I’ve seen many Precure tournaments on this website, but none dedicated to one of the most catchy aspects of Precure: it’s music!

Welcome to the Pretty Cure Opening Showdown, where every single Precure OP will go head to head, to see which song is most beloved!

I matched every OP chronologically, except in cases where I needed some minor rearranging to make sure an OP was pitted against its alternate version in the first round, and the English OPs were grouped together at the end. You’ll also notice a three way split between The Great Pretty Cure Gathering and it’s two alternate versions, Light of Hope and Flower of Life, both because of an otherwise uneven number and also to condense each song into it’s Best Version before everyone really starts duking it out.

Linked songs will be their TV edits, as they would be heard before an episode/movie, and wherever possible I’ll embed the OP itself, not just audio.

Rating the Seasons - Futari Wa

So as I have been watching each season I have been rating different aspects of it and giving an overall rating. I thought I'd share my thoughts and see what other's think. This post is about Futari Wa, not including Max heart. I rated the seasons separately however I do give both seasons 2 bonus points to their overall rating for being the pioneers of the show. Respect your elders and all that jazz.

Futari Wa Pretty Cure

Plot: 6/10

So far the plot has been pretty average

The stones have been stolen and only two remain and the precure have to defeat the enemies and get the other 5 back

I enjoyed the side plot about Honoka and Kiriya’s friendship/borderline romance

I hate that the queen doesn’t open her eyes or move her mouth

Feels like cheap animation

I don’t like how the bad guys got the power of the stones back, seemed cheap

Cures: 7/10

Cure black (Nagisa)

Sporty

Self absorbed

Food focused

Kinda basic

Cure white (Honoka)

More depth

Demure

Intelligent

Well rounded

Fairies: 6/10

Mepple

Kinda annoying

Not a huge fan

Very self absorbed

Overly hyper and whiny

Slowly growing on me

I like mipple and mepple’s little romance story with each other

Villians: 5/10

Very 90’s esque

Pisard looks like david bowie from the labyrinth

I like Kiriya’s story arch

Everyone else was kinda one note and forgettable

The 3 new villains are slightly more interesting

The woman is kinda weird in her human form, she seems to not want to be evil, she seems depressed and exhausted

Magical Items: 4/10

Not a fan of the whole cell phone and cards idea

Seems very impractical

Not a fan that they can only transform when together and can only make attacks when holding hands

Only having 2 different attacks is kind of boring.

Pollun gives them a new power which I like but I think it is dumb that he has to give it to them each transformation instead of it being permanent

Overall Season Rating: 8/10

The average of all the ratings make it a 6/10 but it gets 2 extra points for being the first of the series

Hello! Would there be any interest in translating the GBA "Pretty Cure" platform games + "Max Heart" beat 'em all for the DS? They're from a popular magical girl series (think Dragon Ball Z + Sailor Moon + Kamen Rider) that will be turning 20 years old in 2024. All games after "Max Heart" are mini-game collections that are aimed towards young girls, but the aforementioned games are solid fun experiences that can be enjoyed by anyone, and have unique stories that don't show in the anime.

Pretty Cure games… That would be Futari wa Precure: Arienai! Yume no Kuni wa Daimeikyuu and Futari wa Precure Max Heart: Maji? Maji!? Fight de IN Janai on GBA, and Futari wa Precure Max Heart: Danzen! DS de Precure - Chikara wo Awasete Dai Battle on DS.

It looks like there's a full (dialogue) translation of Maji Maji! Fight de IN Janai with detailed notes here, which is certainly very interesting. I couldn't find any evidence of previous translation attempts for the other two.
