Bestfriend!Eddie who has never thought of you in an explicit way. You’ve been friends since middle school and are now well into your 20’s, stunning all of your mutual friends by your consistently platonic relationship (through no fault of your own).
Following a spontaneous night of drinking, you ended up sleeping over, having accidentally gotten a little too wine drunk whilst hanging out. This wasn’t the first time you had spent the night in the Munson’s trailer. Normally, you and Eddie would take turns sleeping on the pull out bed, alternating each time so at least one of you could get a good night’s sleep during your stay.
On this particular night, Wayne was off work, making the small cot unavailable. Despite Eddie offering to sleep on the barcalounger, his uncle wasn’t having any of that.
“Boy, i don’t want you sleepin’ upright in here. Lookin’ like the damn exorcism chick, freakin’ me out.”
He had a point.
You both made your way to his bedroom to get set up. With alcohol flowing through your veins, the prospect of sharing a bed together didn’t seem like a big deal to either of you. You settled in for the night, borrowing an old t-shirt and some clean boxers of his to sleep in.
It was a particularity cold night and you were notoriously selfish in your sleep. You greedily pulled on the blanket throughout the night, stirring Eddie out of his sleep. He woke up shivering, glancing around in confusion until he was conscious enough to remember your presence.
He grumpily turned to face you and quickly snatched the blankets back so he could be covered once more. His rapid movements caused the duvet to slide off of you, exposing your sleeping body as you laid on your stomach, one leg hiked up to your side. This position caused the boxers you were wearing to ride up your ass ever so slightly, really showcasing your figure. Eddie paused for a second as his brain short-circuited. He stared at you, his best friend of 10+ years, stunned and confused by the way you were unintentionally making his boxers feel tight.

"This year's different. This year, is my year. I can feel it... '86 baby!"
And that, it was.
Things finally seemed to be taking a turn for the better in Eddie's life. That year, he geared down and put all of his time and focus into his school work determined not to spend one more second in what was, in his opinion, the most dreadful place in town; Hawkins High. Graduation day finally came and as promised to his fellow Hellfire Club members, who all attended the ceremony, he gave the performance of a lifetime on that stage. 'They can't get me in trouble anymore.' he thought as he shredded an air guitar whilst sprinting towards the faculty, hollering as he did so. Once he was face to face with his long time nemesis, Principal Higgins, all of the cleverly thought out disses he had come up with over the last year seemed to fade away. He blamed it on nerves, but deep down he knew that his distain was overshadowed by an immense sense of joy and relief. To everyone's surprise, Eddie calmly grabbed his diploma with a mischievous smile and exited the auditorium gracefully.
'Finally, a new chapter can begin.'
_
After some much needed time off in the summer allowed him to contemplate his next move in life, Eddie started applying for jobs around Hawkins. His preferred establishments such as the library and record store were, unfortunately, not hiring. Despite the tried and true efforts of his friends at Family Video, they too, were not in need of new employees. He contemplated sticking to his main source of income, but knew that the drug market in Hawkins was not a sustainable nor stable option. Truth be told, he only started dealing as a way of making extra cash whilst still in school. He grew tired of it pretty quickly, but promised himself that the second he would graduate, he would ditch this unconventional side hustle.
His new objective was finding work that would allow him to make enough money to find a place of his own. As much as he loved Wayne and was forever grateful to his uncle for taking him in, he couldn't stand to see him spend one more night on the dreadful pull out mattress.
After weeks of grueling efforts on Eddie's behalf, Wayne came home with some good news one Saturday afternoon. With a hiring flyer and about 8 bags of groceries in hand, he nearly kicked the trailer door down from excitement. "Eddie! Boy, you home?"
Eddie quickly shuffled out of his bedroom to see what the commotion was about. Noting his uncle's erratic breathing and bulging eyes, he was quick to grab the grocery bags out of his hands to allow him to catch his breath.
"Everything okay?" he asked cautiously, unsure what had his normally calm uncle so frazzled.
Wayne waved the flyer into the air and let out a series of chuckles. "More than okay, look what they had hangin' on the wall near the checkout at the supermarket!"
As Eddie turned to face the piece of paper in his uncle's hand, a grimace started to form on his face when he processed the words written on it. "Ah man, i don't know. I'm not really skilled in the art of packing groceries..."
"Come on now, son. You already know the basics, where do the eggs go?"
Eddie stared blankly at his uncle while blinking slowly. Wayne blinked back at Eddie theatricality while motioning for a response.
"Uh, in the bag...?"
"Where in the bag, boy?" his uncle persisted, his once excited tone now slightly annoyed.
"Maybe on top so they don't get broken...?"
"See! It's common knowledge. You could also stock shelves or somethin if you don't wanna pack the bags!"
"Yeah, it's worth a shot, i could use the money..."
_
Come to find out, the supermarket was in dire need of staff members, and Eddie got the job that same day. Given that the entire store was understaffed, he was able to snag his preferred position of stocking shelves. The uniforms weren't great, and having to hear the same tunes everyday was somewhat unbearable, but the money was good so he couldn't complain.
A few weeks into his new employment, Eddie was introduced to the newest addition to the team. Given that she was also put in the stocking department, they spent much of their time working together and got along great. They would often joke around together, their sense of humor practically identical. Along with her kind and rambunctious personality, they also shared common interests such as reading and music. She was the perfect girl, he thought.
Upon getting to know one another, Eddie quickly learned, much to his dismay, that she had recently moved to Hawkins with her boyfriend so he could be closer to his family.
Needless to say, Eddie's love life was never something he had the opportunity or desire to explore whilst in school. The lack of female attention and constant bullying made it difficult for him to find anyone he wanted to get to know in a romantic way. He was rather disappointed to find out that his latest love interest was already spoken for, but quickly accepted it as such.
This minor disappointment didn't stop them from blossoming a wholesome friendship over the course of the next few months. Their normal 7 hour work days always seemed so short, and Eddie was longing to spend more time with his new friend outside of their place of work. Unfortunately, the fear of rejection, accompanied by the constant sense of exclusion he had faced in his prior years had really taken a toll on his confidence, preventing him from ever seeking out friendships outside of his circle of friends.
Those thoughts and worries were momentarily silenced one Friday morning when, to his pleasant surprise, she enquired about his plans for the weekend. This wasn't unusual, they often spoke of their upcoming outings, but typically Eddie was the one to initiate this topic of conversation in hopes that she would suggest hanging out. The idea of potentially spending time together outside of work was thrilling, so he tried his best to play it cool. "A whole lotta nothing, how about you?"
"My boyfriend's colleagues invited him out to this party but i don't really want to go..."
"So you're hoping a conflict arises preventing you from attending this social obligation?" he quipped while smiling.
"Actually, i was hoping maybe you know the person hosting the party and wouldn't mind attending? It'd be nice to see a familiar face there when my boyfriend inevitably ditches me."
Her eyes met the floor as she spoke her last sentence, an action that didn't go unnoticed. The topic of her significant other wasn't mentioned often, in fact, most times Eddie forget she even had a boyfriend. Of the times he was passively mentioned in conversation, Eddie got the impression that he wasn't the nicest person and that she wasn't entirely happy with him. He tried his best to set aside those thoughts, thinking they were definitely biased and he might be reading too much into the situation.
"Does this mysterious party host have a name?" he said in an attempt to lighten the mood.
"Tom Silverman i think, have you heard of him?" she asked, hope radiating from her eyes.
"As luck would have it, he's friends with my buddy Gareth! I could probably make an appearance." he teased.
"Yeah? Think you could make time in your busy schedule for me?" she reciprocated.
"For you? Anything."
_
The drive back to her place felt like a blur. Her mind was clouded with thoughts of her earlier interaction with Eddie paired with the excitement of spending time with him later at the party. She loved her boyfriend, she really did, but...
She couldn't bring herself to say it, let alone think it. The reality was, he didn't treat her the way she wanted to be treated. Hell, the way she deserved to be treated. Prior to them moving to Hawkins, Samuel had cheated on her for months on end with a close friend of hers. The betrayal was unforgivable, at least, that's what she thought at the time. Samuel had a way of getting into her head, planting ideas of his own and spinning the truth in ways that would make her question everything.
Following the infidelity, he had managed to convince her that the best way to make amends and save their relationship would be to move away from their hometown. Far from all distractions so they could focus on rebuilding what was broken. This was far from what she wanted, now more than ever since meeting Eddie. He was always so kind to her, a luxury far too often stripped away in her current relationship with Samuel. She loved how she felt when she was around Eddie, even in their strictly platonic relationship.
The hypocrisy of the situation made her want to melt away into a big pile of nothingness. She could feel herself growing fonder of Eddie with each passing interaction, no matter how mundane they were. Something as simple as Eddie asking her about her weekend, or when her birthday was, warmed her heart. Did Samuel even care to remember? He forgot about it last year.
Guilt was eating away at her the more her feelings grew. She would never cheat on Samuel, knowing all too well how heart wrenching of an experience that is to go though. Despite that, she couldn't help the gnawing feeling of infidelity as she felt her feelings for Eddie become more prominent and the distance between her and her partner growing. It wasn't all her fault of course, she suspected Samuel was still up to no good whenever the phone would ring at odd times throughout the night and he'd shoot out of bed to answer it. She knew interrogating him was no use, so she kept mental notes of all the occurrences, in hopes of one day working up the courage to leave him.
Apart from him persuading her into staying, there was also the web of lies she felt she had to uphold to avoid judgement from her loved ones, Eddie included. She felt awful lying to him about the reason for her move, but at the time, thought it was necessary for some sense of self-preservation.
As she pulled into her apartment complex, her racing thoughts came to a halt. She put the car in park, let out a sigh and made her way into the building. Once inside, she was met with none other than Samuel, already plastered at 4:48pm, the party wasn't until 9pm. This would make for a long grueling night. She quietly greeted him before excusing herself to go freshen up.
Samuel's work friends arrived shortly after she got into the shower, the sudden ruckus alerting her of their presence. She hurried out of the shower so to not hog the bathroom for too long and tried sneaking into their shared bedroom without alerting the group. Her efforts were overshadowed by a distasteful comment made from one of the men. She wasn't sure what bothered her more, the unsolicited remark about her body from a complete stranger, or the fact that her boyfriend, the man who was supposed to look out for her, laughed and entertained such disrespectful banter.
The frustration made tears well up in her eye as she quickly shut the bedroom door and locked it, hoping she wouldn't have to face the men for a few more hours until they had to leave. All the while, the only thing keeping her sane was the prospect of seeing Eddie later.
_
Eddie was a bundle of nerves from the moment he clocked out of work until he pulled up to the party with Gareth. Six pack in hand, he nervously made his way towards the front door before being stopped by his companion.
"Hey man, there's nothing to be nervous about, alright? If you wanna leave at any point, just let me know."
Gareth's reassuring words did little to alleviate Eddie's stress, but it was still nice for him to know that he had support tonight. With that in mind, he gave his friend an anxious smile and they let themselves into party.
Upon first glance, the party was lively and everyone was having a great time. The pair made their way towards the kitchen to put their beer in the fridge, then made an attempt at finding the host to greet him. Eddie had never met Tom, but had heard good things about him through their mutual friend. Whilst on the hunt for him, Eddie's eyes made contact with a sad looking girl sitting alone on a dingy sofa in the back of the living room, red solo cup in hand. He excused himself from Gareth and quickly made his way over to his friend. The moment their eyes locked, excitement was riddled on her face. She jumped off the couch and embraced him in what was arguably the best hug he had ever received.
"You came!!" she exclaimed, visibly intoxicated.
"I'm a man of my word." he said in a playful tone, placing a hand on his heart.
She playfully shoved his shoulder while taking a sip from her drink, giggling the entire time.
"So uh, where's your boyfriend? Am i finally gonna meet the man of the hour?" Eddie's tone was less than enthusiastic, through no fault of his own. Luckily she was too drunk to notice.
"Well," she began, "as presumed, i have been abandoned. Yet again!" although she tried covering it up with a laughter, her eyes gave away her true emotion.
"Well," he said mimicking her tone, "i am more than happy to entertain you until he gets back."
He could have sworn he saw a faint tint of pink painted on her cheeks for a moment. A tender smile was shared between the two before he was abruptly shoved by an unknown subject who was quick to wrap an arm around her.
"Oh sorry man" the lack of sympathy along with his cocky grin gave away the man's identity.
Samuel.
"Don't sweat it, man." Eddie retorted, annoyance prevalent on his face.
She gave Eddie an apologetic look before introducing the two. Her boyfriend quickly brushed off the pleasantries and turned his attention back to his girlfriend.
"Where have you been babe?" he slurred, his hold on her arm becoming increasingly tighter. Her discomfort was clear and as Eddie was about to intervene, she calmly lifted his arm off of her while stating: "Waiting for you, babe." her tone replicating the one Eddie had adopted moments ago.
Samuel grew annoyed, muttering something under his breath before once again, disappearing into the crowd.
"He seems friendly." Eddie stated in an attempt to break the awkward silence.
"I'm sorry about him, he's... not the best at introductions."
"No kidding..."
Moments passed without further dialogue, Eddie debated mentioning his concerns but felt it wasn't his place. I mean really, how would he even put into words what he was thinking? 'Hey, you know that douchebag boyfriend of yours? Yeah, he doesn't deserve you'.
"Well," she broke the silence, "I better go check on him, will you stay a while?"
"As long as you need me" he responded.
She shot him a warm smile before venturing into the crowd to find Samuel. Eddie waited until she was outside of his line of vision before letting his smile falter. He quickly ushered to the fridge to grab a can of beer to calm his nerves. The rush of euphoria from seeing her accompanied with the displeasure of meeting Samuel left him feeling very disgruntled. He was zoned out, sipping the beer in his hands relentlessly, when he felt a hand tap him on the bicep. Turning his attention towards the person to his right, he was met with a familiar face.
"Hey, you alright?" Gareth asked, concern prevalent in his tone.
"Nah man, wanna go have a smoke?"
_
The initial effects of the alcohol she had consumed in an attempt to numb herself seemed to have faded away quickly following Samuel and Eddie's interaction. As much as she wanted to spend the night with Eddie and let her boyfriend mingle on his own, she felt obligated to go looking for him. The party wasn't held at a mansion by any means, but it certainly wasn't a small house. After searching for what seemed like 25 minutes, she finally found Samuel along with a few of his friends in a bedroom in the basement. Upon entering, the first thing she noticed was a dark green colored table with small plastic bags on it, filled with what looked to be pills. She was quickly ushered into the room and prompted to lock the door before being urged to sit down.
"Sam, what are you doing-"
"Babe, baby, hi!" his tone was drastically different from their previous encounter. He seemed much more erratic and his pupils were blown out.
"Are you okay? I've been looking for you-"
"Yeah. Yeah, yeah. I'm great baby. How are you?"
His frantic eyes and antsy demeanor, accompanied by the unknown substance beside him gave her all the context she needed: He was high. She contemplated her next move, being careful not to upset him.
"I'm fine," she started, "actually, i'm a little tired, i think i'm ready to go home." She knew little could be done to grant her wishes at this point given that she had had far too much to drink to operate a vehicle and Samuel was much less equipt to in this state.
"What... Really? No baby, the night's just starting. You're not having fun?" She was getting ready to answer before being abruptly cut off, his question apparently rhetorical. "I know what will help. Have this." He grabbed her hand and placed one of the chalky pills in her palm.
"I'm not doing drugs, Sam." she said firmly.
"Do you trust me?"
She paused, knowing this was a trap. This wasn't the first time he'd used this tactic to get her to do something she didn't want to. Her delay in responding seemed to aggravate him and he was quick to snap at her.
"Fine, go home then. I just wanted to have a nice time with you tonight. S'what i get for trying." He began shifting his body away from her, turning his attention back to the group.
Through no fault of her own, it had been hard-wired into her brain that in order to avoid an argument and mental torture for the next week, it was easier to agree with whatever he was saying.
"No, no! It's just..."
"You're scared?" his friend said while snickering.
"I've just never done this before..." she replied looking away so no one could see her anxiety ridden expression.
Samuel cupped her face with his hands, an act of intimacy he hadn't shown in years. She melted into his touch, craving to feel a sense of worthiness. "Baby, you'll be fine. I took it and feel amazing. We'll feel amazing together and i'll take care of you if you don't feel good. I promise."
Samuel had often made promises he couldn't keep, and although the little voice in the back of her mind was screaming for her to walk away, she fell victim to his manipulation once again. They exchanged a few promising words to one another before she swallowed the small narcotic, internally comforting herself: 'What's the worst that could happen?'
_
Following a much needed cigarette break and pep talk from Gareth, Eddie composed himself and entered the house once again. Once inside, he scanned the room in an attempt to spot out his friend, but was unsuccessful. He figured she might be using the restroom or mingling with people around the house and decided to enjoy his second and final beer of the night with Gareth.
_
20 minutes had passed since she took the unknown substance from her boyfriend, and up until this point, she had convinced herself that she probably wouldn't feel it, or that if she did, it would feel the same as marijuana. But oh, she was wrong. So very wrong. She noticed her heart began to beat faster and her palms were significantly more damp than before. She felt this overwhelming sense of anxiety wash over her and her ears began to ring. Still sat next to Samuel, she grabbed ahold of his arm in a subtle attempt at getting his attention. Whether he was too high to notice or purposely ignoring her, he had no reaction to her touch. Initially feeling embarrassment, she put that feeling aside and decided to vocalize her distress.
"Baby, i don't feel good, m'heart's beating really fast and-" words kept spilling out of her mouth at a much faster rate than she normally spoke. The chatter in the room never faltered, the noise adding fuel to the fire, making her anxiety worsen. Samuel eventually cut her off, insisting on the fact that she was fine. His invalidation floored her feeling of distress, her heartbeat increasing in speed. She could now hear it in her ears. "I don't like this baby, i wanna go home. Please, can we go home." she pleaded, tears starting to form in her eyes.
Samuel grew annoyed with her, his high being compromised by his girlfriend's distress. He offered to take her to a different room, away from all the noise and she agreed, the commotion from the room she was currently in proving to be too much. Luckily for her, there was an additional guest room in the basement, one that was currently vacant. The prospect of spending one on one time with her boyfriend, especially while in such a vulnerable state brought a great deal of comfort to her. That sense of relief was short lived as he stated that he wanted to get back to his friends, insisting on her trying to get some sleep.
Unbeknownst to her, the drug she took was a stimulate, making sleeping next to impossible. Information that Samuel conveniently didn't mention for his own benefit.
He tucked her into bed and promised that if she called out for him he'd be there within seconds. With a kiss goodnight and more reassuring words, he shut the light, closed the door and headed back to the adjacent bedroom to continue his antics. She was left with her wandering anxious thoughts, but tried her best to fall asleep.
After a short while, her attempts were unsuccessful and her anxiety worsened. She tried to calm herself down to no avail and resorted to calling for her boyfriend. No answer. She tried once more, this time a little louder. Still nothing. Time seemed to escape her. She wasn't sure if an hour or 5 minutes had passed. All she knew was that she had been calling for him for what seemed like forever, to no avail. The most hurtful part of it all was overhearing him talking and laughing with his friends in the adjacent room. Surely if she could hear him, he could hear her? Perhaps he was choosing to ignore he cries for help. The idea of getting out of bed to venture into the other room was far too overwhelming in this state, so she settled into bed, holding onto the sheets tightly and hoped that he would come check up on her soon.
_
With almost an hour having passed since he had last seen her, Eddie grew concerned. He figured with the amount of time that had passed, it wasn't unreasonable to ask the other party goers if they had seen her.
His efforts, although valiant, were unsuccessful. Once he established that she wasn't on the main floor, he decided to wander around the house in hopes of running into her. When he overheard Samuel and a group of men cackling in the basement, he made his way down the stairs.
Once he reached to bottom of steps, he noticed a source of light coming from a closed door, the secondary living room he was now standing in vacant and dark. 'Mystery solved.' he thought, she must be in there with Samuel and his friends. As he started up the stairs again, he stopped dead in his tracks when he heard a faint voice coming from the back of the basement. He slowly made his way towards the unlit room and placed an ear against the closed door. That's when he heard it again, only this time, he recognized her voice, calling out for her boyfriend.
Eddie wasted no time opening the door, only to find her laying in bed in the dark. He carefully made his was towards her, crouching down to her level.
"Hey, hey. It's Eddie. Are you okay?" he gently asked. The only response heard was a series of whimpers. Once his eyes adjusted to the darkness, his heart broke. The light from the living room that leaked into the guest room reflected off of her tear stained cheeks and puffy eyelids; she had been crying for quite some time. Eddie wasn't an expert on body language, but judging from her tight grip on the bed sheets and her limbs curled into the fetal position, he could tell she was scared.
"Hey, hey. It's okay, you're safe. I promise. Do you need water? I'll get you anything you need, just tell me..." he stopped himself from uttering anything else, worried he would overwhelm her with questions. After pausing for a moment, he swallowed his pride before asking: "Do you need me to get Samuel?"
She let out a soft cry, her grip on the bed sheets tightening. The mere mention of his name reminded her of the betrayal she felt. He promised he would look after her, but didn't. Instead, he left her in such a vulnerable state, a state she never wanted to be in in the first place.
In her best attempt at composing herself, she was able to mutter out a sentence before her breathe hitched again: "I wanna go home, please." she buried her face in the covers as her body shook, a combination of crying excessively and the drug shaking her form. She was so cold, no amount of heat from the blankets seemed to help.
"Okay, okay, i'll get you home. Just... One minute. I'll be right back, i promise."
Eddie carefully got up and exited to room, gently shutting the door. He made his was towards the room Samuel was in, politeness the last thing on his mind as he barged in. He glanced around the room, noticing the drugs littered across the table, then met Samuel's gaze.
"Are you aware that your girlfriend is crying her eyes out 10 feet away from you?" he spat, shooting daggers at him.
There was a moment of silence, followed by snickering from a few of the men in the room. One of them who, Eddie could only assume was a friend of Samuel's spoke up. "Jesus, what a buzz kill, you owe me for that pill, Sam."
It all clicked. Eddie's vision blurred in what could only be described as a cloud of fury. The echo's of their laughter only fueled his rage as he started putting together what had happened. With every ounce of restraint he could muster, he gave Samuel once last death glare before storming out, being mindful not to slam the door to prevent startling her in the other room.
Slowly opening the door, he tried to come up with the best plan on how to proceed. The two beers he had drank over the last 2 1/2 hours were in no way enough to inebriate him and he knew she needed to be taken home. Once again crouched down by the bedside, he gently placed a hand on her shoulder and began speaking softly.
"Hey, it's Eddie. I can take you home, just need to know your address."
Her crying had subsided but she was shivering and grinding her teeth uncontrollably, a side effect Eddie recognized from whatever drug she had taken. Her lack of response prompted him to try again, this time in a much softer tone.
"Sweetheart, i'll take you home just please, i don't know where you live. Do you have your house keys? Where do you and Samuel live?"
The whimpers that left her lips broke his heart. Eddie figured if he couldn't get an answer out of her in this environment, maybe removing the stress factor would help.
"Okay, can you stand up for me? Here, let's get you up"
As he began helping her from the bed, her sudden exclamation startled him. "No! Please, m'really cold. I need a blanket." Distress painted across her face as she wrapped her arms around her frame, Eddie pondered what the best option would be. After a few seconds, he figured Gareth could deal with the repercussion of his next action later.
"Okay, come on, i've got you." he said as he gently wrapped the giant comforter around her shoulders, guiding her out of the room.
Once they arrived at the base of the steps, he grabbed the excess blanket that was previously dragging along the floor to prevent her from tripping. She was unsteady from the drug, her legs felt like they were made of jelly. Eddie helped her up the stairs, supporting the majority of her weight. Once they reached the main floor, he directed her towards the sofa she was sitting on earlier in the evening and helped her down onto the soft cushion.
"Wait right here." he said in a caring voice. As he began getting up from his crouched position, he felt a cold, damp hand grabbing his.
"Wait, wait, where are you going?" her voice was low but filled with worry. He turned to her, finally getting a good look at her face since being in the dark basement and his heart sank. He tried his best not to show any signs of concern, but this proved to be challenging. Her normally light hazel eyes were almost completely black. Her hair was disheveled and her face slightly puffy from crying.
Eddie had been around plenty of people under the influence before, but never anyone he felt such deep adoration for. It was torture seeing her like this. He once again crouched down so he could meet her eye level and gave her hand a gentle reassuring squeeze. "I've just gotta find Gareth to let him know i'm leaving. I drove him here, don't want him to be stranded. I'll be right back, i promise."
Her gaze softened a bit, and with a small nod, Eddie took that as a go ahead to proceed with his plan. He lifted her hand up to his mouth to give it a quick kiss before getting up to find his friend.
Luckily, with one quick sweep of the main floor, he was able to find Gareth and get him up to speed on the situation.
"What a prick, we should fight that guy."
"Yeah, normally i would agree but i gotta get her outta here. Are you cool finding a ride home tonight?"
"Oh ya, don't sweat it! I can always just crash here if it comes down to it. Get her home safe."
"Thanks man, i'll see you later."
Gareth patted him on the shoulder and with that, Eddie made his way back to the sofa. "Alright, let's get you home, yeah? Up you go."
Taking the same precautionary steps he did while going up the stairs, they made their way out the door to Eddie's van. He helped her into the passenger's side, carefully closing the door and hurried over to the driver's side. Once in, he buckled both of their seatbelts, started the car and began driving away. Once the car was nicely heated and her shivering had subsided, he figured it would be a good time to try to find out the location he should be driving to.
"So uh, am i going the right way? Do you live close by?"
He glanced over at her, smiling sweetly once they made eye contact. She returned the smile, but the sadness displayed on the rest of her features made her true feelings apparent.
"We're far" she mumbled, "i live next to work..."
Eddie sighed internally. He didn't mind the drive, he was more concerned about her having to sit in a car for 45 minutes. "Alright, i'll get us to work and you can tell me where to go from there, yeah? You have your house keys?"
She paused to think and let out a defeated breath upon realizing; their shared house key was kept on Samuel's lanyard. She brought her hands to her face in despair and began apologizing profusely. Eddie wasn't quite sure what she was apologizing for, or to who even. He softly put a hand on her shoulder in an attempt to comfort her, gently moving his thumb over the blanket that was still draped over her.
"It's okay, look we're not that far from Tom's place. I'll turn the car around and we can get the key. I can go in, you don't even have to leave the car-"
She shook her head in quick motions, her hands dropping from her face suddenly. "No, i can't, i'm..." she trailed off, turning to face the passenger's window.
The silence was broken by small cries leaving her mouth. Eddie slowly pulled off to the side of the road and put the car in park so he could focus all of his attention on helping her as best as he could.
"Are you worried he'll be upset?" he began, trying to get to the root of the problem. His question was met with more tears falling from her eyes. Her breathing was becoming more erratic and her hands began to shake. Eddie was torn, he knew she desperately needed to get home, but at what cost? He couldn't live with himself knowing that once he dropped her off, she would be left alone to face that jerk again. He made a snap decision, once again choosing to deal with the potential consequences in the morning.
"Alright, let's go to my place for now. It's not that far from here and we can figure out what to do from there, yeah? Is that okay?"
In an unexpected turn of events, her crying stopped almost immediately following his words. "Can i please stay there tonight?" she muttered softly, eyes glued to the floor of his van.
She knew it might be asking too much, but the thought of facing her boyfriend tonight was too much to handle. Eddie's eyes widened, but he quickly composed himself before responding. "Of course, anything you need."
_
Obeying the rules of the road was out of character for Eddie, especially when it came to speeding, but tonight was different. He made sure to make the drive to his trailer as peaceful as possible for her, not wanting to worsen her distress.
Once there, he was relieved to see Wayne's truck was gone. At least she wouldn't have to worry about his uncle seeing her in this state.
He quickly hurried her inside and onto the sofa before scrambling around the trailer gathering anything he deemed might be of use. He came back into the living room with additional blankets, a glass of water and a can of soda from the fridge, setting them down on the table. He proposed switching out the blanket for a fresh one, doubting the cleanliness of the one currently wrapped around her.
"S'too cold." she slurred, grinding her teeth once again.
Eddie knew better than to try to rationalize with her so he thought of a solution that would make for the blanket swap to be more pleasant. He grabbed one of the blankets, walked over to the dryer and tossed it in. Making his way back to the living room, he picked up the can of soda to open it and slid closer to her on the table. "Here, have a sip, you must be really thirsty."
Up until he mentioned it, she hadn't noticed how dry her mouth was, or how chapped her lips felt. Now that she was in a comfortable place and felt safe, the fear and adrenaline wearing off, she was very aware of the physical discomforts she was feeling. She quickly grabbed the cup of water, opting for the least cold drink made available and downed the liquid within seconds. Eddie's eyebrows raised and he let out a small chuckle. She met his gaze with a shy smile, clearly embarrassed by the intensity of her gulps. Their exchange of grins was interrupted by a shrill ringing coming from the hallway; the dryer alerting them of it's cycle being complete. Eddie shuffled over to it, quickly returning to the living room with the warmed up blanket.
"Here, feel this." he started, placing a corner of the fluffy material in her hands "Nice and warm for ya. How about we get rid of that dingy old thing?" he said gesturing to the stain riddled comforter.
She agreed with a nod, preparing herself for the sharp cold she would feel once the blanket was no longer on her. Eddie attempted to make the switch as seamless as possible, quickly wrapping the fabric around her. Once the warm blanket was snug around her, Eddie lightly tugged on either side in a playful motion. Their faces were mere inches from one another, he wished they could stay this close forever.
"Better?" he inquired in a soothing voice.
She nodded in response. "Thank you."
He stayed crouched in front of her, his hands remaining on the blanket for longer than he probably should have. He scolded himself internally, before retreating onto the adjacent chair. She instantly missed his presence.
It was fairly late at this point, the clock reading 1:04am. Eddie knew she wouldn't be getting much sleep while the drug was still in her system, but offered to set her up in his bedroom, reassuring her that he would take the pull out bed, not wanting to cross any boundaries or make her uncomfortable. She pondered for a few moments before agreeing. They walked over to the back of the trailer, Eddie leading the way with the extra blankets in hand. He breached the entryway of his bedroom and thanked his past self for tidying up the mess that was littering his bedroom floor earlier in the day.
Once there, she took in her surroundings admiring all the art and little trinkets laying around. Eddie grew nervous from the extended period of silence and cleared his throat before saying "Is this okay?" referring to her sleeping arrangement for the night.
"S'cozy." she responded with a warm smile. She made her way towards the bed and plopped down rather sloppily, her legs still feeling like they could give away at any second. She settled into bed and he began turning off the lamps, pausing before switching off the last one.
"Want this one on?"
"Yes please" she responded quietly from under the blankets. She had the soft material pulled up to her nose and was laying on her side watching him maneuver around the room.
"You got it" he said, a dorky smile painted on his face as he turned to look at her. Despite still appearing strung out, Eddie was enamored by her. He always thought she was beautiful, her current state never wavered that. He thought she looked especially adorable all tucked into his bed, her eyes glistening with gratitude and what appeared to be admiration. She closed her eyes for a brief moment letting out a content sigh, the feeling of safety and comfort engulfing her like a warm hug.
Eddie took this as a sign he should retreat to the living room, making sure to wish her goodnight, as well as reassuring her that she could call for him at any point in time if she needed anything. Although she had been let down earlier by a similar unkept promise, she knew Eddie meant every word he said.
Once in the living room, Eddie opted to sit on the sofa for a while to ensure that if she did call out for him, he would be awake and ready to help. He turned on the television in hopes of keeping his mind busy, his thoughts currently consumed with the image of her in his bed. He despised his heart for making him feel so fondly of someone who was in a relationship, albeit an unhealthy one. Was it so wrong for him to hope that she would leave him? The rage he felt accompanied by sorrow for the way she was treated tonight was overbearing. With a grunt, he stood up from his seat and made his way to the refrigerator in hopes that there would be a cold beer stashed somewhere in there. Wayne wasn't opposed to him drinking his supply, so long as he replaced what was taken. Behind the milk carton were two cans of Pabs Blue Ribbon. He grabbed one of the cans and headed back to the sofa, making sure to open it slowly to minimize the noise from the aluminum cracking.
_
The second Eddie had left the bedroom, the feeling of anxiety she had previously felt slowly crept it's way back into her core. She shook her leg in an attempt at self-soothing, trying her best to remind herself that she was safe now. She knew that she could call for Eddie at any point and that he would be back in the room within seconds, but the feeling of embarrassment and fear of bothering him prevented her from doing so. She tossed and turned, trying to get to sleep without success. Out of frustration she sat up from the bed, the blanket still wrapped over her head in a cocoon shape. She began looking around the room once more, admiring the posters on his wall. His bedroom was exactly as she had pictured it to be. Having only seem him in their work uniform up until tonight, his haircut and ringed fingers had given her a pretty good idea of what his style would be; his bedroom reflecting that perfectly.
His bedroom was quaint and felt like home. A feeling she hadn't felt in years since being with Samuel.
Samuel.
The mere thought of him sent a cold shudder through her that shook her form. She worried about his reaction to her not being home once he arrived at their apartment. He always accused her of infidelity, likely projecting onto her his own bad behavior, and would surely lash out at her the next time he saw her. She began to spiral, images of past mistreatments and abuse at the hand of her partner crashed into her like a violent wave. Tears streamed down her cheeks uncontrollably, as they had many times before.
She had spent many nights crying into a towel in the bathroom alone so she wouldn't wake him with the sound of her whimpers, as he laid in their shared bed without a care in the world. He lacked the ability to comfort her, expressing it many times, usually by saying: "i don't know what you want from me". In those moments a simple reassuring hug would have sufficed, or any act of compassion or intimacy, but he didn't care. Not then, and certainly not now. This sudden realization was all too much for her to handle in this moment.
She desperately needed comfort. She attempted to compose herself before slowly creeping out of bed and pausing at the ajar door. Part of her knew it was wrong, but the desperate need for consoling overshadowed the morality of her decision. In a barely audible tone, she called Eddie's name and waited nervously inches from the door. Almost instantly, she heard him getting up from the sofa and walk hurriedly to the back of the trailer. The door opened quickly startling her and Eddie let out a small yelp, not expecting to see her standing so close to the door.
"Jesus," he let out with a sigh, clutching his chest. "Sorry, ah, i thought you'd be in bed." After recovering from the small arrythmia he was almost certain he suffered, he chuckled and asked, "Everything okay?"
Upon his arrival, a sense of dread and self-loathing washed over her. She feared rejection but also reprimanding from Eddie. He knew she had a boyfriend, and had been so considerate of that all night, was she really about to ask him if he could sleep in the same bed? It wasn't in a sexual way, but somehow the lather felt worse. Seeking emotional intimacy from someone other than the person she was dating? She felt despicable. The worse form of betrayal in her mind was emotional infidelity, which is exactly what had been taking place over the last few months. She couldn't be blamed though, not entirely. Her absent and neglectful partner had driven her into the arms of a more caring, emotionally intelligent man and for that, he only had himself to blame.
"S'worse when you're out there. Can you stay here? Please..." she managed to mutter.
Eddie's heart skipped a beat. He would do anything she'd ask to help her feel better. "Yeah! Yeah, of course. Let me go get the extra blankets and a pillow and i'll set up on the fl-"
"Could you sleep next to me?"
Her broken tone of voice shattered him. It had become very apparent to him that her relationship was far more damaging than it appeared to be on the surface. Every question she had asked him, whilst in her most vulnerable state, had a sad undertone expecting rejection. The mention of her partner's name alone had caused her intense distress. Without letting another second go by, he sprung into action. He gently agreed and motioned towards the bed, letting her get comfortable before climbing in himself. Not wanting to cross any boundaries or make her feel uncomfortable, Eddie held off on laying down. Instead, he sat up on the bed with his back against the wall, trying to take up as little space as possible as he nonchalantly stared ahead.
She was laying on her side facing him, when he caught a glimpse of her looking up at him. He turned to face her, trying to think of any topic of conversation to hide the fact that he was screaming inside. All the feelings he had for her that he had managed to suppress all this came crashing down on him. She was the girl of his dreams, and she was laying in his bed with him. He quickly shut down those thoughts and focused on her well-being; it was his top priority. He took in her facial features, now that the blanket was no longer covering the bottom half of her face, and noticed she was grinding her teeth still. "Try and relax your jaw." he said with care.
"M'sorry"
"Don't need to apologize," he reassured laughing lightly, "just don't want you to be sore in the morning, is all."
There was a brief moment of silence as her smile grew, then a snort escaped her as she buried her face in the blanket. The innuendo now becoming apparent to Eddie who, also broke out into laughter.
"Oh god, i didn't mean it like that!" was all he managed to say, bringing his palm up to his face. His embarrassment was short-lived, her laughter filling the room was music to his ears.
"I know, s'just funny" she said between giggles.
The room went quiet again, the sound of their breathing being the only audible noise. The effects of the drug were slowly wearing off, evidence of that came from her suddenly yawning.
"Wanna try and get some rest?" he offered.
"That sounds good" she responded.
"Okay, lights on or off?"
"Off please."
"Okay," he said, making his way towards the lamp to shut it off. He excused himself to go turn off the rest of the lights, as well as the TV still playing and made his was back to the room shortly after. He carefully climbed into the bed, this time laying down but still taking up as little room as possible.
Eddie was the kind of sleeper that liked to take up as much of the bed as humanly possible, so he know he wouldn't be getting the best of sleep tonight but he didn't care. Knowing that she was safe meant more to him than a good night's rest. They wished one another goodnight and attempted to drift asleep.
A few minutes of stillness passed, she turned to face him, craving closeness and warmth. Tonight's series of events had proven that Eddie was a gentleman and certainly wasn't the type to take advantage of her or intentionally cross any boundaries. She inched slightly closer to him and whispered: "Can you hold me?"
He hummed in response extending his arms for her to settle in. She nestled into his chest, their bodies fitting perfectly with one another like a puzzle. The feeling of contempt and security she felt while in Eddie's arms was unmatched. It was as if nothing could hurt her as long as he was around. He felt her grip on his shirt tighten slightly, her body pushing onto his in an attempt to get closer. "You okay?" he asked.
"Yeah, feels good. Safe." she replied sleepily. Eddie understood in that moment how touch starved she was. She craved intimacy in it's purest form. He readjusted his arm so he could lightly rub his fingertips on her back soothingly. She was beginning to drift asleep, but was still clenching her jaw, an action Eddie was quick to notice. With his free hand, he lightly cupped the side of her face and rubbed gentle circles on her cheek and jaw in an attempt to sooth her likely sore muscles.
"Try to relax your jaw sweetheart, unclench your teeth." he gently reminded her.
His caring instructions were met with a low hum followed by a barely audible "thank you", the tension in her face releasing almost instantaneously.
Eddie bent down slightly to give the top of her head a kiss while softly uttering: "Goodnight sweetheart.", her only response an even sleepier hum than before. In a matter of seconds, they both drifted to sleep comfortably in each others presence.

Dawn broke in the Munson's cozy home when the sound of the trailer door shutting stirred Eddie out of his sleep; his uncle had returned from work.
It took Eddie a few seconds to gather why he was laying on his back, seeing as he was normally a stomach sleeper. His body also seemed to be overheating, which was also cause for confusion. Post inspections of his surroundings quickly cleared up his confusion as he noticed the weight of her head on his chest, along with the heavy blanket draped on top of them. The trailer usually didn't offer much insulation from the cold outdoors, so this newfound warmth from her presence felt nice. The feeling was foreign, but nice nonetheless.
He lightly hummed in content and began shutting his eyes again before quickly snapping them wide open.
The events of the night prior came flooding back, dragging him out of the moment. A mournful feeling washed over him as he thought back on the state of fear and discomfort she was in. He still couldn't believe how little compassion or care was shown from her boyfriend. Was he even one bit worried about her unknown whereabouts? Her safety? For all he knew, his girlfriend could be in serious danger or worse... Sadly, Samuel didn't seem to care. He had shown his true colors that night, and they weren't pretty.
Despite this, Eddie couldn't help this gnawing feeling of guilt starting to build in the pit of his stomach. Samuel didn't deserve an ounce of sympathy, but Eddie was a good person, and he felt pretty scummy laying in bed with his girlfriend, no matter how pure his intentions were. He also worried about her reaction once she woke up, would she have any recollection of the events that had transpired? The last thing he wanted was for her to think he had taken advantage of her while in such a vulnerable state.
Not wanting to risk making her feel uncomfortable, he attempted to get out of bed by gently sliding from under her. After successfully freeing one of his arms, his efforts were overshadowed by her readjusting even closer to him, letting out a tranquil sigh once she was settled. Eddie froze, his prior discomfort regarding the situation had now worsened now that her body was tangled tightly around his. He briefly thought of waking her, but upon glancing at the clock on his bedside table, he figured he would let her sleep in some more. Besides, it was only 6 am.
_
Eddie stared at the ceiling for what felt like an eternity following his failed attempts at falling asleep. He laid in bed listening to the tv quietly playing from the living room and tried following along with whatever show Wayne had put on. He quickly gave up after a while, the volume being too low for him to understand anything. He gently leaned over to get a glimpse at the clock now reading 8:35 am. She was still fast asleep, not showing any sign of waking up soon. He figured he may as well relax a little and untense, accepting that he'd be there a while. He began lightly stroking her hair as his arm was once again trapped under her head. He thanked his lucky stars neither of them had been scheduled to work that weekend.
-
10:51 am
She began to gently stir awake, her eyes remaining closed. She fought to stay asleep for as long as she could, not wanting that feeling of serenity to fade. She leaned into the man embracing her, momentarily forgetting she had spent the night at Eddie's. She took in the feeling of him, appreciating his presence with all of her senses. His warm body holding her while his hand lightly caressed her head. His shallow sleepy breathing causing her head to gently rise as his chest did. His sweet yet musky scent filling the air. It was unbelievably comforting, the feeling overwhelming in the best way possible.
The moment was perfect, and she never wanted it to end.
She shifted slightly in an attempt to get closer to him, despite already having most of her body resting on his form. Her movements yielded the results she was hoping for as Eddie pulled her closer as his grip tightened lovingly. He sighed sleepily and hummed in content, the small reaction made her stomach flip. No longer able to fight her state of consciousness, she slowly opened her eyes scanning the room around her while being careful not to disturb Eddie with any harsh movements.
The reality of last night's events started to dawn on her, and she was quickly met with the feeling of her aching body. She was now painfully aware of the searing headache, along with her desperate need for water. This was far worse than any hangover she had felt before, granted, she had never done hard drugs before.
She felt like she was rotting from the inside; body, mind and spirit... She felt drained in every sense of the word, but especially mentally. The come down from whatever she had taken wasn't done messing with her yet, taking a toll on her well being well into the next day. There was an overwhelming sense of dread looming over her, one she couldn't seem to shake.
She knew there would be hell to face once she returned to her apartment, no matter how hard she'd try to keep the peace. She unintentionally tightened her grip on Eddie's shirt, her body becoming rigid. Unbeknownst to her, Eddie wasn't asleep but rather resting his eyes and was quick to notice her change in demeanor. Worried he was overstepping or making her uncomfortable, he loosened his hold and inched away slightly, tilting his head downwards to face her.
"Hey, you okay?" he asked, his tone low and husky.
His sudden words startled her slightly, her head snapping up to meet his gaze. She paused for a moment, admiring his face while taking in his beauty. It was almost unfair that he looked this lovely in the morning. His hair fell perfectly, only a few strands out of place. There was a shimmer in his eyes that she had never noticed before. He still had a few pillow markings on his face, most likely caused from sleeping on his face at some point in the night. She couldn't help but smile at the sight of him, his worried gaze softened into a warm smile of his own as he waited for her response.
"Hi" she whispered, unintentionally ignoring his previous inquiry.
"Hi" he responded while chuckling lightly.
They stared at one another for a few minutes, unsure of how to break the silence. Their faces were inches away from each other, her body still tangled with his. The air was thick with unspoken feelings becoming harder to ignore. They were both painfully aware of their longing for one another, trying to gage what their next move should be. Her morals were becoming greyer by the second, her feelings for Eddie taking precedent. Eddie on the other hand was hoping she would make the first move while cursing himself for thinking this way. For a brief moment, she came close to giving in, feeling her face begin to move closer to his. She reluctantly halted her movements, knowing in her heart that it was the right thing to do.
Eddie's heart just about stopped in that moment. He was so hopeful and it broke him to see her change of heart in real time. He wanted nothing more than to be with her, to cherish her for all she was worth. But it wasn't his place, and he certainly wouldn't be the one to bring up romantic feelings.
She began to withdraw from his hold, sitting up on the bed to face him. The feeling of loneliness found it's way back to her heart the moment she left his embrace. Eddie noticed her shift in behavior and began to worry he had in fact overstepped. He couldn't help but think that their friendship would forever be changed. He was plagued with a million questions, none of which he truly wanted the answers to. The biggest one being, what now? Does life resume as it once was with no mention of that evening? Would there always be these unresolved feelings that wouldn't be acknowledged? Eddie knew he would forever see her in a different light, unable to bare the mere mention of her boyfriend. It was all too much. All he could do was smile apologetically at her as they sat in silence. After a few seconds, the quietness in the room was growing uncomfortable and she felt obliged to speak. "I'm sorry about all that" she began.
"'Bout what?" he replied genuinely.
"Everything"
Her body was slightly slumped over now, eyes glued to her fingers she was picking at nervously. She wasn't sure how to elaborate on her apology. She was overcome by a massive wave of guilt, feeling as though she was letting everyone down. She knew Eddie had feelings for her, now more than ever, and it tore her up. Putting him through all this crap, subjecting him to Samuel's antics. She felt horrible, Eddie deserved nothing but the best and she was giving him the opposite.
Eddie didn't respond right away, unsure what to say. He instinctively reached out his hand to place it softly on top of hers in a comforting gesture. "You have nothing to be sorry for."
She sighed heavily, shutting her eyes tightly in an effort to suppress her tears forming involuntarily. "I shouldn't have stayed here..." she let out weakly.
Eddie's heart sank once again. "Look, I... I didn't mean to make things weird between us. I'm sorry if I did. I can drive you home now if you want?" he offered, trying his best not to sound crushed.
"Could you?" she asked, still unable to make eye contact.
"Of course, let me uh, let me get changed quick."
She nodded and began getting out of the bed, heading towards the bedroom door. Eddie was quick to stop her, not wanting to risk the possibility of Wayne being woken up. He offered for her to wait in his room as he excused himself to the bathroom after grabbing a fresh set of clothes. She nodded, plopping back down onto his bed.
As she waited in his bedroom alone, the dam broke. Tears began to spill from her eyes uncontrollably, her attempts at composure unsuccessful. Eddie returned to the bedroom quicker than anticipated, catching her off guard. Upon noticing her distress, he quickly crouched down in front of her just as he had the night before to try and mend whatever was causing her to be this upset.
She met his concerned eyes and noticed the amount of sincerity and love behind them. For whatever reason, this made her incredibly emotional. She had reached a breaking point and was now sobbing violently. It was the type of cry that makes a person fold over, wrapping their arms around themselves in an attempt at self-soothing.
"Oh.." he voiced in a broken tone. Eddie quickly wrapped his arms around her. He swiftly pulled her onto his lap, his previous posture being slightly awkward and hard on his knees. He began slowly rubbing her back in attempts to sooth her as she buried her face in his chest.
He hated seeing her this upset, no matter the reason. He never wanted to see it again, for the simple fact that it absolutely broke him. She was trembling in his arms from the force of her sobs, nearly hyperventilating. He whispered sweet nothings in an attempt to comfort her. A combination of 'you're safe', 'I've got you', 'it's gonna be okay', 'breathe', etc.
They remained in this position for well over 20 minutes, as she desperately tried to catch her breath. Once her sobbing had subsided, she slowly lifted her head off of him. She stared into the distance, too embarrassed to look him in the eyes. Eddie brought his hand up to her face and slowly guided her to look at him.
"Hey..." he said softly, smiling meekly. With his hand still cupping her face, he started gently stroking his thumb on her damp cheek, trying to wipe away some of her tears. She took a few shaky breaths while attempting to return the smile. This panic attack had absolutely drained her and she was exhausted. Her body melted under his touch as she rested her head against his chest once more, wrapping her arms around him. He pulled her closer, placing one hand onto the back of her head, the other hand rubbing her back still.
"I'm sorry..." she muttered into his chest.
"Do you want me to take you home?" he asked once more.
She sighed at the thought, lifting her head off of his chest. "I don't know."
"Okay, why don't I get you some tissues?" he offered, trying to lighten the mood.
"Yeah, that's a good start." she said, laughing lightly as she noticed Eddie's tear stained shirt.
"Alright. Be right back." he replied gently patting her back, signaling that she needed to get up in order for him to complete the task at hand. She got the message and moved off of him, sluggishly getting back into his bed. She wrapped the blankets around her head as she had the night before, seeking any form of comfort during Eddie's absence. He returned to the room quickly with the box of tissues, extending his arm out to hand them to her. She grabbed the box and began to blot at her face. Eddie remained standing while she freshened up, slowly pacing around his room, pretending to look at anything else. Once he thought he had heard the last blow of her nose, he turned towards her. "May I?" he asked while gesturing to the bed.
She nodded, silently giving him permission to climb in next to her. He sat up against the wall, wanting to give her space, while she sat opposite of him. "Could I stay here a little longer?" she asked quietly, her eyes once again fixed on her nails.
He smiled at her request. "You can stay as long as you like." he answered.
A shy grin formed on her face and she slowly crept closer to him, once again resting her head on his chest as she laid beside him. The room grew quiet, leaving Eddie with his thoughts. He understood that now, more than ever, comfort was what she needed most. He gently stroked her hair until she eventually fell asleep, undoubtedly exhausted from her intense emotions over the last 24 hours.
-
1:22 pm
Unaware that she had drifted off, she woke up once again curled up in Eddie's hold. She groggily lifted her head looking up at him only to be met with a warm smile.
"Afternoon." he greeted in a low voice, grinning as he admired her sleepy face. She hummed in response while rubbing her eyes. She contorted her body to get a view of the clock, noting the time. A sinking feeling rushed over her; she knew she had to get back to her appartement sooner than later. Her head fell back gently onto Eddie's chest, groaning in frustration. Eddie couldn't help but snicker at her grumpiness, she seemed to be feeling more like herself. Upon hearing him laugh, she raised her head off of his chest, leaning on her left shoulder for support as she looked up at him. He offered a warm smile, his eyes gleamed inquisitively as he waited for her to speak.
She found herself at a loss for words, once again enamored by the man mere inches from her. Her eyes kept darting from Eddie's eyes to his lips and it didn't go unnoticed. Eddie seemed visibly nervous now, his cheeks slowly turning into a light shade of pink as he waited in anticipation. She felt herself moving closer to him as if her body had a mind of it's own.
Impulsivity took over and before she could talk herself out of it, she closed the gap between them, softly kissing his lips. She withdrew almost instantly, realizing what she had just done. She moved away ever so slightly to analyze Eddie's face, desperately hoping that this wasn't a mistake. He stared at her, expressionless, unable to process what had just happened. He felt as though he had imagined the whole thing. He had to remind himself to breathe as he inhaled a big gulp of air while blinking rapidly.
She began to stutter while moving her body further from his on the opposite side of the bed. She stuttered, trying to formulate a sentence as she scolded herself for her reckless actions.
"I.. I'm so sorry Eddie... I shouldn't have done that. That was stu-"
Her words were interrupted by Eddie carefully leaning forward and placing a hand on the side of her face. He paused, gazing into her eyes lovingly then brought his other hand next to her on the bed to provide support as he leaned in. The moment she felt his lips on hers again, she felt immense relief. He kissed her with intent, but it wasn't aggressive. It was... loving.. longing. She felt like he had been waiting years to kiss her and that no person or other-worldly force could separate them in this moment.
As he gently broke away, they exchanged flustered gazes and chuckled excitedly. It had been a very long 24 hours, and this sweet moment was exactly what they needed. Eddie leaned back in to kiss her once more, this time with more passion and certainty. The force with which he kissed her made her arms give out, her body falling backwards onto the mattress. This didn't stop them but rather added fuel to the raging fire. The intensity of the kiss made for a few awkward mishaps of teeth clattering and unsynchronized movements, but they eventually found the perfect rhythm.
Her tongue danced it's way into his mouth, in a desperate search for his. This sudden action cause Eddie to gasp lightly as he obliged and reciprocated the movement with his own.
Eddie adjusted his body ever so slightly causing her to part her legs, inviting him to rest comfortably between them as they continued to kiss. The room was getting warmer, their actions growing more desperate. All these months of pent up longing was finally being released as they explored one another. Her hand had found it's way to his messy head of hair whilst his found her waist.
It had been a very long time since she had felt this level of intimacy or crave for someone and it was taking over her. Consuming her mind and clouding her better judgement. Their bodies began to shift simultaneously, both desperately seeking some sort of friction to relieve the building ache they were feeling for one another. She wrapped her legs around his hips, resulting in his body pressing up against hers.
She could feel Eddie's hot breath as he moved to kiss her neck, his hips stuttered as they lined up perfectly with her core. Even through the fabric of both of their pants, the feeling sent shivers down her spine. He was big, she could tell. A stifled moan escaped her lips but Eddie was quick to shush her with a kiss, suddenly remembering that his uncle was only a few feet away from them in the living room. He continued his movements, grinding against her core as she matched his pace. Her cheeks were flushed from the intensity of the moment, it was as if the whole room was spinning. She broke away from the kiss suddenly, breathing out Eddie's name as she did so. He froze for a moment, once again fearing he had crossed a line.
“I just…I don't want you to think that…that this is just….” she trailed off, sighing deeply in frustration. Of all the times she could be tongue tied, now was not the time! She closed her eyes for a few seconds, trying to find the right words, then opened them in search of Eddie's sweet doe eyes, desperately wanting to convey sincerity. “I’ve had feelings for you for a long time, I just couldn’t…”
Eddie picked up on her intended words right away, smiling down at her as he nodded quickly. He felt relief along with a slight sense of validation. It was nice to know that he wasn't imagining this chemistry between them. And hearing that she felt the same as he did? Well, that just sent him over the moon. He began planting gentle kisses on her cheek before looking at her face once more. “I know, baby. I know... Me too.”
She returned the same excited smile he adorned and leaned up to kiss him once more. Her quick movement upwards coupled with Eddie's downward motion led to their teeth clanking together awkwardly. They both froze and began laughing at the silly moment. Her head fell back down onto the bed, and she brought her hand up to his face, gently rubbing her thumb along his cheek. Eddie closed his eyes and hummed, this sweet gesture of intimacy had him reeling.
"If this is gonna happen, i think we should..." she trailed off and paused before correcting her choice of words. "I want to do this right."
She always knew Eddie was a respectful man, a gentleman, but it never failed to make her heart skip a beat when he would display this type of character. At her words, he instantly withdrew from her hold, sitting upright in front of her as he ran his fingers through his hair and adjusted his now, very, tight pants. He cleared his throat before speaking. "Yeah, of course, whatever you need." he assured lovingly, still flustered.

After quietly exiting the Munson residence and completing the half hour drive, they arrived at her apartment complex. She knew she couldn't stay with Samuel, nor did she want to, but she worried about returning home, even for the brief moment that it would take her to pack her essential belongings and end the relationship. She feared the worst reaction from him, but unfortunately, confrontation was inevitable. She wasn't sure how to go about doing it, she just knew that it had to be done.
She nervously opened the car door and smiled weakly at Eddie. He offered to come upstairs with her, but she knew that would only make things worse. He reluctantly obliged and waited in the car as she made her way to the entrance of the building, but not before giving him the appartement number just in case. She soon disappeared behind the closing doors of the elevator, hoping for the best.
As she reached her front door, she couldn't help but notice the blaring music coming from their unit. She reached for the doorknob, assuming she wouldn't be needing her key to unlock it and slowly pushed the door open. As expected, Samuel was home laying on their sofa with a nearly empty bottle of gin in hand. He didn't seem to notice her come in initially, so she took this opportunity to hurry off to their bedroom.
Fearing the worst, she felt it was best she end things with him in the morning when he wasn't intoxicated. She was hoping he had passed out on the sofa as he often did, and began to pack a bag as quietly and quickly as she could. Her hopes were quickly met with disappointment when she heard the bedroom door swing open and Samuel stumbling in.
"Nice of you to show up." he slurred, anger coating his tone. She didn't respond right away, which further aggravated him. "Where the fuck have you been?" he persisted.
"At a friend's." she lied, feeling it was best to bend the truth for her own safety.
"That's not what i'm asking." he spat, clearly referring to the unaccounted two days.
"Can we not do this right now? Let's talk in the morning when you've sobered up." she pleaded, knowing reasoning with him in this state was next to impossible.
"I'm fine, you know what isn't though?" he began, starting towards her aggressively. "Whoring yourself around and then showing up 2 days later acting like nothing happened."
His eyes with red with anger. He took another swig of the bottle before letting out a sinister laugh as he spoke. "Going home with some guy you met at the party? After everything I've done for you!"
He was mere inches from her face now, his hold on the liquor bottle tightening as he became angrier.
"You left me, Samuel!" she fired back, no longer able to suppress her emotions. "I wasn't okay, and you just left me! You didn't care. How long did it even take for you to realize I was gone?" Tears began to form in her eyes but she blinked them away, refusing to succumb to the hurt he had caused her.
"Oh my.. Don't fucking cry and try to turn this on me. You always do this." he yelled as he retreated to the living room, slamming the bedroom door behind him.
Her legs weakened and she sat back down on the bed feeling completely defeated. Her mind quickly went to Eddie, who was anxiously waiting for her downstairs, giving her some much needed strength to power through. She continued packing, grabbing her favorite articles of clothing and a few items in the bathroom before making her way to the living room to grab whatever valuables she had. Samuel was quick to notice, immediately stumbling up from the couch to confront her. "What the hell are you doing." he asked menacingly.
"Leaving you." she responded matter-of-factly as she kept packing.
Another dry evil laugh left his lips as he followed close behind, moving through their shared space. "That's funny." he said dryly.
"I'll be back tomorrow to pick up the rest of my stuff." she paused, turning to face him. "I'm done, Sam. I can't do this anymore."
Her words did nothing but anger him further. He stepped closer to her, grabbing her arm tightly. His nails digging into her flesh. She winced at the contact, thrashing her arm in an attempt to free herself from his grasp.
"You can threaten to leave me all you want but you know damn well you're not gonna find anyone that's willing to put up with your shit like I do. I give it a day, you'll come back." he growled lowly, roughly releasing her arm before taking a big swig from the bottle he was still holding.
"Keep telling yourself that." she muttered coldly under her breath as she retreated to the bedroom. She took a moment to catch her breath and examine her arm. Blue markings were already starting to form from his rough hand. Her eyes widened, Samuel had never laid a hand on her before so his sudden aggressive behavior was the final push, screaming at her to get out now. She hurried towards the front door and shrieked once she opened it when she bumped into someone's chest; Eddie.
Relief instantly washed over her and she flung her arms around his torso, embracing him into a tight hug. "I told you to wait in the car." she quietly whispered whilst holding onto him.
"I got worried, you were taking so long." he responded, kissing the top of her head.
Samuel overheard the commotion and began observing from the living room. The sight of his now ex-girlfriend embracing another man lit a fire under him. He made his way towards them, flinging the botte of gin mere inches from her head. It made contact with the wall and shattered, glass flying everywhere. A small shard ricocheted off of her face, drawing blood. Shock and adrenaline prevented her from feeling the cut, she was frozen in place as her eyes locked with Samuel's who was marching over to her. Eddie was quick to step in front of her, anger now prevalent on his face.
"Is this the guy you've been screwing?" he yelled without slowing his pace. He seemed unphased by Eddie's presence, trying to bypass him to get to her. Once face to face, Samuel tried to shove his way passed Eddie unsuccessfully given his smaller form. He tried shoving his way through again, growing more agitated at his failure to do so. In a final attempt, he used both of his hands to push Eddie in the chest, yelling out insults and trying to instigate a fight. Eddie pushed him back, causing him to stumble a few feet away.
"Cool it, alright. Before I beat the shit out of you." Eddie said sternly before leaning down to grab the duffle bag she had dropped while hugging him.
This gave Samuel a clear view of her, a frightened expression displayed on her face. She couldn't think of anything to say, fearing it would trigger a negative reaction from him. He starred at her with an icy expression, before retreating to the kitchen.
"Come on, let's go..." Eddie spoke softly, gently placing a hand on the small of her back guiding her out of the appartement. They stopped in their tracks as they heard more glass breaking from the kitchen. Against her better judgement, she slowly inched back into the entrance, Eddie following closely behind her.
Once in view of the kitchen, she could see the source of the racket. Samuel had picked up a baseball bat they kept by their balcony door and was smashing hanged pictures on the wall. Glass littered the floor along with broken picture frames.
"You did this!" he yelled. "You ruined us. You stupid bitch!"
He flung a slew of insults at her while smacking the bat against any fragile surface he came into contact with.
"Sam, please stop." she cried, her eyes filling with tears once more.
He ignored her request and continued on with his rampage, making his way towards the living room. He began hitting their shared stereo, the music that was still blaring began to distort until it ultimately stopped completely. She was frozen in place, horrified by his outburst. Eddie gently placed a hand on her shoulder, quietly suggesting they leave before things got any uglier. She obliged, a sob involuntarily escaping her lips.
They were halfway out the door, Eddie leading the way, when he heard the distinct sound of the bat smacking against the wall. Too close for comfort. He spun around as he heard her yelp out in pain and was met with rage. Samuel had made his way to them once more. This time, grabbing her by the hair and dragging her backwards while uttering threats as he forced her head inches from his face.
Now, Eddie wasn't a violent person. Contrary to popular belief, he had only ever gotten in a couple of fights, none of which he ever instigated. That being said, he was very protective of the people he loved, and god help anyone who dared threaten their safety or well being. In this moment, Eddie saw red. The pent up anger that had been building following the night of the party where he saw first hand the mistreatment she was facing, most likely on a day to day basis was all he could think about. The flood gates opened and without a moment of hesitation, he sprung into action. He hurried back into the apartment, carefully maneuvering past her and grabbing onto Samuel's shirt as he began hitting him with his free hand. Samuel's grip on her hair instantly released as he fell to the ground. Eddie dropped to his knees, his punches never slowing as he continued to hit him. Bringing a hand up to soothe the sore spot left from Samuel's harsh grasp, she watched on in shock.
"I warned you, you piece of shit!" he kept yelling in between punches. Samuel attempted to fight back at first, but it was no use. Eddie had overpowered him early on, and the sheer force behind each hit lead to a total knock out. It was the she felt she needed to step in.
"Eddie... stop..." she muttered quietly, still stunned by the scene unfolding before her.
He didn't stop though. He was in a anger-fueled trance that prevented him from hearing her words. He finally snapped out of it and spun around quickly after feeling a gentle hand on his shoulder. His fist was still clenched as he came back down to earth, a mixture of both his and Samuel's blood splayed over his knuckles. Once he registered who he was looking at, he lowered his fist. His pupils were blown out and he was out of breath. He turned to look at the damage he had caused and instantly felt remorse. Two punches would have been plenty, this was overkill.
From the looks of it, he had broken Samuel's nose and given him black eyes. His face was already starting to swell and he was out cold.
"Oh my god... I..." he stuttered, falling back on the heals of his feet. He was starring at the ground, shock painted on his face. She kneeled down next to Eddie and placed a hand onto his functional one in a gentle, comforting gesture.
"It's okay, he'll be fine. This isn't the first time he's gotten the shit kicked out of him." she reassured.
"But I..."
"You're okay, it's okay." she interrupted, speaking quietly, reassuringly. Her other hand met his cheek as she gently lifted his face to meet hers. His eyes, now glossy, met her gaze.
"Are you okay?" he asked softly, noticing the cut on her cheek. He slowly brought his hand up to her face, being careful not to touch the open wound.
"Yeah... Yeah, im okay." she reassured him in a quiet, loving voice. "Can we please go?"
"Yeah um, what about...?" he trailed off motioning towards her ex boyfriends stilled body behind him.
She gently shook her head no as she stood, extending her arms in an offer to help Eddie up. He understood immediately. She had ran out of sympathy or care for Samuel, he was no longer her problem to fix.
-
Back at the trailer, they stumbled through the front door sluggishly, the adrenaline now fully worn off. They came face to face with Eddie's uncle who quicky sat up from the couch after seeing their disheveled states.
"Jesus..." he gasped under his breath while staring at Eddie. "Boy, you look like hell. What happened?" he asked, a confused but concerned look growing on his face. His eyes met hers and he instantly rose from the reclining sofa. "Let me get the first aid kit."
Eddie nodded in agreement, making his way to the sofa as she followed close behind him. Wayne returned with the small box of supplies, handing it to her.
"There you are, darlin'."
"Thank you Mr. Munson" she replied sweetly.
She began to work on patching up Eddie's hand, gently dabbing at his sore knuckles, attempting to remove the blood that had coagulated. Every wince of pain that came from her gentle touches was followed by soft apologies as she tried her best to remove most of the gunk from his hand. His skin was raw, and she quickly realized that most of the blood on his hand was actually his. His hand had swollen twice it's normal size, and she suspected he had broken a knuckle or two. If not, they were definitely bruised to the highest degree. She applied bandages once the cleaning process was complete and quietly excused herself to the bathroom.
The men stepped outside for a much needed cigarette and Eddie filled Wayne in on their hectic afternoon. He admitted to feeling guilty and despising how violent he had gotten, especially in front of her. He worried that his behavior may have altered the way she thought of him or that she might be afraid of him now.
"Boy, you and me both know that ain't never gon' happen. What you did back there was justified."
"You didn't see his face..." he responded while staring at his feet.
"Don't need to. Been in enough fights myself, kid. I reckon you beat him pretty good." he said while motioning to Eddie's mangled knuckles.
"Hell, I would have. Lost his damn mind thinkin' he can hit a lady..." he trailed off, shaking his head while bringing the cigarette to his mouth. "Look, you feelin' bad about it just proves that you're a good person. I wouldn't have, what does that say about me?"
A smile crept on Eddie's face at his uncle's words. He thought the world of him and could say with absolute certainty that he was a good character, despite his admission. "Thanks uncle."
"'Course. Now go check on your lil' lady, make sure she's alright." he ordered with care.
"She's not my lil' lady." Eddie smiled bashfully.
"Well you better go on and change that!" Wayne retorted sassily.
Eddie chuckled, brought his hand up to his uncle's shoulder to give it a pat and headed inside the trailer. He made his way towards the bathroom where the door was ajar. He lightly knocked, opening it after hearing her quietly grant him permission to enter. She was sitting on the edge of the bath tub when she looked up at him and smiled. He walked towards her, closing the toilet seat lid to sit on it.
"How you holdin' up?" he asked. She wasn't crying and appeared to be calm, which surprised him.
"Is it awful to say, good?" she spoke carefully, contorting her face slightly. "I don't know, it's like this massive weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. All this time i never realize how much he was weighing me down..." she trailed off, staring at her hands.
"No, i get it. Makes perfect sense." he spoke softly, matching her tone. His eyes never left her face, admiring her every feature including the newly added band-aid on her cheek. "How's your face?"
"S'fine, surface level cut."
"Good." he replied with care while staring adoringly into her eyes.
Their moment was interrupted by Wayne poking his head into the bathroom. "Sorry to interrupt, i'm fixin' to start on dinner soon, will you be joining us?"
She looked up at Eddie, seeking approval, not wanting to impose. He met her gaze with a warm inviting smile which she returned before turning to face his uncle. "If you don't mind..." she replied gratefully.
Wayne nodded before making his way to the kitchen to begin dinner preparations. They were once again left in each other's company and Eddie suggested they exit the bathroom to find a more spacious area to hangout in. She agreed, letting Eddie lead them to his bedroom, shutting the door behind them to give his uncle space in the kitchen. Wayne was a simple man who seldom said much, he especially enjoyed peace and quiet while he was cooking.
Once in the room, she settled on his bed as she had grown comfortable doing so while Eddie pulled out the chair by his desk to sit on. Despite everything they had been through in such a short period of time, he still worried about overstepping and wanted to ensure to respect her boundaries and give her space when really, he was burning with love and desire.
Unbeknownst to him, space was the last thing on her mind. Ever since Eddie had held her in his arms and demonstrated such gentle love and care, she had been craving it. Craving something she never knew she so desperately needed. His touch was something she had never felt before, it was electric. Without ever saying it, Eddie had showed her just how much he cared and had restored her faith in love. It wasn't until she felt his touch that she had realized just how awful her relationship with Samuel was, and how desperately she craved to be loved.
She gazed up at him, an involuntary smile creeping on her face when she noticed he had been observing her from across the room. She didn't want to waste any more time dwelling on the the past and decided to act upon her feelings.
"You comfy over there?" she asked playfully.
"You know, it's actually much more comfortable than it appears" he replied, using his legs as propellors, gently spinning the chair.
"You know what else is comfortable?"
"What's that?"
"Your bed." she quipped with a cheeky smile while patting the empty space next to her.
Eddie was quick to get up, making his way to the bed. He playfully stretched both of his arms the way an athlete would while warming up before a work out and dived into the bed next to her. The sheer force of his body hitting the mattress jolted her up slightly and she yelped. Eddie turned onto his side to face her, admiring her smile as she came down from the high of laughing. She was laying on her back, turning her face to look at him. "Hi." she said quietly.
"Hi" he repeated, a big dorky smile plastered on his face.
She shifted to her side, her body now facing his and pulled the covers up to her nose.
"Oh, gettin' shy on me now, are ya?" he teased.
"M'not!" she playfully snapped back, the blanket muffling her voice.
"So what's this about then? You get cold all of a sudden?"
"I like your bed, it's cozy." she replied closing her eyes and letting out a sigh.
Her words brought him back to the night she first stayed over. He couldn't stop thinking about how his presence alone helped to comfort her in her state of distress. The idea that someone he loved could potentially feel the same way was almost overwhelming. His stomach was constantly fluttering when she was around; he was lovestruck.
"What's your uncle cooking up for dinner?" she asked, interrupting his train of thought.
"Your guess is as good as mine, we never have guests so he's probably gonna try to show off his skills."
His response elicited a laugh. "Well whatever it is, I'm sure it'll be good." she paused, wanting to craft her next reply carefully. "Thank you for letting me stay here while I sort all this out."
"Of course..."
They exchanged loving eyes for a few moments before she inched her body closer to his in an attempt at cuddling. Eddie repositioned himself so he could pull her into a tight but comfortable hug. They laid together in comfortable silence until Wayne was overheard calling for them to come get some food.
They made their way to the kitchen, the smell of chicken parm prominent in the air made them realize just how hungry they were. She was pleased to see the delicious food waiting for her, not used to this kind of service at home.
"This looks amazing!" she exclaimed, quickly grabbing a plate.
Wayne politely shrugged off her compliment, muttering something about it being nothing special. Eddie refused to let his modesty cast a shadow on the quality of the meal, and reinforced her praise. This evoked a timid smile from his uncle, as he insisted they stop with the pleasantries and have a seat before the food got cold. Given that the dinner table only seated two, they made their way to the sofa to enjoy their meal allowing Wayne to sat at the table, facing the pair.
-
They sat in the living room for a solid half hour once they finished eating, continuously praising Wayne for the quality of their meal. She eventually got up with her and Eddie's plates and made her way towards the sink. She returned to retrieve Wayne's dish before being abruptly stopped.
"What do you think you're doin'?" Wayne protested, pulling his plate towards him and furrowing his brows.
"Oh, uh I was gonna do the dishes." she replied unsurely.
He hummed shaking his head in response. "You're a guest in our home, I certainly won't be havin' you doin' chores. Eddie can take care of those."
She turned to face the now less than pleased looking metal head grimacing over the sudden task he had been assigned. She stifled a laugh by pressing her lips together before looking at Wayne once more.
"It's the least I can do! Really, I'm happy to do it." she persisted sweetly. "Besides, don't you have to work tonight?'
Wayne reluctantly handed her the plate, thanking her while doing so. He gave Eddie an impressed look once she turned her back. His nephew had only ever brought home a couple of girls, but she was by far the most well-mannered one to date. He assumed Eddie had told her he worked nights at the plant, but having her take note of it and be so considerate of his schedule was much appreciated. He motioned with his head for Eddie to go help her tidy the kitchen, excusing himself to the bathroom to freshen up for work.
-
By the time the dishes were washed, Wayne was heading off to work while wishing them a good night. Eddie suggested they watch a movie which ended up being more difficult then either of them had anticipated. For the first time since they had known each other, they were met with a conflict; picking a movie. Eddie was a big fan of the horror and thriller genre, watching almost exclusively those types of films whereas she didn't care for that type at all. She enjoyed romcoms or westerns, two genres that happened to be Eddie's least favorite. Such a small clash in taste lead to a playful yet heated debate yielding little results.
"I'm telling you, if you just give this movie a chance i bet you'll enjoy it!" she stated with certainty.
"No way, I've seen my fair share of lame westerns no thanks to Wayne and they're all the same!! Old men in the desert shooting guns and riding around on horses. It's garbage!"
"It's classic." she corrected him. "And I could say the same about those scary movies you like so much. Why does being scared while watching a movie sound appealing to you, anyway?"
"It's exciting!! Keeps you on your toes!" he exclaimed.
"You know what else is exciting? Action movies, which, if i'm not mistaken, The Shadow Riders falls into that category..." she trailed off, her tone raising in a sing-songy way.
"No westerns." he insisted, punctuating each syllable.
"Fine." she sighed, snatching the remote from his hold. "What about The Breakfast Club? Have you ever seen it?"
"Nope, don't want to either." he replied stubbornly.
"Eddieeee...." she whined, collapsing dramatically on the couch. Her actions elicited a laugh from him as he snatched the remote back.
"Alright, alright. Let's see..." he trailed off as he scrolled through the catalogue. "Child's Play?"
"What's that about?" she mumbled, her face still buried in the sofa cushion.
"A murderous doll on a rampage." he stated matter-of-factly.
"Sure."
"Wait, really?" he exclaimed excitedly.
She lifted her head off the sofa before saying: "No." with a playful grin.
Eddie, now mimicking her prior dramatics went limp, sliding his body off of the couch and onto the floor letting out a pained grown. She laughed, joining him on the ground.
"This is brutal." he said while chuckling.
"Tell me about it. Got any games we could play instead?" she offered, admitting defeat in their attempts at compromising on a film to watch.
"We've got cards somewhere, let me have a look."
After a few minutes of searching random drawers in the dining area, he returned with a small deck of cards.
"Uh, this is all we have..." he offered timidly.
Upon observing the pack, her face lit up and she grinned wildly. "No way, Wizard?! I love that game!" she exclaimed.
"You do?" Eddie's smile was growing by the second. Next to D&D, Wizard was his favorite game to play. Truthfully, he was pleasantly surprised that she had even heard of it, let alone seemed to enjoy it as much as he did.
"Don't act so surprised." she retorted with feigned offence.
"No, it's just... I didn't think you were into this kind of stuff." he said, inadvertently blushing.
"Nerdy stuff?" she quipped. "Well, I've only ever played once... But I loved it!"
"Shall we play then?" he said excitedly while lightly shaking the deck of cards side to side.
"Let's do it, I ought to warn you though, I annihilated my friends last time." she provoked.
"Alright well I'll have you know, I've never lost a game, so..." he trailed off making a silly, challenging face.
"You're on." she playfully retorted.
-
A couple of hours and a few beers deep led the pair to lose interest in the card game. Eddie had won most of the matches anyway. They were sprawled out on the living room floor, deep in conversation when she suggested they move to a more comfortable spot, noting how sore her elbows were getting from propping herself up off the ground. Eddie agreed and guided them to his bedroom, feeling a bit tired himself.
Once in the room, Eddie gathered some clothes and excused himself to go change in the bathroom. This gave her time to pull out some sleep shorts and an oversized tee and get dressed herself. Once comfortable in bed, Eddie walked back into the bedroom wearing checkered pajama pants and a CCR band tee. She glanced at the shirt, then at his face with a cheeky grin.
"CCR, huh?" she playfully questioned, brows raised.
He paused for a moment, seemingly caught off guard by her comment. "They... You know, they're a good band!" he paused as he noticed her struggling to keep a straight face. "Shut up!" he exclaimed playfully while getting into bed.
She giggled before responding. "I never said they were bad! I just didn't take you as a fan!"
"Yeah, well... You can thank Wayne for that..." he chuckled while shaking his head, the memories of his uncle and him bonding over this genre of music came flooding back into his mind. She smiled at his response and got closer to him, her head once again finding it's way onto his chest. She pondered for a few minutes, then chose to speak up, not wanting Eddie to succumb to his tired state.
"Thank you... For everything." she said while her fingers traced patterns on his chest. He squeezed her shoulder lovingly in response and kissed the top of her head. A silence lingered in the room as the pair waited for one another to speak up. It wasn't awkward by any means but simply quiet, peaceful, as they both laid together.
Thoughts of Samuel began to plague her once more, until she felt Eddie's warm touch, rubbing her arm soothingly. She suddenly was brought back to the present, realizing that her ex boyfriend no longer had a hold over her. He could no longer dictate her actions or jeopardize her happiness. She felt her heart flutter, feeling a sense of newfound freedom and excitement washing over her. She gazed up at Eddie who returned a loving glance and smiled from cheek to cheek, blushing slightly. She felt a lump in her throat from excitement and pushed herself to make the leap. Fuck it.
She inched her body forward, close enough to give Eddie a sweet kiss on the cheek. She talked herself out of a proper kiss on the lips, wanting to gage his reaction first. As she pulled away, she once again looked at him sweetly and paused. The ball was now in his court.
Eddie couldn't believe this had all worked out in his favor. In both of their favors. He was so incredibly relieved that she was able to get away from Samuel, while selfishly praising every deity there was for giving him a sliver of hope that, maybe... Just maybe... He could get the girl. Eddie was so caught up in his thoughts that he just stared on, admiring her features. He finally snapped out of it when she leaned in once more, this time committing to his lips.
Despite having kissed before, this time felt different. The intensity of it grew rapidly, Eddie making quick work to sit up against the wall and help pull her up onto his lap. She straddled his thighs, trying her hardest to never break away from the kiss. Her hand found it's way to the nape of his neck, while the other was exploring his body, moving from his chest to his waist.
With the house being vacant apart from the both of them, Eddie was a lot more vocal that he had been earlier that day. His breathing quickened the more they kissed and small breathy moans began to escape his lips with every small rhythmic movement her hips would make. She snaked her hand under his shirt, making her way to his back. There, she lightly scratched it with her nails, resulting in an elongated groan from the riled up metal head. He took her face into his hands and began kissing her more intently, expertly slipping his tongue into her mouth. This warranted a positive reply from her as she grinded her hips harder against his now very hard cock. She retracted her hand from his backside and broke awake from the kiss, urgently working to remove Eddie's shirt. He obliged, hurriedly taking off the band tee and chucking it across the room. Before he could do the same to her top, she was already tossing it to the ground, exposing her breasts to him for the first time.
Like a deer in headlights, Eddie froze, his mouth hanging agape as he gazed upon what was, in his opinion, the prettiest set of tits he had ever seen in his life. She halted her movements, analyzing his reaction to her exposed chest and couldn't help but giggle at his frozen state.
"You okay?" she asked shyly.
Eddie blinked rapidly as he now looked her in the eyes. "Hmm? Oh, yeah, sorry... I uh.. I mean, wow..."
She giggled once more at how flustered he was and leaned in to kiss him once more. She resumed her movements, earning a strained moan from Eddie as he kissed her passionately. His hands found their way to her chest, as he gently but firmly began to fondle. He winced slightly at the pain from his sore hand but desperately tried to ignore it. (Priorities, am I right?)
He broke away from her lips and began planting soft kisses on her neck. She sighed, moving her head back to expose more of the area. Eddie gently nibbled and sucked onto the sensitive spot, making sure to leave a mark. He grinned in the nape of her neck when she let out a near pornographic moan and grinded harder against him.
"Take these off." he instructed as he gently moved his hand to her thigh and tapped it.
"Only if you do." she responded playfully. She couldn't help but stare at Eddie's bare chest. His tattoos seemed to have been placed by the Gods. He was toned, especially in his arms and shoulders, though he had a small pudgy stomach that drove her crazy. She could feel her mouth watering and her eyes drowning in desire as she waited for him to undress. She was so caught up in her daze that she almost forgot their pact. It wasn't until Eddie started to shift away from her to gain access to his bottoms that she clued in and began removing her sleep shorts. She tossed the fabric onto the ground and settled on the bed once more, where her eyes found Eddie's now fully nude body. She could feel her eyes widen and her mouth salivate as she gazed upon his large member. Her ex boyfriend wasn't small by any means, but he definitely wasn't this big.
Eddie noticed her stunned state and began feeling self conscious but those thoughts only lasted a second, fading into oblivion as she moved towards him, gently pushing his chest down so he could rest against the wall once more. She made quick work of straddling him once and leaned in for another kiss. This one is slow, sensual, she wants to take her time. She feels insanely comfortable with him, which is very new and oh so intoxicating. By now, she can feel her arousal sticking to Eddie's thighs as she continues to rock back and forth against him, desperately seeking friction to relieve this ache in her core. Finally, her hips move upwards just enough, causing her heat to grind against Eddie's throbbing cock. A strained groan escapes his lips, forcing him to break away from the kiss.
"Honey, do you... Um.." he seems conflicted, debating whether or not he should finish that thought. She looks at him, trying her best to catch her breath as she waits for him to complete his sentence.
"Uh... fuck... I don't have condoms..." he says reluctantly, palming his forehead. He begins to shift backwards, clearly understanding that this unfortunate hitch in their desired plan shouldn't be ignored.
This hitch doesn't seem to phase her though, as she softly shakes her head and leans in for another kiss. "I don't care... Just pull out. Please, i need this." she desperately moans into his mouth.
Eddie is less than convinced, knowing that the responsible thing to do would be to post-pone their sexual activities until he can get proper protection. She moves to his neck, gently planting kisses before whispering in a needy tone into his ear: "I need you, Eddie... Please... Please fuck me"
Eddie never knew he had thing for begging until this moment, but apparently that was all it took for him to throw common sense out of the window. He groaned, half in lust, the other half in slight defeat as he knew how grave the consequences could be, but nevertheless he caved. He kissed her passionately, tangling his hand into her hair. His free hand found it's way to her ass, as he grabbed a fistful and gently squeezed. She lifted herself up onto her knees in response, readjusting so she could line herself up to his member. Once there, she began grinding her hips against him, transferring her slick onto him. Eddie already felt like he was gonna bust from the friction alone, but was holding on for dear life, not wanting this moment to be over one second too soon.
As though she had heard his thoughts, she gave him one more deep kiss before smiling excitedly, and lifting her hips up once more. Eddie took the hint and took his hard cock into his hand, stroking it a few times before lining it up to her entrance. As soon as he felt the tip begin to probe at her tight hole, his eyes shut tightly and a guttural moan left his mouth. He forced himself to open his eyes once more, not wanting to miss the girl of his dreams sinking down onto him in pure bliss and pleasure.
When she finally started to sink down on his length, she couldn't help the small gasp that escapes her lips. She froze momentarily as she presses her lips together. Eddie admires her, thinking she truly is a sight for sore eyes. He brings his hand up to gently caress her cheek while he stares at her beautiful features. Her brows are tightly knit and her eyes shut. He begins to trace along her cheek with his thumb in a comforting way. “You okay?” He asks in a hushed tone, as he patiently waits for her to resume her movements.
She snaps out of her meditation and looks down at him, shooting him a timid smile. “Sorry…M’not used to it”
Eddie cocks an eyebrow, unsure of the meaning behind her comment. “Oh, are you…uh..” he trails off, he can't imagine that he would be her first, unless her previous relationship just wasn't a sexual one...
She quickly realizes that her comment was misinterpreted and quickly acts to clarify. “No, god no…” she giggles before continuing. “I mean I’m not used to it being so big…” She sighs once more as she makes another attempt at lowering herself onto him, her eyes fluttering as she does.
Eddie can’t help but feel a huge rush of adrenaline as her words give him confidence. Soon enough, she begins moving once more causing him to groans while his head falls onto the pillow. His hand that was once holding her cheek falls by his side as he brings the other one to rest on her hip. He squeezes it encouragingly as she slowly, but finally sits perfectly on his entire length. She takes a moment to get used to the feeling. Eddie’s eyes sparkle with admiration as they dart from her beautiful face to her chest, slowly rising as she sighs in pleasure. She's grinding against him as she tries to get used to the feeling of being so full. Her nails that were resting on his chest begin to slowly drag along his skin as she lifts her body, only to slam it back down onto his. This causes Eddie to groan once more, only this time its much louder, needier. She smirks down at him and begins setting a slow but steady pace.
Her jaw becomes slack and her eyes gloss over as it is now her turn to admire the man below her. Though she had fantasized about this moment many times before, nothing compared to the present. Both of his hands had made their way to her hips, slowly guiding them to keep up with the pace she had set. Eddie’s low moans were music to her ears, but she craved more. She bent down to kiss him whilst still riding him at a steady pace. As she began to focus more on the kiss, her movements faltered slightly. Eddie took this as his cue to take over, snapping his hips upwards at a quicker pace. The sudden movement drew a lewd moan from her and she began to whine into the nape of his neck.
"Fuck, you feel so good sweetheart" he rasped as he continued to pound into her. "Been dreamin' about this..."
Her stomach fluttered as she processed his words and she moaned in response. Hearing Eddie being so vocal was a stark contrast to her previous relationship and it ignited a fire deep within her. She liked it. Alot. She was definitely the vocal type during sex as well, but always held back per her ex boyfriend's request to "tone it down". Given how vocal Eddie was, it just felt natural to do the same. She began moaning and whimpering more freely, as a way of testing out the waters. This seemed to be received well as Eddie responded with an even needier groan from hearing her. She planted a kiss on his neck before moving to regain control of the pace, returning to her previous position. She expertly rolled her hips with deep, slow movements. The friction caused by her clit brushing against his pubic bone was sending her over the edge. Eddie noticed right away as he felt her walls tighten and her legs get shakier.
'Yeah, that's it baby..." he encouraged breathily, admiring the way she moved on top of him. "Ride it out..."
"M'so close... Love feeling you..." she whimpered in a hushed, whiney tone.
Eddie swore he had died and gone to heaven, he was enamored by her beauty and so incredibly close himself, he was certain this had to be a dream. He adored seeing her in this position, so much so that he grew desperate to know how she would look underneath him. He swiftly halted her movements by placing both of his hands on her hips. "Let me get you there." he pleaded, quickly flipping her onto the bed and getting on top of her.
She spread her legs, allowing enough space for Eddie to settle between them. He placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, then her lips as he, without warning, slid into her tight core once again. She sighed in pleasurable relief, the new position feeling amazingly unfamiliar. Eddie was quick to set a rapid pace, wanting to get her to where she so desperately wanted to be. The sound of his balls smacking against her ass along with whimpers and moans were echoing throughout Eddie's small home. Soon enough, she could feel the all too familiar ache begging to be released from her lower abdomen. Her breathing quickened as she chased the high. Eddie's bangs began to cling onto his forehead as small beads of sweat began to form. His arm muscles were very prominent as he propped himself up, fucking her senseless.
"Come on baby, cum for me." he encouraged breathily, feeling his own release fast approaching. He shifted his position slightly, hitting her g-spot perfectly, again and again. She moaned loudly, screwing her eyes shut as she felt her orgasm fast approaching.
"Fuck, Eddie! Right there!" she blubbered, struggling to get the words out between quick gasps.
Eddie took her words as a challenge and began fucking into her quicker and harder than before, desperate to see her come undone. His movements made her exclaim, expelling what little air was left from her lungs before she quickly took a sharp breath in.
"Ed's, I'm cumming!" she gasps, screwing her eyes shut. Eddie feels her tightened walls begin to spasm as her orgasm crashes into her. He continues to pound into her while she rides out the high, trying to get to his own release.
"I love you" she breathily whines, completely fucked out. Eddie's movements falter, and his rhythm slows. He can't comprehend what just happened. All he knows is that her words are actively pushing him over the edge. He moans while he reluctantly pulls out, spilling his seed into his hand as he pumps his dick a few times, letting out strained moans. A few seconds pass before he opens his eyes again and his knees give out from under him. His gazes falls upon her, laying on her back still, gazing at him lovingly while still catching her breath.
He returns a loving smile in her direction while chuckling lightly and shaking his head. He breathes in deeply then gets up to retrieve some well needed tissues from his desk. As the true gentleman he is, he prioritizes her comfort over his and gently cleans her up. She winces slightly over the sensitivity but thanked him nonetheless, blushing slightly. After tossing the used tissues into his small trash bin, he climbed into bed, tugging the blanket up so they could both be covered once again. They settled in bed, cuddling up to one another, despite how hot and humid the small bedroom had gotten from their heated night.
The feeling of discomfort grew, resulting in Eddie reluctantly getting out of bed to open the small window in his room. His hopes that the night would offer a cool breeze were met with satisfaction as he felt instant relief from the cracked window. He hurriedly got back into bed, desperate to feel her close once more.
As she lay on his chest, she was growing anxious at her spontaneous love confession mid-climax. She cursed herself, fearing that, despite how true her words were, they were spoken far too soon. She tried to muffle her overthinking thoughts, opting to sleep and deal with them tomorrow.
"Night Eds..." she quietly spoke, raising her head off of his chest to give him a small peck on his abdomen.
Goodnight... "he responded, squeezing her arm lovingly.
The room grew silent, long enough for her to start feeling drowsy, mere seconds away from slumber, when Eddie leaned over. He kissed the top of her head a few time then uttered ever so quietly: "I love you too, by the way."

May, 1988
The sun beamed through the chipped windshield of Eddie's 1971 Chevy as he made his was through the city of Chicago. Taking quick glances at his map every chance he got, his eyes honed in on the big red pen mark circling his new address.
Truth be told, Eddie wouldn't have believed it if he were told a few months back that he would be uprooting his life one state over. He wasn't much of a plan kind of guy, so this move was rather spontaneous. The town of Hawkins no longer felt like home but a prison, it's tight shackles a reminder of the simpleton lifestyle he was bound to lead if he stayed in this godforsaken place. He dreamt of a bigger life, for it to have meaning. And if he couldn't attain it in Indiana, perhaps Illinois was the place to be.
He finally pulled over to the side of the road next to a dilapidated building. He put the car in park and glanced at his map once more, then back at the rough looking structure. Eddie caught a glimpse of a golden plate on the brick wall reading '242' and sighed. The number, unfortunately, corresponds with the address on his lease. He could only hope for a nicer interior as he climbed out of the driver's seat and walked towards the building.
Upon entering his new residence, his prior optimism was shattered by more unfavorable characteristics. The building had a distinct smell that Eddie couldn't quite place, but it certainly wasn't a pleasant one. It reminded him of his great aunt's home that reeked of cigarettes and peppermint, only so much worse. He tried not to think about too much, making his way up the flight of stairs. As he came to his apartment door, he noticed a small note taped to the door. He squinted as he attempted to read the scribbled writing:
'See 87 for key' the note read.
Assuming this was the work of his landlord, he began looking for the number eighty seven. The apartment was relatively easy to find, given that the building only had 2 flights of stairs. Eddie noted that his landlord lived directly above him before knocking on the door. He took a step back as he waited for a response.
A few seconds passed, then a whole minute did and still... No answer. Not wanting to seem too eager, he decided against knocking again. This decision was forfeited once 2 minutes elapsed without any sign of life inside that apartment. Eddie knocked once again, this time more forcefully which, luckily, yielded results. An older gentlemen with large bi-focal glasses opened the door, smiling, though he did look a tad frazzled.
"Can i help you?" he asked, pushing the bridge of his glasses up his nose.
"I think so... Uh, i hope so." he nervously chuckled. "I'm moving into 82...." he trailed off, pointing at his feet in reference to the vacant apartment below them.
"Oh, yes. Eddie, is it?" the man asked, eyeing him up and down curiously.
Eddie nodded, feeling slightly uneasy under his landlord's inquisitive gaze.
"Brian, pleasure." the old man extended his hand while smiling.
They shook hands and Eddie was taken aback by Brian's strong grip, especially considering his small stature. He handed Eddie the key and gave him the rundown of the building. Despite it's dodgy appearance, this appeared to be a great place to live. Rent was affordable, his landlord was nice and the interior of his bachelor pad was newly renovated.
After two hours and several tedious trips up and down the stairs, Eddie was finally settled in. He sat on the window seat overlooking the city, feeling excited for the morning to come. When it eventually did, he embarked on then next task at hand; finding a job. He figured it wouldn't be too difficult in a city this size, and began wandering the streets, walking into all shops and bars in sight within walking distance from his home.
Eventually, he found a shoe store that was hiring. Now, this wasn't the kind of excitement he was hoping for, but given his circumstance and dire need for cash, it would have to do for now.
_
Following a closing shift one Saturday night, he decided to venture down the bustling street, figuring a night out on the town would lift his spirits. Luckily the shoe store wasn't strict on attire, so Eddie rolled out of there wearing his nicer pair of jeans along with a Van Halen band tee and his trusty leather jacket. He eventually stumbled upon a small rock junction with a flashing neon light reading 'LIVE! SHOWS! EVERY! SATURDAY!'
Obnoxious advertising aside, he was intrigued, and decided to give this place a chance. He felt right at home once her entered, noting that it was very clearly a dive bar similar to the one he used to play at with his former band back in Hawkins.
Given it's size, it didn't take much time for him to find the bar and order himself a beer. His usual go to of Pabst Blue Ribbon was anything but his favorite, but it was the cheaper option. He thanked the bar tender and found a spot to stand within the small crowd gathered near the stage. Eddie noticed almost instantly the lead singer's inebriated state as he swayed and screeched the lyrics into the mic. Eddie quickly took a large sip of his beer in an attempt to hide the grimace forming on his face. He hoped that maybe after a few drinks himself, the drunkard would sound better.
He didn't.
The band carried on for another 10 excruciating minutes, the crowd filing out of the bar as they tried to escape the horrendous performer. Eddie stayed put though, amused yet feeling sorry for the rest of the band mates who looked absolutely horrified.
Without warning, the man hurled the mic down to the ground, causing a shrill ring to blast through the sound system. He then stumbled off the stage, yelling words at his bandmates that Eddie couldn't quite make out before stumbling out the back door.
Eddie downed the rest of his beer, placed it on a nearby table waiting to be bussed and headed out the front door. Once outside, he leaned against the brick wall, sighing as he looked for his pack of cigarettes.
'What a night.' he thought to himself.
His attention was diverted to the front door swinging open and an agitated woman storming out. Eddie avoided eye contact, trying to mind his business and not irritate her further.
"Got a light?" she blurted out, staring directly at him.
Eddie froze at the sudden interaction, eyes widening. He quickly snapped out of it, hurriedly digging in his pocket to retrieve it. He pulled out the small blue lighter, flicking it before the cigarette placed between her lips.
Once he successfully lit it, they stood together quietly, Eddie not daring to speak a word. From experience, he knew better than to try to feign encouragement to make someone feel better about a clearly shitty situation. The antsy woman paced around for a bit, before turning to face him once more.
"You don't happen to know any available front men, do you?"
Eddie chuckled at her desperate, unexpected plea. "Uh.. none that you'd be interested in". he responded while putting out his cigarette.
She perked up. "What do you mean by that?"
"None in the city, i mean..." he quickly corrected himself.
"Shit..." she muttered under her breath, her disappointment very evident.
Eddie felt bad for bending the truth... He would be a front man, hell he was one once! But this band was different than anything he had ever played before, and he knew better than to try to live up to an expectation he knew he couldn't live up to.
"Well, thanks for the light." She offered a kind smile before retreating inside the bar.
"Good luck!" Eddie called out, truly wishing her the best.

June, 1988
It had been a month now since Eddie had moved to the city, and he had become quite comfortable here. He finally ditched the shoe store, finding work at a record store where he restored donated instruments, a gig that proved to be urgently needed given how many busted up Les Pauls' ended up in his care. He had yet to make any friends, apart from his co-workers, but that felt like plenty for now. Especially since his time off was mostly spent wandering the nearby shops or visiting friends and Wayne back in Hawkins.
The only real complaint he could think of was with his landlord, Marvin, who had a nasty habit of falling asleep at the drop of a dime. This would often result in the tap being left on causing flooding in his apartment. This, in turn, would lead to the flooding of Eddie's apartment as well.
Despite Eddie's patience and understanding for the older gentleman, he had reached his breaking point one morning when he was awoken by the uncomfortable feeling of damp sheets surrounding him.
"...what... the fuck..." he mumbled while sitting up from his drenched mattress. He instinctively looked up just as a droplet of water splatted on his forehead. "God dammit!!" he screeched, the covers flinging off of his body and onto the floor from the motion of him launching out of bed.
He hurried to his closet where he practically ripped his house coat off the hanger, shoving his arms through the sleeves and tying the loose belt around his waist. He stormed up the staircase and hurried over to apartment 82.
After knocking several times with varying amounts of force, the brass door creaked open. Marvin appeared in the doorway looking rather disheveled, wearing a similar house coat to Eddie's. The older gentlemen chuckled at the sight of his young tenant, not used to seeing him look so.. flustered. "I'm sorry Eddie, you know how i get after I've had tea." was all the gentleman offered as he looked at him apologetically.
Eddie often wondered if the tea in question happened to be laced with some type of sleep agent. Nevertheless, he no longer wanted to deal with it, deciding right then and there to look for new places to live.
His search for one bedroom apartments proved to be a challenge, as most of the places he was interested in were way out of his budget. He was forced to look for bedrooms to lease, even though he wasn't keen on the idea of having roommates.
After a slew of disappointing visits to sketchy buildings with even sketchier people, he had but two ads in the paper left to respond to. One was on the far side of town, and the other was a room a few blocks away from his place. He figured he'd start with the further option since the description of the place sounded a lot nicer than the latter.
After a lengthy cab ride, the car pulled up to a building stained with light blue paint lazily applied onto the brick wall. He exited the cab after paying the driver and made his way into the building. Despite the unkept exterior, the lobby was very nice and even came equip with an elevator, something Eddie wasn't so lucky to have where he currently resided.
He eagerly got into the elevator, pressing onto the number four until it illuminated, signaling it's final destination before promptly shutting the doors. Finding the listed apartment was fairly easy given the small amount of homes per floor. He knocked on the door and waited patiently for his potential roommates to answer. He only had to wait a couple of seconds for the door to swing open, a stark contrast from how long it takes for Marvin to respond.
"No shit!" a familiar voice exclaimed.
'"Oh, hey!" Eddie replied, surprised to find the keyboard player from the bar standing before him.
"What? What is it?" came a muffled voice from another room.
"Just some guy i know." the woman responded, smiling amusingly. Eddie couldn't help but smirk at her response. 'Some guy i know' was generous given their brief interaction a month ago.
"Eddie." he said introducing himself.
"Well, Eddie, you come to see the place?" she began before extending her hand. "I'm Steph."
"Uh, yeah! I saw your ad in the paper..." he shook her hand in return.
"Why you moving, Eddie?" the voice called from afar. "You get evicted or something?" he questioned challengingly.
"Don't mind him." Steph responded while smiling warmly, a stark contrast to her annoyed tone. "He assumes the worst in people."
"Because people are the worst!"
She rolled her eyes in response. "Well, come on in! It's a two bedroom, but we converted the living room into a bedroom, which don't worry! Is not the room you'll be staying in!" she spoke rapidly while making her way through each room. Eddie followed along, though he struggled to keep up.
Steph guided him to the bedrooms, urging Eddie to enter the larger vacant one. "This is the master," she stated. "perks include more space and access to the fire escape!"
Eddie stepped inside to have a look. Although he liked what he was seeing, he wanted to make sure it wasn't too good to be true.
"And you said 200$?" he asked while inspecting the room.
"A month, yeah. Usually we'd get you to pay first and last's but... We're kind of desperate..." she admitted, trailing off.
"Desperate, huh? Well, when could i move in?"
"Tomorrow's good!" she eagerly responded.
Eddie raised his eyebrows, unable to prevent the chuckle from escaping his lips. Just then, a man appeared behind her, presumably the voice that rang through the apartment earlier.
"You're really dropping the ball here, Stephanie." he teased as he put both hands on her shoulders. She quickly shrugged them off of her, turning to glare. "Eddie, is it?" the man continued.
Eddie hummed in acknowledgment.
"Tom." he said dryly.
"Or Thomas if he's being a real prick." Steph chimed in, clearly retaliating for his prior use of her full name.
"Don't call me that." Tom said in a stern manor, pointing a threatening finger at Eddie.
"Noted, Steph and Tom." Eddie reassured, raising both hands up defensively. He had to admit, Tom's attitude was slightly off-putting and he certainly found his and Steph's dynamic odd, but amusing nonetheless. Despite this, Eddie felt that he was a pretty good judge of character, and apart from this small quirk, the lack alarm bells sounding off in his brain helped him make a decision.
He took a leap and agreed to move in, which in tern, caused Steph to leap as well.
Literally.

September, 1988
Despite everything that resulted in Eddie seeking a new apartment and Steph's eager offer for him to move in so soon, he chose to give Marvin a few month's notice out of respect. After all, he wasn't a bad guy, he just had a bad habit.
Luckily, there were no more incidents leading up to him leaving and soon enough, moving day came. Much to his surprise, his new roommates offered a helping hand, though Tom seemed less than pleased. What would have normally taken Eddie a full day, only took two hours.
Once all of his belongings were set in his room, Eddie walked around his new place, taking in small details he hadn't noticed before. For example, the collection of shot glasses neatly placed on a hanging shelf near the kitchen. He couldn't help the smile that formed on his face, the arrangement reminded him of his uncle's collection of mugs back at the trailer.
Steph appeared behind him, gazing up at the shelf. "Oh, yeah! Just a.. silly little thing i like to do." she stated, seeming proud of the display.
"My uncle's got a bunch of mugs he collects, too."
"Does your uncle steal them from bars and restaurants, too?"
Eddie turned to face her, eyes wide and fully invested in what he thought was just mindless chit chatting. He glanced back at the collection, then to Steph one more. He nodded, his lips forming into a pout while his eyebrows raised. "Impressive."

October, 1988
The trio had gotten closer in the small amount of time spent living together. Tom finally warmed up to Eddie, allowing him to see the good side of him that wasn't always snarky and judgmental. He opened up to Eddie one night following a smoking session, speaking of his tumultuous upbringing. The pair bonded over shared experiences, and realized that they actually had quite a lot in common. Thus, a friendship blossomed where Eddie didn't think it would.
As for Steph, they became close almost instantaneously, all thanks to her bubbly, in your face personality. Their banter, though not as intense as hers and Tom's, was always cause for entertainment. Unlike the men, Steph had lead a simple life, some might even call it easy. Her lack of trauma was almost unbelievable to Eddie, but it made him very protective of his new friend. In his eyes, if she was lucky enough to have gone through 24 years of life without experiencing hardships, now was not the time for that to happen.
Eddie as well as his roommates had varying work schedules, which often resulted in at least one person being left alone at the house.
This time, it was Eddie's turn for some much needed me time. He spent the afternoon reading and smoking in his favorite spot: the fire escape. Though, spending more than an hour at a time in there resulted in him being covered in dust and debris, most likely becoming airborne from the speeding cars passing by.
This slight annoyance caused him to cut his reading session short, heading inside in desperate need of a shower. With everyone out of the house, Eddie didn't feel as bad blasting his music through his stereo as he occupied the bathroom. He sang along loudly to the Black Sabbath album playing through the apartment without a care in the world. He lathered his hair in foamy shampoo, enjoying every minute of this warm shower when suddenly, the bathroom door swung open and a wide eyed Steph came gawking in.
"JESUS CHRIST!!" he exclaimed, quickly covering his bottom half with his hands.
"You sing?!" she shouted over the music still blaring, paying no mind to his naked body.
"Uh, yeah...Do you knock??" he blurted out, now blushing from her presence.
"Why didn't you tell me?" she pushed on.
"Can we have this conversation some other time? Maybe when i'm not naked, THREE FEET AWAY FROM YOU."
Steph rolled her eyes, storming forward and pulling the transparent curtain aside causing Eddie to yelp. "Like this thing covers anything anyway. Besides, i don't care about that right now. Why didn't you tell me you can sing, you could have joined our band ages ago!"
"Because, you... Could you at least hand me that towel?" he asked pleadingly.
"No." she responded without missing a beat, causing Eddie to sigh.
"I didn't think you'd want me to join... Our styles are so... different. Plus, don't you need a bass player?"
"And a singer!" she corrected.
"Right... But i don't play bass, remember?" he asked rhetorically, knowing Steph had seen his guitar hanging up on his bedroom wall.
"I know, jackass." she said, throwing the towel at him. "But if we have you as our lead, it'll be way easier finding a bass player rather than someone who can do both! You've heard of two birds, one stone? Well this is one stone and you're the bird!"
Eddie paused, blinking slowly while trying to decipher her jumbled metaphor. "What...are you talking about...?"
"Forget it, can you just do me this one favor, and please join the band?" she pleaded, bringing her hands up to intertwine her fingers.
"If i say yes will you get the hell out of here?" he asked, wanting nothing more than for this interaction to be over.
"No backsies?" she urged, narrowing her eyes.
"Yeah, fine!!" Eddie blurted out, growing frustrated as the foamy shampoo began trickling down his forehead and into his eyes.
Steph shrieked excitedly while exiting the bathroom. "Alright! Let's find that other bird!"

Funny Seeing You Here
Synopsis
Long time in-patient y/n was looking forward to her upcoming discharge date from the Hawkins Memorial Hospital. That is, until she became acquainted with an unlikely familiar face, Eddie Munson.
Author’s Note
This is a fix it fic following Stranger Things season 4, volume 2. In this fic, we’re going to forget the fact that the Duffer Brothers decided to delete Eddie from the series. :-) These events take place after the battle in the upside down. I’m also choosing to change the ending of season 4 by having the issue with the upside down resolved, therefore, Hawkins is not plagued by the massive earthquake that resulted in new portals being opened.
What To Expect
Slow burn, angst with a happy ending, fluff, smut in later chapters. ♡
Series Warnings
Mentions of mental health struggles, SMUT (in the later chapters, 18+ to read this story), angst with a happy ending, canon-typical violence.
Tumblr media
Chapter 1
It’s hard to remember how much time has passed since y/n was initially admitted to Hawkins Memorial Hospital as part of an inpatient program. 38 days? Maybe closer to 58. She wasn’t sure.
The days tend to blend into this repetitive and forgettable cycle of wake up, take your medication, do group activities and talk to councillors, have your meals, then go to sleep. Part of the confusion was probably since this wasn’t the first-time y/n had been through this tiring process.
Being from a small town and not always conforming to the social standards had at times, made her feel quite vulnerable and a bit of an outcast. This wasn’t to say that she didn’t have any friends. In fact, it was quite the opposite. Y/n was a very friendly and outgoing person, she just had a tendency of doubting herself which led to isolation. She had established a somewhat solid friend group while in high school, but since graduating in 84, most of her friends had moved away to college. Her struggles with her mental health definitely took a toll on her remaining friendships, and although she initially had visitors, they became less frequent as time passed on.
Y/n had gotten pretty familiar with the order of operations over time and was well acquainted with most of the staff from her unit. It probably helped that she took pride in knowing that she always made an effort to be kind, no matter how she was feeling inside. One of her favourite nurses was a man named Wayne. He had been working at the hospital for well over 16 years at this point but his passion for his career never faded.
Wayne was a large burly man; he was quite tall too. Y/n always referred to him as a gentle giant, because although he looked a little intimidating if you ever caught him in a daze, with that serious face he made whenever he would space out, he was very soft spoken and so caring. He was typically the nurse assigned to make sure the patients were up and out of bed in the mornings and would always do so with a wonderfully positive attitude. If Wayne was having a bad day, you would never know.
Although the inpatient program was quite long and grueling, there were some perks to it. Sometimes…
As previously mentioned, y/n had made some friendships with the staff during her stay, and with those friendships came some benefits. Over time, she was able to modify her daily schedule, with the help and approval of her doctors. This usually entailed more time outside in the courtyard, later bedtimes and preferred meal plans. You know what they say about hospital food… It’s not always the best.
The thing y/n loved most however was the freedom to roam. Whether it was outside or indoors, she just liked the freedom of walking. Given that she had been there for quite some time, the staff were very trusting of her and after a few initially supervised strolls, she was granted the privilege of roaming alone: how exciting.
The town of Hawkins wasn’t exactly the liveliest place to live, nor did it provide much excitement or scandals, so you can imagine y/n’s intrigue when, on one of her daily strolls around the hospital, she encountered an array of cops escorting paramedics, rushing to get to the nearest elevator while pushing a gurney with a patient on it.
Y/n’s eyesight isn’t exactly the best, and given that this all happened so fast, she barely had time to process what had just unfolded before her eyes, let alone who was on that gurney. Perhaps finding out the identity of this person and the story behind their grand entry could be something to keep her occupied for the day.

Chapter 13
The air was thick with tension in the elevator, y/n waiting anxiously for Wayne to break the silence. He was breathing heavily, eyes glued to the illuminating numbers indicating which floor they were on. The silence was becoming unbearable and she began to wonder if she should be the first to speak. Before she could come up with anything to say, they had reached their destination, Wayne exiting before the doors were opened all the way. Like a shameful puppy, she trailed close behind him, nearly stepping on the back of his shoe a few times. Once in her unit, he led the way to her room and motioned towards the sole chair. "Sit." he said sternly.
She hurried over to the chair tucking her knees to her chest once seated; a pose she frequently adopted whenever she sought comfort. To her surprise, Wayne exited her room without a word, his whereabouts remained unknown for the next few hours. Y/n's schedule was free for the rest of the day, leaving her with far too much time to worry about the outcome of her mishap.
-
When Wayne finally returned to her room, the clock read 4:15pm. Fearing further reprimanding, she hadn't dared leave her room, let alone the seat she was assigned hours ago. Upon his return, y/n noted with slight relief that his demeanor was much more relaxed. He sat on the edge of her bed and crossed his arms, a sigh escaping his nostrils.
"You know, when i told you to sit, i didn't mean forever." he teased, attempting to lighten to mood.
She met his gaze with a worried look, unsure if she should laugh or remain serious.
He sighed once again, this time with his whole chest and uncrossed his arms attempting to look less intimidating. "Do you wanna talk about what happened down there?" he began.
"I don't know" she said gently, her voice muffled from her face being tucked into her knees.
"Alright, well I would like to talk about it. What happened, kid? I mean seriously, i don't wanna come down on ya too hard but i just spent the last 3 hours covering for you." he said, his tone stern but gentle.
Wayne was always hyperaware of the way he spoke to her, never raising his voice. Prior to his disappearance, he felt it was best to collect himself before confronting her to ensure he wouldn't snap. A wise decision on his part given how angry he was at the time.
"Im so sorry Wayne, i didn't mean to be late." she offered, trying her best to hold back tears. She could feel the familiar lump in her throat, a sign her emotions were about to get the best of her.
"I know you didn't mean to, and that's not the issue at hand here. What were you doing down in the ER? You know your access was limited to the 3rd and 2nd floor. Some nurse spotted you down there and you're lucky it was my friend Stephanie. If it had been anyone else, they would have ratted you out to the administration. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal but this isn't the first time we've run into issues like this, and you know who gets in trouble?" he asked rhetorically, pointing his index finger to his chest, pursing his lips.
A few moments passed and he noticed her eyes becoming glossy. He quickly worked to lighten her mood, not wanting her to shed tears over this minor incident. "Lucky for you, the old man is skilled in the art of sweet talkin'," he began, not wanting to dwell on the issue for too long. She knew she made a mistake and clearly felt remorse. His goal was never to make her feel bad or prolong her sorrow. "no one's in trouble for now, but we're gonna have to lay low for a while, if you know what i mean."
She gave him a perplexed look, not wanting to assume what he meant in case she was met with disappointment. He met her gaze and elaborated on his prior choice of words. "We're gonna stick to the unit's floor for the time being on our walks."
It was bittersweet, but she was in no position to complain. Especially since she expected her privilege to be revoked completely. She gave Wayne an understanding nod, her eyes quickly finding the floor once more. Wayne stood up carefully and made his way towards the door, stopping to pat her gently on the shoulder. "Now do me a favor, take a lap around the unit, will ya? Your knees are gonna be locked in that position forever if you keep sitting like that." he quipped.
She gave him a light smile before getting up from the chair to execute his request.
-
The next morning, y/n woke up to the gentle sounds of rain tapping against her window. It was a stormy day, something she had grown to enjoy over time. Days like this always seemed calmer and she would often sit by the nearest window to admire the droplets, sometimes bringing a book to read to pass the time.
She was hoping to hear from Dustin soon, given that she had forgotten to grab his phone number during their previous interaction. It had been three days since she had last spoken to or seen Eddie, his absence becoming more prevalent as the days went on. With her access to his floor now revoked, she could only hope that Dustin would reach out soon.
Her train of thought was abruptly interrupted by the overhead intercom blaring, a nurses voice could be heard calling for her to come to the front desk. 'Crap, what now.' she thought.
She marched over to reception and was greeted by a livelier than usual Margot wearing bright pink lipstick, perhaps she had a date tonight? "Phone's for you, dear. Line 1."
Y/n's heart skipped a beat, her mood instantly bettering as she headed over to the hanged telephone and snatched it from the receiver. She plopped down on the adjacent chair tucking one foot under her opposing thigh and excitedly greeted the caller, who she presumed to be her brother.
"Hey stranger" a familiar voice spoke sweetly.
It took her a couple of seconds to recognize his voice, it sounded slightly deeper on the phone. Or perhaps he was gaining some strength back and didn't sound as winded as he had previously.
"Eddie! Hi!!" she exclaimed, caught off guard.
"Thought i'd try calling since you've been MIA, you free for a chat?" he asked in a playful tone.
"I'm so glad you called." she blurted out, wincing instantly after hearing the words spill out. She heard him chuckle lightly on the other end, hoping it wasn't in malice. It was far from it. Eddie was thrilled to hear hear voice and was just as excited to talk, if not more.
"So, how you been?" he asked, thinking pleasantries were most likely the best way to start their conversation.
"Good, i was actually expecting it to be Dustin on the other end!"
"Ahh, so the cat's out of the bag?" he quipped.
"If the cat is my estranged brother reaching out to tell me he found me through his much older friend who, i met a few weeks ago, then yes. It is out of the bag."
"Alright, that was a run on sentence. And i am not MUCH older, you're making it sound like i'm an old man or something!"
"You ARE an old man" she teased.
"We're the same age!!!" he loudly enunciated each word. Y/n broke out into laughter, nothing made her laugh as hard as Eddie getting frustrated during their playful banter. Despite knowing he wasn't actually offended, she wanted to ensure it.
"I'm just kidding" she said slightly out of breath from laughing.
"I know, don't get soft on me now, y/n." he assured.
"Oh i'm not, just making sure you're not secretly crying over there."
"Jeeeez, you're mean! I like it." he exclaimed, wildly grinning.
"Am not!" she replied, tone slightly raised.
"Are too!"
"Hey, don't change the subject, we can talk about Star Wars later." she said, keeping the banter alive.
Her eardrums almost burst from the cackle Eddie let out. This was a side of him she hadn't gotten the pleasure of seeing, or rather hearing, yet. His laugh was infectious and adorable, she couldn't help but giggle every time she heard it. He seemed to be getting better every time they interacted, something that was slightly bittersweet for y/n. As he composed himself, she thought of a way to steer the conversation a different direction. As much as she enjoyed kidding around with him, she wanted to get deeper.
"How are you feeling? Getting any better?" she offered, her tone coated with care.
"Pretty good, it's not set in stone yet, but they're thinking i might be able to walk outta here early next week!" he said cheerfully, as most people would hearing they could go home soon.
A knot formed in her stomach at the thought of him not being around anymore. It was selfish, she knew that but she couldn't help feeling sorrow. "That's great!" she feigned excitement.
Eddie detected the somberness in her voice and was quick to respond. "I hope you know, that doesn't mean you're getting rid of me. Not that easily! I'm like gum, once it's on your shoe, it's there for life!"
She sighed in relief, a feeling of warmth spreading through her.
"Besides," he continued, "Dustin's been hounding me nonstop to hangout all three of us and he's quite persistent."
"He gets it from our mother" she replied, matter-of-factly.
Eddie chuckled lightly. "You know, i still haven't quite registered that you two are related. It's kind of weird, in a good way."
"Oh?" she inquired.
"Yeah, i mean, don't get me wrong the kid drives me nuts, but he's like family to me. I'd do anything for him."
Oh. Dread washed over her at the possibility of Eddie seeing her the same way he saw Dustin. Simultaneously, he seemed to pick up on his unintentional insinuation and quickly attempted to fix it.
"I don't mean!... Uh.. Sorry," he blurted out flustered, searching for the right words to say. "Not that i see you like i see him, i mean he's like a brother and you're..." he trailed off once again. "It's just nice is all, to know someone as great as him." he finally managed, letting out a soft giggle.
Of their time spent together, she had never seen him struggle so much finding his words. Maybe she wasn't reading too much into what Dustin had confessed. Maybe Eddie did like her in that way.

Time spent with Eddie flew by like she had never experienced before. It was only after Margot cut their conversation short that y/n realized that she had been on the phone with him for well over an hour. In that time, she had gotten to know a little bit more about Eddie, like how he disliked mustard in all of it's forms, only learned how to ride a bike at the age of 12 and was an avid fan of Creedence Clearwater Revival due to his uncle listening to their music relentlessly. She shared a few facts about herself in that time as well, per his request.
Y/n was frustrated that their time was cut short, but held onto Eddie's promise that he'd call again tomorrow.
-
Like clockwork, the phone rang again the following day, as well as the next day, and the day after that.
Pretty soon, y/n had gotten used to expecting Eddie's call at some point in the day. She had given him an extensive break down of her daily schedules, and he made sure to write down her free times to ensure she'd pick up the phone when he'd call.
It was on their 3rd phone conversation that the topic of her extended stay was brought up, Eddie's curiosity getting the best of him. As much as she detested the topic, she knew it would come up again at some point. They had gotten to know one another pretty well and she felt closer and more comfortable with him than she'd ever felt with anyone else. She knew it was time to tell him the truth; no matter how raw it was. Opening up came easier to her once Eddie spoke about his background and what he had been through.
Eddie's life had been anything but easy from the moment he had been born. His mother's pregnancy was unplanned and slightly unwanted, at least on his father's part. His parents were very young, having both just turned 22. They were far from financially stable, and knew adding a new member to their family would worsen their situation. Despite this, Eddie's mother stood her ground and spoke her truth; she wanted to keep the baby and would not be talked out of it. This put a strain on their relationship and it became tumultuous over time. His father grew spiteful as time went on and took to alcohol to numb his frustration.
Eddie's father was constantly putting his mother through hell, from his sporadic outbursts to his unexplained disappearances that would last for days at a time. He eventually lost his job due to his erratic behavior and many missed shifts, leaving her with the huge responsibility of making ends meet. She worked well into her pregnancy, eventually being forced to take a leave; her bulging stomach preventing her from accomplishing most tasks at her job.
Luckily, she had her brother to rely on. At first, her pride prevented her from reaching out for help, but when their bills started to pile up, she had no other choice. Eddie's mother was very close to her brother, this made it much more difficult for her to ask for help. Being the youngest, she always felt this need to prove herself and to be self-sufficient. Wayne on the other hand was always looking out for her, feeling immensely protective over his younger sibling. The truth is, he never liked Eddie's father. Upon meeting him, he had this gut-wrenching feeling that the kid was bad news. And boy, was he ever right.
Although protective, Wayne isn't the type to overstep and likes to avoid confrontation as much as possible. He kept a close eye on them as the years passed, and sadly, wasn't surprised when his sister reached out to him reluctantly filling him in on the turmoil she had been going through over the last 8 months.
At the time, Wayne was working two jobs in hopes of saving up enough money for his dream car; a 1966 Chevvy Impala. He had racked up quite the savings and was only a few hundred dollars short of being able to afford it. Those dreams were put on the back burner following his conversation with his sister, as he redirected his focus onto supporting her and his expected nephew.
Wayne never really wanted kids, in fact, he wasn't overly fond of them. That all seemed to change the moment Eddie was born. Unsurprisingly, his father was absent on the day his mother's water broke, which resulted in Wayne being by her side the entire time. He was also the first person to hold Eddie as he took his first few breaths. In that moment, Wayne vowed to always protect him, no matter the cost.
He pleaded with his sister to leave Eddie's father, even offering them a place to stay in his tiny 1 bedroom apartment, but it was no use. Eddie's mother was hopeful, she felt that when his father held his son for the first time, he would turn a new leaf, wanting to better himself for their family. After recovering in the hospital for a few days, Wayne reluctantly drove her back to their shared apartment and made her promise to call him everyday. That promise was kept, but she bent the truth more times than she could count.
With every interaction they had and the countless times that Wayne asked her if things had gotten better, her lies became more distant from the truth. Eddie's father came home after a grueling 5 days away, whiskey bottle in hand, the smell of alcohol littering the air of each room he'd walk into. His mother greeted him with open arms, wanting nothing more than for the father of her child to meet his precious little one. She was met with heartbreak and disappointment when all he did was glance at him in a less than pleased manner and lock himself into their bedroom where he stayed for the remainder of the night. Luckily she had moved Eddie's crib into the living room while she prepared food for herself.
The next morning, after being forced to sleep on the couch, she was woken up by the sound of slamming doors and footsteps. As she groggily got up from the sofa, she noticed that many of their belongings were missing. Eddie's father had been packing his truck and despite his mother's pleas, left within the hour. He had made it abundantly clear that if she decided to go through with the pregnancy, he wouldn't be in the picture. His words proved to be true up until Eddie turned 2.
His mother hadn't heard from him in all this time, and was dumbfounded when he showed up at her doorstep. She was met with apologies and false promises, knowing all too well his patterns of behavior. Despite every nerve in her body signaling for her to shut the door in his face, she craved a better life and some form of normalcy for Eddie, not wanting to deprive him of his father. Reluctantly, she put aside her feeling of dread and gave his father a second chance. Once again, he had managed to charm and weasel his way back into their lives with false promises, broken within days of him being back into the house.
His father's battle with addiction had only worsened in the time he was away; his sudden reappearance a desperate attempt at seeking shelter and money to further his substance abuse. Eddie's mother was unaware of this at the time, his lies and deception were all too convincing. Perhaps she had been naïve, but Eddie likes to think she just had a big heart. His mother was very giving and would do anything for those she loved; a trait that later proved to be fatal.
It wasn't long after his father's return that what little savings she had, were drained, leaving their little family once again ridden with the struggles of poverty. When Eddie reached the age of 5, his mother reached a breaking point. Her previous frustration over their financial situation was overshadowed by pure, unadulterated rage when she discovered a series of deep blue markings on her son. She had noticed Eddie had become much more detached from his father, afraid even. His mother was no stranger to physical abuse at the hand of her partner, and once she realized that Eddie was now at the receiving end of it, she had had enough.
She put up with a lot, too much really. But the moment she found out that Eddie was suffering the same fate as her, she was done. A true mama bear, she packed up all of their belongings and left that same day, giving him a taste of his own medicine. She left him a dingy old sofa and a crappy frying pan, which was more than he deserved really, and thanked her lucky stars that he was out of the house during the process.
Once again seeking solace from her brother, who welcomed them into his home with open arms, they had finally escaped the wrath of his father. Eddie never saw him again.
Their peace was short lived following a well overdue medical appointment. Eddie's mom had been sick for quite some time, but without the funds or free time to see her doctor, she was never able to seek treatment until it was too late. Her diagnosis was terminal and she passed away a few days short of Eddie's 11th birthday.
His mother's passing brought Eddie and Wayne closer together. Without his father in the picture, his uncle became his legal guardian and formed him into the man he is today. Eddie spoke very highly of his uncle who, funny enough, shared the same name as y/n's current guardian. They bonded over that fact and compared anecdotes and stories of each other's 'Wayne's.
Hearing about Eddie's past and seeing him come out of it as such an incredible person had y/n in awe. Although the story was heart wrenching, she admired his strength and felt immense compassion and care for him. She felt safe with him, and knew that he wouldn't treat her differently after hearing what she had gone through. With a heavy sigh, she began sharing her story.
Prior to their divorce, y/n's father was abusive towards her and her mother. Claudia would often face the majority of it, but when she was out of the house, Oscar's attention would be redirected to his daughter. This went on up until the divorce, and began again when she was forced to move back with her father when he won the custody battle.
Whilst living with her father, she tried to keep busy away from home as much as she could, but this proved to be challenging as Oscar had set a strict curfew that unfortunately lined up with the peak time of his drinking. She would often come home to her intoxicated father, and would once again be met with his wrath. Sadly, she became quite good at making up lies for the markings on her body, and over time learned how to cover them up with the help of makeup.
The abuse and drinking seemed to let up a little after he met his second wife, a woman named Beverly who worked at a dental office. They spent the majority of their time together out of the house, leaving y/n to her own devices. Albeit her time alone did become rather lonesome, she preferred it over them being home. Her step mother never really took to her and didn't shy away from letting it known. Beverly would constantly torment her, the mental abuse taking it's toll over time. Her cruelness left a mark on y/n and with her father chiming in with further hurtful words, it eventually led to her first attempt.
She felt guilty, not wanting to subject her father to the grief that comes with losing a loved one but her inner demons overshadowed those feelings. While in the hospital, the guilt returned accompanied by immense sadness. She hoped that her father was doing alright and couldn't wait to see him again. That feeling went away mere seconds after stepping into her house upon being released from the hospital. She was met with a cold greeting, her weekly absence seemingly gone unnoticed by her father who hadn't bothered to visit her after the first day of her stay.
It appeared he had started drinking again. Empty liquor bottles littered their home and Beverly was no where in sight. The house felt cold and empty, there was trash on nearly every surface and a stale smell lingering in the air. Beverly liked to keep a clean home, the mess was an indicator that she hadn't been there for quite some time. Y/n tried to speak to her father, but all he could slur were hurtful words blaming her for his wife's departure. Apparently it was all too much for her to handle, an inconvenience to put it in her words. She refused to return to the home while y/n was still around and instead of defending his daughter, Oscar grew resentful of her.
His old pattern of abuse began once again, further pushing her to the edge. For years now, she had suffered through the mental, physical and emotional abuse at the hand of her father and his spouse. What little confidence she had was torn down further worsening her sense of self-worth. She had been reduced to a shell of a human and couldn't bare to feel this way anymore. The prior sense of guilt was gone, her second attempt was fueled by a deep longing for peace. She didn't want to hurt anymore. Her father's lack of responsiveness the first time also led her to believe that the world would be better off without her. Sure, a few of her friends would mourn, but she felt that as time went on, they would heal from the loss and soon forget.
The events of that night were what led to her extended stay, which proved to be beneficial for her. She hadn't spoken to her father in months, and quite frankly she had no desire to. Much like Eddie, she was content with his absence, accepting that not all broken relationships need to be mended. The truth is, she had found the peace that she was so desperately seeking. It wasn't the bitter ending she was hoping for but rather a shift in her life. A new beginning with better people, specifically the arrival of a 6 foot metal head.

Chapter 2
It wasn’t long after witnessing the police and paramedics storming through the hallways that y/n was ushered away to her scheduled afternoon group therapy session. She normally participated a lot and contributed to the conversations, but today was different. She was so intrigued by the earlier events that had unfolded before her that she was really struggling to focus on the mundane discourse that her daily discussions entailed. It’s safe to say, today’s session was a write off.
Once the discussion concluded, she didn’t waste a second getting out of the there to rush back to her unit, in search of Wayne. She was hoping he could provide more details on the mysterious patient her mind was consumed by. Despite the strict privacy policy the hospital enforced, Wayne and y/n we’re close and would often discuss the latest hospital gossip together. Although they did enjoy discussing the events that would take place, whenever y/n would inquire about an incident, Wayne would always refrain from using names, not wanting to leak sensitive information. She admired that about him and thought it was quite respectful. He showed more discretion than most of the staff did.
While making her rounds around the unit, she finally caught up to him in the hallway.
“Wayne! Hi!” She blurted out at the first sight of him.
“Good afternoon, y/n. Quite the energy you’ve got today!” He replied, a bit wide-eyed. “How was your group session?” He asked, somewhat perplexed by her eagerness.
“Good, we uh… It was good!”
He gave her a bit of a smirk, accompanied by a side eye. “That’s good to hear!”
As Wayne started to turn away, redirecting his attention to the clipboard he was holding, probably wanting to complete some forms he would often be working on, y/n interjected again.
“So uh, apparently there was some commotion over in the emergency department earlier today!” Dang… That came off more abruptly than she had hoped it would.
“Oh?” Wayne responded, his curiosity getting the best of him as he set down the clipboard on the nearest table.
“You didn’t hear?” y/n continued “Apparently a ton of police officers rushed into the ER with paramedics and a patient!”
Wayne looked perplexed, which wasn’t a good sign. Usually he would entertain y/n with additional information he had on the matter, but this time, he didn’t seem to know anything about this incident.
Crap. She was really hoping to learn more.
“That is interesting, you’ll have to fill me in when you hear more about it!” He said, picking the clipboard up from the table and smiling before redirecting his attention to the paper.
A dead end. Maybe y/n would have better luck hearing about what happened through the grapevine.
_
The next few days were rather uneventful. Same routine, different day. Y/n was starting to lose interest and forget about the incident, until she overheard a couple of nurses quietly talking by the water fountain near her room.
“I can’t believe they finally caught him!”
“Well, it’s about time, could you imagine what more he could have done had he still been on the run!”
Her eyes shot up from the book she was reading and she froze, focusing all her attention on the conversation that was being held no less than 10 feet from her room.
“I just don’t feel safe with him here, did you hear what he did to that poor cheerleader? It’s only a matter of time before he does that to one of us.”
Suddenly, it clicked.
Eddie Munson.
She remembered initially hearing about this story.
Although there weren’t any televisions in her unit, Wayne was pretty good at keeping her up to date on the latest news around town. The most recent buzz worthy story she had been informed on was that of Eddie Munson; the suspected cult leader of Hawkins, wanted for the murder of Chrissy Cunningham.
She was genuinely at a loss for words. I mean, it’s not everyday you hear about a crime of this caliber happening in your hometown, especially involving a suspect you know. From what she had heard from Wayne, the media was in a frenzy, perpetuating so many narratives on Eddie Munson and this so-called cult he was running.
Y/n had gone to school with Eddie, in fact, they were the same age. She first became familiar with him in their history class where he was sitting across from her.
Sure, Eddie was eccentric, but he was certainly no murderer. At least, as far as she could tell. She couldn’t remember what was said, but they had exchanged a few words from time to time, most likely regarding homework assignments, to which he was always very kind and forthright. She couldn’t help but think that these rumors of him being affiliated with satanism were most likely due to his interest in playing Dungeons and Dragons, as well as his fondness of metal music.
Now, it had been a long time since y/n had played D&D, and her memory of the rules were rather hazy, but she did remember what pleasure and fun she had playing the game at the time. She was also a metal enthusiast, having quite the cassette tape collection. This allowed her to empathize with Eddie, as she had experienced firsthand the judgment and disapproval that came with listening to this kind of music. Despite this, she had to admit, she couldn’t truly put herself in Eddie’s shoes as her interest in metal music was more of a well-kept secret, only discovered by her parents overhearing the tunes coming from her bedroom speakers, or her friends spotting the Iron Maiden cassette tape playing on her Walkman.
Through her similar experiences and brief encounters with him, she had a hard time believing Eddie was capable of such atrocities and instead, wrote it off as a product of the Satanic Panic. He was, after all, the perfect candidate for such accusations. From his bold, provocative appearance and personality to his non-conforming interests, it was no surprise he was the target of such hate.
Her ears were peeled more than ever as she started getting up from her bed to carefully walk towards the door, hoping to get more information from the conversation going on regarding Eddie.
“If that Manson kid even steps foot near me, I swear I’ll-“
“Munson” y/n blurted out. As the words left her lips, she realized that she had intended for his name to remain an internal thought.
The nurses turned over quickly; eyes as wide as can be.
“What was that, dear?” One asked, trying to play it off as if they hadn't just been caught gossiping about a patient.
“His name is Munson I’m pretty sure, not Manson…” She sheepishly said, cursing her tongue for betraying her in a moment that was meant to be strictly observatory.
The nurses quickly exchanged glances before parting ways, leaving y/n alone to wonder what the full story was, and how this so-called “murderer” ended up here in such a battered state.

Chapter 6
Y/n barely made it back on time, but by sheer luck, she breached the unit doors with a minute to spare. She was able to sneak by the front desk, the nurses still buzzing around like an angry beehive. The filing problem had now apparently spread to her unit. She spotted Wayne, fingers pressed up against his temple, looking as stressed as ever. She slowed her pace in hopes that he would spot her walking in, potentially relieving some of the stress he was feeling, but he was in his own world, and she thought it might be best to leave him to it.
Once she got to her room, she plopped down on her bed, laying on her back facing the ceiling. Oddly enough, the first thought that popped into her mind was her earlier interaction with Eddie. It was odd how such a short meaningless conversation left her feeling so giddy inside. She couldn’t get his smile out of her head. He had such a nice smile…
Her thoughts were interrupted by Wayne bursting through her room eyes wide like a mad man. “YOU’RE HERE!”
“Of course, where else would I be?” She quickly responded sitting up.
He let out a snicker, shook his head and retreated to the front desk.
-
Over the course of the next few days, y/n couldn’t get her mind off of Eddie. Although not much was said in their previous interaction, she was left wanting to know more about him. Her curiosity moving past his reason for being here; she wanted to get to know him personally.
Y/n knew she couldn’t do that with Wayne following her every move, so she started getting crafty, coming up with different excuses to evade him. These excuses ranged from wanting to quickly grab a snack from the vending machine to sudden urgencies to go to the lady’s room, which Wayne knew better than to question. Although it did take a few tries, she did eventually persuade him to let her go on her own. Despite only being allotted a few minutes, it was better than nothing.
The first few times she was able to pay a visit to Room 234 didn’t amount to anything, as Eddie was either fast asleep or in the presence of a nurse. It wasn’t until her fifth attempt that she yielded results.
Y/n wasn’t a shy person per-se, but she found herself particularly nervous as she passed by his room and met his gaze. Normally, she had no problem conversing with people and making small talk, but this was different. She didn’t care for the pointless mundane topics that would normally play out while speaking to strangers, she wanted more. Her and Eddie exchanged smiles, but before she could come up with something pertinent to say, words were already spilling out of her mouth, seemingly without her knowledge or consent; “Do you like pretzels?” she blurted out.
‘What the hell was that?!’ she scolded herself.
Eddie’s initial timid smile broke into a wide-eyed grin and was accompanied by a chuckle. “Uh, yeah! They’re up there on the quality snack scale” he replied, amused by her random question.
“Cool, uh, wait here!” she said, clearly not registering the fact that he was essentially bed-ridden.
Before waiting for his response or reaction, she ushered over to the nearest vending machine only to find that she was 5 cents short. ‘Are you kidding me…’
She bolted up the stairs to the 3rd floor, seemingly forgetting about Wayne as she ran into him waiting for her at the last spot she had abandoned him at. She was caught off guard by his presence and he could tell.
“Woah, what’s going on, you see a ghost or something?” he joked, trying to lighten her frantic mood.
“I’m 5 cents short! I need a bag of pretzels!” she blurted out, urgency in her voice.
“Uh, well I don’t have change on me, sorry kiddo.” Wayne said apologetically.
“That’s okay, I have money in my room, I’ll just go get it!” she quickly responded, starting towards her unit.
“Well, you’ve only got about 2 minutes left for today’s walk, so what do you say we leave it to tomorrow?” he said, following her back to the ward.
She stopped in her tracks, dread overcoming her before reluctantly making her way back. ‘Has it really been 30 minutes…’.
-
The next day, y/n left no room for error, as she brought her entire wallet with her on her walk. Sneaking away from Wayne was easy given that she had expressed the need for pretzels yesterday and hadn’t put up a fight when he suggested getting them today instead. She booked it to the second floor, only to find the vending machine out of order. ‘Is this some sort of sick joke…’ she thought to herself, irritation building in her chest. The other vending machine was all the way across the other side of the 2nd floor, forcing her to sprint once more trying to save as much time as possible before having to go back to her room. Luckily, this one was working and holding the precious goods, pretzels.
After pushing a few buttons and feeding her money into the machine, she grabbed the bag and made her way back to the other side of the unit.
Once there, she paused to catch her breath before walking up to Eddie’s room. He was watching TV, before redirecting his attention to her and saying “Hey! I thought you had forgotten about me.”
A bashful smile washed over her, and heat rushed to her cheeks. “I got you something!” she said, raising the pretzel bag up so he could see. She made her way over to his bed to hand him the snack.
“So the pretzel question wasn’t an ice breaker?” he asked accompanied by a chuckle “May I ask what I did to deserve this treat?”
“Trust me, these pretzels are about as good as you’re gonna get nutrition-wise around here” she responded.
He snorted, apparently well aware of the questionable food provided by the hospital. “Well thank you, I’m sure these will be easier on the stomach than that dreadful soup they give out for lunch.”
“I’ve always wondered why it’s slightly grey in color” she said with a disgusted look on her face.
“Right?? What’s up with that??” he exclaimed, his expression a combination of concern and amusement.
A burst of laughter overcame them, as they were both painfully familiar with the unpleasant taste and appearance of this infamous soup. Once their laughter died down, y/n saw this as a good opportunity to re-introduce herself.
“I’m y/n” she said, holding out her hand for a shake.
“I’m Eddie” he replied, meeting her hand with his.
“I know, we went to school together” she said “but we only had a couple of classes together and I looked pretty different back then, so I doubt you remember me”
He was focused, scanning her features. Y/n could feel her cheeks burning once again and was trying to divert her attention to anything else in the room in an effort to control her involuntary blushing.
“It’s okay if you don’t remember me!" she started "I’m sorry, I wasn’t trying to put you on the spot or anything! I’m pretty forgettable anyways so I am not offended at all if you don’t remember me- “
“Why do you think that?” he interjected.
“What?”
“Why do you think you’re forgettable?”
Her face flushed “Oh, well you know, there’s so many other interesting people around that are more memorable than me, I don’t know, I-“
“I remember you” he started “Mr. Gregory’s history class, right?”
Her head turned to face him, a smile growing on her face. “Remember how gnarly his mustache was?” she said giggling.
"Yes! Ever since I laid eyes on that thing I’ve been plagued with the sad reality that I can never grow one that glorious.” He quipped.
“At least you’ve got the hair to compensate, he can’t say the same.”
Laughter broke out again between the two. Y/n was so caught up in her conversation with Eddie that she had forgotten for a moment that she was due back to her unit any minute now. Sorrow set in as she prepared to head back up the flight of stairs to the 3rd floor.
“Well, I’ve gotta get going but, I’ll see you around?” she asked, hopeful.
“You know where to find me” he responded, eyes shimmering and a charming smile on his lips.

Chapter 5
Order had been restored, and y/n couldn’t be happier. Her and Wayne were closer than ever, and she noticed a significant improvement in her overall mood since being granted the privilege to go for walks again. Everyday at varying times, she would meet with Wayne by the front desk, changing up the location of their strolls based on how she felt that day. The third floor was deemed the quiet floor. It was shared between the maternity ward and her unit, so if she felt like a more calming environment where she had an excuse not to talk, that would be her go to.
The second floor was usually more rambunctious, it was essentially just a bunch of rooms for patients in stable conditions usually there for a short stay. This floor saw a lot of traffic, and the overall atmosphere was very chipper as patients’ families and friends were permitted to visit. The second floor was also home to many older patients, who y/n loved conversing with. They were always so charming and friendly. This floor also had the most vending machines, and arguably the best snacks. She was a sucker for salty treats and never turned down the opportunity to get a bag of pretzels along the way.
Despite being overjoyed about her recent schedule change, she couldn’t help but notice just how quickly 30 minutes passed. Before her recreation time was cut short, she would sometimes be out and about for over an hour.
‘Be grateful.’ She kept reminding herself.
-
One morning, while doing laps around the 3rd floor with Wayne, an unfamiliar sound interrupted their conversation. Y/n was searching for the source of this repetitive jarring sound and realized it was a pager going off. Startled by the sudden shrill beeping, it took a second for Wayne to realize the sound was coming from his pocket.
“Oh, geez. I always forget I have this thing” he chuckled, grabbing it from his pocket and attempting to work the device. “They really don’t make navigation easy on it either… Um…” He pushed a few bottoms before he finally got it to stop beeping and paused to read the message.
He took a sharp breath in, before turning to y/n. “You’re gonna kill me...”
She was caught off guard by his sudden change in demeanor and reluctantly followed him as he started inching away from her, heading towards the elevator. She squinted her eyes at him as she waited for him to finish his sentence.
“We’re gonna have to cut today’s walk short.” Y/n could tell he was bracing himself for her reaction as he stared at her, scrunching his face in anticipation.
“What?? Why?? We’ve barely been out for 10 minutes!” She protested.
“I knoooow, I’m so sorry, there’s some kind of filing emergency going on, I-” He threw his arms up and rolled his eyes, aware of how dramatic this sounded.
“You’re kidding… Wayne that’s-“
“Y/n... Please don’t make this harder than it needs to be. I’m already mentally preparing for the mayhem waiting for me. The ladies working the ER reception scare me and I’ll never hear the end of it if I don’t get there pronto.”
Y/n chuckled, the thought of a 6’3, burly man being afraid of a small group of short middle-aged women was ironic. She knew exactly what he meant though, those ladies were very intense in the face of adversities. Just as she was about to admit defeat and step into the elevator, she stopped in her tracks. An idea popped into her head.
“What if I kept walking and meet you back at the unit?” She suggested in a nonchalant tone.
“What? No, absolutely not, hop in.” he said, gesturing to the elevator.
“Why not? We’ve established the floors I’m allowed to be on and there’s been no reason to believe that there’s any prevalent danger. What’s the worst that could happen?”
“I lose my job???” he exclaimed, giving her the side eye. “Losing a patient in the hospital isn’t exactly something I want to be known for around here. It’s not happening, now come on.” He walked onto the elevator and held the doors open by blocking the censors with one hand.
“Or…” y/n continued “I get my 30 minutes of allowed time to walk around and am back before anyone even notices!”
“Would you just get onto the elevator!!” Wayne’s anxiety was getting the best of him, she could tell. She wasn’t proud of this next move, but she knew how to get him to agree.
“Please Wayne… When have I ever given you a reason not to trust me.” Out came the puppy dog eyes and pout.
“Don’t. You. Dare.” He warned, knowing damn well she knew he had a soft spot for her guilt tripping tactics.
“20 more minutes. Just this once. I’ll be back before you know it. Please…” A last-ditch attempt that seemed to have worked. A few seconds later, Wayne sighed and removed his arm from the doorway of the elevator.
“If you’re not back in the time it takes to watch a Golden Girls episode…” He trailed off, interrupted by the doors closing in front of him.
Just before they shut, y/n yelped out “I won’t let you down!!”.
The second she lost sight of him, y/n didn’t waste a second shuffling away from the elevator. Wayne was putting a lot of trust in her, and she had no intentions of letting him down. Feeling a rush of excitement, she thought ‘Why not switch it up.’
She had been taking her walks mainly on the 3rd floor over the last few days, and with this sudden burst of energy, she felt prepared to handle the liveliness the 2nd floor had to offer. She high-tailed it down the stairwell, finally reaching the door with a big “2” painted on the wall and swung it open. She was met with slight disappointment when she arrived.
Crickets. You could hear a pin drop. It was a bit of an eerie feeling, seeing a normally active room so quiet, void of life. Why wasn’t anyone around? Of all her time spent at this hospital, she had never seen this floor be so quiet. She wandered around and happened upon a calendar. Monday.
Had she never been down here on a Monday morning? The lack of visitors made sense, most people were still at work or school at this time. ‘This is fine’ she started convincing herself. ‘When life gives you lemons…’
Free of judgmental stares or the possibility of bothering people, y/n took the current state of the floor as a sign to be her most authentic self. She let her body lead the way, and started swaying as she walked, alternating between skipping and running.
The only thing that could make this experience better was music. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to sway the staff into letting her bring her Walkman with her during her stay, so she was left with the memory of her music library to get her by. Her mind jukebox, as she often called it. Y/n was very passionate about music and could often be heard humming quietly to herself.
Today was no different, the lack of normal chatter from the visitors made for the perfect acoustics in the hallways, her voice reverberating against the empty hallway walls. As she walked past a room near the back of the unit, she heard a faint hoarse voice. “Black Sabbath?”
She quickly scanned the room trying to assess who this voice belonged to, only for her eyes to land on none other than Eddie Munson. He was laying in a bed looking a little beat up, Jell-o cup in hand with a shy look on his face.
It had been weeks since she had heard any news updates about him, and despite knowing he was being treated here, she was still surprised to find him no less than 5 feet away.
“Air Dance” she responded with a soft smile.
“That’s arguably their worst song” he replied with a little grin on his face. Her eyes grew wider, and she let out a scoff. Normally, y/n hated snobby self proclaimed music enthusiasts, but she could tell by the smile radiating from his face that this wasn’t the kind of comment intended to be rude or start an argument. It was rather an invitation to some playful banter.
“It happens to be my favorite song” she stated matter-of-factly, raising an eyebrow as she took a few steps forward, now standing in the door frame of his room.
“I guess we can’t all have good taste” he said in a playfully challenging tone.
Before y/n could come up with a clever response, she was shooed away by one of the nurses entering the room, presumably to tend to Eddie. He was still hooked up to a few machines and had pretty noticeable injuries.
She slowly backed out of the room and into the hallway, her face flushed with color over this short but sweet interaction she had just had.
As she turned to start walking back to her unit, only a few minutes left to spare before she’d be late, she could have sworn seeing through her peripheral vision, that Eddie never took his eyes off her.

Chapter 3
The next day started off like any other, y/n was getting ready to embark on her daily walk following lunch when she was stopped by one of the nurses on her unit, Margot. Y/n wouldn’t go as far as saying she disliked Margot, but she certainly wasn’t fond of the way she spoke to her sometimes. Margot was an older woman who had recently been transferred to this hospital from her old position in a nearby town. She meant well on most days, but came off abrupt at times and wasn’t a fan of rule breaking or inconsistencies in the daily operations.
“Sorry dear, no more walks until further notice.” She said, dryly from her desk.
Y/n paused, she wasn’t one to challenge authority, but she couldn’t help but question this sudden wrench that was thrown into her plan.
“Did I do something wrong?” She asked.
Margot’s eye shot up from her desk “There will be no more unsupervised dilly-dallying around the hospital. There is a safety risk in effect, and I have no interest in filling out more paperwork than I’ve already got on my hands. Now please, I’m sure you can find something else to do to keep you busy.”
Y/n frowned, ‘safety hazard?’ she thought. ‘Were they referring to Eddie?’
Not wanting to further upset Margot, she redirected her path to the common room within her unit and took a seat on a sofa.
‘Okay… Now I really need to figure out what’s going on…’
-
Over the next few days, y/n was able to gather more information on what had presumably happened to Eddie. Most of the information was from the staff gossiping, which, if she was honest with herself, probably wasn’t the most reliable source. But regardless, it was information, and it brought her one step closer to figuring out what had happened: Suspected killer Eddie Munson had finally been apprehended and was in serious but stable condition. No one knew how he had sustained such injuries, but from what she had heard, he had gone through extensive surgeries and was in a medically induced coma.
It had been quite some time now since y/n had been allowed to leave her unit, but she could see from her bedroom window the commotion that was constantly occurring outside. She had never seen so many reporter vans and police cars crammed into one space, and she could only imagine the chaos unfolding on the lower levels of the hospital. The media was in a frenzy, clinging onto any new details they could get their greedy hands on.
Y/n hated the mob mentality that came with news reporting. She especially hated The Hawkins Post and how low they would stoop to fulfill their daily quota for what they considered ‘news’.
Despite the reporters not giving up, camping out everyday, the public slowly started to lose interest over time due to the lack of pertinent new information. Y/n was hearing less and less people talking about it and soon, she had accepted the fact that she may very well never know the full story. At least not while she was stuck in her unit.
God, she hated feeling trapped. She hadn’t realized up until this point just how much she cherished her daily strolls. It wasn’t just the freedom of roaming that brought her joy, but also the warm feeling she would get in her heart whenever she would walk past a new face and exchange smiles. Y/n was a fairly outgoing person and really enjoyed human interaction. This was a characteristic most of the patients in her unit did not share, which made for her time there quite lonesome. Sure, she got along with the staff, but she didn’t want to take up too much of their time. They were on the clock after all…
The unit’s scheduled daily activities kept her busy, but they felt more like homework than pastimes. The feeling of restlessness was starting to overcome her, and she knew she had to do something about it. Perhaps she could pick up a new hobby? That was easier said than done. The hospital was quite strict on what they allowed patients to bring in with them, limiting everyone to essential items only. At this point she had read most of the books provided by her unit and visiting hours had been put on hold due to the current events unfolding.
‘How do they expect us to live like this’ She thought to herself.
Suddenly, it clicked. ‘Maybe if I talk to Wayne, I can convince him to accompany me on my walks’
It was worth a shot, wasn’t it? The worse he would say was no, but she felt that she had a good chance at winning him over.
She hopped out of bed making her way towards the hallway, but before she could execute her plan, an announcement could be heard overhead. “Lights out”.
‘Huh…’ time had escaped her, and she hadn’t realized how late it was.
She reluctantly got back into bed after turning off the light in her room; her plan will have to wait until morning.

Chapter 4
Daybreak shined through the windows of the 3rd floor unit, gradually waking y/n up from a deep sleep. She let out a groan and rolled over, hoping to catch some more rest. Much of the previous night was spent tossing and turning, anxiously anticipating whether her conversation with Wayne would yield positive results. She didn’t know why she was so nervous; Wayne wasn’t the type to get upset over something so trivial. Despite being drowsy and ready to keep snoozing, she was jolted awake when she heard a familiar voice coming from down the hall.
“Up and at ‘em! Greet the day, folks!”
WAYNE.
He was doing his morning rounds, going from room to room, handing out breakfast and medication to each patient, respectably.
This worked out perfectly. In her clouded, anxiety ridden mind, she had completely forgotten that he would be the first person she would interact with this morning. She shot up from bed and quickly put on her house coat and slippers before sitting down on the edge of her bed, just in time for him to reach her room.
“Goood morning, y/n. Here’s what’s on the menu: strawberry yogurt with a side of orange juice and your daily dose of happy pills!” He said in a sing-song-y kind of way.
“Thanks” she said with a warm smile, letting out a soft chuckle as she grabbed the tray from him.
Given that the hospital policy was strict about the staff collecting all the trays from the patients before leaving their rooms, y/n saw this as the perfect opportunity to buy more time with Wayne. Their morning interactions usually weren’t more than a minute.
She set the tray down on her nightstand and paused, trying to form her next sentence carefully.
“How’d you sleep?” Wayne asked, crossing his arms while leaning against the doorway.
‘Such a dad move’ she thought to herself, holding back a snicker.
“Fine. I had a hard time falling asleep actually…” She paused. “I wanted to ask you something.”
“Yeah? What’s that?” He responded, intrigued by her demeanor. She was trying to keep her cool but was picking at her fingers; a dead giveaway that she had a lot on her mind.
“Well,” she started “I’ve been thinking. Since the hospital’s been in a state of lockdown and it’s not deemed safe to wander alone, would you want to accompany me on my walks?”
Wayne was quiet for a few seconds, he was looking up at the ceiling, pondering. A minute passed before he said anything. “Hmm… I’m not sure that’s such a good idea.” He said, giving her a remorseful look.
“Why not?” She bit her tongue, not wanting to sound too pushy.
“Look, it’s not that I don’t want to, I know you really miss getting fresh air outside of this unit, but with everything that’s been going on, it’s probably not- “
“Wayne…” She interrupted unintentionally. Her eagerness got the best of her and the next few words that came out of her mouth were spoken in super speed. “I don’t mean to sound entitled but… What gives?! Everyone is acting like there’s some major threat and imminent danger and I’m sick of it! You can’t keep projecting this fear onto us, it’s not healthy! I mean we’re already locked up in here, can’t we have any kind of release from the shackles of our boring everyday routine?!”
Woah… that was a lot of pent up anger being released. Y/n had neglected to redirect her building frustration onto something productive and it had built up into this giant burning rage she could feel in her chest; a ticking time bomb. It was peculiar, because she didn’t realize up until this point how strongly she felt about the issue at hand.
She instantly felt regret when she looked up to see Wayne had become uneasy. He wasn’t a fan of confrontation and this was the first time they had ever had a disagreement.
“I’m sorry.” She blurted out, her eyes starting to tear up. This wasn’t the first time her emotions got the best of her, or that her tear ducts betrayed her in a moment of passion.
“Y/n…” he paused. “I’ll see what I can do, but I’m not making any promises. I don’t have control over the facility’s policies so don’t hold your breathe.”
As he started towards the hallway, she managed to let out a faint “Thank you”.
He came to a halt, turned to face her, and nodded his head. His eyes then panned over to her nightstand.
“Tray” his voice was low, but comforting, as if to let her know without speaking another word that he wasn’t upset, just caught off guard by the intensity of the conversation they just had.
She let out a weak chuckle before standing up to hand him the heavy silver tray; permission to leave granted.
-
As the week carried on, y/n was starting to think that Wayne had forgotten about her or was upset over their little dispute. Perhaps he had gotten shut down by the board of directors and didn’t have the heart to tell her. Come to think of it, she hadn’t even seen him since the incident...
‘He’s probably avoiding me,’ she thought to herself. ‘I would avoid me too following whatever the hell that outburst was.’
Her brows furrowed, thinking back at how she had reacted. She was rushed with a massive wave of embarrassment and could feel her cheeks begin to flush. She couldn’t really understand why she had such difficulties managing her emotions, nor why she would take it out on the people she cared most about.
‘Poor Wayne… I have to find him and apologize.’ At this point, she didn’t care about getting her daily walks back. She didn’t feel like she deserved them anyways following that temper tantrum. Of all the people she could have lashed out on, Wayne was the least deserving of it.
The majority of her free time that morning was spent searching for Wayne. The unit wasn’t that big, but it sure had lots of places he could be. Places that, without an access card, she couldn’t get to. Come lunch time, she was just about ready to give up her search when she spotted him at the front desk. She ushered her way over, having practiced her apology all morning. She opened her mouth about to call out his name when he looked up from the desk and greeted her with a smile. It wasn’t his usual cheerful smile which did worry her. ‘Oh he’s definitely upset with me…’ she thought, as dread washed over her. Before she could proceed with her sentence, Wayne interjected. “Hey, y/n! I was just updating Lucie here on the new regulations.”
She paused and glanced over at the young receptionist. She was so focused on making her way over to him that she hadn’t even noticed her sitting at the desk, reviewing what appeared to be a large stack of patient files.
“So uh, as I was saying,” he turned back to Lucie, glancing over at her, his eyes implying that she should pay attention. “we’ve been given the all clear to allow some of our long-term patients without significant behavioral issues to proceed with their daily preferred recreational activities, so long as they can be supervised by a staff member.” He shot a smile over at y/n before redirecting his full attention back to Lucie, silently dismissing her from the conversation.
Y/n couldn’t believe it. He did it. Her emotions were scrambled, and she was torn between feeling ecstatic and guilty. Guilty for having been so rude to Wayne when his intentions were always pure. Her train of thought was interrupted by Wayne’s voice chiming in. “Did you need something, y/n?”
She paused, took a breath and said “Actually, I was wondering if someone was available to accompany me for my afternoon walk later?”
“I’m sure we could find someone” he replied, that warm smile finding it’s way back to his lips.
-
Y/n’s afternoon therapy session couldn’t go by fast enough, she was so eager to get back to her room to meet her walking buddy for the day. She really hoped it would be Wayne.
When she finally got back to her room, there was no sign of any staff members around. She waited another 10 minutes before mild panic started to set in. “I hope they didn’t forget about me…”
She figured she would start making her way towards the doors leading out of her unit and wait there, perhaps this was meant to be their designated meeting spot. As she approached the front desk, she saw none other than Wayne, once again leaning against the wall with his arms folded against his chest.
He glanced over at her, unfolded his arms and asked “Ready?”
She couldn’t form a coherent thought with the amount of excitement that was building up in her chest, all she could manage was aggressively nodding her head yes, a wide smile spread across her face.
“Alrighty, here’s what’s going to happen: the directors weren’t willing to negotiate longer recreational times than 30 minutes to start. They want to ease patients back into this routine so that’s all you’re getting for now. The 30 minutes allotted starts right at the time your walks are scheduled, so if you’re late for any reason, the clock doesn’t stop. Got it?” His face was stern, but y/n could see in his eyes that he was putting up a front, most likely in case other staff members were around to overhear him. “They’ve also cracked down on the rules. You’re limited to the 3rd and 2nd floor for now. You are, under no circumstances, permitted to go to the 1st floor or any other ones above us. There’s still a lot of commotion going on and we do not need you getting mixed up in any of it.”
Y/n frowned, but quickly caught herself and got a hold of her emotions before Wayne could catch a glimpse of her face. ‘Would you just be grateful for once.’ She scolded herself internally.
“Your walks need to be penciled into your schedule a week ahead of time so I can review and approve them. If you’re even a day late to handing in your schedule, I can’t help ya there, kid. So please. Be punctual.” He said in a fatherly way.
The funny thing about Wayne is that he didn’t have any children of his own, but you would never be able to tell. Everything about this man just screamed “Dad”. From his bulky teddy bear like form to his lame jokes and caring personality, it’s no wonder he was loved throughout the unit.
Y/n wasn’t close with her parents, not since the incident that led to her becoming a patient here. She would never admit this to anyone, but she felt comfort in knowing that despite her parents not being in the picture, she had a parental figure in the form of her caretaker.
“So how much time have we got left now?” She quipped, a cheeky smile growing on her face.
“Watch it!” He said, wide-eyed trying to hold back laughter. A snort escaped her, and she quickly covered her mouth and nose with her hands while redirecting her gaze to her feet.
“Alright, come on, let’s get going” Wayne said, holding the door open for her with one hand, the other making repetitive gestures signaling her to exit the unit.
She quickly shuffled out of there and spent the next half hour incessantly apologizing but also expressing her gratitude and thanking Wayne.
She couldn’t believe he really did it.

Mentions of mental health struggles, SMUT (in the later chapters, 18+ to read this story), angst with a happy ending, canon-typical violence.

Chapter 11
Warnings
This chapter mentions anxiety, panic attacks and abusive parental relationships. (Nothing too crazy or descriptive, mainly mental abuse, hurtful words, that kind of thing.) Brief mention of addiction.
_
Every so often, usually on a monthly basis, patients from the ward were permitted to spend a day outside of the unit, so long as their request was approved. Gaining such privilege required a guardian or close friend to spend the day with the patient to ensure their safety and return to the unit. Given these requirements, it wasn’t often that y/n would put in a request given that she didn’t have many close friends and was estranged from her parents. An opportunity did present itself one evening when she received a call from someone she hadn’t heard from in years; her brother, Dustin Henderson.
-
Y/n and Dustin were very close growing up, despite having different fathers. They shared the same mother, Claudia, a saint in everyone’s eyes.
It all began when Claudia met y/n’s father back in the early 60’s, the exact date obscure due to Claudia being reserved and apprehensive of speaking about the relationship. Y/n was born out of wedlock, which was probably for the best. She couldn’t remember much of her childhood years spent with her father, likely due to her brain blocking that part of her life out. Her mother had told her tales of him, often alluding to the abuse she faced being the reason the relationship ended so abruptly.
One of her fonder memories was the arrival of Mark Henderson. He provided comfort and love that she had been so desperately missing from her father, and it was only two years later that Dustin arrived. He was a bundle of joy from the moment he was born, and together they were the perfect family. Despite only being 5 years old, y/n instantly took to Dustin and jumped at every opportunity to spend time with him. As he reached 2 years old, Claudia and Mark tied the knot, bringing the family closer together. It was all so perfect; too good to be true.
The older y/n and Dustin grew, the more they bonded. The fact that y/n’s father was out of the picture never put a strain on their relationship, and Dustin never made her feel bad for it. It wasn’t her fault of course; she could barely remember her father’s voice at the time or their last interaction. The family of four were well established in New Hampshire when Mark acquired a new job opportunity in Hawkins, Indiana. The move would certainly be difficult given that the children were in school at this point, but the pay raise made it worth the while.
Everything came crashing down once y/n’s father, Oscar, received the news. Despite not trying to get into contact with her once over the last 7 years, he simply could not accept that fact that she might be moving 15 hours away. Her father was rather unstable in every aspect of his life. He couldn't hold down a job, often being fired for stealing or not showing up and took to drugs and alcohol as a release. Oscar never treated his so-called ‘loved ones’ kindly and was quite possessive. This drove him to interfere with the family’s move, filing a lawsuit against Claudia claiming she wasn’t a fit mother and demanding full custody of y/n. Claudia, not having the funds to dispute these claims by going to court, was forced to sign the full custody agreement.
The family was heartbroken. Despite not being a good parent, Oscar came from a wealthy family and had significantly more money than Claudia, allowing him to be granted full custody. Y/n's mom could only hope that her daughter, being only 9 years old at the time, would be well taken care of. While she was forced to stay behind as her family moved away, y/n was left with only a promise to keep in touch. This promise was fulfilled for the first few months, but as time went on, her father made communications much more difficult and scarcer, not allowing her to visit or even call them at times. He would often interfere with Claudia's attempts to contact her daughter, and cut the phone conversations short, until finally, he refused to let y/n speak to her mom altogether, claiming that the long-distance phone calls and frequent trips to Hawkins were too expensive.
The older she grew, the more she protested, eventually being able to persuade her father into moving closer to her family, ultimately ending up in Hawkins themselves. By this point, y/n hadn't spoken to or seen her family in over 5 years. Once in Hawkins, her anxiety got the best of her, and she was apprehensive about reaching out, fearing rejection. Despite being closer than ever, proximity wise, she had never felt more distant from her family. Wanting to preserve her fond memories and prevent further heartbreak, she decided to keep to herself and allow her family to keep thinking she lived miles away.
Oscar met his new wife shortly after their move, who unimaginably turned out to be worse than him. Feeding off each other’s toxic behaviors, y/n frequently found herself on the receiving end of it. Her father became more erratic, his behavior unpredictable. It certainly didn’t help that his wife would constantly egg him on and plant ideas in his head. Ideas fueled by jealousy and malice towards y/n. For whatever reason, she never liked y/n, constantly blaming her for Oscar’s battle with addiction and treating her poorly.
This continued well into y/n’s adolescent years, eventually leading up to her hospitalization. With home life being rocky, her only escape seemed to be school, which wasn’t much better. The sad truth was, she only ever felt at home while in her unit.
Once she was of age, she was able to gather up enough money to move out of her father's home, finding a small, dilapidated one bedroom apartment. The neighborhood was rough around the edges, and she certainly didn't feel safe walking alone at night, but the rent was cheap, and she found comfort in having her own space away from Oscar and his wife. Given her current mental state, she didn't spend much time at home anyway, the unit being her main place of residency for the past few weeks.
-
It was about 7pm when one of the front desk clerks advised y/n that she had received a call. This came as a surprise to her and the staff since she rarely received phone calls. Puzzled, she got out of bed and headed towards the communal phone receiver to take the call.
“Did they say who it was?” she asked before unhooking the phone from the wall.
“No idea honey, they seemed pretty young though.” The nurse responded.
‘Young?’ she thought. Racking her brain, trying to figure out the identity of this person. Reluctantly, she finally picked up the phone a few seconds later.
“Hello?” she said tentatively.
“Hi, uh is this y/n?” the young voice responded, a slight hint of nervousness in his tone.
“Yes, this is she. May I ask who’s calling?"
“Um, my name is Dustin. Henderson… I don’t know if you remember me, it’s been years since I saw you last…” he rambled on. His next words flew over her head as memories from her childhood came flooding back. She felt lightheaded and was thankful the phone cord was long enough for her to plop down on the nearby chair. Perhaps it had been the work of her previous guardians planting thoughts in her head combined with the extended time that had passed, but up until this point, y/n had no reason to believe that Dustin even remembered her, let alone still cared to speak to her.
She was probably quiet for longer than she had realized and was snapped back to the present time when she heard Dustin go quiet himself before speaking once more. “Y/n? Are you there?”
“Yeah, sorry. This is… I don’t know what to say, um… How are you?” she began, not wanting to plague him with hundreds of questions right off the bat.
“I’m good, I’m sure this call is a bit unexpected; I was wondering if we could meet up sometime? Or maybe I can come visit you?”
She was caught off guard by how upfront he was, and part of her was nervous to accept his invitation.
“How did you… I’m sorry this is…” she trailed off, unable to form a coherent sentence.
“Unexpected, I know.” He finished her sentence with a soft tone.
“Yeah, I didn’t think you remembered me. How did you get this number?” she asked, thoughts racing.
“About that, it’s kind of a long story, could we meet up to talk? Are you free tomorrow?”
“Sure, could you meet me here? The address is-“
“I know the place.” He said, involuntarily cutting her off. “Sorry, I uh, I’ve been before.”
“Okay, um how does 11am sound?” she proposed.
“Perfect, I’ll see you then!”
Before she could get another word out, the line went dead. She sat for what felt like hours, blankly staring at the floor, the phone still glued to her head. She snapped back to reality when a tall figure loomed over her.
“Everything okay?” the familiar voice asked.
“I… I have no idea” the lack of inflection in her voice raised alarm bells for Wayne as he crouched down to get a better look at her face.
“Wanna talk about it?”
Such a simple question left her feeling stumped. Did she? What was there to talk about. Her brother who she had last seen 14 years ago just called, out of the blue wanting to see her. Her thoughts were racing. Through all the noise in her head, she could only make out the familiar cruel words her previous guardians used to spew at her:
“Leave that family alone, they don't want to talk to you.”
“They abandoned you because you are intolerable.”
“How could anyone ever love someone like you.”
“You should be grateful I took you in, no one else would want such a fucked up kid.”
Her father’s words were playing on a loop in her head, sending her into a spiral. Could he have been wrong? Y/n knew there wasn’t much truth to his hurtful words, but after years of being told such things, part of her couldn't help but see some truth behind them.
Seeing her in such distress, Wayne didn’t waste one more second trying to get to the bottom of her sudden change in behavior. He knew that once she became trapped in this trance-like state that no good ever came from it. Wide-eyed, her breaths becoming quicker and shallower, he slowly helped her up from the chair and guided her back to her room. Wayne knew better than to try to get information from her in this state.
Once in her room, Wayne was able to help her through her panic attack. She didn’t suffer from them often, but when she did, they took everything out of her. Finally coming down from it all, she laid in bed exhausted while Wayne retrieved a fresh, crisp water bottle from the kitchen. Sitting up upon his return, she took a big swig from the bottle, let out a heavy sigh and managed to croak out: “My brother called.”
“Your what now??”

Chapter 8
What was approximately 30 seconds of silence felt like minutes, as y/n was racking her brain trying to find an appropriate explanation for her absence. Not wanting to make things more uncomfortable and elongate the silence, she quickly exclaimed: “Recreation time got cut back!”
Eddie paused, examining her face. He wasn’t stupid, and he was pretty good at picking up on social cues. Sensing her sudden response was most likely untruthful, a wave of sadness washed over him. Despite previously joking about y/n avoiding him, he couldn’t help but feel that there was some truth in his teasing. “Well, glad you were able to get some time to yourself today.” His tone was somber. He sheepishly smiled before turning his back to her, starting back towards his room.
She felt a dull pain in her chest. All she wanted was to catch up to him and embrace him in a tight hug. But she couldn’t. How would she explain her sudden outburst of affection? The last thing she wanted to do was drive him away with her sporadic emotions, yet somehow it felt like that was happening anyway.
Unbeknownst to y/n, Eddie was feeling quite isolated since the prior incident leading up to his hospitalization. Despite his friends being on his side providing support, he couldn’t help but feel that the entire town was against him. He was defeated thinking that he would most likely need to leave town in order to establish any new friendships, let alone any intimate relationships.
Those thoughts and feelings were briefly put to rest by his previous interactions with y/n. It was strange, Eddie wasn’t the type to feel flustered around people, given that he was typically the most rambunctious person in the room. But there was something about y/n that was different from everyone else he had previously encountered. He couldn’t put his finger on it; perhaps it was how unpredictable she was. With every conversation they had, Eddie could never anticipate what her next sentence would be. Even if it was the most random thing blurted out in a bashful way, he thought it was adorable and somewhat endearing. Eddie was intrigued by y/n and couldn’t believe he had never gotten to know her whilst they were in school together.
Eddie had been through quite a bit in his 21 years on this earth, and he liked to think that he had become accustomed to dealing with his problems and inner demons. His reputation prior to Chrissy’s death wasn’t pristine, but he could handle people giving him the side eye and gossiping about whether the Hell Fire club was a cult or not. These accusations were much different though. Despite Eddie never paying mind to people’s opinions of him, being seen as a murderer was quite jarring and hard to ignore; the idea of y/n thinking of him that way further weighing on him. If only they had established a friendship in school, maybe she could have seen him for who he truly is and not how the media was currently portraying him.
-
Y/n was frozen in place, watching Eddie walk away from her. She desperately wanted to say something to stop him but couldn’t find the right words. She was fighting an internal battle in her mind; was losing him due to miscommunications really better than being open?
“Eddie!” she blurted out.
He stopped in his tracks, turning to face her in one swift motion.
They both stared at each other for a few seconds before she continued. “I lied.”
‘Great start…’  she scolded herself.
Eddie was caught off guard by her sudden confession and a chuckle slipped out of him. “Uh, okay… About?” he inquired.
“We didn’t get our rec time cut short. I-… I don’t know why I said that…” she trailed off, pondering what to say next.
Eddie was focused, not breaking eye contact as he was taking in every word she was saying.
“Look, I know I’m not the most eloquently spoken person, so bare with me as I try to get this out.”
The next few phrases spewed out of her with complete disregard of how they would be perceived.
“It’s been a really long time since I’ve made a friend I care about so much and I got in my head. I didn’t want to push you away or ruin this somehow, so I figured it would just be easier for me to phase myself out of your life. Not that I thought I made an impact or anything. Shit. I’m sorry, I hope I’m not coming across narcissistic. I’m in no way insinuating that I’m a huge part of your life or-“
“Y/n…” Eddie began. He had gotten used to interrupting her mid-ramble; something she was very grateful for. “I am public enemy #1 right now, on top of already not being everyone’s cup of tea. The idea that you’d be the one to drive me away is comical.” He paused, smirking at her before continuing. “I understand where you’re coming from, but let’s clarify one thing;” he took a few steps towards her. “I’m in no position to cherry pick my friends, and from what I’ve seen, you seem alright.” He winked, a warm smile and a slight shade of pink spreading across his face.
‘Is he blushing right now?’ she thought, this further clouding her mind.
There was a pause, as Eddie waited for y/n to respond. She was processing what he had just said, along with attempting to compose herself. ‘Good god woman, get it together.’
He broke the silence the only way he knew how; with a cheeky rhetorical question: “So, you care about me?”
This effectively broke the awkward silence, a chuckle erupting from them both.
“Yeah yeah, whatever, you know this is exactly why I didn’t want to open up.” She said jokingly. “So… This is a new development.” She said, motioning to him standing before her.
“Yeah! Got to stretch out the old leg muscles for the first time in a couple weeks. Was kind of scared I would face plant to be honest.” He said while pretending his knees were buckling. Eddie was always one for theatrics.
“I’m glad you’re doing better.” She said, a smile forming on her face, cheeks slightly flushed. “Well, I’ve got to get back…I’ll see you later?” she asked, hopeful.
“For sure. Hey uh, maybe I can visit you for a change? Now that I’m mobile again.” He said with a giggle, gesturing to his legs “What room number are you?” he asked.
Oh crap. “Uh, I’m on the 3rd floor, but we’re not allowed visitors right now…” she trailed off, once again feeling immense guilt for somewhat bending the truth. But could she really blame herself? How was she to explain her reason for staying here without driving him away. “I’ll come back tomorrow, let’s meet here, yeah?”
“Works for me.” Eddie’s tone was slightly inquisitive, as he once again could tell that there was something y/n wasn’t being entirely honest about. He figured it was best to leave it for now, as she was already halfway out the door to the stairwell.
‘Tomorrow it is.’
