And so at last we have come to the end, and our final farewell. Zelos expected to at least have company on his trip home, but both Gaius and Peony are moving on to the Grand Finale, so he'll have to find someone else to irritate.

With Zelos' parting, we have at least reached our grand finale, of Gaius vs Peony vs Eizen!

The Road So Far

First, we have Gaius, King of Auj Oule, a major antagonist in Tales of Xillia but a party member in its sequel. He's powerful, he's determined, he doesn't know how to use a cell phone because he's such a dork help.

Gaius started out strong with a decisive victory against Duke, followed by taking the crown among antagonists in our Tales Villain Hot or Not? poll. 14% of respondents nominated him as the Sexiest Tales Villain! But perhaps those early victories made him overconfident, because he was very nearly sent home in the second gauntlet during a tough competition with Vicious, and scraped through with only 10 votes more than his competitor. Luckily or him, Gaius achieved a solid victory against Dohalim to earn his spot in the semifinal. Then, when facing off against his rival monarch, they had a tie!

Gaius may be the sexiest villain, but how will he fare against these two characters who weren't eligible for the villain poll?

Eizen is the only contestant left who's not royal. He's a sexy pirate, an earth malakh who spends all his time at sea, and an absolute badass who's also a huge dork about it (I'm sensing a theme here).

Eizen was a strong competitor right out of the gate, with nearly 80% of the vote in his first match-up against Dezel. In his next match, he went up against Jade, a fandom favourite for years. Although Jade's name was occasionally put forward as a possible winner of the whole tournament, Eizen came out on top in order to face Vholran. As a character from the newest game, Vholran was a bit of a wildcard, smashing up the status quo of the long established line-up of sexy characters.

But wearing eyeliner isn't enough when Eizen is also rocking that look, and Eizen made it to the semifinals. Eizen continually faced hard matches, as Zelos is both beloved and from a hugely popular game. But even Zelos' charms weren't enough, and the Reaper smashed his way into the grand finale. He's faced many difficult opponents before... but can he beat two at once this time?

And then there's Peony, the only character left who is never playable. Peony is not a party member, and he's not even a boss! Peony was an underdog from the start of this bracket, with only 7 write-in votes to secure his spot (the fewest of any write-in contestant).

Peony entered the tourney with the fewest pictures to choose from, and relied on his charm as a level headed man who loves his pets and will treat you right.

Peony had an early win with his defeat of Yuan, one of the more popular write-in contestants, and perhaps it was momentum from this victory that propelled him through the most riveting match-up yet: Yuri Lowell. Yuri, a man so popular that Bamco had to ban him from polls because people couldn't stop voting for him. Nobody expected Peony to win that match, but he turned the competition upside down with a firm victory that left the community reeling.

After that, there was no slowing down this underdog. He faced against his own countryman, Guy, another hugely popular character and once again came out on top. In a bonus poll, Peony was voted as the hottest among his childhood friends, Jade and Dist. When this dark horse of an NPC faced off against Sexiest Tales Villain Gaius, it looked like it might finally be the end of the road, only for him to pull out an unexpected tie.

Every Peony victory has been a little bit surprising. Will his momentum carry through, or can a charming smile and a cute rappig to pose with only get him so far?

The year finally comes to an and and I have a question for you. 2022 was the year of new OCs, so: How many new OCs did you create in 2022? Bonus points if you introduce each of them with a lil' picture and 2-3 sentences about what their deal is. Let's have a "Babes created in 2022" party!

Ive been not so active here on tumblr, I do apologize for it! So.. yeah... 2022! I guess this is my 'furry OC outbreak' year xD I had furry OCs before that, but... I never really got into them. I couldnt grasp them as playable characters like I'm used with human OCs. But this year was when I created some babes that, oh boy, I have fun playing with! But it's not nearly as big of a count as you might think. So let's dive right into it.

1- Becks Warborn (Art by kaitoharo99)

Becks is the leader of a mercinary pack of werewolves. He basically got created to give one of @Zelendur 's OCs - Wulf - a new boyfriend. And as Wulf is just a premium horse who can't quite tie himself down, there was this whole pack of members forming. First and foremost there are Aadit and Liyan - two mercinary members by Zelendur, who got their mingling hands on Wulf as well. This leads to Becks having to not only make sure that Wulf is HIS boyfriend that only gets to have fun with others when he allows it - but it only leads to Becks having to put the other wolves in their place if they decide to dismiss his set up rules. Its a polyamorous relationship between Wulf and Becks mostly, but Aadit and Liyan cannot be ignored at all!

Plus, through to Becks background story, I also created...

2- Dyle Warborn

Dyle is Becks older brother who did not manage to get the alpha leader title himself. In fact, when a huge brawl broke out over the new leadership after their father died, Dyle lost an eye and with it his will to lead the pack. He went from one of the strongest member to the 'crippled old dog' that had trouble keeping up with the rest. He hated being treated differently, but he just couldn't perform as well in battle anymore. He has no design yet, nor have I really fleshed him out yet. But he already got a bretty girlfriend, so... eue

3- Tucker Bust

Tucker is probably the first furry OC I really clicked with. A charming playboy who is a bit on the dumb side. He is just a very good boy. He is the kindof casanova who knows how to click with anyone he meets, and therefore he can have very different sides on him. But in general he is just a really big puppy who is looking for his one and only love. After many failed relationships, he finally found the right guy who love him the way he is. Cooper, his angel, is Tuckers biggest obsession and he loves him endlessly. And Tucker definitely does some weird things to be liked by his boyfriend <3

4- Chris Rowland (Art by @zelendur )

Chris is my first and only (female to male) trans character. Chris is, honestly, one of my most beloved furry OCs of all time. He struck everything in me even before he had a set design. His and his boyfriends love story is honestly so cute and stupid, I love it. Bradley and Chris have been my obsession for quite a while, and those two still tick a lot of boxes for me. My precious baby <3 He is a pure fighter who has been fighting for his and his friends all his life. In the end he opens his own tattoo and piercing shop, living his own life, but always close to his boyfriend Bradley and his bestie for life, Gary.

5- Dezel

(His design is not set at all and definitely will be revamped a bit for the final version)

Dezel, or also known as Dessie, has been such a happy accident, haha. Zelendur and I figured that Gary needed himself a boyfriend too eventually. At first we were in love with Gary and Tucker in an alternative universe (cause oh BOY they fit together so well too!). But since Tucker is absolutely loyal to his angel Cooper, we needed someone else. And that's how Dezel got created. Dezel is a nerd first of all - an indie developer who used to go to the same school with Chris and Gary. He had been a friend of theirs for years - with a mayor crush on Gary. But he is too shy to really communicate his interest. No matter how much he tried to show it, everyone assumed he was just being a friend. Dates got ruined by others or Gary who didn't realize that it was a true date, and Dezel never got his point across. And from that somewhat secret admiration rose obsession. He uses the anonymity of the internet to flirt with his crush. And since Gary has himself an onlyfans.... yeah. Through some event Gary figures out who his generous online-admirerer is and is oddly charmed by his childhood friend. Aaand thats how they give it a try. No feelings first for Gary, but the good-natured nerd soon can finally show his worth to him <3

6- Willow Bishop

(His design is also not set, it was just his first scribble)

After I created Chris, Zelendur was oddly charmed with the thought of another trans OC. And therefore Nicholas the demiboy happened~ I had to SNATCH the bnuy before anyone else could, cause boy I love that little guy so much <3 And here is Willow - a physics student who met Nick through their interest for journalism and especially ghost hunting. They immediately clicked and became somewhat like best friends within no time at all. He was always super charmed by the small bunny, but Will is not gay and therefore was not interested in his best bro. But when he found out that, technically, Nick was a girl who wanted to be a guy, but... still had a girl body.... Oh boy, that shook something loose in him. That game-changing fact immediately made Will show interest in the small bunny who was so perfect in any way - and now that it was also a girl body, he was totally head over heels for him. And to his luck Nicholas was just as interested as him. And then they hit it off instantly yet again. I love those two chaos-seeking idiots a lot xD Hunting for ghosts and then both being scaredy cats when things get real. Aah I love em xD

7- Nathan Evans

My latest obsession, Nathaniel, short Nathan or Nathe! Nathan got created for this hot stud, Clint. I love bad boys, and I love tragic love stories with difficult personalities. Clint and Nathan are somewhat the 'Karanos and Donovan' of our furry roleplay, and yet they are so different and unique and I love them. They both started as best friends in a small gang of youngsters, doing little crimes to come by. Clint with neglective parents and a younger brother to take care of, and Nathan as the only child of pretty poor parents. Then Nathan had to move away with his parents pretty suddenly and a fight with Clint stopped him from saying goodbye - until he regretted it later and tried to reach his best friend with letters. Unbeknown to him Clint had gone to jail after the gang had taken it too far, and so Nathan never heard of his friend again. Until 10 years later, after a lot of shit happened in Nathans life as well, he moves back into town and meets his friend again. They have a rough and chummy friendship with both caring for the other in their own way. But after some unexpected steamy moments between the two (as Clint showed himself clearly interested in Nathans body), Nathan realizes that it's more than friendship for him. But with their relationship also come problems. Once they move together, they start seeing each others weakspots and bad habits. Anger issues, alcoholism and drugs make things escalate a lot - but both of them will reach their happy end together as they fight to stay together.

And.. yeah! That's it folks! 'Just' 7 OCs, which is, for ME, a veery high count. I have at least one more character planned, but nothing concrete yet. And Dezel and Will need proper refs, not to mention for aaaall the toyhouse pages that need to be created... ugh...

ILLEGIBLE’S TOTALLY SUBJECTIVE FAVORITE EORZEA COLLECTION DESIGNS: MALE

I’ve mentioned in the past, the main thing that made me start playing FFXIV properly was seeing people’s character designs. I’m still honestly blown away by the creativity and range of approaches people bring to this game, so I’ve decided to be an absolute madwoman and break my favorites into subcategories to share with anyone curious.

And to be clear. I’m not going to do something so broad as “oh top ten in-general :3″ because that would be sensible. No, I’m going to do it for all the current combat jobs. And all the current races. And different genders within the races and combat jobs as things stand. And I’m going to make a model-focus subcategory. And there are gonna be LOTS. Because I seriously cannot understate how inspired I’ve been by this community, and after however many years I just feel the need to vomit some incredible visuals I’ve encountered at you guys lol.

NOTE: In an abundance of caution, I want to stress this list isn’t a value judgment on anyone but a fragment of things that blew me personally away. Looking at the DRK sections it will be immediately clear that I Illegible really like that edgy dark knight aesthetic lmao, but there are plenty of non-edgy dark knights that I also love to bits. Other people might not like edgy dark knights. Due to a combination of size and search constraints plus trying to keep gear somewhat varied, these glamours are just what wound up on this particular list of mine. I could make another list one day. Other people can make lists too that are totally different.

So here’s the tentative planned party lists for Tales of the Eclipse. Complete with my inane reasoning. I try to go with the most relevant characters when possible, although sometimes it’s not 100% possible when every character below the main two has almost equal billing, or I have to go down a bit to fill the quota and I need to get characters I feel would work best with the plot I have...

Phantasia...Cless/Mint/Chester/Arche/Klarth The OG 5! Really...that’s the main reason! Suzu and Rondoline were added in later revisions, so I went with the characters in the plot from the start. Besides, you’ve got the two main pairings and the Summoner. We will need a few Summoners (who will probably get their Summons in-story by having some sort of item that any Summoners in the party can use...either having a few basics usable by all and you equip a ring that lets you use a major spirit for a Mystic Arte, or just allow any Summoner to call on whatever rings in your possession).

Destiny...Stahn/Rutee/Leon/Philia/Woodrow Swordian Masters! Who else would be the most important characters in the story? Besides...I have a few skit ideas (crossover or otherwise) for the first three, while the last two tend to get skipped.

Eternia...Reid/Farah/Meredy/Keele/Ras The Main 4 need to be in there! While Ras is more there to be involved in the group of royals. As I could think of less ideas for plot with Chat and Max (even if they’d be funnier). Though if I could think of ideas, the fifth slot might change. Prolly just stick with this, though.

Destiny 2...Kyle/Reala/Loni/Nanaly/Harold Mostly to avoid trying to figure out what to do with Judas and Leon in the same place. The first three are already here via a time traveling accident while the last two are gonna be represented by alternate present-day versions ala the first Radiant Mythology. And since the story isn’t going to be the same as original Destiny, Leon wouldn’t end up in a situation that would lead to him becoming Judas.

Symphonia...Lloyd/Colette/Genis/Zelos/Sheena Yeah, one of the more debatable as I go back and forth as whether or not I want to trade someone out for Raine. However, we have the Iselia Trio represented and Zelos can act as one of the nobles there for the conference with Sheena as his unfortunate bodyguard (as she can handle his shit). Besides...Zelos can get into a lot of trouble with his flirtatious ways and the many strong girls in the party!

Rebirth...Veigue/Eugene/Mao/Annie/Hilda Hilda’s mostly there because she tends to get shafted so at least she can be in this. Hell, she can converse with Genis and Arche about the trials of being a halfbreed. While we can’t leave Cat Dad and his two adoptive children out!

Legendia...Senel/Shirley/Will/Chloe/Norma Yeah, the first characters that would be in your party. As poor Moses tends to be comedy relief outside his Character Quest, Grune would be the same without her in-game story, and I don’t think I could use an info broker like Jay. Plus, Will can join Keele as the Only Sane Men in the research facility, Norma can get into treasure hunting antics with Rutee, and Chloe can converse with the other Knights or the other Swordswomen.

Abyss...Luke/Tear/Natalia/Jade/Guy Luke and Natalia act as nobles going to the conference, while Tear and Guy are acting as bodyguards for them (Guy due to his connection to Luke, Tear just hired). And we can’t miss out on Jade and his epic trolling! Also...going with Short Haired Luke because I’d go crazy trying to do Long Haired Luke!

Innocence...Ruca/Ilia/Spada/Ange/Hermana The first three are a power trio so they have to be together. As for the other two...I just liked them the best! I wanted to again avoid the new characters since I don’t want to figure out dimension hopping (we already have to get time traveling to work with the Destiny 2 cast).

Vesperia...Yuri/Estelle/Rita/Judith/Raven Really wanted to put in Repede, but eh...as I’m working with a RM style class system the series’ only animal character wouldn’t really fit into anything. Plus, I really wanted to include all the girls (as I really love them all). While Raven is mostly there because of the ohmygod mess that would be him and Zelos teaming up and getting blasted by a few of the easily irritated members of the female cast!

Hearts...Shing/Kohaku/Hisui/Beryl/Chal Yeah, Chalcedony is only in the Remake. But unlike the other Remake characters, he travels with your party even in the Original! And he could represent his beloved Paraiba-sama in the delegation! Plus I want to see him and Leon interacting since I swear he’s an expy of the little brat! While the first three are almost a trio at this point (with all the comedy that comes with it). Beryl also plays off all three of them well so yeah...

Graces...Asbel/Sophie/Cheria/Hubert/Pascal The first three are a trio and ohgod after their scenario in Rays is full of amazing family fluff! Pascal’s there because I want to see her and Harold explode shit. And Hubert plays well off her, as well as his brother.

Xillia 1+2...The six Xillia 1 characters/Ludger/Gaius/Muzet/Julius Because there aren’t enough new characters in Xillia 2. Still get 10 characters for two games. Julius is here because A) he tends to get invited to these side games alongside his brother and B) like with Leon and Judas, I’d rather not give myself a headache dealing with trying to reconcile two Millas!

Zestiria...Sorey/Mikleo/Rose/Dezel/Alisha I figured I’d limit the Seraphim just to not have to go with trying to play with how they’re being seen (some characters are magically sensitive enough that I could buy them seeing them, but not the entire cast). So the three humans, and the two Seraphim connected to two of those humans! There! This was easy enough to deal with! Even if I like Edna and Lailah better than some of the characters I did add in! Alisha also works well for the delegation while I can see Rose (as she’s a noble assassin) getting involved due to the intense danger the situation involves.

Berseria...Velvet/Laphicet/Rokuro/Eleanor/Magilou In a similar vein, let’s just go with all the humans and one Malakhim connected to one of those humans! Err...I’ll think of how I want Velvet and Rokuro to have been daemonized at a later point!

I do debate adding in Escort Title mainstays with Emil and Marta to represent DotNW and Caius and Rubia to represent Tempest. Or the Link Main 5 (Lippy wouldn’t cause problems like Repede due to being a spellcaster). And maybe some Rays characters once it ends in Japan and people translate enough for me to do shit (though I can take early game Ix and Mileena if not)!

Pointless Zestiria X post (you can skip it) Talk about sormik, other canons and silly dreams

You know I had dream tonight about last episode of anime. It's coming close so idea of going through sea of salt once more (after almost month of curing my wounded soul) started to stress out my brain once more. Not mention reading yesterday post about salty comment about possible Sorali ending.

I don't think that it's a case. It would be like Namco shooting themselves into heads. They already posted article in „Romance” newspaper in japan featuring Sorey and Mikleo. They probably see that posts saying about sormik on unfotable tweeter have more like 600+ favs when normal Zestiria X and Alisha things have like 50-/+. They wouldn't bring the wave of hate on themselves if they are sane.

Yet, I'm not looking forward to read about last episode of anime.

So, back to my dream. I dream story for last episode of anime where Ufotable made Heldalf disappear in first seconds of episode like Smaug dies in first 10 minutes of 3rd Hobbit. So after that Sorey is possessed by new bad guy jumping from nowhere. Team fights him and after beating Sorey to the ground team doesn't know how to return Sorey back to normal. Then Mikleo leaned down to kiss him. Camera doesn't show it clearly but you know Mikleo is kissing Sorey (as to not cross line to showing their lips together in anime, airing in japan since they aren't open to things like that).

Sorey is returned to normal. There is skip after all that to inn room where Sorey and Mikleo is talking about last battle and what to do next. Mikleo is still shaken by last battle and fact someone possessed Sorey. They sitting around 15 centimeters away from each other but Sorey rises his arm above Mikleo's shoulder and says sorry for worrying him and giving him his support ( whole anime didn't do even single scene like this, when Sorey is grateful for Mikleo's feelings, like he was in game and seeing this made me really happy in my dream). Anyway Mikleo is moved and he falls with his head on Sorey's lap and cries.

There is where my dream ended and I was sad that it wasn't real. It was damn stupid, it was cliche, it was cheesy, it was silly for Mikleo to act like this. And yet I can feel that real last episode of anime is going to be worst than this. Worst than silly dream just like rest of episodes were.

I'm not saying that Sorey and Mikleo romance was perfect in game. If you watch scenes and skits clearly you can see how much they take care of each other. We have famous Sauna skit. But they aren't labeled as romance and that's Sormik main problem. Namco made them always stood beside each other but always with some space between them. Many scenes just scream that this is the right moment for them to hold hands or just put hand on other's shoulder. I'm not talking about kissing, none tales story had it, but since one putting of Mikleo's hand on Sorey's shoulder we didn't get anything like this later. I read somewhere that while making game they have „toned down” their relationship, yet I don’t know if that's true/real. I didn't saw note talking about it myself. The other question if it's real is what they „toned down”? Did Sorey and Mikleo hugged? Did they held hands on some point? We will never know.

We have words of „One and only” but that all we got and it would never let some people stop screaming that Sormik isn't canon. We have „unfinished” confession from Mikleo. Because I think it's main problem that made anime look like this. That made sormik fandom die faster than you can say Xenosaga.

There is no clear announcement that Sormik was suppose to be canon. Not in game. Not in anime. The words of „one and only” aren't enough for some people. No amount of explain behind Alisha leaving party, Mikleo being Sorey's one and only, that Sorey and any girl would work out going to change people minds.

I don't think fans who support Sormik need any more prof of them being canon. It would be nice but not necessary. We want it so others could stop hurt Mikleo, so both Sorey and Mikleo could be happy and other characters could be themselves.

When I thought about romances in tales games, and yes I played them for 10 years right now, many romances weren't greatly done. But since it's boyxgirl it's easier to find simple looking in eyes with affection, grab hands or supporting each other as romance affection.

Sormik as it is now it's hard to clearly label as romantic for everyone. Some may think it more or less or just simply brothers relationship.

Let's look at other Tales games. At beginning I want to say that I support those couples too just like Sormik.

I think most unclear romance is YurixEstelle. After watching gameplay I asked myself question, was that love? Or simply friendship? Really, compare to those two Sormik is already romance. Someone can say but Yuri tried save Estelle so many times! They had alone talk with each other before final battle.

Sorey and Mikleo had moments alike this a lot with other ones and I don't think Yuri even once said Estelle looks sexy after sauna. If YurixEstelle are canon then Sormik too in Tales of games style.

LloydxCollete was nice done, we clearly see Lloyd care for Collette and it's not only because she's his childhood friend. Symphonia anime, also made by Ufotable was heaven compare to Zestiria. It followed main plot, didn't change characters personalities and the most important thing, it cherished LloydxCollette canon. So don't get me wrong over hating Zestiria X. I wanted simply repeat from Symphonia, to see Zestiria story/moments as anime and I got something that trashed plot and characters.

Xillia, as much as it's clear that canon pair is JudexMilla they doesn't touch or kiss to feel that they are canon. They only hold hands at the end before... they simply parting ways. I remember loving those two, Jude's love for Milla was so sweet and ending broke me. I never played Xillia 2 because I was afraid it would ruin my beloved canon. Did someone said that Milla didn't start to romantically care for Jude, or Jude for Milla? No. Even the reality when he was human (ehem Sorey) and she spirit (ehem Mikleo) didn't make canon less possible. Milla may over live Jude, but that's another story.

From all clearly romance canon couples from Tales games I can say are: ShingxKohaku (he clearly says in game at least twice that he loves Kohaku), KylexReala (this whole game goes around their romance and later when Reala's going to disappear Kyle don't want for that to happen. They hug a lot too.

Tales of games have a lot cuples that comes from childhood friends: ReidxFarah, VeiguexClaire, LloydxCollette, AsbelxCheria, SenelxShirley (if in the end they are canon... Well, their relationship is complicated too, first Senel loves Shirley's sister, but she died, then some people ship him hard with Chloe (ehem... she tried to kill him)) and SoreyxMikleo are just as another one of those couples.

So, to end this post, anime isn't going to help Sormik matter, it made it only worse. I don't think we ever get side story in any crossover game that would say „Sormik are romantic canon.” There is no way, even other canon couples rarely get their relationship on romance level in those games (usually they are at beginning level when they just know each other for some time example: LukexTear, LloydxCollette are mostly childhood friends usualy). We won't be able to hear anything beyond „Sorey wants to spend rest of his life with his CHILDHOOD friend Mikleo” (Asteria's radio audition) or Sorey knew Mikleo's true name but oh well they are boys, it doesn't mean Mikleo told it as romantic confession (Berseria, Berseria guide that says it's different when boy telling another boy his true name). Even Zelos joking about Sorey and Mikleo being on date (Asteria) isn’t going to help everyone view Sormik as canon or let tell sormik supporters that we have nothing to worry about and just enjoy canonical Sormik.

First episodes of anime gave hope about Sormik being something even more big than in game, but it was quickly destroyed. It was treated even worse from episode to episode. What comes from Ufotable sketch of Sorey and Mikleo sleeping on eachother shoulder, close and happy if it wasn’t in anime?

As for myself I'm sad about anime waste as whole Zestiria, not only Sormik. I don't care how Zestiria X looks like, I don't need to watch it. But each time I think that we never going to get because of Zestiria X a GOOD adaptation of game like Abyss or Symphonia had (gosh, even eternia was better, at least characters wasn't so ooc even if it plot was awful, graphic too, but it was in the end only filler to main story. No one tried to change main plot). Chances for reboot of anime is 0%. That's it. We never see tickle fight, fake marriage scene, Sorey losing his resonance, Rose hitting him, Dezel death (no, no kamikaze kill without real reason), fight with Tiamat, night at Lastonbell, EVERYONE seeing Sorey and Mikleo's past, the ending of story... The only nice scene from game we got was Sorey holding his breath to let Alisha communicate with Lailah. That's all.

I love Zestiria OVA. It has perfect pacing and it was close as possible to game. I just simply wish we got something like this instead of Zestiria X.

Hmm it’ kinda like harry potter fans who read the books dislike the movies or Shadowhunters’ with the book vs tvdrama. lol

You know why Alisha’s now part of the main cast? Because people kept bitching about her not being in the game much. And of course she’s gg to be shown armatized because they can’t show her in the game since she wasn’t part of the cast ! And characters acting OOC? Well could be because they didn’t expand on their characteristics in the game ( like people again had complained ) thus they’re showing it in the anime what could’ve been. And Dezel, I’m sure it will happen at a later point. Frankly, I had hope at Alisha wouldn’t be involve much like in the game but oh well. And now that Sorey ‘could’ purify a dragon, I’m just hoping that Eizen could be saved. I’ve grown to love him to much after playing Tales of Berseria. But I doubt it’s going to work. :/ And Berseria is linked to Zestiria, in plot. As much as I know since I’m still halfway into the game.

Anyway, now people complain about the inconsistencies of the anime. Why can’t we just enjoy the anime as it is? Because there are people who haven’t played the game and just watch the anime. If you hate it so much, DON’T WATCH! There are others, who played the game, including me, do like the anime even if it’s weird and off at certain points. Until this anime is over, I won’t complain every single time the episode airs. I hope it will reach till the end of the series ( at what you know will happen ) but I doubt it’ll survive since people bitch at everything. Haiz… Well that’s my opinion. Please don’t think of this post as I’m attacking you.

I’m not attacking the anime because it’s different. I am aware that some people may like the version of the story better, but it’s one thing to make an adaptation of a story and another to completely turn it around to the point when the characters are unrecognisable.

(The rest under the cut because it got pretty long.)

Alisha’s character arc in the game made it clear that Alisha could not armatize because she had no need to. She wasn’t destined to fight alongside with Sorey - she had her own goals: protecting her country and stopping the war - that she put first and foremost. Having Alisha follow Sorey to the final battle and let her armatize, endangering her life, contradicts to her values.

I do not believe that characters are OOC because there was “not enough development” in the game. There was. We have Sorey who had to learn to accept mercy killing; we have Mikleo who practised artes at night to get better and not be a liability; we have Edna who had to accept that her brother could not be saved; we have Alisha who had to learn that sometimes politics is not black and white. It has all happened in the game. And the anime had enough time to at least hint at some development, but, no - most of the screen time was wasted on showing us how much Alisha is loved by everyone and Sorey purifying dragons. Which, again, contradicts with what these characters represent.

I understand why people would want to see more Alisha. But the story in ToZX is just badly executed - they could have shown us Alisha being an independent knight and working against the corrupted government, which would actually be an expansion of the story.

Eizen, on the other hand, was not meant to be saved. He bears a curse that would eventually turn him into a dragon - so, even if Sorey did purify him, Eizen would just turn back into being a dragon. Besides, Eizens death is meant to be impactful. It is unjust and horrible to let him die, but that’s the point! By that, we see that some people cannot be saved. No matter how much Sorey tries. And we have to accept it. Removing that part of the story is just... not right. It removes all of the pain and suffering of Zestiria’s world, making Sorey basically omnipotent and removing all of the potential develompent.

Yes, Berseria is linked to Zestiria. The games are set in the same universe. Done, that’s what we know from playing just Zestiria, and that’s what’s relevant for Zestiria’s story. Berseria is completely different from Zestiria and tells different story - putting this two together in Zestiria adaptation seems like just a bad marketing method, because it does not make any sense to link them like that. Velvet has completely different values than Sorey; and Sorey does not need to know about Velvet, because his story is not relevant to hers in any way.

And, no - I cannot enjoy the anime as it is. I am simply unable to. I loved Zestiria for the characters and plot, and that was completely changed in ToZX without giving any explanation other than “it’s Zestiria but without the parts that made it Zestiria.” Basically - they stripped the characters out of their motivations, values and struggles.

I am not “bitching” about anything. I am not “hating” the anime. I am merely criticising, pointing out the things that do not make sense plot-wise or just show-wise. ToZX is far, far away from being a good show, and not even as an adaptation, but as an anime overall. I am watching it out of a curiosity, and because I like criticising it like any other media I consume. But, yes, I am disappointed in this show because I expected to see something I loved and got a parody of that instead. So I will keep watching and criticising, because as a viewer, I am allowed to do that.

A couple more ToZX ep 21 issues...

In my last post I mentioned I had a couple other issues I meant to cover, so let’s get right to it. However, be warned that a lot of this is me dumping out salt specifically as a Dezel fan with important canon references to Rose and Zaveid. There will be game spoilers in this post and it’s going to get long. Also, nothing here will be shipping related.

On the whole, ToZX has been lenient about letting characters live who died in the game. Mason, Mayvin, Maltran, Dezel... They’re all still alive at this point. Though, really, with the way the story and the histories/roles of these characters shifted, none of them have a real reason to die now, either.

The one I still worry about, however, is Dezel, and that’s even though his revenge plotline was basically given over to Rose and the whole thing has been resolved. His death in the game, after all, was the only way he could save Rose from a bad situation that he got her into via his stubborn quest for vengeance. He died because he screwed up, but also because he cared about her more than he cared about himself and (I believe) because the Shepherd needed his Squire more than he needed a self-proclaimed “crummy seraph” like Dezel. Part of the emotional impact also came from the fact that it wasn’t Symonne who was responsible for the fall of the Windriders and Lafarga’s passing, but because Dezel was an angel of death who’d accidentally brought misfortune upon his beloved family of mercenaries via his backwards blessing. Essentially, Dezel had wasted much of the last five years of his life, obsessing over his grudge against Symonne and using Rose, and in the end he felt like the only good, worthwhile thing he ever did was to die for Rose’s sake. ( Of course, by Rose’s own account, she didn’t feel this was necessarily true.)

All these things have been taken away from the ToZX version of Dezel, save for the fact that he has still been using Rose as a vessel to keep himself anchored against Malevolence (with some influence over her career choices possible, but with no apparent actual possession with full control of her actions). At the same time, the series has now felt it necessary to have him suggest that the Squires attempt armatization when, for some reason in this version of canon, it’s far too dangerous even for someone like Rose, who possesses a naturally high level of resonance. (Something I’ve been feeling pretty salty over because I can’t help but think this was done to make sure the Squires are on par with one another.) My concern now is that forced armatization, whether because it’s done out of desperation in a dire moment or because he’s being impatient and violent, is how Dezel will die.

If Dezel perishes attempting to armatize with Rose (or just perishes, period, for any reason at all), there will very little emotional impact to this, partially because this series has done fuck all to really build a solid dynamic between the two. Certainly, Dezel is interested in keeping Rose safe and, yes, she has turned to him when in need of answers to questions about some subjects. Yet for as great as it was for Dezel to flat out admit how long he’d been around when asked, there was never anything to follow that up with. And one would think that, at some point, Rose would have a lot of questions about when Dezel first showed up, why he was there, etc. and so forth. Hell, the other characters know more than Rose does on these matters; she was never present when a couple of brief conversations took place about Dezel’s personal history. (Of course, this is also how it was in the game, but specifically due to the fact that Dezel asked the others not to spill the beans. In the anime, there’s absolutely no reason at all for the truth to be kept hidden and thus this is yet another opportunity the series hasn’t capitalized on.)

Dezel’s interactions with the others have also been limited, hardly enough to really create an emotional impact. Part of my problem with ToZX involves the lack of endearing character interactions/moments and overall charm the game delivers, and not having Dezel involved with activities like teaching Mikleo to windstep or discussing birds with Lailah or agreeing to help Sorey learn to use pendulums has left his character as just this stand-offish guy with a penchant for lashing out when pissed off or when Rose or the weak are threatened. (Hell, it hasn’t even been revealed at all that he’s blind. Or is he even blind at all in this version? It’s an important aspect of the character and we can’t even be sure at this point that it’s even a thing, anymore.) Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be mad as hell if he dies before this trainwreck of a series is over, emotional investment or no, because at this point why do it all? JUST LET THE POOR BASTARD LIVE. At the same time, lack of reasons for it won’t be my only source of salt because they won’t have even bothered to make it count emotionally.

Secondly, this business with Zaveid...

In the lazily done montage of character interactions in the second half of episode 21, we see Edna, Zaveid and Dezel sitting up on some old ruins remains together. Zaveid and Dezel are drinking, and Zaveid puts an arm around Dezel’s shoulders. There’s no dialog between them and all we get after is Sorey wondering if they’re old friends.

No, ToZX, you do not get to do this.

Honestly, this entire set of scenes was poorly done on the whole because so much of it was unearned and rushed as hell (not mention lazy due to just being the closing of season one), but I’m especially mad over Dezel and Zaveid because 1) they should have history with one another that could’ve been explained at some point and wasn’t (yay more wasted series potential) and 2) for anyone who’s seen the ToZ DLC skits, this bit with them is honestly a whole lot of nothing.

For anyone who gives a damn about having Dezel and Zaveid together with the others at the same time, the DLC skits were helpful in providing that. Granted, they’ll never be quite enough to even begin to cover all that could be done, but at least they feature the wind seraphim holding actual conversations with each other and the rest of the crew. Meanwhile, ToZX has yet to even have them talk to one another or even engage in group discussions at the same time (and no, I’m not counting that word game skit that served as the next episode preview).

I do want to think that at some point in the remaining few episodes, we’ll get something specifically Dezel and Zaveid related. A conversation meaningful specifically to them, a moment of back-to-back fighting where they take on some hellions together and it’s clear that they’ve done this before or that Dezel’s learned Zaveid’s fighting style well. Something with some actual substance. At the same time, my faith in ToZX is so down the tubes right now that I’m not sure we will. This series has long since taken to wasting time with a lot of things that don’t really matter, that don’t develop most of the characters and their relationships in a satisfying way or even advance the plot in an efficient manner. It’s damned disappointing and a source of frustration for me as a ToZ fan.

But I don’t know. I guess we’ll see, as part of this could be salt for nothing. I’m just not holding my breath in the meantime.
