Things That Go Bump In The Night Pt. 1 of 2
This is my contribution to the @thedeckerstarnetwork  Helloween Gift Exchange! I wrote this for @missielynne and my original prompt was the beach, blue, and vampire. But, missielynne gave me the option to go off track and come up with whatever sparked my fancy! I did keep the vampire element though! :D
This fic is rated T for graphic depictions of violence. It has established Deckerstar, established Laze, and established Dan/Charlotte (they deserve to be happy, sue me). Set sometime after the season three finale, where all involved parties are ‘in the know’.
@missielynne I hope you enjoy your gift! I just wish that I had just a little more time to put into this (but alas, school has killed me this semester). I’ll have part two up by tomorrow at the very latest, sorry for the minor cliffhanger, but I promise you won’t have to wait long!

Chloe drew in a deep breath of the crisp autumn air as she stepped out of the Corvette, the slight breeze sending fallen leaves and straws of hay skittering past her feet. She glanced over her shoulder when she heard the solid thud of Lucifer closing the driver’s side door of the car, watching as he fished a cigarette and a lighter out of his pockets with ease.
“Are you sure it’s a good idea to light up here?” She asked curiously as she gestured to the ground and the thick layer of hay that resided there.
“Are you applying for the role of fire commissioner?” Lucifer chuckled before placing it between his lips. Chloe rolled her eyes at his quip, but before she could begin to think of a fitting retort a white SUV was pulling up beside her. She didn’t have to look twice to know that it was Dan, Charlotte, and Trixie. Right on time. Now if only she knew when Maze and Linda would show up.
“Hey, Chlo.” Dan greeted her as he got out of the car, shooting her a smile that she quickly returned.
“Morning, Dan,” She quickly replied, watching as he pulled the rear door open, letting Trixie rush out of the car in a jumble of frizzy curls and gappy teeth.
“Mommy!” The screech of her title came just before her daughter collided into her legs, pulling a huff of breathless laughter from her as she bent down to pull her daughter closer.
“Hey there monkey.” Chloe murmured into her daughter's hair, pulling back slightly and taking in the girl’s appearance as she asked, “How was your weekend?”
“Good.” She answered happily, glancing over at her dad before she quickly added, “Charlotte helped me make Halloween cookies!”
“Did she?” Chloe asked curiously, offering Dan’s girlfriend a smile as the tall blonde walked around the front of the car before winding an arm around Dan’s back.
“They’re in the car,” Charlotte explained as Chloe righted herself, stepping forward to give the taller woman a quick hug.
“Thank you.” Chloe breathed as she pulled away, she had to admit that even though she felt a little guilty for not being there to help she was glad that at least Charlotte had been there for her daughter while she put in hours on overtime, chasing down leads that all turned into cold cases. This October had been particularly bad for missing people and what seemed to be homicides, if the massive pools of blood at the scenes were anything to go by.
“Lucifer!” Her daughter's bright peal of the fallen angel's name drew her mind from her work as she watched the girl fling her arms around his waist, jostling him hard enough to make him lose grip on the cigarette in his hand. The glowing stub fell into the thick layer of hay, quickly catching onto the dry straws as orange blue tongues of flame quickly lapped up. Chloe tensed as she watched him quickly snuff out the growing flames with his shoe, a thin trail of smoke trailing up from the smoldering ashes.
Before Chloe could even open her mouth to scold him, a shiny charcoal sports car pulled up on the other side of the Corvette before quickly cutting the engine. “Who said you could commit arson without me?” Mazikeen’s voice rang out as she stepped out of the car, earning a long-suffering sigh from the devil as his shoulders slumped slightly.
“Very funny, Mazikeen.” The retort was dry, humorless, and for the hundredth time this week Chloe wondered what exactly had been weighing on his shoulders. He wasn’t his usual cheery self; he was stressed, aloof, tired. Something was wrong, but every time she asked he claimed that things had just been taking their toll recently. Chloe wasn’t sure whether or not she should believe him.
“So, who’s ready for pumpkins?” Linda’s bright and cheery voice broke the quiet as she got out of the sports car and clapped her hands together, quickly easing the tense situation away as though it hadn’t existed in the first place.
“I am!” Trixie shouted happily, drawing a strangled laugh from her mother as the woman shook her head softly. It seemed as though this would be the new normal for Halloween’s from now on.
---------------------------
“So, how true are all of the Halloween myths?” Dan’s curious voice broke the content quiet with ease as the small band of friends slowly picked their way through the vast field dotted with bright orange pumpkins.
“Which ones?” Lucifer chuckled, a smirk filling his face as he stared down at the shorter man.
“The ones about monsters.” He elaborated, a playful twinkle in his eye as he quickly looked the taller man over.
“And demons,” Linda chimed in a moment later, wrapping her arms around Maze’s waist, earning a soft hum of appreciation from the demon.
“And the devil coming out to play,” Chloe chuckled, nudging her boyfriend with her elbow and earning a wide grin from him.
“The devil has been out to play for a while.” He purred playfully, his voice sending a delightful wave of goosebumps prickling along her skin.
“Monsters are demons, just reduced to human terms and descriptions.” Maze explained after a short beat of silence, and the group came to a stop around her.
“Werewolves?” Charlotte questioned curiously.
“A kind of demon.” Lucifer supplied simply.
“Vampires?” Linda asked as she released her hold on Maze’s waist.
“Another kind of demon.” The demon answered as she reached down and took the blonde’s hand in her own.
“Zombies?” Trixie’s bright voice inquired as the child practically bounced around the adults.
“A product of the human imagination.” Lucifer chuckled as he started forward, spurring the rest of the group back into motion.
“Is the veil really thinner on Halloween?” Charlotte asked.
“Yes, actually.” The devil answered, “Though not very much so. Only the really strong ones can get through.”
“And if they don’t get back over in time, then it’s game over,” Maze added, taking a finger to her throat and making a slicing motion. Chloe shivered slightly at the implications of the gesture, willing herself not to think too much about it. She was still trying to come to terms with dating satan himself.
“So how are you two here year round?” Dan questioned, quirking a brow.
“I’m an angel, Daniel.” Lucifer scoffed, “I’m not reduced to any of the rules that pertain to demons.”
“What about Maze though?”
“I’m one of the powerful ones.” The demon in question answered. “And Lucifer’s angel magic keeps the veil open for me. I’m sworn to him, I’m allowed wherever he is.”
“You’re sworn to Lucifer?” Linda asked curiously, something that sounded like jealousy spiking in the woman’s voice.
“In service.” Lucifer clarified a half-second later. “The servant of an angel can only be an effective asset if allowed the same jurisdiction over an area as said angel.” He paused for a long moment, letting out a soft chuckle before quietly murmuring, “I don’t think Dad ever expected a demon to serve an angel, though.”
“So you just have a demon swear their services to you and suddenly they can come topside whenever they want?” Dan pressed, earning a scoff from the devil.
“It’s a bit more complicated than that, Daniel. I’m only allowed one at a time, and I can’t appoint another until the current one dies.” Lucifer clarified, nudging the man in the side with his elbow before conspiratorially adding; “And if I’m being honest, we all know that Maze will outlive even me.” His quip managed to draw a few chuckles from the group.
“Mommy, I found one!” Trixie’s bright voice drew the adults from their conversation as they turned to glance at the child as she crouched next to a massive pumpkin lying in the dirt.
“That’s a big one baby,” Chloe stated as she bent down beside her daughter, carefully brushing some dirt from the side of the pumpkin. “What are you going to carve in it?”
“A black cat! Or a witch!” She exclaimed happily as Dan retrieved a pocket knife from his jacket and quickly sawed through the thick stem. “Or Maze!” The girl's voice grew even more excited as she smiled at her favorite demon. “And then you could carve Lucifer!” Chloe forced herself not to snort at the mental image. It wasn’t as though her boyfriend needed any more reason to be cocky.
Maze stepped forward as soon as Dan bent down to pick up the behemoth of a pumpkin, scooping it up as though it weighed nothing. “I’ve got this.”
“Maze, you don’t have to.” The man protested quietly, trying to take the squash back as Maze batted his hands away.
“Hush, I’m trying to impress my girlfriend.” Maze quietly whispered under her breath, and Chloe grinned at the statement, watching as Dan only nodded mutely as he lifted his hands in mock surrender.
“So, is there even a point to Halloween?” Linda asked curiously, glancing between the two hellions.
“No,” Lucifer answered simply. “You humans and your odd traditions are mostly meaningless.” He chuckled, quickly adding; “Not that I’m going to complain about Halloween. It’s one of my favorite ones.”
The small group didn’t manage to get more than a dozen paces before Trixie’s bright voice was ringing through the air once more, “Dad! Can we go to the corn maze?”
“I haven’t picked my pumpkin yet, monkey.” The girl's shoulders slumped slightly at the statement, a soft huff of disappointment escaping her tiny frame.
“I could take her,” Charlotte offered a moment later, and the child perked back up immediately.
“Are you sure?” Dan asked, earning a quick nod from his girlfriend.
“Of course,” She answered, quickly placing a kiss against his cheek before continuing, “Go pick your pumpkin.” She turned to the girl a moment later, holding her hand out as she playfully asked, “We need more girl time anyways, don’t we?”
Chloe watched as the two linked hands before quickly making their way over to the maze across the field. A small spark of jealousy threatened to flare up, but she quickly pushed it irrational emotion away. Charlotte wasn’t replacing her, and Trixie deserved to have a good relationship with the woman who would likely be her stepmom one day.
As soon as the two forms disappeared into the mouth of the maze, Linda shot Dan a sly smile. “So, when are you going to propose to her?” The doctor questioned almost conspiratorially.
“What?” Dan chuckled. Shaking his head as he stammered over himself, “I don’t - I’m not -”
“Daniel,” Linda pressed, a no-nonsense tone taking up residence in her voice.
Dan let out a soft sigh, running a hand through his hair as he quickly dropped the charade and admitted, “I was thinking around Christmas time…”
His admission drew a wide smile from the doctor, and Chloe had to admit that she was a little surprised at how quickly their relationship was moving. Though to be fair, her relationship with Lucifer had been moving at roughly the same speed. Linda coughed exaggeratedly before nudging Lucifer with her elbow, earning an eye roll and a chuckle from the devil. “How subtle, doctor.” He admonished playfully,
“I’m just saying, you’re not getting any younger.” Linda stage-whispered, and Chloe couldn’t help the blush that spread across her cheeks at the thought of her devilish boyfriend proposing to her.
“I’m also not getting any older.” Lucifer replied, gesturing to himself as he added, “Immortal. Remember?”
Linda fell silent at that for a long moment, finding her voice after a drawn-out pause. “That does beg the question, what’s going to happen with you two when...well, when you get old?” She directed the last half of the question to Chloe, and she faltered under the woman’s knowing gaze.
It was a question that she’d been trying to avoid. The thought of the inevitable. The biggest roadblock standing in the way of the relationship that she had with her boyfriend. “I - um…”
Thankfully, Lucifer answered for her. “Chloe will go to heaven.”
“And you?” Linda pressed, her eyebrows drawing together as she asked,
“Well, either father will let me back in, or I’ll have to start a war. Besides, the place could use new management.” He answered simply. As though starting a war between heaven and hell was the simplest thing. “Don’t you think?” He asked, directing the question at Maze who gave him a demonic grin that sent a small wave of shivers down Chloe’s spine.
“New management would be good.” She purred, something dark and promising violence sparking in her eyes.
“Dude. You’re talking about overthrowing God.” Dan deadpanned, giving the two hellions a stern look as he continued, “Isn’t that like...the stuff of apocalypses?”
“It would be, if I actually had any intention of causing humans harm,” Lucifer answered, waving his hand through the air as though he could wave Dan’s question away. “What’s the saying, live and let live?”
Chloe worried her lower lip between her teeth as she quickly focused on a nearby pumpkin, crouching down beside it as she easily pulled the subject away from her death and a possible apocalyptic war. “Hey, I found my pumpkin!”
Lucifer bent down beside her, holding one of his hands out as she quietly ordered, “Mazikeen.” A moment later, a shiny black demon blade was being placed in his outstretched hand, before he made quick work of the pumpkins stem, slicing through it with ease.
Before either of them could right themselves, Charlotte’s voice was ringing across the field, “Dan! Chloe!” The desperation in her tone was enough to send the detective’s senses on high-alert, but it was the next words out of the woman’s mouth that made her blood run cold. “It’s Trixie!”
“What’s wrong?” Chloe questioned as she stood up, and if it wasn’t for the hand Lucifer wrapped around her forearm she would already be sprinting towards the woman.
“I lost her in the corn maze, I’m so sorry,” Charlotte explained breathlessly as she came to a stop before the small group. “One second she was right next to me, and the next she was just gone!” Chloe could hear the near hysterics in her voice, and it only made her try to pull free from Lucifer’s grip. “I can’t find her anywhere!” It was like a nightmarish re-run of when Malcolm had taken her baby, and it sent her heart skittering in her chest.
“I’ll find her.” Maze spoke up, quickly placing the massive pumpkin in her arms on the ground before stalking towards the corn maze with determined strides. “Child’s play.” The demon threw over her shoulder confidently as Chloe tried to pry Lucifer’s fingers from her arm.
“Darling.” He spoke up gently, soothing a hand over hers. “Give Maze a chance, she’s one of the best trackers I know.” The statement didn’t help her nerves at all, she knew that Maze was the best, but she still wouldn’t feel alright until she had her daughter back in her arms. “She’ll find your little offspring in no time.” Chloe wanted to protest, but she knew that he did have a point. Maze was otherworldly, and there was no way that she wouldn’t find her daughter...right?
Every second that ticked by seemed to be its own short eternity. And with every passing minute, even Lucifer seemed to grow more and more antsy. Maze came crashing through the side of the corn maze after a few minutes, but the sight Chloe was greeted with only sent her nerves racing under skin stronger than ever. Maze’s hair was a wild mess, and her eyes even seemed to be sparked with worry, but it was the words out of her mouth that almost made Chloe’s world stop spinning. “Lucifer, we have a problem.”
Chloe was frozen in place as her boyfriend cursed under his breath, quickly making his way over to the demon with determined strides. Chloe’s mind finally kickstarted itself a moment later, every single one of her synapses going into overdrive as she sprinted towards the two of them. “What’s wrong?” She questioned, doing her best to keep the hysterics from her voice as she followed after Lucifer and Maze as they stepped into the corn maze. “Where’s my daughter?” She pressed, barely even aware of Dan, Charlotte, and Linda following after them.
“I found her last spot.” Maze supplied, but the vague answer did nothing to soothe the distraught mother.
“And?” Lucifer questioned, his voice as business as he easily pushed thick stalks of corn out of his way.
“And traces of demonic activity.” Maze answered, pulling another string of muffled curses from the devil as he pressed forward. “Probably the same ones you’ve been keeping an eye on for a while.”
The simple statement made Chloe falter, Lucifer knew there were other demons around? “You’ve been keeping an eye out on some demonic activity for a while, and you never thought to tell me?” She questioned, the pitch of her voice rising slightly with each word. He should have told her. Why didn’t he tell her?
“Darling, I didn’t want to worry you with it. I doubted that they would do anything, especially to me or mine.” Lucifer explained, but it was a poor defense when her daughter was missing...stolen away by demons. “This is...unorthodox.” He muttered to himself before quickly adding, “If I had thought that anything might come of it I would have told you.”
Chloe opened her mouth to protest that he should have told her regardless, but Maze beat her to it as they stopped in the middle of one of the maze’s corridors. “This is the spot.” The demon stated, and Chloe quickly looked around, finding nothing out of the ordinary. “There were three of them.” Maze added, and another icy chill seeped through the detective’s body.
Chloe watched as Lucifer crouched down, quickly drawing some foreign symbols in the loose dirt under his feet before pressing his hand against one of them. The symbols glowed a blinding white for a moment, and then the light seemed to sweep out in every direction, pouring against the ground and illuminating several inhuman footprints, the shoe prints left by her daughters light-up sketchers, and a few puddles of something staining the dirt. “Oh, bloody hell,” Lucifer muttered under his breath, running a hand across his stubble as he blew out a long, harsh breath.
“Life drainers.” Maze whispered, and the name only served to stir up more unease in the detective.
“What?” She pressed, her voice nearly reaching hysterics at the thought of something called a life drainer having its filthy hands on her girl.
“Vampires.” Lucifer clarified a moment later. “Or at least...what you humans call vampires.”
“Are you saying that a group of vampires has my baby?” Chloe questioned, and for a moment she swore that she was going to start hyperventilating. Why would they take her daughter? Where would they take her? What was the point of this?
“How do we get her back?” Dan asked, having fallen into full-on cop mode as he stared down at the devil.
“Maze does some searching, I go back to Lux and dig through some of my older books, try to see if I can figure out how to locate them,” Lucifer explained as he stood up, brushing his shoe through one of the elaborate symbols in the dirt, immediately causing the otherworldly light seeping up from the footprints to disappear. “We will find her.”
“And then I’ll kill the bastards that had the nerve to take her.” Maze growled darkly, and the promising threat of violence in her tone sent a shiver down her spine as she stared at the ground.
Lucifer must have thought that her shiver had to do with something else, because he quickly stepped forward, resting his hands on her shoulders as he spoke up, “Darling, she’ll be alright.”
“How do you know that Lucifer?” Chloe questioned, tears welling up in her eyes as she shook her head. Vampires had her baby girl, and she was just supposed to believe that she was going to be alright because Lucifer said so? For all he knew they could have already hurt her...or worse.
“Because they usually don’t go after children. There’s no point, not even a full meals worth of blood in there.” Chloe shivered at the blunt honesty in the statement. “They must want her for something else…” He muttered softly, glaring at the soil beneath his feet before Mazikeen’s voice broke the heavy silence.
“A summoning ritual?” Lucifer nodded at her question, and Chloe wondered whether or not she should even ask what a summoning ritual was.
“On Halloween…” The devil added quietly, something calculating taking up residence in his expression as he turned to face his right-hand demon. “We have four days, Mazikeen.” Lucifer’s voice held a steely note as he spoke, and Chloe couldn’t help but dwell on the fact that four days wasn’t a very long time to track down a group of vampires. “Get to work.” Maze nodded once at his order, turning and grabbing Linda’s hand before dragging the other woman away from the group without another word. “We’re going home,” Lucifer stated, his tone leaving no room for argument as he wrapped a hand around Chloe’s forearm and started after Maze and Linda.
“And what are we supposed to do?” Dan questioned, a hint of anger and desperation in his voice.
“Stay out of our way while we hunt them down,” Lucifer answered. “You’re human, you won’t do any good here,” Dan said something else in protest after that, but she wasn’t able to pick up what. Some small part of her recognized that she was going into shock, and Lucifer seemed to notice it too as he ran warm, reassuring hands up and down her arms.
“Everything is going to be fine, Detective.” He murmured, and Chloe nodded mutely even though she had a very bad feeling that nothing may ever be fine again. “I promise,” Lucifer added a moment later, and that helped to soothe her at least a little bit. He didn’t lie. Especially not to her. Maze was already working on it, and she knew that as soon as he dropped her off at home and made sure she would be alright without him that he would join the chase.
Regardless of all of that though, some small part of her felt like there was no way this could get any worse. Her daughter was missing. And her life was at stake.

Hello there! It's your Helloween gift exchange partner! I sent you a message a few days ago but I think Tumblr ate it. Anyways, I just wanted to let you know that I was taking a fluffy, almost crack fic approach with some mild spooks here and there. A lot of Deckerstar, a lot of family vibes with Chloe, Lucifer, and Trixie. I was wondering how you felt about Laze? Or if there was someone else you like seeing Maze with?
Give me all the Laze you can come up with, dear gifter! What you’ve come up with sounds so great. Thanks! :)

Things That Go Bump In The Night Pt. 2 of 2
@missielynne I have finished part two of your gift! Sorry for the little delay! I hope you like it! And I hope that you had a wonderful Halloween! Here is the link to part 1.
---------
Three days. It had been three days since her daughter disappeared, stolen away by a small group of ‘vampires’. The first day she’d been filled with a mixture of numb shock and blind rage. The second day had brought a sense of desperation and steely determination with it, not that it did any good. When she tried to ask Maze if she could help in the search she’d been promptly turned down. But now, on the third day, Chloe was starting to feel utterly defeated. Her daughter was out there somewhere, in danger, and there was nothing she could do to help her. Instead, it was left in the hands of Lucifer and Mazikeen, and although she trusted them both completely to do everything in their power to get Trixie back, she felt like she should be doing something...more.
When a soft knock resounded from her front door, Chloe quickly rushed over, flinging it open as some small part of her prayed that she'd get to see her daughter standing before her. “Detective.” Lucifer greeted the second he saw her, and much to Chloe’s dismay, he didn’t have Trixie with him.
“Lucifer!” Chloe quickly looked him up and down, he looked nearly as bad as she felt. It was clear that he hadn’t saved since Trixie went missing, and if she had to guess, she’d say that he hadn’t slept since then either. “Have you found her?” She asked quickly, hoping for something, for anything that might just give her a glimmer of hope again. They had to be getting close, right? Lucifer wouldn’t have stepped away from the search otherwise.
“Mazikeen is closing in on their location.” He answered with a nod before quickly adding, “We will have her back by nightfall.”
“Oh thank God,” Chloe breathed as her shoulders slumped slightly with relief. She still knew there were plenty of things that could go wrong, but something in her still loosed at the knowledge that they were close.
“My father has played no role in this rescue mission.” Lucifer’s begrudging retort pulled her back into the present, and she silently cursed herself for the slip-up.
“Thank you, Lucifer,” She murmured a moment later, reaching out and resting a hand on her boyfriend’s upper arm.
A hint of a smile just barely tugged at the corner of his mouth as he stepped past her and into her apartment. “It’s what any good guardian would do, protect their offspring.” He offered simply, and Chloe couldn’t ignore the shock that ran through her at hearing Lucifer refer to Trixie like she was his own daughter. It wasn’t that she doubted his commitment to her, or his feelings towards her daughter; it was just such a drastic change from the Lucifer that she’d met all those years ago.
Chloe closed the door behind him, slumping into one of the chairs at her kitchen island across from Lucifer. A long beat of silence passed between the two before he reached out over the granite, his fingers tracing a careful path over the bags under her eyes before drifting lower, catching a strand of her messy golden hair between his fingers. She only needed to see the parental twinkle in his eye to know that he was silently scolding her for not taking care of herself; for not sleeping for the last few days, for forgetting to shower.
Chloe rolled her eyes at his unspoken pestering. Two could play at this game. She reached out, dragging her fingers through his thicker than usual stubble as she gave him her patented ‘mom look’. She managed to draw a soft smile from him as he reached up, cupping her hand with his own as he pulled her fingers to his lips, brushing a barely-there kiss against her skin before letting out a long sigh, his warm breath tickling her skin.
The small moment of normalcy grounded her for a moment, before only serving to remind her that things were certainly not normal right now, and that they might never be again if things didn’t go well. Dread seeped back in as quickly as it had disappeared, and Chloe carefully pulled her hand away as she spoke up, “Do you think they’ve...hurt her?”
“You mean because they’re ‘vampires’?” Lucifer questioned, using his hands to make air quotes around the word. “I doubt it.” She could tell that he was being honest with her, he truly didn’t think that they’d done anything to her little girl. At least not yet. “They don’t actually need to drink blood to survive. It’s just something they enjoy...a cult, almost.”
Chloe cringed at the explanation, suddenly thankful for the fact that Lucifer seemed absolutely certain that she would never step a foot in hell. “That’s disgusting.” She muttered under her breath, an involuntary shudder climbing up her spine at the thought of it all being for ‘fun’.
“It’s a thing in hell,” Lucifer replied simply, only giving a slight shrug as he traced a finger over the granite countertop. “Even Maze and I gave it a try once or twice…” He murmured a moment later, continuing to trace invisible patterns with his finger as though he hadn’t said something that would send most normal people into a state of shock.
“You’re joking…” Chloe huffed, trying at a poor attempt of dismal humor as she stared at her boyfriend, waiting for him to break into a grin and laugh at how gullible she was.
“You remember when we first partnered up, the Benny Choy case.” Lucifer offered, his eyes drifting up to meet hers.
“What about it?” She asked, trying to figure out what that case had to do with anything.
“How do think I knew that the puddle of blood on the ground wasn’t human?” He inquired curiously, and she remembered watching him swipe a finger through the dark red liquid before popping it into his mouth without a second thought before quickly remarking that the massive puddle of blood was ‘interestingly not human’. She also remembered the cringe she got the second she realized what he’d done, the way she’d silently asked herself if he understood how many diseases he could get from doing that.
“You…” Chloe faltered as she tried to figure out exactly how she felt about the new information. She knew that he hadn’t been a saint before they’d gotten together, but sometimes it threw her for a loop, hearing about the person he used to be back when he ran the underworld. Before she could even begin to think of a reply, the harsh shrill of a phone ringing broke the silence, making her jump in her seat.
The second the device went off Lucifer reached into his pocket, pulling out his phone and answering with a quick swipe. Chloe heard a muffled voice come from the other end just before Lucifer spoke, “Where?”. Her heart began beating faster in her chest as she realized that this phone call was probably about Trixie, or the things that had her. “Right now?” Lucifer asked as he stood up, earning a muffled response from his phone. “I’m on my way.” He hung up a second later, quickly tucking the slim device back into his pocket.
“Was that Maze?” Chloe asked as she stood up, stepping closer as her heart raced in her chest at the thought that they might have finally found her little girl.
Lucifer nodded his answer before quickly explaining, “The coven that took Beatrice has been located. I’m going to help Maze get her.”
Chloe nodded at his words, quickly scooping her jacket off of the back of the stool as she tugged it on. “I’m coming with you.”
Lucifer reached a hand out, placing it on her shoulder as he shook his head softly. “Detective, it’s too risky.” Chloe shrugged his hand off as she tried not to let her annoyance get the best of her. She was tired of being told that everything was too risky. She was an officer, she could take care of herself, even if the threat wasn’t exactly human. She wasn’t about to let Lucifer kick her out of the rescue operations just like Maze had been doing every single time she’d tried to check in with the woman.
“She is my daughter, Lucifer.” Chloe’s voice was stern as she spoke, leaving no room for argument as she stepped closer to him, tilting her head up to stare at him as she added, “I’m coming.”
For a moment she thought that Lucifer was going to argue with her, but when his eyes drifted away first she knew that she’d already won. “Very well…” He sighed, running a hand through his unruly hair as his eyes met hers once more. She let out a soft breath of relief at the small triumph, but his next words quickly squashed her spirits and sent a cold shiver prickling across her skin. “Bring your gun.”
------- The Corvette screeched to a stop outside of the dilapidated warehouse, and Chloe shivered on the thought that her daughter had spent the last three days in a condemned business district. The place felt ominous, broken windows, peeling paint, and narrow roads all deserted of any signs of life. She glanced over at Lucifer, watching him size up their surroundings with a steely sort of calculation that she rarely saw him employ.
“What’s she doing here?” Maze’s voice cutting through the eerie silence made Chloe jump in her seat, and she quickly shifted in her seat to glance behind her only to find the demon standing behind the car with her arms folded across her chest looking anything but pleased.
“I’m here to help,” Chloe answered as she got out of the car, watching as Maze’s scowl only grew more prominent at her answer.
“You’re a liability.” The woman grit out, and Chloe tried not to take offense. She knew that she was a little out of her element here, it wasn’t every day that she walked into a vampire lair, but she couldn’t stand by idly while her daughter was living in this nightmare.
“Trixie is my daughter.” Chloe defended. Maze had kept her out of the ‘rescue operations’ from the start, and she was tired of it. She belonged here. Her daughter would need her as soon as they found her.
“Leave it, Maze.” Lucifer’s voice broke the silence as he got out of the car and approached his arch-demon. “Chloe can take care of herself.” A flicker of doubt washed over Maze’s face for a moment, and Chloe realized that Maze didn’t want her here because she thought she would slow them down or get in the way, but rather the woman was worried that she was going to get hurt. Her mask of indifference slipped firmly into place a moment later, and she reached behind her before quickly pulling out two of her demon blades.
“Here.” She offered, holding one of the shimmering black knives out to Lucifer. He took the offered blade from her hand carefully, twirling it between his fingers as it cut through the air with ease.
“Shall we?” He asked simply, glancing over at Mazikeen and earning a wide, devious smile from the woman as she nodded her agreement. The two of them made their way toward the building with long, determined strides, leaving Chloe to follow behind them. She almost protested before realizing that they were probably making sure that she was behind them for a reason. As much as she hated to admit it, she knew that they were both right; she was putting her self at risk here, but it was for someone she loved, it was worth it.
When they finally made it to the building Lucifer ripped the rusty chain from the partially unhinged door as though it was made out of paper mache, and Chloe couldn't help but flinch back slightly from the noise. She doubted that she'd ever get used to his displays of supernatural strength. Maze kicked the door in with ease, sending it careening from its single remaining hinge as it clattered to the ground loudly.
The two devilish features stalked into the dark warehouse as though it was their natural habitat. Chloe followed after them, pulling her gun from the waistband of her pants as she glanced around the dark building. It took a moment for her eyes to adjust to the gloom, and when they did she could barely make out the toppled shelving units and huge crates stacked all around, making ominous shapes and providing plenty of room for all sorts of nefarious creatures to hide. Lucifer paused for a moment, drawing in a long breath before making a noise that Chloe could only relate to a growl.
“I know you’re in here.” His voice rang out, echoing ominously through the abandoned warehouse. Chloe held her breath for a long moment, waiting for something to happen. When a few beats of silence passed she began to relax slightly, until a grating scrabbling noise sounded from deeper in the warehouse, immediately sending her into high alert. “Come out. Now.” Lucifer ordered, stalking deeper into the warehouse as Maze followed directly behind him. Chloe stood frozen in her spot as they started to move away from her, until the scrabbling started up again, closer this time. She quickly hurried over to Maze, knowing that the woman wouldn't let anything happen to her if she could stop it. “Or do you really want to anger your Lord further?” Lucifer's voice rang out once more, louder this time, angrier.
The scrambling started up again, directly to Chloe's right, and both her and Maze whirled around to face the sound. A few tense seconds passed in silence before an unnatural voice broke the silence, the words slurred together and choppy, “My Liege.” The sound of it reverberated through the room, and Chloe practically swore that she could feel it in the ground. “It’s you.” The voice added, and Chloe desperately wished that she could tell where it was coming from, it felt like it was pressing in from all sides.
Maze quickly tapped her arm a half-second later, gesturing to the space in front of Lucifer, and that was when Chloe saw it. The creature was peeking out from behind a stack of wooden crates, only a sliver of its body visible, but what Chloe could see was enough to make her blood run cold. The demon looked smooth, shimmering black skin stretched over its frame. Long, clawed fingers dug into the crates it was hiding behind. Its limbs were unnaturally long and thin, and it was huge, it easily stood several feet taller than Lucifer even from this distance. Huge, amber eyes peered out at them, and beneath those, it had an unnaturally wide mouth that was overcrowded with long, needle-sharp teeth. The demon even had a long tail that kept flicking back and forth, almost lizard-like.
Chloe never realized just how wrong human interpretations were of vampires.
“It is me,” Lucifer answered as he stepped forward, seemingly unafraid of the lumbering creature standing before him. “You have something of mine.” He continued, stopping a few feet away from the demon as his voice grew more dangerous. “I want it back.” The words were growled, and Chloe was amazed by the stark contrast between the Lucifer that watched animated movies with her and her daughter and the one that was standing before her currently, commanding a creature that even her worst nightmares couldn't conjure up. She was suddenly struck with the thought that this wasn't her Lucifer, this was the lord of hell.
“The young one...” The creature trailed off as it slowly abandoned it's hiding spot, stepping out from behind the crates with an unnerving amount of grace for its awkward body. Chloe instinctually raised her gun a bit and flipped off the safety, something primal urging her to prepare to be attacked. The vampire glanced over her at the sound of the safety clicking off, its eyes fixating on her as it tilted it's head to the side slightly, examining her.
“Yes. The young one.” Lucifer confirmed, drawing the demons gaze away from her. “She wasn’t yours to take. Now hand her over.” The words were an order, one that dared to be disobeyed.
The demon blinked at him almost owlishly before it replied, “I cannot do that, my Liege.” It was then that Chloe realized that the thing wasn't actually talking, it's mouth never seemed to open. Instead, it was almost as though it was just willing its voice into existence. The thought made her shiver and she unconsciously shied closer to Maze.
“You can, and you will.” Lucifer grit out, the patients quickly draining from his voice as he dared to step closer to the hulking behemoth.
“We mean her no harm. She will be...well provided for.” The vampire defended as it turned slightly, stepping back and putting some space between it and Lucifer. At least it seemed to fear the devil. That was probably the only thing they had going for themselves at the moment.
“She’s a child.” Lucifer snarled pressing forward and forcing the creature back.
“The new master wants her.” The vampire's voice rang out, and Chloe froze at the words. This whole time, the reason her baby had been taken from her was because whatever thing was running hell now wanted her? For what?
“He can’t have her,” Lucifer stated as the twirled the demon blade in his hand around, dragging the demon's eyes down to the glinting bit of metal.
“I cannot defy his wishes.”
“You cannot defy my wishes.” Lucifer snarled in response, and she could tell that he was bristling with fury, his eyes sparkling red as he gestured at the creature with the blade in his hand. “Get her.” He ordered sternly, and for the first time since she found out that he was the literal devil, she found herself actually scared of the man standing in front of her. She was just thankful that she wasn't at the receiving end of his wrath. “Now!" Lucifer final command rang through the room, echoing back at them for a moment before a soft scuffling sound came from Chloe's right.
Before she even knew what was happening Maze was pushing her towards Lucifer, whirling around with her blade in hand as another vampire descended on the spot where she'd just been standing. The creature hissed as it swiped at Maze, a grating sound that made Chloe's ears ring. The demon easily evaded the blow, and when it lunged for the arch-demon a second time her blade caught it between the ribs. The creature let out an ear-splitting shriek as it crumpled in on itself, one long, clawed hand reaching out for Chloe before the Detective aimed and fired.
Three successive shots came from the gun, the shells pinging against the concrete floor as each bullet hit its intended target. Two of the bullets hit the creature in the face, and one of them in the shoulder as it crumpled against the concrete unmoving, its clawed hand twitching slightly as a thick pool of blood that was dork it was almost black wept out from under it. Chloe glanced at Lucifer as she wondered if it was dead, but his gaze remained locked on the vampire he'd been speaking with.
Chloe connected the dots with ease. That had been an attempt at a distraction. They were trying to pick her off because she was the weakest, and in doing so, they might distract Lucifer enough to gain the upper hand. Chloe looked back over at the defeated vampire as Maze ripped her kife out of its body with a sickening squelch.
“The new master just wishes to be like you, my liege.” The vampire standing before the devil spoke up once more, as though one of his kind hadn't just been killed before his eyes. “He wishes to have her as you have yours.” The creature continued, lifting a spindly arm as it pointed at her. Chloe shivered at the implications of the vampire's words before it added, "Humans make for lovely pets."
“My human isn't a pet.” Lucifer ground out, and Chloe barely caught a hint of movement out of her peripheral vision. Before she could open her mouth to warn him, the distinct form that could only be the third vampire shot out at her boyfriend. The massive beast collided into his back, throwing him off balance and toppling him to the ground as Chloe cried out. She was helpless to do anything but watch as the vampire that had been talking to them quickly tried to join it's peer. Maze just barely managed to catch it in time, blocking what could have been a lethal swipe of its clawed hand.
A blinding flash of light filled the warehouse a split second later, and Chloe didn't register that it was Lucifer's wings manifesting themselves until he flung the vampire that had ambushed him off as though it weighed nothing. The creature shattered through several wooden crates before the building shook, and Chloe realized that he must have flung it into one of the support beams. At the same time Maze dodged several blows from the first vampire before she managed to catch it with her blade, slicing deep into one of its arms.
The vampire shrieked before launching itself past Maze, making to attack Lucifer as he quickly lifted a wing to defend himself. The creature collided against the wall of white feathers with a sickening sizzling sound, the smell of searing flesh filling the room as it tried to claw its way through the thick shield of feathers. Maze took advantage of the opportunity, launching herself at the creature and managing to hook her blade around its neck, slicing through its neck as though the creature were made out of soft butter. The vampire's shrieks turned into sickening gurgles as it collapsed against the ground, a pool of blood ebbing from its body.
Maze let out a disgusted grunt as she kicked the vampire's lifeless body and Lucifer slowly dropped his wing down to his side. Giving Maze a nod of thanks as his arch-demon stepped past him without a word. Chloe carefully stepped closer, doing her best not to step in the thick pool of blood on the floor as she approached her boyfriend's side, resting a hand against his forearm as she took a look at his bloodied wing. She reached out to examine the damage before Lucifer stopped her, his hand catching her's before she could touch the damaged skin.
"They're venomous." He explained softly, releasing her hand as it drifted back down to her side. "You shouldn't touch. At least I have a reasonable immunity built up to it." Chloe nodded mutely at his explanation, opening her mouth as she tried to think of how the right way to ask him if he was okay but she didn't get the chance before Maze came back. The demon dragged the only remaining vampire behind her, her hand wrapped around its long tail as she pulled it through the debris littering the floor as though it weighed no more than a sack of flour.
“What should I do with it?” She asked as she released her hold on its tail, the unconscious creature lying in an unconscious heap on the floor. “It’s the last one.”
Lucifer stared at its motionless form for a long moment before fixing Maze with his gaze. “You’re hell’s most skilled torturer.” He stated simply, rolling his shoulders as he tucked his wings away in one fluid motion. “Put your skills to work.” He stated simply, and the grin that Maze gave him was sinister, filled with too many teeth. The next words out of her roommate's mouth were enough to make goosebumps sprout on Chloe's neck.
“With pleasure.”
---------
Chloe watched as the vampire pinned down before her coughed up more blood. It's been nearly thirty minutes since Maze had found an industrial grade nail gun in the warehouse, and had quite literally nailed the creature to one of the massive wooden crates to secure it in place while she forced information out of it. Chloe might feel a little empathy if it wasn't for everything these vampires had done to her, to Lucifer, to her daughter who was still missing. Her and Lucifer had scoured the warehouse for any sign of the girl when Maze had started her 'advanced interrogation' and they hadn't found a single thing that helped them.
The vampire whimpered as Maze drew her knife across its chest once again, adding another shallow gash to the myriad of marks already crisscrossed across its chest.
“Where is she?” Lucifer growled as he paced back and forth before the vampire, his patience had worn thin a while ago, and Chloe could tell that if he didn't need information from the vampire he'd have killed it himself a while ago. When the creature refused to answer he let out a long growl, digging a lighter out of his pocket before tossing it at Maze. His arch-demon caught the lighter out of the air, a toothy grin splitting her face as Lucifer's voice broke the quiet. “Maze."
The demon lit the lighter a moment later, red-orange flame licking up from the device as she lifted her demon blade, holding it over the flame as she heated it up. The vampire started to squirm as it watched her, and even Chloe tried not to let it get to her. A few minutes passed before the blade was glowing red hot, and Maze let the lighter flick off. She approached the vampire a moment later, grinning as the creature thrashed back and forth in a vain attempt to escape what was going to come next.
Chloe looked away when the sizzling sound of burning flesh filled the air, gritting her teeth as the creature let out a pained shriek.
“She’s in the abandoned warehouse, across the street.” The vampire's voice reverberated through the air. And Chloe snapped her head up as she stared at the beaten and bloodied creature. “Please...spare me…”
Lucifer's hand was wrapping around her arm and dragging her from the building as he spoke up, “I’ll go get her, don’t kill him.” Maze nodded her agreement as she stepped back from her work.
“Do you think he’s telling the truth?” Chloe asked breathlessly as she tried her best to keep up with Lucifer's long strides as they quickly exited the warehouse.
“We’re about to find out,” Lucifer answered as they crossed the narrow alley, approaching the slightly smaller warehouse. The door was chained and padlocked just like the first one, and just like before, Lucifer made quick work of the lock before opening the door.
The moment that light flooded into the warehouse a chorus of desperate voices broke the silence. “Help!” Chloe cringed at the sounds of suffering emanating from the building as she stepped inside. “Oh, God. Help, please!”
She froze in place as she took in her surroundings. Massive cages held small groups of humans, all of the dirty, bloodied, wearing tattered clothes. She even recognized a few of them, victims of the cold homicide cases her department had been getting recently. “What…” Chloe latched onto Lucifer's forearm with a death tight grip as she forced herself not to hyperventilate. “Lucifer…” She breathed as she tried not to panic. Her daughter was here somewhere. Her precious baby had spent the last three days in this God-forsaken building.
“Feeders,” Lucifer answered her unspoken question as he started forward, pulling out from her grip as though she hadn't been clinging to him for dear life.
“You find Beatrice,” Lucifer ordered as he ripped the padlock holding one of the cages closed off, freeing the people inside. “I’ll release them.” Chloe nodded her agreement as she started through the building, walking past at least a dozen caged people, all in varying states of health and abuse. She started to grow desperate as she passed cage after cage that didn't have her daughter in it.
Her eyes finally settled on a small form huddled in the corner of one of the furthest cages. “Trixie!” She shouted as she sprinted forward, colliding against the unyielding metal as tears threatened to spill from her eyes. “Trixie, baby!”
The small huddled form perked up at the sound of her voice, and the girl quickly stood up and rushed towards her as her small, scared voice broke the quiet. “Mommy?”
Chloe nearly sobbed at the sound of her daughter's voice as she fell to her knees just outside of the cage. “Trixie?” She quickly looked over her daughter, she appeared to be mostly unharmed, her clothes and face were smeared with dirt, but otherwise, she didn't seem that much worse for wear. “Oh, Trixie.” Chloe breathed as she reached into the cage, wrapping her arms around the girl as she pressed herself against the side of the cage, sobs beginning to rack her tiny frame. “Lucifer!” Chloe shouted out into the warehouse, as tears began to prick at her eyes. “It’s okay baby. I’m here now. You’re safe.” Chloe murmured reassuringly as she brushed a hand over her daughter's matted hair soothingly.
“I just want to go home.” Trixie sobbed and Chloe forced herself not to break down right alongside her daughter. Lucifer jogged over a moment later, easily undoing the padlock and pulling the cage door open. Chloe pulled away from her daughter for a split-second only to rush inside without a second thought, falling to her knees once again as she pulled her daughter against her chest as the girl sobbed into her shirt.
“I’m here now. You’re safe.” Chloe breathed as she pressed her face into her daughter's hair, her muscles going lax with relief. “You’re safe.” Chloe murmured again, a promise to her daughter that nothing would ever lay a finger on her without facing her wrath, and without facing the wrath of the devil himself.

ONE YEAR LATER
“Look mom! I finished my pumpkin!” Trixie’s triumphant voice rang through the house as she stood up, wiping orange gunk from her hands.
“What did you do?” Chloe asked curiously as she looked up from her own half-finished jack-o-lantern.
“A vampire!” The girl exclaimed proudly, swiveling the pumpkin around until Chloe could see the figure with sharp pointed teeth etched into the pumpkins orange flesh.
“What?” Chloe questioned, automatically going on high-alert as she thought back to the incident that occurred last year. “Why?”
Trixie fidgeted under the weight of the question for a moment before she finally found her voice, “Linda told me that if something scares you...sometimes you need to face it head-on in order to move forward.” Chloe held in a soft sigh at the admission, her heart silently breaking for her daughter as she tried to figure out how exactly to comfort her.
“That’s very grown up of you, Beatrice,” Lucifer spoke up before Chloe could find the right words to say. “You do know that you’re safe though. Right?” She could hear the concern in her now-husbands voice as he asked, and Trixie nodded along immediately.
“I know.” The response was simple but overwhelmingly genuine. “I have you, and Maze, and Stormy.” She explained, gesturing to the massive hellhound that laid a few feet away, the creature had become a staple fixture in their house ever since the vampire incident. And as much as the creature had scared her at first, it hadn’t taken him long to grow on her, especially once she saw how great he was with her daughter. “But sometimes I still get scared,” Trixie admitted quietly, almost as though she were ashamed to admit it. “I’m tired of being scared.”
Chloe’s heart broke for her daughter a second time, but once again, Lucifer beat her to the punch. “Give yourself time.” He offered softly. “Someday you’ll barely even remember it.” Trixie nodded softly at his advice, worrying her lower lip between her teeth as she stared at the ground. Thankfully, the girl didn’t have to think over his words for very long before the hellhound picked itself up from the floor, making it’s way over to her pumpkin before quickly snatching the lid and running off with it. Even the ‘dog’ seemed to feel as though Trixie needed a break from her worries.
“Hey!” She exclaimed, quickly taking chase after the hellhound as she shouted, “That’s mine!” Chloe chuckled as she watched her daughter chase Stormy around the house, but as her smile faded her gaze drifted back to the pumpkin sitting in front of her.
Chloe stared at the cartoonish caricature of a vampire that was carved into her daughter’s pumpkin for a long moment. Trying her best to ignore the icy chill of dread that seeped into her bones. She glanced over at the devil and he quickly offered her a warm smile that managed to soothe her nerves. She returned her attention to the half-finished carving of a devil on her pumpkin as she silently thanked God that nothing had happened to her daughter over the latest year.
But more than anything, she was just thankful that they had their very own, devil, demon, hellhound trio to keep them safe from the things that go bump in the night.

Hello, friend! It is I, your spOOky Halloween exchange fic writer! XD I've been told your prompt - do you have any further guidance for me as to what you'd like to see? Feel free to be as specific as you like - this is a gift for you, after all - a chance for you to get a fic exactly the way you want it without having to write it! I look forward to working with you. Happy Halloween!!
Hello spOOky buddy! :D It's so nice to hear from you! Those prompt were pretty weird weren't they? Lol. I don't even remember what one was randomly generated by my username. If you wanted to disregard the prompt and write whatever you came up with I would be fine with that!
Hmm, further guidance. I mean, I love Deckerstar, I'm a fan of Laze. Lucifer as 'StepSatan' always makes my day. I don't mind gore, or smut. I love gritty dark fics, and funny lighthearted ones. If you wanted to write a Deckerstar 'family fic' of them all going to a pumpkin patch, or Lucifer and Chloe getting roped into going to a haunted house, or even something darker where Hell is involved, then by all means go for it! (I'm really not picky).
Basically, I guess what I'm saying is that I have faith in your abilities my spOOky buddy! Let your imagination run wild! You don't have to follow the prompt if you have a great idea, if you find another prompt you like more or if you have a neat idea then go for it!
