Well, after reading another cops are useless story, I have one of my own.  Not as harrowing as the ones that really go around, not by a long shot, but I have my own personal story of Cops Being Useless in my life.   So, it happened many years ago.  I worked at a horse farm, mucking stables for personal-check close to minimum-wage pay.  I loved the job despite it being low-wage and one of those “lowly jobs” where I was working for rich people (who honestly could have afforded to pay me more) - because horses.  My fiance’ came to pick me up after work and we decided to go to Rita’s (water ice) instead of going right home.   We encounter a pair of horses loose and wandering the highway. They weren’t from my farm, but from one of the neighbors.  My fiance’ puts his cell phone in my hand and tells me to call 911, so I call and make a report of horses on the road, being a road-hazard.  Meanwhile, we swerve around them with our car and drive slowly, trying to gently shepherd them back toward our farm so we can rally people and get harnesses to catch them.  I tell the 911 operator what we are doing when... some jackass comes whipping down the road (a road notorious for people just speeding down it and not looking at what they’re doing) and... well, one of the horses got hit.  The thrown horse came within inches of hitting our car.  It didn’t, but there was this whinny-scream and in the darkening evening, I just kind of... saw this...um... (the squeamish stop reading the brackets, please) [...um... pile of guts and hooves. I’ll never forget the smell and I was most worried as to whether the animal was still alive.  Thankfully, it wasn’t].   I screamed at the operator what just happened and hung up the phone as my fiance’ screamed at me to “Keep the other horse in the field!”   The other horse had careened off into the field by the side of the road and was acting... like a panicked horse.  It kept running back and forth between the treeline of the woods and the road and... my job was to try to keep the horse out of the road.  I locked into mental mission-mode and carried on and waved my arms and kept on the edge of the road, frightening the horse back into the field whenever it came close so as to keep it from running into any oncoming traffic.  Meanwhile, my fiance’ was checking on the driver of the truck that hit the one horse.  (The man and his dog were okay).   He took his phone back and we were trying to get ahold of the people at my horse-farm, my boss, co-workers, other horse-owners to rally them with equipment to come try to harness this horse, help us calm it.   It was at least a half hour before the cops from the 911 call showed up.  And what did they do when they arrived?  Well, they did take care of the accident report with the guy in the truck that had hit the one horse.  As for the rest of it? Nada.   They just STOOD AROUND AND WATCHED ME - and my fiance’ when he was free to help handle the situation, put ourselves between a 1000lb ball of fear we were trying to keep from getting killed / potentially killing drivers and... idiot drivers whipping up the corner of the road.   Seeing this... I was kind of polite and said “Yeah, it is probably better if we handle it, we know how to deal with horses,”  - I just figure the cops had lack of basic equestrian and farming-knowledge.  My fiance and I kept trying to calmly approach the horse when it had moments where it looked like it was calming down.  Not everybody has knowledge of reading the body-language of animals or how to do the talking calmly to them thing... but... STILL.  The cops really didn’t lift a finger.  They were content to watch me put myself between a 1000lbs of bolting flesh and hooves and the two-ton metal death-bullets coming down the roadway at the edge of the road, where I could have easily been hit by either.   I got scolded the next day, too, by one of my sub-bosses for frightening the owner of the farm over the phone because the owner mis-heard that it was one of her horses that got hit and panicked before the situation was worked out.  She apologized later, after being nudged to.  But, you know, that’s what I got for risking my life.  Useless cops and a boss scolding me.   The living horse was taken care of.  I was really sad and worried when I’d heard that the two horses had belonged to a teen girl.  Sad that one was killed, but glad that one was saved, at least.  Was worried about that horse, too, because they bond...this horse just lost his buddy, horses can get depressed.   But yeah, I’ve been in emergency situation where cops were pretty useless.  I mean.. they could have tried?  Seen what I was doing and asked to help? Called around the farms asking for people with horse-harnesses like we were already doing?

“Jason should get over being upset about his death” - he has, he wasn’t angry at Bruce or the world because they failed him and he ended up dying, which he made clear plain as day and that’s about the most reasonable a person who went through what he went through could be
anyway I don’t think these people realize how gory being bludgeoned to near death is, and maybe it's because of the limitations of the medium that scene was presented in
#not to mention he had to process the added heartbreak of his birth mother’s rejection/betrayal at the same time#like yeah he was cocky and smiling in the uth movie go Jason go but that’s also the same movie that drastically changed the context#and tone of that scene by erasing Sheila#kelseethe#I remember the first time reading aditf I got flashbacks to a Korean horror movie that still puts me in a weird place#anyway it was about a serial killer who went around killing people by beating their skulls in with a hammer#one of the plots was centered around a victim who didn’t die after the first attack and even managed to escape at first#long story short she was running around trying to get help and the cops were useless + he ended up finding her again and finished the job#sfx brains skull blood and viscera everywhere#and that’s exactly what happened to Jason you just didn’t see any gore because it’s an American comic#nor did you hear his screams and the sounds from metal making contact with bone and guts#and like I said the uth movie was pretty sanitized too same for the titans show which also downplayed his death lol#anyway I think it’s really forgiving of Jason not to blame Bruce or anyone else for the fact that they let the circumstances lead to that#and to instead only criticize how nothing was done in the aftermath#Idk I always found it a bit fascinating how it doesn’t seem to have dawned on most people including his fans#exactly how violent that experience was

I was about to make a post about how anyone thinking Mario is a jerk should play Super Mario Sunshine and watch Mario endure the Pianta's tantrums and pettiness without trying to murder anyone, and taking it as proof that Mario is a SAINT...
...but then again, the game gives you the option to jump on people, hose them down and throw fruits at them, and I have been doing that a lot. So fine, maybe Mario is a bit of a petty bitch. As a treat.

I dislike the assertion that is constantly made both in fanfiction and posts in general that Mulder is Always Right and Scully is Always Wrong, nevermind that it's not true in the show itself (beyond the sea, revelations, never again) but also considering Mulder's gullibility at times and the assumption that they investigate more cases than what is shown onscreen, wouldn't it stand to reason that Mulder has been plenty wrong? (Yes I'm nitpicking but this specific characterisation of them always rubs me the wrong way)
you came to the right place for this one 😂 it drives me crazy!! it simply is not true, and personally, i think scully's arguments with his theories are what helps make his theories stronger, therefore becoming more "right"
and also field trip. like he claims he's right and he is so so wrong. and they're only able to figure out what's happening because of her finding the secretion and putting the puzzle pieces together...together!!
the real point is that they are a good team. they may not always solve cases. but they get answers. and they need both of them to do that. his "crazy" theories, and her "rational" science.
this is also why when scully believes, mulder is skeptical. if she's taking on the believer role, they still need a skeptic. or when mulder stops believing or struggles to, scully steps into his shoes. they need both.
in the end, they have enough evidence to believe specific things. they give so much to each other. courage to believe + the safety to believe.

cops: yeah we see the black eye, but since we didn't actually see the crime being committed our hands are tied. Sry.
Me: interesting ✍️✍️✍️✍️✍️
Cops: yeah if nobody answers the door we can't just go inside, we don't have the right to just enter peoples houses. So we knocked and left when nobody answered.
Me: ✍️✍️✍️✍️
Cops: also it had to happen within the last 4 hours. And also I'm checking the call log and we were busy that night. By the time the cops showed up... Yeah I'm sorry there just wasn't a way to get there sooner but we tried.
Me: I see ✍️✍️✍️✍️
Cop: Sorry things ended up this way.
Me: Thank you this has been incredibly insightful, actually.
Me, later that night: alright so if get his kneecaps before he calls 911 I should be fine

taking the night bus and this lady gets on talking very loudly, starts yelling when asked to quiet down, insisting "i have rights! it's not illegal to talk on a bus! tell me where it says it's illegal!" and this escalates until a fistfight nearly breaks out and the bus driver calls the cops and they arrest her for trespassing
which-- the whole thing was awful but trespassing? on a public bus, which she got on legally? all i can think is displaying sufficient mental illness in public -> you have now de facto committed whatever crime serves to get you forcibly removed from that public space. so everyone else can carry on as before. jfc

So a member of the neo-Nazi sect the Nordic Resistance Movement stabbed a woman to death earlier today during Almedalsveckan, the biggest political event in Sweden, on which they have had a presence for the past few years. The police claim, however, that there is currently 'nothing indicating that the attack was politically motivated'. This is of course sensible - save for that it was carried out by a neo-Nazi who's an active member of a neo-Nazi organisation that encourages their members to carry knives and supports 'lone wolf' actions explicitly, during their week-long anti-Semitic propaganda campaign at the heart of Swedish political life, nothing about this stabbing is political.

I love how Wellington paranormal is a quirky show about c0ps that manages to sail right past copoganda with the basic premise of: what if your local useless police were just as bad at handling the Paranormal as everything else?
