Some screenshots (of poor quality because 90s television) of the first wonderful Dief, Frankie. He was such a great actor and cutie pie, and the one Dief I could believe would be half wolf <3
The majority of photos I have saved in my due South inspiration and reference pic folder are pics of huskies and other fluffy white canines that might pass for Diefenbaker, often in funny/sweet/cuddly poses with their humans. Finally made use of one of them! That wolf is a snuggle muffin (though he wouldn't admit it to Fraser) and he deserves more cuddles (thankfully, RayK is more than happy to provide them).
I made this picture for @eaion, a fellow due South fan and a gif-maker extraordinaire in several fandoms. Your gifs and your enthusiasm for the show and dS fanworks are very much appreciated! And just now you helped me break out of my year-long creative block - thank you kindly! <3 It's a very quick little piece, but I hope it gives you some warm fuzzies!
To celebrate Due South’s Thirtieth anniversary and 11th of March I made a Dief Amigurumi. I made his face with a fabric pen. I also included some of my favorite Dief screencaps.
I grew up in Canada, and my earliest memories of Due South are of watching it on the family TV with my mother. I was too young to understand the humour or most of the plot. I didn't know where Chicago was. But even then I knew the show was something special. Where else on TV could you see a man in a scarlet tunic running around the big city?
More than a decade later, I rewatched the entire series. Somehow, those episodes I watched over my mother's shoulder were burned into my memory. When I saw the sweat lodge in Fraser's apartment (Season 2, Episode 6), I realized "I've seen this episode before!" I wondered when Fraser was going to pull out the semaphore skills I remembered from my childhood (Season 2, Episode 17). And of course I remembered Diefenbaker.
I don't have much experience with fandom, especially online, or writing fan fiction. I mostly write original fantasy fiction. But when I realized that this year was the thirtieth anniversary of Due South, I wanted to join the fun with @ds30below. I'm excited to see the fandom's enthusiasm and creativity.
Summary: Diefenbaker is a half-deaf half-wolf with a plan. Somebody should probably warn Fraser.
This is one of my favorite fics. I love Dief's voice in this fic. Learn to Speak Canine in Seven Easy Steps is part of a series.
Summary: Fraser, being Fraser, has managed to get himself kidnapped by stage magicians. Ray, being Ray, has to rescue him. Diefenbaker and Fraser Senior, being, respectively; a wolf and a ghost, help. For varying definitions of 'help'.
I would also take a dip into the rest of their work on AO3.
Snow Dief with a... snownut? A very untasty snownut, because he hasn't eaten it yet?
This is possibly the last snow we'll see here before next winter, so I seized the day. :D
PS. I love the less obvious types of fanart we've seen in @ds30below so far: avocado seed turtles, an amigurumi Dief and now a snow one, embroidered fanart... A challenge here for you artists and non-artists alike: make dS fanart out of some random stuff at hand! Re-enact scenes with stuffed animals? Write favorite lines with Smarties? Something completely different?
