From sketch to costume: the Darkling

Allow me to present my big cosplay project: the Darkling from the Grishaverse book series. I admit I’m not that fond of his TV show costume so book cosplay it is!

Made from wood blend, viscose lining, 20 meters of soutache braiding and 10 meters of the gold hem ribbon.

I went for fantasy-ish decorative embroidery in order to avoid being mistaken for an existing uniform. All hand sewn with love (and lot of frustration.

The makeup is not included.

I’m absolutely delighted to present you with my finished #darkling cape and tunic. All that remains now is the other belt sash (a very beautiful moiré fabric that looks like made of shadows themselves) and maybe a headpiece? Not sure what to use. I’m beyond proud of this creation and I finally learned the basics of tailoring and combined them with my “sewing intuition”. I particularly enjoyed the work with intricate braiding and I like the final results.
