Fruit French Toast
My Toffee Sugar-cinnamon Oats Cookie Pub dish seems to be to become the favorite from the period thus far on the blog post. Quick, well-balanced, and fascinating, tasty lentils combine well along with poached eggs for a easy and simple meatless food alternative. My rut has been actually morning meal for a while ... that's been actually Clif bars + coffee + a piece of fruit more or less every morning for 2 full weeks! I must point out, this club sandwich is actually oh therefore scrumptious by itself and that does not require much accessory. Spicy beans, guac, wild rice, and hot sauce is all this should be actually a delectable dish. If you purchase lobster tails and have all of them steamed at the fish counter, this traditional New England club sandwich comes together in a piece of cake. The best thing is actually a little bite" or even something light-I looove an excellent sorbet or a little fruit on the tail side of a dish. They are actually best straight out of the oven yet they also ice up unbelievably properly (for this reason, my 1 biscuit each day breakfast fixation). A service charge might ALWAYS be consisted of, however I understand few business who really discuss the fee out with their waitstaff ... When Chez Panisse went to 'company compris' (partially, to match the pay in between the kitchen space and flooring staff), the service charge on the costs was actually thought to become the amount that would certainly be recompensed to the staff such as much higher wages, and wages were actually increased accordingly. I would enjoy to have your input on factors like dishes and style and permit you the possibility to view a number of the backstage things that is actually been accompanying this factor already, so I've made a Dash of Yum VIP Team group on Facebook! Thanks David, I adore your weblog, and also your suggestions concerning homes in Paris, I am going to aim to rent out among all of them eventually this year, and afterwards attempt your spots to manger suggestions! I wish you appreciate these incredible outdoor camping breakfast recipes on your following experience! Put a comma just before the ultimate combination in a series, having said that, if an important component of the collection requires a combination: I had orange extract, tribute, and also pork and also eggs for breakfast. The best aspect of this planning is actually exactly how every one of the dishes are easily accessible as well as free for your enthusiasts. These morning meal biscuits are fabulous (as are you!!) Delicious, quick and easy as well as therefore fast to make, plus all those oatmeals actually assist my lactation ... I prefer I had this recipe a year ago when I was actually beginning to nurse practitioner my son. The drink was actually a pure satisfy, and makes certain to knock the belts off any person that is utilized to the run-of-the-mill mocha cappucinos that specific company coffeehouse appear. A taste of sausage bind on a roast meat as well as Boursin sandwich is actually truly rather incredible! http://sanatate-si-frumusete.info between morning meal and also effective weight loss is actually only an association - as our team saw in the previous message concerning red meat, associations could not confirm that A results in B. These informal houseboats have a comfortable cocktail lounge where big windows supply magnificent perspectives and an eating region where you'll delight in morning meal as well as lunch time, disregarding the serene waters of Vembanad Pond. Our company enjoyed our tofu food near Kiyomizu-dera at Okutan (総本家ゆどうふ奥丹清水), a tofu restaurant that was founded greater than 375 years earlier in 1635. Consume way too much on a little sausage as well as it provides you the contrary of a brain-freeze;-RRB- Their super-secret recipe is preservative-free so regretfully, you may just purchase this in their apothecary-esque outlet in the center from Ghent, and also they always caution you to refrigerate that promptly! But I have always been interested in well-balanced options so I am on your website everyday checking out what you must deliver and locate myself making vegetarian dishes nearly evry night I remember going through that you are actually certainly not huge into food planning, (and not that you talked to ha!) but I will really love to see some example every week food selection ideas to assist navigate developing properly pivoted vegetarian meals! Breakfast is actually eggs & bacon, vegetable egg scramble, or entire dairy yogurt along with berries. The moment I found they were shallots, I have actually never used red onions or scallions once more in a homemade tossed salad or even on a club sandwich. I was needing an egg replacement for morning meal when I went vegan utilizing one thing aside from tofu. Originally seeming in a problem from 1997, this Cinnamon-Apple Pie is among our most really loved dishes and could be served as treat or even a morning meal coffee covered. I have actually made this for morning meal everyday for regarding a week now, and also I am actually totally crazy! Even that are going to keep our company in breakfast bratwurst for a while, which is a beneficial thing, given that there is a great deal that could be performed with this. Good points regarding being actually busy - if I cease to think of it, that is actually the key differentiator between not eating on the weekend break (when I am actually outside exercising or running assignments or even whatever) as well as the weekdays (when I'm standing at my workdesk throughout the day with meals as an adjustment of pace).

Ketogenic Diet Foods to Avoid
by Noline
I see a ketogenic diet as a lifestyle and I would have liked to say that there are no foods to avoid on a ketogenic diet. In an ideal world I would have told you to eat any food, but just eat all foods in moderation. That is kind of what we are told all the time. Isn’t it?
The reality though is that there are plenty of foods that we should never have eaten in the first place and now to just say eat them all in moderation is therefore not a valid or useful argument.
Whilst on a ketogenic diet the foods to avoid can be summarized as all sugary and starchy food. This is a topic I intend to cover only once, as I prefer to focus on what we should be eating and doing, rather than what we shouldn’t be. If you feel the same and want to rather check out what you should be eating, then check out our list for a comprehensive shopping list and our ketogenic diet checklist that summarizes it all.
Now, let’s look into the different categories of food we shouldn’t be eating and why.
Ketogenic Diet – Foods to Avoid
Foods to Avoid
Sugar and Candy
Pastries and Baked Goods
Grains and Starches
Legumes
Starchy Vegetables
What About Fruit?
Dairy
Packaged and Processed Snacks
Drinks
Sugar and Candy
Avoid all sugar. This may sound easier than what it really is as sugar is added into most sauces, processed foods and even canned vegetables. But let’s start somewhere…
All table sugar no matter the color or type
Any food with added sugar including all processed food
Fructose – Sugar found in fruit
Jams and preserves
Most sauces – Check labels carefully
Most salad dressings
All syrups
Honey
Molasses
High-fructose corn syrup
All candy bars
All cotton and hard candy
Pastries and Baked Goods
You need to cut these all, but it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy healthy alternatives.
Pastries
Brownies
Cakes
Cookies
Donuts
Muffins
Really all traditional cakes
Grains and Starches
I know for most people this is a tough one as we are so used to grabbing a sandwich. It is a big one though.
All rice – white, brown, basmati
All pasta
All breakfast cereals
Barley
Millet
Oatmeal
Amarath
Quinoa
Spelt
Rye
Couscous
Muesli
Corn Starch
Flour from any of the ingredients above
All whole grains
All foods made from any of the above like:
Pizza
Tortillas
Croissants
Pancakes
Waffles
Porridge
Legumes
Legumes and beans are not allowed on a ketogenic diet. This makes it much harder for vegetarians and vegans to follow.
Lentils
Chickpeas (No hummus)
Baked beans
Black beans
Pinto beans
Kidney beans
Lima beans
Starchy Vegetables
These vegetables are not allowed as they all raise blood sugar and insulin.
Potatoes
Sweet potatoes/yams
Squashes and butternut
Corn
Peas
Beets
Carrots
What About Fruit?
Rather than list all the fruits that we shouldn’t be eating on a low carb diet. Check out the list of the fruits we can eat here…
Not being able to eat most fruits makes me somewhat sad, but when I focus on how well I feel when my insulin levels are under control, I really am okay with it. I do have the occasional fruit, maybe an apple or a kiwi fruit.
I have cut down completely on my fruit intake, except for berries and lemon, but occasionally I have a strong craving for bananas. When this happens I have them. I know I can also look for a different source of potassium, but I feel strongly that a keto lifestyle requires me to listen to my body and that when my body tells me strongly that I need something I listen.
These cravings are different to the out of control cravings I used to have when I fueled my body with sugar and starchy carbs.
If I had to go on a starch binge tomorrow and have cravings after that, I will know what they are. They are very different to my body’s real need for a nutrient that I may have neglected.
One of the big benefits of removing these highly addictive foods from my diet, is that I no longer have out of control cravings.
Dairy
Dairy is allowed on keto. But it is mostly cream, butter and some cheeses. Always make sure that they are full cream.
Flavored milks and yogurts
Low fat or skimmed milk and yogurt
Milk or yogurt with added sugars or sweeteners
Ice cream
Cottage cheese
Full cream milk (Limit because of natural sugar content
Packaged and Processed Snacks
Who doesn’t love popcorn? And now that we know we should bee eating butter, it sounds really tempting to have popcorn with lots of butter. But off course butter is only good for us when it is not eaten with carbs. So let’s have a look at what snacks to avoid on a ketogenic diet.
Popcorn
Pretzels
Potato and tortilla chips
Rice cakes
Flavored and coated nuts
Cheesy and flavored crackers
Granola and breakfast bars
Protein bars
Any boxed or packaged snacks
Drinks
The best drink on a low carb diet is water. Sugar laden drinks have lots of carbs and lots of sugar.
Sodas
Diet sodas
Juices
Flavored teas and coffees
Frozen coffees
Milk shakes
Sports and energy drinks
Cordials
Root beers
Cocktails
Beers
Wine
Malts
Alcopops

10 Amazing Health Benefits of Dates
Tumblr media
Palm Date Benefits For Weight Gain
1. Boost Energy
Dates are high in natural sugars, so if you need a quick burst of energy mid-day, instead of going for a second cup of coffee go for a handful of dates. Or, if you don’t like ’em plain, whip up some energy balls or oatmeal bars packed with dates to fight the mid-day slump.
2. Relieve Intoxication & Prevent a Hangover
Did you have one too many tropical rum cocktails on your beach vacation? Pop a few dates when you get home (or carry them with you while you’re out). The high concentration of fructose in dates is thought to help speed the metabolism of alcohol and could bring relief if you’re feeling the effects of one too many drinks. If you still end up with a hangover the next morning, try having them as a snack when you wake up. These other hangover remedies work, too.
3. Strengthen Bones
Most people know that getting enough sunlight and foods with vitamin D is vital for bone health, but the combination of minerals like magnesium and copper that are packed into dates make them a superfood for strengthening bones, too. Whether you are looking to fight off existing osteoporosis or bulk up your bones as a preventative measure, dates could help. These cranberry date bars are perfect for cooking on Sunday and snacking on all week long.

4. Relieve Constipation
Another one of the benefits of dates is that they are high in soluble fiber, which promotes healthy and comfortable digestion. If you’re suffering from constipation, try incorporating dates into your diet and don’t forget to drink extra water. Try out this smooth date shake for dates on-the-go.
5. Promote Heart Health
Consistently making heart-healthy dinners is one way to help your ticker, but dates are high in potassium, which is essential to keeping your heart health in tip-top shape, too.
6. Reduce Inflammation
Magnesium is a mineral known for its anti-inflammatory properties, and you can definitely get your share of it in dates! A study with over 3,700 participants showed that a diet rich in magnesium was associated with a lower concentration of markers of inflammation in post menopausal women. Turmeric can also help reduce inflammation.
7. Reverse Anemia
If you’re iron-deficient, dates are a great way to help you get back on track. A single serving contains about 1 mg of the necessary mineral. Give this lemon date couscous a try for a healthy, iron-rich meal. (It’s even vegan!)

8. Encourage Weight Gain
If you struggle to put on pounds, dates are a healthy way to increase your body weight. While they’re packed with nutrients, they’re also packed with calories. A serving of four dates clocks in just shy of 270 calories.
9. Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth
If you’re the type of person who can never get enough sugar, dates are a great alternative to unhealthy treats. Keep a pack on hand to help curb your cravings for cookies, candies and other sweet stuff.

10. Lower Cholesterol
If you’re looking for a way to bring your cholesterol down, dates are good source of soluble fiber, which can help reduce cholesterol as part of a healthy diet. These natural foods can lower cholesterol, too.

Chocolate Chip Pecan Cinnamon Rolls
Tumblr media
Ingredients
For the Rolls
2 1/4 oz packages active dry yeast
1 cup buttermilk, warmed to 110 degrees F
1/2 cup butter, melted and cooled
1/3 cup sugar
1 teas salt
2 eggs
3 1/2 - 4 cups flour
For the Filling
1/2 cup peacans
1 cup nutella, warmed but not hot
1 teas cinnamon
1/2 cup chocolate chips (I used dark chocolate chips)
For the Glaze
3 oz cream cheese, softened
1 tbsp powered sugar
1 tbsp buttermilk
1/4 teas hazelnut bakery emulsion
1/2 teas cinnamon
Preparation
For the Rolls
Mix the yeast in a mixing cup with the warmed buttermilk and allow to sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
Meanwhile, whisk the butter, sugar, salt, and eggs in a large bowl.
In the bowl of your stand mixer, fitted with the paddle attachment, add 2 cups of the flour and make a well in the center for the buttermilk. Pour the buttermilk-yeast mixture and the butter-egg mix and start mixing slowly adding in the remaining 1 1/2 cups flour, 1/2 cup at a time.
Knead on low for 5 to 10 minutes until the dough forms a ball. Add the remaining 1/2 cup if the dough is not coming together.
Transfer the dough to a grease bowl, cover and allow to rest in a warm dry area, until doubled in size, about 1 1/2 hours.
Turn the dough out onto a clean working surface sprinkled with a bit of flour. Divide in half and roll out into a large rectangle
For the Filling
Toast the pecans in a preheated oven at 400 for 5 to 7 minutes, until fragrant. Remove, allow to cool, and chop.
Spread the nutella filling evenly over the rolled out dough., leaving an inch on a long end to roll. Sprinkle with cinnamon and chopped toasted pecans.
Tightly roll towards the edge that has been left clear, and cut into equal portions.
Arrange the rolls in a grease baking dish, cut side down, and cover.
Allow to rest, 45 minutes to 1 hour, until risen again.
To Make the Chocolate chip Pecan Cinnamon Rolls
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Bake the cinnamon rolls for 25 to 30 minutes, until golden and cooked through.
Remove from oven to cool
Make the Glaze
While the chocolate chip pecan cinnamon rolls are cooling, whisk the softened cream cheese with the powdered sugar, buttermilk, hazelnut bakery emulsion and cinnamon. Spread over the cooled (but still warm) rolls and sprinkle with more toasted chopped pecans for serving.
Adapted From
Alternatively, you can line a cast iron pan with parchment and bake the rolls in cast iron.

Spa Day at Miraval Tucson
Hi friends! How are you? How was your Thanksgiving weekend? Did you shop the Black Friday sales? We braved World Market, Home Goods, and the BX, and other than that, I shopped online. I ordered some leggings and long-sleeved tops/sweaters from Gap, these furry J. Crew slippers, and today, I’m ordering all of our holiday gifts. Other than that adventure, I’ve been spending time with the girls (we did an arts and crafts festival, crepes, the park, the children’s museum, and baked cookies), watching Christmas movies on Netflix, decking our halls with all the holiday decor, and enjoying Sushi Sunday. (It’s a thing now.)
For today’s post, I thought I’d share a recap from our day at Miraval last weekend! My friend Betsy came to visit as a birthday surprise, so we thought a spa day would be the perfect way to celebrate. We checked out Canyon Ranch and Miraval, but since I’ve stayed at Canyon Ranch a handful of times (and worked there for 2 years!), we figured we’d switch things up and try Miraval.
When we arrived on property, I instantly noticed the Zen vibe. Everything was incredibly clean and beautifully designed, and they had peaceful streams running throughout the massive desert landscape. We checked into the lobby, received our free tote bags and water bottles, and then grabbed a quick snack at the juice bar.
This snack bar is open all day and serves sandwiches, small bites, oatmeal (with lots of toppings!), coffee drinks, fresh juices, housemade bone broth (YES), and smoothies.
I grabbed a decaf coffee, green juice, and an oatmeal, topped with protein powder, lots of chia seeds, and a little maple syrup.
After our snack, we headed to our first class.
Our spa day serendipitously corresponded with dance week, so I was PUMPED to take some dance classes while we were there! (My friend Todd, who owns BreakOut studios, was one of the dance instructors and his classes set.my.soul.free.) I took a Bollywood class with Russel, which I LOVED, and then a Rock n’ Roll class with Todd. We danced to “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen, and it was amaaaaazing. While I was dancing my little heart out, Betsy took a lecture about stress management that she really enjoyed.
Then, it was time for lunch!
They had an incredibly healthy buffet-style spread set out, including soup, salad with so many toppings and protein options, roasted veggies, different types of sweet potatoes, healthier desserts, muffins, breads, pork posole (the special of the day), caprese, and pickled veggies. I piled my plate with salad, veggies, chicken, sweet potatoes, and pickled veggies, and got the asparagus onion soup (which was really, really good).
After lunch, we took a circuit and strength training class,
and then headed to a session about taking better pictures with your smart phone. After that, it was my favorite part of the day: we got tea and chilled in a relaxation room in the spa. It has comfy couches, chairs, and blankets, and large windows, so you get an incredible view of the mountains. It felt so luxurious to just lie around for a little while. As someone who’s always moving or looking for something to do, especially during the day, this just felt like pure heaven.
We took some quintessential robe pictures (ha),    shopped in the gift shop (I grabbed a shirt for the Pilot and a super cute Miraval beanie)
and hung out in the hot tub for a while. (I drank a mug of their bone broth with cayenne, salt, and lemon juice, and it was awesome.)
In the evening, Miraval has their bar set up with tacos and appetizers (including a full bar with cocktails and organic wines), so we grabbed a little snack and had our spa treatments. We both went for the grounding massage, which is purely head, feet, and hands. It was AMAZING. Also, the massage therapist kindly rubbed some arnica on my foot where I’d dropped my Hydroflask on it earlier in the week.
While we were at Miraval, I realized how long a day truly is. I feel like so often the days FLY BY. We wake up, a thousand things happen, and then we go to bed. This was such a great reminder to truly take advantage of time and stop looking for excuses to always be busy. Since our trip, I’ve taken more time amidst the chores and to-dos to stop and just enjoy. I also realized how important it is for me to have relaxation or mental health checkpoints to look forward to. I looked forward to this spa day (and a weekend of hotel sleep!) for a couple of months. When things felt stressful and really crazy, I knew I’d get to sleep/relax at some point in the near future, and that gave me a little boost to get through it. I’d been feeling pretty drained on multiple fronts, and this put some pep in my step.
Miraval is a magical place and I think I’ll be back sooner than later. I’m also so happy that I got to enjoy a weekend with my BFF Bets.
So, which is better: Miraval or Canyon Ranch?
They’re both incredible places to visit if you’re looking for a spa day or a getaway to focus on health and wellbeing. They’re similar but very different. The program offerings are different – I’d check out schedules at both to see what activities and spa treatments you’d prefer – and the vibe/accommodations are also very different.
Some of the major things I noticed:
–  Alcohol. Canyon Ranch does not serve alcohol, which is great if you’re looking to detox or you’re on a program to eliminate alcohol, but for those who’d like to partake, it can be a little bit of a bummer to not have a cocktail on vacation. When I worked at CR, guests would often just bring their own wine and drink it in their rooms. If we would have stayed the night, I definitely would have had a cocktail with dinner at Miraval; the bar menu looked fantastic.
– The vibe. The vibe at both properties is very different. Miraval feels very peaceful and healing, while Canyon Ranch has more of a gentle energy to it. At Miraval, I just wanted to lie in the nap room all day, and at CR, I always want to take as many classes as possible. I heard that Miraval has a strong focus on mental health, which was prevalent during our time there. Canyon Ranch has a full Life Enhancement Center focused on specific medical conditions and weight loss. Canyon Ranch also has a medical staff on hand. I did a quick google search and it doesn’t look like Miraval has a medical staff.
– The people. This was interesting, but I didn’t see a ton of people around who worked at Miraval. The lady who worked at the juice bar was wonderful, but I didn’t see a lot of staff around. This was kind of nice, because I didn’t feel like people were hovering over me, but I also got lost while I was walking to the gym and there was no one to ask. (I ended up asking another guest after wandering aimlessly for a little while and she showed me the way.) Also, I didn’t find the few people we did encounter to be overly friendly (or what you’d expect at a health resort). One of the girls who worked in the lobby acted annoyed that we couldn’t find the photography class (we were with a few other guests who also didn’t know where it was) and the instructor for said class was kind of rude to one of the guests who arrived late. It was just unexpected. At Canyon Ranch, you pretty much can’t walk 30 ft without seeing a staff member.
– The food! I really, really loved the appetizers, bar area, and the juice bar at Miraval. Sometimes at Canyon Ranch, I’d ask for extra food at lunch or breakfast to pack up and keep in my room for later. Sometimes you get hungry and there isn’t really anything open. It was really convenient that you could get a healthy snack, bone broth, juice or smoothie, whenever you wanted it. While I loved the healthy buffet at Miraval, I do like the option to order off more of a set menu at Canyon Ranch (or you could have a casual lunch at the cafe or more formal lunch at the dining room).
All in all, I feel like you can’t go wrong no matter what you choose. It was a great experience at Miraval and I’m excited to have this as an option for when I need a little bit of Zen in my life. I’ll probably make it back to Canyon Ranch eventually too, especially since I’ve heard they’ve made a lot of changes and added new classes since I’ve been there.
I hope you have a very happy Monday! Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today.
If you had a day to do whatever you wanted (no chores, work, kiddo-related tasks, or events), what would you do?

A free 7-day, flexible weight loss meal plan including breakfast, lunch and dinner and a shopping list. All recipes include calories and updated WW Smart Points.
7-Day Weight-Loss Meal Plan
It’s funny, I keep seeing posts on social media about how long January has seemed, but getting settled into the new house has made it quick for me! I love having instant pot/pressure cooker recipes on hand for nights that I am super busy!
WW has changed their plan to now include a Blue, Purple and Green Plan. All the recipes on my blog are updated for the Blue plan. I’ve been updating all my recipes (over 2000) and have completed 2019 with the other two colors, and I am working my way down so please be patient.
Why Should Everyone Meal Plan?
Meal planning is a great way to organize your meals for the week ahead. You also save time and money in the supermarket! And of course, planning ahead helps you stick to your goals!
About The Meal Plan
If you’re new to my meal plans, I’ve been sharing these free, 7-day flexible healthy meal plans (you can see my previous meal plans here) that are meant as a guide, with plenty of wiggle room for you to add more food, coffee, beverages, fruits, snacks, dessert, wine, etc or swap recipes out for meals you prefer, you can search for recipes by course in the index. You should aim for around 1500 calories* per day.
There’s also a precise, organized grocery list that will make grocery shopping so much easier and much less stressful. Save you money and time. You’ll dine out less often, waste less food and you’ll have everything you need on hand to help keep you on track.
Lastly, if you’re on Facebook join my Skinnytaste Facebook Community where everyone’s sharing photos of recipes they are making, you can join here. I’m loving all the ideas everyone’s sharing! If you wish to get on the email list, you can subscribe here so you never miss a meal plan!
Also, if you don’t have the Skinnytaste Meal Planner, now would be a great time to get one to get organized for 2020! There was a print error last year, but it’s perfect now! You can order it here!

Dry January and Sugar Detox
This post is about a Sugar Detox I’m currently doing, plus Dry January. If you think this would be a sensitive or triggering topic for you, please skip the rest of this post and I’ll see you back soon! Read on for more about our experience, what I’m doing, and some of my favorite recipes when I’m doing a sugar detox.
Hi hi friends from a few days into Dry January and a Sugar Detox. This is something I often do after the holidays as a chance to get back to basics. I find that the holidays are generally an avalanche of delicious sugary treats and cocktails, and by this time of year, I’m usually more than ready to eat a vegetable or two. It’s usually a sign that I’m ready to get back to whole, basic foods when an apple tastes like water. After cutting out sugar for a while, it brings back foods’ inherent sweetness and I also remember why I like to fuel my body with as many fresh, whole foods as possible. It makes me feel so much more energized!
I definitely wanted to ditch out on sugar because my ultrasound is next month. While I know the end result is out of my control, I wanted to take any actions possible to encourage a good result. Crossing my fingers!!
You can check out a recap of a previous sugar detox here!
Here are the things I’m focusing on this month:
– Fresh produce and plant-based options (lots of berries, greens, apples, dates, citrus, non-starchy veggies)
– Lean protein (mostly chicken and fish with the occasional grass-fed steak)
– Healthy fats (chia, flax, almond butter, nuts, seeds)
– Whole grains (mostly rice and oatmeal) and smart carbs (like starchy veggies and sweet potatoes)
Here are the things I’m avoiding, which I’ve mostly stayed away from since my gallbladder attack:
– Fried foods (I loooooove french fries and am still having them occasionally because I need to live, but not super often)
– Gluten
– Dairy (Skipping dairy is easy for me because it kills my stomach. On my cheese boards, I like to include at least one or two nut-based cheeses)
– Alcohol
– Eggs (if I get a good result and don’t need to have surgery, I’m going to start having eggs again once or twice a week because they’re my favorite food… just not 2-3 per day like I did for at least 5 years haha)
A sample Sugar Detox shopping list is here:
– Fruit (berries, apples, bananas, dates)
– Veggies (carrots, cucumber, bell pepper, anything I want to grill or roast that week, sweet potatoes)
– Leafy greens (I switch it up each week but usually go for spinach, romaine, kale and/or arugula)
– White or brown rice
– Oatmeal
– Almond butter
– Chia seeds
– Nuts and dried fruit for homemade trail mix and oatmeal toppings
– Protein (chicken, salmon, canned tuna, Beyond Meat sausage)
– Seite tortillas, Paleo waffles, cauliflower gnocchi
– Salad dressings (I love Primal Kitchen), salsa, and dip (guacamole and hummus are my faves)
– Protein powder
What can you eat on a sugar detox?
Here are some of my go-to faves:
Pre-breakfast:
I always chug at least 8 oz of room temperature water when I wake up. I’ve heard of people adding lemon juice or sea salt for electrolytes, but plain water does the trick for me.
Then, I’ll have one of the three following things depending on how much time we have:
Decaf coffee with 1 scoop collagen, almond milk, and monk fruit to sweeten. I whisk everything up with this milk frother, which was one of my favorite purchases of 2019.
Green juice! I’ll use apple, spinach, cucumber, celery, mint, and lemon. This is my favorite pre-breakfast option. It gives me a ton of nutrients to start the day, hydrates me, and then I can wait a bit to have a real breakfast since I’m running around in the morning.
Morning detox drink. This is another fave for years! Liv says it smells horrible but I think it tastes great and the ingredients have a ton of benefits.
Breakfast:
Chickpea scramble
Fab four smoothie
Oats with chia, flax, Truvani protein powder, berries, and almond butter
Chicken tacos (it sounds weird but it’s so good for breakfast! I use Siete tortillas, leafy greens, leftover chicken, salsa and guacamole)
Breakfast cookie or baked oatmeal. These are great to make in advance and the kiddos love them, too.
Lunch:
Big salad with chicken (I cook it in the Instant Pot) and a sweet potato. My favorite dressing is the homemade Ranch from How to Not Die cookbook or the Primal Kitchen dressings (ordered from Thrive Market).
Daily Harvest bowl with tuna or leftover chicken
Daily Harvest smoothie with Truvani protein or collagen added
Soup! This is a staple during the winter. My go-to recipe is here! I usually just throw a bunch of ingredients into the Instant Pot. Recently, I made an awesome one with carrots, onion, ginger, lemongrass paste, and coconut milk.
Dinner:
Dinner is a bit all over the place and some of our healthy dinner staples are in this post.
Some more faves:
– Sunbasket meals (<— my link gets you $40 off your first shipment!). I still get these for two dinners each week. It’s an easy way to get something nutritious on the table fast when the Pilot is away. I also love that I can add pantry staples and meat to our shipment, like collagen nut butter, carrots, snap peas, crab cakes, jerky, Perfect Bar bites, and different dips. Their vegan spinach-artichoke dip is amaaaaazing.
– Ina’s skillet roasted lemon chicken. The family loves this one and it makes the house smell like Thanksgiving.
– Oh She Glows Kale Caesar
– PaleOMG cauliflower gnocchi soup
– Herb-roasted salmon
– Mediterranean chicken bake
As far as Dry January goes, I decided to do this to help out my gallbladder. The liver and gallbladder are BFFs so if one is having a hard time, it’s going to affect the other. I don’t drink alcohol too often anymore – wine maybe once or twice a week – but really want to give my GB the best chance going into the ultrasound. I’m having champagne the night of the ultrasound, no matter the result lol.
Do you have any fitness or nutrition goals you’re working towards? Want to join me for a little sugar detox for the rest of the month?
If you’re looking for some extra fitness motivation, join in our HIIT Bootcamp! The fun starts on January 13th. You’ll get follow-along videos, a full fitness schedule to follow, bonus meal ideas, and group accountability. Enter the code FIERCE to get the month challenge for $34. Spaces are limited and enrollment closes on Sunday – click here to join.
Happy Monday and I’ll see ya soon!

Ed. Note: Looking for breakfast in Memphis? Stacey has this rundown of places to eat breakfast in Memphis. There’s even a map to help you find your breakfast destiny.  Updated December 2019 It used to be slim pickings for a good breakfast in Memphis, especially if you were short on time or averse to standing in line. Now our cup runneth over thanks in part to these most excellent options. Here’s the list – in no particular order.  The Liquor Store Stacey Greenberg The Liquor Store, Broad Avenue’s latest addition, is a diner with a Latin flair and a full bar. They serve all of the breakfast classics all day, seven days a week. In addition to eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns, and pancakes, they have vegetarian meats, homemade biscuits with shittake mushroom gravy, and a sweet potato hash that’ll actually make you feel like you started the day off making a healthy choice. The Liquor Store has hot coffee, a full bar, homemade pie and even lunch and dinner items available at breakfast. Check their Instagram for weekend brunch specials. Read more here.  City Silo Table + Pantry City Silo (formerly known as the Cosmic Coconut) in the Sanderlin Center is another breakfast-all-day place, though note that they are closed on Sundays. The best thing about City Silo, is that everything is fresh and healthy. courtesy of City Silo All dishes start vegetarian, but can have your choice of cheese, egg, or chicken added. The best breakfast seller is the McSilo, which is a toasted English muffin with marinated tempeh, egg and cheese. There are also a host of smoothie bowls, Greek yogurt bowls, and toasts. There are also so many liquids to choose from. Their smoothies, juices, super shots, coffees, wellness lattes and kombucha cocktails are all a great way to start the day. Stacey Greenberg  Bluff City Coffee Now with two locations (South Main and Cooper-Young), it’s twice as easy to get breakfast at Bluff City. The star of the menu is the warm breakfast sandwiches with your choice of meats and cheeses and breads. A plain bagel with egg, bacon and cheese becomes extraordinary in their hands. Their espresso based drinks are also good for a jolt, and available with almond or coconut milk if you prefer. Stacey Greenberg Never fear, those with a sweet tooth can have their choice of housemade pastries, including a Nutella “Pop Tart,” cookies and muffins. They also have smoothies. Best of all? The Cooper Young location opens at 6 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. on Sunday. Stacey Greenberg  Sunrise Memphis The Medical District has a funky new addition thanks to the owners of Sweet Grass and Central BBQ–The Sunrise Cafe. The name is no joke. Early risers (or really late night partiers) can actually see the sun rise over their breakfast since they start serving at 6 a.m. every day. (They stop serving at 3 p.m.) Biscuit sandwiches are king here and three varieties (sausage, chicken, and bacon, egg & cheese) are wrapped and ready for you to grab on the go. There are a few fun items like the Three Amigos Taco, the Korean inspired Bi Bim Breakfast, and the hearty Chef’s Breakfast bowl. Healthy eaters may want to give the King’s Breakfast a try: it’s oatmeal, maple syrup, peanut butter, sliced bananas and coconut bacon. There’s J. Brooks coffee available hot, cold, and even on tap. And, true story, they serve one heck of a Beermosa (Miller High Life and OJ). Edge Alley Edge Alley, next door to High Cotton Brewery in the Edge District, has evolved into a full service restaurant/bar, but it is still a breakfast seeker’s dream. Homemade biscuits, fresh eggs, and thick cut bacon are all elevated and available with amazing coffee offerings like carbonated cold brew. (There are also coffee cocktails for those who like to start their day off with a kick.) Holly Whitfield The menu also features avocado toast, shrimp and grits, and fruit bowls. Open every day except Monday, they do it up extra special on Sundays with fried chicken biscuits and Fanta-mosas. Read more about the Edge Alley here. Leah Gafni Puck Food Hall A food hall is not unlike a food court, only it’s free standing rather than in a mall. Puck Food Hall is steadily getting its groove on, especially in the breakfast department. You can pop in and get a coffee from Doctor Bean’s or a breakfast sandwich from City Block Salumeria.  (Ed. Note: Holly here – I’m going to jump in and talk about a few more.) Rise   Rise is a mostly breakfast cafe at Saddle Creek in Germantown with about 15 locations in the southeast, and this location is the first in Tennessee.  They have donuts, biscuit sandwiches, and a few other lunch-y things.  Menu. 48 Hours in Aspen: The Ultimate Travel Guide
The ultimate 48 hour travel guide to Aspen, Colorado. I’ll show you where to stay, what to eat and what to do!
Last month I crossed a new destination off my travel bucket list: Aspen! While I’ve been to Colorado many times over the years, I typically always head to Denver, Boulder or Vail.
Not only was this my first visit to Aspen, but this was my first time ever skiing in Colorado! I couldn’t wait to find out how it compared to skiing in Park City and Banff. (I already knew it wouldn’t compare to skiing in Michigan, that’s for sure.)
Of course, I quickly learned that there’s so much more to Aspen than skiing. In fact, I can easily see why so many people love visiting Aspen year round, both skiers and non skiers.
To kick off my 48 hour travel guide to Aspen, let’s start with where to stay! After having such an amazing experience at the Limelight Hotel in Sun Valley, Idaho, I couldn’t wait to experience their Aspen property.
Right away I felt cozy and at home in their spacious guest rooms, each equipped with a fireplace. Music to this gal’s ear since I always seem to run a little cold.
Similar to Sun Valley, you can start each morning at Limelight Aspen with a complimentary breakfast buffet. Offering both cold and hot items, I was very impressed with the healthy options including hearty oatmeal, hard boiled eggs and fresh fruit.
To start your first day in Aspen, head to Four Mountain Sports where they’ll hook you up with ski and snowboard rentals.
Aspen has four ski mountains to choose from: Snowmass, Buttermilk, Aspen Mountain and Aspen Highlands. In general, Buttermilk has the most beginner runs and is the most family friendly. Snowmass offers a good amount of everything and is large so you never get bored.
If you’re an expert skier, head to Aspen Mountain or Aspen Highlands. Since I only ski out west about two times a year, I stick with intermediate runs. As a result, I spent my first day at Snowmass and my second day on Buttermilk.
What I loved most about skiing in Aspen is that the runs are so much longer than anything I’ve ever experienced in the midwest or anywhere else really. Each run would take 20-30 minutes to complete. A far cry from Michigan where you reach the bottom of the hill in 3 minutes.
The other thing that makes skiing in Colorado so special? BLUE SKIES! Offering 300 days of sunshine, there is nothing more beautiful or breathtaking that skiing through packed powder with sun shining on your face.
Ready for a bite of lunch while on the slopes? I have two great recommendations for you starting with Venga Venga Cantina and Tequila Bar located on Snowmass Mountain. The food was authentic and flavorful and the presentation was gorgeous. You can explore the whole menu here.
If you’re spending the day at Buttermilk, be sure to stop in to Cliffhouse Restaurant located right on the mountain. I travel all over the world for a living but it’s rare that I experience such incredible views from a restaurant.
The make-your-own Mongolian BBQ menu is a lot of fun and a great way to refuel during a long day of skiing. I decided to warm up with a rich bowl of pho which was out of this world.
After a long day of skiing, you might be ready to warm up with a hot cup of coffee. Local, a coffee shop in Aspen, is located right downtown just a few minutes away from Limelight. It’s the perfect place to pop in before heading back to the hotel.
When you’re ready to unwind, head back to the Limelight lounge for après drinks and bites. Pro Tip: Order their artisan pizza – it won’t disappoint.
On day two, head to Ajax Tavern located inside The Little Nell hotel at the base of Aspen Mountain to try out their infamous truffle fries. Everyone told me to go here and they were right – they are next level delicious.
When you get back to the Limelight, be sure to check out Aspen’s favorite local bands every Thursday through Monday from 6:30–9:30pm in the lobby. Learn more about menu selections and specials.
Not skiing during your visit to Aspen? No problem. For lunch options downtown, I have two suggestions starting with Clark’s Aspen.
Open year round, Clark’s Aspen offers a wide variety of seafood (think: oysters, lobster rolls, whole roasted fish, etc.), sandwiches, soups and more. It was one of my favorite meals of the trip.
Another great option for lunch downtown is Pyramid Bistro. A nutritarian restaurant, each dish on the menu offers as much nutrients as possible per calorie. How incredible is that? I was blown away by the curry dishes and the fresh rolls.
If you’re looking for a sweet treat in Aspen, look no further than Paradise Bakery. They’ve been serving their famous cookies since 1976 and I’m here to tell you – they are soft, chewy and perfectly balanced with salt and sweet. I decided to buy a bag to bring home to my boys.
For dinner, I have a couple options depending on what you’re craving. If you’re a sushi and Asian food lover like I am, head to Kenichi. Pro Tip: Order the shishito peppers. You’ll be glad you did.
Offering a small plates menu of sushi, sashimi, salads, entrees and more, every dish was inventive and flavorful.
My second dinner recommendation in downtown Aspen is Meat and Cheese Restaurant. Located on Restaurant Row, this gem is a hybrid specialty food store and restaurant.
While the menu offers everything from salads to sandwiches to entrees and more, my favorite were the share boards. The menu changes seasonally but I am confident you won’t be disappointed with whatever you order.
After dinner, before hitting the town, I highly recommended getting your namaste on at Aspen Shakti. Lucky for me, I happened to be visiting on a day that coincided with their Thug Yoga classes. If you love hip hop as much as I do, this class is a blast. Bonus: they include a complimentary beer from Aspen Brewing Company.
Want to skip the yoga and head right to the beer? You can do that too. Aspen Brewing Company is located right down the street.
Craving craft cocktails instead? Head to Hooch craft and cocktail bar located right on Restaurant Row.
Another great option for craft cocktails is Bad Harriet located inside the lower level of Hotel Jerome.
Since I firmly believe you can’t go wrong with a good Bloody Mary, make time to swing into the St. Regis also located downtown. Insider tip: every St. Regis offers their very own signature Bloody Mary recipe. You can sample the Aspen version or try one from around the world.
Last but not least, if you’re ready to end your day with a bang, head to Escobar, Aspen’s premier dance club. Featuring a live DJ most nights of the week, this is the spot to go if you’re ready to get down with your friends.
While I didn’t spend much time shopping during my visit to Aspen, that’s always a great option if you’re not into skiing.
There are certainly no shortage of shops and the entire town is extremely walkable and pedestrian friendly. PS: Notice all that sunshine in my face? Gotta love Colorado!
What cities would you like to see me cover next? Leave a comment below to let me know!
Your passport is waiting.

Happy December everyone! If you haven’t started your Holiday shopping yet, perhaps some of these ideas from my Holiday Gift Guide will inspire you. Also, my site is moving servers Monday so there is a chance it may be down but hoping it won’t. Just to play it safe, you may want to print out any recipes you plan on making Monday. Lastly, next Sunday I will be doing a book signing in Long Island, December 9 from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Stew Leonard’s in East Meadow, NY. Hope to see some of you there!
Everything is Weight Watchers friendly, I included the updated Weight Watcher Freestyle Points for your convenience, feel free to swap out any recipes you wish or just use this for inspiration!
