if you're taking them: betrayal, mask and mistake from the not-so-nice OC asks!

OH WE'RE GONNA TALK ABOUT OPPORTUNITY HUH!

betrayal: Has your OC ever been betrayed by someone they thought they could trust? Has your OC ever betrayed someone who trusted them?

Yes and yes. It's the same person. Early in her first free years Opportunity was chaotic, selfish, savvy, charismatic, had a very good friend named Zarados. Polar opposites. Zarados was trusting, kind, and law-abiding. That Zarados saw anything good in Opportunity was a miracle that she cherished. Deep deep deeeeeep down she thought that maybe if someone so good could see worth in her, it was actually there. She very quietly, very secretly took teeny tiny steps towards being that better person. One day on the high seas with her friends, they came across a famous pirate ship being assaulted by a deep sea monster. They saved that ship and its crew but not before the ship itself had been rendered defenseless. Then, one of the royal galleons showed up, demanding Opportunity stand aside and allow them the honor of capturing the ship and imprisoning or killing its remaining crew. Opportunity, who had no allegiance to this galleon (and knew in fact that the organization they came from was often no better behaved than pirates themselves) was not inclined to accept. She also knew terrible fates would await the people they had just saved... and any favor she had curried with the organization of pirates would be lost. So she devised a ploy to stake claim to the ship herself, and created a ruse to lure the royal galleon away. Zarados hated this. Coming from a life of romanticizing heroes and royalty, he instinctively wanted to trust the new ship and crew and abandon the pirates to their fate. He went along with Opportunity's ruse, but with barely restrained anger and obvious disappointment. Exhausted by the events of the day, the pair didn't resolve the conflict between them, instead opting to rest. The next day, Opportunity sought out Zarados to try and explain the situation better... with the intent of even mustering up something very close to an apology. Instead she found a note on his bunk--a farewell to all of the crew--as he had magically teleported away. Never to adventure with them again. Needless to say Opportunity was crushed and it cemented a hardness in her heart that lived with her forever. She never forgave him for leaving, for not giving her a chance to explain, and for (temporarily) snuffing out that little hope that she could be a hero.

mask: Does your OC wear a mask, literally or figuratively? What goes on beneath it? Is there anyone in their life who gets to see who they are under the mask?

Not only is Opportunity a changeling, but she was raised to be an infiltrator. The woman is nothing BUT masks. She has tons of different aliases across the world. She didn't start using her actual face among the party until like... a year and a half into playing the campaign. Aside from the literal aspect, Opportunity definitely wore a mask of selfishness for a long time. She spent so much of her life not belonging to herself that she vowed to never let anyone else hold any sway over her. Which meant backstabbing, betraying, and never forming any connections she wasn't instantly ready to sever if it meant her own survival. But WHOOPS, all those people she thought she could betray on a whim... oh no she cares about them, who could have seen this coming. I think her teammate, Mozi was probably the first person to see real Opportunity. If only on accident. He was so obviously himself inside and out, without the capability to hide any of it, that Tuni just... relaxed. He was the first person she trusted her identities to. After that, the dragon she raised (Jaesteriax) got the 100% authentic Opportunity. Eventually some key NPC's and the rest of her party got to see that true self too ;)

mistake: What's the worst mistake your OC ever made? What led to them making it? Have they been able to fix it? How have they moved on?

OH GOOD WE CAN TALK ABOUT THE FALLOUT FROM THE ABOVE FALLOUT. Opportunity eventually realizes that the worst mistake they ever made was hinging their worth on the opinion of someone they'd put up on a pedestal. In the aftermath of Zarados leaving, Opportunity was probably extra selfish and cruel, and it set her back a lot from trusting people. But eventually the hurt turned into anger, and thinking on that anger is what lead her to the realization that she didn't want to cut ties with her friends and loved ones to save her own skin. Zarados, who she had held up as the epitome of Just and Good, had abandoned her on a whim (something which she should have had no issue with, something she'd told herself constantly she might have to do in order to survive), and she fucking hated that. So Opportunity just... set about becoming powerful, gathering up favors from people with sway. She positioned herself in such a way that she could protect whatever was important to her so that she wouldn't have to cut ties. Tuni clawed her way into being one of the most renowned women in the world in order to keep her people safe. In the end, the mistake made her loyal. She's still bitter as fuck about Zarados though.

God I am so insanely proud of this gd novella of a fic I've been writing for the last month or so. I have the whole thing mapped out (3 acts, but the third act is separated into 2 parts) and act 1 is nearly finished. I just can't believe how much I have done already. For the last 5 years I've been struggling so hard to write anything consistently, like I had my own original stories planned and bits and pieces of them written but I struggled so hard to make the plot coherent and the characters dynamic and it was making me feel so sad and unenthusiastic abt writing. And then I fuckin watched TROS and got so pissed abt how dirty they did my faves that I was suddenly inspired to write my own self indulgent af fix it fic 😂😂😂

It's just so funny to me that the driving force behind me getting back into the swing of writing stories was being so deeply unsatisfied with the fates of my favorite characters that I felt the overwhelming need to take matters Into my own hands and rewrite it in a way that panders to what I want for them.

#listen i love terrible movies for this exact reason #im not saying the sequels are the worst movies ever like there is a reason that my autism brain clings to them like gum on hot pavement #i do understand peoples frustration and hard feelings towards the sequels tho and i think thats totally valid #im suuuuper late to the party on this one but had i been a massive fan at the time of the sequels release i probably would have been #all the more pissed off #BUT #i personally think times like these are excellent opportunities to exercise my imagination and see what i could come up with instead #if u dont like the canon story theres no shame in writing your own!! and it could be a very cathartic experience too!!! #i also started this fic because my therapist told me it could be a good outlet and boy howdy is it ever #its not a brilliant jaw dropping revolutionary story but it is special to me and fun to write and has been a very welcome coping mechanism #so yeah just had to shout into the void about it for a while because i have some big feelings abt it

Clan Rivensong Dragon Share Bracket

Hello! Over the next couple days, I will be starting the Clan Rivensong 2023 Bracket! Since Tumblr got polls, I've wanted to see who the public decides is the most popular dragon in my lair, as part of a way to help motivate myself to share more of my lore as well.

Current Rules:

-Only dragons who are a part of Clan Rivensong (and the Omens) are eligible for this contest. Some dragons have been included from the hibernal den as they will be lore relevant one day, and others have been discluded due to not having a place in the lore/needing to limit the number of dragons to make the bracket work/my personal whim.

-Dragons have been organized into the bracket based on existing likes before this game started, in order to ensure that already popular dragons are arranged properly. I am trying to avoid letting my personal preference alter the results of this contest!

-I will share a full bracket at some point before we begin.

-All polls will be posted gradually, as there are a total of 32 matchups at the beginning, to avoid spamming Flight Rising tags. Each poll will be open for one day. Later matchups will be open for longer. In the case of a tie or a no-vote poll, the matchup will be redone at the end of the round.

-All posts related to this will be tagged with "Rivensong bracket"! This is so anybody can filter out or follow this bracket.

i feel like there would be some subtle signs that könig took an interest in you…

- sometimes he likes to watch you struggle with what little height you have to reach up for the top shelves in the kitchen on base. poor thing, it looks like you need some help from a big, strong, super tall man :( he chuckles a little before stepping in to grab what you needed, but not before playfully dangling it high up over your head to watch you jump for it. “hah, you look like a katze right now.”

- this man eats like a motherfucker. if he even offers to share food with you, that’s basically his way of proposing. you said yes once, and now he’s bringing you snacks all the time before you even have to ask. he wants to feed you, make sure you’re nourished before and after missions- just let the big guy dote on you!

- he doesn’t say much, but it’s because he doesn’t need to; his presence does all the talking. all of kortac went out to a dingy bar one night, and you better believe you were the safest person in the room with all 6-foot-something of him staying close behind you. one glowering look from him is all it takes to get someone to back off- no one touches his precious little katze.

i feel like there would be some subtle signs that gaz took an interest in you…

- he’ll FaceTime you randomly from wherever he is, whether he’s in a safehouse or on the other side of the base. he just likes to get a glimpse of your face whenever he can :’) if he can’t video call you then he’s spamming you with memes that he saw; he knows exactly how to make you laugh.

- you were talking about your favorite food one day, and somehow by total coincidence he cooked it in the base kitchen a few days later! and how convenient, he over-estimated the ingredients and ended up fixing enough for two people! he just might need your help with finishing it ;) he’s already thinking about what to have for dessert…

- he’s a fantastic listener, always letting you vent to him when a new recruit pisses you off or when you’re unhappy with how the latest mission went. he hates seeing you so upset, wishing he could take all your irritations away :( he always stops himself just before can suggest some not-so-fraternization-policy-friendly ways of helping you relieve that stress :’)

i feel like there would be some subtle signs that soap took an interest in you…

- he always notices whenever you use a different body wash or fragrance, and he’ll be the first ask you what the new scent is. no one else really detects it the way he does, but he pays so much attention to you that he can’t help it. he also can’t help but want his sheets to smell like you too <3

- he insists on taking selfies with you wherever you’re on missions together. suddenly it’s a thing, and now you’re taking them together all the time when you’re off base. you think it’s a fun way to document all the places you travel to, but to him it’s the perfect excuse to have some pictures of your pretty face on his phone :’)

- he likes to initiate all kinds of competitions with you during missions- who can reload their weapon the fastest, who can shoot from the furthest distance, etc. it’s honestly kinda hot seeing you get so focused. his wagers start out fairly normal, but if you’re game then he definitely ups the ante. maybe the winner gets to do whatever they want to the loser…you’d never noticed him training so much before ;)

i feel like there would be some subtle signs that price took an interest in you…

- he’s always nearby when you’re training on the shooting range, readily available to critique your aim and give you some pointers. does this involve standing suuuuper close and physically moving your arms and feet to fix your position? with him, it always does <3

- this man stares you down during debriefings. it’s like you become his focal point- he’ll glance at the others every once in a while, but his gaze always settles back on you. he just thinks you look so adorable all focused and serious while he’s talking!

- one night you were outside after a mission, and he was puffing on a cigar from his prized collection. he was asking you about the operation, wanting to know how you felt about it before casually handing the cigar to you- how could you refuse your captain? you’d never touched one of those before so you coughed and sputtered after taking a pitiful puff (it was like an indirect kiss, too!!) and he chuckled amusedly at you. “looks like you need some more practice. i can help with that.”
