#ethnocide
Tumblr media
Okay, @sihatn wishes to be so hung up on the particular war crime the Israeli government is using to excessively slaughter innocent Palestinian civilians, so let’s explain the difference between Genocide, Ethnocide, and Ethnic Cleansing:
Genocide: the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group
Examples: The Armenian Genocide (where the term actually originates), the Shoah/Holocaust, Taíno Genocide, and Rwandan Genocide to name a few.
I have seen some Zionists on this platform and on Instagram argue that Israel cannot be committing Genocide because it is a “very specific instance in history that only includes the Holocaust”. That fact is ardently incorrect. For one, the first event to be called a Genocide and where the term was coined was the Armenian Genocide and countless events have been labeled a Genocide since 1943/1944 when the term was initially coined (including events coined after the fact that had already happened like the aforementioned Taíno Genocide).
Ethnocide: the deliberate and systematic destruction of the culture of an ethnic group or nation without deliberately killing large numbers of people within that ethnic group or nation
Think “kill the Indian, save the man”, the American and Canadian policy against American Indian tribes and First Nations that sought to forcibly assimilate them into W.A.S.P. culture. A similar policy occurred in Hawaii during the “Republic of Hawaii” and “Territory of Hawaii” days, and even the destruction of Yiddish Culture by Zionists in Israel who feared it for being “too Middle Eastern”. Most Re-Education camps fall in this category too.
Ethic Cleansing: the mass expulsion or killing of members of an unwanted ethnic or religious group in a society
This term is relatively new and was coined in the aftermath of the collapse of Yugoslavia and Serbia’s treatment of Croats, Bosnians, and other ethnic minorities, as well as the Stalinist movement of ethnic minorities to different SSRs.
Mass Homicide: the deliberate killing of a large number of people
The only distinction here is the people are not being killed because of their ethnicity or nation, but for ✨ other reasons ✨
Now here’s the kicker, most Zionists would say they are committing Ethnic Cleansing. They might not say it out right, because the term has a nasty connotation, but they will say they’re doing the definition of ethnic cleansing.
Some propaganda reblogging Zionists might claim that they’re just committing Mass Homicide but here’s the thing, almost every example of mass homicide being committed by one nation to another nation has been an example of one of the first three categories. The only real examples of Mass Homicide actually being Mass Homicide occur within a state (see Mao famines, Pol Pot’s mass killings, or the countless purging of communists or anti communists during the Cold War).
Some (wrong) historians may claim the Bengal Famine and Irish Potato Famine were examples of mass Homicide but here’s the thing, in both cases aid from other nations and governments were barred from entering the effected places because the UK forbid it. Food exports were forced to continue to come from Ireland and Bengal because the UK forced it. The reasons these famines were so severe was because the UK had a eugenics inspired belief that the Irish and Bengalis were “sub human animals” and “less deserving of food than the Brits”.
The Irish Potato Famine and Bengali Famine were Genocides, with famine being the preferred method of killing.
Was it intentional at first? Maybe not. Did it become intentional after the fact? Yes.
But this takes us to the most important point. The difference between Genocide, Ethnocide, and Ethnic Cleansing AND Mass Homicide is the intent.
But the intent isn’t truly known until after the fact, when internal government documents are released and the facts of the situation are holistically known.
The Jews/Poles/Romani/etc knew they were going through a Genocide (or well, they didn’t know the word, but they knew what was happening) but most of the outside world didn’t because the N@zis were secretive about it. Yes some activists and Jewish/Polish/Romani/etc diaspora groups warned other governments, but these other governments (US, UK, USSR, China, France, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, Italy even) were skeptical.
We don’t full know intent now, but given Herzl and Jabotinsky’s rhetoric which essentially established modern day Zionism and the Israeli state, and the establishment of Area C for Israeli settlement after conflict in the West Bank, the fact that Israel has threatened a Second Nakba, an event internationally acknowledged as ethnic cleansing, the fact that there are oil reserves underneath Gaza and the forcing of 2 million people into an airport sized camp would allow Israel to open up drilling where the ruins of Gaza city lay, or the fact that Israel is an Ethnonationalist country that relies on the superiority of Israelis over Palestinians and other neighbouring countries in order to exist makes the intent known to those of us familiar with the history of this conflict.
Ok ok ok ok ok here’s where I M. Night Shyamalan this whole thing: Genocide, Ethnocide, and Ethnic Cleansing are all the same crime according to multinational organizations like the United Nations. They are all Genocide.
All Ethnocides are Genocides, but not all Genocides are Ethnocides.
All Ethnic Cleansings are Genocides, but not all Genocides are Ethnic Cleansings.
The Nakba was an Ethnic Cleansing, therefore the Nakba was a Genocide.
The Netanyahu administration claims that their on going attack on Gaza is a “new Nakba”.
Nakba = Ethnic Cleansing = Genocide
The Netanyahu administration claims that their on going attack on Gaza is a “new Genocide”.
Genocide carries with it negative connotations. If the term was as widely used in 1944 as it is today, Hitler would deny genocide allegations, just as the Turkish continue to deny genocide allegations from the Armenian Genocide, why the Japanese continue to deny Genocide Allegations during their rule of Korea, Taiwan, parts of Micronesia, Manchuria, and Nanjing. Why the British refuse to acknowledge the Irish Potato Famine or Bengal Famine as Genocides. Why the conservative right want to ban the teaching of American genocides against countless groups (namely Native Americans, African Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Chicanos). And why Zionists get so offended when you refer to the actions of Israel as a Genocide.
Those who commit Genocide will never acknowledge that they are committing genocide. The fact that the current mainstream Zionist reaction, like @sihatn, is to deny that the ongoing genocide exists just proves that one is happening… if the horrific videos didn’t prove it enough (this one is from an American pro Israel source, but it doesn’t not take long to find ones from individuals in Gaza)
In conclusion, Israel is committing a genocide, and if you say otherwise, you are blinded by Ethnonationalism just like the Germans were in the 30s/40s, the Turks were during the 10s/20s and onward, the Brits were for (well forever), and the American right wing is.
If you don’t acknowledge the fact that Israel is committing a Genocide you are part of the problem shawty, and it’s not a good look 😬

On This Day In History
August 3rd, 2014: ISIL (also known as ISIS, Da'esh, or the Islamic State) begins a genocide of the Yazidi people in Iraq.
The Yazidi people are ethnic Kurds, from Kurdistan, who also follow the Yazidi religion. Yazidism is a monotheistic, non-Abrahamic religion.

As russian troops withdraw, the brutality of their occupation in Ukraine is revealed. Liberated areas become crime scenes and suspicion of war crimes starts to emerge. Under the laws of war, civilians should have been protected, but instead it looks like they were targeted. Some were held captive, others were killed or left for dead.

“Prison of the Nations”: How Russia is Using Indigenous Peoples in the War Against Ukraine
05.10.2022Police detain protesters against mobilization in Dagestan. Photo: REUTERS
Tumblr media
For centuries, the Kremlin’s politics focused on the Russification of all the nations living on Russia’s territories, quenching national self-awareness, and pushing forth the “Russian world” ideology. This is the politics one would call imperialism.
And now, after it started the full-scale war against Ukraine, Russia is mobilizing the indigenous population first. It uses them as cannon fodder, destroying these ethnicities to fulfill its rapacious goals.
In this article, we’re going to discuss Russia’s politics of ethnocide. We’ll see how Russia is destroying entire ethnicities in the war, killing Ukrainians at their expense, all the while trying to save the “titular nation” of the empire — that is, ethnic Russians.
How Russia’s politics of ethnocide works
The total number of nations living on Russia’s territory approaches 200, including ethnic communities and indigenous peoples. Reaching 80%, Russia’s largest ethnic group is Russians. They are followed by Tatars (around 4%), Ukrainians (around 1–2%), Bashkirs, Chuvash people, and Chechens (each group constituting around 1%). The rest are even smaller ethnic groups.
The Volga region (the republics of Mordovia, Chuvashia, Mari-El, Tatarstan, Udmurtia, and Bashkortostan) and Karelia, the Caucasus, and the Urals are Russian territories inhabited by indigenous peoples for ages. But these peoples have limited political rights and no opportunity to develop their own cultures and languages.
Indigenous peoples in Russia are considered “non-titular” ethnic groups and are therefore viewed as second-rate and unimportant.
Currently, as many as nine indigenous peoples are already on the verge of extinction: they have no more than a thousand people left. This includes Keriks, Enets, Oroks, Negidals, and Chelkans.
At the same time, the historical territory of small indigenous peoples constitutes approximately three-quarters of Russia’s entire territory. These lands are also where many of Russia’s economy-defining resources come from. Despite that, the Kremlin despises the histories and cultures of the peoples living there.
The so-called politics of ethnocide, that is, the politics aimed at the extermination of identities and cultures of specific nations and ethnic groups, has always been an essential part of Moscow’s strategy.
In fact, “ethnocide” is the basis that allows the “Russian world” to “grow.” Moscow is the “imperial center” destroying the languages, cultures, and histories of the indigenous peoples, taking away their riches, and using the money made on them to spread the “Russian world” further to new territories.
How the Kremlin is set on destroying indigenous peoples in the war against Ukraine
Since the beginning of the full-scale war against Ukraine, Russia’s discriminatory approach has manifested itself in yet another dimension: it is mostly indigenous people that are sent to Ukraine to die. It is the Buryats, Dagestanis, Tuvans, Kalmyks, and Yakuts who become the “cannon fodder” of the Russian army in Ukraine — not ethnic Russians. And it is among these “non-titular” ethnic groups that a disproportionately high death rate is observed.
The thing is, Russia’s regions that are home to indigenous peoples (used as consumables in Moscow’s war to get Ukraine) are in large part depressed and economically underdeveloped. They have high unemployment rates (15 to 30%, give or take) and some of the lowest salaries in Russia.
Seeking to escape poverty, residents of those regions, particularly young people, have no other choice but to go to war either under contract or as volunteers. And Russian propaganda is only adding fuel to the fire, saying that fighting against Ukraine brings not only good money but plenty of loot too.
That said, indigenous people often belong to the least privileged caste of soldiers in the Russian army(as it happens, along with Ukrainians mobilized in temporarily occupied territories). They have practically no rights, no training, no proper supplies, food, weapons, or equipment. After all, their main task is to be a makeshift “plug” for the hole at the front. In fact, it’s themselves that are this plug. They are not supposed to “close” it using their military skills.
So we see that the Kremlin’s plan for the conquered indigenous peoples is the destruction of their cultures and languages, assimilation of the peoples themselves, and their depopulation and extinction. This is a forced policy whose goal is to plunder natural resources and establish the “Russian world” at the cost of the indigenous peoples’ lives.
That is why the Russian authorities are purposefully mobilizing these ethnic groups for the war against Ukraine. Their goal is to reduce their numbers while avoiding dissatisfaction with mass calls for death among ethnic Russians. Instead, the war against Ukraine and the discontent caused by it may give these peoples a chance for freedom. After all, the destruction of the Russian Empire will also destroy the “prison” of these nations.
And the world is already witnessing the first events that can trigger an avalanche. The announcement of the so-called partial mobilization in Russia was followed by increased internal tensions: for example, people went out to protest in Dagestan. This means that despite the seven months of blindness, the people in Russia have finally seen the true nature of Moscow’s politics. It is not just an invasion of Ukraine — it’s also discriminatory against certain ethnicities among the population of Russia itself.

So I bought a 7 Sorrows Chaplet. I was extremely hesitant to buy the one I wanted due to this:
Tumblr media
I abhor missionary work. Like genuinely loath it. I actively avoided using ethnologue as a source because of how much I hate it. Nor would I ever donate to Samaritan's Purse or Salvation Army. But I was pleasantly surprised to find this:
Tumblr media
"nor use aid to induce a person to change religion" thats what I needed to hear, in order to feel comfortable buying the chaplet. Hopefully they are true to their word— I would hope Christians would be.
"seek for our work to be our testimony" <- thats the proper way to 'evangelize' in my opinion. Show the love of Jesus Christ, let people see that you are doing amazing work because of him, and if they want to ask you about it then you can say "I do this because my Christian values teach me so." If the person wants to know more so be it, if they don't want to know more respect it. This is how I wanted to evangelize when I was a Christian but my church shamed me for it not being rigorous enough, I wasn't actively spreading the Good News, I wasn't fulfilling The Great Commission. Ugh.
Anyways, its nice to know part of my purchase went to an aid program that I hope is honest and helpful.
I basically just held my breath and jumped in the deep end of the pool with Our Lady of Sorrows veneration by this purchase .... without any idea how to swim. I'm hoping the chaplet will be a physical reminder and give me a reason to actually start instead of just thinking about it.

Israel straight up committing war crimes and the U.S. government still supporting them is frankly disgusting, but of course the US is supporting yet another government committing war crimes against an ethnic minority/indigenous community. After all, they did it to their own indigenous populations, didn’t they? It makes me sick that people are so pro-Israel they’ll excuse outright genocide, ethnocide, infanticide, femicide, Islamophobia and in a strange backwards ass twist, anti-Semitism itself so long as it’s directed at non-Jewish and non-Israeli semitic populations. Israel’s government is beyond unethical or even simply immoral, but has gotten so vile that it’s now morally bankrupt and committing crimes against humanity. And the US government has its own shady ass past, sure, and its own current issues, of course, but my own country’s government being corrupt doesn’t mean anyone else’s government is suddenly beyond reproach. In a just world, Israel would face sanctions, fines, and other penalties for slaughtering innocent civilians. But people are so afraid of being accused of being anti-Semitic that no one will tell them they’re being fucking evil toward an ethnic minority by committing multiple acts of state-sanctioned violence that can’t be defended or described as anything other than war crimes, crimes against humanity, humanitarian violations, genocide and ethnocide. It’s just. So exhausting to hear this narrative everywhere. Fuck the Israeli government and any and every supporter they have.

For those that may need to hear it again:
👏BEING👏FROM👏AN👏IMPERFECT👏NATION👏DOES👏NOT👏MEAN👏CRITICISMS👏ARE👏INVALID👏
The number of times I've seen "oh the X has room to talk, not like they have done (bad thing)" sarcastically is upsetting
I can rail against the Chinese genocide against the Uyghurs, and I expect you to rail against my countries disgusting (some would say genocidal) treatment of migrants, as you should because it's disgusting that it occurs, but it doesn't mean that as an American or Chinese (in this example) doesn't have legitimate critiques.
Anytime I hear "Oh X can't talk, they do XYZ" 1 - Ignores that just because a country does something doesn't mean that the people in it all support it an 2 - equates atrocities as if they balance each other out or justify one another instead of them both being horrible

Posted @withregram • @a15actions This morning at 8am, over a dozen Palestinians, Jews and allies blockaded the westbound Hamilton Fish Newburgh-Beacon bridge for over an hour, stopping traffic on I-84 for miles at the peak of rush hour. The action, part of the April 15 Economic Blockade for Palestine taking place in 65 cities across the globe, ended at 9am with fifteen arrests.
Organizer Abdallah Qotate states: “As a Palestinian, I wake up everyday worrying whether my best friend in Gaza will live to see another day. I’m forced to be in the street because our elected government refuses to listen to us. How many Palestinians have to die before our government will stop sending our tax dollars to Israel to fund this genocide?”
In a non-violent act of civil disobedience, protestors highlighted the federal government and US economy’s role in Israel’s genocidal siege against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Activists blocked all westbound lanes of traffic on the bridge for nearly one hour, amidst the busiest time on the bridge, over which 65000 commuters and 6012 transport trucks travel daily.
During the protest, New York State Police assaulted, pushed and threatened peaceful demonstrators with a baton. In a tweet removed later, the New York Department of Transport for the Hudson Valley reported that as of 8:44am, one lane remained closed during police intervention.
Shutting down a key artery of commerce and commuter transport during one of the busiest hours of morning traffic, demonstrators were part of a global movement shutting down commerce to end the genocide.
Grace Collins, one of the participants, concludes “Months of pleading to my representatives has not slowed the genocide in Palestine. Disrupting traffic to get our message across is a natural next step. If the constituents wont be heard through government channels then we will get our message across in nonviolent ways however we can.”

Doesn't eating meat contribute to habitat loss in South American and causes deforestation? I read deforestation happens there due to beef demand.
if you live in North America most of your beef is coming from North America. If you live in Eurasia most of your beef comes from Eurasia. If you’re in Africa most of your beef comes from Africa.
If you’re South American and want to boycott beef specifically, that’s fine, but an American eating steak and burgers isn’t impacting the rainforest.
It’s also bold to assume it’s being destroyed simply because people like beef and not as a direct attack on those indigenous to the Amazon. Even if everyone in South America stopped eating beef in protest, I’m pretty sure the deforestation would continue with some new excuse as to what the land could be used for.

okay this isn’t leverage so keep scrolling if you don’t want my therapist/social work drama
YALL ISTG IM READY TO JUMP OFF A BRIDGE
I have a coworker in her 60s, I love her, she’s great but dear GOD she’s getting on my LAST nerve???
so in group we sometimes do affirmation cards or activity cards to end the session and she has these ‘native spirit’ cards that she uses and we currently have a native person in group and I KNEW something would happen and it did last week
the person was not happy with her using them and said that it was a closed practice and my coworker basically double downed and bent around it (I grew up in the 60s and 70s when everyone shared everything and all walks of life were shared etc)
and it got to a bit of a neutral standoff at the end before we moved on and in debrief after group I really tried to explain to her that what she is using is cultural appropriation and it’s a closed practice and you ESPECIALLY shouldn’t use it if a native person says they don’t want you to and she basically blew me off???
AND SHE USED THEM AGAIN TODAY and it was the white buffalo card and it was about whatever spiritual theme I didn’t even pay attention thank god the client who is native had their screen off and I think they might have been asleep because I know for a FACT it would have become A Thing again
I brought it up in debrief and I was like [name], I don’t mean to be rude and this is coming from the bottom of my heart but please you need to stop using these cards. AND THEN WE STARTED GOING BACK AND FORTH ABOUT IT and she was shutting down everything I said
me: they have a right to say they don’t want us to use their stuff we put them through genocide and ethnocide if they say we don’t have a right then we don’t
her: but we do though. these cards aren’t from any one practice…..(more talking)
me, to myself, fuming but letting her finish her point to be respectful: THATS A FUCKING PROBLEM ??? THATS CULTURALLY APPROPRIATING A DIVERSE CULTURE INTO A SET OF AFFIRMATION CARDS !!!!!
