i think the power of three was built to be a character driven episode that focuses more on the inner workings of amy and rory's life and how that affects their relationship with the doctor, but they they also added a huge plot to solve for no reason. major anticlimax with the actual plot of the episode, but very interesting character motivations. they should have saved the cubes plot for an episode that could direct proper time for it and this episode should have had another reason for the doctor to stick around on earth for so long (something lower stakes like the lodger) so that the underlying character driven story can breathe.

River was SO excited that their times lines matched up. Imagine breaking out of prison being like hell yes my time traveler husband is finally on the same date as me. Reliving your childhood trauma, seeing your husband die and then your husband rocks back up and he's barely even your boyfriend now

I really really really really hate how the episode in which amy is forced to give birth - not even KNOWING she was pregnant until that very moment - is so completely focused on the doctor and melodie/river (as in: the child) but doesn't even really consider amy's feelings outside of "am mother now". and then to have her become infertile from the experience????????????? I wanna SCREAM

so you know how some people say things like "yaz has no consistent personality trait" yadda yadda?

has any of those people ever questioned the fact that amy suddenly makes a sonic screwdriver in the girl who waited, without ever being characterised as scientific or good at engineering? or how it seems she suddenly released a line of perfume in closing time, and nobody questions how or why she's suddenly in the cosmetics business? how does nobody question that?

and i'm saying that as someone who's always liked amy, she's a decent companion, resourceful and fun. the only thing i'm talking about is the inconsistency of the writing.

I know the “canon” thing behind door 11 in the god complex was the crack but To Me it was actually the veiled corpse. it works far better for s6′s arc than the crack, a plot point which has more symbolic ties to amy than the doctor and doesn’t even come up again until over a season later. the whole Thing in 6b is the doctor running away from dying at lake silencio until he finally accepts it - at the end of this very episode! and that corpse is the embodiment of his fear of death! that's the entire reason it was in the confession dial to begin with!

The “weird pregnancy” sci-fi trope is one that I don’t love. In Amy’s case particularly, I think it uses a woman’s body to further a plot without ever truly grappling with the horror of what happens to her.

A Good Man Goes to War is not only one of the best episodes Doctor Who has ever done, it may very well be one of the best pieces of television period, and is one of the best deconstructions and subversions of the 'man avenges woman by making it all about him and his anger' trope and tells it succinctly to fuck right off.

i am also doing a DW rewatch because of the specials (i missed the entirety of 13's run except the first episode! i need to see her!) but i jumped in from s5 because i've seen everything from s1 to s6 hundreds of times cause i have the dvds of those (but i couldn't skip river) and now your rose posts are sincerely making me want to stop where I am (nearly through bill's season!) and go back and watch from the start because i miss rose and i miss watching ten stare at rose like she was the most perfect thing in the universe.

HOW did i not know you’re also besotted with river (as all people should always be)????? TASTE HONESTLY. i haven’t done a full watch in a really long time, so a lot of this is stuff i only sort of remember, which makes it VERY FUN — and i am so glad to hear i am rekindling the rose flame bc she deserves it and she is precious.

3 favourite ships: buffy x faith, buffy x spike, buffy x cordelia (also special mention to spike and dru bc literally WHO is doing like them. they said we're just gonna redefine your definition of love & vampirism on this show real quick. they said what if we're just a wifeguy & his vampiric seer wife and we were sooo insanely devoted 2 each other n also hot <3)

Least favourite character: oh many!!! my first thought was warren and i'm sticking with it

Least favourite ship: hmmm i don't really like buffy x riley, no surprise, i also don't like buffy x xander, i think that's about it???

Reason why I watch it: buffy summers is the actual love of my life i'd trust her with my life more readily than anyone else fictional or real <3 okay but also bc it's gotten a hold on my brain that literally no other show has done it is literally changing my brain chemistry it is so good it is so rich in neurodivergent and queer characters. i love characters with Such Issues <3

Why I started watching it: my sister watched it and i just started watching with her sometime and then i was like wait. this is actually cool i need 2 go back to the start and see everything

Reason why I watch it: it's my favourite show it's my special interest it's soooo !!!!! i love doctor who so much i've rewatched it plenty of times, it says such beautiful things about being human, space but mostly about LOVE !!! life is all about the beautiful things and having a friend actually so true <3

Why I started watching it: my best friend watched heaven sent years ago when i came over and she said hey do you mind me finishing up this episode while we eat lunch and i was immediately intrigued and then watched all seasons <3 she literally changed the trajectory of my life forever <3
