it's well known that Kazuki Takahashi created the protagonist designs for DM, GX and 5DS, but he also worked on a significant portion of Zexal's cast, designing Yuma, Astral, Zexal I, Shark, Kaito, Kotori, Faker, Haruto, Anna, Cathy, as well as Hope Utopia and Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon. (He also appeared to design a very different early version of "Mizael" but more on that in another post)

Some of these sketches were seen before Zexal started airing in Japan, while others were revealed in Kazuki Takahashi's artbook "Duel Art"

I heard some theories behind the reason why Dr. Faker was called Faker instead of Dr. Tenjo but I think the most obvious reason behind that is the writers wanted to make a "shocking reveal" that Dr. Faker was Kaito's father in episode 55 and of course, if they were both called Tenjo we would have made the connection straight away (even though personally his starfruit hair kind of gave it away - like father like son - better than other parents in Zexal and the potato explanation behind genetics in zexal)

Although the canon explains the reason why Kaito never calls him father before the last episodes of Zexal 1 and gives a valid reason for it, it never explains why Faker is called by his first name?

I truly believe there is no "canon" reason behind it and it is purely because of the fact Dr. Faker sounds more interesting than Dr. Tenjo. As one of the main antagonist of Zexal 1, an important character such as him needs to have his own name and identity and the name "Faker" characterises him, and they had to add the "Dr." to fit him under the stereotypical mad scientist category - you can't be a mad scientist without a good ol' PhD!

But I'm curious if anyone can explain this in terms of canon
