archery is such a beautiful sport! i'm new here so forvige me if you have talked about it before, but would you mind sharing a bit about how you got into it? you looked cool af on the weekend pics

my husband and i used to be powerlifters and martial artists (him: karate and me: aikido) and also ummm huge fucking nerds so one day we were just like dude our close range stats are pretty good, we should work on our long range stats

and then luckily there was a shop that did lessons in the next city over so we took lessons and then covid happened so we couldnt go to the gym/dojo anymore so we just started shooting alot bc that was outdoors lolololol

#now our original instructor is like one of my best friends #and her husband is my bow guy #and then we joined a club and were encouraged to do competitions and stuff #and now we shoot to rep our club in nationals and stuff :D #its been v fun and fulfilling to just like #travel w ur buddies and stay in crappy motels and shoot all day #u shoot enough comps and u start recognizing ppl who come in from different cities and states and stuff #and i fucking love archers so much #theyre all so aloof and strange and offputting but are actually so aggressively friendly and caring

This is pretty interesting to me, beause for some reason I was under the assumption that July 21 being the twins' birthday was an invention of Stampede, but here it is in '98! (Don't remember the first 3 volumes of the manga mentioning it, unless I wasn't paying attention. Which means '98 would be the first mention of it!)

This also confirms that Trigun takes place in the year 131 (at least in '98s canon) and that Vash lies about being born in 104, thus claiming he's 27. I wonder if year 0 is when the Big Fall happened, thus actually making him around 132.

There's some other interesting stuff here, like his height being 7'20" (which sounds... pretty improbable. Maybe he's exaggerating on purpose?) and his blood type being listed as type O (the universal giver!). I wonder if Plants have the same blood types like humans do to begin with... maybe they're all type Os? Who knows. "Occupation: Love hunter" and "Notes: Pacifist" are pretty cute though.

Thinking about Blue Eye Samurai again but has anyone talked about how horrifying guns are in the series. Like how scary it must have been to be part of a nation that knew nothing but swords, suddenly having to face a whole army equipped with a weapon that can easily kill someone from far away. Even if they were very rudimentary at first and nowhere near as efficient as modern firearms, you see all the Japanese warriors die so quickly when Fowler's men start attacking, and they barely manage to kill but a few of his soldiers… it's genuinely frightening, and kind of sad to realize that if it weren't for the fire, Fowler would have gotten his way with no effort
