I don't understand the problem people have with rewrites of Dracula that humanize him. Yes, Dracula in the original book is a pure representation of evil. But like Carmilla he is a fictional and almost mythological figure at this stage who evolves with the times. The myth of the vampire has changed, so it is logical that Dracula himself follows this model. The book will still exist, so what's the problem ? The same goes for offering him a romance, whether or not it is with a rewriting of the character of Mina or an another invented female character, or sometimes a woman linked to the Van helsing lineage, or even Van helsing changed directly into a woman !
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even Jonathan himself for exemple in order to explore a homosexuality or bisexuality in the story of Dracula ! Strangely I always see fewer people revolting when Jonathan is placed as a romantic interest. I totally see where that's coming from, but the fact is that their relationship isn't good in the original material either.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for the problem of Mina, a strong female character, apparently having her strong characteristics erased when she is made Dracula's lover... I don't agree.
Tumblr media
After all, it all depends on how the thing is done. Yes, the Mina from the 1992 film is not the one from the book (which is far from being a flawless representation of a strong woman... Yes, for the time when the book was released, it works, but in our time modern era, there are flaws apparently, as with most works dating back a certain number of years), but she still remains a strong female character in her own way and morally ambiguous in this adaptation. It's just a different version. I particularly liked the version of Mina in the canceled series of 2013. These 3 versions of Mina are all strong women on different levels.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Don't make me say what I didn't say. I love the original version of Dracula, and I really hope one day to have a more or less faithful adaptation, but the rewritings of the characters of Dracula and Mina are not to be demonized. I also think that we will surely continue in the future to have versions where Mina and Dracula are associated together as lovers, as other times not. Maybe one day we'll even have a version with Dracula and Jonathan officially partnered as lovers. Who knows ? And everything will simply depend on the writing of the characters. On the other hand, yes, I am a little exasperated by the tendency to make Jonathan a character either bland or an asshole in certain adaptations. Give me the adorable Harker from the book for a change please... Anyway, these are my thoughts on the various adaptations of the Dracula myth !

Where his vampire lineage is concerned, I feel like Alucard led a pretty sheltered life before Lisa died.  He certainly knows how to use his vampire abilities, but I don’t think he knows very much about his father’s people.
Tumblr media
When Sumi and Taka mention Cho, Alucard apparently did not recognize her even though he and Sypha are the ones who killed her.  So he never met Cho, even though she was one of Dracula’s generals.  Sure, this can probably be explained by distance.  Wallachia and Japan are thousands of miles away from each other, but this still doesn’t explain why Alucard didn’t even know/recognize her name.
Also, in Season 2, he never once tells Sypha or Trevor anything about the vampires who fight for his father, which would have been extremely useful information.
Based on all of this, Dracula probably never told him anything about his Generals.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Isaac straight up refers to Alucard as a spoiled child and doesn’t even regard him as a threat.  There’s a history here we didn’t get to see, but clearly Isaac didn’t think too much of him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then there’s this scene.  He’s pretty bitter and hostile toward the Belmonts.  But if we look at it from the context to Lament of Innocence, Alucard conveniently leaves out how Dracula orchestrated the kidnapping and murder of Leon’s fianceé.  So either he doesn’t care, which is out of character, or he was never told this part of the story.
Even if we don’t take the video games into consideration though, there’s still what Dracula did to the merchants at Kronstadt.  We don’t know what his issue was with them, but what is the worst a group of humans can do to seriously offend a vampire?  (Lisa’s death excluded.)  Did the punishment really fit the crime?  Plus, this can’t be the only horrible thing the vampire has done throughout his career, and I imagine even Dracula isn’t one to sit his son down and tell him all about the lives he’s taken.  This makes sense if he dedicated his final years to his human wife and his child.
Tumblr media
I’ve mentioned in a previous post how the skull Alucard is looking at in this scene is the skull of a vampire infant, so I really think this scene is a subtle nod to ‘atrocities are committed by all sides in war.’
In Alucard’s mind, Trevor is a useless drunk, but Trevor might’ve viewed him as just a brat who only knows one side of the story and that’s the side that puts his father in a favorable light.

It’s always “She’s so pretty” and “I love her so much.” why is it never “She was the one thing that justified humanity’s stench upon this planet.” smh

Anytime I’m sad I think about how these two were given a relatively happy ending and my heart is healed a little bit.
It would have been perfect if they could have reunited with Alucard, but the situation makes it understandable.

Metamorphose: A Castlevania Fanfiction
Tumblr media
[6/20 chapters posted so far; 63,495 words at this point]
Excerpt: No human had ever surprised him as she did. No human ever had the gall or the courage to burst into his castle, unannounced, insisting that he teach her science and care about humans. No one had dared to. Before, they came for money. The knowledge they desired was for the purpose of defeating their enemies. They came because of petty disputes and pathetic wars, and they begged at his feet like worms. Not Lisa. No. She was strong, independent, intuitive, and young. Full of wit and charm. It had been so long since he had witnessed the beauty and youth of mortals who had not yet become disillusioned to the world. Vlad considered himself. How many years had he been secluded inside his castle-keep, his realm of darkness? As the nights slipped by infinitely and he was unaware of the world around him? His realm was a void, dark and joyless. He had lived that way for a long time. He had made the lonely prison himself. But she was pure light. And he was drawn to her.
“I think I might like you,” he admitted, smiling in earnest and meeting her gaze with newfound mirth glittering in his red eyes.
(Backstory of Lisa and Vlad's relationship)

When you realize why Dracula never turned Lisa after watching Nocturne. He’d never subject her to that, and he’d respect her too much to ever make a decision she hadn’t for herself.
Because Nocturne really put the horror in vampiric transformation. There was nothing gentle or kind about it. It burns. It’s painful. You watch humanity die as it’s devoured by an animalistic hunger.
Dracula loved Lisa. He adored her. He could never and would never. And seeing what happened to Tera, it makes what happened to Olrox’s partner so much more tragic. He deprived the man of a choice in the matter (as we know), and from what we can infer, the transformation was not pleasant and in many ways is painted as an assault.
Then Julia Belmont kills him. One of the few decent vampires around.

I'm laughing so hard. Lisa straight up kills a bat for no reason in the first episode. Now I'm just imagining this was an impulse reaction, like it flew at her face and startled her, because if you're seeking help from the man rumored to be a vampire, killing one of his 'maybe' pets probably isn't a great way to kick things off.
My new headcanon is Dracula can become a colony of bats like Lenore and Alucard can, so he was in fact the swarm in the opening scene getting an incognito look at who was at the front door, where he got stabbed out of nowhere, and then had to quickly play it off like it didn't happen. Lisa never found out but suspected for years.

So I got a theory as to why Alucard went from this in the original show:
Tumblr media
To this in Nocturne:
Tumblr media
We’re shown in the first show that Alucard ages more or less like a human except much faster but even as an adult he’s still looks more like Lisa than Vlad. Well my theory is that eventually his human aging got to a point where he “died” and took on more of a vampiric appearance. Hence why his hair is white like an old man and why his skin is ghostly white like his dad’s.
Further proof:
