Darktober 11-12

"September 13, 2019

My name is Victoria Winters.

I have no idea how to start this entry.

Everything that has happened... Did it really happen? It seems as real as that dream from last night. But I look at my hand, see the bruises on my wrist and scrapes all over my hand, and... Well, it did happen, didn't it? I have the aches to prove it.

Okay. First.

I've been trying to meet David properly all weekend, right? Get to know him at least a little bit, before we start homeschooling on Monday. But he's gotten very good at avoiding me. He didn't even respond to me at meals, which the household all eats together in the dining room. He disappears the second the plates are cleared. Can't say I'm surprised, but I was dreading the awkward lessons on Monday.

Then, today, Sunday, a big storm blew in, and the power went out.

"Don't worry," Mz. Collins said. "This happens every so often in the winter. We'll turn on the generator if the power doesn't come back by tonight." She looked out the window, and her eyebrows furrowed slightly - an expression I've come to recognize as deep concern on her usually stoic face.

"Victoria..." She stopped, hesitating. Then, she sighed, and said, "I'm so sorry, but would you be able to go out and find David?""

Since there are at least two other vampire!Sunmoon aus, im going to start tagging mine with “dark shadows au” as well as “vamp au”. Both because of the fic being titled “Family Found in Darkest Shadows” and as an obscure pop culture reference to an old soap opera called, well, “Dark Shadows” where the main character was a vampire.

Stygian might be my favorite of the Pillars of Equestria and it's always made me sad that he wasn't used more in the show. So I decided to team up with my new friend Orin who's taken the time to make a bunch of amazing Pillar redesigns (same person I made this Starswirl animation rig for as a gift) that i'll be incorporating into my future animation project simply titled the "Tree of Harmony AU" at the moment until I can come up with a better name. The Pillars are very important characters to Harmony's story so I wanna do them justice. Listed below is some context for these sketches provided by my friend Orin and some written bits from myself. This is a Stygian who's been separated from the Pony of Shadows for some time, but is now dealing with the consequences of dark magic. I've had so much fun throwing ideas back and forth for this AU and I can't wait to share more in the near future.

The Pony of Shadows is not so easily purged, even with the combined strength of the past and present Elements of Harmony. A fragment of the shadow lives on in Stygian, inextricably bound to him, but small enough that it can no longer influence him. He has abilities superficially similar to King Sombra's, albeit on a much smaller scale, and definitely needs practice before he can comfortably wield this new strength.

The lingering dark magic corruption from Stygian's time with the shadow is visible on different parts of his body, mainly his eyes when using magic, some discoloration on the inside of his mouth and tongue, and his magic color.

As Stygian exerts better control of the fragment of shadow still attached to him, he eventually gains the ability to "Shadow Walk" or travel between shadows. This temporary form makes him look eerily similar to the Pony of Shadows. Pretty spooky.

Princess Luna ends up becoming Stygian's new mentor to help him gain better control of his magic corruption since she has direct experience with dark magic when she turned into Nightmare Moon.

Stygian's special talent is writing. His autobiography, Me and My Shadow, was an instant hit not just because he's a pony from a time long passed, but because he's a genuine wordsmith. Stygian redesign by Orin331

Darktober 8

"... The attic room is, as Mz. Collins promised, very comfortable. It might just be the most comfortable room I've ever slept in, actually.

Granted, my basis for comparison is negligible, to say the least. But I dare anyone to say a big bed, fresh sheets and blankets, a clean new rug and a view of the ocean isn't cozy.

Of course, I'm writing all this as I'm struggling to fall asleep in this wonderfully comfy, fresh-smelling bed with the window looking out over the ocean beside me.

The attic doesn't scare me. Old rooms, new places, living with strangers, none of that has scared me since... I don't actually remember a time when I was ever scared of those things.

No, there's something else. I can't say what it is, exactly. It feels like... There's something waiting. A person, an event, I don't know. But there's a sense of hiding, waiting, in the air. And if I blink, much less fall asleep, I'm going to miss it.

Or it's going to get me."
