LEARNING WEEK (part 2)

As I mentioned in my previous post on Monday, this week was all about learning how the ligths work in the forest. Of course this is only a starting point and there is still much to learn!

For a reminder, this is the original piece from Emil Jakob Schindler, it's called Forest Lane near Schärfing. It is originally an oil painting but i didn't dwell yet on that medium, so I made my studies with acrylic.

First I painted a small A4 study about the whole picture. Trying to figure out the lights and which part fascinates me the most.

And then I spent more time also on an A4 on this detail:

Not perfect but that's why I am trying to learn.

LEARNING WEEK (part 1)

So I always like to watch during hikes how beautiful the way the light shines through the trees. Like you can see on Roman Königshofer photo above.

It's a pretty impossible task for little old me to be able to paint it but a couple of months back, we were in the Ludwig Museum in Wien / Vienna. And stumbled upon the following painting from Emil Jakob Schindler, it's called Forest Lane near Schärfing.

And I got this idea what would it be like copy the old masters and have a try to make studies about this particular artwork. only with acryl instead of oil like the original. So this is gonna be this week's project. The process will be shown on Thursday.
