The Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News, 18 August 1923, pictures King George V on board his 'veteran but successful yacht Britannia,' alongside the Duke of Connaught.
George V (George Frederick Ernest Albert; 3 June 1865 – 20 January 1936) was King of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions, and Emperor of India, from 6 May 1910 until his death in 1936.
Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn (Arthur William Patrick Albert; 1 May 1850 – 16 January 1942), was the seventh child and third son of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
He served as Governor General of Canada, the tenth since Canadian Confederation and the only British prince to do so.

Tumblr media
Previous Great Masters have included: His Majesty The King as The Prince of Wales (1974-2022), His Royal Highness Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester (1942-1974) and His Royal Highness Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn (1901-1942).
The Most Honourable Order of the Bath was established by King George I in 1725 although it is believed to originally date back as far as the eighth century. It is awarded to members of the military or civil service for exemplary service.
The Order of the Bath service is held every 4 years at Westminster Abbey. The most recent one was held in 2022. The Order will also mark its 300th anniversary in 2025.

I love reading about Queen Victoria's children. While people pay a big deal about Vicky as the great Empress Frederick, Bertie (because he, of course, was the heir, and even better, a problematic one), Baby as the queen's secretary, Louise as being the pretty rebel daughter of the strict QV and Alice's and Leo's tragic lifes, they tend to forget a lot of Alfred, Helena and Arthur. It is too much to ask about them? And even more about the child "who was dearer than all the others put together" Arthur, whom we only know was a soldier for all of his life.
May I say that if Bertie was jealous of Arthur being their mom's favorite as he was of Baby, we would hear about the Duke of Connaught more often.
Hi anon! I 100% agree with you.
Alfred Arthur and Helena are all EXTREMELY underrated and even sometimes even forgotten. I guess people just favor some people over others, just like Queen Victoria did. Alfred wasn’t very special in her mind, Helena was “ugly”, and Arthur was her favorite. It’s quite appealing how their own mother can pick and choose favorites just like the general public can. I say that we pay more attention to these beauties and show them the love that their father Albert had for them.
Thank you for asking!
