The first thing uses a snippet from the It's Nice That article where they interviewed the main three of the cast of DHMIS in 2016! I couldn't get the idea out of my head so I had to sketch out my interpretation of the image I had in my head! This is the result:

Leave me alone I’m cringe

Erm so this is patches, my dhmis oc. The episode starts of with the three friends going up into the attic because they are searching for something… like a keepsake album. Doi opens up a box of all his belongings he used to cherish as a baby, and pulls out his baby blanket, patches, who comes to life and sings about memories and how to remember.

It starts off sweet and melancholy, like remembering Doi’s first day of school, his first time trying his favorite food, riding a roller coaster. Then it slowly becomes dark (like the other episodes ofc) first tooth he lost, bruising his knee after riding a bike, punishments from his father…

Until Patches makes them relive other traumatic experiences that they lock him away in the attic once again.

Patches is very soft spoken and kind, often treating the three like children, speaking to them softly, yet sternly when needed. They didn’t mean to cause them any harm.

First Impression: my literal reaction was heheh love this guy and his monotone sarcastic comments, also #slay tbh tbh , like honestly loved him for the start tbh. He is so so so cool

Impression Now: oh oh this guy is rlly fucked up, but like rlly!! Rewatching the eps makes me realize like little details about him and it helps me piece his character more. I love analyzing red guy, he’s just so interesting. RLLY liked ep 2 and ep 5 ? Because I think it rlly showed A LOT about red guy, idk he’s just a cool dude and I have many thoughts about him

Favorite moment: There’s a lot of good moments tbh, but like the “BYE!!!” Part and ummm also the “IM WORKING ON IT”, idk he’s rly funny I love like every scene he’s in

Idea for a story: um probably like more about red guy and yellow guy’s dynamic (big brother/parental figure to the little guy) idk I just rlly like their little moments together I love found family

Unpopular opinion: ummmm I don’t think I have any unpopular opinions tbh I think

Favorite relationship: for romantic, definitely duck and red, that scene is ep 6 was undeniably gay, they were divorced and married at the same time. But but also rlly like red yellow’s sibling like relationship, or just red, yellow and duck’s family relationship in general , I love found family who hate each other but deep down do care for each other. (Just a big fan of found family in general)

Favorite hc: Funny enough I don’t think I have any like specific hc’s besides like the super popular ones and stuff, but um it’d kinda silly and basic but I think Red guy has a massive sweet tooth and yellow likes to try silly hairstyles with red guy’s hair yarn (or whatever it’s called lol)

-10.02.2020- Yorkshire Sculpture Park & Wakefield Hepworth Gallery

Introduction

This week we visited two galleries as a group. The first gallery we visited was the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the second was the Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield. We were all able to freely walk around the exhibitions in order to experience the gallery at our own pace. I found his to be an appropriate way of approaching the gallery visit as we had a limited amount of time to spend at each exhibit. Furthermore because both galleries were big in size it would have been awkward for everyone to see every piece in one group especially since there were other members of the public walking around the exhibit.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park

The first gallery we visited was the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. When walking around the gallery I decided to look for some rocks. When I went to the bathroom I saw another student who found some rocks and pebbles with intriguing colours// blue tones. As a result of this me and Emily went and looked for some around the park and we found a range of sizes and colours. As a result of this I had the idea of using some to make jewelry and possibly a wooden ring with a rock gem” or a necklace. As mothers day was soon I saw a small rock that was in the shape of a tooth. It had a reflective yellow stone trough the middle with a white marble like rock on the outside. I then polished and shaped the stone and added jagged sections to the corners so I could thread cotton around it to attach it to the necklace. Overall, even though this wasn't part of the exhibition itself I found this trip to be useful for a range of reasons even if it was just to collect some stones.

Furthermore, I developed on previous ideas of having clay roses around a painting of my girlfriend with segments of the rocks inside the roses. I feel this would help develop my idea more as I had the idea to paint a natural picture of my girlfriend and then progressively add layers of her face rotting and turning into a skull. This is because I want to make my work more gorey. Whenever I think of my girlfriend it always makes me happy and I’d never want anything to happen to her. So it would then make it a more gorey and personal piece to me seeing her face break down and fade away. This would additionally be gorey to other people seeing someones face decay and break down visually. This is why if I added rocks and stones to the roses it would add to the visual affect of juxtaposition by adding jagged shiny rocks to roses.

When me and Emily were looking around the exhibition we came across a room mythological creatures and children's books. I found a children mythological book which combined two different halves of creatures together. I found this book to be genuinely interesting and helped me generate ideas for creatures of my own. When I was on the coach to the other gallery I used the images I took to create some sketches. We then visited the gift shop which had a wide range of books I found to be intriguing. I decide to take pictures of them so I could get them at a later date. One book I found to be relevant to my art practice was a book on wood whittling which I will try and buy in the future to help me develop my wood working skills in a range of ways as I only ever care wood with sand paper, dremels and grinders so I find it interesting to try out wood whittling.

Overall

Overall, I found the trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park to be very beneficial to my art practice and I would love to visit the gallery again.

Wakefield Hepworth Gallery

After we visited the Sculpture Park we then visited the Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield. When walking around the gallery I came across another series of children's books which I found to be funny in both galleries. One of the books I read with Emily was called “ Can you keep a straight face?” which we both found to be incredibly funny. I made a joke with the book saying what if it just took a dark turn half way through and to both our surprise the last page was someones face coming apart when you pull the tabs. This then inspired me to develop my own idea of making a children's origami book that progressively gets darker and more horrific. This could be based off personal experiences such as eating disorders, depression, anxiety and how it feels being transgender. I could further take inspirations from DHMIS and Too Many Cooks as they both have themes in which they start of innocent an then over tie devolve into a much darker tone and theme.

After looking around the gallery we both decided to visit the gift shop. I found a matchbox with different things and tasks to do each day. From seeing this I felt inspired to make one of my own as I feel this would help me with my mental health and I additionally find it to be a fun idea to explore. I think this would help me with my mental health especially as it would make me do a range of different and new things each day and since they wouldn't be in an order they would be randomized and would further add an aspect of fun and spontaneity to it. This would make each day feel a little more exiting and fun to look forward to. I would love to develop this idea further in the future and see how I would make it. or example so I wouldn't know any of the tasks to do I would ask a range of people in my house to write down different things to do so they would all be completely randomized and i wouldn't know what they were.

Overall

Overall, I found the trip to the Hepworth gallery to be similar to the trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in which I found the pieces in the gallery interesting but it was in fact the things that weren't directly linked to the exhibition that I found to be the most interesting and inspiring to me such as the pebbles on the floor and the children's books. I am looking forward to any future exhibition visits to explore how I would see other galleries in the future similar to how I experienced these ones.
