Part 2 of A Gaylor interpretation of "The Prophecy"
Tumblr media
I had more Thoughts™ that I initially left out for length, but I'd like to elaborate in sections. Special thanks to @mamataylovesrubbi for being so friendly. This community is so lovely.
TW: Brief talk of self-destructive behavior and suicide near the end.
Part 1 here
Overblown Analysis Under the Cut ↓
Artemis/Diana
Some things about Artemis/Diana that I left out of part one I left out were that 1) Artemis is also the goddess of the hunt and animals. I think that tidbit adds to the fable connection, as fables are often stories about animals. When it comes to the hunt, songs like WAOLOM and The Albotros possibly being about Taylor planning revenge on her closet-ers really scream huntress. Artemis can also become a deer, a somewhat surprisingly non-vicious animal for a huntress, if she pleases. "I've been the Archer / I've been the prey." I think this could portray Taylor's strengths and weaknesses. 2) Artemis is a virginal goddess, never having any male lovers in her stories. This doesn't necessarily make Artemis a sapphic goddess, even though I've seen that interpretation, but it's pretty telling that Taylor would align so closely to a goddess with that trait. 3) Artemis/Diana was also the goddess of the moon (somewhat, it's a bit complicated, but that's Greek mythology for you). Fits the themes of Midnights, with Taylor being Midnight (Rain) and her lover being Sunshine. Though that probably shouldn't be taken too literally, as Apollo, god of the sun, is Artemis's twin brother. Trust him like a brother, yeah—
2. Vocalizing
Taylor's vocalizing after "...tell me it'll be okay" reminds me vaguely of the vocalizing in "My Tears Ricochet", a song, like this album, alludes to Taylor dying.
3. "But I looked to the sky" and "I've been on my knees"
With all the talk of sky, I wonder if maybe "Bigger Than The Whole Sky" might be about failed coming outs. I don't know if this is something others thought have already (probably), but I never thought of it before. Meanwhile, the repeat of being on her knees makes me think of "Would've, Could've, Should've". I've mentioned before that I'm open to that song being actually about JM because it wouldn't surprise me if she tried dating dudes in some way early on in her career, whatever that would mean. However, I'm open to alternatives too. With my analysis of Taylor's Eve being bitten by the serpent/Devil, maybe the serpent could be the Devil from "Would've, Could've, Should've". Maybe the Devil could be The Professor from my "The Manuscript" analysis. I'm leaning toward that Devil being her old label.
4. Throttle
A throttle is several things. It can be something to give machinery fuel. It can be a verb, you can throttle something, aka kill it by strangulation. By "hand on the throttle," I think Taylor was saying she was ready to not only fuel/validate her truth, but kill her past lives. I get this vibe that TTPD might be for TS12 what Reputation was for Lover. Just like with Rep, she's killing the old Taylor(s) that hid her queerness before she steps into the daylight with what comes after. Makes me understand all the chockers and high-neck collars she's been sporting for this era.
5. "And it was written"
I feel like I grazed over this part of the line a bit. What was written? It could be Taylor's lyrics or her 100 thrown-out speeches. She wrote them, but wasn't heard anyway, cursed. Or it could be the word written in the Bible. (In my opinion, shit) translations of the Bible call for all kinds of things to happen to queer people, and has so for years. Not that many though because the word homosexual didn't even exist when the Bible was first scribed. Taylor was cursed before she was even born. Possibly like Eve. Didn't Eve have control over whether she ate the fruit or not? Do queer people have control in who they love? Christian will debate forever.
6. "Let it once be me"
One reason why Taylor wasn't out from the get-go obviously has to do with where her career began and under what industry she was entering. An underaged, famous, sapphic country singer sounds a bit wild now honestly, imagine in 2006! The world would not have been ready, unfortunately. But why can't Taylor come out now? Well, in "WAOLOM", Taylor sneers, "I am what I am 'cause you trained me". She was raised to closet for her whole career, maybe even longer, who could know? And of course, "Old habits die screaming" (from "The Black Dog"). After this album, however, I feel like she's gearing up to free herself. Still, there are so many people younger than Taylor who come out super casually, like Reneé Rapp, Girl in Red, etc, without games or clear fear. Taylor probably sees them and wonders why she couldn't have/had that freedom. Maybe when she says specifically, "redo the prophecy" rather than "change the prophecy" she wishes she could go back in time and somehow make it so she could've come onto the scene out and proud way back then.
7. "like fools in a fable / Oh, it was sinking in"
I think Taylor started feeling like she'd never be free as she began to write Folklore. Of course, she knew the plan didn't work before that in 2019, but as she created Folklore and Evermore, she realized she was anywhere near where she wanted to be in 2020, playing the same games. It sunk in with that. That's why Folklore, Evermore, and even some Midnights songs can sound so hopeless. As an LSK, I don't believe it was due to a breakup, but more closeting. All the albums after Lover seem to have minimal color because she can't be herself.
8. "My last coin"
So, I mentioned in part one that Taylor had/has referenced self-inflicting harmful actions towards herself in many songs. She also mentions poison in this song. It got me thinking about Romeo and Juliet and how that play goes. Taylor, with the "Poison blood from the wound of the pricked hand" seems to be combining Romeo and Juliet's death, Juliet getting stabbed or "pricked" and Romeo drinking poison. Maybe this symbolizes that, even though when she was younger, more naïve and optimistic, she exclusively identified with Juliet and changed her ending in "Love Story", now she identifies with both Romeo and Juliet, even sometimes taking on the "male" role in her songs (e.g. The Heartbreak Prince and JaMEs). A part of me wonders if that could be a comment on her gender identity too, but that goes a bit over my skill level to analyze. But it feels sad that Taylor used to change the fates of Romeo and Juliet and now she's honest about what happens to them. As I said before, I want nothing but good for Taylor. it will be okay. 🤍 ✌️🌈
Alrighty, I think I got it all out of me. Watch me think of some more shit with this song. 🙄😅

Gaylors: *Are dismissive towards Taylor and Taylor's own personal thoughts and feelings and wishes 24/7 and also ignores every Easter Egg that Taylor does that doesn't fit the OoC/Basically-An-OC version of Taylor they made up in their brains for their own internal weird fanfic narratives about Taylor and her life that have zero basis in reality, also on 24/7 hour basis*
Basically Taylor herself: "I literally have every single picture that has been taken of Karlie in the 31 years of her existence on planet Earth permanently burned into my brain and I am going to blatantly reference an old and esoteric Eye Theory™️ picture of Karlie from late 2019/early 2020 by copying it almost to the T and I am going to get away with it and also keep cyber-bullying everyone who calls me gay because I am going for more of a 'My mind, body and soul are so consumed by thoughts of Karlie that I'm barely aware that other people even exist' vibe than a 'gay' vibe."
look, i just find it funny whenever people try to gaslight themselves out of a good time 😌
also don’t be calling the studs evil eye piercing photo old and esoteric! it was a full course meal of a moment at the time and beside november 2019 was literally just last week! shhhhhhh!!!

hi ralph! love your blog. have an ask for you for a friend (really lol, she is not on tumblr) who is a huge taylor stan and gaylor-curious. i can't indulge her bc i don't follow taylor closely enough to have opinions about gaylor/whether joe is a beard, etc. and she says her other taylor fan friends think its disrespectful to speculate on someone's sexuality. (I, a committed larrie, can not personally relate to this POV). I respect your balanced opinions and I know you also follow taylor, are a fan, may have voiced opinions on this in the past, etc. So, the questions she would like your opinion on:
do you think taylor is gay
do you think she was ever (or still is) with karlie kloss
what would you say are your reasons (proofs, patterns, opinions or otherwise) for your opinions on the above? Can you also share your thoughts on taylor and joe and why you think those?
I hope this comes across respectfully and look forward to sharing any insights you might have for my friend! xx
Thanks for the questions anon. I think I'd recommend that your gaylor curious fan checks out some of the episodes on the 'What I Will Say' podcast. I don't actually agree with her approach (she puts a lot of weight on song lyrics and social media interaction), but it's pretty thorough introduction.
Here are my not very informed thoughts:
I don't know if Taylor is gay, but I don't think she's straight.
I think Taylor and Karlie Kloss probably hooked up. But I don't think they've been together for a long time. I also think that one of Taylor's problems is that the women she hooks up with chose the worst men in the world over her.
As I've said before, I'm very much just into vibes and good stories when it comes to Taylor. We don't know what's going on with celebrities it's all guess work and to talk about proofs and patterns is to put a lot of weight on it.
The fact that so many of her public relationships are incredibly fake and with closeted men is definitely a large part of it. I also think she engages with queer themes in her art. And bigger than any individual piece, I think there's this real thread of compulsory heterosexuality in her early work - of making herself be who she's supposed to be. And the way that gave way to more explicitly wlw themes feels very resonant to me.
I don't really think she and Joe are together (I have previously said that London Boy is proof that they're not). But the whole situation with the grammys and the credits is pretty weird whatever is going on. So I suspect it's much more complicated than I could imagine.

hi I was wondering what your favourite sapphic songs of Taylor's are? cause kaylors make such a big deal of the 'male perspective' in songs like our song, love story, mine. and I agree that wanting to experience that is gay in itself. but those songs just feel so straight country love songs that I really cannot see them as sapphic, particularly given that she also sings from the 'female perspective' to the man. so I wondered which songs feel most sapphic to you?
Ohh boy yeah the male perspective (except Betty where it’s gay in concept and feels very like when 15 year old me was obsessed with Blue Mountain State lmao) never screams gay to me. Let’s do a roundup of sapphic lyrics and themes.
In Teardrops on My Guitar, Taylor says: “Drew walks by me... Can he tell that I can't breathe? And there he goes, so perfectly... The kind of flawless I wish I could be.” Now the whole song’s unseen pining is pretty gay to me. Like I say, there are unrequited straight songs but it’s very like... “why aren’t you understanding that I’m right here? How can you be so blind?” In Teardrops Taylor seems very aware that this person (well boy in the song) won’t ever notice her.
And sure we could say “well she has poor self-confidence” but then there’s that line in the bit I chose: “The kind of flawless I wish I could be” - why is she comparing herself to a boy? Do I want to be you or do I want to fuck you is such a big mood for queer women especially young queer women. I dunno, like my first few late elementary/early middle school crushes (and my first few crushes were on girls) were very like: “Do I want to be her? Do I want to be her best friend? Or do I want her to hold my hand? And why does her holding my hand make my heart beat faster and seem to have no effect on her?” There’s a definite way queer women compare ourselves to the object of our affections that straight women don’t seem to do that makes “my crush is the kind of flawless I wish I could be” feel extremely sapphic to me.
Oh bonus one from Teardrops: “The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star / He's the song in the car I keep singing. Don't know why I do” - why doesn’t she know? Like what’s confusing about this situation? She likes this dude why is it such a big fucking deal that she does? And again why does she want to be like him?
Anyway yeah that whole song.
Also Invisible is gay af. Like if you reverse the pronouns it’s the universal queer woman’s story of being in love with your friend. And this bitch is into some dude who isn’t anywhere near good enough for her and your affections are invisible but if she only knew - and she won’t - the two of you could have something beautiful together.
Stay Beautiful also reads gay but apparently she wrote it in the fourth grade so maybe her vocab was just bad idk.
On that album, Tied Together with a Smile and I’m Only Me When I’m With You are formally, officially, according to Tay’s explanations about her female friends btw. If you listen to those two songs and then the first two I listed they’re... not that fucking different lmao. It’s that same idea of “you get me and I just want you to be happy”. It’s all just... gay...
Fearless is probably one of the least gay albums overall IMO (tho I’m open to people making stuff gay) but it does give us the title track which is very fucking gay lol so it makes up for the number of straight sounding songs on here. First there’s this bit:
We're drivin' down the road
I wonder if you know
I'm tryin' so hard not to get caught up now
But you're just so cool
Run your hands through your hair
Absent-mindedly makin' me want you
Man I wonder if you know” is exactly that feeling I was describing like, I wonder if you realize this is more than friendship? I wonder if you know that I want you. And the “you’re just so cool” isn’t as explicitly “I want to be you” but it’s also got some of that shared energy. This person is so cool that them running their hand absent-mindedly through their hair is making her feel some type of way and yet she’s not sure if the person knows that. Now why wouldn’t this extremely cool guy know that the girl he’s giving a lift to is possibly interested?
Then there’s this bit:
My hands shake
I'm not usually this way
But you pull me in and I'm a little more brave
It's the first kiss,
It's flawless,
Really something,
It's fearless.
Why does this first kiss require so much bravery? It’s not her first ever because “I’m not usually this way” implies she has been in a similar position before. And then:
And I don't know why but with you I'd dance in a storm in my best dress
Fearless
“I don’t know why” - well because you like this person! Girl, you’re into them. Oh, you’re not sure why because it’s a girl? Also lbr discussing clothes with your crush/partner is a very gay girl thing so just that addition of “my best dress” in the context of the rest of this incredibly gay song is... gay...
Oh and a bonus point:
'Cause I don't know how it gets better than this
You take my hand and drag me head first
Fearless
Making that big a deal of handholding and saying it requires bravery is, you guessed it, gay af.
Untouchable also delivers some gems: “Untouchable like a distant diamond sky / I'm reaching out and I just can't tell you why / I'm caught up in you” - I mean this is that whole vague confused forbidden vibes I spoke about before and the “And when you're close I feel like coming undone”. For me, it’s the fact that this person’s mere presence is enough to make her undone and she’s begging for a “taste of Heaven” feels... gay...
Jump Then Fall is also pretty damn gay to me. It’s got that dangerous “this could be dangerous” thing going on (“I had time to think it all over and all I can say is come closer”) but it’s also positive and... she’s saying jump and I’ll catch you which... like I get that it could be metaphorical but generally with het couples the dude would do the catching. Like if it was just that it’d not be that gay but again, the whole thing... is...
Whoa, oh, I need you baby
Don't be afraid, please,
Jump then fall
Jump then fall into me
Baby, I'm never gonna leave you
Say that you wanna be with me too
'Cause I'mma stay through it all
So jump then fall
Jump then fall, baby,
Jump then fall into me, into me
Like why are they both so scared? Why is she convincing herself and this person? What’s the danger? Is it just meant to be a “loss of virginity” song?
Then there’s the catching bit I mentioned:
The bottom's gonna drop out from under our feet
I'll catch you, I'll catch you
When people say things that bring you to your knees
I'll catch you
Idk man. It’s gay.
By the way for two unrequited songs that fundamentally feel straight to me, look at The Other Side of the Door and You Belong With Me. I’m not saying you can’t have queer readings. But both of them have that “blame” angle to the guy’s lack of interest or inability to requite her feelings. Like she’s saying “I won’t tell you what I want or that I want you but you should figure it out ya big dummy!” which is inherently different to that “I know this is completely pointless and I’m barking up the wrong tree” energy of the other songs I mentioned. “I’m worried you’ll hurt me” songs are also different to “if you stand close to me I’ll completely fall apart but I can’t let you see” of... like... Untouchable.
Hey Stephen has the “I can't help it if you look like an angel” line but it’s generally straight for me because:
Hey, Stephen,
I could give you fifty reasons
Why I should be the one you choose.
All those other girls—
Well, they're beautiful,
But would they write a song for you?
Do you see what I mean it’s like “I know you might not want me but you should” and that’s not a sapphic vibe. Like that’s to me what makes her gay sounding songs so much gayer like they capture a very specific feeling - being confused on if you want to be her, be her friend or fuck her dumb ass.
On Speak Now Taylor adds another type of gayness into her repertoire. She does the “I’m singing about a guy but it’s all about a girl” thing in Better Than Revenge. Now I know she has been called out a lot for this and she herself has now said obvi girls don’t steal your boyfriend BUT that’s not the part I find interesting. It’s shit like: “She thinks I'm psycho 'cause I like to rhyme her name with things” - like girl, that is psycho. Being obsessed with the fact that she is wearing vintage dresses is weird. And Taylor does this in the title track with her lengthy descriptions of the bridge compared to ZERO description of the guy. Not even “looking so handsome” - like there’s nothing. But the bride is “floating down the aisle like a pageant queen”.
Idk this is only three albums and only like my favorite gay bits and I already have so many and I haven’t even gotten to Treacherous 😭 I think I should make a hashtag for this and carry on later.
The point is, for me, it’s not about her singing a back and forth with a guy and a girl. It’s capturing supremely sapphic wlw feelings that I’ve never seen a straight female songwriter or musician convey, even where I’ve loved their music and felt it strongly resonated with me for other reasons.

My takes on Taylor’s “relationships”
Nobody asked for this, but I’m going to write it out anyway. 🤷‍♀️
I was introduced to the Gaylor community in 2020, right after folklore came out. I started out as a Kaylor and then saw the light. I’ve been lurking, reading, listening, and vibing. Here are my current thoughts/takes.
In (attempted) chronological order (kinda):
Joe Jonas: I think it was real. Taylor fell hard. She was way more into him than he was into her. Don’t think they ever had sex.
Martin Johnson: I think they secretly dated because her parents didn’t really approve and her team thought he wasn’t good for her image.
Emily Poe: I think they were close and Taylor had a crush. Nothing more.
John Mayer: I don’t think they dated or had sex. I think Taylor really looked up to him and maybe he was creepy and tried to come on to her and she freaked out. She figured out what a tool he is.
Lucas Till: Maybe went out on a few dates. He had a crush and she wasn’t super into him.
Julianne Hough: I think they probably were hooking up/fwb/just having some fun.
Taylor Lautner: Totally fake. PR for their movie.
Cory Monteith, Chord Overstreet, Will Anderson: Went out on a few dates maybe. Nothing serious.
Liz Huett: Bffs. Maybe hooked up/made out but nothing serious and no real feelings.
Jake Gyllenhal: Real. He totally broke her heart. Probably lost the v card to him.
Dianna Agron: Dated secretly. Didn’t work out because the closeting was too hard. The one that got away.
Connor Kennedy (I initially forgot him): I think he was mostly PR/a setup to coverup for Dianna. But then her & Dianna got in a fight/went on a break and she kinda used him to make Dianna jealous. He was a HS guy so obvi he was gonna go along with whatever to hang out with a beautiful and famous 22 year old. Also she was obsessed with the Kennedys and got to cosplay as a Kennedy 1950’s housewife lol.
Harry Styles: Totally fake. I think it was meant to last longer than it did but Harry didn’t like it. I think they are friendly these days and like each other as people.
Karlie Kloss: Started out as PR bffs. Became real bffs.,Taylor caught feelings. Maybe some hooking up/confusing experimenting for Karlie going on. Karlie chose Josh. Taylor was heartbroken. Karlie betrayed her.
Calvin Harris: Mostly PR but but were probably hooking up. Probably not monogamous or serious. Meant to remind people Taylor is totes not gay after all the Kaylor rumors.
Tom Hiddleston: I think she kinda used him for PR and to make Calvin jealous, and he actually was really into her. They probably were hooking up for real.
Lily Donaldson: I think they def had something at the beginning of Toe. I think Toe started off not monogamous and she was hooking up/dating Lily at the same time as early stages of Toe.
Joe Alwyn: I think they are real but it’s not the fairytale Angel boyfriend romance she has tried to sell. I think they have been on and off and are kinda toxic.
Conclusion: I hope Taylor can one day be truly happy and at peace. I’d love to discuss if anyone wants to!

everything has changed - the first swiftgron song
i haven’t been giving this number her due but in terms of proof it’s up there with babe and wonderland imo so she’s going to get her own masterpost!  every gaylor and their mom has done one but now it’s my turn!
part 1 - the timeline
the first thing about everything has changed that’s so delightfully evidence filled is the great timeline disallowing for a proper public male muse.
thanks to tweets we know ed and taylor were working on the song on may 15th, 2012:
Tumblr media
this is after taylor’s first fling with harry is over (which supposedly ended april 22, 2012) but before she meets conor kennedy (as far as we know they met over july 4th weekend 2012).  at this point in time conor is a junior in high school and 17.  i’ve got plenty of posts on why i don’t think either of these boys are proper muses (x, x, x) and how their timelines don’t add up but they really don’t add up for everything has changed.
now you might say, “oh maybe ed and taylor were working on a different song.” but taylor tells on herself later in interviews for red, confirming that a couple weeks after they met (so a week or two after these tweets) she debuted the “i just wanna know you better now” pre chorus to him, confirming that indeed they were working on ehc in may (or perhaps early june at the latest) not fitting timeline for harry or conor:
youtube
the only thing that could work is that she started writing this song for harry before they broke up the first time but she later attributes this song very obviously to conor.  you might argue that she didn’t want a falling in love song to go to harry on the red album since they had had a rocky little break up in late april but she attributes treacherous to him and harry’s thought to be the muse for come back... be here as well.
part 2 - green eyes, your freckles, and the rain (among other things)
there are a lot of delightful little clues that point back to dianna in this song.  she, of course, has green eyes as mentioned in the song.
the newest addition to the evidence pile i have for y’all is that dianna does have proper freckles.  they’re a pale dusting across her cheeks that appear to usually be covered up by makeup but you can see them in scenes of movies where she doesn’t wear a lot of makeup and when natural lighting hits her such as hollow in the land and bare:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
yes they’re hard to see but they’re there!
it also rained (a rare occurrence in LA!) during the first swiftgron hang out (that we know of) possibly harkening back to the lyric “all i know is pouring rain and everything has changed”:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
it didn’t rain in LA when taylor spent the first week of april with harry there, nor did it rain in nyc when they were supposedly there together.  it also didn’t rain in hyannis port during the first week or july when she met conor (and the song was written before that!). it rained in la on the 13th of april but taylor was in nashville, and then it rained on the night of the 25th, after haylor 1.0 was over.
now of course the rain could be a metaphor or simply a vibe, but if you want to make it literal, you can for dianna.
the butterflies referenced in the song could be a reference back to dianna’s tattoo she got for the book “hope for flowers” which is about a butterfly and a caterpillar that she got removed after swiftgron supposedly broke up:
Tumblr media
furthermore taylor brings back the pouring rain, the dust, and the butterflies back for clean.  taylor has only used butterflies twice in a song- ehc and then clean.  would make sense if they’re about the same muse but according to taylor ehc is about conor and clean is about harry!
the lyric “meet me there tonight” is of note as well since the night taylor first wrote with ed, may 15th, she did go have dinner with dianna that very night!
part 3 - the songs gayer than we give it credit for
what changed taylor? what do you know now that you didn’t before? insights on dianna’s sexuality/feelings for you perhaps? insights on your own sexuality?  and why are you so worried it might all be in your mind?  as usual it could all just be a vibe situation but it feels as thought something sort of profound and nerve wracking is going on here.  that doesn’t inherently prove gayness but it certainly fits.
part 4 - where the fuck is hyiannis port?
so taylor dedicates the song to conor kennedy with the liner note hyannis port (supposedly where she met him) except she spells it wrong!  she adds an i and spells it “hyiannis” which appears to mimic part of the spelling of dianna’s name:
Tumblr media
if this was a typo taylor (who is a renowned control freak) never had it corrected in subsequent printings of the liner notes.
the placement of “i”s right after line breaks also mimics the way taylor places the i in dianna’s name in the 22 liner notes:
Tumblr media
part 5 - furthermore
dianna tweeted about the song:
Tumblr media
kind of interesting since it feels like all too well or perhaps the last time would be more in dianna’s music taste imo, even more interesting that she didn’t tweet about 22 which, you know, is officially dedicated to her.
another closing thought would be- if conor inspired such soft and intense falling in love music, why didn’t he inspire any breakup songs (as far as we know)?
taylor actually came back and gave an interview where she (or her publicist) said the conor situation was casual, just a youthful fling.  but ehc doesn’t sound casual, it sounds pretty intense and profound!

Which songs do you think are 100% about tily ?
SONGS
I would bet good money these songs are about Tily/Lily:
Cornelia Street - to me the song describes the Tily Autumn of 2016 and ends with their impending breakup. The timing in the lyrics matches Tily exactly. Plus Taylor seems to look back on this song in a sad, nostalgic way at the City of Lover concert and in a few interviews.
Gorgeous - see my analysis here. I think this song describes the beginning of Tily. The British references. The lyric video being in black and white but only the word “gorgeous” is in pink to me says that the gorgeous subject of the song is a woman.
Afterglow - written in late 2018/early 2019, the timing seems to match a Tily fight and eventual breakup. Matches when Lily stopped liking Taylor’s posts (until a few in late 2019) and interacting with fans about her. The song seems to be an apology from Taylor.
The timestamps lyrically in these songs don’t match Kaylor. The breakup vibes in Cornelia Street and Afterglow don’t match Joe.
One level down but I still think pretty clearly it’s about Tily/Lily:
Renegade - the lyrics parallel Afterglow, CIWYW, Dress, and some other songs. Seems to reference the person that helped Taylor through the rough 2016/2017, which we know Lily was there for. The sirens starting at 1:27 I think is a hidden clue. The bisexual flag colors in the video I think are a clue the song is about a woman.
Death By a Thousand Cuts - I know Taylor said this song is based on a movie, but the vibes are pretty close to taking place right after Cornelia Street’s lyrics and the breakup while writing the Lover album seems to match the likely Tily demise.
I think these songs are at least partially about Tily/Lily:
Coney Island - I think Lily is the one Taylor is apologizing to for not making her Taylor’s centerfold and not getting the arcade ring for.
Champagne Problems - in my head canon, Lily’s sister’s splashy engagement party in Sept. 2018 influenced Lily to possibly seek more from Taylor, like maybe coming out (the timing of which tracks with a lot of believable rumors about the Rolling Stone coming out article in Spring 2019), which may have led to the demise of Tily. The timing seems to match the perceived beginning of the end of Tily and matches the story of these lyrics.
The 1 - I think the second verse is definitely about Lily. She’s the painter (see here) and known for taking adventures on her own per interviews.
End Game - even if the lyrics aren’t specifically about Lily, I think the music video has several Lily references and Lily’s use of “AT” in her birthday post for Taylor (later removed over 3 years later when Tily was over) matters.
The Man - released on Lily’s birthday and has references to her.
Delicate - “Dive bar east side, where you at” to me is a Lily reference since she lived on the east side and liked her dive bars there per interviews. The timing matches the Tily Autumn of 2016. Plus Taylor’s straddling of the Cadillac Fleetwood in the video and the blue butterfly 🦋 being in the “Delicate” Taymoji pack.
King of My Heart / Call It What You Want - the British references, the model references, and especially running away together in late November 2016 (a post on this is coming because I think it’s really important to Tily and the gaylor universe in general).
London Boy - see my analysis here. There are many Lily references in this song. The song seems to be half about Lily and half about Joe (whether you believe he’s real or not).
Dress - because of this.
Others - New Year’s Day, Betty, Lover, Cardigan, Me!, Daylight, False God, This Is Me Trying, Hoax (the love parts), Happiness, Cowboy Like Me, maybe Exile.
What are your thoughts? I can never quite understand Cruel Summer so I don’t know who or what it’s about. I’ve seen theories but they range greatly. I think DBM, DWOHT, August, Closure, and Gold Rush are about Karlie. I don’t know enough about Swiftgron to have any meaningful takes for Rep era forward songs for her but I’ve heard that most of 1989 and the love songs on Red are for her. I’ve seen people say that part of The 1 and Cardigan could be for her, which I can see.

An attempt at objectivity on the topic of Tayliz/a summary: Part 2
(Kind of...)
I’ve been busy with irl stuff the last week, so I haven’t been posting much lately. I finally have a day where I have nothing else to do and I’ve been considering making a post about where I currently stand on Tayliz/Gaylor in general for a while, so I thought now would be a good time to do that.
Disclaimer: I don’t know any of these people personally and this is all my own interpretation of publicly available information. I apologize for the length of this post...
I’ve been a Taylor fan since 2006 and a Gaylor since at least early 2009 when I was posting fanfics on LiveJournal (I stopped writing rpf a long time ago, btw). I’ve been in and out of the Gaylor fandom since then. I’ve created and deleted multiple blogs/accounts in the past 12+ years. I was mostly active between 2009 and 2015, but I did a lot of lurking during that time and only engaged when I felt I had something to contribute. 2015/2016 was a crazy time and I was going through some of my own stuff, so I stopped following Gaylor as closely for a while. I listened to reputation and Lover, I read the Gaylor theories, made a couple comments, and moved along. When folklore was released it drew me back in.
I created this blog in September 2020, before I even had an inkling that Liz might be more than just another name that has been thrown into the potential exes list, along with Claire C. and Kellie (I don’t believe either of those two had anything beyond friendship with Taylor). I had never looked into it too much because it seemed like there was not as much information as there was for the main 3 (Emily, Dianna, and Karlie). Now, after researching Tayliz for 5 months, I believe there is at least as much, if not more, to go on as there is for the main 3.
As for Taymily, I believe that, at the very least, Taylor had a massive crush on Emily. I don’t like to get too in-depth about that because there is a very suspect age gap. I’m not saying that those things don’t happen, but I will reiterate my statement from an earlier post that I am not comfortable essentially accusing someone of committing a crime when all that can be deciphered is that Taylor seemed to really care about her. I do think there are multiple songs about Emily.
I also believe that Taylor did date Dianna and possibly had some kind of relationship with Karlie. I think both of these possible relationships are long over at this point. Taylor may have been looking back on those relationships (along with others) in her last few albums.
I still personally think it is possible that Taylor is a lesbian, but there are reasons to think she might be bi and I understand why people think that she is. I don’t really talk about the guys Taylor may have dated, but I will say that, to me, all of the boyfriends she had after high school seem like beards. I could be wrong, of course. There are way too many signs that she is queer for me to not think that she is at least bi.
There have always been sapphic themes in Taylor’s music, even in early songs like “Me And Britney” and “Angelina”. Her entire discography is littered with sapphic themes. In recent years, she has seemed to hint at being some form of queer in other ways as well. This has all been examined by others, so I won’t get into that in this post.
Anyway, on to Tayliz…
There is some compelling “circumstantial evidence” suggesting that there may have been something beyond friendship between Tayliz (a lot of this was covered in my first post and all of the information has been mentioned at some point on my blog):
They met multiple times between December 2006 and February 2009, when Liz first performed with Taylor, but it is hard to tell how well they knew each other at that time. Based on the information available, I actually think they might have even been close, or at least friendly, before Liz was hired, but I could be wrong.
The “official” story is that Liz met Taylor at a meet and greet in December 2006 and again in July 2007. She asked if she could sing for Taylor and Taylor gave her advice, including suggesting that she enter a talent contest and that she should move to Nashville. Some accounts say that Liz sang for Taylor in her dressing room, but I have never found a source for this part of the story.
Taylor wrote the following sentence about Liz in her blog on February 5, 2008, after performing on the competition show that Liz was a contestant on: “It sounds strange, but there was always something different about her that stuck out in my mind”. That is super suspect to me...
Taylor was the only musician to perform on the show, btw (although they did have the touring cast of HSM on the next week). Taylor allegedly said, during the interview portion of her appearance, that she knew Liz and that Liz had gone to “all” of her shows and meet and greets… whatever that means.
According to Liz, she moved to Nashville in June 2008 and sometime within the next 6 months she received a call to audition as a backup singer, but did not know for which artist she was auditioning. I feel like it would be an incredible coincidence that Taylor suggested she move to Nashville two years earlier, they met multiple times after that, and randomly Liz got a call to audition for Taylor without knowing it was for her within 6 months of moving there. I don’t know, maybe I’m being too skeptical, but it seems almost more of a reach to say that Taylor didn’t somehow have a hand in her getting that audition.
Liz already seemed very comfortable around Taylor in that picture with George Strait taken on the day of her first show with the band in February 2009.
At the one-off shows after Liz joined the band, there was a little skit between Taylor, Liz, and Grant during YBWM, where Grant played the love interest and Liz played the “Cheer Captain”. There was even a talking bit. During the Australia one-off shows, there was a talking bit before F&A where Taylor introduced Liz and they had a little conversation that ended similarly to the one Taylor has with the interviewer during the Fearless Tour. After this, they rarely interacted on stage.
Taylor seemed to allow Liz’s input during the auditions for the Fearless Tour dancers, two months after she joined the band, and Taylor ended up hiring two of her friends.
Liz went with Taylor to visit Abigail at her university in Kansas two months after joining the band.
Taylor took Liz with her to see Britney Spears’ Circus Tour show in Chicago right after the Kansas trip.
Taylor said in an interview for Oprah’s website, released in May 2009, that Australia and Lawrence, KS were her two favorite places to visit, which just so happen to be two of the places she had recently been with Liz.
The fact that they shared a hotel room in London a few months after Liz joined the band. Caitlin, who had been in the band for a while at that point, and her mom were both there for that trip. Maybe Taylor was just happy to be able to hang out with another woman around her age. It seems strange, but it could be a completely platonic situation.
Taylor and the band, including Liz, recorded a cover of “American Girl” by Tom Petty (one of Liz’s favorite artists) in front of the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon in May 2009. The secret message for “Sparks Fly” is “Portland, Oregon” and she mentions the Rose Garden in “The Lucky One”.
Taylor mentions going to dinner with Liz, seemingly just the two of them, in her vlog from May 29, 2009, which was around Liz’s birthday (May 27).
The amount of Liz content in the vlogs. Plus, the choice to put the line “I like where you sleep, when you sleep next to me” right before showing Liz sleeping on a couch (this was the trip where they shared a hotel room, which does make that fact more suspect, imo) and including the song “She (For Liz)” in another vlog, in which she dedicates a whole section to Liz’s habit of falling asleep “All. The. Time.”
In fact, in both of those vlogs, which were posted a year apart from each other (May 2009 and April 2010), Taylor wears a black dot shirt, in clips that include only her and Liz, that is similar to the one she wore in the IKYWT mv.
Honestly, just go watch the video she made for Emily and then watch the vlogs after Liz joined the band… I just get a similar vibe in the clips she chose to include of both women.
They went to a Paramore concert together the weekend before Taylor hosted SNL in November 2009. At the concert, they were filmed by other attendees dancing next to each other on the balcony. One of the songs they were filmed dancing to is “That’s What You Get” and Taylor asked Hayley to perform that song with her (and the band, including Liz) at one of the Nashville shows on the SN Tour in 2011. In November 2019, Liz released her own song called “That’s What You Get” that sounds like it could be the opposite side of the relationship much of Red is about (and a couple other Taylor songs from other albums).
In Taylor’s Glamour interview published on 10/5/2010, she mentions that she designed the two guest rooms at her Nashville condo with Caitlin and Liz in mind.
After tweeting about attending the Katy P. concert in Dublin with Taylor (and Grant and Caitlin) someone asked Liz what her favorite KP song was and she responded “Thinking Of You”. This is suspect because at the time Liz did have a bf, but she may have just liked the song and didn’t necessarily relate to it personally.
There are tweets from people who are either not really well-known or aren’t in the industry at all that mention Taylor and Liz hanging out outside of touring. They are mentioned together in quite a few tweets actually. They seemed to have a good number of mutual friends during that time (spring/summer 2009-fall 2012). After Liz left the band, Taylor stopped hanging out with most of those people, while Liz continues to maintain some of those friendships to this day. This could be explained by the fact that Taylor began spending less time in Nashville.
One such friend is the photographer who Taylor hired for Red. She is actually a longtime friend of Liz. Supposedly she took some photos of Liz that Taylor saw and Taylor hired her after that. There are some pictures from Taylor’s Red photoshoot that are similar to Liz’s photos.
There are rumors that Liz was fired, but the “official” story is that she left to pursue her own music.
Liz did not wish Taylor a happy birthday on twitter in 2012, which she had done in previous years. She did not tweet @ or mention Taylor for almost a year. Taylor didn’t respond to any of her tweets or mention her until October 2014.
Some of the songs Liz released in late 2012/early 2013 have similar lyrics/themes to Taylor’s music and may be about Taylor.
The lyric video for Liz’s song STFU&HM includes polaroid pictures with the song’s lyrics written on them and neon signs, which is basically the 1989 aesthetic. The actual mv has some potential parallels to the IKYWT mv. (side note: Liz specified in an interview that the kind of “sour candy” she is singing about in the song is Watermelon Sour Patch, which Taylor mentioned in the June 2008 issue of Teen Vogue was something that she “couldn’t live without”)
The love interest wears a key necklace in the STFU&HM mv and Taylor wears one in the IKYWT mv.
The bridge of IKYWT is very similar to lyrics from a song by Patty Griffin called “Nobody’s Crying”. Liz once said that Patty is her favorite singer (this was when she was still in Taylor’s band) and has mentioned her and that particular song multiple times over the years. Side note: Taylor mentioned last year that another one of Patty’s songs was the inspiration for “betty”.
Liz played the other woman in the mv for TSOU and in the photoshoot for SN. At the end of the mv for her song “H8U”, Liz interrupts her love interest’s wedding and kisses his tall, blonde, curly haired bride.
This one could be a crazy coincidence, but Liz recorded the backing vocals on a song called “Dear John” that was written by the backup dancer who came out to Taylor during the Fearless Tour. Btw, by no means am I saying DJ is about Liz because that would make zero sense.
Liz’s birthday is on one of the board games in the “Lover” mv that reference “Cruel Summer”. Most people think CS is about Karlie and that makes sense, but it also seems to reference “Love Story”, which was potentially written sometime around when Taylor performed on the show Liz was a contestant on. I don’t know if LS is about Liz and I am not trying to claim that, but it is interesting. Even if it’s not, they performed that song together a lot and Liz helped out with the onstage costume change during that song. CS could be about her experiences with both Liz and Karlie. Or it could just be about Karlie and the date in the “Lover” mv has nothing to do with Liz’s birthday.
In “the 1” and “dorothea”, Taylor potentially references Liz’s song “Never Know” and by reference, I mean that she essentially uses the exact same lyrics: “I guess you never know, you never know” = “I guess you never know, never know” and “I guess I’ll never know” = literally just the same line. Not to mention in “dorothea” Taylor also sings “Do you ever stop and think about me?” and in NK Liz sings “I wonder if you think about me” right before the line “I guess I’ll never know”. I am not saying that either of those songs are about Liz, but it is interesting, especially since Liz tweeted about “the 1”, which was the thing that really sent me on my deep dive into Tayliz.
The “cardigan” looks like the cardigan she wears in the first vlog she included Liz in. It could be nothing, but it is interesting because I have a theory that Liz is the first woman she had a “relationship” with and that “cardigan” is about Liz, Dianna, Karlie, and possibly some other women she might have dated/been with.
These are just some of the highlights and are more focused on the facts as opposed to some of my more tinfoil hat, fun, crack theory stuff or just some of the things that are loosely related to Liz or might involve a little (or a lot of) reaching to connect them to her.
Everything I have mentioned could just be a series of strange coincidences, even though there appears to be quite a few of them. Whether anything ever happened between them or it was just one of those intense, romantic friendships that some women tend to have, I don’t really know. Based on what I have seen, I tend to think there was something going on there beyond friendship, but possibly it was never anything official.
Liz seemed to have a boyfriend most of the time that Tayliz were working together/hanging out, which is one of the main things that makes me question my own theory. Of course, it is always possible that she had something with Taylor, while she also had a boyfriend. There are many reasons for that (poly, closeted, etc.), so that does not exclude the idea that she may have actually been involved with two people at one time and one of those people could have been Taylor.
If they were together in some capacity, while Liz also had a boyfriend, it could explain the messy relationship that Taylor seemed to write about during that time. I think it is possible that Emily was just a crush and Liz was her first actual experience with another woman where the feelings were reciprocated to some degree. OR they could have just been really good friends and I am utterly, completely wrong.
Maybe Taylor is just a straight girl, who doesn’t realize that she’s been sending signals that she is queer for years. Whenever that thought crosses my mind, I think about all of the things she has said and done that imply she may not be straight and I just can’t help thinking that it is intentional. I don’t think she is queerbaiting or unintentionally signaling that she might be queer. I think she is queer and has dropped multiple hints to suggest that over the years.
Anyway… Liz has a bf right now and seems to be in a good place, so let’s let her be, please. I hope we get some more new music from her soon.
As far as researching Tayliz goes, I’ll probably keep looking into it when I have time, but at this point I think I have seen pretty much all there is to see (of the content available online currently). I’ll be waiting for the songs from Taylor’s “vault” to drop to see if there are any potential connections there (at least in the “vault” songs for Fearless, Speak Now, and Red).
In conclusion (TL;DR)...
My personal opinion is that there is enough “circumstantial evidence” to include Liz on the list of Taylor potential exes. For me the Gaylor timeline looks something like this:
(Fair Warning: this is all total speculation based on song lyrics and other information that is publicly available)
Summer 2006-December 2007: Taylor develops a crush on Emily. Emily possibly finds out somehow and it doesn’t go over well (OR it does). She is fired from the band AND maybe she is paid off to pursue other interests…
2008/2009- Spring (Summer? Fall?) 2012: Taylor has an on/off relationship with Liz, while Liz also dates men. The relationship may have even started developing as early as the first time they supposedly met back in December 2006, but Taylor definitely was feeling something by the time she posted that blog in February 2008. It’s complicated and non-exclusive. Maybe Taylor wanted more of a commitment and maybe there were promises made that things could/would change, but they never did. By the time she started hanging out with Dianna she was ready to move on. So, she ended things in March/April… but still met up with Liz a couple times after (possibly as friends).
Taylor may have also dated Julianne H. at some point in 2008/2009.
Spring 2012-Fall 2013 (?): Taylor has an on/off relationship with Dianna that may have ended, in part, due to interference from Taylor’s team. Maybe it is the one relationship with a woman that could have actually developed into something more concrete, but maybe that also scared Taylor a bit.
Winter 2013/Early 2014-Fall 2016: Taylor has an on/off relationship with Karlie, while Karlie is also involved with Josh (hence my comment about how CS could be about her experiences with both Liz and Karlie because they may have been similar circumstances, where sometimes they were single and other times they had a serious bf).
Fall 2016-Present: There are at least a couple potential girlfriends within this timeframe. I lean towards Tily being a thing from at least fall 2016-Summer 2019. I am open to Zaylor and I do find it interesting, but I’m not as sold on that one. I personally do not think Taylor is with Joe nor do I think that Joe is WB.
The straight explanation could be that Taylor gets into really, intensely close friendships with other women and eventually they grow apart and move on with their lives.
The funny thing is that I remember Taylor once saying something about how after a breakup, she completely cuts that person off. That fits with her relationships (whatever the nature) with Liz, Dianna, and Karlie. With each of these women, Taylor shared a friend group with them, but Taylor seemed most interested in them. She has had a few friendly/cordial interactions with them, but she seems to have completely separated her life from them after their “friendships” ended. In fact, she moved to entirely different cities on opposite sides of the country (and in one case a different country, with a whole ocean in between) after she stopped hanging out with them.
That’s where I stand and it’s not really much different from where I was back in October when I posted my first summary on Tayliz.
Although, I do have more information now than I did then that leads me to think something was going on. 70% of the time I am convinced they had a relationship beyond friendship and 30% of the time I think they were only ever friends. 99.9% of the time I think I am a clown.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I am inclined to believe that Tayliz is more likely to have had some sort of relationship than Taymily and is slightly less likely to have happened than Swiftgron and Kaylor. Other Gaylors might think they were only coworkers or friends. I’m not out to convince anyone. I am just presenting the information I have found and I don’t mind a friendly discussion/debate if anyone wants to talk about it.

Have you noticed the correlation between stay beautiful and the unreleased song Brittany? Specifically relating to talking about words noone else knows about.
ehhhh kind of? it's like "words no one was supposed to hear" and "words that nobody knows" or something like that i think and i mean sure! if you're saying stay beautiful is not about this "cory" person but instead about the girl (possibly brittany) who cory is dating that taylor hopes will leave him and her love will lead her back to taylor's door then cool i vibe with that.
revoke my gaylor card if you will but tbh i don't give a ton of critical thought to her early pre-debut stuff. i don't have a good reason for ignoring it either, it's just a personal taste thing probably. if i'm going back to debut i simply hit play on our song and listen to "man i didn't kiss her and i should have" and let my lesbian brain go weeeeeeeeee!

Today (October 28th, 2020) marks one month on my gaylor bullshit and I swear things have never made so much sense.
I know I said that I’d be doing some total song analysis on both I Know Places and Illicit Affairs and I swear that it’s coming but I’m a college student with two giant papers to write. If they’re not here in the next two weeks, they’ll be here in early December once finals are over, I promise.
But today, since I feel a little more well versed in gaylor than I was a month ago, I wanted to share one reason why there is no doubt in my mind that Taylor isn't straight
(this might be long so I’m putting it under the cut)
For this, I’m not going to go into fandom theories (that obviously have so much evidence) but instead talk about three of my favourite songs and how they fit so well into my life as someone who isn’t straight,
A little background about me: I identify as queer which essentially to me means that I pretty much exclusively like women and some tiny part of me has known that since I was very small (even though I didn’t fully realize it until I was 15).
Now, onto the songs.
seven, Treacherous, and Dancing With Our Hands Tied. Three songs that have been really important to me ever since the first time I heard them. I know that these are three songs that are heavily associated with gaylor, but when I first heard them I never knew of any associations, they just perfectly matched things that I’d gone through myself.
I’ll start with seven. I’ll admit that seven didn’t click immediately with me when I first heard it, but I knew it was gay and that it felt familiar. Just around the time I was learning about gaylor, I realized why it mattered to me. Because the relationship described in the song is exactly the relationship I had with my best friend when I was seven, who I had a massive crush on. That, carefree, running around in fields, climbing trees, sitting on porches in the summer, vibe I get from the song, describes every year this girl and I were friends. She even had a swing at her house. And even though her dad wasn’t always mad, in a way, her mom was. And every time I hear seven now, even though I haven't seen this girl since I was 13, I still remember all those moments as if they were yesterday.
Moving forward in time, we reach Treacherous. I first got into RED the fall before I associated any songs with anyone but Treacherous was always a stand out for me. And then... it was the summer I was fifteen and the first time I consciously fell for a girl. I remember not understanding how I could feel anything for this girl  and yet... wanting to risk it all for this girl I’d known for only a few hours. I went home after, and listened to Treacherous and got the same feeling that I’d gotten with this girl, and, along with me remember all the gay things I’d done in my childhood, that’s how I slowly realized I wasn’t straight. To this day, I’ve always associated Treacherous with my queer relationships (and before I met that girl, I never associated the song with any of the boys I “liked”).
Finally, we’ve reached Dancing With Our Hands Tied, my number one stan song. I could go on for days about why this song means so much to me but I won't. reputation came out 17 days after I broke up with my ex and I was still so in love with her, and sad that we couldn’t be together anymore. I still remember exactly how I felt when I first heard Dancing With Our Hands Tied. By the time the first chorus rolled around, there were tears in my eyes. Never before had a song meant so much to me, nor had one so accurately described how it felt to be in a relationship with a girl who you loved so much, and who loved you the same, but you couldn’t say anything about the relationship because it might ruin everything good you had. I still listen to that song when I’m missing her and everything we had. I even cried at tour when Taylor played this song acoustic, because it just gutted me. I still cry whenever I hear the acoustic version. I don’t think any song will ever match the way I can relate to this song and what it means to me as a queer person.
Based on the songs alone, and how closely they relate to three big gay things in my life, there is absolutely no way that these songs that perfectly detail the queer experience in falling in love with your best friend as a child, to closeting as a teen and later as an adult, could be written by a straight person.
That’s just the way these songs make me feel. Okay, rant over. If you’ve read this, thank you, you’re amazing.

YNTCD & Brave: kaleidoscope heart---of memories ( a novel)
First and foremost as a disclaimer, I am a firm believer in Kaylor/Gaylor. If you are not a believer you best unfollow me right now because we are diving DEEP into the pits of speculation.
Dexter Mayfield was a featured dancer in YNTCD.
Tumblr media
This same Dexter Mayfield was a featured dancer in Sara Bareilles’ 2013 video for “Brave”—a song that was written by Sara and Jack Antonoff.
Tumblr media
Brave came out April 23, 2013. Sara was inspired from the struggles that a close friend dealt with in regard to coming out as an adult. The lyric video features a bunch of young girls (very 22 vibe) making music and taking POLAROIDS. Who do we know that likes to make music and take polaroids???--NONE OTHER THAN MISS TAYLOR MUTHA FUCKIN SWIFT
Tumblr media
The lyrics are really interesting:
You can be amazing
You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug
Taylor creates phrases with her lyrics that are often the constant discussion of debate. Could this also be future potential inspiration for the Don’t Blame Me lyric: My drug is my baby
You can be the outcast
Or be the backlash of somebody’s lack of love
Taylor is constantly facing backlash for her relationships ending badly.
Nothing’s gonna hurt you the way that words do
And they settle ‘neath your skin
The media and the GP mock Taylor and we know that Taylor is known to be sensitive (according to Todrick), which is why she doesn’t google herself.
youtube
Kept on the inside and no sunlight
Sometimes a shadow wins
Taylor is too afraid to be her true self with the public, which is why she is constantly surrounding herself with men. Shadows referring to her doubts about coming out. If we want to go REAL EXTRA DEEP and predict the future: daisies need sunlight and remember to “step into the daylight and let it go”
Tumblr media
Everybody’s been there, everybody’s been stared down
By the enemy
Fallen for the fear and done some disappearing
I see this as Taylor who in the past ignored the possibility of disappearing, but eventually during Rep came to the realization that disappearing is something she has to do. Everybody who's ever came out has had to do some soul searching. She planned her next step to being BRAVE enough to come out and disappeared before Reputation came out based on this advice from Sara.
Maybe there’s a way out of the cage where you live
Maybe one of these days you can let the light in
Tumblr media
I don’t think this foreshadowing and inspiration needs to be explained further...
Innocence, your history of silence
Won’t do you any good
Did you think it would?
Let your words be anything but empty
Why don’t you tell them the truth?
Taylor, as we know in her early days, was not vocal about her views and was very much portrayed as “America’s Sweetheart”-- innocent. Eventually she was scrutinized for it. Obviously, keeping her silence is something she can no longer do. Taylor can’t keep the act up...so, now we have this whole Lover Era where she is anything but silent. Let your words be anything but empty is definitely a reference to her songs that are about women that she masks as songs about boys.
Taylor sang Brave with Sara during the Red tour on August 19, 2013 at the Staples Center in LA. The performance is quite awkward. Taylor acts like an adorable fan girl.
Tumblr media
In her May 9, 2019 Entertainment Weekly interview Taylor says:
Tumblr media
“This time around I feel more comfortable being brave enough to be vulnerable, because my fans are brave enough to be vulnerable with me. Once people delve into the album, it’ll become pretty clear that that’s more of the fingerprint of this — that it’s much more of a singer-songwriter, personal journey than the last one.”
Umm...yeah, she said BRAVE
Both Sara and Taylor performed at Stonewall Inn on June 14, 2019. Sara sang Brave and Taylor sang Shake it Off.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stonewall Inn is shown in the YNTCD music video and now we have come full circle.
Tumblr media
After this Brave revelation I started digging deeper into other potential influences by Sara Bareilles on Taylor.
Taylor’s album RED came out October 22, 2012. Considering that Brave came out April 23, 2013 I think it’s safe to say the empty words Sara was referring to in Brave could be lyrics from RED.
Speaking of RED, did you know that Sara has a song called RED?????
youtube
“Red is a chapter about my year abroad living in Italy. I spent my junior year at UCLA abroad… living in Bologna, Italy. It was an incredible year but also a very emotional and isolating year. And it was going through those difficult things for the first time that actually solidified my relationship to music as a songwriter. So it was me discovering Joni Mitchell and discovering my own voice as a songwriter.”
youtube
“For me the song Red, as soon as I wrote that, that was the turning point for the record. That was when I realized this could be something different, this could be something unique. This is a song that makes me open up all of my ideas of the possibilities of where this album could go. It’s a song about a relationship that was wrong and difficult and complicated and hard and impossible; but you can’t forget about it, because it was Red... and it was passionate and in a lot of ways. It touched you in a more real way than you had ever experienced before and I think that kind of relationship really inspired a lot of the songs on this record.”
youtube
“The Lucky One is a song that I wrote while I was in Australia; and it kind of talks about some of my fears, through telling the story of other people I was inspired by. But, more than their stories being told I’m pretty much singing what I’m scared of in that song...Ending up kinda caught up in this whole thing and lonely and feeling misunderstood and feeling that when people think you’re lucky you’re really not. So, it kind of expresses my greatest fear of having this not end up being fun anymore of having this end up being a scary place. And some people get there. Some people end up there. So, it’s a story song and it’s something I’m really proud of because it kind of goes to a place that I’m terrified of. “
Both Sara and Taylor share feeling of loneliness. Is Taylor lonely and feeling misunderstood as a gay woman in a straight world?? We also need to remember that eventually Taylor did go off the grid so she could see what her life would be like if everything was gone.
Taylor, like Sara, is a fan of Joni Mitchell:
youtube
Even as a child.. (for some reason I can’t insert the video but follow the link to watch Taylor sing River as a child)
It's coming on Christmas,
They're cutting down trees.
She grew up on a god damn Christmas tree farm!
I'm gonna make a lot of money
Gonna quit this crazy scene.
She’s going to be a successful singer and leave her small (christmas tree farm) town life.
She tried hard to help me,
She put me at ease.
She loved me so naughty,
made me weak in the knees.
Tumblr media
I'm so hard to handle,
I'm selfish and I'm sad.
Now I've gone and lost the best baby
That I've ever had.
Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on
Tumblr media
The song is about the breakup of a romantic relationship and longing to escape her emotional bonds as they are painful to her. She tried hard to help me, She put me at ease could, for Taylor, refer to her mother... but She loved me so naughty, made me weak in the knees could very well be a first girl crush that broke Taylor’s heart.
Are you still here?? Ok, next you have Joni’s song Blue (losing him was blue like I’d never known)
Songs are like tattoos
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You know I've been to sea before
Crown and anchor me
Or let me sail away
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean, COME ON, she’s going to sea...possibly drowning from her “anchor” and is wearing a BLUE dress.
Ink on a pin
Underneath the skin
An empty space to fill in
As we remember from Brave: Nothing’s gonna hurt you the way that words do, And they settle ‘neath your skin . Also doesn’t an empty space sound like a BLANK SPACE?
And how many times has Taylor referenced some sort of crown? A LOT!
Now my readers, if you are still with me (I know this is a lot), let’s discuss Sara’s album Kaleidoscope Heart because we all know how much Taylor loves her kaleidoscope references.
Walkin' through a crowd, the village is a glow
Kaleidoscope of loud heartbeats under coats
“I think when it's all over it just comes back in flashes, you know? It's like a kaleidoscope of memories; it just all comes back. But he never does."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kaleidoscope Heart was released on September 7, 2010--plenty of time for Taylor to become influenced by it for RED, a little over 2 years later, and now ME!.
Sara says,
“I love the imagery of those words, and they’re really representative of how I envision my heart. It's a colorful but fragmented, ever-changing sum of all the bits and pieces that make it up. A kaleidoscope is the tool that helps make sense of the mess. Or at least makes it nice to look at."
Taylor’s mess is of course her relationships. The bits and pieces that she is trying to make sense of and make to look nice are her pubic dating persona (with men) and her private dating life (with women).
According to this article that got its information from Google:
A dream of a kaleidoscope "refers to a connection to your childhood". The kaleidoscope symbolizes a "release of blocked creativity and gives you the opportunity to see yourself in the bigger scope of life."
Going back to Taylor’s EW interview she shares her admiration for (very gay) King Princess...
Tumblr media
nostalgic adjective
a : longing for or thinking fondly of a past time or condition
b : evocative of a longed-for past time or condition
King Princess sounds like a connection to childhood if you ask me. Taylor’s released block is obviously the fact that she has to write these straight songs when she’d rather be BRAVE and write about her truth.
IN CONCLUSION:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is probably just a coincidence but Todrick just announced that he’s going to be in Waitress—a broadway musical composed and lyrics written by SARA BAREILLES

Hey! I was wondering who your favourite kaylor/Gaylor blogs are? Are there any that have been in the fandom that are gone or don't post as much anymore you miss? 😃
so many blogs and friends, stick around and you’ll get a feel for things, i think! i also have a lot of great mutuals who aren’t necessarily active but we still have great talks via messages. i think, especially in recent years, kaylor’s real strength is in this string of one on ones that a lot of us have with one another. expressing deep thoughts or sharing joy and findings and humor as we carry on
as for blogs that are gone that i miss, as a kaylor i’m obligated to say @justprocaffeinating ! .. well we didn’t really overlap but i remember when i first got here in rep era it was really fun to scroll through, it gave me a sense of what that early era of tumblr kaylor was like and the value of a positive vibe ♥️

i didnt knwo that you were a taylor swift fan... PS she's not gay and kaylor is dead
oh lol i’ve been a casual fan i guess? like the idea of fandom is so foreign to me now bc the only time i established myself part of a fandom was in my early hs days as a glee fan and harmonizer post x factor and like i dont call myself a swifty lmao
anYWAYS i’ve been a casual fan as in like listening to her stuff since speak now onwards but not rlly bc i wasnt feelin the whole country thing and i actually started paying attention to her post red-tour and i liked how red gave me pop vibes so when she officially transitioned to pop with 1989 i was feelin it and now reputation is like the only thing ive been listening to the past few days my family’s getting annoyed w/ me by the amount of times i sing the songs
u believe what u want to believe im here for gaylor swift and get outta here with u talking shit about kaylor i dont even want to touch on this topic im going to get super salty
good night thank u for this but i didnt need it

ever since the jaylor break up, i've been seeing a lot of swifties become receptive to gaylorism subtly — for instance, they're more willing to accept when songs radiate queer vibes and they're hopping on the "boyfriend taylor" trend even though that's kind of our joke 🤣 as much as it annoys me a little to see swifties act like they're the pioneers of something us gaylors, kaylors, and related sub communities have come up for years now, i would hate to gatekeep it as that'd create an obstacle in their path to actual gaylorism, you know?
oh dear im sorry anon i went on a free-form tangent that i’m pretty sure isn’t aligned with your ask but i’m gonna keep it anyway because i wrote a lot 😆
i know what you mean about the attitudes and i do agree that sometimes it can feel annoying to see people lift things from tumblr, for example, and then these people get credited for the idea by their peers and they don’t correct or cite sources, which can be awkward
and sometimes i will see people reinvent the wheel when the answers are already available and written better here by all of us.. and i want to be like! come here!! there are some incredible things for you to find here!! you know? i know these feelings can often come off as gatekeeping, and, because i don’t really have any big issue with things spreading like folklore because that can become a haze to hide in, i do agree with you that it’s best not to try to micromanage things in general.
here’s the tangent… your ask made me think about how there were similar patterns to this in spring-early summer 2019, as lover promo was rolling out and it (the promo) was markedly optically gayer than rep. i remember seeing an incredible heel turn from some otherwise notoriously hostile swifties, where suddenly they were like yeah maybe taylor is bi, etc. i also remember there being a whole new generation of wide eyed gaylors on tumblr at the time—because taylor was still here—and so many were in my inbox and my friends inboxes asking and researching and it was all good and fun for the most part..
so i will say this from the perspective of someone that has experienced mass onboarding in the past and has seen how it can and cannot work
contemporarily speaking, kaylors can’t really gatekeep gaylorism. because we’re kinda already gatekept from gaylorism by Gaylorism tastemakers. lowercase g gaylorism exists in concept but i think that as it currently stands, it’s actually a pretty on-rails ride that is curated by some that would seek to influence their own worldview onto gaylorism subtly, that positions an onboarding to their benefit. and i don’t think it’s something always done with strategic intentions.. humans tend to want to tell and guide others to what they believe is right, and strive for an environment that works for them as opposed to against them, it’s human nature in a way.. still, Gaylorism presents gaylorism as something objective but, it’s actually done pretty subjectively, imo.
and i haven’t minded standing on the periphery as a kaylor because, one, i think that it’s better in some cases to gatekeep (or keep niche) parts of kaylor because, given it is true, taylor and karlie probably don’t want it going full-on mainstream. at least not right now. so i might see rumors or theories that make up stuff or use incorrect dates or just in general takes that feel so wrong and needing correction but i try to accept it existing as a way for lots of otherwise clever people to be distracted from seeing what kaylors see.
and also, i think it’s best for people interested in kaylor to come to conclusions on the basis of their own research, and at times be incorrect, yes, but for it to be first and foremost something people come to believe of their own volition. because if it’s directed under one tent pole then weird interpersonal dynamics can happen, as is the nature of fandom.. id rather a thousand people have all different slightly incorrect understandings of kaylor but an understanding that is unified by and grounded in love for taylor and karlie, than a thousand people have the same understanding of kaylor but for people’s feelings to be defined by one single source.
and separately, i worry about trying to make kaylor too approachable or to not gatekeep (maybe the word isn’t “not gatekeep” maybe the word is “overshare”) certain ideas because of the sensitivity of the subject matter. if kaylor gets too mainstream then you get a huge wave of people and statistically some of them will inevitably be people that are into kaylor not for the girls but because its the trendy thing to do. that can lead to a disconnect wherein people engage with kaylor as an endeavor for us to analyze and not an idea that is grounded in the lives of real people. and that disconnect can produce frenzied behavior…
sorry i don’t have a good way to tie these feelings together into one conclusion but basically, i don’t think we as kaylors can really gatekeep gaylorism but i think that’s fine and i also think that at times kaylor might benefit from holding back a little and maybe that difference is because of what each thing has as an end game, maybe. if that makes sense.. yeah.
i think what i mean to point out is, i think there has been an influx in people who see gaylorism as a concept without orchestrators, for better or for worse. the word gaylorism didn’t exist even three years ago, and nobody new seems to know why or think about it. for better or for worse.

Whenever kays/gaylors/hays/whatever tf use the fact that komh was written in early september (before t and joe got together officially) as some sort of proof that the song is not about him it makes me so confused cause the song sounds EXACTLY like the desperation and messy feelings of wanting someone you are obsessed with but you don’t have them yet. the whole “i’ll never let you go” when you don’t even have the person yet is so relatable when you are idealizing things like... it tracks 100%
Yeah to me Rep is very clearly the OTT vibes when you’re like “!!!!! I AM SO IN LOVE!!!!!!!!” not like a commentary on an established relationship, same as Enchanted to me is that feeling you get when you have a fleeting moment with someone while drunk off your face. KOMH isn’t “wow I’ve loved you three summers now honey but I want them all” it’s “!!!! BABY ALL AT ONCE THIS IS ENOUGH PLEASE DON’T GO AWAY PLEASE LET’S MAKE THIS ONE WORK” which fully tracks with Swiftwyn idk.
There are some songs on Rep that are bombastic af and don’t quite sound like other songs about them but GIVEN SHE WAS WRITING AS A CHARACTER that isn’t surprising to me at all.

t 2017 playlist analysis
Alright folks, whether you’re newly indoctrinated in the swiftgron faith, or have been here for a while, buckle up because boy is there crack coming your way.  It should be important to note that these are of course reaches and should be taken with a grain/pound of salt.  What you’re about to read is a lyrical analysis of a playlist made by Dianna on her private spotify, titled ‘t 2017.’  Therefore, the only real ‘evidence’ we have to make connections lies in the lyrics, and the general vibe of the playlist.
The following lyrical analyses stems from the idea that Taylor and Dianna may, and I strongly say may have hooked up, possibly around late 2016, or early 2017 (right when this playlist was made).  If you haven’t already, I highly suggest reading Cam’s Swiftgron timeline that she has meticulously and laboriously outlined for all of us, so you have more background knowledge on any reaches/connections made.  Also listen to her pod for extra serotonin cause I know you bitches want it.  Anyway, I digress– I’ll be pointing out only the songs/lyrics that I think are most relevant (and to make this post shorter, I apologize in advance) but I urge y’all to take a look at each songs’ lyrics to see for yourself, because some of these songs seem loud af.  Ok happy reading!
Genesis- Grimes
My heart, I never feel I never see I never know Oh, heart And then it falls And then I fall And then I know
This verse talks about the unpredictable nature of love, you never know when those feelings could come rushing in, and there could be days when you feel like you’re never going to love again– gives me cowboy like me vibes with that particular sentiment.
Home and I know Playing the deck above It’s always different I am the one in love
Ok I don’t think this one needs any explanation other than tis the damn season.
1998- Chet Faker
We used to be friends We used to be inner circle I don’t understand What have I become to you
This verse is giving me major the 1 vibes– “rosé flowing with your chosen family” kinda thing.  Relationships (yes, even hookups) are hard, especially when you go from knowing someone like the back of your hand, to a being a mere memory.  It’s even harder when you run in the same social circles and are bound to bump into each other.  What are you to do with all those unresolved emotions/lack of closure?  I just find this a bit funny because two years later at SNL, Dianna is actually considered Taylor’s ‘inner circle’ at the afterparty.
Drops- Jungle
When you’re so high, you When you fall from the sky, you So come down from the clouds Come down on me
I’ve been loving you too long
I’ve been loving you too long
This song sort of encapsulates the feeling of love that is intoxicating, one might even say addicting.  In that sense, I’m getting major Style vibes, in that they keep coming back to each other because of that high and intoxicated love.  More than anything, this verse reminds me of Clean, and of course Dianna’s infamous tweet, “withdrawals…clearly we had fun” (see Cam’s swiftgron masterpost/timeline for receipts).
Ritual Union- Little Dragon
Straight off the bat, this song gives off major infidelity vibes (something Taylor has been obsessed with as evidenced by Evermore, and of course Babe which btw had a lot of social media signalling/shenanginas happening in 2017/2018).  Perhaps Winston was the cuck after all and we did get a swiftgron hookup?
Ritual union’s got me in trouble again I was wonderin’ of a white dress And the mistress And a spirit holding my hand!
You do the math with that one– ivy anyone?
Daniel- Bat For Lashes
Daniel when I first saw you I knew that you had a flame in your heart And under our blue skies Marble movie skies I found a home in your eyes We’ll never be apart
I only have two words to explain this verse– Begin Again
But in a goodbye bed With my arms around your neck Into our love the tears crept Just catch in the eye of the storm
With this verse in particular, there’s this sense of a heartbreaking parting of ways in a relationship.  It feels eerily similar to This Love– “your kiss, my cheek, I watched you leave.”  There’s also a mention of a storm, and we all love a good old storm in the swiftgron universe (Clean, DBATC, CIWYW).
Can’t Do Without You- Caribou
I swear to god these are the only two lyrics
Can’t do without
I can’t do without you
Make of that what you will.
Touch- Shura
This was the song that had me fully convinced that swiftrgon might’ve hooked up again in the recent past.  It’s so fucking loud and I did audibly gasp when I read these lyrics.  I’m so tempted to post the entire song because honestly every lyric fits their narrative almost to a t, but I’ll try putting the loudest lyrics here.
There’s a love between us still But something’s changed and I don’t know why And all I wanna do is go home with you But I know I’m out of my mind
This love is good, this love is bad.  This slope is treacherous, I like it.  If the hookup did happen, it’s clear that it’s a bit hard to just pick up immediately from where you left off.  Of course there’s still a lot of love there, it just takes time for those years to melt away.
I wanna touch you but I’m too late I wanna touch you but there’s history I can’t believe that it’s been three years Now when I see you, it’s so bittersweet
Ok this is basically swiftgron’s story right here, I mean come on?!?
I’m running down a dream like Tom Petty, I’m a heartbreaker But then you changed up a relationship, I’m mostly bankrupt There’s a new kid on your block, I gotta hang tough
Cowboy like me anyone?
Yeah, the effect of touch hands is like a miracle How is it you’re halfway across the world when I’m still feeling you? Just a touch of my love, just a little bit Ain’t no love without trust, we gotta deal with this
Gives me treacherous and wonderland vibes– “I’ll do anything you say if you say it with your hands” and “you searched the world for something else to make you feel like what we had.”
iT- Christine and the Queens
I feel like this song gives off major Reputation vibes– controlling your narrative/ ridiculing what other people thought you were, etc.
With it I become the death Dickinson feared With it I’m the red admiral on his ship And I raise with infants for my coronation I’ve ruled over my all my dead impersonations
‘Cause I’ve got it I’m a man now
Sunday Love- Bat For Lashes
This is a literal weekend hookup anthem (major tis the damn season vibes) and is also one of the other songs that convinced me of the swiftgron hookup.  Again, please look at all the lyrics and deduce for yourself and freak out like I did, but I’m putting the loudest lyrics down.
See her in blue eyes Numb and shining In the face of strangers In the city lights Where he’s climbing Cupid’s diving And I know that she’s come To spend the night
She is in my bedroom Now I can’t fight
Blue eyed lady coming to your house to fuck you. Ok Dianna, real subtle with that. I’m joking but I snorted when I saw this lyric.
I see her in every place I go Sunday love is so cold Even though I’m falling apart I want Sunday love in my heart
You could call me babe for the weekend cause it’s the damn season.  Also “I see you everywhere the only thing we share is this small town.”
Sweet Talk- Jessie Ware
There’s never any doubts when i need you It’s just that you can always make me feel like I am slipping in way too deep And let the shadows hope to hide or break the dreaming, dreaming of us
The vibe of this song is that there’s someone who always pulls you in because they know exactly what to say.  They found wonderland and got lost in it.
Dear To Me- Electric Guest
When it’s bad Feels like I don’t know which way I should go But over time I come back and remember The one thing that I know
You’re dear to me and I know
I know I’ve tied so many songs to ttds, but I guess it’s all the more reason to claim that one for swiftgron nation?  This verse reminds me of  “the road not taken looks real good now, and it always leads to you and my hometown.”
Got It Bad- Leisure
This song was added much later to the playlist on Taylor’s birthday in 2019. All other songs were added early feb of 2017.  With this song, I don’t get much except cowboy like me vibes.
Got our different ways with the same old payout Had our own dreams with the same old outcome Had a bad extreme and the same old break down Worked it to the bone with the same old habit
Et voila, that’s the end! I know this was super long so thanks for sticking through.  Again please note that these reaches were made because we are a little biased through a swiftgron lens.  It’s very possible that Dianna simply likes these songs and put it on a playlist, but let’s be real, gays practically communicate through spotify.  This is not fact and not proof for anyone to hound Dianna or invade in her or Taylor’s personal life, this is just for swiftgron fun.  That said, I’m personally inclined to believe that something did happen between Taylor and Dianna in 2017 possibly.  That’s all I have to say, thanks!
