Specific Fics

Picking my tip-top from my collection of your links, I have to select BATB as well as X-Files-- can't leave it behind.

Light Don't Sleep: Gorgeous. I know I'm prejudiced as a S8 viewer (though it's a love-hate relationship, but still...) and I know your canon ends at Requiem; but WOW, wow wow wow. I love every aspect of this piece: slowly coming back together, Mulder warming to his new role, opening up about some abduction memories as well as his grandparents and the nightlight, "I'll be here" and then ditching to the living room and turning on his thinking music, just... just so many things. I adore it, have reread it, will continue to reread it into infinity.

Anchored/Anchored: Gorgeous piece of work. This moment between them is beautifully done: not overly saccharine or morose, weighted and realistic and true. It's so good I'm going to do a reread after I finish this ask. ;)))

Quonochontaug/tumblr: One of my favorite niches is Mulder (and Scully) spending time at Teena's house-- and this is the toppest of tiers. His memories and the resolution and the waitress... it tugs at my heartstrings in a "cleanse away the bitter" way.

The Sticking Place and The Possibility of Being: I won't even attempt to separate these two because they are inseparable. These stories are incredible to me, not only because you write the characters to a T and build a railroad on top of the tracks S3 laid down, but also because-- for lack of a better word-- I got to see you in your work. Having read hundreds, thousands of fics, it became a point of interest to shave away the fandom and get to the voice of the author. I read your x-files fics first (and I treasure them, of course); but it wasn't until I started reading The Sticking Place that I realized THIS is amplifyme-- it clicked together all your turns of phrases and your MSR angles and the twists and turns you took in your x-files fics. I can't describe it any other way than when I turn back the clock and read some of my older (offline) fandom work: you click into that world, that place. You belong there. And no wonder-- that was your fandom before The X-Files even existed. It's a piece of you I'm honored to have seen.

Singular Moments that Stand Out in My Mind

Whenever I think of your work, these moments immediately pop up:

Mulder and Scully dancing under the lights until she's triggered in an abduction flashback.

Mulder laminating and keeping Scully's DOD number.

Scully and Mulder celebrating New Years on a stakeout, S8 not included~.

Mulder telling Scully he hid her cure in his Jersey Devil scar.

Post Redux II Scully being the glue that keeps Mulder from shattering about Samantha.

Maggie made Mulder pie and Scully is almost jealous about it.

Vincent confronting the shooter in The Sticking Place, Father and the community hailing Vincent a hero (to his anguish), and Cullen thinking differently.

Diana and Father's conversations, Vincent and Father's conversations: there are too many masterful moments to name one.

Your descriptions of Vincent's rich internal world mapping onto the world Below and Above.

And I'm not joking when I mean the below:

Every. single. thing. about Light Don't Sleep (but particularly the details mentioned above, as well as the head-to-toe cradling, and these lines: "I believe you," he said. "I just want to know that everything is going to be all right. I need to know that."/She pulled his hand up and kissed the knuckles. "It'll be as right as we can make it. And I think we've got a very good start." She held his hand to her cheek and blinked against the tears gathering in her eyes. His vulnerability could rip her heart out faster than anything else. She felt his chest swell against her back as he took in a deep breath./"Ah, Scully," he murmured, his voice thick with emotion. "We got our miracle, didn't we?")

Every. single. thing. about The Possibility of Being: this is one of those fics that is perfect for a reread; and, if one doesn't have the time, then for imperative, selective rereading. I shall be doing both countless times.

juliet carmichael x diana kensington i'm getting rich girls energy. like they're friends who shop together, ride together, sunbathe together, holiday together. perhaps a little blair/serena. except instead of fighting over men for the men, they fight over men because they actually love each other and don't realise it.

amara jardine x kian buckston i do love a little age gap, and these two look like they could be quite cute. i feel like amara could be kian's sister's friend, or one of his friend's sister's/sister's friends (they're all incredible close). so they could see each other regularly but not for long, and then at parties/events they sometimes share an actual conversation. kian would definitely be concerned he was a little creep though, but that's cute right?

luka belov x fox sawyer if luka is a trainee mechanic, fox is an uber driver so perhaps he has a lot (suspicious) of issues with his car that he goes to luka to help him with. if luka is with the nhl, maybe fox is a big big fan and shows up to every, single match. so either way. it's giving fox being obsessed, in a fun, cool and adorable way, of course.

daxton warner x cullen wentworth daxton is a nhl forward, cullen is a serial killer. what could go wrong? (my brain is currently loading, but if i conjure up a vision, i will edit this later).

thea madden x clara walker i sort of vibe clara taking thea under her wing for whatever reason. maybe thea's recently had a break up, and they met at a club - or maybe thea's constantly arranging flowers for clara and so they end up having conversations at her shop and clara develops a soft (and protective) spot for the younger woman. they could either be a romance or bromance of dreams. two barbies together.

Cullen knew he should be in bed right now. Whatever flu had been tearing through Skyhold had finally gotten to him - and it was brutal. The man felt incredibly fatigued and wanted nothing more than to sleep all day. But there was work to do, reports to read, men to be trained. New recruits seemed to arrive daily as the Inquisition’s influence continued to grow, and he was supposed to be their commander.

So when the Inquisitor stood beside his desk and insisted she take care of him, he only waved her off. He wasn’t a child after all; he was not in need of a caretaker. And certainly Diana had better things to do than take care of him. She was the Inquisitor, after all. Cullen should be the least of her concerns.

“I’m fine, Inquisitor. There’s too much work to be done right now.” As soon as he spoke, he could hear just how congested he actually was; not mention the burning in his throat making his voice much quieter than usual. Maker, it was going to be brutal ordering the men. Maybe he would have someone stand in as his voice for now.

Cullen moved to stand but immediately regretted it as the room began to spin. He dropped back into his chair, sighing. “Alright, maybe I’m not fine. I… should probably be in bed. But I don’t need you to take care of me, Inquisitor. I’m sure there are more important things that need your attention.”

She’d already added two thick logs to the hearth and with the cushy padding laid upon the ground she was ready for their evening. It’d been a long day. The letter arrived early in the morning, from Val Royeux, bearing the seal of the new Divine. “This… we all knew this was coming.” Leliana sighed, the last two years having been kind to her delicate features. “We have time, but we cannot ignore this. How do you wish to address this, Inquisitor?”

“May I suggest a more diplomatic answer? We will have time to lay out our case before the council and it will be better to give them less to focus on.” Josephine grumbled, pinching the bridge of his nose. “I can word it as a polite acknowledgment, limit the words so they have less to pick at.”

“Then do so. This whole affair is a blatant power grab.” Cullen scowled, the line between his eyes having deepened since the fall of Corypheus. “Its an insult to everything we’ve done. Everything we’ve fought for; our people have died for.” Slamming his hand onto the map table he growled. “Damned politics! Ungrateful…”

“I understand your pain, Commander.” Diana broke his rage. “We have lost many. Perhaps it would be wise to send a message with your reply. Attach a copy of every member of the Inquisition lost during these last three years. Those who perished in the battles to stop Corypheus and those who died maintaining the peace and dealing with the last of the rifts. Be sure to address it to the Divine herself. I think Cassandra will be most annoyed and she’ll know how best to leverage it in our favour. She’s held the hounds off this long, she’ll need all the help she can get.”

Everyone easily agreed and with that the last of their business they went to their daily work. By dinner Diana was pleading with time to hurry. Pouring two goblets of wine she settled against a thick, overstuffed cushion. Cullen would be up any minute now and she’d set the mood in preparation. A few candles flickered on her desk, the hearth the only other source of light. In the center of the blanket, lay a tray of meats, cheeses, breads, fruit and chocolates. They were going to enjoy a quiet evening, one they rarely had up until recently. “You went all out.” Cullen smiled brightly as he crested the staircase. “Then come and sit. Take off your boots.” Diana grinned, holding his wine glass.

Cuddling into her, he took the glass and settled in. “I apologize for my anger today.” Taking a small sip, he eased into her, curling himself as comfortably as he could, splayed upon the lush blanket and plump pillows. “We’ve all been under so much stress as of late. I shouldn’t have added to yours.”

“Cullen.” Diana smiled before she kissed his cheek and helped guide his head down into her lap. Carding her fingers through his hair she fed him a cube of cheese before chuckling. “I’ve waited so long for this.” Finishing chewing, he shook his head, “to feed me cheese?”

“No silly.” Squishing his cheeks, she laughed. “Quiet. Blissful peace with just the two of us. Here now. Only the sound of the fire and having you laid upon my lap.”

“I could get used to this.” Cullen reached up and ran his bare thumb over her lips. “Tonight, no more talk of work. Promise.” Brushing his hand over her cheek he pulled her down, lifting himself up as best he could to capture her lips. It was over far quicker than either wanted, “we have all night,” Cullen sighed as he eased his head back into her lap. “But first, let’s just enjoy this moment.”

“We have all night.” Diana echoed his breathy reply as she returned to combing her fingers through his hair.
