SHH. Going to tell you a secret: I made a video game and then didn't tell anyone. Well, more of a demo/proof-of-concept (complete with bugs and collision issues!).

Down The Eye Of The Tiger is a dream diary-genre game made in Rpgmaker MV over the course of roughly 2 months and some change as part of Dream Diary Jams 6 & 7. My plan is to keep working on it sporadically whenever I feel like doing pixel art (read: often enough and with excruciating intensity) until it's done.

Hopefully my next update will have more of the "narrative" implemented; in this release I was just trying to make sure that everything I had put in-engine was technically accessible to players.

If anyone's interested in seeing alerts on development, I'll be posting future updates/commentary type stuff over at @downtheeyeofthetiger.

Dream Diary Jam 7!

Jam runs from May 15th, 2023 to June 26th, 2023. You can join before or during those dates!

Welcome newcomers and veterans to Dream Diary Jam 7, a game jam all about the creation of fangames for the cult classic RPG Maker 2003 game Yume Nikki. The goal is to create a Yume Nikki fangame, a demo of one, or to even update one of your previous entries. You’ll be given 6 weeks to work on your fangame, starting on May 15th and ending on the June 26th — Yume Nikki’s 19th anniversary.

Submission types:

Traditional Yume Nikki Fangame - The most common type of fangame. Typically follows the same formula/style as the original Yume Nikki, but with an original cast of characters and environments, and sometimes new mechanics. You can get as experimental as you want!

Examples of this type include: .flow, Yume 2kki, Lcd Dem, and Answered Prayers

A Fangame of the Yume Nikki setting - A fangame that uses the characters/settings of the original Yume Nikki, rather than a new original cast. Think something along the lines of fanfiction. This can be any kind of genre, JRPG, dating sim, clicker, etc. You can even make a fangame of YUME NIKKI -DREAM DIARY- if you want to.

Examples of this type include: NASU Plus, Memories of Replica, Dream Kombat, and Yume Nikki Hazard

An update to a previous submission - Didn’t get to make as much as you wanted in a previous jam? Need an excuse to work on your fangame? Don’t want to start anew? This is for you! If you can provide a substantial update to one of your previous entries, then it’s also an acceptable submission, even if you’ve been chipping away at it outside of the jams.

Progress on my entry for DDJ7

Or should I say... #1 progress?

For the jam I'm working on a thing based on Dedf1sh's backstory with the working title "Dead Zone" (Named after the ecological term for hypoxic oceans)

The pic here isn't actually in-game yet. It's more of me just testing palettes and planning the layout of the "real-world" room.

Dream Diary Jam 7 Devlog (WEEK 1)

hi guys! i am participating in ddj and will be (hopefully) making a little update post for all of the six weeks that it lasts for my game in hazy clouds! =D

(note: i have renamed it, the previous title was clouding-999)

so the first thing i did of course was overhaul my previous work, though not all of it as there are still some maps. i also added effect effects?) for equipping and de-quipping.

something notable is fairutsuki's apartment!

the nexus is also a line now, and i have added a room where you can listen to certain music, though it is not done.

now most importantly, the new stuff!

well ive been working on a bunch of new worlds, though i feel like i shouldnt show all of them, as theres too much to cover and it would be kind of spoilery. soo here is the highlights :-)

foliage world, a new nexus path (ignore the WIP mushroom)

an abandoned-looking town....?

the new and improved mall featuring..... ESCALATORS!=?!?noway! she is zooming to an unprecedented level.

we also got a city (the majority of houses will have weird stuff in them :D)

i was pretty exhausted this week too, its probably the least progress i've made, but thats fine i guess

the main thing! i have finished one of the two endings, didnt have time to make the secret one but i can reuse a lot of stuff for it so itll probably fine

well, i still made a fair amount of progress this week around though!

yeah, what did i do...?

UM.. most of the stuff i worked on this week was the environments and npcs. are they done now? no, but i'd say more than halfway there!

the second collectible, music boxes, have been added!

OK this week i did very little stuff because i was sort of tired but the great news is that i have added all of the maps that are supposed to be there, as well as the collectibles, which means technically you could beat the game now! except the endings, which don't exist, but i will make those next week

hello everyone. as you all know )?= its the last week of dream diary jam 2023 or 7.

yes its true its the final one, the one week left to go one. its time to... finish in hazy clouds (again)

also this is the last devlog for this year so its extra special.

i have polished almost all of the maps, except some which not really. oops
