Hi all!  This is going to be a more serious post than usual!  So sorry.  Before I start I will say I may edit this post after posting it if new info is added.  

This post is not intended to be a callout, rather, a critique of Kasafraz, a member of the Eddsworld staff most popular for their fanart outside of their job.

Kasafraz is a tbatf supporter.  They have a cameo within the comic and one of the creators has posted their collaboration with Kas, of which they reblogged with no apprehension.  With someone so knee-deep in the Eddsworld community, I doubt they don't know what exactly wrong with TBATF.  If you're curious, there are numerous posts about it on this platform that articulate it better than I could.

Another big point I have is that Kasafraz has numerously made comics about Edd going "insane" and playing with puppets due to isolation.  This is a callback to 'This World of Edd' (circa 2007).  This is mocking psychotic people.  It is ableist.  The original episode is a product of its time and should have been left alone, and the comics came out in 2022 and 2023 (I will not address the queerbaiting though because that is out of Kas's control).  Also, playing with puppets is normal.  Making psychotic people the butt of the joke is just harmful, especially with what Matt Hargreaves has said about people with DID/OSDD/UDD/etc. 

One more thing before I get to more minor grievances is that for pride month this year, there was a series of posts that was centered around the main cast of Eddsworld at a pride parade.  On paper, this sounds good, but the series was entirely focused around them.  The canonically queer characters (Kim, Katya, those two unnamed sapphics, (questionably) Mark, Chester) were reduced to background cameos, and that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. These pieces were all, to my knowledge, worked on by Kasafraz.

More minor things will be listed under the cut, as well as screenshots.

Doesn't draw Eduardo because they don't want people thirsting after him.  They draw Future Edd for people to thirst after.

When an introject asked to be drawn (albeit masked, so it was not clear, but one click would've been enough to see that I at least existed) they drew the source character essentially dead (ghost) and said they were going to draw a grave.

Says fanmade merchandise is bad, because it's taking their money.  Artists have to live too?  Additionally, if people are buying merch secondhand/fanmade, they weren't going to buy from Eddsworld anyway.  They also alluded to people not buying merch for "disliking a person on the team" as if there's not NUMEROUS posts about Matt H. and Christopher B.'s misconduct (they are the heads of Eddsworld.  It is not just some guy on the team.)

Personally i'd rather be disgusted, offended, and angry than bored, so in my opinion the fan movie is the worst. No hate to anyone who likes any of these things though, i'm glad you liked something i didn't. lmao sure king, i know youre probably thinking of the "criticisms of eddsworld" post that i had in my drafts but i need to finish that. instead so nobody is hungry, ill post the script of me "the end of the eddsworld discord server" here and honestly i have always felt safer here. i left twitter because of certain people and certain feelings. mental health is shit and my paranoia is shitter.

The End of the Eddsworld Discord Server

Well- Cuts to - yes im using the dementia music, this video was supposed to come out before or even close after the closure of the server. Stuff happened and I’m tired. Please excuse what I say that may not matter anymore. I just want to get a video out and it starts by pushing this. ZZZZZZZZ. Happy Halloween or Christmas honestly it could be either.

I suppose it was going to happen at some point, it’s finally the end of the eddsworld discord server. Well expect for the patrons, they still get to do whatever lol. If you’re not in the loop, eddsworld had a discord server, to sum it up it was a place to converse with fellow edd-heads and well isn’t amino. But of course, it doesn’t come out with its own flaws. I mean there was a whole twitter account to showing the weird side of it. It’s over, the eddsworld discord is dead. Whatever the fuck all this is, is gone. Originally this was going to be made a few days before the closure of the discord but I got busy. Busy to the point where the discord server closed like a month ago [THAT’S SO FUNNY SKALULI ITS BEEN EVEN MORE MONTHS] and I’ve only started this script now. It’s called poor time management, don’t be me. [AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA] So, let’s just attempt to bullet point this stuff. Also warning now, I might not have screenshots of everything and I can’t get anything else because well paywall, and even if I did pay, I don’t even know if the original chat still exists. AAAAAA, anyway. I guess I shall start with the “paywall”. So as you know or maybe didn’t or didn’t hear what I said before, the eddsworld server technically didn’t close, just to access the chats and stuff you have to be a patron. But listen kings we get the bloody announcements and twitter feed, yeAHHH. Ahem. Some questions being asked were along the lines of, well why didn’t you just make a separate patron server. Therefore, people not paying still get a somewhere to talk to other eddsworld fans under moderation. Of course, many questions like that and more being asked because well this kinda came out of nowhere. One of the issues is the fact that nobody was answering any of the questions being asked. Avoiding it essentially. Saying things out of the blue, I assume to try and calm the scenario that was created.

Which well got people angry, because well they have a reason to, and you can not deny that. But the thing is the anger got so out of hand that people just started death threating mods. A big note I have to make is that the mods, the crew of which is not Chris or Matthew, and or any of the pateron supporters had a choice in this. They most likely didn’t even know it was coming. You shouldn’t death threat mods and not even just mods just other patreon supporters. [I don’t have screenshots of this but im going by word of someone who said that that was happening to them.] You don’t need me telling you this, it’s basic knowledge. But you do know why they’re doing it though. Because what do you expect by suddenly taking a once-free community and putting a pay-wall over it. Of course people are going to be upset and lash out, even to these extremes. Yes the mods don’t deserve to get treated like this, but they’re getting treated that way by the fans in this case because of what you did. You being Chris and or Matthew. And you yourself not answering on behalf of mods. Leaving themselves having to speak for themselves on a situation that they had no control over. Having to dose the fires of a fire they didn’t even start. An issue being said that the server was getting to out of hand, so it’d just be easier to do what they did [kill the server]. But then why don’t you just hire more mods to manage the community you created? Who knows.

Also not to put my own opinion in here but I kept seeing messages being like “Edd wouldn’t have wanted this” what the fuck. No offense but don’t say that, never say that. Stop. Just pretty please don’t try to speak on behalf on a man that’s been dead for over a decade and act like you would know what he would have wanted. Sorry for the tangent just I see this happening when whatever happens and kids commenting “Edd wouldn’t have wanted this.” Please shush.

Listen I hate kids, I know they can be dumb as shit, I mean after just hearing all that especially. But also, at the end of the day I care about them and if they like and feel safe in the hell of the eddsworld server than you shouldn’t take it away from them. I understand that fan servers are being made but oh god my paranoia of something going wrong since it doesn’t have “trusted moderation” I’m not sure how to put it. It was really only the official safe space to communicate with other eddheads. I just worry that there will be some with ill intentions. I think you can allow me to think that at this point.

And to end it all off, you know how the server’s purpose was just to keep patron content to patrons.

Damn that sure did work.

[Note I didn’t write this “now” I wrote this a few days after I mashed this script together.] Okay originally the script ends there on a somewhat snarky remark but while pacing I thought about how I want to make sure my point gets across. I make these videos to help and not harm, by saying that I mean there seems to be a lack of communication between the fans and the crew. And personally, myself I want to try and make a bridge between the two, my own attempts being to show each side and see everything through a different view. Not only I criticize the fans because I want them to improve, I criticize eddsworld because I want the same out of them. Neither is better than the other.

Quick reminder: You can be upset over what Tord's done while still not putting him on the same level as Matt and Bing. Yes, Tord making racist and islamophobic jokes during 2006 is something you're allowed to be upset over, but putting that on the same level as harassment, (alleged) SA, scamming and well, the post can only be so long, is genuinely sickening.

[TDLR AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POST] I feel like something that hasn't been talked about in detail was when the official Eddsworld Discord server turned into a Patreon-exclusive one. The only thing I ever heard was that it was because Matt/Bing only cares about money, which isn't true.

I never really took the time to talk about my opinion since there was so much going on with my life that any added drama was something I didn't want to have to deal with.

So for context, I've been part of the server since it became public. In August 2020, I became a curator, and in February 2021, I became a moderator. I've been moderating the server until the beginning of October 2022, when I finally stepped down. I already summarized the reason I left, but I didn't mention that it was because of both the team and the members that I left the mod team. I'm still pretty mixed about the change, but I'll address a few things I liked and didn't like.

Why I was against the change:

- The server, at the time of the change, was a little over 12,000 users. As multiple people have already said, putting that amount of people behind a paywall all of a sudden is really sucky. Especially since many of my friends who were part of the server can't make that choice, whether it be because of age or their financial situation. Creating a separate server for them wasn't an option as it would've doubled our work as moderators and didn't eliminate the problem that partially caused the change in the first place.

- I also didn't want the change because I was attached to the server. I joined the moderation team so that there could be a bridge between the fans and the team. That change would destroy that bridge even more than all the 2021 drama did, and that's something I didn't want. Mainly because I got constantly attacked for things, the EW team did, even though I had nothing to do with it. I was scared that I would be attacked even though I had no say in the choice, which ended up happening anyways.

- I enjoyed seeing different people all the time and watching the various "eras" of the Eddsworld discord server pass by. There would always be a group of super active users who, after a while, step back, and then a new group of users appear. That and more people were thankful that I constantly ensured the server was stable. Nowadays, it feels more like I'm moderating a group chat than a community, which wasn't what I originally came on the mod team for.

Why I wasn't against the change:

When Bing first gave us the heads up about the change, we were all against it, primarily because of the arguments users have currently been making. However, he took the time to explain it to us in VC, and I've seen nobody discuss the things he said, not that I've seen anyways.

- First of all, the mod team. For the longest time, we were just 2-3 people keeping an eye on 12k members, two of us being volunteers. It might not seem like a lot, but it is, especially when you think about the mentality of some of the EW community.

With such a big and easily accessible server, we were often faced with false accusations against us and lots of harassment just because, to them, we were directly part of the EW team, which meant we were automatically bad people. It was because of this constant harassment that we were all getting exhausted.

A smaller number of users, especially those generally more mature, would stop most of these interactions and let us catch our breath. Hiring more mods wasn't an option when the easier option was right there. Besides, hiring more mods would move them away from working on Eddsworld, which isn't something they should do.

Focusing on EW is a better priority than getting more moderators, which might not even help as the number of members isn't a huge problem; it's the type of audience the server had.

- Another thing was... a lot of the members in general. I expected it, we all did, but the chaos that came once the announcement was made broke my heart. Users who were once role models and super kind people were lashing out; others were sending death threats or threatening to dox them since they were okay with the change. Many people broke the rules that day, which drained me a lot. I even had to miss classes because I felt so unwell mentally. They proved why the change had to happen by trying to undo it.

- One point Bing made was that he never really wanted the server to get so big in the first place and didn't like the direction it was heading in. He tried to make it Patreon exclusive so the patrons could have a place to hang out and get more benefits for helping the show out, similar to what other YouTubers, streamers, etc., are doing. He said that the team would feel more comfortable interacting with users with a smaller group of people. Since the change, I can see that being true. I've seen the team interact more, doing more streams, etc., without many issues. I remember one of the team members being falsely attacked just because of how often they were streaming games and such before the change. I agree that Bing should've made the server Patreon exclusive in the first place instead of waiting so long. However, I doubt they would've had so many members at the beginning, especially since the server went public in early 2019 and the Patreon was made in late 2020 when they released Fan Service 2.

After the change

Once the server was only accessible to Patrons, things were settled down and such. People were still angry about it, so the preview for the new episode was leaked. One thing went to another and... I ended up being the only mod left standing.

Now, let me tell you, I suck at doing things independently. I didn't have anyone to discuss server issues with, which stressed me a lot. That, and how I usually bottle up feelings and emotions until it bursts, caused me to lash out a few times and act unprofessionally. That made me realize that I can't keep moderating. I didn't want to further ruin the reputation of Eddsworld or myself, so I told them that I'd step down on the 1st of October.

Do I regret it? Partially. I miss not being able to take action when a user misbehaves, and I'll miss being the one users can trust whenever things go wrong. Alas, I'm someone who works best in a team when it comes to moderation, not alone. I'm hoping they can either manage the server on their own or get someone with more experience to handle it.

I'm not too angry about everything that happened, it was just how things had to go. The way the fans interacted only added fuel to the fire that had started and I got tired of being dragged directly into it.

TLDR: Eddsworld community points fingers and harasses volunteer mods + team members not involved in discourse/drama. Bing wanted to stop that and didn't want Patrons to waste their money (probably due to the lack of posts), so he made it Patreon-only. The stress of being the only moderator left and added drama caused by users made it so I stepped down, and now they don't have any more dedicated mods as of posting this.

Please do not attack anyone over this. Not the users, not the EW team. The team is constantly trying their best to balance things out, and I understand that some users were pretty overwhelmed by the announcement and have probably moved on from it.

certain eddsworld crew members also openly work with people who work on tbatf which is not the greatest considering, disregarding all the tbatf creator controversies outside of the comics, the fact that tbatf is filled with n*zi imagery, a "joke" that is in such poor taste i dont feel comfortable talking about it, and several instances of racism.

not to mention modern eddsworld getting rid of nearly every interesting secondary character to push the new side characters nobody cares about because they're unfunny and annoying. any character left standing has been stripped of all intrigue (let's be fr does eduardo need redemption??)

additionally, the canon queer characters have been sidelined for pride month this year yet again. the only improvement theyve gotten is BEING THERE this time which is the bare minimum. they were in the background if ur curious. unfortunately, no, edd is not canonically aroace and tom is not canonically bi, but i wish they were to justify their focus in the pride pieces this year . i do genuinely like the inclusion of the queer members of eddsworld's staff tho!

im so confused what have i missed

some popular ew artist got caught aging up minor characters to draw some weird ass shit, but there have also been some other things hanging around, mostly on twitter fandom tho. I've just see this as a repeating offense in the fandom of someone getting big, then something happens, outroar starts and then it rinse and repeats and nothing really was done about the person and they kinda crawl back into the fandom or go elsewhere to do their bs. Be it on Instagram, twitter, or tumblr.

it just me from the outside looking in and it always kinda concern me how it kept happening and sometimes when it does happen these people got their hooks in deep into their fans and you got them using their fans to go hurt others blah blah, a mess.

Ngl I'm really not liking Eddsworld Beyond so far and I don't have any faith in it. From issues with the crew, to stupid plot holes that didn't need to be there, the show doesn't seem to have that sort of Eddsworld charm to it. I love both Classic and Legacy and have watched most if not all episodes at least once or twice (which is quite cool since I had never actually watched both in full up until this point.) Eddsworld Beyond however, I haven't watched them all yet and I'm going to be honest I've been putting it off because I haven't liked the ones I have watched.

This isn't to say that its all bad of course! Some good things have come out of it like the ellsworld ver of ringo, the canon teen designs making an appearance... nvm I cant think of anything else uhhhh... zombie edd maybe? I think there was a tomedd joke somewhere? idk.

Its confirmed that they're working on a sequel for WTFuture and that they're going to do an Edwardo centred ep, but I'm going to be honest I'm really not hyped for it (especially since their apparently trying to erase Tord from canon which would surely effect both of those episodes quite a bit right?) If I'm being honest, I'm probably going to go there to get screenshots and then never come back like I have with the other episodes. Maybe download it so people can pirate it (cuz i have an ad blocker) but that'll probs only be if no one else does, especially since I'd feel bad for taking money from the actual good people on the EW team that are just working with what they've been given.
