there's something so sacred and special to me about jackie doing misty's makeup in doomscoming. like, she didn't even like her and you'd think she'd be too obsessed with shauna to care about anyone else, but when I remember how sweet she was to misty and it also makes me think. . .

this isn't the only time we see how nice jackie is. we see it when she interacts with shauna throughout the first few episodes, when she pushes van out of the way, and when she tries and comforts allie in the first episode.

it makes me think about the jackieshauna fight, and at the time I understood where shauna was coming from because she was angry and she made some good points, but also. . . she completely misunderstood jackie? like jackie made shauna her whole universe, but shauna for some reason believes jackie wants her in her shadow? in her dreams/hallucinations about jackie she makes her so mean, when that's not how jackie treated her at all?

and this might be me overthinking jackie's character, but I always saw her doing those controlling things (like picking her dress, choosing their dorm colours) as misinterpretations of shauna. like she just thought that's what shauna wanted, so she wanted it. (this might be a stretch, because it's based off my belief that jackie left the cabin and wanted to die because she thought shauna hated her and wanted her gone.)

especially when you think about the fact jackie dreams of shauna in such a sweet way, having shauna give her hot cocoa, make her nice and warm, tell her "you know you're my best friend, right?" and I find it fascinating. they really saw each other in such different ways to how they acted. because i've never really seen shauna treat jackie that way before except for her dying dream sequence.

part of me wonders if I missed stuff about jackie and shauna's characters or if shauna was punishing jackie because she needed to take her guilt over betraying her best friend out on her??

yellowjackets as taylor swift albums (I'm bored). this became deeper than I meant for it to go OMG. whoops, anyways, enjoy:

1. tai: reputation. oh my god this girl is soooo in love with van, and at the end of the day, that's what reputation is. a love album. yeah it's got a little revenge in it, but overall, it's about being in love with someone who was there for you at your most vulnerable. and who's always been there for tai, adult AND teen timeline? VAN!

2. van: 1989! it's nostalgic, fun, iconic but still has the emotional rawness that flows throughout all of taylor's albums. everyone thinks 1989 is just heaps of fun, but it has this emotional intensity to it that once you look closer to it, you realise how much of a masterpiece it is. also, it just gives me van vibes tbh.

3. jackie: lover. she's so insecure about being in a relationship with who she thinks is the love of her life (shauna) in case she fucks it up (spoiler alert, she does). taylor also wrote this album as a last hurrah, to prove she had more stories to tell, and I think that ties in nicely to jackie's character. her insecurity forces her to try and prove herself to shauna, and show her best friend how much she loves her.

4. shauna: she's a red girlie. taylor's most emotionally raw album (besides ttpd) and she just gives the vibes. this is taylor's first heartbreak album (like how jackie's death was shauna's first heartbreak), and it's so intense that it takes a few listens to understand, but once you do, you realise it's an album about a girl with big heart learning how to recover from the devastation of losing someone she loves deeply.

5. lottie: folklore!! I love my little baby. this album was written in isolation, and you can definitely hear it in some of taylor's lyrics, and I just feel like that's lottie's character. the isolated girl who's held up to a higher standard than everyone else.

6. nat: ttpd. okay, i was tossing up between giving this to nat or travis, but then I remembered the adult timeline and went with nat. when I first heard this album, it reminded me of her purposeless speech. it's also an album where taylor was going through a manic phase, and if that isn't nat, I don't know what is. she's just lost the love of her life, and then she's kidnapped by lottie's cult and promised so many wonderful things, that she believes it—only for it to end in tragedy.

7. misty: she gives off such speak now vibes. she has so much she wants to prove, and she's reeling from being in love with a man much older than her.

8. travis: evermore. he's such a tragic little guy, that the album suits him. I really just think of happiness, marjorie and right where you left me because he's stuck in the past. he literally kills himself (accidentally I know, I know) because he's so trapped in the wilderness despite being free from it. this album has always given me: depressed sad, compared to its sister albume: folklore, which gives me angry sad. and while he's definitely more angry then lottie, he's got this deep sadness in him that echoes evermore.

9. mari: midnights. okay I don't know how to explain it better than this is how I interpret mari. she's the first to throw herself into believing lottie because she's scared and when I think of midnights, I think of how scared taylor was at losing her relationship and joe that she ignores her feelings. and mari ignores her feelings because if she really thinks about it, I don't think she'd be able to handle herself, i.e. being trapped in the woods, eating jackie.

10. javi: taylor swift (debut). just the innocence and naïvety of the album. it's her first album, she wrote and released at 15/16 so there's a lot of childish beliefs and hopes, which I think javi has—but there's still an underlying feeling of heartbreak. he tries to be a kid, but is still traumatised.

11. laura lee: fearless!! this is purely based on the album title. I mean, learning to fly a plane just to save her friends? this album is probably my least favourite, so you're not going to get a lot of analysis, but the few times I've listened to it, I understand it's about having faith things will work out (this might be wrong, but that's what I'm choosing to believe about it). and her faith makes her believe she can do anything, including save her friends. omg I love her so much <333

this might be an embarrassing realisation, but I was rewatching yj and was like "it's crazy to me how obsessed with coach ben misty was. I wonder who she'd be obsessed with in the adult timeline?" NAT. nat became her new coach ben. now I'm rewatching it, I can see the CLEAR parallels between teen misty's relationship with Ben and adult misty's relationship with natalie.

anyways, what this proves is that misty is in love with nat just like I thought she was!

idk if it was just me, but did anyone feel like season one was "oh, look how traumatised shauna is by jackie's death. look! jackie is haunting her 25 years later" and then season 2 she's seemingly forgotten about her? not one ghostly apparition telling her off. no living memory of her. nothing. . . like I get it, there were more things to worry about, and ella purnell was obviously leaving the show, but still? it feels very lazy tbh.

now what are YOUR controversial or unpopular opinions about yellowjackets? 🤭

1. I'm tired of everyone making jackieshauna the most important lesbian ship. I swear it's all like, 'look, look. yellowjackets are about lesbians! jackieshauna is proof. lottienat is so gay!' when taivan is literally there! and canon! like I get it, I love all those ships, but at the end of the day yj has two canonical sapphic ships and everyone ignores them.

2. misty and walter need to break up ASAP. I'm done with that plotline. like that's a full lesbian, stop making all her storylines revolve around men! let crystal's ghost haunt her! let nat's ghost haunt her! fuck walter!

3. I'm gonna need adult shauna to shut the fuck up sometimes. I love her, but OMG she says some rancid shit. especially to misty after everything that girl did for her (helping her deliver her dead baby, helping her get rid of her dead lovers corpse, etc.)

4. season three needs to be coach ben's last, they need to wrap his storyline up.

5. speaking of seasons, in an ideal world id watch a thousand seasons, but I don't see how they can make more than five. they're rushing through the timeline too quickly, unless they're gonna include after they are rescued. also, I fear for the next seasons because some of the writing went down hill this season (I still love it, but yeah, there were a few plotlines and scenes I went "what the fuck? do we need this? was this thought through?"). season 1 was just so good, it's hard to follow and I feel like a lot of season two didn't make sense because they had to change things for sensitivity reasons (like lottie's mental health copped a lot of backlash, so that might be the reason she wasn't as full on as season one).

as creepy as misty is with ben, he mishandled that shit. like clearly this isnt just an extreme crush, there's something wrong with misty (I'm not gonna pretend to know what it is) and instead of pretending to date her in secret, he should have sat her down and explained to her that they couldn't date and why. he's the only responsible adult they have and he treated this situation like he was a teenage boy.

also, he mishandles every situation actually, because why did he just let jackie sleep outside? why did he disassociate instead of help shauna give birth? why did he give the shittiest advice to all the girls? AND HE SET THE CABIN ON FIRE. ugh I hate him.

someone once said he was "the voice of reason" but no the fuck he wasn't. he was more unhinged then those girls.

the only use he ever had was giving travis those condoms and teaching them how to shoot deer. they should've eaten him instead of javi.
