Is purugly a good pet?

Puruglies would indeed make good pets… for the right kind of owner. You see, I had to give this one a lower score than the A-equivalent “Just a Cat” score that many feline-like pokémon recieve for a few reasons, one of which being their size.

Whereas this species’ pre-evolution glameow is a very manageable housecat-like size, puruglies weigh in at a much sturdier 96 pounds! That is significantly heavier than any breeds of real-world cats, which brings with it a whole different suite of issues. For one, a nearly 100 pound pokémon would need a lot more food than smaller animals or pokémon, which may make caring for a purugly much more expensive than many owners would expect. That extra size allows puruglies to throw their weight around more successfully. While this species is by no means an alpha predator, they’re fairly likely to get violent with you if you don’t give them what they want.

Puruglies, to put it simply, just aren’t very nice. Described in the pokédex as “brazen brutes” (Diamond), puruglies like to take what they want and to be seen as intimidating and powerful (or “large and in charge”, you might say) by those around them. In the wild, puruglies are known to take over other pokémons’ nests through brute force, making themselves seem more intimidating with its large size and ceaseless, angry glare (Pearl, Platinum). Interestingly, puruglies have been observed making themselves seem larger to smaller pokémon by cinching their waist using their tails (Pearl)! Due to their selfish, dominating personalities, puruglies have been called “difficult to tame” since over a century ago (Legends: Arceus). That being said, we have a far better understanding of pokémon behavior and training today. It’s completely possible that, so long as you provide them with the comfort they want and sufficient space, a purugly would be a perfectly manageable pet. Just don’t be surprised when they tend to hog the couch!

As normal-type pokémon, puruglies thankfully don’t pose too large a treat to humans. In combat, they mostly use physical moves that make use of their claws and weight to bash enemies into submission. Despite their large size for a cat-like pokémon, puruglies’ claws aren’t too much to be concerned about. That, combined with their having such a small bite, I’d guess that these pokémon are less dangerous than a large real-world dog. The only move I’d really bring up as a concern is Hypnosis, which allows them to use their intimidating stare to put you to sleep. This could be pretty dangerous in certain circumstance, and incredibly inconvenient in many.

All this being said, puruglies are certainly manageable if you know what you’re getting into. If you’re looking for a more sweet and snuggly cat-like pokémon, however, I might look elsewhere. As a final note (which I didn’t know quite where to put in the post), puruglies’ fur is very pretty. Researchers in the past claimed that their fur was even more appealing than velveteen (Legends: Arceus).

BANDIT

submitter's sweet baby boy. He passed away recently, and submitter misses him dearly. He was the softest cat they'd ever pet, and that's not just them being biased. His fur was silk. He was the friendliest cat too, and when he heard new voices he was always up to come meet people. He also enjoyed being around people, and you could always find him in a room with the family. He enjoyed terrorizing the family dog whenevr he got riled up (dont worry, she enojoyed it too), and he loved to bother submitter's parents when they started working from home. Any call submitter had with their folks, he would always make a background appearance, yelling quite loudly. He also had some of the loudest snoring theyve ever heard, and they're so lucky to have a small audio recording of him sleeping. Submitter had him since they were 8, and he was nearly 17 years old when he passed away. Submitter tries to sleep with a crook in their knee so if he's ever lonely, he can come cuddle.

She's a adorable, a total diva down to the way she walks. Loves tummy rubs if she knows you, if she doesn't she'll probably just run and hide. She makes a little chirping noise and submitter loves it. She also loves running full speed around the house. Pumpkin doesn't really eat people food, not a big fan. She will however steal the bacon off your plate and lick the butter off of any food item.

She's my very first pet, one I was convinced I was never going to get (I have loved cats my entire life but we've been a no pet household until her)

When we adopted her, she was the only cat who actively tried to get my attention via hoping on the cage and meowing. Which when you're dealing mental health problems and feel as though you're unwanted is just the best fucking feeling in the world.

Her original name was Harriet. I wanted to keep it or at least change it to a different human name because I thought it was funny but my grandma told me no.

Maybe it's just the dog trainer in me, but you know what I really want from a minecraft update?

Dogs.

Not just tamed wolves, domesticated dogs.

We already got cats, now let's do dogs! And I know how it should work too.

Stray dogs spawn in villages, just like cats, and they're tamed with bones... but also when you breed two wolves there's a small chance you'll get a dog instead of a wolf, cus, domestication.

There's would be different breeds of dogs, and each have a different appearance, stats, and function. They would also have a occupation block, kinda like villagers do, (maybe it's literally a dog house, wouldnt that be so cute?) and would stay within a certain distance from that block.

They would have 3 modes.

Sit / Stay (dog would stay put until told to do otherwise.)

Follow (dog follows player.)

Work (different for each breed, defined below.)

1. Great Pyrenees

The Great Pyrenees is a livestock guardian dog, often used by farmers to protect livestock such as sheep.

Work Mode: The dog would stay within a certain distance from it's occupation block, and kill any foxes, ocelots, or wolves to enter that area.

It's in-game function would be to protect your livestock, like sheep or chickens, from predators.

You just put down an occupation block in your sheep pen, and the dog would freely roam that pen, guarding your livestock from wolves.

Because the Great Pyrenees' purpose is killing wolves and foxes, it would have slightly more health.

2. Border Collie

The Border Collie is most commonly used to move livestock. Now you might think this would make it obsolete in Minecraft, since we have leads and livestock will follow you while holding the appropriate food... but I've noticed that when moving livestock, I always seem to have a few stragglers that I have to go back to collect. (Also I have a soft spot for Border Collies and I just want them to be included.)

Work Mode: Herd the strangers towards you so you don't lose any, and you don't have to make several trips.

The Border Collie would have a much faster movement speed, but lower health since it's purpose is not combat oriented.

3. German Shepherd

Commonly used as protection dogs, this is your hostile mob fighting dog. It's in-game function is pretty simple, it does everything your tamed wolf does.

Work Mode: Stays within a certain distance of the occupation block, and kills any hostile mobs to enter the area.

Put this good boy outside your front door, and no more zombies will come knocking.

He would have higher health due to his combat focused purpose.

4. Bloodhound

Here's your sniffer dog.

Work Mode: Lead the player to specific items.

Show this dog an item, and if there's more within a certain distance (let's say 50 blocks in each direction?) it will lead you to it.

This one feels a bit over powered though, so we're gonna nerf him a little.

There's a small chance the Bloodhound will get confused and lead you to a similar item instead of what you showed him. The more valuable the item, the higher that chance becomes.

If there is a storage block (chest, barrel, hopper, dispenser, etc) or player with that item nearby, the Bloodhound will lead you to that.

The 50 block limit also applies vertically. He can smell 50 blocks up and down, so if you ask him to find diamonds, there could be diamonds 51 blocks down that he would not be able to find.

Also, here is a list of other things I would like included in this dog update...

Dog armor. Similar to horse armor, and could be found in all the same places as horse armor such as villages, or dungeons.

Cute behaviors like chasing their own tail, the little head tilt that wolves do, and sleeping on the bed like cats do.

Mixed breeds / mutts. Similar to horses, who are a mixture of their parents genes. If you mate two dogs of different breeds, the offspring should be a combination of the two. For example, a Bloodhound / Border Collie mix could have the model of the Bloodhound, the coloring of a Border Collie, and the stats/functionality of the Border Collie, etc. It's randomized.

While the Bloodhound is in Work Mode, his nose should be on the ground, cus it's cute.

Different colored collars would be cool

An item called a dog whistle, if you blow it all your dogs within a certain distance will change to follow mode and come to the player.

Different dog breeds should have different sounding barks, and wolves should howl, not bark.

Stray dogs should chase stray cats in villages.

I am VERY open to more suggestions. Thoughts?

play style: somehow actually understands redstone and uses it to make secret bases. likes to make puzzle maps and force his friends to play them. good with command blocks. refuses to go to the nether unless he rly has to bc he has a habit of falling in lava lol. makes lots of automatic farms and xp farms and what not. tends to set up a base and then not travel very far bc he can and will get lost if he goes too far away (especially because he hides his bases). if he needs something he'll just pay Ralph in diamonds to get it for him.

Welcome to Funky Friday! This Friday is particularly special to me, you see, I get to talk about a creature I am very passionate about, if you know me outside of this blog, it should come to no surprise that Aphids are up there as one of my favorite earthlings ever! They’re part of my username, and hence, my internet persona, I even put little antennae on emoticons like this ==:) I’m obsessed! But I swear it’s all justified!

To protect the peace of those who may be afraid of bugs, I’ll be talking exclusively about Aphids in Videogames! They haven’t had the biggest presence, but in recent years they’ve made some lovely appearances!

Aphids. Just look at them! They’re very green, very round, and very small! They have very long antennae as well! Instantly checking off all the marks that make a perfect creature design!

Aphids are sap sucking insects, they just hang around in colonies sipping sap from plants, a very peaceful life, they’re incredibly good at just hanging out and slurping plant juice! So much so that they are sadly considered as pests by humans, but they’re just trying to get by! Like you and me, the way they’re vilified everywhere is really unfortunate, they deserve to live just like any other earthling, but whenever you google em you just get stuff on how to get rid of them, I believe their presence in art like movies and videogames can be very important to change this perception!

Debut: Bee Swarm Simulator (Roblox)

Let’s start with the face of the post, Roblox aphid! Look at this simple model! Just a pea with 2 red orbs for peepers and sticks for antennae, I love the charm of such a simplified bug!

Bee Swarm Simulator is a lovely little farm game that has you collect nectar and breed all kinds of bees! While out in the flower fields, you may find an aphid while collecting nectar. Like all bugs in this game, they will attack you, but to be fair, you are very tiny, so it makes sense a giant bug could damage you, even if they don’t do anything particularly dangerous!

When your bees defeat them they can drop rare items! And as such, aphid encounters are quite a blessing, matter of fact, they have rarity tiers! And they change their appearance accordingly, there’s Rage Aphids

and Diamond Aphids!

Overall very charming inclusion, aphids now come in new flavors! Every time I play this game I hope I get to encounter one of these sweet peas! Silly models of bugs are fantastic, so Roblox aphids make me very happy!

Now THIS is my personal favorite fictional aphid appearance in media ever! In the world of Bug Fables, they are livestock! And you even get to go to an aphid farm! Here, they keep regular Aphids for their honeydew, Cochineals for their red pigment, and Woolly Aphids for their wool! That’s right! This game gave us representation for TWO kinds of real life aphids! It’s such a delight!

Everyone in the world of Bug Fables respects and loves aphids, people find them very cute! Some of them even keep them as casual pets! Could you imagine? A cat-sized aphid for you to hold? The people in Bug Fables are living my dream and I want in! I hope you can also agree they’re extremely cute, the artists nailed that sweet little drop-shaped face I adore so much!

On April Fools, the Bug Fables devs released a short game all about aphids! Aphid Festival! Here you can train and breed your aphids! Which allows you to get all kinds of different color patterns for your aphids! Can you believe this? If you told me “In the year of 2021 there’s a videogame that’s completely centered around aphids.” I would’ve never believed you!

Debut: Jax and Daxter

Now I know what you may be thinking, “this is just a dog!” And yeah they’re definitely the doggiest bug I have ever seen, or is it the buggiest dog? Regardless of how you feel on the validity of their buggyness, you gotta admit it’s very impressive we have an aphid-based enemy in a game from 2001, most other aphid appearances I could find were very recent, was Jax and Daxter a trendsetter? Probably not, but maybe at least one kid out there saw Aphid Lurker and went “Woah aphid? What’s that?” googled them, and proceeded to fall in love with them!

Regardless of their good impact for all of aphid-kind, they are very round, very green, and have antennae! So I really can’t dislike them, they even got spikes!! Which is something I like to see in my round creature designs sometimes, it just works!

Debut: Grounded

Returning to modern games, Grounded is a survival game that has you shrunk down to the size of an ant! So you gotta survive among the towering grass blades in the middle of a garden! Fortunately for us, this means you get to interact with tiny insects very up close! Including aphids!

Don’t be fooled by the fancy graphics and realistic aesthetics, aphids in Grounded are arguably the cartooniest creatures you can find! They almost look like a real aphid, but they have a vertebrate mouth! Perfect for opening in surprise when you get close to one, they’ll jump, chirp with an extremely cartoonish expression, and then flop into the ground, before scuttling away!

Now that’s a silly little mouth!

Aphids in this game are peaceful creatures, they’re a bit timid so they’ll run away from you but they will let you get close over time, they also drop honeydew, which you can use as food, so you really want to befriend and protect these little dudes if you can!

Debut: Scribblenauts

Scribblenauts is a game where you can type anything and it’ll come to life! So the devs really tried their best at including everything they thought a player could think of, and they thought of silly bug fans like me! People who would type “aphid” in hopes an unloved little bug they love could appear in the game with them, and instead of being met with the usual disappointment, were met with a cute little rendition of this sweet green bug!

Design-wise, I’m a bit sad they added a neck, they have no necks! They’re funny teardrop shaped bullets! But they DID add the cornicles! (The two little horns on their butt). Out of all the videogame aphids I’ve shown you, this is the ONLY one to include the cornicles! Not even Grounded who went with a semi realistic design got it! So thank you Scribblenauts, for considering the aphid, as well as giving them their anatomically correct defense organs.

Finally, I’d like to give a shoutout to Aphie from A Bug’s Life! Not a videogame aphid, but 100% one of the earliest aphid representations in media! And they’re very cute, just a little puppy! They got a puppy tongue and all, given ants herd and take care of aphids, having one of them keep one as a pet is a very cute way to humanize an ant! Also Aphie has the cornicles!! Good on you Pixar, you did your research.

I open my eyes.

Were we so tired last night? We both fell asleep in each other’s arms, which was nice, but we just fell out. I didn’t think we were that tired but this was the first time we’d really relaxed in some time. There was nothing scheduled in the near future. There were no deadlines. The relief must have taken us down.

My ears hear food cooking and I inhale deeply. I smell steak….steak and eggs! With…uh…biscuits..and coffee? YES!

“Babe?” I call out to her, a question in my voice.

“Hey, hon, it’s ready!”

I roll out of bed and am greeted by Kal, who is being his puppy version of adorable.

“Alright, ol’ boy, you’ll get scraps,” I whisper down to him as he weighs my feet down. He pops up like a daisy and I head to the dining area just as she is coming out of the kitchen. “She’s corrupted you.”

“What?” she asks with a raise of an eyebrow. “Who’s corrupted who?”

“Ah, nothing,” I shrug, seeing breakfast.

“Oh, because I thought you might be talking about how Luna gets smoked salmon for no reason,” she teases. “she’s definitely corrupted you, babe.”

“Wow, love, this is…great,” I smile down at it as she brings juice, coffee and water. “Where’s yours?”

“I’ll get it.”

“I’ll wait.”

Her eyes widen and she goes and gets her plate as well…after cooking her eggs. I was not going to sit and eat without her after she cooked everything. This was something I was going to keep in mind always. She wasn’t a waitress or cook, she was my…going to be…someday would be…had to be…

“Henry?”

“Huh?”

“You alright?”

“Yeah,” I said quickly. “yeah, just…” She sits down next to me, frowning and watching me. “waiting on you, babe.” I look down. “Hold it!”

“What?”

“That is not what is on my plate.”

“Uh, yeah.”

“I want some of that!”

“Oh, you just want it because—”

“You have it? You bet!”

She rolls her eyes, shaking her head and nodding. “Okay, then but you need to share.”

“Deal.”

After we shared our breakfasts, we packed backpacks and drove to Balmoral Estate. As soon as we got out of the truck, she gasped.

“Oh, my God,” she whispers. “is that a—”

“Pyramid?” I finish. “Yes.” I got out of the car and pulled our bags.

“We’re going to hike here?” she asks, eyes wide.

“This is Balmoral Castle—” I pointed off in the distance. “and Estate. There are cairns, pyramid like monuments, all over the property, but Queen Victoria had a pyramid build memory of her husband Prince Albert over a hundred and fifty years ago. Come on.”

I was a bit surprised to find people on the trail, but it is an outdoor activity. We saw many people on the way, and as usual, selfies here and there. The good thing is that the estate is so big, we really can’t be located. It was a bit of a hike, and we shared snacks of cheese and fruit and water on the way, but we made it.

“This is so…wow.”

“Queen Victoria loved her husband Prince Albert very much, and he became ill,” I told her. “He said as long as his family was well cared for, he could die the next day, but Victoria said if he died, it would kill her, and so he fought the illness to the end. She had this built and grieved for decades after.”

“She loved him like that, so much?” she whispers.

“Yes, he was a part of her, she couldn’t bear the idea of his leaving, even in something as unavoidable as death.” I swallowed hard, looking at her. Who would lightsaber duel with me? Who goes and does ‘her thing’ when I play Warcraft? When would I have ever found out what a blasted Dagwood is? “He died in his forties, relatively young. We saw some of their cairns, or memorials, on the way here.”

“I thought cairns were dogs.”

I chuckled at that. “The breed was known for chasing small quarry between the cairns, they were small and mobile enough to manuver.” I put my arm around her. “Cairn terriers.”

“Oh.”

We walk back to the car together, and we are tiring. Times like these I wish we could go to a restaurant, but I wasn’t ready to risk it.

We managed to get back to the car with minimum fuss and drove back to the cabin.

We decided on pizza. I took care of the crust and she got the ingredients and sauce together. Thin crust meant less time, so I that’s what we did. We ate the first pizza pretty quickly, but the second was a literal pie or stuffed pizza, taking a bit longer so we took Kal and Luna out.

Night fell quickly and the Northern Lights were out for their show.

“God, people live here,” she breathes, her eyes wide. “people wake up and go to sleep to this.”

“Yeah,” I said softly, hugging her from behind. “Nice retirement, hmm?”

She smiles at the sky and turns in my arms. “Maybe.”

“We’ll raise cairns,” I said teasingly.

“Okay, you can practice Warcraft and be a professional gamer.”

“Who says I’m not that good now?”

“Are you?”

“Okay, okay, a little more practice,” I laugh and turn her so she could look at the sky again, rocking her side to side as if we were dancing. She laughs with me. “but the acting thing, I kinda like it.”

She belly laughs at that, leaning back against me. “Gee, ya think?” She sighs, “I would write my whole life if I could.”

“I get that feeling,” I look at her and kiss her temple, my arms around her, her hands in mine. I watch her lift her ring hand and move it, making the diamond glitter and sparkle under the night sky lights. “Wondering about the ring, are you?”

“A little,” she giggles a bit nervously, looking down at it. “Is it really that old?”

“Yes,” I reply. “Many years ago one of my ancestors was a merchant. He loved someone very much, and she was afraid he would not come home to her, especially since she was a commoner. He had this ring made to let her know that she was his North Star, and no matter where he sailed or ventured, she would always be his way home.” I was nervous. I reach into my pocket, and pull out my family crest, no bigger than the size of a small button. I took her hand, and opened the locket ring. “This fits in here.” I put it in gingerly. “If there is ever any doubt of who loves and protect you, you only need open it.” I close it back turn her to me. She looks up at me as I hold her hand in mine, seemingly speechless.

“Thank you,” she breathes.

“Every knight usually has a lady,” I joke softly, still holding her hand with mine and tilting her chin up with the other. I bend down and brush my lips over hers. “Right?” She nods yes, and I pull her to me for a deeper kiss. She melted against me and we both sighed, tasting each slowly, no rush, the world was moving slower for the moment and so could we.

Suddenly her watch went off.

“Pizza?”

“Yeah,” she exhales. We walk back inside, and the house is filled with the aroma. Even Kal and Luna are sniffing around the kitchen door. I follow her in, and she pulls out a huge pizza pie.

“That’s for today and tomorrow, isn’t it?” I asked with a small laugh.

“Definitely, but we can have salad to go with it,” she says, carefully placing it on the counter. “Needs to cool.”

“Okay—” I pick her up and carry her to the bed. She wraps her arms around my neck and curls closer. I lay her down and crawl between her legs, kissing her as I make my way up. Just as my hips align, and my lips meet hers, she curls her limbs around me and reverses our positions.

“Pinned ya,” she whispers.

I chuckle at that and try to sit up, but she grabs my hands and puts them over my head.

“Pinned ya again,” she rubs my nose with hers.
