Do you plan? Or do you "wing it"?

both??? ive explained my frankly STUPID plot outlining methods before but basically what i do is before i even write one word of a story, i'll outline the ENTIRE plot chapter by chapter and then i will stick to that plot outline like glue. ofc when you havent even started a story, you tend to have a bad handle on it, so my plot outlines tend to be quite vague in order to allow breathing room for that, so it lends itself to winging it for the most part but planning out the Big Plot Points in advance

Have you ever stopped yourself from writing something? Why?

i had to think about this one and i genuinely think the answer is no? like i cannot express enough to you guys not only how small a fraction of my writing you actually see but also how long ive been writing and how it's only since taob that writing has been anything other than a totally isolated, self-indulgent hobby of mine. it was literally for me and no one else (to the point it was a little toxic; i said the other day about the shame i still have in regards to writing) which means i had no reason NOT to write anything i wanted. id literally be like 'this is the dumbest most embarrassing idea ive ever had' but id write it anyway bc literally WHY NOT and i still stick to that

#and i really fucking recommend it like around the middle of taob i got really in my head about who exactly i was writing for #bc i realised i was considering making HUGE writing decisions based on what i thought the readers would want #despite taob starting as a very self-indulgent story i wrote FOR MYSELF #bc i didnt even have an ao3 account before that like that's how much i write anything i want i woke up one day #partway through reading salvage and went 'this fucks i want to try my hand at something like this' #NO consideration of it being fanfiction when i didnt write fic at the time NO consideration of the difficulties of writing a fic of a fic #like taob was never supposed to leave my word document and the only reason it did bc i posted it on a complete whim #so when i felt myself starting to care more about the readers' opinions than the story it really worried me #it's one of the reasons i axed the update schedule #now idgaf lmao im secure enough in myself and the little community we have here that im back to writing purely bc i love it #ask #ask game
