One Dress a Day Challenge

April: Yellow Redux

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (s4e3, "Everything Is Bellmore") / Rachel Brosnahan as Miriam "Midge" Maisel

In honor of the final season starting tonight, here's Midge in a very cool and summery-looking outfit from season 4, which is set in 1960.

I'm not quite sure whether this is a dress with a tiny peplum or a two-piece top-and-skirt combination. It looks more like a dress, but the lack of a zipper in the back may suggest that it is in two pieces. The A-line skirt is decorated with orange bows down one side.

Her cute straw hat that looks rather like a meringue. She also has two-tone shoes in yellow and blue, probably to match the pale blue short-sleeved coat that she wears over the dress later. From the bottom photo, it looks like she also has yellow gloves that match the dress, as well as a white wicker handbag.

a lenny detail for the fic writers out there: though in his vanguard bit he talks about an ad for camels, the brand he actually smokes is salem*, noted for their filtered menthol cigarettes

*ref: because you left (when he offers midge a cigarette at the vanguard, you can see the logo and distinctive stripes), everything is bellmore (the carton he throws at her and she throws back has the same teal stripes)

and for what it's worth, a quick text search of the real lenny's biography also includes a bit he performed about a producer monetizing a mining tragedy to sell salems: "listen, you men!—here’s a chance to make a few bucks. when you get the cue, i want you to say, 'though we’re trapped, salem is trapping our tars!'" so, do with that what you will

FRANK. AND. THE. GREMLINS. of course fe

so, frank actually works as a part-time firefighter in Bellmoral. a few days a week he's at the fire station ready and waiting for an emergency.

but all the other days he's at the Seresin family cabin helping Ronnie with all those kids while Jake is at work

neither Ronnie nor Jake even asked him to do it. he just started showing up. but I would say he didn't start coming consistently until after Rhodes was born and Ronnie needed more help. just there to distract baby Noah so she could focus on the newborn.

but then their family just keeps growing and growing (cause they can't keep their hands off each other)

and Frank basically becomes a nanny lol really, he's just at their house during the day, watching the kids, so Ronnie can take care of other stuff or the babies that need more of her attention (or just relax for a few minutes)

he is the secretly extremely soft, sweet, hard-on-the-outside uncle who is wrapped around their fingers but takes no shit. he doesn't do diapers but he'll do everything else

"no pooping till your momma comes home"

Jake and Ronnie try to give him things as thank yous for all his help but he's refused every single one. Jake is his Alpha. Ronnie is his Luna. Those kids are the future of Red Sky. He has a responsibility and he just genuinely loves those kids.

but Frank's first and last name is Frank Moral. He IS Jeremiah Bellmoral's cousin. and Frank is the last of his name. In fact, he's happy for the entire Bellmoral/Moral line to die out. He doesn't have a mate and he doesn't have his own kids.

But Jake and Ronnie don't see it that way. Frank is a good man and a good wolf. and they are forever grateful for everything that he does.

so they name their last child Delaney Moral Seresin so that his legacy can be carried on through her.

I think most people struggle with it. I guess the key is not to hold onto it, and try to let it pass in the moment. It might come back, but you don't have to entertain those thoughts.

You can just think about something else.

You: "Man, isn't Midge so cute when she's looking at Lenny in that scene in Everything is Bellmore. She loves listening to him but she also wishes he would just shut the fuck up."

One MidgeLenny x TSwift Fic Per Day

31. evermore

What would Lenny do?

It’s a question she’s always subconsciously asked herself, but that was the first time she’d ever done it consciously.

Standing on the tarmac, watching Shy’s plane fly away, it felt like everything she’d worked for had vanished into thin air. She had to tell her parents. Her friends. Moishe.

God, what will Lenny say when he finds out?

Turns out, nothing. No jokes about getting the boot. No condolences. Just I knew the Shy Baldwin thing was tough, an anecdote from his days at Bellmore, and random objects thrown at her from the audience.

After she’s done, she finds him waiting for her by the stage door. “Let’s take a walk,” he says.

She nods and falls into step with him, sharing a cigarette. “So,” she says after a while, “did you know I was working at the Wolford or was that just a happy accident?”

He shrugs as he takes the cigarette back. “Heard a rumor there was a new lady comic. Figured I’d check her out.” She raises a brow at him, and he laughs that ridiculous laugh of his and shakes his head. “Not what I meant, but, uh...” He gestures to her, a little up and down motion of his hand.

She laughs quietly, feels herself blushing a little. “You didn’t know it was me?”

“I hoped. Heard you were back in New York and figured I’d run into you someday.”

Her blush intensifies at his choice of words, and by the way he’s watching her, she knows he chose that word intentionally. “It’s good to see you,” she says after a moment. “Finally had enough of Florida?”

“Too fucking hot down there, and there was no one remaining to join me for human sacrifice night,” Lenny reasons before taking a drag from his cigarette. “And I, uh, heard a friend might be in need of some moral support.”

Midge sighs and takes the cigarette when he offers it. “I said some things on stage that...hit a little too close to home,” she explains. “Things about Shy.”

“Ah,” he says.

“I can’t go into detail.”

“I would never ask you to,” he immediately replies, and she knows he’s telling the truth. There are a lot of people in her life who would pry, but she knows he won’t. “I just hope you’re not hiding out at a strip club because you’re too scared to try again.”

“I’m not,” she replies. “I’m just...I want to work where I can say what I want to say. I can do that at the Wolf.”

“There are a lot of places you can say what you want without the risk of a police raid,” he points out.

She arches a brow again. “Lenny, I’ve been arrested before - ”

“I’m aware. I bailed you out.”

“Hell, I was just arrested last week. That’s how I found the Wolford.”

“Just - ” He stops in his tracks, and she turns to him. “You’re looking for other opportunities, right?”

“Of course I am,” she replies, a little insulted.

“Because you know you have to work your way up in this business, right? Pay your dues, all that shit?”

“No, I was just planning on spending the rest of my life slinging dick jokes at a strip club,” she drawls. “Thought it would be a great example for my daughter.”

“Okay,” he concedes, raising his hands in surrender. “I just...as your husband or possibly your brother, I gotta check in on you once in a while.”

She laughs softly. “I appreciate it,” she says honestly. “Really, Lenny. You have no idea how much your friendship means to me.”

He smiles, a little something she can’t identify behind it. “Me too,” he agrees.

And then there’s silence, just that same heated gaze from Miami, and her breath catches as his fingers find hers. He’s going to kiss her, isn’t he? He’s going to finally -

His hand pulls back, and she realizes he was just taking the cigarette from between her fingers. He lifts it to his lips, taking the last puff before tossing it aside. “Take care of yourself, okay?” He says.

She nods slowly. “I will,” she promises.

He disappears around the corner, and as she releases a breath she didn’t know she was holding, she realizes this is the first time since she watched that plane fly away that she’s felt there’s a way forward. She finally feels like maybe the pain and embarrassment will subside.

Someday.
