Watched the RWBY x Justice League crossover with my wife and ngl it wasn’t bad! At least for the RWBY fans. I can see this being not the best for JL fans
But the RWBY content we got from the characters was honestly really nice to see! It felt like a sorta breath of fresh air after V8 and V9 destroyed me psychologically and physically
Basically it’s a good movie if u wanna see somethin stupid. U really gotta just let things happen as they happen, and accept whatever’s goin on as fact. A lot of nodding along n just rollin with the insanity.
I will say the best part for me? The fight scenes oh they were ALL bangers, loved each and every one of em.

Hello!
I just wanted to say that I really love your writing, and was hoping to send you a request. If you’re not interested feel free to ignore.
I saw you were open to writing for underrated slashers, so I was wondering if you could write something for Dominic from The dare. I just watched it and I’m so obsessed with him. There’s literally no writing for him, he’s so underrated.
In terms of the writing, I just want something fluffy. Like being childhood friends, getting separated, and then meeting again as adults. I’m being vague just in case you decide to watch the movie. I don’t want to spoil anything. I trust your amazing writing skills. ❤️
Again, feel free to ignore if you’re not interested. Thank you 💕
Thank you!! That's v nice of you😊😊 also thanks for movie recommendation!!! It was great tbh! The killer looked like brahms but gym rat😭😍 im obsessed!!
Sfw, they/them, mensions of trauma but on movie level so nothing new!
Dominic (from The Dare) Headcanons!!
While I was watching the movie I thought "man this is gonna be hard to write" but when I saw that u mention 'childhood friends' prompt and OMG ANON YOU ARE GENIUS
Childhood friend with this guy.. What worse could happen?
Imagine this: s/o and Dominic are bffs and one day Dominic sadly gets bullied but what can s/o do about that really? There's 4bullies and only two of them ://. I can imagine s/o ending up looking for him afterwards, and even lutteraly forcing police department not to close that case
He prolly kidnaped them due to silly goofy mood. Nah but for real he kinda hoped that they still like him?? (He mensions in movie that he wish he had family and kids just like main character did) and also he hopes s/o is as sadistic as him and will revenge bullies with him
S/o has to have huge 'I can fix him' vibe if they somehow stay with him
Also this guy never had a gf or even a kiss soooo yeah he will get flustered if s/o grabs his hand or call him some nick names. If s/o says something along the lines "Love you honey" He will just stand there sweatin bcs he has no clue what to do??? Should he say thank you?? Should he smile??? "Uhh😰😰 you too?"
Hes very pretty but hear me out. Masks stays on
After opening up and making sure s/o doenst skedaddle when left alone for more than second he turns into such simp, like "Domi its cold can you bring me a blanket :(" "yes honey, what color? What texture? I hope you dont mind wool .. i mean if you do i have few other blaknets but not as warm I- i mean i can go make you one?? O-or..." this guy🙄
He gets way to flustered! Things between them needs to go slow or his heart will explode. Lets stay with lil smooches and handholding for now please
do no DO NOT ENTER BASEMENT PLS plsplspls!!! Why?? Ee well😓😓 I kinda still have those people in there... they deserve it! (Sure they do)(but he feeds them so no worry
As i said before, he is a gym rat, his s/o could lay on his back and he still would do push ups(tbh he enjoys that bcs not only he exercise but also spents time with them)
He would love to go to park with them, watch a movie in cinema, talk shit about neibours. Sadly he thinks that due to his eee chilhood trauma he cant do all this stuff :((. Hopefully his s/o will help him change his mind! Help him leave all that stuff in past.
He do be laying on floor drawing with crayons and waving his legs in air (also humming)
His love language is definitely quality time. He loves doing anything with them really! S/o wants to cook something together? Get him an apron! S/o wants to cuddle and watch movies? Say less He will get some blankets and make couch mega comfy! S/o wants to dance or goof around just vibing? He can try that!
About 'play fighing' well that's not the best idea, I mean he likes it?? But it kinda gets into his head?? And he might to something very hurtful and bad acidently
What he loves the most are little things. How s/o knocks on door of his workshop before entering to make sure he knows that they are entering, or how they grab his hand when they are stressed, or how they bring him food when he's too busy/overwhelmed to do so himself, or when they give him space and understanding when he needs that, and when they lisen to him mumble about the horrid stuff he witnessed
He loves kissing them on forehead, hugs from behind, playing with hair, lazy mornings including snuggles
Sorry for long wait, I have a lot of stuff to do latley!! It is 2am I just finished watching move! I really hope those headcanons fit into your Dominic interpretation! Also good news! I think I might include his silly fella in my future headcanons! Cuz hes goofy! Please give more movie recommendations!
Love you all cya in next one

if anyone wants to recommend musicals to me I would fucking adore that. Until then, here are some suggestions:
Love in Hate Nation-- LET’S GO LESBIANS! 1960s sapphic love story taking place in a girls’ reformatory. Also, trans girl played by trans actress!!! Some of the amazing songs are “I Hope” and “Oh Well”. Susannah Son wants to be a singer, her performative activist boyfriend is gross and also wants her to marry him so he’ll have better options politically. Sheila Nail is so fucking cool and I love everyone in this. My brain cuts out about this I’m so sorry babes. There is not a cast recording but there IS an original cast bootleg on youtube.
Holy Musical B@man!-- If you liked the goofiness of 1960s Batman and Robin, but think “man, these guys should’ve been able to swear! And also should have had a candy themed villain!” this is the musical for you. Also if you’ve heard of the very queer Harry Potter musical that JK herself tried to sue over, it’s made by the same group <3. As usual with Team Starkid, whole thing is up for free on youtube by the creators.
Firebringer-- Speaking of the same group... Cave people sapphics who I think are bi or pan. I love them and they’re all so dumb. Also, if you’ve seen the “I don’t really wanna do the work today” vine, that comes from this. I do not remember any of the second half other than one of them taking the ring the other is proposing with... to propose. And the “*blows kiss*” “fuck no, Zazz” “duly noted”. Kind of like a shitpost musical. Once again, free by creators. Actually, check out any of their musicals.
The Prom-- In Indiana, Emma just wants to take her girlfriend to the prom, and in response, the PTA cancels it. With some help from some broadway actors looking for good publicity, they manage to pull it off. So, to summarize, teen lesbian gets gay uncle who knows what she’s going through!! This musical makes me cry every goddamn time. There is a movie now, and I’m very happy about that because *high profile gay rep on netflix*, but I personally did not like the direction they took with it. They put a weird amount of emphasis on biological rather than found family in the movie, and were a little too forgiving when it came to trauma from family for being gay. Also, they took away Emma being butch. This was sadly (loosely) based on a recent true story from I think 2012. Also, was the first gay kiss in the Macy’s parade. You know those movie musicals the straight girls in theater like? The music is similar, but gayer, and for some reason that makes me so fuckng happy. I think it’s because non-queer people have had musicals for so long, and those normally have a 60s vibe, and the music in this does too and it feels more classic?? Sapphic promposal song (het at the beginning). “Unruly Heart” and the end of Act 1 will break you. Please ignore the bad wigs.
Spies Are Forever-- GAY SPIES GAY SPIES GAY SPIES!! Curt Mega (played by... Curt Mega) lost his partner Owen during a mission. Now, he’s just trying to get back into spying like Owen would want. I fucking weep every time. Also, a song about comphet (at 6:36)!! And here is a video essay on how it relates to the Lavender Scare. I want you all to know that everyone also headcanons the femme fatale spy in it as either a lesbian or aroace, which uh, makes sense. Also high quality videos put up by creators. They had Jewish people making fun of Nazis while writing this, but “Not so Bad” is... kinda bad. “Torture Tango” has so much goddamn sexual tension and becomes devastating.
Hadestown--  If you know the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, it’s like that, except capitalism part 1. Orpheus is a poor musician, Eurydice dies, just like the myth. Except, the Great Depression post-apocalyptic setting that works better than it probably should. There are actually 3 soundtracks: the concept album, off-Broadway, and Broadway. I personally don’t like the concept album purely based on vibe. Off-Broadway has an absolutely gorgeous sounding Orpheus, and if you’ve heard of the disaster that was Spiderman: Turn Out the Dark, then you’ve heard of surprisingly amazing Broadway Orpheus Reeve Carney. The Fates are gorgeous and I’ve decided they’re queer. Tony’s performance link here. Explores relationships, with Hades and Persephone’s aging relationship mirrored by Orpheus and Eurydice’s relatively new one. Anyway, unionize.
Jasper in Deadland-- If you know the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, it’s like that, except capitalism part 2. Jasper is a teen who’s best friend Agnes is pretty much the one good thing left in his life. His mom left, he got kicked off the swim team (he’s manic pixie dream boy in this, especially for swimming), and Agnes dies at the beginning trying to show Jasper that she’s brave and he should be too. So, he bravely ventures into Deadland to find her, meeting Gretchen the tour guide along the way. He also finds out that since he’s still living, he can bring memories back to the dead. Songs like “Stroke by Stroke” (he’s uh, definitely a teen, guys) and “Living Dead” (I shared a prinxiety animatic of that on here a while ago). They blend Greek, Norse, Egyptian, Christian, and whatever Dante’s Inferno counts as together to create Deadland. Story’s kinda hard to follow from the soundtrack, so if u wanna learn how it all ties together message me.
Death Note Musical-- Okay babes, here’s where it gets tough. It was written originally in English, and there is a spectacular English concept album, but the only productions have been in South Korea, Japan, and I think Taiwan. Listen to it anyways, find a bootleg of it with english subtitles. It has so much gay tension and also a truly ethereal character who seems to be a lesbian who is also either demisexual or demiromantic. If any of y’all saw the anime like me, it kind of cuts out the arc after episode 26. I personally thought it was actually a better story for it.
Alice by Heart-- Okay, this one makes me fucking cry every goddamn time. In WW2, these poor goddamn kids are all alone in the Tube System (is that what y’all call it? genuinely asking here) with none of their parents but still some grownups. Alice’s best friend Alfred is dying of tuberculosis, and to try to have one last thing together they start reading Alice in Wonderland, only for Nurse Hart to rip it apart to try to separate healthy Alice from dying-from-TB Alfred. It doesn’t work, and Alice proclaims she “knows it all by heart”, She tries to linger in the story with Alfred to have more time with him, he keeps trying to move it along because he’s dying and wants to finish it one last time. Themes are growing up and grief I guess.
Last I checked, there is a bootleg for all of these on youtube. Have fun!

Can you tell me about Yakuza 0? I've never played it before and would like to read your thoughts on it.
YOOOOOOOOOOO LES FUKIN GO (thank u!!)
This review is spoiler-free!
Tumblr media
Despite what you might assume a game about a bunch of tough muscley fighting dudes, the amount of moral philosophy in this game could rival a 3-part episode of Star Trek: TNG in terms of surprisingly deep and emotional thought. The struggles the protagonists go through has a huge emphasis on honor, keeping your word, taking responsibility for your actions, standing up to things you think are wrong and persevering no matter how much pain, suffering and threat you personally go through all in the name of trying to be a good person, and emphasizing that the mental fortitude to stand for your convictions is the true strength, not just brawn. Character development is absolutely fantastic and I feel like it’s impossible not to fall for these main characters by the end of the game, no matter how weird or even pigheaded they might seem to you at first.
(Trust me, moral philosophy is probably my biggest autistic hyper-fixation. They did this shit GOOD.)
Another major reason I really love Yakuza 0 is that it takes an unusual setting to the normal person - the incredibly political, dark, yet surprisingly realistic setting of organized bullies, criminals, and the uneducated brawn and bad-attitude baddies of the world and try to show them as worthy of more as humans like you and me than just trash that should not be seen or touched. The amount of humanitarian outlook on these people and the humanitarianism of our protagonists is absolutely heartwrenching and beautiful. Despite appearances, anyone can be a good person - this seems to be a major message in this story which I just find absolutely beautiful.
The yakuza definitely have different rules to their world, and that is one that’s built on violence over paperwork, especially when it comes to showing eachother the extent of their passion about something. I feel like it’s an excellent way of portraying the difficulties any normal person goes through with their mental health while struggling to do the right thing in a very direct and relatably painful way that anyone can understand.
The story deals with not only the importance of preserving life and protecting it with surprisingly pacifist ideologies, but the aesthetics in align with the idea that no matter how dark the world or your life feels, happiness is always an option.
Why you might love Yakuza 0 even if the plot doesn’t sound that interesting to you:
Tons of minigames - I think about 28~30 total. That includes 4 actual vintage SEGA arcade games! There’s also tons of gambling games like black jack and shogi, fishing, rhythm games, bowling, fighting tournaments, pool, darts, stock car racing, doll dressup.. It’s very hard not to find at least one you’ll like!
Tourism. Yakuza 0 has such an incredible amount of visual detail to every nook and cranny of every corner and unseen alleyway in the town maps that it feels just absolutely insane to me. The devs didn’t need to put in all this detail but they did. I could legit spend hours in first person mode just looking at everything. On top of that, every restaurant in town has a detailed menu describing each item despite the fact that all food items are just generic healing items. I think there’s even a bar where the bartender will go on a spiel talking about certain drinks after you order them. The atmosphere really makes you feel like you’re truly taking a vacation in another place. Great for when you’re longing to see new scenery while being stuck at home all the time during COVID.
The amount of optional side quests is absolutely insane. According to a wiki there’s a total of 100 side quests in all. If you’re a fan of JRPGs or a fan of completionism, completing them all gives you a ton of extra content and side-stories that can sometimes be just as gutwrenchingly wholesome or tragic as the main plot, or otherwise be great comic relief.
Speaking of comic relief, this game is notorious for it. The main plot can be incredibly serious and stressful and the devs know that can really wear down on the mental state of the player after awhile, so seeing Kiryu dance at a disco in the most lame awkward embarassing dad way possible, or see him pick up a phone in the most ridiculously over-dramatic way for no reason, or see Goro sing lovey-dovey pop songs is just something that will absolutely kill you with laughter and joy and give you a refreshed break you need to help you be able to keep continuing on.
Big fan of seiyuu (Japanese voice actors)? The karaoke bar lets you hear your protagonists’ gorgeous singing voice. You can even invite some side characters and hear their voices too!
Tumblr media
NOW THE FAIR CRITICISMS:
Despite the plot having a huge emphasis on how important the morality is of not killing, fighting animations are often totally lethal. Goro canonically fights with a knife and a bat by the end of the game. Both characters can use guns, swords, poisoned knives, baseball bats and other lethal items as a weapon. One of Goro’s main fighting animations is snapping a dude’s neck. Kiryu threw a dude out of a high window. Kiryu shoots at dudes with a gun in a high speed chase at some point and none of these instances are ever addressed in canon plot as having blood on the hands of these characters - no matter what, the people hurt by these things seem to be able to stand up fine later on like nothing happened. Even the main characters can get shot by an actual gun 20 times in a row and shrug it off by shoving convenience store food down their throat. It’s super dumb but absolutely hilarious in it’s unaddressed B-Movie esque hypocritical nature and became a huge in-joke with the fandom. Despite these Goofy Video Game Logic instances, the main plot (specifically the cutscenes) are all extremely realistic and well done. Actual members of real-world Yakuza say the story is pretty accurate to reality.
One of the minor characters is obviously a trans woman but is misgendered constantly by other characters, including the protagonist (though this may be a translation problem), and is the only female character in the game you can fight and have to fight in order to unlock Kiryu’s endgame fighting style (though he remarks he only fights her because she looks like she can handle herself in a fight). She does end up joining up with you as an ally afterwards without changing anything about herself so that’s a positive, I guess? SEGA is aware of fans’ dislike for transphobia and have removed a lot of transphobic content from their re-releases of future Yakuza games, as well as shown the protagonist, Kiryu, as a huge LGBTQ+ ally.
-----------------
Things you might like or otherwise want to check out relating to the same story style of Yakuza 0 I personally highly recommend:
Kyou Kara Ore Wa!! (aka, "From Today, It's My Turn!!"): Absolutely hilarious gag comedy with surprisingly heartwrenching drama and incredibly lovable in-depth characters. It’s about highschool delinquents in the late 1980s (same era Yakuza 0 takes place!). The two main characters remind me a lot of the protagonists of Yakuza 0 in that one is very straight-laced and honorable while the other is more prone to dirty tricks but still does the right thing in the end. I personally recommend reading the manga above all because adaptations cut out a lot of details that I feel add a lot of depth to the characters, but the OVA anime is pretty good on it’s own and there’s a hilarious live action TV show adaptation if you like slapstick.
Rookies: A story about an impossibly determined formerly disgraced highschool teacher doing absolutely everything he can to be the best teacher he can be. Part of his journey is helping reform a group of delinquents who have self-sabotaged themselves into having their baseball team - the one thing they cared about - disbanded. The delinquents constantly fight the teacher off, believing him to just be another adult putting on airs instead of truly caring, while the teacher perseveres no matter what to prove them wrong. A manga and live action drama - both extremely good.

2019 Retrospective Survey
Once upon a time, in the wayback ancient days of yesteryear, aka 2006 or so, people would fill out little self-important surveys about themselves almost every night on Myspace. These surveys were then posted to your profile via a “bulletin” and could be perused by your friends at their leisure.
Eventually, this phenomena evolved into what we now know as “ask games” - people taking these surveys and, instead of just filling them out, reblogging them in the hopes that their followers might grow curious enough to send in some numbers.
Well, to that evolution of this tradition, I say - pah! I’ll answer all these questions and you’ll like it!!
Or you’ll skip it, which is probably the reasonable thing to do. This is mostly for me, so I have some vague record of this year to look back on, which I’ve been bad about the past several years.
1. First things first, did you have a good year?
It’s kind of tough for me to discern what is good and bad, anymore, especially when it comes to my life experiences. Things kind of just “are.” I think I had a pretty good year overall, though, if I step back and look at it, and ignore my mental health and those other niggling little details.
2. How old did you turn this year?
Twenty-eight. Getting up there. I’ve been doing some version of these surveys since I was like, fourteen. That’s fourteen years of random, unnecessary internet void-shouting.
3. Do you feel your age?
Not really. When I was younger, I definitely thought 28-year-olds always had their shit together, automatically, just because of the age. Like it feels like an age where I really should’ve outgrown a lot of things. But I haven’t yet, not at all, and I have zero interest in conventional adulthood.
Did your appearance change in anyway?
I got new glasses, because I lost my old ones in Hawaii.
Post your favorite selfie.
Tumblr media
I rarely like selfies where I smile, so even though this one is clearly some goofy cheesin’, I still consider it kinda special.
If you traveled, where did you go?
I went to a place called Monroe, in Utah, which has some amazing hot springs. Slept overnight in a converted hippie bus. It was freezing (if you weren’t in the springs), but really fun!
I also went to Maui, Hawai’i. It was beautiful and I do see why people love it there, but it was very much so not for me. Also flying while fat fucking suuuuucks aaaaass, hugely.
Which fashion trends did you love?
Eye makeup got really fun and weird this year - I love the new shapes and crazy colors.
Tumblr media
Here’s a decent example on Halsey. The way her top lid has a line above the lid and under the brow - I’ve never seen that before this year. Really fun and new kinda twist on makeup.
Which fashion trends did you hate?
Chunky dad shoes, the popularity of Crocs (and I fucking love Crocs, don’t get me wrong,) and other seemingly-ironic “comfortable chic” styles. It’s super cute on most skinny girls but the moment a fat girl tries to rock that style, it’s “sloppy” or “lazy.” On the other hand, it was good to see some women reject more revealing or extravagant styles in favor of being comfortable. It’s just tough for a fat woman like me to pull off.
What was your favorite article of clothing this year? Post a pic if possible?
I pretty much lived in black sweatpants and baggy t-shirts this year.
What song sums up this year for you?
“I Think I’m OKAY” by Machine Gun Kelly feat. Yungblud
What album came out and has been on heavy rotation since then?
I listened to a ton of “thank u, next” and “when we all fall asleep, where do we go?” this past year.
What was your favorite movie of the year?
I haven’t seen any movies from 2019 yet. I watched one film this year: “Slow West” - it was pretty good!
Did an actor/actress catch your attention for the first time this year?
The entire casts of Legacies and Runaways.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Favorite new TV show?
Probably Legacies! Really surprised me, but it’s a fun show!
Which new ship/fandom has taken over a lot of your time, attention, and tears?
Cheleanor stole my heart this year, from The Good Place. I, of course, spent way too much time thinking and talking about The 100. Gotta give another shoutout to Legacies and Runaways. Special nod to #deanoru and #hosie, respectively.
What food did you try for the first time?
I tried dragonfruit and papaya for the first time while in Hawai’i. It was also the first time I’d ever tried and enjoyed mango. All the other mango I’d had was never sweet enough and always reminded me a lil bit of cat pee, but a fresh tropical mango is fuckin’ heaven.
Did you make any big permanent changes this year?
Not really “permanent”, but semi-permanent - I moved out of one place and into a new one. We definitely won’t be here forever, though. Maybe a year or two.
What was one nice thing you did for someone else?
I do a lot of little nice things for my husband every day, it’s kinda tough to list them all.
What was one nice thing you did for yourself?
I reached out to an old friend that I had been fighting with and made amends, and we’re friends again.
Did you develop a new obsession?
I always move from TV show to TV show obsessively - lots have already been mentioned. I think I got more into The Try Guys this past year than I have before. I also played a lot more management sims than I ever expected to - games like Dead in Vinland, Banished, Frostpunk, Weedcraft Inc, and This War of Mine.
Did you vote?
Shoulda - didn’t.
Did you move?
Yup! Moved out of my old roommate’s house and into my own apartment.
Did you get a job?
In a sense - I drive for DoorDash. It’s definitely work, but not a conventional job.
Did you get a pet?
No. :( In fact, I kinda lost some - I loved the shit out of my roommate’s dogs, I got way too attached to them. I miss them too much.
Do you regret not doing anything?
Not really.
Do you regret doing something?
Yeah, I let a friend down in July. Wish I hadn’t done that, but. I’m not a very good friend to have, and I’m okay with that. The people who get it stick around through the tough stuff.
Have you done anything that scared you?
I always think it’s a little scary to get on a plane. That’s probably it.
Did anyone/thing make you so mad it stayed with you for days?
God, yes. Too many things. Still angry at my old roommate for being such an asshole about cleaning and for threatening to kick us out. That’s the one that happened this year, lol. But I’m still angry about things that happened years ago. I can hold a hell of a grudge.
Did you lose anyone close to you?
Not this year. Got lucky. Guess the universe decided to give me a little break.
Did you fall in love?
Nah, but I stayed in love with a coupla people. ;)
Did you fall out of love?
Nope!
Did you start a new relationship?
Nah. My husband and I have been together for 8 years.
Did you go through a break up?
See above!
Did you have to cut ties to someone?
Kinda. Had one or two people who wanted to be my friend. Made the mistake of being approachable and shit. But they figured out I’m a flakey asshole soon enough. :)
Who was important to you this year but wasn’t important last year?
I made amends with my friend, Tracie, this year. She was always important to me. But I was pretending that she wasn’t, last year.
Who wasn’t as important to you this year as they were last year?
I can’t really think of anyone. I guess my husband’s best friend - she moved out of our old house first, and I stopped talking to her as often. Prior to that we’d been pretty close. Proximity-based closeness is a trip, y’all.
If you could have a do over on one thing you did, would you take it?
Nah. I made it through. That’s all that counts.
What was the best moment of the year for you?
Seeing my friend get married. It was a really, really lovely ceremony.
What was the worst?
Probably when I tried out a new form of self-harm - aka banging my head as hard as possible against the bathroom sink. Gave myself a mild concussion. 0/5 would not recommend.
Did anything happen that you were sure would change you as a person but it really didn’t?
Going to Hawai’i. I don’t know why I thought it would change me - it just seems like one of those “life-changing” destinations, y’know? But it wasn’t. It was beautiful and otherworldly, and also full of a weird and uncomfortable mixture of white wealth and brown poverty. If anything, that only affirmed my beliefs more.
Tumblr media
Did anything happen to you that you were sure wouldn’t change you as a person but it did?
It’s tough to answer these sometimes, because I just don’t really know who I am “as a person.” I don’t think there was anything I didn’t expect. Not this year.
What are you most proud of accomplishing?
I got out and worked a lot. I pushed through some really tough times and experienced some nice things on the other side. I was able to care for my husband during his down moments, the way he’s cared for me. I fuckin’ survived, which is always an accomplishment for someone whose brain is frequently shouting at them to end it all.
What have you learned about yourself this year that you didn’t know in the years prior?
I’m more resilient emotionally than I thought I was. I’m less resilient physically than I used to be.
Did your opinion of anyone change for the better?
I feel warmer and closer to my mother-in-law than ever before.
Did your opinion of anyone change for worse?
My sister continues to find new ways to disappoint me, but that isn’t exclusive to 2019. My former roommate went from being, in my mind, a mostly-okay guy, to potentially one of the worst people I’ve ever met. And that’s really saying something. Duplicity and lack of awareness go a long way in making someone shitty, though.
If you make resolutions, did you complete them this year?
Nah, pahaha. I was supposed to go outside and also journal every day. Didn’t do that. I mostly kept up with it, but there are a lot of gaps. I definitely spent a week or two consecutively indoors, at least twice.
If you make resolutions, what will your resolutions be for the coming year?
Probably gonna keep trying with the old ones, tbh.
If you could go on an adventure during the remaining days of the year, where would you go and what would you do?
I would go pick up Cami and head north, for Alaska. Find someone beautiful and peaceful to see the aurora borealis. Drink cream liqueur and hot cocoa with scarves and hats and gloves on. Look up at the endless stars. Have a long, sleepless road trip back, screaming our favorite songs at the top of our lungs, stopping at interesting places when we can.
Tumblr media
What do you wish for others for the coming year?
I just hope things get better, dude. Stabler. Less scary.
What do you wish for yourself?
Same as the above, but on a micro scale. I’m heading into my 30s in this next decade. I gotta find something else to do besides just surviving.

Wolfenstein 2 New Colossus
First, I want to say I love this game. I was incredibly excited for it when all there was was just rumors about it being in production. New Order was one of my favorite games, and I loved every moment of it. New Colossus takes everything that was amazing about the first game and ramps it up even further, embracing absurdity, and going hog wild in a way that just works.
Spoilers below the cut
The game, as we all know, starts after the battle with Deathshead. BJ has been in a coma, and is crippled. The Kreisau base on Eva’s Hammer is attacked by Engel, still seeking vengeance for BJ killing her Bubi. She almost wins out, capturing BJ and two friends, Caroline and whoever you pick to save from Deathshead. There is now carry over of save data, you are given the choice in a series of flashbacks.
On the flashbacks, you get to learn more about BJ’s childhood. His father is an abusive asshole, and his mother a Jewish woman. I remember that there was fan speculation that BJ might be Jewish, or have Jewish heritage, and I’m very glad they went with this. I think it makes BJ more than just an American soldier fighting for America. He has stakes in killing nazis beyond them being America’s enemy. The flashback sequence shows us that BJ’s dad was a nasty bigot, throwing around the n-word, saying it’s “Up to us to straighten out the queer” and even being anti-semtic toward his own wife. It’s implied that they are only married so that BJ’s father can have access to his wife’s family money, and that he has been squandering that.
After your capture, Caroline is killed by Engel. I think we saw this coming, BJ is in her power armor through (half of) the game, and she wasn’t shown in any of the trailers beyond scenes coming from the first level. It’s a gut punch still, and it’s something that motivates BJ through the early levels.
Early on we are told through inner thoughts of BJ that he is dying, and doesn’t have very long to live, maybe weeks, maybe less. He’s driven to burn through and root out the nazi cancer infecting his country. He tries to hide it from Anya, which mostly just causes angst for them.
The early levels are marked most notably by having half your HP. However, the game makes up by giving you higher armor. It’s still a rough handicap, even on lower difficulty levels. Levels include discovering that nazis have been hiding on the u-boat in a hidden section of the hull, a level similar to the side quests at the Berlin hide-out that took you through catacombs, sneaking through the ruins of Manhattan, and infiltrating Area 52.
Area 52 marks the half-way point, culminating in one of my favorite sequences, where BJ stops by his old house. We’re treated to more flashbacks of his childhood, including him playing with the black girl that so enraged his father in the first flashbacks. All of this comes to a spectacular scene where you collect BJ’s mother’s ring and find his father waiting for him.
BJ’s dad is a proud collaborator, working with the nazis and selling out a number of people, including his own wife. He threatens BJ with a shot gun, to which, in typical Blazko fashion, Billy chops off his father’s arm and kills him with a hatchet. A beautiful moment, and a deserved end to the monster.
Things go to shit from there for BJ. Engel captures him, steals his power armor, and leaves him a chained cripple. He gets humiliated, is forced to watch Super Spesh killed, and are left believing that Anya and the rest of his friends are dead too before he is taken to court.
Then he breaks free and slaughters and entire building of nazis. Which is a dream sequence that ends with BJ hallucinating his mother. BJ is taken away and is finally publicly executed by Engel, beheaded by a sword and his head is dropped to an incinerator.
Yep, half way through the game BJ is killed. It’s okay, it doesn’t stick.
In what is a delightful twist right out of a cheesy B sci-fi movie, his head is swapped for a fake, put in a jar that keeps it alive, and he is given a new genetically engineered body.
With a new lease on life, BJ also gets a new toy, shoulder pads, a harness, or stilts. What you pick doesn’t effect the story, just gameplay. Each is for a different style, and gives you a different ability. I picked the harness because I like stealth.
With the nazis thinking him dead, and with a new body, BJ continues his fight with a new drive. Murdering nazis and recruiting more resistance fighters, BJ builds an army and starts taking out nazi commanders.
BJ explores the New Orleans Ghetto, a walled city of dissidants and deviants that is being purged by the nazis. He manages to rescue a large group of freedom fighters and their leader, Horton, who is a bit of a douche, but is willing to fight after a bit of convincing.
Riding the panzerhound is a fun sequence of taking a flamethrower to nazi scum and incinerating every single one of them in your path. It’s not too hard to get it through to the end of the sequence, since you’ll pick up scraps for it, much like the robot escape from Camp Belica.
It’s decided that to fully kick off the revolution, they need to take out the airship that is used by Engel to quickly respond to any sort of resistance to Nazi rule. They need codes for that, much like you needed codes for the u-boat’s cannon. And where are the codes? In space! But not on the moons. This time you go to Venus!
Disguised as an actor auditioning for the role of none other than William Joseph “Terror-Billy” Blazkowicz, William Joseph “Terror-Billy” Blazkowicz  infiltrates the nazi base on Venus where he comes face to face with Actually Hitler.
Hitler is an old decrepit man now, hacking and coughing and walking half bent over. He still has the absurd mustache and a goofy fashy haircut. The encounter is marked by him being a paranoid nut, shooting the other actors when they mess up (this includes you if you get the lines wrong), urinating in an ice bucket, and vomiting on the floor.
During the audition, BJ is given a chance that mirrors one given in the New Order. Much like he could grab Engel’s gun, he can Riverdance on Hitler’s face. BJ gets further with the furher, actually stamping his face in, but then heare evaporated by a robot for his efforts. Worth doing (at least) once, since you are returned to just before the stomp if you do it.
After the audition BJ is selected to be the actor for the film about himself, and he has to escape his room, infiltrate the control room on the Venusian surface, and collect the controls for the airship. A mechanic here that is unique to the level is the coolant. On medium it isn’t much concern. There are plenty of coolant stations and it doesn’t drop fast enough to be a real danger, though you will probably hear the reminder lines from BJ a few times.
Codes in hand, BJ returns to Earth and prepares to steal the highly advanced airship.
But first there is something wrong. The emergency lights are on and it’s only Bombate to greet BJ as he boards the sub. Where is everyone?
Surprise~! It’s BJ’s birthday! You are treated to a hilarious montage of the group enjoying drinks and having a hilarious party that includes a pig ride, Max Hass no-selling BJ’s punches, and Set Roth vomiting in the jar that once held BJ’s head.
After a sequence that is different based on who survived the events of New Order, it is finally time to take the revolution to the nazi’s door.
The airship is not an easy level. There are tons of elite enemies, long fights that are taxing, and a complex sequence to unlock the control room. The roughest fight is the final one, where you have to battle through waves of elite and non-elite soldiers, super-soldiers, and two super robots at once. Once you are finally through that you get to enter the bridge.
BJ is ambushed by nazi soldiers there who come through a bay door with a panzerhound. Luckily for BJ, Anya is there. Remember the shot of pregnant Anya throwing the grenades at the feet of Nazi soldiers from the trailer? That happens here. She slides, tosses the grenades, blows up the nazis in a rain of blood. She has to throw off her jacket because it’s on fire, and the panzerhound is still up. Does that stop her? Hell no. She grabs a pair of shot guns and blasts the robo-dog away, half naked, pregnant, and drenched in blood.
I can see why BJ is so in love with her.
Airship firmly in the control of the heroes, we discover that word has not reached Engel, who is doing an interview on TV below. Well, no time like the present. The gang descends to the surface, breaks into the tv station, and BJ gets to walk through the rafters until he finally gets to the stage and has his one-on-one with the most powerful woman in the reich.
The fight is quick. She shots at BJ, BJ chops off her arm with a hatchet, and then buries the blade in her skull while giving a speech about how fighting for freedom. It’s another intense moment, and you get to top it off with a speech from Grace (and whoever you saved from Deathshead) to the American people to stand up and fight for their freedom.
Roll credits, then a mid-credits scene where BJ proposes to Anya with his mother’s ring, which Engel stole.
It’s an amazing game. The story is handled like a movie, the cinematics have a movie feel, like they are just scenes lifted from a film about BJ. In-game sequences often have a movie-like feel to them as well, and it works really well. New Order did the same thing, and I think it’s what made the game so good.
Actual gameplay is pretty tough. As I have mentioned, even medium difficulty can be hard, and the game isn’t too forgiving. Luckily there is plenty of ways to find health and armor, and there is no shortage of guns and ammo. The heavy weapons are worth picking up if you get into a heavy firefight.
As I have been repeating, I cannot recommend this game enough. It isn’t perfect, but my god, this is a very very good game. Goofy, certainly. Hard, definitely, but if you like killing nazis (as you should) then this is the game for you.
