I'm a little late to the party but I finally managed to put the photos of Mirabel together that @sewtuft so kindly took for me :3 head over to her instagram to see the entire journey sewtuft took with creating this incredible doll. The dress and accessories are just beyond amazing and so detailed! I'm still super honered she let me do her face 💜

I ended up readjusting her hairstyle as well as it got a bit wild on the journey here. I hope I did justice to what @beautifuldisneydolls originally had in mind for her.

Because there's no Princess Aurora, without Briar Rose! 🌹

She was another kind of challenge, but a challenge nonetheless 👀 This time I wanted to stray from the usual sweet expression, and went more with a "bratty" one 😁

Problem is, when trying to achieve it, it's so easy to actually step into "evil smile" territory 🤣

This repaint was actually my second attempt, after the first one I decided to take a day or two to really study her mold, and finally get what wasn't working...In the end, I went the hard way, and partially resculpted her face, while afraid to ruin a LE head, I knew I wouldn't have been satisfied otherwise, go big or go home basically 😅

For the dress, I've mostly kept the original concept in mind, with the same colors I remember from the VHS (the palette of the outfit on the restored version is too gray for my taste, give me the cream, the turtle dove, the beige, the maroon!!), saving the tiny spinning wheel embroidery on the corset...it seems like this doll has been one big experiment from start to finish 👀

In the end, I love how she turned out, and most of all I'm glad I didn't give up on the expression, I really hate to take the easy way, I know it would have frustrated me too much to leave untouched 😵‍💫

Better make that kind of decision at the start of the process than at the end 🫠

Asha & Starboy

Since it’s February and Valentine Day is coming, I give you: The Cutest Couple that Never Was!

I know I said in a previous post that Wish (2023) disappointed me, BUT-

The concept had so much potential; the King and Queen being both evil, Asha having powers from the start and of course, STARBOY! I just love that concept of a playful magical being that could also potentially be a cute love interest to Asha, but they can’t be together because he must go back to the sky at the end or something (literal star-crossed lovers). So since Disney didn’t deliver, I did it myself.

Details below:

I sculpted their faces with Fimo and for the bodies, I used a snapstar doll body for Asha and a cheap modified BJD doll for Starboy (he was too tall, so I had to saw the legs shorter and give him monster high hands), I also slightly modified Asha’s design and dress (I wanted it more flowy), and while I did took inspiration from the concept arts for Starboy, I decided to design my own outfit for him, something that resemble more a shiny jester outfit, given he was supposed to be a joyous character (we were robbed, seriously).

fun fact: those wish balls are actually painted bouncing balls.

Adding a lining to the cloak really finished it up nicely and I feel it really ties everything together. The lining also gives it extra weight, making it look extra cosy.

I'm having a bit of a struggle. I want one more layer of color built up on this doll's face, but I dunno. Is it just me, or is she feeling a little dead inside? I dunno if I just need eye shines to add that spark of life, or if she needs more than that. What do you think?

That said, the dress did not go as planned, but I actually like this better than my concept art. Because it covers the legs, I don't have to make shoes, she can still stand on her own if I balance her right, it feels more regal and celebratory, and when I hold her up for photos, my hand is sufficiently covered. And all it took was cutting up a skirt and stitching/gluing it in the right spot!

After several long months, Bruno is finally finished and joining my miniature family of Madrigals!

His head is a hasbro Chief Benja with a resculpted nose, and that I have rooted hair to, his body is a mattel BTS doll with the lower arms of a Disney Store Moana. I made all the clothes myself, and did the faceup and here we are.

I've been in a slump and sick as Hell, but somehow I found the focus and energy to make a doll! I really liked the expression and proportions on this Limited Edition Edna Mode head (that I found on AliExpress lol), and it took me a while to complete her because I wanted to use make her into a really dynamic-looking character. Initially I wanted her to be like a old 20s-style classic beauty, hence the gold eyeshadow, but somehow she became glamour punk... and I'm more than okay with that, honestly. I love her attitude, I love how she looks on the 2019 Mattel Bo Peep body, and I hope whoever buys her loves her too.

No progress picture collage for this one because I was making this while crafting with my cousins. I can, however, give you some detail shots of her shaved head:

Here's the second 17" Thumbelina, Beetle ball edition! Her dress was an adventure, so many pieces, so many directions, so many pins poking my fingers 😵‍💫 In the end though, I think she's my favourite of the bunch, she's massive, colorful and so so pretty, I'm obsessed ✨
