Curious about a book I’ve just started reading…
I’ve just started reading “Ill Equipped” by AJ Lange, and I’m getting VERY big Check Please vibes - and I’m still in chapter 1.
Wondering if anyone else has read it?
It feels very classic CP so far: main character Cam (Canadian) plays for an NHL team (Manchester Storm), goes to a club after a game in Vegas and hooks up with Elliot, who is from the south but is currently at college in Massachusetts, and he plays on their hockey team.
They wake up the morning after the hookup to discover they’d decided to get married during the night.
And that’s all so far…
EDIT: I’m gonna update this as I go as more similarities pop up…
Elliot is called “Chick” by his college hockey team because he’s the smallest
Cam is known as “The Prince”
Elliot is currently having a conversation with a pair of his teammates: “one tall and blonde, one dark-skinned and perhaps too flirty” (ransom and holster?)
Elliot cooks for his teammates
There’s also a Kent-style character, Jesse, Cam’s ex who also plays hockey and lives in Vegas
Ok so I’ve read a LOT of CP fic, and I swear I’ve already read this over on AO3.
The only CP fic that I’m aware of being published was “Like Real People Do” (pretty sure that’s its name…), so it’s quite possible this is a reworked CP fic…

Ginathon Episodes: Episode 212 (With a little addition)
Kerry follows Gina, pointing out that she hadn't been given an assignment or beat in the briefing. Gina tells her she wants her to work on an assault case that has been waiting to be completed and presented to the CPS. Kerry assumes it's an excuse to keep her from the other uniform officers. "Now why would I want to do that?" Gina asks. "Because of The Smithy Thing?" Gina reminds her she's going to have to decide whether or not to make it official and Kerry tells her she hasn't yet. Gina tells her she can't put it off forever and that she wants her to do the job she's given her in the meantime.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Andrea presses Kerry to find out if the allegation has been made official. Kerry says she's being punished by being kept in because 'she dared to make an allegation'. Do these people not look behind themselves before they bitch? ESPECIALLY when it's about Gina?
Tumblr media
Gina interrupts them and continues through to the front office where she finds Adam. She updates him there's still no information from Kerry about if she's going to make the allegation official. Later Kerry finds herself alone as everyone not-so-subtly leaves the canteen table she joins. Tony and Gary make themselves clear they believe Smithy and that Kerry is being cruel holding him to ransom by not giving him chance to clear his name by making it official or telling people that it isn't true once and for all.
(As an aside for @everythingisdragons this is an episode featuring Don Beech as Neil's informant for an armed robbery. It's the first episode for DI Peter Cavanaugh from NCIS (Pronounced Ensis. National Criminal Intelligence Squad, not the naval drama.). He has Honey, Sam and Debbie all batting their eyelashes at him. "I think I've just fallen in love!" Honey whimpers at her first sight of Peter. )
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kerry takes the case that Gina asked her to work to Jonathan. She tells him that the defendants and victims are as bad as each other and have records for similar crimes. A witness saw the attack but couldn't say who started it. Kerry suggests the whole thing be NFA'd and due to lack of helpful evidence Jonathan agrees.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Jack is FURIOUS when Peter tells him about Neil's information from Don Beech. Neil explains that Don was his Sgt (Don arrived at Sun Hill in 95/Series 11. If Neil is Andrew's age he'd have been 20-23.) Jack wants to hand it over to NCIS because he wants nothing to do with anything that Don is involved in but Neil insists Sun Hill have done the groundwork so should see it out. Peter suggests he stick around to 'help out'. Okaro agrees as Peter has more information on Trevor Little (an Australian criminal that Don works with whilst he was on the run). Can Debbie and Sam be more obvious?🤣)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jonathan sits in on a conversation between Jack, Peter and Neil with regards to the armed robbery and what they suspect might happen when Trevor Little makes his next move. Jack suspects Don could be in on the robbery and spinning a yarn to take the police focus away from what is really happening. Neil doesn't think Don would do that but Peter admits it is a possibility. Jonathan tells them that they're not just looking at information coming from a bent copper but also someone with a serious criminal record with no sign of contrition. If they were to proceed and the case made it to court, it would have to be a confidential disclosure as to where the information came from. Neil suspects that Jack is only holding back on acting on the case and using the full CID department because Don is involved. Jack reminds him he doesn't have a clue what game Don is playing and warns him to never question a decision he's made again. There's always a price when it comes to Don.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honey: It's about time we got a bit of talent around here, innit!
Debbie: "There's been a mini influx of male totty lately. I wouldn't say no to Jonathan Fox."
Honey: "That old bloke from the CPS? You're having a laugh aren't ya? But then again I guess he is more your age..."
Tumblr media
(Don tells Neil that if he agrees he owes him one, he'll give him everything - the time, the place, the hit. Neil thinks about it and agrees. "It's tomorrow, 10.30, near Butler's Wharf." "And the hit?" "Gems, diamonds... enough for you and half of London to retire on.")
Gina questions Jonathan to find out if he read the entire file that Kerry presented to him. He admits he only listened to what Kerry said and worked from that because she said there was insufficient evidence. Gina points out that her team spent a huge amount of time on the case and says the detailed witness statements and defendants records were more than enough to push it over the line. Jonathan suggests that perhaps Kerry didn't present the evidence in the best light. "Well I think it's still worth pursuing!!!" Gina says firmly. "And I agree with you." Gina's had the wind knocked out of her sails somewhat, having expected more of a fight. "...What?" He promises to look at it again and see what they can do. "Well don't you do me any favours, Mr Fox!" "No favours, it's my job." he says reasonably. "Right! Well! ...Thank you very much!" Gina flusters, fumbling almost with his door before making a quick exit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gina calls Kerry to her office before she leaves. She tells her what Jonathan told her about Kerry not presenting the case correctly and calls her out on doing it on purpose because she was made to remain in the station. She tells her Smithy is returning tomorrow so she wants her final answer about the allegation by then.
Jonathan spots Debbie leaving and invites her to go with him for a drink rather than the gym. Debbie agrees as Gina watches them, looking absolutely gutted.

Kids at Karen’s bar
Tumblr media
Rifu-Name means Reef and prefers water type pokemon.
Kind of on the bratty side but means we'll at the end of the day. Quick witted, fashionista. Grew up making hair barettes and continues to make jewelry as she gets older. Also will snap at anyone who hurts her two adopted brothers. Only she gets to be mean to them.
Age: 9
Tumblr media
Nobu-Name meaning to put one's faith in something. Prefers Steel pokemon.
He is gradually loosing his hearing, and there is little that can be done to stop it. However he is incredibly smart and loves languages and is readily learning every language he can. Generally quiet though, and doesn’t speak much cause assumes people don’t want to hear him anyway.
Age: 9
Tumblr media
Sunada-sandy rice paddy. Prefers dark and ground pokemon.
Rambunctious is an understatement with this one. Karen saved him from a scrap and he aspires to be just like her. Always finding trouble or trying to pick a fight he's always on the move.
Age: 7
The kids stories and why they're at the bar
Below the cut cause sad af
Tw: child abandonment, drug mentions, child abuse mentioned, child neglect mentioned.
Rifu: One of Karen's regulars who was an active dealer came to her explaining one of his clients neglecting a child. She got the kid properly reported through cps. A year later they got the kid back. Angry at them she kidnapped the child herself after finding the child in worse conditions telling the mother to either turn her life around or she would get her kid back. The never has never once come for the child. Rifu was a toddler when this happens and only remembers flashes.
Nobu: Simple and easy. He was left on the bar doorstep as a baby. Biological parents have yet to be found.
Sunada: Was a kid who moved to Johto with his parents. However they met a tragic death in a pokemon accident thus he ended up in an orphanage however he kept running away telling them he didn't want new parents. One day while running he got jumped by some punks who backed him into a corner just wanting to ransom him or something. Then came Karen beating them up and saving him. He refused to go back to the orphanage glaming onto her as his hero so she worked out a deal with the place and took him in. They were fine with it tired of him breaking out anyway.

Kidnapping epidemic: Police beef up security in Imo LG
Tumblr media
The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has increased police presence in the Owerri West Local Government Area of the state. This is to curb the upsurge in violent crimes like kidnappings, rape, and murder in a forest spanning across the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nekede, Ihiagwa, Avu, and Obinze communities, all in the Owerri West LGA. On January 24, 2024, the command said its operatives rescued the immediate past chairman of the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, Samuel Ohiri, from the kidnappers’ den after spending about three weeks there. Abduction is one of the most prominent vices in the state and other parts of the country. Similarly, in December 2023, those who abducted the parish priest of St. Michael’s Catholic Church Umuekebi in the Osuowerre autonomous community in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state, Rev. Fr. Kingsley Eze, also known as Father Ichie, together with his driver, Uchennna Newman, demanded N10m in ransom. A statement issued by the spokesman for the police in the state, Henry Okoye, in Owerri, the state capital, on Friday, disclosed that the CP’s action was propelled by the recent discovery of three decomposed corpses in the forest, believed to be victims of kidnapping. A few days ago, the CP led his men into the forest, exhumed three bodies of kidnapping victims, and arrested five suspects who hail from the northern states of the country. The forest had been serving as a den for suspected Fulani herdsmen kidnappers who had been terrorising the Owerri-Port Harcourt expressway axis of the state. Meanwhile, many kidnapped victims and their relatives had severally accused Fulani herdsmen of addicting them or their relatives in that axis. The statement read, “The Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, in his continued commitment to improving the overall safety and security of the state, has, on 1/2/2024, convened a pivotal security meeting with the stakeholders of all the communities in Owerri West LGA. “The meeting was necessitated by an upsurge in violent crimes in these areas and the recent discovery of three unidentified decomposing corpses suspected to be kidnapped victims in a forest spanning across FUTO, Nekede, Ihiagwa, and Obinze. “The meeting, which was held at the Ihiawa Civil Clan Centre, provided an opportunity for the CP and his management team to interact and cross-fertilise ideas with stakeholders of the respective communities in Owerri West LGA on the prevalent security challenges within their locality and collaboratively roll out proactive strategies that will improve the peace and security of their communities and other areas in the state. The all-important security meeting had in attendance representatives of the Commander 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, Director of DSS, Imo State Command, Traditional Rulers of Eziobodo, Okolochi, Umuokpo, Nekede, Obinze, and Eziokole communities, Sarki Hausawa of the region, and delegates from Ihiagwa, Umuchima, Obinze, Umuanunu, the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), the Hunters Association, and other communities in Owerri West LGA. “They interacted and shared ideas on how to peacefully coexist and assist security operatives in the onslaught against crimes and criminality in the state. Earlier the same day, CP Danjuma, in furtherance of his proactive community policing strategy of combating crime, paid a familiarisation visit to the Vice Chancellor of FUTO. “During this, he solicited more partnerships, particularly in the provision of actionable intelligence that will assist the Command in providing maximum safety for the staff and students of FUTO. “Accordingly, the CP has deployed more operational men to Owerri West LGA and tasked them to work in robust synergy with other security agencies and the local vigilante. “He assured the good people of Imo State that similar stakeholders’ security meetings will be replicated continuously across the 27 LGAs of the state,” the statement further noted. By • Olalekan Fagbade Four Policemen arrested allegedly after kidnapping Hotel staff and requesting for one million naira ransom No fewer than four officers have been arrested by the Rivers State Police Command over alleged kidnapping of a hotel staff in Port Harcourt, the state capital and consequent demand of a ransom to release the victim. The police officers reportedly accosted the hotel staff on his way to work around 8pm on Friday near Choba in Obio/Akpor local government area of the State. After searching and not finding any incriminating item on the hotel staff, the officers were said to have whisked him away to an unknown destination where they threatened to kill him as they had done to some other victims who refused to cooperate with them in the past. While insisting on the one million naira ransom, the operatives had even threatened to throw his body into the Choba River after killing him. They also tagged him as a kidnapper. As reported by The PUNCH, the policemen were also said to have tied the man inside a vehicle and patrolled with him until they finally took him to a bush around Aluu in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the State. But luck ran out of the police officers when the matter was reported to the Divisional Police Officer who disguised and started negotiating the payment of ransom with the rogue officers pretending to be the father of the victim. The DPO then pleaded with them to meet him up at a certain location where he would pay them the one million naira ransom, but on getting there, the DPO and his team disarmed them and arrested them. The state Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, confirmed the arrest of the officers at an event in Port Harcourt, saying they were in custody. CP Disu stated, “I heard about that incident on social media, and despite that, I went to town with my officers to work on it. “I’m confirming to you that officers who had contact with that victim have been arrested. I’m waiting for complaints from the victim to know what and what to really look out for. “The officers are there. We are not hiding anything and when the complaints come we will give you further details on what we have done about it.”

Tumblr media
A sensational case of cyber black mailing and cheating has come to light in the city.  In this case registered at Pratap Nagar police station, the police have arrested 3 including the main accused IT professional husband and wife from Pune. Arrested accused includes Shatrughan Singh Tangral and his wife Manjusha along with Rahul Satyendra Jha, all three are residents of Pune. It is alleged that he stole source code and client's data from the director of a company based in Nagpur in the last 5 years and blackmailed them with rigging of about 9 crores. Police have booked a total of 12 people under various sections of cybercrime including cheating and blackmailing threats etc. Probably this is the first case of cyber blackmailing in the city.
Loot of 9 crores in 5 years
All the three accused were produced in the court on Friday from where they were sent to police custody for 4 days. The prosecution argued that, the accused are highly educated and are tricksters. If bail is granted, the evidence may be tampered. Accepting the argument, the court granted a 4 day PCR.

What is the case?
Vinodkumar Tambi, a resident of Civil Lines, is the Director of Excellon Software Private Limited which is situated in IT Park. Started in 1999 with the name of e-Caliber India, Tambi had appointed Shatrughan Singh on the post of Web Developer till 31st March 2020 he reached at the post of Vice President Product & Engineering . During this period, he was given of salary upto Rs 60 lakh and Rs 40 lakh shares and bonus shares from the company.
CP got the investigation done in CBI style
Torn by blackmailing, Tambi saw the police as the last resort. He along with his lawyer Virat Mishra met the city police commissioner Dr. Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay and narrated his entire story. CP Dr. Upadhyay took the matter seriously and asked to register a case at Rana Pratap Nagar police station. The investigation was immediately handed over to EOW DCP Shweta Khedkar. The city police quickly collected evidence on the lines of the CBI and arrested Shatrughan Manjusha and Rahul from the area of Chaturshrungi Police Station in Pune and brought them to Nagpur.
 Fake company made with wife
Excellon’s clients includes multinational companies. Being the Vice President, the work of the company was outsourced by Shatrughan to complete the work quickly. Shatrughan's wife Manjusha has worked in big companies like Persistent and TCS. During the job, both husband and wife together formed their own company named BizCloud and outsourced company were also joined, in which two UK IT professionals were also involved.  Together, Shatrughan and Manjusha together took the advantage of Excellon’s source code, software and data took illegal advantage of clients and accounts. Through BizCloud, they caused a loss of crores to Excellon.  Blackmailed Tambi, in the beginning of the year 2019, got suspicious when Shatrughan was asked about this, he along with Manjusha and Rahul started blackmailing him in the name of source code and client data.
Source code, Software and Data stolen
 The thief leaves a trail
Worried about the confidentiality of his client's data, Tambi silently tolerated the blackmailing of Shatrughan and Manjusha and also paid the ransom amount.
Just like every thief makes some or the other mistake, similarly Tambi also got one mistake of Shatrughan.
With the help of many software and other IT experts, all the black exploits of Shatrughan, Manjusha and their other accomplices were recovered, during which they would also pay the ransom amount, so that Shatrughan and Manjusha do not suspect that evidence is being collected against him

ACFC and SD were in completely different situations and boats. It can’t be compared. CP was “owned” by another club. We had to pay a Queen’s (lol) ransom to get her. That was both money and picks. SD through the expansion draft first player was Abby DK. Everyone focuses on Morgan. It was DK basically for free. And Morgan had basically stopped giving any effort in Orlando so unloading her for some allocation money was great. SD still had their 1st round college draft pick and got Girma. ACFC had only 3rd and 4th round picks. I’m afraid that the rest of the league from this point forward will not deal with us in good faith. We are going to have to build our roster through free agency. I’m a life long Laker fan and NO one ever wants to deal with the Lakers to make the Lakers better or more competitive. I feel ACFC is headed that way now even in year 2. We are not going to get great options using other teams.
But we have other things: desirable location, desirable stadium and desirable city, lots of possibilities with sponsors. We can attract intl talent with a good GM, we only need a person who knows how to negotiate and someone who knows the american soccer system to get players like Reid.

By *Funmilayo Olusanya* The Bauchi State Police command have detained a 25-year-old man for allegedly killing a five-year-old kidnapped child. The suspect, identified as Anas Auwal, a resident of Tsangaya Village in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State allegedly lured the minor of the same address with candies to his room. Later, he demanded a N5 million ransom from the youngster's father before releasing him, but the father of the boy informed Auwal that he lacked the necessary funds. The Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Ahmed Wakil, stated this in a media statement made available to journalists in the state on Thursday. Wakil, a Superintendent of Police, said that the suspect hacked the boy to death after he realised that he recognised him. He said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Umar Sanda, directed that the suspect be charged to court for prosecution. “The Command has arrested Anas Auwal ‘m’ 25yrs old from Tsangaya village in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State for kidnapping and gruesome murder of five-year-old teenager Abba Yahuza ‘m’ of the same address. “Preliminary investigation revealed that on the 11th October 2022 at about 2pm, the suspect lured the victim into his room with sweets. He later called the victim’s father by phone and threatened him to bring the sum of five million naira (N5, 000,000.00) as ransom but the father told him that he couldn’t raise the demanded amount. “The suspect later came to realize that the victim knew him and that his identity would be revealed if he released him. “Consequently, the suspect decided to hack the victim to death in his room and waited until night time, bundled the victim in a sack and buried the body in a shallow grave. “The suspect has confessed to the crime as the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Mamman Sanda, directed that the suspect be charged to court for prosecution. “In the same vein, the CP has advised parents and guardians to be vigilant and security-wise about the whereabouts of their children,” he advised. Similarly, the Police Spokesman said that two suspects were also arrested for allegedly kidnapping one Samaila Gidado, a resident of Gayar Mukal, Duguri District, of Alkaleri LGA of Bauchi state and collecting N3.1 million ransom. He said that the suspects were arrested after they were shot during a gun battle with the Police in their hideout, while others escaped with gunshot wounds. Wakil said: “On October 25, 2022, at about 2.30am, Abubakar Yakubu (20) aka Dogo and Abdullahi Adamu (40), all males of Quanpan, LGA, Plateau State, criminally conspired with others, now at large, while armed with AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons stormed the house of Samaila Gidado, male, of Gayar mukal Duguri district Alkaleri LGA Bauchi State. “They kidnapped him to an unknown destination and demanded and collected the sum of N3,190,000, as ransom before he was released. “During the investigation, the team of detectives was assigned to trace and arrest the suspects. In the process of the investigation, a piece of information was received from a reliable source that they were seen in a bush. “A tactical team was quickly drafted and cordoned the area and engaged them in a gun duel. As a result of our superior firepower, two of the suspects got injured and were successfully arrested while others escaped with gun injuries; all efforts have been put in place to arrest the remaining gang members.”

Anambra Police frown on indigenous people's unwillingness to provide information, insist unknown gunmen are known The police in Anambra State have expressed displeasure to the attitude of the indigenes of various communities in the state who has refused to volunteer information concerning the activities of criminals in their areas. CP Echeng Echeng, who is the Commissioner of Police, made this known in a press conference on Monday. He said that there was nothing unknown about the gunmen terrorising Anambra State to warrant the "unknown gunmen" tag. Also, the commissioner, while reacting to the rumours that the slain Anambra lawmaker, Hon Okey Okoye was killed because of refusal to pay ransom, said there was no truth in the insinuation. Echeng said: “I’m not aware that any ransom was demanded, or any ransom paid.” He said: “We have been saying unknown gunmen is not the right name for these criminals. We are trying to mystify something that is not just there. “It is time we go into demystifying those people. These people are not spirits, they live with us, they are our nephews, our cousins, our brothers, and they live in communities. We know who they are. The problem of security is that of total silence, nobody sees something, nobody hears something and nobody says something. “Security is collective and everyone has a part to play. Crimes are localized, and they happen in our communities. Read More On www.newsieevents.com https://www.instagram.com/p/Cd6JhVWpNrH/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

By • Olalekan Fagbade How Community Leader was allegedly buried alive by notorioust Cult members after collecting ransom Two suspected cultists identified as Baridapdo Igia and Elvis Gordon were paraded on Monday at the Rivers State Police Command over alleged kidnapping and murder. The suspects were accused of kidnapping and burying a man identified as Praise Daakian, who is a former Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman. Parading the suspects alongside other 15 suspects before journalists at the Rivers State Police Command, the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, said the suspects and his accomplices buried the victim alive after collecting N200,000 as part payment for a ransom from the victim’s wife. He said, “Anti-Cultism Unit arrested Baridapdo Igia, 33yrs ‘m’ and Elvis Gordon, 26yrs ‘m’, two suspected armed robbers and kidnappers in Kereken-Boue community of Khana Local Government Area. After a series of interrogations, the duo confessed to being leaders of Iceland and Degbam cult groups in Khana Local Government Area, respectively and have been terrorising Khana Local Government Area for the past three years. “During interrogations, they also admitted to kidnapping and burying alive one Praise Daakian, a former CDC Chairman in Khana Local Government Area. They murdered the victim after collecting the sum of NGN200,000 as part of payment for his ransom from the victim’s wife. “The duo also confessed to murdering nine other victims from 2021 to 2023 and were the main reason for the partial evacuation of the community within this same period. Investigations are still ongoing to uncover the full scale of the suspects’ operations.” CP Disu said the operatives of the command attached to C4i Intelligence also arrested one Emmanuel Essien, and Marshal Ime whom he said confessed to being members of a four-man armed robbery syndicate responsible for terrorising parts of Port Harcourt in recent times. He said one of the suspects, Essien Emmanuel, disclosed to the operatives that he had been arrested, prosecuted and imprisoned three times for sundry offences.
