It’s Just Another Magic Monday: More Magic from My Bro- featuring Leif Garrett & The Rolling Stones
Tumblr media
I hope that you have been enjoying reading about the connection that I have with my brother.  The fun and magical flow have been continuing today… In fact, after I posted my first blog, I connected with my ole friend, singer Kristin Mooney-- she and I moved to LA from Minneapolis at the same time so we decided to share an apartment in Los Feliz together after my original possible living situation fizzled,  We lived together our first 1 1/2 years here and have occasionally been able to share the stage in a band called Rusty Truck the past 6plus years. (Below is a pic of Rusty Truck playing Annenburg Photography in Aug 2015)
Tumblr media
I haven't seen Kristin since our most recent RT show in December. After I wrote her she replied back to me that she just happened to think about me the day before when she drove by Griffith Park and saw a statue of Leif Erickson.  This is so perfect...because it leads to yet another Brett story.
Ok…so you are now probably wondering what is the association with Leif is…
 Flashback to June 30, 2000.
That was the day before my 30th birthday (easy way to remember the date). One of the new friends from my new LA music world was named Matthew Steer. His birthday is the day before mine...so there was a party in his honor at our friend Nina Baker's home. (and my name got to be on the cake, too)! Earlier in the day, about mid-afternoon, Kristin and I-- along with my brother,  who was staying with us for a few weeks-- drove down Los Feliz Blvd and passed by the statue head of Leif Erickson that resides in the southwest corner of Griffith Park.
After I jokingly told my brother that that was indeed the actual head of explorer Leif Erickson, my brother brought up another Leif-- and wondered aloud to us, "I wonder what Leif Garrett is up to these days?" We just let that go and got on with our afternoon.
Later that night, we all went to the party.  A few minutes after arriving, Kristin came up to me with a look of amusement...Guess what...Leif Garrett was at the party. I told my brother the news...as he had been unaware...before realizing that he actually already had a conversation with the man himself.
During that same week, I actually crossed paths with him again at the Cat Club on the Strip...and my brother was at a 4th of July party he was at...in my past 19 years here, we haven't seen him since...
The Rolling Stones 1997
As my brother just coughed up a lot of money to see the Rolling Stones in concert last month at Mile High Stadium in Denver, Colorado, I am reminded that I have been lucky enough to see them twice--for free-- as I  have won tickets to see them both times!!
In 1997, while I worked on analyzing mortgages in the post-closing department of then-called Norwest Mortgage (now Wells Fargo) as my day job, I went in to work on weekend for a few hours to make up for taking time off to do music during the week. That weekend local radio station, Cities 97, was playing nothing but The ‘Stones all weekend in honor of their upcoming tour stop in Minneapolis.  I thought it would be a fun way to work on a weekend…so I listened in. In fact, I knew the DJ working at that time- Jason Nagel.  I even gave him a call and told him that I was enjoying hearing all the deep Stones tracks.  A few minutes later they announced that they were giving away two tickets to caller number 9.  I called..it was ringing…and got thru as caller number 2…so I immediately hung up…and dialed again. Jason picked up and said “Congratulations you are caller number 9!” I thought and exclaimed immediately— "Jason, this is Todd…no one is going to believe us!”  He then calmed my worry by stating that he had fellow DJ Mad Mike Stapleton in the studio with him that could verify.  I won!!
Rolling Stones Part II. 2002/3
In the summer of 2002, just before going back overseas, Brett registered my name in a contest for tickets to see The Rolling Stones in DTN LA at Staples Center for their February 2003 concert.  As my brother would be away playing basketball, he wouldn't be able to go himself. He told me that if I won tickets, it was because he submitted my name.  And yes, we did it again.  More Music Magic!! Also, I should note that on the day after Brett saw the Stones concert, I saw that the movie First Blood (also known as John Rambo) was on TV.  I just happened to turn it on just before a scene of which my brother often quotes—Character Colonel Tom Trautman (as played by Richard Crenna) just shows up to town to tell the local authorities all about how he made John Rambo.  I immediately filmed the scene on my phone and texted it to Brett. He immediately replied: I watched the 2008 Rambo movie last night after I got home from the Stones concert. So yes...in some ways the magic continues...
Lets stay connected Please let me know if you have been reading my blogs...and I'd be grateful if you could take a moment to send me your email address.  I would love to share more stories with you personally by sending you an email each week and help get your week off to a bright start!  Cheers my friends! Todd

Avengers: Infinity War - Recensione NO SPOILER
Avengers: Infinity War - Recensione NO SPOILER #AvengersInfinityWar #MCU #MarvelStudios #DTN #DestroyThisNerd
