I love how Kent Parson's color-changing eyes say so much about his character. He's a chameleon who can shift his personality to fit in with whatever group he's in at the moment. His mood is fickle and can turn sour quickly (like when he suddenly switches from miserable to furious with Jack at Epikegster). He has secrets that few know about, and one of them is his true eye color. It's such a fitting little detail just for those paying attention.

Tell me more about teenage Bitty's hopeless big-time crush. He could just be talking about a generally good policy not derived from any particular past first hand experience, or only minor mostly physical crushes that don't have anywhere near the emotional depth of what he's feeling even at this stage... but where's the fun in that?

(It doesn't come up in their discussion we see of their respective histories, but Bitty doesn't think of the dates he was on since coming to Samwell as worth mentioning - so any regrettable teenage crushes that didn't go anywhere almost certainly aren't being mentioned should they exist.)

It would be kind of delicious if it was with a hockey teammate so there's symmetry with both Bitty+Jack and Jack+Parse. It might honestly be a little too on the nose, and there are a lot of other interesting possibilities.

Also I want to shout out Ngozi for putting this right before shit really hits the fan at Epikegster. Flawless, no notes.

epikegster au where bitty walks in on jack and kent making out, which leads to bitty being invited in jack’s room to watch but eventually the three of them hook up. the morning after, bitty is making breakfast when kent enters the kitchen fully dressed and half-asleep, but his smile is warm when they make eye contact and it makes bitty want to melt. they talk a little bit and kent is like “I’d like to see you and zimms again sometime. like going out on dates and stuff.” in which bitty asks if last night was just a one time thing until kent tells him that it’s not and that he genuinely likes him and jack. before heading back to the hotel in boston, kent and bitty exchange numbers and kent places his hat on bitty’s head before saying “looks better on you anyway. I’ll text you, ok?” and kisses him on the cheek. later bitty and jack go to annie’s and they both confess their feelings for each other while also admitting their feelings for kent and wanting him to be a part of their relationship.

Hello, I just finished the Hat Trick Hearts series by SomewheresSword and ohhhhh my god, it was SO GOOD.

If you like PBJ and you like seeing these boys happy, I highly recommend this series. It's 463,312 words of them being in love and figuring out how that relationship works, both in private and in this heteronormative and monogamy focussed world, and it's very low on angst. It's not pure fluff, there's anxiety and homophobia and dealing with past hurt, but there's no manufactured angst in the relationship, just lots of love and comfort and actual communication! Especially once they get together, which I promise doesn't take too long.

The series is canon divergent from Epikegster, based on the premise that Bitty went to the 2010 Olympics as a figure skater and met (a very sad) Kent there. They became close friends, but only through phonecalls/skype/texting and somehow neither realised that Bitty's captain who he was crushing on was the same guy that Kent had been heartbroken about all these years. So when Kent shows up and sees them taking selfies together, the night goes very differently. Despite this divergence, the series still includes a lot of canon moments, before eventually moving past where the comic ends and folowing these boys for many more years.

I'll link to the fist fic, if the idea of commiting to the whole series is too daunting, you could technically just read this and have a satisfying (and happy) ending in about 90k words. Or just start here and enjoy the journey!

So what if Jack and Parse coordinated halloween costumes in 2014?

Ok, hear me out, I've been following the comic on/off since year one and recently finally finished year four and then bought like all the huddles/chirp book etc, so apologies if this has already been discussed but its been killing me all day so i had to. Some conspiracy levels of analysis under cut :P

In the official canon comic timeline we never actually see halloween 2014, correct? We just get bitty's tweets about it and the absolutely ADORABLE picture of him in his sweeney todd costume and jack in his Cat(!!!!) costume. And like, bitty's tweets suggest that everyone is super confused that jack showed up in costume for once and nobody knows where he got the idea or the cat ears. MEANWHILE in the huddle (which ive chopped into pieces and made a low res version bc please support artists and go buy the actual pdf!!) we see kent in tacky mouse ears, and very familiar whiskers/nose facepaint. Kent's saying ‘its a group costume’ to someone. When I first downloaded the huddle months ago this utterly baffled me like...what ‘group costume’ would involve a mouse?

Anyway then the tragic epikegster happened and we all know who showed up but we don't know why kent picked then of all times.

This next part is all conjecture cause of course i have ideas \o/ because what better ‘group costume’ than ‘cat’ and ‘mouse’ am i right???

1) the slightly weirder but fits with canon theory is that jack came up with the cat costume on his own and kent being his creepily obsessed self saw the photo on twitter, and since east coast is in a later time zone than vegas that would give kent time to throw together a shitty mouse costume as his own kinda sick joke. This is the kent ‘failing at life spectacularly’ parson theory.

2) assuming that kent and jack exaggerated slightly on the ‘jack cut off all contact after the draft’ story, it would make sense that kent was trying to call jack about joining the vegas Aces even before kent showed up at the haus. So say kent's trying to sweet talk him into it and being conversational and all and casually asks about jack's halloween plans and finds out that jack's bought some dumb cat ears bc he's a cheap boring dude who clearly hates halloween (why are bittle and kent obsessed with this guy again?). And kent jokingly is like ‘going as a cat, are you? well then i'll be the mouse’ with his trademark smirk. Which is a fun role reversal with the whole kent trying to lure jack into his professional hockey team and all. And also we totally know kent wants to be caught by jack haha ;_; why. And these two are so dysfunctional its so great. I also love the idea of two old friends still having that kind of ‘you have to be us to get it’ connection and inside jokes. Cause parse is obviously at a party where everyone around him doesn't understand why the heck he's dressed as a mouse (i imagine its not a typical hockey player halloween costume), which implies that the person he's doing a ‘group costume’ with is not at the party...probably because he's at samwell...making shitty's day/year/life and flirting with a homicidally in love baker.

ANYWAY im so sorry for all this nonsense, please don't take any of it too seriously. I'm just having too much fun thinking of old estranged friends who are supposed to be rivals and fighting, secretly reconnecting and spontaneously thinking up cat and mouse ‘group costumes’ so they can be together but not really together right under everyones nose. ;_; (also if my second theory is something like what happened...jack...that means parse embarassed himself and went as a mouse to a party alone just to tease you with it...that boy is DEFINITELY NOT OVER YOU)

oh my god so. okay. the tag "im tired of cis bullshit" on this work is so funny. 1) the "cis bullshit" in question was genderbends which is the most 2017 discourse imaginable. 2) when i wrote that tag I identified as cis. LMAOOOOO. i thought i was being such a good ally writing this fic. and then somewhere along the way i was like "goddamm why do i relate so much to Amy's choosing to ruthlessly be herself and why am i jealous of it." and here we are. so this work holds a special place in my heart and i will finish it if it kills me and also probably rewrite the early chapters because they are SIX YEARS OLD oh my god i was FIFTEEN. they could be better, and they will be.

Nursey rolls over in bed the morning after Epikegster, and finds himself face to face with Kent Parson. Kent is drooling, and still asleep, so Nursery takes a moment to assess the situation. Kent has all the covers and is kind of hogging whatever bed they’re in, which appears to be in a hotel room. Nursey is naked, and a quick inventory of the floor leads him to believe that most if not all of his clothing is there. He glances down at himself, and notices a not insignificant number of mouth sized bruises littering his torso. His therapist has been teaching him about not jumping to conclusions, but he’s starting to think he hooked up with Kent Parson.

you won't get it unless you Get It but this is the funniest possible rairpair. i'd love to finish this someday and fix the haphazard characterization. the plot was good as shit i just have to hope i get inspiration back after *checks notes* five years! we'll see!
