This list is much shorter than my list of fics written in 2022, but my fics last year were much shorter. Also, this word count is deceptive, because I wrote about 22k of Depth of Reason last year and about 20k of How to Avoid a Scandal last year as well. But! My writing goals this year were to finish these two WIPs and not take on any other projects until they were finished and I very nearly did that! Took on two projects (and more below), but I still finished these before the year finished, so pretty good!

Themes:

Finishing long works apparently! One was for my 2022 COBB and the other for my 2022 CORB. Even though these were started last year, they are the longest things I wrote since my first fic (49k) back in the second half of 2021.

Also, trying new things! Writing sci-if and recording a podfic felt very outside my wheelhouse at the time, but ultimately, I’m glad I went for it.

I met up with fandom friends while on a trip this past summer. Making personalized friendship bracelets as gifts, doing fic readings and crafts, and putting on our own Lady Ruth style tea party were some of my fave moments <3

I did a book club style reread of some of my fave fics with friends. I hope we do a few more in 2024!

It’s safe to say I engaged with this fandom everyday of 2023. I might get quiet on the main Discord server or Tumblr, but I’m certain I read, reblogged, wrote, DMd or otherwise participated in some way, shape or form throughout the entirety of the year.

Goals for 2024:

Read more fic! This fandom has such a wealth of works, my TBR list is a mile long and isn’t organized. I’d like to formally rework my AO3 bookmarks to exclusively show recs and either utilize the Marked for Later function or make a spreadsheet or something to better organize a proper TBR list so i don’t lose track of what I want to read next. Currently, having a dozen tabs open on my phone and another dozen on my iPad doesn’t really work well. If anyone has a brilliant system you’d suggest, please enlighten me!

I also want to read all of my physical canon books this year. I’ve only ever listened to the audiobooks! I’m currently reading my anniversary edition of Fangirl. (I think this is the prettiest book I’ve ever owned.) Up next, the Fangirl Manga, followed by the trilogy and Snow for Christmas.

More fandom meet ups! Already planning for June…

I don’t have any writing plans currently, so we shall see if/what I decide to create. I have a few ideas rolling around in my head, but nothing I’ve felt urged to put down in words. I’m sure I’ll write something, I just don’t know what it’ll be yet.

I'm not sure if you're referring to my travel reclists (which badly need updating, wah) or because you saw my (ill advised and rapidly deleted) reply to the rude anon I got the other day who accused me of only reccing my friends' fics. This whole 'you only rec your friends' stuff is especially funny to me because a lot of the fics I regularly rec are written by people I started chatting to because I specifically DMd them like a fangirl after loving something they wrote. So reccing my friends then becomes sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy, iyswim! 🌟Terrible People by @wolfpants and @getawayfox (E, 53k) I finished this a couple of days ago at ridiculous o'clock in the morning, and it was so worth the lost sleep! Cruise ship antics, very lush and vibrant, with a big travel component, truth or dare and some meddling (but endearing) friends!

🌟LA, Who Am I To Love You? by @epitomereally (E, 43k), an absolute favourite from this year's Wireless featuring impeccable California vibes, magical films, sex magic, and some brilliant OCs (eg. the unforgettable Eldritch Horror librarian).

🌟Rich Friend by @sorrybutblog (E, 19k), wealthy louche non-magic-using musician Dragon (Draco) brings Harry on tour. Banter and feelings and excellent smut ensue!

🌟Our Objective Remains Unchanged by @citrusses (M, chapter 3/9, currently 11k, WIP - but completed bar editing). Non-magical AU where Drarry are rivals competing for the final seat in the Oxford boat for the famous race against Cambridge. Brilliant slow-burn, and the characters feel really close to canon despite the obvious location difference. (and this one is the fic that had me DMing citrusses!)

hello! i dont mean this in an inflammatory way, but on the subject of how darker skinned actors like p'earth shouldnt be pigeonholed into working class roles, do you have any recs for characters who are originally dark skinned and rich (if adapted from a novel) or characters played by dark skinned actors who are rich? im curious if there are any prominent examples that come to mind for you

Honestly I really don't know of any BL story that pointedly makes colorism a part of its narrative but in the case of dark skinned thai actors you have to look no further than our very own Net Siraphop.

Now, I don't follow him as closely as I do Earth so I can't say that his life in DMD is rosy but there are some things I've noticed about his pairing with James that makes me feel less like my head will pop. Because James isn't just fair skinned he's light even by thai celeb standards.

I don't know that any of the characters Net has played are meant to be upper class rich (you know like Mix's characters are lol) but they're almost always of equal social standing to James' characters. I didn't see Bed Friend through to the end but there were allusions made to King being more wealthy or becoming Uea's sugar daddy.

Even in their period drama where James is royalty Net is also playing a noble. In fact, the guy that murders James' character says Net is next, implying that Net is somehow even more politically valuable in the story. Either way, their class difference doesn't seem to be in any way a key aspect to the story or dynamic (versus say Zee and New in The Next Prince where it's all about that master-servant taboo romance)

Thankfully, in the NetJames pairing, they get to play around with the dynamics like bratty bottom/brooding or service top without first pigeonholing Net into some interclass escapist fantasy kjhhfdsfdggj

Also, I know that the crimes of whitewashing Net's skin is constant and relentless but this is where I love having James as a control group adsfdgfhgjkg the magazines that have a modicum of shame do eventually remember that Net and James have a noticeable difference in skin color so if you see them looking the same you know whats happened and how egregiously!

2022 - the year I discovered BL!

(The master post no one needs but everyone gets anyway haha)

1. I fell in love with...the passion!

What you have to know about me is, that I love realness in series. Emotion vise. Like real anger, sadness and passion. I love it when you feel the chemistry. And it hit me like lightning when I saw MileApo play the Kinnporsche. If you know my blog you know that I wasn't interested in Asian TV/Music or anything related to such series. But I couldn't help myself (like many other people haha) bc of the sexiness of them boys (I mean look at them omg) and I fell deeper than I dreamed of.

2. I felt that...in my heart and soul!

It's no secret that I am obsessed with Kinnporsche. I fell in love with Mile at first sight. I love his old soul sm. And you never ever can oversee Apo with his tiny waist and bright aura. I struggled with Vegas at first. But Bibs had me from the moment I saw everything in his eyes. And him with Bui hits different. But now it's like Jeff Satur everywhere. And Barcode grew sm on me that I can't look away when they are together. And just like that all the boys grew on me like...like a family I might never see in person (sobbing) but I love them sm and cherish the moments through my phone. I don't know how you guys feel about this but it's just not explainable how much I could smile, cry and scream for them. My heart is full..

3. I feel like...I am stuck in a love circle!

And in this mood I came here. Tumblr. And the gate of BLs opened wide...haha. I got many recs. Like Cutie Pie, Lita, Unforgotten night, the eclipse, viseversa, between us,...or the slightly older ones like Tharntype, don't say no, 2gether the series... so much happend. It felt and still feels like a love circle (like the devils circle just with love haha). And the obsession grew so far that I couldn't and still can't focus on other series anymore. It's really bad. (..but so f***ing worth it!!)

4. Feeling...the music!

I love music. Show me a good sound and I am obsessed with it. And all the BLs have music! What a nice discovery! I fell for Jeff's voice like Lucifer from heaven. With no turn back. Hide isn't my most listened song of the year for no reason haha. And at all the send offs and tour and collaborations made me feel the Thai Music sm. I can't sing the lyrics well but I try haha. It was an eye opener for a new genre of feels. I especially love the rock versions of songs. The Tharntype theme song is really good also. (Give some recs pls if u know good songs though 😁)

5. ...and we all felt that!

I met @librariesperson here and we both knew that we share the same thoughts immediately. We joke that it's destiny. Kinnporsche did that. It gives us an obsession to share. Like we all are close friends. Like the cast is. And I just wish that we all stay together and be a Fandom they can be proud of. ❤️

6. I will still feel it...in the future!

I just became obsessed in the right time. The filmography and acting got better. The realness and passion on NC scenes are top tier. And it will get even better next year! The trailers of gmmtv, dmd are out and promising...and Boc hasn't even give us some trailers! The expectation is high. I am praying for a Jeffbarcode series. (With an happy ending ok!!!) And BBB will have projects. And MileApo for sure. And all the other ones. I just wanna see them happy. And Jeff will give us some good songs I know it just now...

...oh and @ all the writers of FFs. Thanks for your hard work. I/we see u. We love u. We don't know what we will do without u. Pls write more Kimchay pretty pls 🤞🏻😁🙏🏻

Obligatory mention of this other ask with some of my favs (I should really make a fic rec list at some point), and not specifically a favorite fic, but any number of @kandidandi's AUs are always on my mind

13. Do you listen to music while you write?  If yes, what have you been listening to recently?

Absolutely! All of my AUs have a playlist, so that's what I tend to listen to when I'm writing them. Certain scenes require a vibe that can't be found in the playlist, though, so in that case I'll go looking for a song that fits the mood I'm trying to replicate and put that on repeat. Or, I'll use a remix of a song from the playlist that I know almost fits.

The most recent example of this is the on-the-ledge scene with Moon in DMD, which I wrote while listening to a slowed+reverb version of Run Rabbit Run

I guess I like fic recs for AUs that are more “specialized”? The one about Lucid Dreams, Multiverse, Dimensions AU was a great ask.  As much as I love these tropes: e2l, roommate, college, etc. - I feel that one can find fics/fic recs of these everywhere (and probably my recos will be the same).

I love the werewolf list too because it's a favorite au of mine. Made me realize I’ve actually read 100+ Jungkook werewolf fics through the years (added 50 of these in the recs). 

I'm just...really thankful that the authors made these stories available in the first place. 🥰. Made me lay off twitter too (which could be toxic at times for my fangirling heart) 😁.

I know you're currently preoccupied with CR Campaign 2, but once you're finished with it, may I recommend The Unexpectables? It's DMd by MontyGlu, the sister of Takahata101 of Team Four Star fame. Also Takahata is one of the players, together with Chris Zito (DM of TFS at the Table), GaijinGoombah and Connor McKinley, also famous for some abridged serieses. Oh and they get Professional VA Edward Bosco on regularly midway through! It's actually very dang good!

I am definitely occupied! And uh, I have to be painfully honest - none of those names mean anything to me, because I live under a rock, but I’m sure they’re all great people. 

Unfortunately, the nature of my obsessions is such that I can only really focus and devote my emotional attention to one to three series at a time, so I have to pick stuff up carefully. I get recommended a lot of podcasts and real-play ttrpg series, which I’m sure are all great, but I can’t promise anything, so all I can do is say thank you for the recs and do my best to look into them eventually!
