i‘ve never been a big musical person but i stumbled on your blog by accident and all the stuff you post about seems like so much fun!! what are some of your favorites, or recommendations to ppl who aren’t familiar with them?
Omg hi!! I have been thinking about this for a hot minute believe me.
My PERSONAL favorite musicals are LIZZIE, Murder Ballad, and Don’t Stop Me at the moment.
LIZZIE is a punk rock musical loosely based on the historical murder trial of Lizzie Borden. It’s pretty intense, both musically and story-wise, so just know that I’m advance if you hope to listen to it.
Murder Ballad is a rock opera about an affair that goes very very wrong. It’s a relatively simple plot so it’s very easy to grasp just from listening to the album. The music is legitimately some of my favorite stuff ever. I would definitely recommend this for beginners, aside from some meta stuff with the narrator it’s not too confusing.
Don’t Stop Me is about the troubles of growing up as represented through a demonic high school danceathon. I wouldn’t recommend for a beginner solely because it’s like barely above lost media. If you’re willing to venture into the depths of 2000s era websites and unlisted yt videos I would be happy to show you how to listen to this cause it like changed my life but also it’s way too much effort lmao. (If you genuinely want to listen or watch this tho like dm me I can hook you up)
As for other recommendations for beginners:
Carrie. Oh my god everyone pls listen to Carrie. It’s based on the book, so if you have even a vague sense of the story it’s not hard to follow. Beautiful music, and if you want to dig deeper, the backstage drama has actually books and documentaries on it.
Hadestown. You’ve probably heard about it, it’s really popular lol. Based on the green myths of Hades and Persephone/Orpheus and Eurydice. Will make you feel every emotion ever and there’s a really big fan community if you want more content out of it.
36 Questions. This one is actually the most accessible, I think— it’s literally a podcast. It’s about a relationship ending very messily (I won’t say why— spoilers!!). Again, makes you feel so so many emotions. Plus if you like Jonathan Groff (he plays the guy) you can check out the quadrillion other things he’s in.

my OC Yang from the three-way OC art collab; sketched by me, lined by @cosmicarts and coloured by @tubapun!
OC info under the cut
Name: Yang Yun-seo
Age: 46
Personality: Capricious; generally pretty dry and sarcastic on a normal day but there's a quiet, mischievous chaos under the surface that shows every now and again, like if you were at a festival and you didn't know her, you'd expect her to snark at it, but no, she's getting her face painted and playing the games bc fuck it. She's a little rough on the edges but not like. in a scary way? You'd find her in alternative bars if she actually cared for bars. She's generally a homebody and has been kinda bored with life for the last 10 or so years, though she's been causing chaos here and there for most of her life - climbing things, pranking people, and so on. Generally she gets away with it but that's also partially through association with her much more influential friend Isabella who has put a fair bit of work into convincing people she's cool (even if she already is). Think Touya and Yukito from Cardcaptor Sakura. That's those two
Facts:
-She was able to see ghosts between ages 7 and 21. It freaked her out so badly that she forced herself to stop seeing them at 21, at the cost of no longer being able to dream, and also dealing w semifrequent headaches
-As mentioned above, doesn't care for crowded spaces, and lives by a river in the forest. She spends a lot of time just...wandering
-In the 28-hour danceathon Isabella hosts every year (and Yang helps set up), the longest Yang has made it is 22 hours. I don't think setting up helps her tbf but she sets up EVERY year despite Isabella telling her she can skip setup if she really wants a shot at the full 28

NEW YEARS EVE •   MEENA RAJA-MOORE
Given that Meena has already shown off a 1920s look back on Halloween, Meena decided to have more fun with her looks on New Years. Showing up to the Black Carpet, she styled a Cocoon Coat decked out in pearl fringe with a pearl embellished turban, pearl encrusted Jimmy Chos and a pearl fringed gown.
Only for her to later change into a diamond fringe ensemble for the Danceathon decked out with matching shoes and a moon headdress reminiscent of the showgirl looks of the time.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor: ‘I would have been cancelled if social media was around when I was a teenager’
The singer and songwriter, 43, talks Madonna, performing while pregnant and old-fashioned politeness
Tumblr media
Singer-songwriter Sophie Ellis-Bextor has been married to The Feeling bassist Richard Jones since 2005. The couple have five sons, Sonny, 17, Kit, 13, Ray, nine, Jesse, six, and Mickey, three. The daughter of Blue Peter presenter Janet Ellis, Sophie rose to fame in 2000 with Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love), followed by pop hits ¬Murder on the Dancefloor and Take Me Home. In November her 24-hour danceathon, inspired by her lockdown “kitchen discos”, raised £1 million for Children in Need.
Best childhood memory?
Being really little in the south of France with my mum and dad. I must have been three, because they split up when I was four. My grandparents had a caravan there, and I remember eating mussels and chips. My parents always encouraged me to ask for things myself in French, so I always felt quite grown-up in restaurants.
Best decision?
Groovejet was the song that changed my life. It freed up my brain in terms of how I saw my career. Before that, I’d been in an indie band, Theaudience, which was dropped. We signed the deal when I was sitting my A-levels and went off on tour. When it imploded before I turned 20, I felt like the best was behind me. It felt very bleak. Groovejet is a house track, and I didn’t think that was what I was about, but I really liked it, and didn’t second-guess it. Everything I’ve ever done since has been with the knowledge of what it’s like for ¬everything to go pear-shaped without a Plan B.
Best songwriter?
I don’t think Madonna gets enough credit as a songwriter. Like A Prayer is an insanely good record. Thematically, it manages to get love, sex, longing and religion all into one song. It’s clever, and bold. The mark of a good song for me is that it takes you on the same journey every time you hear it. Like A Prayer gets me every time. I don’t like songs that are a conceit, when lyrics are written in just because they rhyme, or songs that are overly earnest.
Best day?
Richard and I got married in Italy, partly so we could eat Italian food. We have no family ties to Italy, but my instinct was to go abroad, for the weather, landscape and the wine. We were 26, young and silly, and the first of our friends to get married, so everybody really went for it. There was jumping in the pool at three in the morning, and there was tiramisù. My eldest son, Sonny, was about 14 months old, and he was there too.
Best moment?
When I got pregnant with my fifth child, my manager had planned a ¬special gig at the South Bank centre with a 40-piece orchestra. I thought, oh my gosh, I’m going to be six months pregnant, maybe that’s not such a clever idea. But when I ended up on stage at the Royal Festival Hall with this huge orchestra, a huge tummy and high heels, I felt pretty brilliant – good in my skin, happy and proud.
Worst trip?
After I’d had my first success with Groovejet, my then-boyfriend and I decided to go on holiday. I was 22 and it was the first time I was able to book somewhere a bit swanky. I went to a travel agent and they recommended the Seychelles. Thousands of pounds later we got there, and it didn’t stop raining for the whole six days.
Worst health scare?
With my first couple of babies I had pre-eclampsia and had to have them early. I was really fortunate to be diagnosed and to have the healthcare we have in this country, but it was a shock. I was 25 and thought I’d be pretty good at pregnancy, but because I didn’t feel very well I felt pretty shoddy at it. The pregnancy books follow the trajectory up to nine months, and if you only get to six or seven months, you feel like your body’s let you down a bit. Pre-eclampsia is quite unusual in young mothers. But there was a happy ending.
Worst festival?
The first time I went to Glastonbury was 1997, the year it was a complete quagmire. There was mud and water everywhere. I was very unprepared and turned up in trainers. I had to get a piggy¬back off stage from one of the ¬roadies because I was wearing silver ¬stilettos, and I remember a journalist from the magazine Just 17 taking ¬photos. I love a festival, though. They connect you with the carefree side of yourself. Even now, Richard and I find ourselves feeling 17 again at festivals.
Worst characteristic?
I’m a people-pleaser. I don’t like letting people down. It’s a hard habit to break. Often, people’s lives continue in the same vein whether you say yes or no to stuff, and you don’t get any awards at the end. It means you end up doing things not entirely for the right reasons. I’m really trying to grow out of it.
Worst thing about social media?
You can’t put yourself back in a teenager’s shoes, but I think the pace of the news and the speed of information now is a lot for adult minds to handle, let alone growing minds. It can be overwhelming, even if you know how to filter it. I can’t imagine what it would be like to grow up with. I’m so glad that social media wasn’t around when I was a teenager. I would have been cancelled in 1998.
The absolute worst
I have so many pet hates, including silly things like too many exclamation marks and block capitals in emails. I just don’t want that in my life. And I hate it when people are just casually rude. I’m not into that. I just like a bit of politeness – it makes everything glide that bit smoother if you hold the door open for someone and they say thanks, rather than if they don’t. I know that’s quite old school, but it grates on me.
