Good evening pals it's time for more "things I like about the Ace Attorney Anime despite the budget being less than what I have in my piggy bank". Tonight is one of my favorite adaption decisions from "Farewell, My Turnabout" (obvious Spoilers for that case, you have been warned).
To start, the art in the anime is often pretty funky and off model, but I wanted to highlight this frame when Phoenix is talking to Matt Engarde in the detention center with his reflection in the shot. It is genuinely well drawn and downright horrifying. Actually, the whole episode has pretty good draftsmen working on the character animation, considering.
I could honestly leave it as is, but this next scene is what I want to talk about the most. (I have to leave some stuff out because of the 30 image limit--I took like 50 screencaps of this scene in total lol--so bare with me.) Phoenix steps out of the Detention center to see a certain prosecutor waiting for him.
The following conversation takes place in the Criminal Affairs Department in the game, but in the anime, it takes place in Edgeworth's office! (RIP Eddy's Bratworth outfit which is just a 2D image on that wall lmao--again, there are some well drawn stuff but this is just silly.) Another note: the text is from the sub with the localized English names, and it's a bit different from the dub.
This shot lingers for a bit, and you hear traffic outside before the following happens. The rest is under the cut.
Brilliant, incredible, amazing, showstopping, spectacular, never the same... you get the idea haha. I love it very much.
I get why they didn't do this, and I think it makes sense for her character, but I think it would have been so funny if Ema's idolisation of Edgeworth only lasted until he became her boss. I think we deserved a scene where she barges home/into the jail from work and says, "we should have let edgeworth take the fall for that fucking murder." to Lana and nothing else.
They truly got the aai trio dynamics down to a point
Edit: this post is months old but I can’t believe I forgot, here’s a direct link to the plays (with subtitles provided by Rayne :D, edgeworthlez, Grace rivalsforlife, and PinkPurpleBlus)
one thing i think is really funny is that. like. okay edgeworth chartered a jet and came flying over the instant he thought phoenix's life was in danger but if it hadn't been for larry calling him in a panic in the first place i sincerely doubt edgeworth would even have known about it at all because phoenix sure wasn't gonna call him about it. something even funnier is that at the beginning of the stolen turnabout when atmey makes the claim that even edgeworth thinks godot is a masterful prosecutor or whatever phoenix has no reaction whatsoever. he doesn't even care. it's MAYA who exclaims in disbelief and goes edgeworth?? no way??? etc etc. phoenix literally just stands there like he's made of cardboard until maya asks him if he's heard of godot before. doesn't even REACT to hearing edgeworth's name. at any given point in time in the trilogy + investigations there is this giant disconnect in how phoenix and edgeworth see each other and it's hilarious in an interesting way. by aa3 phoenix has already gone through the "savior complex" and "victim of my undying hatred" options and apparently that just left him like ??? uh yeah edgeworth's my. friend i guess. it's good to see him again. hey edgeworth i wasn't planning on calling you about my condition or the situation at ALL but now that you're here would you mind taking care of this girl for me and finding maya and acting as a defense attorney in my place because i trust in your ability to sort shit out. thanks! and edgeworth is just like ah wright the last bastion of justice and hope in this universe the man who shines so brilliantly before my eyes (or whatever the hell the line is i forgot) my dear and indispensible friend of course i will do this for you. it's just. the more you look at it the more the trilogy and investigations make it clearer that phoenix and edgeworth are just two guys in their twenties who do not really know or understand each other at ALL
littel idea :)
so vampires are more sensitive to light, right? i like to think that also means their threshold for annoying/blinding light is lower too and that their eyes are also sensitive.
now. monster AU Miles is a silly lil autistic vampire. hypersensitive eyes + the world is just too bright = overstimulated vampire boi
Solution! He has sunglasses he wears often (and has many pairs because it’s fun to accessorize)
