WORLD OSTEOPOROSIS DAY. Women especially mothers are at an increased risk of developing it. We run around, play with our kids, carry our 4 years olds when they are sad, cook, clean, do laundry, homeschool, etc. All without a day off. Doing all this work needs more than just the super power of being a mom. You got to have a healthy body to continue the same lifestyle that you had in your 20s. Medical speaking a woman's body starts losing calcium from its bones after the age of 30. Ideally one needs to replace it through diet or supplements. Osteoporosis is called a silent disease because most people don't realize they have it until they fall and break a bone. It is never too late to make lifestyle changes to help prevent or slow Osteoporosis, but the earlier you start, the better. 2 Major lifestyle factors are important to prevent osteoporosis: 🍖DIET - getting enough Calcium and Vitamin D are essential. SOURCES OF CALCIUM INCLUDE : 📌dairy products like milk and yogurt 📌fortified products such as juice and non-dairy drinks 📌tofu 📌dark leafy greens Women under 50yrs need atleast 1.000mg/day women over 50 need atleast 1,200mg/ day. SOURCES OF VITAMIN D INCLUDE : 📌fish 📌egg yolks 📌fortified products such as milk and juice 📌sunshine Women under 50 need at least 400 to 800 IU (international units) women over 50 need atleast 800 to 1,000 IU daily. About 10 minutes in the sun without sunscreen, before 10am will suffice. 🎾EXERCISE -is the other major lifestyle factor. Exercises that are weight-bearing include: ✔️Walking / Running/ Hiking ✔️Dancing ✔️Zumba ✔️Tennis / Pickleball ✔️ Weight training Did you know about osteoporosis? What steps are you taking/planning to take for the sake of your bones? #osteoporosisprevention #osteoporosisawareness #osteoporosis #doctormommyspeaks #doctorsofinstagram #physicianmom #physician #doctorlifestyle #bmiblogs #momsgrid #calciummilkplus #lifestyleguide #saveyourbones (at India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGmkbavF_1B/?igshid=s5785gqxvc7i

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY - Depression In Parents Depression is one of the most common mental health disorders in the United States, affecting over 16 million adults. Approximately 15.6 million children - 1 in 5 - live with a parent who is severely depressed. There is a strong link between parents’ mental health and their children’s development. Parents who are depressed may experience difficulties with their mood, thinking, and ability to engage in everyday activities, such as sleeping, eating, and working.  Compared to parents who are not depressed, they are also more likely to engage in negative parenting behaviors (e.g., to be hostile, withdrawn, abusive, neglectful), and less likely to be warm, sensitive, and responsive to their children’s needs.  Children of parents with untreated depression have higher rates of behavior problems, difficulty coping with stress and forming healthy relationships, academic problems, and mental illness, compared to children whose parents are not depressed. Even when it is severe, parental depression can be treated effectively, often through a combination of psychotherapy, medication, and mind-body practices (e.g., yoga, meditation, and other forms of self-care). We need to take care of ourselves first to be able to tend to our kids with the appropriate love and care they deserve.  #depressionawareness #depressionkills #depressioninmen #depressioninparents #worldmentalhealthday #worldmentalhealthday2020 #doctormommyspeaks #doctorsofinstagram #physicianmom #psychologist #counselling (at India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGKoAKJFrUh/?igshid=g7qjhbt0wgo8

Weight loss and dieting  I am sure everyone has tried a hand at dieting because why not. Healthy living begins with the food you consume and conscious eating is the first step towards living a healthy lifestyle.  When you start dieting, the first thing you are asked to do, is cut down on sugars.  And many resort to artificial sweeteners aas they are zero or low calorie options. An artificial sweetener/sugar substitute is a food additive that provides a sweet taste like that of sugar while containing significantly less food energy than sugar-based sweeteners, making it a zero-calorie or low-calorie sweetener. But heres the catch they aren't all that healthy. people who routinely use artificial sweeteners may start to find less intensely sweet foods, such as fruit, less appealing and unsweetened foods, such as vegetables, downright unpalatable.  Research suggests that they may prevent us from associating sweetness with caloric intake. As a result, we may crave more sweets, tend to choose sweet food over nutritious food, and gain weight.  All of this is because a miniscule amount produces a sweet taste comparable to that of sugar, without comparable calories, so u still feel hungry.  Moderation is the key.  There are many kinds of artificial sweeteners and plant based stevia ones are the best.  More on weight-loss and dieting coming up in next post #weightlosstruggle #weightlossfoodideas #weightlossfooddiary #weightlossfood #artificialsweetners #lowcaloriemeals #lowcalorierecipes #lowcaloriediet #dietingforhealth #zerocalorie #stevia #dietingproblems #dietingsucks #doctormommyspeaks #doctorsofinstagram #doctorlifestyle #physicianmom #physicians #wellnesss #wellnessnetwork (at India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CElzQrCFvJI/?igshid=at0a6zcymlq6

Doctormommyspeaks Parenting Podcast Episode #04 ADHD, Anxiety, and other behavioral issues in children. With @dr.qadeera LINK IN BIO . . . It is very easy to brush off behavioural issues in children as tantrums or misbehaviour.  Anxiety is one of the common behavioural problems that is often mislabeled and thus remains undiagnosed.  Most of the time anxiety stems from something. the usual culprits are transitions of any kind, or changes in their routine. . . . For eg. you may notice a difference in your child behaviour from joining a new school or changing homes. It is fairly easy for adults to cope with these things but for kids, it isn't. . . . There may be behavioural changes like bedwetting, irritation, cranky, clingy behaviour, inability to concentrate at school or in studies. . . . If these signs go unnoticed then the repercussions are huge and they are to be borne by both the parens and the child. In this episode we discuss: • Different types of anxieties seen in children • Separation anxiety and how to deal with it • What can anxiety look like in a child? • Is bedwetting/enuresis a sign of anxiety in children? • How to deal with bedwetting that has no organic cause? • What is ADHD? attention deficit hyperactivity disorder? • what are the red flag signs to look for ADHD? In this episode, we have with us dr. Qadeera Baghban who is a Pediatrician from Bangalore. She has discussed some amazing strategies for dealing with Separation anxiety, bedwetting and handling stress in children that are tangible and work wonders in making parenting easier. Listen now. So comment and let me know what you feel about this. ADHD Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. It sounded like a dreaded diagnoses untill after Taree Zameen Par released.  It made ADHD a living room conversation and raised awareness about it, that may be your child isn't acting out, may be he is struggling with his studies.  .  .  .  Another thing worth mentioning is that the diagnoses is now become far more frequent. Not because the cases are rising, but because schools have become aware and in a bid to show themselves as considerate, they have started referring any and every slow performing student for him to be labelled as ADHD.  .  .  .  Another alarming thing about this disorder is its symptoms afe those exhibited by most toddlers-tantrums, short attention span, etc. Hence the diagnosis of ADHD is done by a qualitative and quantitative assessment of the symptoms. Not just the presence of them.  . . . What are your thoughts about this?  I would love to know.  . . . #adhdsupport #adhdparenting #adhdwomen #adhdtips #adhdtribe #challengingbehaviour #developmentaldisorder #doctormomlife #doctorsofinstagram #doctormommyspeaks #physicianmom #physician #doctorlifestyle #pediatricians #pediatricianmom #toddlerproblems #toddlerhealth #childhealth #mentalissues (at India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEbfgP_lYfu/?igshid=1u7k480kd3loh

#7. INCREASE YOUR NIGHT TIME FEEDS. ⚜️Another important hormone involved in the breast feeding process is prolactin, which is responsible for maintaining the supply of breast milk. ⚜️To increase stimulation of prolactin, increase your night time feeds, even if it means waking your baby from his sleep. ⚜️The reason being prolactin is released at its peak at 3 to 5am in the morning. #8. CUMIN SEEDS . ⚜️How to include cumin in your diet to improve breast milk production 1. Mix a teaspoon of sugar and cumin powder and consume it with warm milk every day before going to bed. 2. Roast and grind cumin seeds and add them as a seasoning to your dals, curries or other vegetable preparations. 3. You can also add them to raitas, chaat and buttermilk. 4. you can soak some cumin seeds in a glass of water and drink it early in the morning to improve lactation. #9. FENUGREEK (TRIGONELLA FOENUM-GRAECUM) ⚜️This one has been used since centuries in indian households. It is also available as a tablet but if you can't get your hands on one, then here is a home recipe that works just fine- ⚜️Take a tablespoon of fenugreek seeds, ⚜️soak them in 1 litre of water ⚜️next day consume that water over a period of 24hours. (add sugar if u like) #10. SHATAVARI (ASPARAGUS RACEMOSUS) ⚜️available as a tablet under various labels, ⚜️when taken twice to thrice a day, promotes lactation within 48hrs! ⚜️It is available as a tablet and as powder. ⚜️Powders are to be taken with warm milk for additive effect. . . . . . . . #breastmilkisthebestmilk #worldbreastfeedingmonth #doctorsofinstagram #breastfeedingjourney #breastmilksupply #breastmilkbooster #worldbreastfeedingweek2020 #breastmilkisbest #breastfeedinginpublic #breastfeedingmom #breastfeedwithoutfear #brestfeeding #doctormomlife #doctormommyspeaks #doctormom #bloggerlife #bloggermummy #mumbaibloggers (at India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDo67LbFO0j/?igshid=rodu7o9nkw1l

GALACTOGOGUES These are substances that promote lactation. Here I am going to mention some excellent herbal galactogogues that have helped tonnes of women with their supply and will surely help you too. . . . ☑️Oatmeal- My no. 1 advised item on the list. Most palatable, high in caloric value, natural galactagogue, works wonders, consume one bowl mixed with dry fruits and freshly chopped fruits daily first thing in the morning. . . . ☑️Fennel seeds (foeniculum vulgare)- available as a combination along with other herbal galactogogues, refer recipe of panjiri for its home use in my next post. . . . ☑️Hydration: Breast milk is made up of 90% water. You need to consume a minimum of 3 liters of water every single day to ensure adequate production of milk. Keep a bottle handy. Make it a habit to drink after every feed, that way you can be sure to have consumed the required amount. Needless to say because after each feed your throat will be parched making it the best time to drink water. What has been the best "gharelu nuskha" for increasing breast milk supply in your case? Share and help a mom! #breastmilkisthebestmilk #breastfeedingjourney #breastmilksupply #breastmilkbooster #worldbreastfeedingweek2020 #worldbreastfeedingmonth #breastmilkisbest #breastfeedinginpublic #breastfeedingmom #breastfeedwithoutfear #brestfeeding #doctormomlife #doctormommyspeaks #doctormom #doctorsofinstagram #bloggerlife #bloggermummy #mumbaibloggers (at India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDjwt2GlNj2/?igshid=41ff60frubwq

HOW TO INCREASE YOUR BREASTMILK SUPPLY? Whether you are an anxious new mom or a veteran,  all mommies young and  old have the same problem in the back of their minds. “I have low milk supply”  “my baby isn’t getting enough milk” There are many reasons one might think like this. 📍Breast milk gets digested much faster compared to formula milk. 📍Bottle feeding enables you to measure the amount of formula/breast milk given, while breastfeeding is a blind fold game. 📍Breastfed babies gain weight slowly as compared to formula fed babies. So let’s begin with deciphering whether you actually suffer from low milk supply or its your sleepd eprived mind overthinking. 📍Your baby is content after each feed and falls asleep immediately. 📍Your breasts feel full before and softer after each feed.  📍Your baby has min 6 wet diapers a day. 📍Your baby is gaining approx 6 to 8 oz (170-220 gm) of weight each week (for first 6 months) If you still feel you might have low milk supply and you wish to boost it naturally then tune in to my next few posts for some tangible tips and "gharelu nuskhas" that actually give results overnight. #breastmilkisthebestmilk #breastfeedingjourney #breastmilksupply #breastmilkbooster #worldbreastfeedingweek2020 #worldbreastfeedingmonth #breastmilkisbest #breastfeedinginpublic #breastfeedingmom #breastfeedwithoutfear #brestfeeding #doctormomlife #doctormommyspeaks #doctormom #doctorsofinstagram #bloggerlife #bloggermummy #mumbaibloggers (at India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDgMSnPFUkH/?igshid=6gdrnwenffyt

Parents don't give up. This lockdown has been tough on everyone, Parents, kids alike. These few months have proven to be mentally most taxing. Literally, every single day is a task that we try to accomplish. Our kids testing us in worse possible ways. Every day I feel I am on the verge of a mental break down but then I remember I am a parent and I have Lil humans to care for. It's not a very motivating thought but their smiles are. I remember the old younger days without kids where living carefree was the only way I knew. Now I have learnt to respect my parents more than ever.  They did the same things and did an even better job than us. Didn't complain, didn't have mental break downs, provided the best for us. I wonder How did they do it I wonder is it that they were better at it than us and we are the weaker generation or maybe Parenting in this era is actually a feat in itself. Whichever be the case I have understood one thing That looking back at this time I am going to pat myself on the back and pamper myself for having done it amidst this pandemic.  I think parents are superhumans n moms, rank higher in that hierarchy I sometimes sit and think at bedtime that did I really get through today.  The day that seemed like it wouldn't end! Thankyou COVID 19 for making me realise how great -a job parenting is….
