WARNING TO COSPLAYERS: Got another dude trying to lure women to a hotel for an 'event'. (Pics in my Stories). I had someone who goes by the name "jayleo77" on IG send me a message about participating in an annual 'event' at a hotel in Maryland. He said he worked as a chef in the kitchen. He said the event was needing girls to model costumes at a food related event, one they do annually. Not up my alley, but of course he also promised a ridiculously high wage. Super suspicious, I asked for photos of the previous events. He sent me photos that were viewable once, so I took screenshots of them. They were very different looking gowns displaying cupcakes, but clearly in different locations & different photo styles. In the time it took me to do my Googling, he got very impatient (they don't like you to research) & told me to decide quickly, not to waste his time!! Of course, his images were stolen & there was no such event. When asked why he supplied stolen pics (and apparently made up the event), he kept getting angrier that I was calling him out on it, but not explaining why he gave me stolen pics. Today I called the specific hotel he tried to get me to go to. This has apparently happened before. The general manager (an awesome lady!!) is collecting these reports & had me email her all details & links as they are handing them to authorities. TLDR: Assuming all I could track down about this person was real (doubting it, since he created this whole scam), a Taiwan-ese American man named Jay (or Justin) Hohner has repeatedly tried to get cosplay girls to meet him at a hotel in Maryland under the promise of a lot of pay for a few hours of modeling. DO NOT ENGAGE, take screencaps & call the hotel he references. They are compiling these with authorities. STAY AWARE. This came 24 hours after someone created an account just to try to find out where I was located. #fallforcostume day 6: inside. Today I want to talk about safety with crafting, especially when you are working inside! Many of us use spray paint on props and I (like many others) do so inside due to lack of space and inclement weather. Just remember your health is important, so always work in a well ventilated area, and get a respirator if you can. Spay tents are also available that help keep your space - and your air - clean. This is also important when working with certain glues, silicones, melting plastic, etc. look up how to handle your materials and follow the instructions!
