When you agreed to go to Duskwood, you had no idea what you were getting yourself into. You had assured Jake that you'd never go there, but that was no longer the case. He as well promised you that he wouldn't just vanish once this was over, but just after the accident in the mine, he didn'tansweredyour texts.
Lilly told you that both he and Richy had been declared dead, but they couldn't possibly do this to you, could they?
Jake assured you that everything would be fine. And what about Richy? He promised you that he would no longer run away. And although you didn't want to think about that, they never replied, and you eventually gave up on both of them..
When the bus finally came to stop, however, all of your worries disappeared.
"Last stop, Duskwood!", the bus driver yelled.
Everybody was rushing to get out of the vehicle as soon as possible. Duskwood attracted a great number of tourists after the night, which has been a part of your nightmares ever since. So you were happy to get off the bus. It took you some time to find your friends because of the large number of people at the bus stop right now, but you eventually did.
"There she is." Dan grinned and immediately took your luggage after a quick hug.
Jessy quickly took his place, followed by Cleo, Lilly, Thomas, and Hannah. You thought it was crazy to see them in person now. Hannah in particular. After the incident, you wrote with her. She was quite lovely, and you got along well so far.
Jessy grinned when she said, "It's so good to actually see you in person."
Even though, two males a little further away drew your attention, you all started walking away from the bus stop . You still took a moment to look at them. Both were wearing hoodies and buried their hands deep in their pockets. Their hoods were tucked down far enough that you couldn't see their faces. They appeared identical to one another since there was nothing remarkable about them. The only thing that separated them was their height, as well as the color of their hoodies. The taller of the two was dressed in a light-blue hoodie, while the other was wearing a black one. You just continued walking, regardless of how strange they were. Given how odd Duskwood was in general, it wasn't surprising.
Everyone thought it'd be a great idea to celebrate your arrival, so the first stop was Phil's bar.  Even Phil was overjoyed to meet you in real life. He  flirted with you whenever he wasn't busy with other customers. The rest of your friends sat a little further away from you so you could have some alone time with the bartender.
"Action or horror?" he asked.
He's been doing this for several hours. He'd pick two options for you to choose from, and you'd have to choose which one you preferred.
"I think it depends on the movie."
"Chocolate or Dogs?"
You laughed. "That isn’t even the same category anymore."
Phil smiled at you before he served a random guy a drink. But it wasn't just any random guy; it was the one with the black hoodie from the bus stop. He still wore it and his hood was still pulled up, but you didn’t want to ask him about it.
"You haven't answered yet." Phil leaned over the counter with a smirk on his face.
"Hmm, I'm not sure... Perhaps chocolate dogs?"
"Way to go."
"So, do you know who this person is?" You nodded to the guy, who was sitting a few tables away with his blue hoodie-wearing companion.
 He shrugged. "This is the first time I've seen them here. They're strange, but I don't see why they shouldn't stay as long as they don't cause any problems."
"I saw them at the bus stop, too."
"Perhaps they noticed the same gorgeous girl I did and followed her, hoping she would notice them too."
"You think? But I didn’t recognize anyone else from the bus stop except my friends. "
Maybe you weren’t the best at flirting, but Phil liked it and laughed it off.
"I'm talking about you, silly."
"Oh... I- thank you."
"Well, as much as I like seeing my brother and best friend joyfully flirting with one another, we'd want to spend more time with Y/n as well." Jessy grinned and dragged you back to their table.
Phil was mad at first, but the customers managed to divert his attention.
"You see those guys?"
Jessy pointed that out after you sat down. She wasn't directing her comments at random individuals; she was directing them towards the hooded dudes.
"Um, yeah, they were at the bus stop."
"Good," Cleo sighed, "so you recognized them as well."
"We didn't say anything sooner because we didn't want to scare you," Lilly explained.
"We were being followed. They also never let you out of their sight. "Dan, too, made a point.
"That's something Phil mentioned as well. He claimed it's possible they think I'm attractive or something. Maybe I should just talk to them? "
"Are you insane?" Lilly inquired.
"After all, what should they do? You and Phil are watching me closely. It would also be better if we knew what they want. If they actually intended to harm me, they'd follow me around until I'm alone anyway. Oh, and look at that; Alan Bloomgate himself appears to be in the mood for a drink. "
You pointed at the door, which had just been opened by the police officer.
Dan shrugged. "She's right. We are at least eight against two if something goes wrong."
"That's a yes, in my opinion. Nothing will happen."
You gave them a kind grin before heading over to the hooded men. Phil saw you moving and decided to go over in five minutes, just in case there was something wrong.
"Hi.", you simply said when you sat down on the empty chair.
"I assumed you'd be over here an hour ago," said a voice you're all too familiar with.
Even though you would never hear it again. But here he was. Richy.
"Richy? Jake? Is that really you?" you wondered.  You've already realized that the other person must be Jake. Otherwise, who would Richy be going out with? When everybody assumed they were dead.
"As much as we enjoy seeing you. It would be better if you didn't mention our names. "
"I-... Okay, I get it. You were declared dead. But then why didn't you write me? "You promised not to just disappear," you said to Jake before turning your attention to Richy. "And how about you?  Didn't you say you weren't going to run away any longer?" "
"It's a long story, and we'll tell you everything," Jake replied. "Someday."
"When you say someday, what do you mean exactly? For a month, I believed you were dead. Do you have any idea what I was going through? I thought I'd have lost you, and now you want to tell me about it "someday"?!
"We're sorry, Y/n, but this isn't the right place for a discussion like that," Ricky said, looking down at the table when Phil approached them.
"Is everything okay here?", he asked, more Y/n than the other two.
"It turns out you were right." You stood up with a fake smile on your face. "They're weird."
"Wait!" Richy called out to you in a deeper voice, hoping Phil wouldn't recognize him.
In his hand, he had a piece of paper. You were furious, but you wanted to give them a chance to explain themselves, and the piece of paper most likely had a phone number on it, or at the very least a location and date where they wanted to meet, so you accepted it. You returned to your friends after following Phil back to the counter and thanking him.
"And? How did it go?", Cleo asked.
"They're just a bunch of jerks. There's nothing to be concerned about."
You remain in the bar for a little longer, until Phil closes for the day. He also gave you a tour of your new "apartment."  He had a free one over his bar, that you could use. Because you owned your own little business and didn't need to work from home, you could stay here as long as Phil was okay with it. You and your friends agreed to meet up the next day, before they went home too.
You were ready to go to bed after a brief shower, but something stopped you. The ringing of your doorbell kept you up. Who rang your doorbell at two in the morning? Normally, only your friends would be aware that you were there, and they would all be at home. They made sure of it by writing messages once they arrived.
But who could it possibly be? Fortunately, Phil's door featured a peephole, so you could see who was bothering you without having to open the door. However, when you looked through, you saw... nothing.

"Yes!" Jessy exclaims. "Haven't you mentioned that name before?"
You hummed, maintaining a composed exterior while your thoughts raced with utter excitement. To say you were surprised would be an understatement.  "I've been after Ted for a while now."
"How fitting!" She exclaimed, "I'm sure the missing file is that of the AMC Gremlin. And that Ted Madruga signed that exact file."
She hit the spot right on. "Which means he is the owner of the Gremlin." You turn to her with eyes lighting up like a child getting his gift on Christmas. "This is a very good find, Jess!"
"You really think so?" she asked, her smile matching your enthusiasm.
"Hmm, we finally bridged the gap between Hannah and Ted." You told her. But something is still missing. If it's not Hanson, it could have been Ted, but he's in prison. The reason why is still unknown to you. But it couldn't have been because of the murder of Jennifer because it would seem whatever the culprit is doing is nonsensical if the killer is already found.
"Ted must have stolen the file." She assumed. "Because it would have incriminated him!"
You hummed thoughtfully, a hint of skepticism in your voice, "possible, but Ted's in prison."
"He is?" she questioned. "How sure are you about that?"
You paused. You haven't really thought about it that often. Back then, you were satisfied with Jake's findings about him. Plus, Lilly has already traced him all the way to prison.
“Based from what we gathered, we know he’s in prison,” you answered truthfully. “But right now, I’m not so sure.”
But you're sure it got to mean something. If Hannah ran over Jennifer using the AMC Gremlin that Ted owns, will that be the reason he's in prison? And the reason she tried to contact him is to admit the crime she did.
"Maybe he just sent someone else to steal the file for him?" You were snapped from your silent stupor when she spoke again. And then she added, voice cracking for a bit, "Y/n... is this why Richy has to die?"
Grabbing her hands, you shook your head. "He's not dead, Jess. We're going to find him, okay? Richy's strong. He's got to be with Hannah." That was the mantra you kept repeating in your head. As long as there's no body, you will refuse to believe he's dead.
You spent the next few minutes calming Jessy down, and probably yourself, too. As of now, Richy is still a sensitive topic for both of you. And you still can't erase the image of his blood coming out of his mouth, asking for your help and you have no choice but to watch.
"Hey... I need to discuss this with Jake first." You announced after a while. You're sure he'll find this information useful. "Will you be okay to watch over for a sec?"
"Of course." she nodded.
You squeezed her hands for the last time, smiling at her warmly. "You did really well, Jess."
She only smiled and squeezed back in appreciation.
Deciding to take a moment for yourself, you headed to the comfort room first, splashing cold water on your already pale and cold-to-the-touch face. Hopefully it would alleviate the persistent headache that seemed to have taken up residence.
Staring at your face on the mirror, you can't help but see your reflection staring back at you, with your face drenched with warm blood. It's been months since that incident happened and you can't seem to forget it. That day, you hoped it was actually your blood smearing your face, but it's not, and that's the horrible truth.
You shook your head to wipe away that memory, and all you can feel is the cold air against your damp face. No sightings of blood, only water.
Okay, focus on the task. You told yourself.
You stepped back outside the room and attempted to call Jake to share the news, but his line went straight to voicemail. You decided to let him be for a bit. He might be preparing some new leads you can focus on. You texted him the deets before pocketing your phone again. You went back to the room to find Jessy pacing back and forth. Seemingly nervous about something.
You approached her, worry drawing across your features. "Hey, Jess. You good?"
"Hey, Y/n." She looked startled, not expecting you to be back so soon. "You talked to Jake?"
"He's still busy," you replied with a casual shrug. "Anyway, are you okay? Something the matter?"
"Well, since you're already here..." she drawled on, tugging you towards the dresser. "I want to talk to you about something. Do we have time for that?"
That piqued your interest. Based on her behavior; sweaty palms, shaky hands and her twiddling her thumbs, and quivering lips, she is indeed nervous. But why?
"I know you're busy and all that but it's important— at least I think it is." She babbled, practically tripping on her every word.
She avoided your gaze, her eyes darting around the room. You gently caught her other hand, trying to get her to focus. "I can always find time for you. What's it about, hm?"
This time, she found herself looking at you. Her eyes held so much emotion in them that you were taken aback a bit. "Well, we can be open and honest with each other, right?"
"Of course, we can, Jess." You answered truthfully, not quite sure where this is heading. You chuckled, "What is it? You're making me nervous."
She groaned softly, using her free hand to cover her face in embarrassment.  "This is harder than I thought. And..." she sighed. "It's not exactly good timing either."
"Hmm, well, we don't have much good timing around here but I assure you it's not bad timing right now." You smiled warmly, encouraging her to go on. "You can tell me anything."
"Well..." she chews the bottom of her lips nervously, and you found your eyes wandering there. You mentally shook your head when you found yourself staring at her mouth, and why the hell you are thinking how her lips would feel like if you kissed her then. "I know you already told me that you don't like Cleo like that, but about Lilly. I kinda noticed you two are okay now, and I'm glad about that."
"But?" You encourage her to continue, sensing that there's more she wants to say.
"But, I was wondering if you like her? Y'know? Like like-like," she laughed nervously. "Haha, I guess I used the word 'like' too much in one sentence, but you do know what I'm talking about, right?" She rambled, avoiding eye contact once again.
You find it cute when she asks things like this. You were definitely catching onto where this conversation was headed, making you nervous as well.
"Are you jealous?" You teased, a playful glint in your eye. You bit your lip, trying to hold back a grin as you watched her reaction. You couldn't help but notice her eyes briefly flicker toward your mouth, making your smile grow wider. "Of Lilly?"
"No!" Her denial came fast. It would have been a bit believable if the color of her cheeks aren't rivaling her hair right now.
"You're blushing," you poke her cheeks, which she immediately swats away. You tried to lighten the atmosphere. Because she literally has nothing to fear about. You were never discreet about your feelings, and neither does she. Everyone knows what you feel about each other. You, who are supposed to be the embodiment of neutrality; always side with her at every chance possible to the extent Jake has to remind you each time to be objective with everyone, including with her. And she, the ever short-tempered redhead only ever calms down when you tell her to. "You're pretty cute when jealous, Jess."
"Just answer, okay?" She folded her arms, attempting to look indignant but failing miserably as her cheeks continued to burn bright. "And stop smirking!"
"Well, Lilly's a nice girl. A bit feisty but I guess that's a part of her personality." You told her, deciding to be serious now. To be honest, you don't have any idea why she'd thought you liked Lilly. You never liked her that way, not because you both started as enemies, but because you just never see her in a different light. Plus, Jake will probably kill you if you even dare to try and hit on his sister. "I see her as like my sister. She reminds me of my little sister back home. Why'd you ask?"
"Well..." She hesitated, her fingers nervously fidgeting with the hem of her blouse.
"You can tell me, Jess. You don't have to worry."
"I'm a bit scared to ruin our friendship, Y/n," she admitted bashfully, looking at you. Indeed you can see the fear in her eyes, and you want nothing more but to smooth the crease of worry across her forehead. But you also know how important this is for her. So, you opted to encourage her by flashing her a nice, warm smile to wash away whatever doubts she's feeling right now.
"Not gonna happen." You declared with finality. "Whatever it is you're gonna tell me, you're not losing me."
That must have been what she's been waiting to hear. From the look of uncertainty to determination. You waited patiently on what was about to happen. You had an idea, but you don't really want to set expectations for yourself.
She closed her eyes, inhaled sharply, and then blurted out "I have feelings for you, Y/n." This time, she opened her eyes, pure honesty and adoration dancing across them. "Like a lot. Pretty strong feelings."
For a moment, time seemed to stand still as her confession sank in. A rush of emotions flooded your chest, and you found yourself struggling to form coherent thoughts.
"You mean..." you managed to utter, your voice a mix of surprise and realization. "more than friendship?"
This woman, this incredible person in front of you, just said she likes you. A part of you before thought she was just being friendly with all the times you and her flirt back and forth. Hearing her say this wiped all your remaining doubts about yourself.
"Yeah..." she breathed.
You look down at her, and she stares back. The hypnotic swirls of brown and green in Jessy's eyes are stark and profound. At this close proximity, you can make out specs of gold in them reflecting the illumination of the lights. It almost reminds you of the setting sun, summer infused with a bit of spring. They remind you of forest and gentle flowers, allowing you to rest and breathe. You only then noticed the barely noticeable freckles dusting across her cheeks, and how they complimented her hazel eyes well.
You can't practically hide the adoration spreading across your features right now, but it doesn't seem that obvious to Jessy who was waiting for a response from you.
She carefully watched your expression, her brows furrowing as she saw a flicker of surprise in your eyes. Her face fell. Her hopeful expression began to waver, and disappointment crept into her features. "You see? Really bad timing! But it's always a bad time somehow."
Worried that she might be reading your reaction wrong, you swiftly reached out, your hands instinctively finding their place on her hips to steady her. "Hey, hey. Hey now. It's not a bad time, Jessy."
"What do you mean?" Your cheeks burned a bit by the close proximity, but she didn't seem to mind. "So, do you... like me back, or?"
"I have pretty strong feelings for you, too." You whispered as if it was some sacred secret you kept for a long, long time. "Really, really strong feelings."
She blinked, clearly taken aback by your response, her blush returning full force. "Oh."
"Yeah, 'oh'," you echoed with a soft laugh. "So, no need to be jealous of Lilly, alright? It's always been you, Jessy."
She let out a contented sigh, and without hesitation, she nestled herself against your collarbone. Your arms instinctively wrapped around her in a protective embrace, tucking her under your chin, and you wonder how you two seemed to fit like some sort of puzzle piece. Her warmth almost lulled you to the rest you achingly want to have. It made you think about how can you crave someone's touch whom you have never touched before.
"You don't know how I'm so relieved to hear that. I really, really haven't felt this way in a long time." She confessed in a mere whisper. "My last relationship didn't go so well, you know?"
"Would you like to talk about it?" You ask tentatively, afraid it's still a sour topic for her.
"He..." she paused, her voice faltering slightly, "cheated on me. After a three-year relationship."
"Name please, so I can punch whoever the bastard is." You joked half-heartedly and her giggles slightly rumbled against your chest. Though you took note of this conversation if ever the name of the idiot arises out of her, you'll definitely be smacking the living daylights out of him.
"Haha, you sounded like Dan just now," she teased, her laughter laced with warmth. "Don't worry, you might cross paths with him if you stay here in Duskwood longer."
"How did you find out?" You asked once more.
"He confessed it to me." You noticed her grip on you tightened a bit. "The day it happened."
"Wow," you can't help but remark in annoyance. "Did he expect some sort of reward for doing the bare fucking minimum?"
"He also apologized and said it meant nothing," she chuckled dryly. "That it was nothing but a mistake."
"Yeah, as if." You scoffed. This only adds to your growing list of reasons why you have to beat him up. "It always means something."
"I was stupid enough to believe him." She shook her head a bit like she can't believe she'd do something like that. "The following weeks were horrible. I was torn apart. I really wanted to forgive him. But it hurts so much."
"It's difficult to forgive an affair." You whispered.
Cheating is a matter of choice. There's no valid excuse in this world for it. For you, if you don't like your partner anymore, why can't you just be honest with it? Because selfish people like them want the best of both worlds. They only care for their own satisfaction, not for their partners, and definitely not for others.
You plant a gentle kiss on her hair to soothe her growing nerves. Even though she'd move on, it would still be difficult to talk about it, especially something like that. "You left him though, right?"
"I wish I had, Y/n." Jessy looked up at you, her eyes wandering, searching for something in your face. "Instead, I held on to our relationship but we just argued all the time. Because of everything. Until one day he just didn't come back. I guess," she sighed, "he realized that his mistake did mean something after all."
"I'm gonna punch him hard. I'll even take Dan with me." You declared, anger rising in you. It wouldn't really be bad to take Dan with you. You're sure he wants to give the cheating fucker a piece of his fist, too. "Anyway, do you know who the girl was?"
She shook her head. "I don't want to know. You know how small Duskwood is. So, I'm pretty sure I know her. And I was scared her name would be burned into my head forever."
"That makes sense." You hummed. "I'd still like to punch your ex in the face though."
"Haha, I think he does deserve a punch or two." she giggled a bit, and you're glad she's smiling again. You didn't like seeing anything but happiness in her. "Has anyone ever hurt you like that?" she questioned innocently, curiosity thick in her voice.
That question almost made you lose your smile, but you tried to keep it in place but still failed. No one had ever hurt you like that, and you were determined to keep it that way. But the thought of you hurting someone else? That was a different story. There were too many instances to count, but only one ranked to the very top and the only thing you regret doing. That horrible moment coming back to you like a fucking harbor wave.
"I've hurt someone before..." You confessed quietly.
She held your cheeks with gentleness. "I think you're incapable of such thing, Y/n."
"I couldn't protect her, Jess." You shook your head, lips quivering. "She... died because of me." You let out a harsh breath. Swallowing down the accumulating sob in your throat. "That's why I was so keen on going here after you got attacked. I can't afford to make that mistake again."
Imagine the panic you felt that time to the point Jake has to talk you out of it when you were already ready to pack your shit and go to Duskwood.
"I'm sure it was never your fault, Y/n," she whispered, her fingers tracing a soothing pattern on your cheek. You wanted so badly to believe her.
To tell her everything but it's too risky. But you couldn't, at least, not right now. There's too much at stake already but at the same time, you wanted to tell her the truth. You want to give her you're all even if you don't have it. When Jill died, it's as if you died alongside her. You couldn't do anything but blame yourself. You kept this wound for as long as it became a scar.
You fear the same would happen to Jessy, and you wouldn't know what the hell would you do if it happens for the second time around.
"But it felt like it is," you murmured. Your fingers instinctively reached out to brush a strand of hair from her face, your touch gentle and affectionate. "I have never felt this way for a long time, Jess. You made me feel like I can protect someone again. That I have someone to treasure."
It's true. After losing Jill in such a manner, you have convinced yourself that you couldn't protect anyone. So, you closed off to anyone that dares to try to get to you. Hell, you even wanted to quit your job. What's the point of saving others when you couldn't even save the person you cared the most about?
When you joined the group, you tried hard to stay aloof as possible, not believing you can actually solve this case. But when Jessy starts believing in you, it made you feel things again. That someone, despite not really knowing you that well, believes in you unconditionally. You tried to deny what you felt for her is just merely adoration, nothing else. But you couldn't fool yourself anymore.
"The first time I felt it," you went on. "I was afraid to act on my feelings because I thought you have something going on with Dan."
She was surprised at the mention of him. But you wanted to address the elephant in the room. It's pretty much obvious to everyone the silent rivalry going on between you and Dan. You're just both too headstrong to actually mention it, and decided to resort to sarcastic remarks to each other that is entirely not that insulting though. He has become your pal after all, and you like to assume that's what he sees in you, too. That's why both of you never actually showed hostility with each other regarding fighting for Jessy's attention.
"He's... a different story," she sighed, her gaze shifting as if lost in thought. "There's nothing going on, really. You already know we're all childhood friends, and he's just really overprotective of us girls. He began pursuing me after my ex and I broke up. But I wasn't really ready for any relationship, and then you came. And you make me feel like it doesn't feel bad to fall again anymore."
"Because I'll be there to catch you," you said, tucking a loose lock of red hair behind her ear. "Thank you, Jessy, for telling me this. It was never a bad timing when I spend time with you."
She smiled at that, making your lips quirk upwards as well. "I can't wait for all of this to be over, Y/n. I want to recreate that date with you. I'm sure the others will also want to spend time with you after this."
"Well, that depends if Miss Jessica Hawkins is willing to share me with the others." You wiggled your eyebrows.
"I don't really do sharing." She told you with a straight face before letting out a soft laugh. "Just kidding, of course, I'll let you spend time with them, as long as I'm included," she said with a wink.
"Well, I wouldn't mind having you by myself." You flashed her a charming smile.
She chuckled, playfully rolling her eyes. "Hmm, I might consider it if you promise not to flirt with every girl you meet in Duskwood."
You feigned offense, placing a hand over your heart. "Me? Flirt with other girls? Never!"
"Oh, I believe you," she teased back, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "But just in case, I'll be keeping a close eye on you."
"Deal," you replied, pretending to zip your lips with an invisible key. "You've got my word, and I promise to be the most well-behaved investigator you've ever seen."
She laughed, the sound like music to your ears. "We'll see about that."
Seeing her like this, all happy smiles and grinning eyes, for a second you thought that maybe, just maybe, everything will turn out okay.
Looking at the hazel eyes you have learned to love over the course of days, you realize you wanted to see them for the rest of your lives. This isn't exactly what you pictured yourself to meet her personally but that doesn't stop you to be enchanted by the mere presence of Jessica Hawkins. And you note to yourself that once this is all over, you'll give her the date you promised her before.
She stares at you for a minute, eyes searching for something in yours. And as if she finally found it, a small, tentative smile crept over her features. Her smile has always been your favorite. It's far by the prettiest thing you have ever seen in your life, for it extends to her eyes and deep into her heart. It was a rare sight to be seen and you always made sure to capture it with your own eyes.
Your eyes never left her own ones, unable to look away.
What was once a heart pounding like a drum in your chest, fast and hot in an uneven rhythm is now a heart steadily beating. It no longer feels like storms of uncertainties colliding in the middle of the ocean.
This love is calm and silent.
"Hey, um, would you mind if I..." she hesitated, her eyes wandering down your lips and then back up to meet your gaze.
"If you what—" you started to ask, but before you could finish your question, she closed the gap between you, eyes half-lidded. Like some sort of magnetic attraction, you find yourself drawing closer, her lips meeting yours in a gentle, tender kiss. It was like a spark igniting a fire, and all the worries and doubts seemed to fade away at that moment.
You wrapped your arms around her, pulling her closer as the kiss deepened. Her lips were soft and warm and you can literally feel yourself short-circuiting. However, the tingling of your stomach and pounding of your heart so violently against your chest like it wants to come out didn't stop you to pull her closer to you.
When you finally pulled away, both of you were breathless, but the smile on Jessy's face said it all. "Wow," she whispered, her eyes shining with happiness.
“Yeah,” you can only chuckle at her choice of words, staring back through drooping eyelids, seeing red dusting across Jessy’s cheeks. Your eyes wandered back to her lips, and then you met her gaze again. "Wow," You murmured with a dopey smile.
Lips still merely inches from yours, she breathed, “I adore you, y’know?"
“I adore you.” You whispered back, capturing her lips once again. "You."
~~~~~
The peaceful moment between you and her was shattered once again by a persistent notification from your phone. It felt like the universe was conspiring against your happiness, making every effort to interrupt your time together.
You had the temptation to silence your phone but you can't. Every notification right now is of utmost importance. But you cannot help but sigh, your moments with her are always being interrupted.
When you opened the notification, you saw an unknown person had added you and sent a link. Without thinking, you immediately pressed the attachment leading you to a footage of Hannah and Richy.
Your heart sank at the sight that greeted you.
Jessy must have noticed the sudden change in your expression. "Huh, what is it?"
"You have to see this," you managed to say. You're speechless. Just what the fuck? Both of them seemed unconscious, hands tied behind their back with a duct tape attached to their mouths. Seeing them treated like some sort of animal made your blood boil.
"Oh, my God!" She gasped. "They're both alive!"
"The others have to see this, shit." You fumbled over your phone. Immediately forwarding said attachment to the group.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"What the fuck is he planning now..." you murmured. This is an unpredictable move from Hanson. What is he expecting to get from this footage? That the others will barge in where he kept the two?
"We can save both of them, Y/n," she said beside you, feeling a bit more hopeful now. "They're both alive."
"Yeah..." You agreed, but you can't help but doubt, "but what the hell is Hanson planning now? Sending us this video?"
Tumblr media
"It is?" Jessy turned to you.
"Yeah, it said so in the domain." You replied, pointing her the video on her phone. "And you can also see the time in the bottom left of the corner."
Tumblr media
From the looks of it, they looked dosed, but you didn't want to jump to conclusions without more information. You knew that alarming them in their current state could potentially make the situation even more dangerous.
"Y/n," Jessy captures your attention again. Her entire demeanor has changed compared to her relaxed state before. You assumed seeing both of them alive arises the hope and motivation she thought she'd lost. "Can you send this to Alan? If he sees this I bet he's gonna want to help us again!"
You nodded, "Yes, I think I should." You sent him the attachment immediately. You waited for him to go online but unfortunately, he didn't. You cursed softly, "damn, he's not coming online."
"Oh, no..."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You immediately went back to you conversation with the chief. You had already sent him the link but he hasn't replied yet.
Tumblr media
"Uhm, Y/n." You felt a gentle tug on your clothes, and you turned to Jessy with a quizzical look. "There's something back there."
"What?" Without hesitation, you moved to her side, tugging her slightly behind a dresser to remain hidden from any potential outside observers. You couldn't risk being seen by Hanson or anyone else at this critical moment.
"There, you see it?" She pointed towards the window, and you squinted your eyes in an attempt to recognize what she was referring to. The darkness outside made it challenging to make out any details, but there was indeed a faint light source in the distance. It was so dim that you were not sure what you are looking at. "I'm not sure if it's in the forest or on the road. It's too dark, and far away."
"Shit," you murmured under your breath, your mind racing with possibilities. "Do you think it's him?"
"I don't know." She answered, unsure, typing harshly on her phone. You assumed she was updating the group on what you and her have scouted from afar. "It's really hard to tell. It looks like a lamp or something."
"No, I've seen the road leading to the cabin earlier. It's a dead-end. Whoever that is on the road, I'm sure they're headed right to us," you said, your voice tinged with rising alarm.
"It looks like this lamp is heading towards us."
As if on cue, the light that was barely noticeable at first began to grow brighter until suddenly, it went off. "Shit, the light's gone."
"That's probably Michael..." Jessy tried to steady her shaking breath, attempting to suppress the panic that threatened to overwhelm her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Indeed, the light had drawn significantly nearer. Fear enveloped you like a palpable, living force, paralyzing your senses. It felt as though a bloodthirsty beast had wrapped its claws around you, holding you captive in its grip. You're not necessarily scared by him, but the fact you might fuck this up.
"There, again!" Jessy's voice trembled with fear as she pointed out the light source. Her panic was contagious, and you couldn't help but feel the surge of anxiety yourself. "Y/n, it's a lot closer than it was before!"
You took a deep breath, forcing yourself to regain composure. You couldn't afford to succumb to unnecessary fear.  You shouldn't be scared of anything. Despite being inactive for so long, you're still Dolos. And criminals fear you.
You typed a brief message to give the others a warning. You cannot afford to lose your position right now.
Tumblr media
Taking a deep breath, you knew that drastic measures were necessary. You grabbed your backpack from the couch and returned to Jessy's side. You have to take offense now before he does. Plus you have the advantage as he really doesn't know you're here.
"Jess," you held her cheeks. You knew she won't like this idea, but you have to emphasize how important this is. "You have to stay here. I'll look outside."
"No!" As expected, she didn't like it one bit. She shook her head, adamant to make her point across. "You're not leaving this room, Y/n. I need you to be safe."
"And I need you to be safe," you countered firmly. "All of you. We can't afford to lose anyone, and I won't take any risks with your safety. Trust me, I know what I'm doing."
The sudden darkness caused you and Jessy to gasp in surprise. Cursing softly under your breath, you realized that this was an unfortunate time for a power interruption. However, when you checked the group chat, you discovered that Thomas had shut down the fuse box as Dan thought it might provide an advantage.
Both of you hurriedly made your way toward the window. Jessy initiated a video call to alert the others, her voice trembling with urgency. "Y/n he's really here! There! You see him? He's right in front of us!"
Fuck, it's pitch black out there but you can clearly see the man without a face in flesh, and it sent shivers down your spine. He's carrying the lamp with him, illuminating the mask you saw when he attacked Jessy. That slight fear turned into an unidentified anger when you remember that night.
Fucking finally. You can't wait to hand him over in cuffs. And possibly beat him to pulp if you were given a chance.
"What the hell is he doing?"
"It looks like he's waiting."
"Shit," Dan muttered under his breath, his impatience getting the better of him. "That's not enough. I can't hit him from this distance."
"You have to wait, Dan," you reminded him firmly, trying to keep him focused and patient. "If you miss this shot, he'll know you have a weapon."
"It's exactly with her," Lilly found herself saying in a barely audible voice. "This is exactly what Hannah said. That there is a man standing by the edge of the forest."
"Yes, Lilly." You hummed. "You're right."
"He turned off his lamp. Y/n, I can't see him anymore!" Jessy's hands held onto your shirt in a vice grip. You can't see her properly but the way she struggles with breathing is enough to tell you she's frightened to the core.
"It's so dark..." You say in a low voice. Your hand reached for hers, finding her clammy palm and holding onto it gently, trying to offer whatever comfort you could in this unsettling situation. "He could be anywhere."
"Well," Thomas prompted. "What do we do now?"
"Stay in your positions," Dan commanded. "He's gonna try coming in any second now."
A message from Dan suddenly pops out, surprising you a bit. And you wonder why the fuck is he messaging you now in the most importunate time.
Tumblr media
You might just have an idea about what's it about but goddamn it's not the best time to discuss it. And you know where this is going. Like 'whatever happens to me yada, yada, yada.' Like you'll fucking let anything happen to anyone of them.
He wasn't able to reply no more as Thomas alerted everyone that as of now, Hanson is on the porch. And after that, things just escalated.
You should have probably predicted what will happen next. Thomas and impulsive ideas just coexist with one another. And if you're gonna add crude reasoning, it's generally not gonna be a great mix.
Guess what? The idiot wants to go out there.
"Don't even think about it, Thomas." You said in a firm voice.
"I can catch him unaware." Once again, he's not listening.
"Dude, no."
"But he can't see me." He insisted and you fought the urge to smack him upside down.
"You don't know that." You countered back.
"I can see him too."
"Cleo, don't even encourage him." You want to facepalm so bad. Are you and Dan the only ones who actually think this is a bad idea?
"If he turns around now and leaves, that was it!"
"Thomas," this is the only time you heard Dan call him by his actual name, and you knew he's pissed as hell. "Seriously, I'm WARNING YOU."
As if not hearing anything, he left the call. Cleo also left and declared she'll try to help, and Lilly soon followed her.
"Oh, fuck it." Dan also left, ending the call effectively. It's only you and Jessy left, and god knows where the hell is Jake.
"Goddamn it!" The whole position is screwed thanks to Thomas. "They all went outside!"
With no one guarding the entrances, Hanson can easily navigate around the house without them noticing him, especially since the whole house is pitch black. He can easily attack them from behind and they'll never know.
You've easily seen how this kind of situation ends before and damn, you're all screwed in all ways possible.
"What do we do, Y/n?!" Jessy is pretty much freaking out just like you, but you're trained in being composed at all times.
Taking a deep breath, you tried to gather your thoughts and devise a plan. But with no other viable options, you're afraid you have to use your ace now.
"Jess," you gently held her shoulders, making sure she looked into your eyes, "listen, I have to go out there—"
Her eyes widened in alarm as she interrupted, "you're just going to do the same thing! It's too dangerous!"
"You have to trust me. I'll be safe. I'll keep them safe, too." You tried to assure her. If anyone is actually suited to defend anyone, it would be you. "But I want to make sure you'll be safe here first, okay?"
Assuming Hanson is already in the house, you cannot leave her here all alone, not until you know she'll be safe here. You cannot bring her with you, it's not safe, too. She's not a damsel in distress per se but you couldn't afford to risk her safety.
"Okay," she let out a shaky breath. "I trust you, Y/n..."
You gave her a gentle smile, appreciating her trust in you. "Lock the door when I leave. Don't open it to anyone other than me and the others. And not until you hear our voice." You told her. "Promise me you won't leave the room."
"I..." She almost hesitated, but give in eventually. "promise."
You pulled her into a tight embrace and she waited for no second to wrap her arms around you as tight as she could. Like if she holds you too loose, you'll slip away. You planted a soft kiss on her forehead in the most loving and caring way you could muster. If it's for giving her reassurance or for something else, you're not entirely sure. But at the moment, it feels like it's the right thing to do.
"Are you with me?" You asked softly.
"I am. Always, Y/n," she whispered, gripping your shirt a little bit tighter. "Please be safe."
"I will." You promised as you leaned in and gave her a quick but tender kiss on the lips. “Please be safe as well, Jess. I'll come back soon."
Leaving her in that room has probably been one of the hardest things you've ever done. When you heard her trying to silence her cries, not wanting to be heard by you almost broke your resolve but you got to keep going.
This is for her as much as this is for everyone.
The sound of the door locking behind you brought a slight sense of relief. At least that way, you knew she is safe. Now, in the darkness, you could fully embrace your skills and training. Stealth and darkness were your allies, and you moved through the area with grace and precision.
Your eyes adjusted to the darkness, allowing you to navigate the space with ease. From your bag, you retrieved the familiar item, holding it firmly in your hand. It has been a while since you used it, it still felt familiar as ever, not too light, and never too heavy.
Your heart pounded in your chest as you carefully descended the stairs, your eyes scanning for any signs of forced entry or unusual sounds near the front door. The house seemed eerily silent, and you couldn't shake the feeling that danger was lurking just outside.
In the dining room, where Dan was supposed to be, there was no sign of him. However, the open balcony door indicated that the others might have used that as an exit. You took a deep breath, steadying your nerves before venturing outside.
Guided by the soft moonlight, you cautiously stepped onto the deck, trying to make out any movement or signs of your friends. The tension in the air was tangible, and you couldn't help but feel a sense of urgency to find them quickly.
As you scanned your surroundings, the deck appeared empty. Your instincts led you to the porch, where Thomas had last seen Hanson. But to your surprise, there was no sign of anyone there, except for Cleo and Thomas's parked cars.
A knot of dread formed in your stomach.
"Where the hell are they?" You questioned yourself. It's far too quiet, and that only adds to the growing eariness you feel.
You decided to went further down the cabin's ground floor. The house is not that big of a mansion to get lost in so it's quite impossible for you to miss him or the others. You can't even find Dan for Pete's sake! And he's still in a wheelchair. He can't possibly move floor to floor.
Your blood went cold when the sound of Jessy's scream tore the silence of the night.
Fuck, fuck, fuck!
Hanson's not anywhere in your perimeter, and if he's not with Thomas and the others, he probably got Jessy. Adrenaline shot all throughout your veins as you ran fast with purpose. God, why have you been foolish leaving her alone? If something were to happen to her, you will never forgive yourself.
You sprinted back to the cabin with urgency, your mind racing with the worst possible scenarios. As you burst into the cabin, the sight that greeted you filled you with horror. There he was—the man without a face, standing before you.
Jessy lay on the floor, desperately trying to escape his grasp. You assumed she went out of the room and came looking for you guys, and was surprised by Hanson appearing at the front door. You thought that was sealed tight, how the hell did he get inside?
Hanson has got no time to be surprised by your presence as you point your gun and pulled the trigger with no hesitation. It didn't manage to hit him in the desired location you want to shoot him but you're sure you were able to graze his arm with your bullet. Another shot soon followed but it didn't come from your Glock. It was Dan!
Though he wasn't able to hit him as Hanson scurried away like some sort of coward. You wanted to run after him but you wanted to make sure she was okay.
Despite her shock and confusion, she only shook her head at you, "follow him, Y/n!"
You hesitated but decided to follow suit, and nodded in understanding. As you went outside, gun held close to you, you saw him running inside the forest, clutching his side for dear life. You debated going after him but it would be too dangerous. Besides, that bullet you have with you has a chemical infused to it that can paralyze a person within 5 minutes after being shot. He won't be able to return to Hannah and Richy anytime soon.
You sighed. That was a close one. You let out a harsh breath. It didn't miss your eyes the confusion on Jessy and Dan's faces when you shot him. Now, you have to explain to the others why the hell you have a gun with you, and how you know how to use one just as you feared.
When you entered the cabin, noting the lights are on again, all eyes are on you. All of them are huddled at the table with Lilly assisting Jessy in drinking her water.
"What happened?" Thomas questioned you.
"Did you..." Jessy panted, trying to catch her breath. "Did you get him?"
"I did, I went after him but he ran away in the forest." You told them. You also told them about him being paralyzed any moment now, and killing Hannah and Richy will be will probably the last thing on his mind right now.
The group fell into a tense silence, their gazes shifting between you and the gun in your hand.
"I'm gonna address the elephant in the room, alright?" Dan broke the silence, his tone surprisingly calm. "Firstly, nice shot, Sherlock!" He chuckled, giving you a small nod of approval. "Second: Y/n, you've been carrying a gun this whole time? Why didn't you tell us?"
A moment of silence occurred. Everyone waited for your response. Each second passing makes your Glock feels heavier than usual. And you guessed this is probably the best time to tell them everything.
Now or never.
"Old habits die hard, I guess," you murmured, reaching into your back pocket and producing your badge. You placed it on the table, revealing the truth about your past. "I'm Y/n L/n," you began, "Agent Dolos of the Gamma Force."
The room fell silent, the revelation sinking in for everyone.
"Wait, what?" Dan's eyes widened in astonishment. "As in the Agent Dolos of the FBI?!"
"Yes, but not anymore.”
A/N: Alright, sorry for the delay first of all. There's just so much going on with my univ atm 😣 but anyway, I hope this chapter will suffice. Some of you might be confused, but I assure you that whatever questions (especially on who Jill is) you have will be answered soon. Also, I'm editing the previous chapter as I've started to replay the game, and I saw that there are some things that I missed out on. My apologies also for the description of the cabin, I'm still quite confused about which room is located on which floor as I know that it's a two-storey house with a ground floor.
Anyway, thanks for having you here! :)
Chapter 8 - A desperate outcry
His arms were scratched. Running through the forest ‘till he ran out of breath, Kyle bent down. Still gasping for air, he looked around again.
Faye was somewhere around this area. The tracking bug they placed in her bag indicated so. Though he failed to grab her phone, he made someone place that on her.
No matter how hard he looked, Faye was nowhere to be seen.
Why in the world?
A sudden thought stopped Kyle from taking another step. He stiffened, frowning.
Could this…be a trap, perhaps?
Sh*t! When did I become this careless?
Rubbing his temples, Kyle tried to be more alert. He was not trained for these situations, to be honest. Kyle felt as if being trapped between two walls. The walls would move and crush him to death, eventually.
He was nearing the Grimrock. The loud noise made his situation more vulnerable. Why didn’t he think of the possibility that Jake would attack him? Irritated at the sound of the falling water, Kyle clicked his tongue. His lips letting out a cuss under his breath, Kyle looked up.
His knees seemed to have turned jelly.
What the hell?!
Kyle climbed the hill at once, not caring about breathing difficulties. He was scared. His body trembling, Kyle was unable to call out to Faye.
If he called her name, she would jump.
***
“M-mom?”
The woman turned her head. The long, black hair ruffled and randomly cut, the messed up make-up with cheeks stained in black along with the tears. The bright red dress was crumpled and now was oversized as the woman kept starving herself for days.
This was no alien scenery for him. What panicked him was where she was standing.
Kyle who just arrived home from middle school, looked around to find his mother. He preferred not to greet her but it would be even more bothersome if she finds him later.
“You ungrateful brat! You are just like your father!”
Or she would have another episode.
“You monster! Give me my family back! My husband! My son! Give them back!”
“I’m going to kill you!”
“Monster! I have to dig those eyes out!”
Such words didn’t manage to bring out an ounce of emotions from him by now. He had heard them forever.
A mother who’d call the child she gave birth to, “a monster” while asking for that very son. A father who left him with a mentally ill woman. Kyle knew that his father didn’t want to cope with his mother. She would look for him while in his embrace. Additionally, Kyle’s father had several women; it was easy for him to walk out with one of them.
A few years ago, that woman tried to dig out his eyes again. She cuffed his hands, grabbing the kitchen knife. The five-year-old Kyle could do nothing, but the thirteen-year-old Kyle could. He pushed her hard, forcefully as he could. The woman hit her head on the floor and fainted.
Confirming she was still breathing; Kyle left that hell. He wandered in the streets and sometimes would pickpocket. Sometimes got hit by gangs, and sometimes were ordered to work for them. Either way, his priority was filling his empty stomach.
That did not last long though. He was caught by the police and was sent to his mother again. The same thing happened several times. The woman who wanted to kill him, would belatedly come back to her senses and report to the police. Then he would be dragged home again.
Honestly, he wanted to tell the authorities about the abuse he went through. But his mother’s pleading face won’t let him. He was putting himself in hell, again and again.
He genuinely believed that he deserved all that hurt and pain.
Kyle was born to burn in that hell.
That same woman was now…
Standing on the railing at the balcony. The balcony of the 31st floor.
His body froze. A faint voice left his mouth, “Mom? Why?”
The woman only stared at him. She stared into his eyes, the eyes she hated so much. Then she burst into laughter. Laughing hysterically, her thin body waved giving him a heart attack.
Suddenly, she stopped. Then smiled sweetly.
Whenever she did so, the blood left his face.
“Monster…Are you happy now?”
Kyle could only stare. To call out to the emergency service and ask for help was nowhere near his now blank head.
“I curse you, the monster that ruined my family. You will never be happy, Kyle. Until the day you die.”
With the last of her words, the woman let her body fall. Her body was crushed in the middle of a pool of blood.
***
A gentle movement from Faye jerked him back to reality.
Faye slowly turned around. His mind went blank, body stiffening.
What if she jumps when she sees me?
Kyle wanted to hide. But his feet were fixed. Faye looked right through him. She didn’t seem to have noticed him at all. Clutching her phone, Faye slowly stepped out of the hill.
As she was about ten feet away from him, Faye fell to the floor. Kyle ran towards her at once.
Out of impulse, he grabbed her shaking body to his chest, hugging her tightly.
***
Ah…
He came to save me after all…
Jake.
I missed you so much…
Faye decided, at that moment.
She would never run away from that feeling again.
I...still love you, Jake.
I love you.
-To be Continued.
- MY DUSKWOOD EISODE 10 THOUGHTS -
Okie, so it is May 29th 8:45 am where I'm from as I'm starting with this, I finished my first cup of coffee for the morning and my brain finally started to function enough to start making comprehensible sentences, and I did mention in my earlier post I could write an essay about it, so here we are. 🤭
⚠️ I'll put this under the cut, even though there is not really any specific spoilers in it, but still 😊 So maybe, if you still haven't finished with the ep 10, skip reading it for now. ⚠️
So, episode 10 is done, and all I can say is HOLLY MOTHER OF ALL THAT'S SACRED!!!!
This was an absolute MASTERPIECE!! People of Everbyte, you are AMAZING! AMAZING!!!💚💚
Honestly, I was extremely nervous when we learned that ep 10 will be the last one - I really believed that there were too many unresolved things, too many questions that were left hanging in the air to actually be able to fit them all into one episode and to not make it turn out rushed or leave me with even more questions, but I never expected something like this!
From the moment I started, my heart was beating so hard, and it only intensified as I pogressed more into the episode. Every conversation made me anxious, waiting to lear more about all the "why's" and "how's" that we still had to learn of. Every (video) call gave me such an adrenalin rush, resulting in me screaming at my phone a few times, what to cheer or to repeat a constant 'NO NO NO' thinking haven't they suffered enough already?! Gosh, every minute of my playthrough was accompanied with so much emotions coursing through me, it was an amazing expirience! 💚💚
And for Jake? Well, we might not have gotten a face or voice reveal (which is totally fine with me actually 😉), but at the end, in my eyes, we got something much, MUCH better! 💚💚💚💚
Ok, I do have to say, even though there are few things that did still leave me with a question mark above my head, or that I might have hoped to interact with in some way, but the way Everbyte exectued this whole thing, it absolutely, in no way changes the fact that this episode was, no IS, the spectacular, amazing, extraordinary grand finale I hoped for! 💚💚💚💚
And so we came to the end of Duskwood - we laughed with it, we cried with it (?) ,and it really does feel like an end of an era 🥺 And yes, we all know it is just a game, but that still doesn't change anything. Because, for a little while, at least for me, Duskwood was a bright light in my life, an escape from a sometimes tough reality, and I am so glad that I had a pleasure to be a part of such an amazing game! 💚💚💚💚
Thank you Everbyte for not giving up when times got hard and for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this masterpiece! I'm very much looking forward to see what other 'ace's up your sleeve' you have for us in the future!! 💚💚
Thanks to anyone who read this till the end. Much hugs to you all, have a wonderful day/evening/night 💚
Duskwood theory: MWF
!!!!!!!!!SPOILERS AHEAD !!!!!!!!!
This is gonna be a long boy, so strap in for a wild ass ride, induced by lack of sleep and brain jitters that want answers! This may not be in a correct time-line because some details are pretty fuzzy early on, so sorry in advance for that!
I’ll put it under the cut, because it really did end up as a very long boy.
To be honest, I’ve been sitting on this one for quite a while; I think the idea came around the end of episode 7 or 8 (the episode where Richy dies anyway).
And in my opinion; Richy is the one behind everything.
Now, put your pitchforks down, I have evidence, or, at least, stuff that will probably make you rethink Richy a little bit.
To start this off, I think I’ll raise the first questions that have plagued my mind since my first playthrough (and believe me, I have a pretty big number of replays under my belt): Why did Richy not add us until the Legends of Duskwood chat and what did he tell Jessy about us that one time? It must’ve been very important if he felt the need to tell her in person even though we find out later on they don’t necessarily have any problems with texting each other even if they work at the same place.
So, what’s going on?
During the chat with Jake, he asks us the same question: What did we think he told Jessy? Now, unfortunately we can’t say we know even in the present, but in my opinion it is quite weird nothing else followed that.
On the Richy not adding us part, I think he was mostly trying to gauge the group’s reaction to us, which also seems pretty weird because in comparison with the others, the only people that didn’t add us almost as soon as we came in were Lilly and Dan if I remember correctly; Lilly obviously didn’t want anything to do with it and Dan, well, as he himself said “guys like him always get in the line of fire”
Until now, there isn’t much evidence against him, just stuff that feels odd.
I’m pretty sure he doesn’t get involved in more investigating stuff until the Legends of Duskwood chat, so we’ll move to that. At this point we know that the kidnapper is hiding behind the legend of the man without a face.
We find out that there is a book in the library that contains information about the mwf and Jessy suggests she goes to pick it up herself. Richy, immediately starts putting holes in her plan by saying stuff like “It’s already closed when you leave” and when she suggests that she goes during the lunch break he just responds with “That’s gonna cut it too close”. Weren’t they the ones complaining that Roger’s Garage doesn’t have customers? Who cares if Jessy is late 5-10 minutes? Not the customers that’s for sure.
Unless Richy doesn’t want us to have that book.
Pretty sure that when Jessy goes to pick it up the person who grabbed it has it for a long time as it’s past the returning time which means in the least that he didn’t get the book just because he heard that we want it.
Then comes the forest search. We all know everyone had high hopes for it, but it ends up being canceled because of the threatening letters sent to Cleo’s mom. In response to us saying “Hannah is definitely in the forest” he responds with “It would have been like searching for the famous needle in the haystack anyway”
Tumblr media
Sounds pretty weird when everyone was super excited and hopeful. He also continues with:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“And to risk our own lives” I thought we were talking about a kidnapping, not a murder???
This might be him trying to comfort the others that were excited about the search, but the line “And to risk our own lives...It’s not worth it” makes me kind of doubtful he was trying to comfort anyone.
Then we have Dan’s accident.
I’m pretty sure I don’t have a screenshot of the text message, but we know that when Jessy left Roger’s Garage to get ready for her date with Dan, Richy isn’t there. I am almost certain that at one point it was mentioned that his apartment was above the garage, but I’m not too sure. Anyway, if he isn’t in the garage, where could he be?
Since Jessy leaves from work we can safely assume that it’s around the end of their shifts (since they seem to be the only employees and just like with the library apparently Jessy cannot leave during set hour unless she asks for Richy’s permission), but if that was the case(and we didn’t see any messages letting Richy know that she’s leaving early), wouldn’t resident gentleman Richy wait for the lady?
He must be somewhere with some business to take care of, right?
We know from reading along Jessy’s and Richy’s conversation that Jessy apparently hasn’t had a day off in a long time
Tumblr media
This in itself isn’t evidence to go off from. But just keep this piece of information in mind.
Further on we get the chance to question Dan about what happened. One of the questions is “Is it possible, that you have any enemies?”
Tumblr media
Richy’s reaction seems uncalled for? No one else reacted in any shape or form at the question which probably means that it wasn’t a tease at Dan’s rough exterior. And this reaction paired with the fact that Richy wasn’t at the garage when Jessy left, it doesn’t really paint a pretty picture for him...
Ultimately, Dan asks Richy to take a look at his car and check for any signs of tampering.
After Jessy is attacked we can talk with her about what happened. Between the questions we have available one was “Did he say anything to you?”
Jessy responds with:
Tumblr media
Hmm, strong you say?
Richy must be pretty strong if he works with cars...but, at the same time, we know from his profile that Dan likes to work out, so this piece of information is up to you how you want to interpret it.
Richy goes into the forest to the dare house; great job buddy that’s worked out for everyone!
During that time, the garage was left unsupervised, just like Richy said “Usually I would have been at the junkyard all day. That means someone was watching me when I went into the forest” and with Jessy gone, there was really no one as an alibi for anything before he texted us that he was in the forest. He could have been practicing off his sick skills in drawing ravens with fake blood for all we know!
Tumblr media
This one is more of a hit or miss, but at the end of the day it’s just a theory- a GAME THEORY-
Then after Richy is marked, we have this conversation with him:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I didn’t think to screenshot the rest of the conversation because while it seemed as if it was supposed to be important, I didn’t feel the need to have it as a photo. Basically Richy tells us that Phil used to give Hannah free drinks, as if we are supposed to now write Phil down as a suspect. While I do admit his character is flirty and kind of shady, I don’t think he had anything to do with the kidnapping.
The last line also seems very weird to me, like you’re fine with me getting all sorts of information about Hannah, but the moment it comes from you, you are suddenly not entirely sure it’s good?? You do you man I guess.
In a nutshell, I think this conversation is meant to confuse both us as the players, but also MC. We suddenly have Phil to worry about and that “someone else”.
Then we find out that apparently Cleo and Thomas are trying to break in Aurora’s basement? Whoever the fuck told them it was a good idea?
We make Thomas go and talk to Phil before the police is involved and we get an explanation as a reward. Not very fair if you ask me, but whatever, we get an explanation either way.
We get added into a group chat with Cleo, Thomas and guess who? Richy. When we demand an explanation about what was going on we have this sequence:
Tumblr media
Seeing as everyone is so eager to throw the burden to us of investigating Hannah’s kidnapping with no worries about who else finds out, it seems weird that this is the one instance they decided to keep us out of the loop. There weren’t any other instances of Jessy finding out something out from us, so this worry seems very...questionable, in the least.
We know about the body since episode 1 if I’m not mistaken and this conversation takes place around episode 2-3, which is enough time for them to be plotting something behind our backs. Let’s say Richy was genuinely worried about Jessy finding out, since she is Phil’s sister and we are very close to her; why would that matter? In the worst case she gets upset and tells them to knock it off.
Sometime around Lilly’s video, I am almost 100% sure that it was shortly before, we have this:
Tumblr media
If it was me in Jessy’s place, I would be pretty pissed if someone talked about my attack without me. But, I don’t know. Here, it seems Richy is pressuring us to let the others know as soon as possible. Why? To send a message? To induce real fear for their lives?
After Lilly’s video, we find the book of legends in Hannah’s cloud.
Tumblr media
We know Jessy is a hardcore fan of legends and myths, why would she get “over-excited” over something she already knows about? It would mostly be satisfaction of being right, or something like that. Anyway, Richy doesn’t want to postpone it that badly. To me, that sounds like an admission of wanting to postpone it, but ok.
We find out the body’s idenity, Amy. Richy doesn’t participate in the conversation because he “can’t add anything” to it. Weird, but ok, I thought Duskwood was a small town where everyone knows everyone, maybe not.
Tumblr media
He seems almost eager to get out of the conversation by throwing the attention on the lack of Jessy and Lilly.
As we get our hands on the call log, we find out that Roger’s Garage is on that list, surprise, surprise. Apparently Hannah’s oil pan was damaged. But Jessy didn’t know anything about that. When we ask Richy why, here is his response:
Tumblr media
Jessy  had  the  day  off. Ladies and gentleman; what the fuck.
Time passes differently in game as in real life (obviously) so in the game’s time line, only a few days have passed. Around three if I’m not mistaken? Remember what he told Jessy? “No worries, you didn’t have a day off in a long time” Only a few days have passed, or, anyway, a short amount of time for the phrase “a long time” to not be needed.
Further on, when we discus this with Jake, we have this option:
Tumblr media
Since the story will progress mostly the same, no matter what answer you choose from, the fact that the devs felt the need to include this option seems a very...interesting dialogue choice.
Phil gets arrested. Wooo
This prompts Jessy into getting even more invested in the investigation and so she goes to take a look at Hannah’s sat nav that Richy was so sure it didn’t exist.
Broski, you literally work with cars and her car was in your workshop, what the fuck.
Tumblr media
We have this conversation in the groupchat:
Tumblr media
Suddenly, our beloved mechanic wants to back off the investigation. Only like 6 episodes late.
The group is going to the cabin in the woods. Sounds nice; a cabin around 40 minutes by car, no biggie. A cabin found by Richy. We text Richy and this is what he says:
Tumblr media
“The only way is up for us” Uhm, sir, you have a kidnapper after you despite the police why are you so chill?
Then we finally have an answer. Apparently Dan’s car has no sign of tampering. Which is such a red flag to me, the vibes are so off, Dan seemed so convinced about his brakes not working. Also, remember that Richy wasn’t in the junkyard when Jessy left, so, during our Date with Jessy, he could’ve been anywhere.
The only thing I hate so so so so much is the fact that the car was sent to Richy. I would’ve loved to see what Tool Tastic would’ve had to say, before Richy put his grimy mechanic hands all over it. If he was the one to cut Dan’s brakes (he surely would have the knowledge to do something like that), he probably has already fixed it so taking it to TT is kind of a waste Despite that, I hope TT checks it over either way.
Tumblr media
We get to ask him if he thinks Phil was framed
Tumblr media
Suddenly! Oh no! A scream from the forest! How convienent!
Now this. This is the scene that absolutely made me question Richy’s innocence. The scene that started all of this for me: Richy’s death call.
As soon as he’s outside, on the call with us, the screams stop. Weird, right? Anyway, no more screams. He sees someone and runs off. He’s a runner he’s a track star.
The thing is. He sees someone then runs off and then gets attacked. That means someone must’ve been chasing him, but things start to get weird. We see at the beginning of the call that the forest is full of dead leaves on the ground, meaning you hear leaves crunching under your shoe when you step on them, right? You can only hear one pair of footsteps, Richy’s. What is he running from then? Someone levitating?
Then he stops. We hear him very clearly stop and pant, but otherwise is quiet. Now, I’m guessing that for you to bleed out of your mouth you have to be shot or stabbed. We don’t hear a gunshot so that is out of the question. The other option is getting stabbed. Now, unless mwf is a throwing knives champion, I don’t see how he would be able to hit Richy without getting closer.
Notice how there are no footsteps again? It’s only Richy.
Let’s say he truly was stabbed. Somehow, someway our mechanic has a wound that we cannot see and that causes him to bleed. From his mouth.
Tumblr media
You can’t see the blood very well in this picture, but the blood is coming out of his mouth.
ALSO MWF DOESN’T SHOW HIS UGLY ASS MASK!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was a very big thing with him, us seeing him seeing this is his handiwork. Now where is he?? He’s okay with attacking Jessy and then staring at us ominously, but when he kills Richy he’s like “Nah man, u got this”????
Richy’s dead, we tell the guys and Thomas goes into the forest to search for him (if you choose that option) and he calls us from the forest, showing us this:
Tumblr media
(yes this photo is taken from google, let me be, I only have so much space on my phone)
Notice how the blood is on the edge of his cap? Yeah, I studied physics and from what I know, gravity doesn’t work like that. Unless he dropped the cap in a pile of blood and it remained there long enough for the blood to stain it so thoroughly and also dry, I don’t see how the cap would’ve ended up like this.
Besides the fact that what we see in the call is so little blood, not nearly enough to stain the hat like that, we don’t see the blood on the grass or anything like that. If Richy was stabbed, wouldn’t he bleed? At least enough to stain the ground? Unless the hat is in another location, I don’t see how we could explain the lack of blood on the ground.
And the raven feathers around the hat don’t have a SPECK of blood. Kind of a weird detail.
And last but not least! We have this messages with mwf through Hannah’s phone:
Tumblr media
“I set a trap for you”
I as in me, myself. I have. The person texting us has.
This could be interpreted in two ways. Richy, may I remind you, he is the one who organized the whole cabin in the forest, has gone before hand and placed the gun there so they can start pointing fingers at each other, OR, Michael (Jackson-) put a bug on Jessy’s/Thomas’ car and followed them to the cabin.
To me, this points towards Richy especially with the line “And you didn’t even realize” backing it up. Again, this could be discussed as if it was Michael talking, taunting us, but I’m still leaning more towards Richy.
And that’s it! If you have gotten here, thank you! Your dedication is admirable, I spent so long writing this and trying to put it as best as I could in a time-line correct order, so I hope it’s if not exact at least close enough to the events in the game :D
Duskwood episode 10
⚠️ might contain spoilers ⚠️
Tumblr media
I just finished the last episode and, for something that has been over two years in the making, both from the Everbyte development team and the player community side... THIS WAS AMAZING 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I low-key wanna write some self-insert fanfiction for this one because I could absolutely see this game being adapted into a drama miniseries for a streaming service. It's so beautifully written and full of red herrings, which I love. The plot twists blew my fucking mind.
Right off the bat, as I mentioned during one of my first playthroughs of the game via Twitter, the disability representation is a fucking mixed bag of weird peanuts and I would very much love to hear from wheelchair users about this.
Let's start my review with criticism, because there are some things I feel that could be improved upon:
Sure, in the final episodes, one of the characters is A FUCKING BADASS in a wheelchair and saves the day, but there are also a little too many dialogue references about how the wheelchair is an impediment which, yes? But also, if you're going to have a disabled character (even if only temporarily), then why not present a more positive depiction of disability? Why not have that character be a disabled person for the whole game and show how he's still a badass? It's 2022, I certainly think that we can do much better if we're going to include disability in our media content.
In my very humble opinion, the ending was a little predictable (we could kinda get hints at how it was going to unfold since episode 8), and the mini-game breaks between story cutscenes take people away the immersion for a little too much time (I feel that the mini-games could be a little more immersive, you know?) but MAN, I'D BE LYING if I didn't tell you I CRIED when I saw the final cutscenes and played the final mini-games. Mostly because one of them sort of mirrors the first mini-games (but with the added difficulty, of course).
There's also the fact that one of the first clues we receive comes from a background character who has a "mental disability" that's never addressed other than being used to infantilize him (to be fair, he is a child or pre-teen, at most) or to call him an "unreliable witness", which was a big yikes for me from the beginning.
The studio apparently, in my opinion, tried to redeem themselves about their disability representation in the more recent episodes. (Please remember that the game was being developed while each episode was released) but I'll still deduct one full point from my overall score because of that. As a neurodivergent person myself, it sucks to be misrepresented CONSTANTLY 🙄 even if it's a trope of the mystery genre, it's tired and we need to retire it.
Richy, Jessie and Jake became my immediate favorite characters since episode 3, so this ending was partially satisfying... Sure, we get a really meaningful text from Jake (if that's the playthrough style you're going for), and we also get to see Jessie react to the actual ending. And Richy's storyline is completed in a really satisfying (yet heartbreaking) way, but what the fuck is up with the rest of the gang?
If you want to know what happens to Cleo, Lilly, and Thomas, BE DAMNED! Because from Episode 8 onwards, they fade into the background, to the point where on this last episode, it felt like the game itself forgot about them as people/characters and other than SOME dialogue from Y/N to them (and a nice conversation with Dan), there's almost zero interaction.
🎶They could have done so much more if they only had timeee🎶 (me, @ the Duskwood development team)
He's a fan favorite and yeah, yeah, we know that the dialogue we get from him on this final episode points out at him being in the next Everbyte game... But he kinda contradicts his own story arc? Back on the first episodes, even if your play style with him isn't actually flirty, he says you're "going to become very important", and even though there's a sweet unlockable dialogue option for him on episode 10 for those who wanted to romance him, the rest of us actually DON'T KNOW why we are important, at the end. Character development for both Jake and Y/N be damned.
I have a feeling that we're going to see more of Alan on the next game, considering the endgame hint we get at a new game taking place in the same universe... But what the fuck happened to Jake? Did he manage to leave [redacted] before the last cutscene?! Again, we have no idea. If this was Everbyte's way to generate expectations for their next game, it's a great marketing strategy, but an awful conclusion to the story arc of Duskwood in general. I don't think it's too respectful towards their own product to use the most meaningful plotline point as a marketing ploy.
Also, if you want to know why Hannah had Y/N's phone number in the first place, which is KINDA pushed by the game as one of the biggest parts of the mystery: Get bent, because we absolutely don't get that on episode 10 and I can only hope that we get some sort of preface related to Duskwood on the next game because otherwise, so many questions are left unanswered... Unless you write fanfiction about them lmao.
Now, onto the things I LOVED about this game:
The interactivity... OMFG, the conversations with the characters are so entertaining. I loved seeing how Y/N was slowly becoming part of the gang and I loved to traverse the "websites" that the players are able to interact with, because they are fucking exquisite.
I especially enjoyed the portion where the player is able to access [redacted]'s phone, because there are so many more apps than the ones needed for the plot, and those were really fun, and I loved to read (and comment!) the web forum of creepy stories that Y/N has to research. Absolutely loved it.
If you're able to splurge a little, I would definitely recommend buying the premium photo pack from the beginning of the game because you'll be able to access SO MUCH MORE CONTENT and not only does it improve immersion in the game, but all that content is actual art by itself.
The photography for this game is actually incredible for a mobile game. When you compare Everbyte's Duskwood with similar games like I Am Innocent by Twinaleblood, for example (though I thought the original study who made the game was Glaznev?), you get visuals that are far more stunning from Everbyte's part. Even though I Am Innocent has amazing black and white photography where the chiaroscuro works to heighten the mood of the game, the visual content doesn't actually get to stand out as much as the photography does on Duskwood.
And the videocalls are done masterfully. The cast of actors did a fucking brilliant job, even though we can clearly see that English might not be their native language, and even though some of them are amateurs like Ivonne Scherer, the artist who plays Jessy, their work on the videos conveys so much emotion. Especial kudos to actor Alex Friedland, who plays a MASTERFUL Richy. I'm looking forward to my next playthrough of this game so I can see more of our re-cast Hannah, Theresia Erfort, because she did an amazing job as Hannah, even though she was brought onto the cast at such a late stage of development.
The extra dialogue options that you can purchase through the aforementioned premium pack give you SO MUCH MORE information about the diegetic universe and they make it absolutely worth it. You're still going to get the plot-worthy info for the sake of game progress, but tbe premium pack dialogue options let you have a peek at the characters as people, beyond the tragedy of losing Hannah, and they let you understand them and their motives a little bit more.
I'd also recommend paying for the heart and credits pack beforehand because even though the mini-games are satisfying and it takes you 2 or 3 attempts (at most) to figure out the gist of their solution, in a way, they are designed more like a gacha, in the sense that sometimes you're going to solve one of puzzles in less than 10 moves, and sometimes you're going to get stuck on a single level for DAYS because the seemingly random piece distribution might not be as random as it seems (after all, mobile games subsist through microtransactions).
The mini-games are idle fun and they ARE entertaining (although they do cut the immersion), but the heart pack is definitely worth buying beforehand if you don't want to bother with the constant microtransactions to replenish hearts and credits mid-play. Especially on those pesky levels where the only solution is to actually pay for more moves.
The general plot of the game also lends itself for roleplaying a character, if that's the play style you're going for. If you want to write and play a character of your own while answering the dialogue, I 100% encourage you to do it, it's a really fun experience and the dialogue options lend themselves pretty well for doing that.
Having to use actual social media to find the clues to advance the plot brought me back to that one Toshiba "interactive film" from 2011 with Emmy Rossum, but this time it was well done and didn't feel like a forced commercial for a shitty laptop.
The Instagram comment sections that players need to solve the clues do spoil some of the story but they help you solve some of the trickiest parts of the game pretty quickly, especially the image-related ones. I hope that Everbyte brings those Instagram mini-games to the table next time and maybe add some another social media to the mix, maybe some YouTube videos to look through. The video feeds and audio files are top tier as well. And Cleo's Instagram stories are so fun to watch as little easter eggs, although I do feel that they could have used better for more referential content towards the game, but her recipes are actually easy and fun to try. Maybe for next installment they could pull a Cicada 3301 on social media and use cryptograms and other cyphers to increase the difficulty? For those of us who nerd out about it, that is. Although I absolutely understand that part of the popularity that this game has had, is precisely because of its simplicity.
The #IAmJake portion of the game is pretty amazing for those of us with an artsy side. I remember I even talked on my Twitter about creating my own OC "Duskwoodsona" to cosplay for my participation, but in the end I decided this was a cringe idea and decided to scratch that, but for those of you out there who want to do cosplay or fanart or fanfiction, this part of the game is absolutely beautiful because it lends itself to those types of participation.
I wish the developers had held some sort of contest or shared more of the #IAmJake campaign as an event of sorts, but at the same time, not having the added pressure of the time limit of an in-game event is pretty good for the replayability value of the game overall. So that's a great point for me, who can't be bothered with time limits.
In conclusion: I give this game a 9/10 and I can't wait to see what Everbyte brings us next.
EPISODE 8 SPOILERS
Jake: Okay, I want you to talk to this person named “Darkness”, he seems a bit closed off and secretive so you’ll have to be careful and earn his interest. This might be tricky.
MC: So I basically have to treat him like an edgier version of you?
Jake: Well yes— I mean... huh?
MC: *flips shades and smirks* This will be easy.
After the storm part 6
Masterlist
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 7, Part 8, Part 9,  Ploy Ending,
Pairing: Jake x fem!Reader x Richy x Phil (?)
Warnings:
contains episode 10 spoilers
mentioning of a car crash
mentioning of death
Word count: 2170
Please remember that English is not my first language, so please don't kill me.
Tumblr media
You were shocked. It wasn't just anybody staring at you. It was Jake. It had to be an accident. He would never hurt you... right? But, months ago, you thought something like that about Richy too. Maybe he didn't see another way... for whatever he was doing.
But instead of helping, Jake just looked at you emotionless before he walked away. The pain in your body was so bad that you just couldn't call after him. You thought you saw a flash from the direction in which he had disappeared, but you felt dizzy, so it was probably your imagination.
While you were laying in the damp grass, unable to move, you at least had time for a little thinking. While you were 100% sure it was Jake who caused the crash, you couldn't think of a reason. Even if he never had feelings for you, it doesn't mean he had to kill you, right? Maybe you just had too much information about him, but otherwise he gave you that information voluntarily.
Thinking made your headache even worse... but you weren't surprised. There had to be something you could do. You just can't lay around and wait for your death, right? You weren't sure how long you had already lain there, staring into the night sky, not moving, just sobbing. You didn't cry because of the pain. No, you couldn't feel that. Feeling so deceived about Jake was a lot worse.
"Y/n!" yelled someone in the distance.
You thought you were imagining things at first, but after a second and third yell, you knew there had to be someone there.You tried calling out too, but no voice would leave your mouth. Your throat burned from sobbing. You just felt pathetic now.
"Here she is!", a different voice called.
"Y/n can you hear me? Please answer.", you saw Richy looking at you.
He carefully took you in his arms and examined you for injuries. You automatically relaxed into his warmth, because even though it's summer, the nights in Duskwood are still freezing cold. But breathing in his scent and feeling his warmth made a few questions arise in your mind. How did he know you were here? Was Jake the other voice? Was he urging Richy here to kill him too?
However, Phil entered your point of few against your expectations.
"This is all your fault.", he snapped at Richy.
"As much as I would like to argue about it right now, Y/n needs our help. So if you just want to be mad at me, then leave!"
Phil didn't answer and just looked at you.
"Can you hear us?", Richy asked, and Phil stroked a strand of hair behind your ear.
You couldn't move or talk, so you blinked a few times.
"Phil, you need to call an abundance.", Richy demanded and carefully took off his jacket (carefully to move or hurt you as little as possible).
"Why don't you call an ambulance and I stay with Y/n.", Phil proposed and tried to take you from Richys hold.
"I just want to make sure that no one recognizes me. If you remember, I was declared dead and a friend of my father's works at the rescue coordination center.", Richy explained and covered you in his jacket.
Phil didn't argue further. He stood up and walked a few steps away, before he called 911.
"Stay with me, okay Y/n," Richy said as he stroked your cheek.
"Jake.", you finally mumbled.
Richy looked sad after your words, and you realized that he got you wrong. You weren't asking for Jake, you wanted to warn him about Jake. You slightly shake your head.
"No? What no? Y/n what do you want to say?", Richy asked, confused.
"Jake. It was Jake."
Richy thought he didn't hear you right. Jake should have done this to you? Jake, who has a huge crush on you? The Jake who saved his life, after all he did, should try to end yours?
"You hit your head pretty hard. Maybe you saw it wrong. Listen, I will find a way to contact you when you are at the hospital. Don't tell anybody about your Jake theory until then. Alright? You will be okay. I promise.", he whispered and kissed your forehead.
"You should go now. They are coming.", Phil finally spoke from behind.
He was obviously mad about Richy's actions, you knew that, but he was also right. It hurts your feelings that you weren't able to say goodbye, but Richy hopefully knew that you wanted to. The said man gave your hand a quick squeeze, before he ran away.
Phil talked to you until the ambulance came. Most of his words were apologies or questions, but it's not like you could answer them anyway. Unfortunately, he wasn't allowed to come with you. While you were sad at first, the rescue workers gave you medication, so you didn't notice anything from the trip anyway.
The next thing you really remembered was waking up in the hospital the next morning. You were alone, but you were happy about it. You needed to think about so many things.
While you were starring at the ceiling thinking about everything that happened last night, Phil had to talk to Alan about what happened. Unknown to you, he waited the whole night in an uncomfortable chair in the hallway. He wasn't allowed to visit you, but he didn't want to leave you either. Alan understood his decision, so he was kind enough to ask him about the accident in the hospital.
"We asked his parents, Mr Hawkins. The jacket she was wearing was definitely one of Richy Rogger's. "
"I gave it to her. He once forgot it in my bar and I couldn't give it back to him before he died. Richy meant much to her. I gave it to Y/n as a memory or something. It's not like he would need it anymore anyway."
"Mr Hawkins. As much as I want to believe you, there is a problem.", Alan answered, "Her wounds didn't add up with the accident you described to us." She has a dislocated shoulder, a head laceration, bruised ribs, and a sprained wrist. That is almost nothing for an accident of this magnitude."
"I told you everything I know. I don't know what happened; she was alone. She borrowed my car. When I found her, she was laying on the ground as if somebody had driven her over. But I didn't do it. I was at the Aurora the whole time. But we have proof that somebody did this to her on purpose.", he hastened.
"I don't think so, because if the accident really happened like you described. Your friend would be dead." Phil felt even worse after the diagnosis. "How could she get out of the car, but wasn't able to move or speak afterwards? You said you had proof. Can I see it then?", Alan asked.
"I don't have my phone with me right now. Whoever it was took a picture and sent it to me, otherwise I wouldn't have found her.", he lied. He couldn't just say that the picture was sent to Richy, right?
"Bring the picture to the police station as soon as possible.", he demanded, and started to walk away, but stopped himself and turned around to say one last thing. "Do yourself a favor, Mr Hawkins, and don't leave Duskwood.", Alan said, and left the hospital.
He was annoyed that he - again - was the prime suspect. Didn't they look at the car? It wouldn't be in that condition after you hit a human. It would take a grizzly to do that much damage.
Alan visited you the next day and wanted you to answer some questions too. He promised you, you were allowed to see your friends after that, so you didn't complain.
"So Mrs Y/l, what happened that night?", he asked.
Of course he would start with an open question, you thought, but still tryed to remember everything.
"I was driving. It was dark and the driver of the other car had no lights on, otherwise I would have seen him.", you started and watched his movements closely. "When I finally saw him, it was to late to react and I crashed into him. I think I was unconscious for a few seconds, because the next thing I knew was, that he was standing next to me."
Alan nodded a bit while you were talking and wrote himself some notes.
"So you were still in the car?"
"Yes, he probably cut my seat belt because he was standing next to me for a few seconds. Then he dragged me out of the car. He searched for something. At least he was doing something with the car. He checked my pockets too. When he was finished, he looked at me for a couple of seconds and then left."
"You said 'he'. Could you see his face or did he say something to you?", Alan asked.
"No, it was to dark to see a face and he didn't say anything. I just guessed it. He was pretty strong, but he wasn't built like anybody I know."
"Mr Hawkins said someone sent him a picture."
"After he walked away, I saw a flash. So he probably took it then. I know what this looks like. It was Phil's car, and he was the one who found me. But I drove myself. I just borrowed it, because I arrived by bus here. He didn't drove me over."
"I believe you. You don't have to worry, Mrs Y/l. Almost everything stands against this theory. But I still have one last question. Mr Hawkins said something questionable. He said, that 'We have proof'. Do you know who he meant when he said 'we'?"
"I don't know, maybe he meant me or he showed the picture to my friends. I really don't know."
Alan left after that, and you were finally allowed to see your friends. They were all very worried. Especially Phil. He looked like he hadn't slept in days. Jessy later told you that he didn't. He was in the hospital the entire time, but wasn't allowed to see you.
"Seems like this group is magically attracted to car accidents.", you mumbled after everyone left, excluding Phil.
"Y/n, why is Richy alive?" he asked directly.
"Jake saved him. They asked me to not tell the others. I guess Jessy told you the truth, about Hannah's disappearance."
"She told everyone, except Hannah.", he answered.
"Richy isn't a bad guy. He wanted to do the right thing, he just did it the wrong way."
"The guy who crashed your car sent him a picture. He wrote something like, 'this is what you get'. I don't think he is a nice guy. Sorry.", Phil grumbled.
"But when he sent the picture to Richy, how did you know about it?", you asked, confused.
"He called me. Of course, I had many questions and didn't want to help him, but he said you were in danger. He sent me the picture and wanted to know where that place was. Luckily, I recognized the area, but I didn't want him to go alone. After all, it was his fault."
"No it wasn't. I can't tell you more about what happened because I simply don't know more, but I can guarantee you it wasn't about him."
"Y/n be careful with what you do. I don't trust him and I don't want you to be hurt more than you already are.", Phil mumbled and stroke your cheek, like Richy did two nights before.
"I'm, Phil, but please don't tell the others about him. He has to do it himself, someday or another."
"I hope you are right, my flower, because I can't bear to lose you.", he whispered and kissed your cheek. "I have to go now, the Aurora opens in half an hour. Be careful.", he stood up and walked to the door.
"Always. Oh, and could you do me a favor? It is so hot in here. Could you open a window, please?"
"I know that I'm good looking, but I didn't know you saw it the same way.", he laughed, but did what you asked for. "I will visit you tomorrow, so don't run away."
"Very funny, Mr Hawkins. Don't run over pretty girls."
"I only hit the most beautiful," he winked before shutting the door.
What just happened? You were a little happy that you weren't the only person who knew about Richy. On the other hand, Phil wasn't probably the best person to know. You decided to get some rest because the day was quite eventful, but after dozing for a few minutes, you wished Phil had never opened the window in the first place.
The floor cracked. Loud. It got you out of your slumber and, in a panic, you turned to the window. Your shoulder screamed at you in pain, but you were too shocked to notice it.
It’s kinda funny how Thomas simply takes Richy’s bloody cap and leaves his fingerprints on it, contaminating the crime scene
Just finished ep8 and HUM.🧍‍♂️
SPOILERS WARNING ⚠️
I couldn't hear what Micheal was saying very well (i need subtitles <\3) but in that case, Richy is dead isn't he?
But somehow, I don't think Hannah is dead (idk call it a gut feeling)
I still think Richy knew something IDK.. and like maybe it isn't even Micheal but someone using his house bc they knew it was abandoned (why would he use his abandoned house as refuge when he knew the police suspected him but again, it was 10 yrs ago so maybe they aren't keeping an eye on him anymore)
Hannah in her talks with the doctor mentions she's the same age as Jennifer was when she died which is why I think he's acting now (wish we could mention it but I tried my best to get as close as I could)
I don't know. It's just weird to me - like why would Micheal kill two girls who were CHILDREN at the time of Jennifer's death?? Just because they saw it? Or did something else happen there?
Clearly he cared for her if his motive is revenge..
IMO this was a bit too "clean", I think we will get a plot twist reveal later on.
- I'm still wondering who went with Hannah to Iris'
- Jake's ace has me worried (like hes going to do some self-sacrificial shit for mc 😭)
- i was so worried that the guy had tempered with Thomas's car (like he, allegedly, did with Dan)
- I wonder what we will learn from Ted Madruga
- the website was rlly cool :) loved reading the stories and participating in the forum, especially LadyLotus ;)
