- My favourite game to play atm is phone monopoly although I have an unfortunate tendency to lose.

- can this person be dead? If so it would have to be Elvis (although Bowie is a very close second). With people that are alive I really want to go to an Arctic monkeys concert! Ooo also I’ve got tickets to Elton Johns tour!

- for a first date I would probably take someone (you) for a picnic where we could talk and read and get to know each other. I’m definitely not one for dinner dates or overly romantic dates so I feel like a picnic is a nice relaxed environment to get to know someone.

Ang utak ng tao gawa sa delicate tissues and concoction of substances na naka encase sa skull o bungo. Sa sobrang delicate ng material na to, kailangan pang iemmerse sa alcohol o kaya naman fixatives para lang makakuha ng specimen. Kung hindi, magdidisintegrate ang mga parts nito.

Humigit kumulang 3 pounds ang timbang ng utak ng isang avaergae human being. Sing bigat ito ng sa dolphin kaya sinasabi ng iba mabilis magadapt at trainable sila. Ang galing nung napanood kong movie, yung Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind, kasi dun binura yung isang tao sa utak nya, pero di naman biglaan, nakikita nya sa utak nya na nabubura yung tao at yung mga memories na attached sa taong yun. Lovestory yun e, dinitch sya nung babae , nagalit sya sa babae kaya nya pinabura. Pero sa bandang huli pinigilan nya. Kasama kasing nabubura yung magandang memories din nila.

Ang sarap isipin kung kaya mong kontrolin ang utak. Wag yan...eto, wag mong gawin... eto dapat. Pero kung magaassign kang isang organ na aatasan mongkumontrol sa utak? ano yun??

sasabihin ng mgamaddrama puso.. pwede.through impulses?..Okaya tenga. magpapadala ng signal sa utak pag gusto magshutdown saglit. nakakatawa no.. di mo makontrol. kahit nga lang yung may bigla kang maalala na pangyayari galing sa nakaraan, nakabaon sa utak yun.

Meron tayong conscious at subconscious thoughts na nabubuo sa araw araw na experiences natin. Yung conscious thoughts mo e yung mga nakaimbak sa memorya mo. Yung mga subconcious thoughts yun namang nadadaanan ng sesses mo in passing na nasasave padin sa utak.. Usually yung mga yun nagaappear daw through dreams. Kaya vague ang mga to dahil collective ideas sila nanaipon during the day at time bago ka matulog.

Nakakatawa nga e minsan may nagsabi sakin, ang hirap alalahanin nung mga bagay na naklimutan mo, pero ang hirap kalimutan ng ayaw mong alalahanin...

Oo may punto. mahirap nga naman kasi. Pero kung may choice ka naman diba, bat mo papahirapan ang sarili mo na alalahanin??

E wala ka kasingchoice dahi ldikta ng utak.

Yun naman din ang ayaw ko sa utak, kelangan lagi ikondisyon. Kailangan positive para daw maganda ang flow ng energy sa maghapon kelangan di nagiisip ng negative thoughts. Buti ang apdo at ataydi mo kailangan ikondisyon. Basta ginagawa lang nilayung mgabagay na kailangn nilang gawin.

Utak na yata ang pinakakomplikadong parte ng tao. Khit nga mga scientist gumugugol ng panahon, pera at pasensya para lang mapag aralan to. Ironic e no.. Isa ito sa may pinaka delicate na material pero iosa sa pinaka makapangyarihan.

Minsan pag nakatitig ako sa isang tao, iniisip ko kung ano kaya ang iniisip nya. Kung pano nya gamitin ang utak nya. Kung parehas ba kami ng iniisip. Kaya mahirap sukatin ang laman ng utak eh. sabi nila ang mga matattalino daw maraming laman ang utak. Kung tutuusin lahat naman ng tao maraming laman ang utak. Kasi wala namang taong hindi nagiisip at bakante ang utak. kahit yung may mga sakit pa sa utak.

Pano mo ba malalaman na matalino ang isang tao? pag perfect sa exams? pag nag aaral sa magandang unibersidad? pag maraming medalya? Oo pwde. pero para sakin marami ring ibang sukatan ng talino e. Tao rin lang ang gumawa nyan e. Kunwari pinag harap mo ang isang artist at isang henyo, malamang sa hindi, di magkakasundo sa ideya ang mga yan.. Magkaiba sila ng talino e. Makita mo yang artist na yan pwdeng semplang pa sa pagaaral o kaya naman avaerge na studyante pero napakagaling pag dating sa sining. So matalino parin sya kung ganun.

Yung talino mo iba sa talino ng iba. kaya wag mong isipin na yung Alam mo e hindi alam ng iba dahil lang "tingin mo" e mas matalino ka pa sakanila. Baka nga mas marami pang alam sayo ang iba e. Kaya ingat inagat at isip isip muna bago nagrereact sa mga bagay na hindi naman talaga natin naiintindihan.

Natatwa nga ko minsan sa expression na " Mautak talaga yan!". pano naman naging mautak ang pagiging magulang? Dahil umiisip sya ng short cut? o mas madaling paraan para makuha yung gusto nya? hindi rin.. Pandaraya naman na kasi yun e. O kaya naman yung mga naloko or iniwan ng mga karelasyon. Transponder

I have been working on some space ambient music. Having picked up an iPad a while ago, I’ve only now been experimenting with Garageband, and recently begun experimenting with Cakewalk. Of the two, Cakewalk is clearly more powerful, but Garageband is more accessible for my dolphin brain, which is accustomed to searching for fish and not for arranging things in a DAW. The music is slow, and simple, and meditative, and ambient, but it is coming. I hope to post my first proper track soon.

Identifying Signature Whistles of Bottlenose Dolphins from a small coastal population in Panama

Becky has championed the exhaustive task of identifying dolphin’s signature whistles. Unfortunately classification algorithms for dolphin whistles detection are not yet fully available. Thus, Beckyhas to find them ‘by hand’ in a large database of sounds. Here she tells us more about her project

For the past year, I have been working on identifying signature whistles of bottlenose dolphins recorded using passive acoustic recorders deployed in the Archipelago of Bocas del Toro, Panama. My work is in collaboration with graduate student Betzi Perez at McGill University and Dr. May-Collado. Signature whistles can be thought of as names for dolphins. Each individual dolphin has a unique signature whistle that they use to maintain contact with one another. Dolphins can even copy each other’s signature whistles to call specifically to one another!

This year in CURE I am going to go even further with this topic. As the dolphins in Bocas del Toro have been well photographed and recorded, I am going to attempt to match signature whistles to the dolphins emitting them. Currently, I am still going through passive recordings to expand my signature whistle catalogue, but once I have finished, I will look at older recordings done using a research boat in hopes of matching signature whistles emitted with dolphins spotted at the same time.  If this goes successfully, dolphins in this population will be able to be identified using just their signature whistles from passive recordings!

The trouble I am facing at this point in my progression is just going through the vast amount of recordings. With three more locations as well as older recordings to analyze, there are a lot of recordings to sort through.  Each recording needs to be looked at, and the whistles found identified as signature or not. However, as long as I stay on schedule in my work, I will be able to finish and have a lot of data to analyze.  After sorting through the recordings my next step will be to potentially match the whistles with the dolphins, which will hopefully lead to a better understanding of these animals and their behavior.

The Shark Arm Mystery: The Murder of Jim Smith.

Call it bizarre, gory or just plain intriguing the Shark Arm murder mystery case is definitely something to mull over. After finding out about this grisly tale, on a trip to Sydney I was interested to explore the sights of this infamous murder mystery. There’s something bizarrely intriguing about a fisherman catching a smaller shark and the smaller shark being devoured in front of his eyes by a larger tiger shark, and for the the tiger shark to then be taken back to a local public bath, only to vomit up a tattooed human arm a few days later in front of spectators. 

James ‘Jim’ Smith. 

A petty criminal and police informant, the last time James 'Jim' Smith was seen alive by his wife, was on the night of April the 7th 1935, as he headed off for a night of drinking. Jim was spotted throughout the night at the Cecil Hotel in the Sydney beachside suburb of Cronulla, drinking in the company of another man. His worried wife didn't hear anything for another week, and it wasn’t until Jim's brother recognized the tattoos on a photo of an arm coughed up by a shark at the Coogee Aquarium and Swimming Baths, that they found out the tragic truth, that he had been murdered. Like many small time crooks before him, Jim had gotten in over his head after he began blackmailing and informing on some of Sydney’s top crooks involved in insurance fraud scams. (Currently working in insurance sales myself, I found this aspect of the case a rather ironic twist.)

The first stop of my trip was to head out to Cronulla beach, a peaceful and affluent suburb located on Sydney’s outer suburbs. In place of the Cecil Hotel where Jim was last seen alive now sits the Cecil Apartments complex.

Just a short stroll away is the peaceful beach side street Taloombi, believed to have been where Jim was murdered at a cottage rented out by small time crook Patrick Brady 

Despite hearing much praise of Cronulla, I personally enjoyed my visit to Coogee beach more. After some friendly teasing from a ticket inspector about my mispronunciation of Coogee which apparently is said ‘coujee’ not ‘cougay’, I arrived at the beach, a beautiful yellow sandy bay, with sparkling blue waters even on a grey day.

In the 1930s the suburb of Coogee beach sported an exciting and bustling promenade of shops stretching across Dolphin, Arden and Beech streets. These days the area is a bit more quiet with a row of mostly restaurants and a few shops but still has an air of fun to the area. Now sitting on the former site of the Coogee Aquarium and Swimming Baths is the meticulously well preserved Coogee Pavilion, a restaurant that has paid homage to its past, with many of the historical features of the building still intact, even the tap I poured my water from appearing to be authentic turn of the century.

At the bar I ordered an apricot brandy (normally I’m a teetotaller but the occasion seemed fitting to sip on an 1930s style drink) and some oysters as an appetizer. I was hoping for some flake or local catch fished from the bay to fit in with the theme of my trip, but as that was not an option, I settled on baked snapper with beans as my main course.  After a mild disappointment over there being no flake as I really had wanted to enjoy dining on shark meat while exploring the case, you can imagine my delight when this gruesome looking fella showed up as my meal.

Not missing the opportunity, I educated one of the lady bar tenders about the buildings gory history, then headed off to my next sight seeing adventure, number 3 Bay street, the address of Sydney insurance embezzler Reginald Holmes, who quickly became a main suspect in the case, after a taxi driver reported he dropped an agitated and dishevelled Patrick Brady at Holmes’s house on the last night Jim was seen alive.

Holmes grew increasingly panicked as detectives began closing in on him as another main suspect, and on the 5th of May he speed around Sydney Bay in his private boat with police in hot pursuit, before attempting to shoot himself in the head. Under police interrogation he insisted Patrick Brady had shown up at his house with the dead Jim’s arm and demanded he pay him 500 dollars or he would be framed for murder. After Brady left, Holmes reported he took the arm and threw it into the bay of Sydney suburb Maroubra.

Holmes’s dead body was found in his car a few days later in the early morning hours on Hickson Road in Sydney’s Dawes Point with gunshot wounds to his head, sadly leaving behind a wife and children. Was it a staged murder to cover up what he knew or suicide to escape the heat?

Heading off from Sydney bay, it was dark by the time I headed off to Dawes Point with the walk having a bit of a spooky feel to it. Many of the old buildings in the area from the 1930s still remain and have kept their original facades, so it wasn’t too hard to imagine the area back then.

There was a clear motive for Holmes to have played a role in Jim's murder, with Jim reportedly having blackmailed Holmes in relation to some large insurance fraud fiascos they pulled off. Brady himself was not let off the hook and was later charged with murder by Sydney police, but with police unable to piece together enough evidence, the case was dropped.  

The actual cause of Jim’s death and his killer has never been discovered. Would as much knowledge of murder still have come to light had the tiger shark not vomited up his arm at the aquarium? Without such a gruesome twist would the taxi driver that night and others at the Cecil Hotel have known to come forward over the disappearance of a small time crook, who prior to his murder was  probably not that well known? The identity of whoever actually killed Jim was never uncovered and to this day the case remains unsolved.

In Case You Missed It: News and Rumors – Week of November 30, 2018

This week has been the LONGEST!!!! Who else agrees with me? Five day weeks are for the birds.

There were a lot of interesting articles that came out this week! We see two new movie trailers, learn about a new lawsuit for Disney and Fox, and see what’s going on over at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin. And that’s just to start!

In Case You Missed It – Disney and Universal Orlando News and Rumors

Walt Disney World Guests will soon have a new hotel to visit….The Cove is going to be the new section built as part of the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin resorts.

There’s a new boutique that’s open onboard Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Fantasy….BVLGARI. Will you shop here?

Could Disneyland Paris see a massive increase? It looks like Disneyland Paris is set to double its visitor capacity, triple the number of hotel rooms and possibly building a third theme park by 2030.

Disney and Fox are being sued for $1.75 billion, as they are being accused of “improperly” pulling the plug on a long-planned “first-class, worldclass” and under construction “Fox World” theme park on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur.

This is extremely interesting and I look forward to learning more about what’s going on here. Audi and Disney have teamed for a  project that will be revealed at CES 2019. (That’s in January….)

With the recent debut of The Lion King trailer that debuted this past week and its massive success, The Hollywood Reporter looks at these Disney remakes and asks a very important question. Should Disney be taking more creative risks with these films or should they continue to be almost identical to their original versions?
