Heralds of Summer
Swifts are one of the most important signs of summer for me. Their sound and the sight of them flying overhead is a big part of summer. In my childhood home a swift couple made their nest below the eaves every year - and they still do. In Finnish folklore swifts and swallos were thought to be kin to humans because their flying form vaguely resembled a human form. They were also important signs of spring and summer and a lot of positive things were associated to them.

Common Swift (apus apus)
The scientific name "apus" comes from from Ancient Greek α, a, "without", and πούς, pous, "foot" - "without feet" - from the ancient belief they were a form of swallow that lacked feet. They spend the majority of their lives in the air, feeding, drinking, sleeping and even mating on the wing. Some Common Swifts can go 10 months without once landing.

Собственно стриж и подоконник после сеанса кормления)
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
[Но сразу после успешного разделывания сверчков я столкнулась с фактом совершенного неумения своего раскрывать консервные банки.]

This buddy flew into our house twice, once it just flew in here and made u-turn and flew out, on the second time it struggled to get out of our balcony via a small hole. My sister tried to give it some bread and then water.
Later we googled it and learnt that it’s Swift and they eat only bugs. So yeah.

Oh I completely forgot about this with how the episode ended but can we talk about Lincoln trying to reverse psychology Taylor out of assuming the role of god and how funny and cute that was? He knows him so well your honor.

Ok so I have this classic f1 wing au spinning in my brain like a microwave and i want to share
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had so much fun reworking the entire concept of formula one to make a new sport that makes sense for wing people listen i went a bit crazy. Jet pack races. It’s jet pack races. Except they’re crazy high powered and the racers use their wings to steer, and the g forces are just as insane as they are in the cars, but more deadly since all that pressure is being put on bare, barely protected wing. The engineers are competing to make the smallest lightest jet pack and to push the fine controls, trying to get every advantage while limited by the racers soft and squishy nature when it comes to speed.
Tumblr media
It’s the 70s so of course safety precautions are kinda pathetic, but eventually the undergarments develop to protect the neck in case of whiplash and the jet packs themselves get emergency release capabilities. I haven’t thought through the mechanism for supporting the racers wing along the length to protect from tearing when a turn is entered at the wrong angle…
Hopefully I’ll figure that out. There’s more coming, cause a couple racers just Spoke to me in regards to getting matched with certain birds.
