Melodic Misconceptions 🎹

Track 07: NXDE

Synopsis: Victoria Shard was a former member of the popular idol group [ Poisoner ] from NRC corporations. After discourse with her group leader, Victoria decided it was best for her to leave and pursue her solo career in a record label run by her parents.

It had been half a year since her separation from her old group, and Victoria had never been more successful. But now she has a new problem. She must return to NRC corporations in order to mentor the seven idol groups.

Ellis Clawthorne is a member of [ (Co)-connect ] the most recent group under NRC'S belt. With no experience as an idol, Ellis must persevere in order to succeed and pursue her dreams.

Will both girls be able to adapt to their current situations?

Author's note: After struggling with the writing of this track it's done! I practically had 'Nxde' on loop while writing the whole time to keep me motivated XD

Writing the actual performance was definitely a challenge, and it may not reach everyone's expectations, but I hope you enjoy this track nonetheless!

After the discussion, exactly three weeks ago, the production for the song 'Nxde' was in motion.

Line distribution was based on what kind of specialty each girl had.

Carol and Chizuko chose not to participate in much of the singing and decided to participate via instrumentation.

The girls in charge of vocals were Freyah, Nyx, Victoria, Ellis, and Juvia. Juvia volunteered to have the least vocals so that Freyah could shine a little more.

"Eh? Are you sure?"

Juvia smiled sweetly at Freyah, placing her hand over hers."Positive. I noticed that you aren't as popular in your group due to being the youngest. And being the only girl," she continued.

"So I want you to shine the most in this song, Freyah. You deserve it for all your hard work in making this song." Juvia assured her, the tender smile feeling a little sweeter in Freyah's eyes.

A smile donned on Freyah's face, shining just as bright as Juvia's."Thank you!" The two of them giggled and continued talking.

Ellis sighed, feeling a little anxious."Is it really necessary for me to start the first verse of the song? I feel like I won't be able to pull it off…" she sent the girls an awkward smile.

Victoria gently patted her on the shoulder."I'm sure you'll be adequate for such a role." Hearing her words made Ellis blush a bit, smiling sheepishly.

"T-Thank you…" Victoria smiled back at her.

Zen yodeled, startling everyone in the room."Yo! Ready to start recording??" With a grin on his face, Zen pretended that the startled expression on everyone's faces was non-existent.

The girls laughed it off and walked into the studio's control room to record the studio recording of 'Nxde'.

Victoria was going to follow them until she felt Miren tap her on the shoulder. When she turned around, she noticed he looked a little awkward in her presence.

She hummed."Do you need something, Miren?" Miren's smile appeared forced, likely an attempt to hide any anxiety in his system.

"Uh… Well- Yuuta wants to talk to you for a bit." He pointed behind him and Yuuta waved at the two of them, a friendly smile donning his usually smug face.

That made Victoria feel a little skeptical. But considering that what Yuuta wished to discuss might be important, she huffed.

"Tell Zen to not start yet." She patted Miren's shoulder, walking past him and going towards Yuuta as he sat on the couch.

He whistled."Thanks for taking the time to speak with me~," he said, making Victoria don a stern expression.

"Yes. Now…" she folded her arms together, squinting her eyes at Yuuta, almost scowling.

The friendly smile faded, transitioning into a smirk. Now that felt more like Yuuta. And Victoria felt a little worried about what he wanted.

"May I use the dance studio?"

Her eyebrows raised. The question was so random and unexpected. It almost felt unusual.

"... Why?" Suspicion filled her voice, making him cackle.

"It's not for anything suspicious. I just want to rehearse for that little performance Miren and I will have…"

Remaining skeptical, Victoria's hum trailed off a bit."Alright… I'll see to it that you and Miren will be able to use the dance studio for your performance." She turned away, beginning to walk into the control room.

"I'll…. Be sure not to disappoint, Vic."

As days passed, it felt as though production for the music video had begun yesterday. At least for Ellis.

Perhaps it was simply her anxiety seeping out, but Victoria noticed that Ellis suddenly appeared pale. Which naturally filled her with deep concern.

"Are you alright?"

"H-Huh?? Um…. Y-Yes, I'm all good." Victoria frowned a bit, noticing that Ellis was still nervous around her. But it was different compared to Miren. Ellis…. Looked like she had her on some sort of pedestal.

She wanted to discuss that issue of hers but knew it wouldn't be the best time to talk about it at that moment. So she simply exhaled deeply and sent Ellis an encouraging smile.

"You'll do great, I'm sure of it." The simplicity of her words was obvious, but they held so much meaning for Ellis specifically.

Her grin returned, determination rising and drowning out any anxiety left."Alright! I'll do my best!" Ellis exclaimed. Victoria chuckled and she was about to continue the conversation with Ellis when Zen came in.

"Put the finishing touches on, it's almost time for the performance to start." Ellis gulped but sent Zen a determined grin and a thumbs up.

Victoria's expression softened more when she saw Zen, and Ellis couldn't help but chuckle beneath her steady breaths. They loved each other like siblings, and it felt like a breath of fresh air for Ellis.

When they came onto the stage, all eyes were fixated on the girls in their starting positions.

Freyah was the first to sing, but more in the sense that it was a teaser for the chorus.

Ellis entered, properly starting the song while wearing black and red. The crowd was awestruck at the fact that Ellis sounded so incredible.

Nyx cut her off, her deep voice startling the crowd a little, but leaving them equally as starstruck.

It didn't take long for the crowd to scream with unfathomable excitement when Freyah began rapping. Her voice was intense, yet seemingly so perfect for the song.

Juvia coming in with the smooth flow of her dancing alongside Nyx's deep voice for the pre-chorus only further increased the cheering.

But the moment Victoria came in to lead the first half of the chorus, the cheers were almost loud enough to drown out any of the sounds.

But that didn't matter.

Their dancing stood out and looked unique. And their outfits may have appeared unusual due to the 1920s aesthetic, but the bright reds complimented the blacks so well that they managed to make it look so good.

Freyah's verse in the second half of the song made Ace look like an amateur. The fans never thought of Freyah as a rapper, but seeing her like that now? Ace Trapolla was no more, I suppose.

As the song continued, the crowd cheering increased in sound. And all of Ellis's nervousness had disappeared by then.

Unbeknownst to her, Ellis sent Victoria a smile. As if to silently say 'thank you' while still on stage.

As the bridge of the song hit, everyone was anticipating how the rest of the song was going to sound after it.

But then Freyah said the line that led to the song's peak.

"Now I draw a luxury nude~..."

Those words sung so beautifully combined with the second long silence, made the final chorus hit much harder than it should have.

Juvia's smile was bright, happy that Freyah was finally getting the recognition she knew she deserved.

The fact that Victoria was smiling, bordering on grinning, made the final chorus all the more satisfying for people like Zen and Ellis.

When the song ended, the girls posed together, tired yet satisfied with the reactions the audience had.

Freyah gasped and dragged the girls off of the stage so Yuuta and Miren could perform.

What made it feel a little unusual… Was the fact that the instrumental of the start of the song felt… Familiar.

And Mayuu began to stare in horror at the realization of what they were gonna perform.
