game. Once you have a good feel for a level, you can easily go back on a different try and attempt the speed run with a better idea of what to expect. You can leisurely explore a level collecting coins and looking for the hidden skull, but this also gives you a chance to familiarize yourself with its layout. The different goals are a great design decision, and give reason to play each level multiple times. There’s simply completing the level, completing the level within the specified time goal, collecting every coin in the level, and searching out and collecting a hidden skull. Mos Speedrun contains 20 levels, each with 4 distinct goals to attain. Today Mos Speedrun is finally available, and it’s every bit as much fun as we’d hoped it would be. Mos Speedrun looked unique with its emphasis on completing levels as quickly as possible, and for its use of the ghosts from previous failed attempts running along with you in the background. Last month we checked out the video for Mos Speedrun, a new platformer from developer Physmos.

Game review: Stray redefines the adventure genre with a cat’s-eye view [Updated]
Enlarge / The unnamed star of Stray poses in its strange, new world of mysteries and puzzles. Annapurna Interactive / BlueTwelve Studio The indie gaming genre of “silly animal exploration” has produced a bunch of fun and unique experiences. We’ve loved pantomiming as the following: hellraising goats, car-driving bears, and (if you’ll allow it into the genre) bendy, walking slices of bread. But…
