I have caught the worst strain of covid-19.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The variants on this illness are fucking STRONG. They’re dastardly daring and dutifully debilitating. please be safe out there my immunocompromised friends & mutuals. I wouldn’t wish this agony on my worst enemy.
& FOR THE RECORD, YOUR HONOR,
I LOOKED LIKE THIS ⬇️ YESTERDAY but today I am a corpse.

Rising COVID-19 Hospitalizations Amid Complacency: The JN1 Variant Surge
Tumblr media
As of January 12, 2024, the United States is experiencing the second-largest COVID-19 surge of the pandemic, with the JN1 variant accounting for about 62% of the circulating strains. Despite this, there seems to be a general sense of complacency and "pandemic fatigue" among the public.
In the last week of December, nearly 35,000 Americans were hospitalized with COVID-19, a 20% increase from the previous week. Additionally, almost 4% of all deaths in the U.S. were related to COVID-19, with the death rate up 12.5% in the most recent week. This surge in the JN1 variant has resulted in the highest hospitalization numbers since nearly a year ago.
Despite these alarming figures, the public's response has been muted compared to the early years of the pandemic. This complacency is attributed to several factors. Firstly, the risk of imminent death is perceived to be lower now that vaccines are available and more is known about the virus. Secondly, the absence of strong reminders of the pandemic, such as lockdowns and quarantines, has led to a sense of normalcy. Lastly, most people have either contracted COVID-19 or been vaccinated, which provides a sense of reassurance, despite the fact that protection from the virus and the vaccine diminishes over time.
However, the normalization of mask-wearing and increased awareness of virus transmission have led to more people taking precautions against other viral threats like the common cold, the flu, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Individual risk tolerance also influences the use of protective measures, with more anxious individuals more likely to moderate their behavior, avoid crowds, and adhere to social distancing.
Looking forward, experts warn that while our response to COVID-19 has been largely effective, we need to be better prepared for future pandemics. This includes improving indoor air quality to protect against respiratory viruses and planning for the emergence of new COVID-19 variants. The future remains uncertain, with the potential for new, more dangerous variants to emerge that could evade immunity and existing vaccines, triggering a new pandemic.

The worst situation is in Rome and its region, where more than 1,100 patients are waiting to be admitted, according to the Italian Society of Emergency Medicine and Urgent Care (Simeu). "We are trying to guarantee the service, but we are in an extremely difficult situation," Simeu president Fabio de Laco explained. According to Simeu, the number of patients waiting in Piedmont has reached some 500, while in Lombardy and its capital, Milan, normal hospital admissions have been suspended in order to "free up" some beds for emergencies.
This is January 5, 2024--4 years now since the COVID pandemic began.

Breath Under Duress
image courtesy of Dean Moriarty via pixabay.com We are getting into a particularly chaotic time, between midterms, digging down to prepare for another COVID surge in spite of the deniers, and what’s happening astrologically. Although Saturn, the pattern of life lessons, went direct yesterday, we’re not out of the woods. Look at the life lessons you learned since the retrograde began on June 4.…
