genuinely hilarious that jk r*wling's entire transphobic shtick is "protecting cis women from men" while she unironically populates the fantastic beasts franchise with notorious women beaters philanderers and child groomers

The outcome of the libel suit is reprehensible. The jury really awarded a man who was chronically unprofessional, high @ work constantly, and notoriously unreliable $15 million dollars in damages as if this headline actually caused the demise of his career rather than his own behavior. They sanctioned someone $15 million who won’t ever be able to pay that amount and who will either spend the next several decades making payments or having her wages garnished, or who may very well be forced into bankruptcy because of this award. And the cherry on top of this shit stew is that the only way to waive the costs is for Johnny to make that choice, once again putting him in a position of power over Amber, and if he does do that then his toxic stans will act like this is a generous act of benevolence rather than a flagrant display of the power gap that exists between the two of them. This case was so unnecessary and Johnny Depp is a scumbag, and frankly so is literally everyone supporting him.
Look, I’m sorry if you’ve experienced abuse and somehow identify more with him than Amber, but that doesn’t make him the actual victim. His pattern of behavior walks, talks, and smells like an abuser. It’s all the little pieces accumulated that paint the picture. And you know, people mocked the cabinet video, but honestly I thought it was great evidence of his abusive behavior because he comes barreling over to her incredibly aggressive and swipes the phone out of her grasp. I cannot even tell you how many times I’ve heard that from victims I’ve worked with. Abusers love snatching their victims’ phones and either holding them as leverage or flinging them against the wall and breaking them. Look, I don’t know anything about Amber and I’m not here to defend her character outside the scope of their relationship, but she really feels like any woman I’ve ever worked with who has experienced prolonged trauma & mental illness and has adopted whatever survival mechanism (healthy or not) that allows them to get by.

woa woa woa what was that reblog about johnny depp about, i thought amber heard made him victim of her abuse iirc?
in 2020 british courts ruled that depp assault and put amber in fear of her life. the 2022 trial was a defamation trial that depp filed against amber for an op-ed about domestic violence and abuse that she published on the washington post. take note that the op-ed did not mention depp by name. they divorced 2016 with amber accusing depp of domestic violence.
now depp claims that amber abused him back but i don't buy it one bit. "mutual abuse" isn't a thing. depp was obviously the one in power here (20+ years older than amber, history of dating women significantly younger than him, history of violence even before he met amber). amber physically hitting him back (cut his finger etc)/"threatening" him in self-defense is not the same as him physically and sexually assaulting her. the whole trial is for him to publicly humiliate and abuse amber and to gain back money he lost in the past decade (his film career stagnated in the 2010s, his divorce with amber and the MeToo movement came around the release of fantastic beasts which he was eventually kicked out of, etc).
no doubt male survivors of abuse and female abusers exist, i know this all too well as my own abuser is a woman. but this isn't a win for survivors of any gender. it just shows that the system hates survivors and that powerful people can abuse justice systems to suppress them. right now people are talking about megan thee stallion, rihanna, and other survivors and how they could've possibly lied. this whole thing as set the MeToo movement back years all because depp is a greedy abusive piece of shit who wants money in his bank account again.

So you’re team Amber? :/
I wasn’t going to touch this ask but I’d like to address the problem of treating all of this like some sort of spectacle with Teams. No matter what happened it’s none of anyone’s business and it is undeniable that the media attention directed towards this trial will lead to people afraid to come out against their abusers for fear of defamation suits, regardless of who is “in the right”.

perhaps one of the worst things about this whole mess of hate towards amber heard is that so many people are convinced of her guilt because of the “tell the world” audio
when they have never taken it in it’s full context and choose to only acknowledge the part that satisfies their need to defend depp.
Tumblr media
this is the full context of the tape. she literally says she feared for her life. why would she say that to johnny if they both knew it was a lie?
the whole reason she says the whole “tell the world” bit (also consider she never actually says “a man” , she says “man” and that is easily heard if you listen to the tape), is because she was shocked that the man who had spent the last 4 years abusing her, would turn around and say that she was the abuser.
she was shocked that he would call it all a fair fight because he lost his finger (which notice he doesn’t say anything about her cutting his finger off. weird since his excuse for not saying amber did it was “protecting her.” why would he need to protect her, to her?)
she couldn’t believe that anyone in the world would believe he was the victim when she had evidence stemming back years and couldn’t believe that he would even think about saying he was the victim.
conveniently, i never see depp defenders mention any of this. they see the “tell the world” bit and go blind. blatantly doing exactly what adam waldman wanted with his smear campaign.
why would amber say to his face that she thought he was going to kill her, if she was the abuser? if he never had that kind of physical power over her where she literally thought she was going to die?

i don't understand what depp supporters think amber heard should have done. Genuinely, what could she have done that would be enough?
her authenticated pictures aren't "real" enough,
her therapist's notes saying she was abused could be lies because it's just her word,
she didn't leave him (even though many victims don't),
she was diagnosed with ptsd, but another therapist said that she's just histrionic, so that doesn't count.
what would be enough for these people?

JD making his TikTok debut by romanticizing his fans’ utterly unhinged behavior outside the courtroom and telling them they “did the right thing together” is so transparent. I swear to god we really need to more effectively incorporate emotional intelligence development into school curriculums so people can stop being this gullible.

This is a Johnny Depp hate account. This account stands with Amber Heard and the other countless victims of domestic and gendered violence. This account believes that mutual abuse does not exist, for there will never be "both sides" to an abusive relationship. To claim otherwise is to show a fundamental misunderstanding of abuse.
We are in the midst of an anti-feminist backlash, a backlash that is only going to grow stronger. The verdict of the Virginia trial set us back a hundred years. It showed us that it's okay to punish women for speaking up about the abuse they've endured.
We've learnt nothing from MeToo.

I realize I may lose some mutuals over this, but it needs to be said. The criticism of the Depp v Heard trial is just as biased and oversimplified as the clickbait tiktoks and youtube videos.
If all you saw of the trial were those videos that made light of a serious situation, then I understand your misconception, however there was and is legitimate coverage by actual trial attorneys who provided unbiased commentary, as well as education.
Heard lost the trial because her evidence was not good. Her testimony kept changing. Her witnesses were refuted by actual, empirical evidence. The forensic psychologists on her team did not meet with Depp, while Depp's psychologists met with her. This is on top of a myriad of other points in Depp's favor and/or Heard's lack of credibility, as well as her history of DV and Depp's refuted ones by former partners.
He's not a saint, but he was abused; Heard is on record (as testimony and in a recording between herself and Depp) as acknowledging she struck him, then to tell him that he will not be believed
I was under the same biases at the beginning, too, but a lot of those biases came from the internalized misogynistic* perspective that men cannot be victims of women. Women can be abusers, too; we have to think that more than we just say it and think we mean it.
If you'd like some recommendations on YouTube, see NatalieLawyerChick, EmilyDBaker, and AttorneyTom. These are practicing attorneys and/or legal professionals (Emily was a criminal district attorney, but stepped away and is now a legal consultant/commentator).
Believe who you want, but consider your reasons for doing so. Or don't.
*yes, misogynistic, I did not mistype. The assumption that women are too weak or too pure to be violent is rooted in sexism, and the assumption that a man cannot be abused by a woman comes also from the perspective that to be abused is to be female, to be female is to be weak, to be weak is subhuman, and men are the only ones with "True Humanity."
