And the challenges? They're not just about battling it out in space. Every decision you make could change your society's destiny. It's all about facing new situations and making tough choices. Especially since you're flirting with the mind of the machine. "The Machine Age" doesn't just stop there. It brings to the table three new origins for your empire: "Cybernetic Creed," "Synthetic Fertility," and "Arc Welders." Each one has its own unique backstory and gameplay. Doing so in a society where cybernetics is like a religion, or a world where the only hope to avoid extinction is going digital. And then there's a robotic society, hungry for space and resources. To top it all off, we've got new reactive portraits, six fresh Civics, and two mid-game structures. Including the molten Arc Furnace and a powerful Dyson Swarm, new Population Traits, and seven new music tracks to give you the ultimate vibe. So, to sum it up, "The Machine Age" is not just an expansion; it's a whole new playing field. It's about exploration, not just of space, but of what it means to be alive in a universe where the lines between machine and life are blurred. They're blaming demons & trans for Christian school mass shooting
COMMENTARY:
This is the result of the Trickle-Down Extremism of the white supremacist agenda of the John Birch Society dating back to William F. Buckley and his campus strategy for isurgency, sedition, polarization, constitutional sabotage and the treason leading to the January 6 political coup.
If you understand Hegel like William F. Buckley understood Hegel, his treachery will become transparent. If you put the Gideon Bible outside your room, the chances are you don't understand Hegel like William F Buckley understood Hegel and are likely not to  recognize your own complicity in the white supremacist agenda of the January 6 Republicans in Congress and your own unintended role as a useful idiot for Steve Bannon, Newt Gingrich and the Nazification of America.
We are all guilty but if you are woke, you can learn to prevent your own unintentional future complicity on that trajectory.
For example, you are exactly correct about Trump and the January 6 Republicans like James Comer and Gym Jordan are all about projection. Keep the spotlight on that reality but shift your focus to Biden's %7 Trillion capital budget that will launch the Green New Deal by 2028. It is important for the woke voter to understand Biden's vision of the future by where he proposes America invest it's resources to get the biggest bang for the buck.
The Green New Deal will complete the paradigm shift Eisenhower set into motion with his 1956 Presidential Platform to mobilize America for WWIII by transforming the Military Industrial Complex to the Star Wars Economic Ecology of 2001: A Space Odyssey at the core of the Green New Deal that will sustain a permanent lunar colony for the next 100 years, if not the Epoch.
And at the core of the Star wars Economic Ecology Eisenhower envisioned is Bernie Sanders social safety net. By 1956, the US Army had a great deal of experience with the social engineering of American constitutional capitalism beginning with George Marshall's reform of the Genearl Staff in 1942 to include G5: Civil Affairs, bases on his experience of the failure of Reconstruction in rural Virginia while he was at VMI and the failure of the League of Nations to mitigate the cultural conditions that incubated Hitler, and the emerging success of the Marshall Plan in creating the most powerful economic engine in history associated with the Atlantic Charter. George Marshall's contribution to military arts and sciences is hsi doctrine of nation building as a military solution that completes Clausewitz's Paradox.
When you come to understand Hegel like William F. Buckley understood Hegel, Clausewitz's Paradox will reveal unequivocally just how  badly Biden fucked up by not rejecting Trump's unilateral surrender to the Taliban. After January 6, Biden had every justification to overturn everything he inherited from Trump. beginning with Trump's surrender to the Taliban  as part of his re-election campaign, and. possible, given subsequent events, his intention to fulfill John Bolton's agenda to abandon the Atlantic Charter, pull out of NATO and the United Nations in order to achieve the objective of the John Birch Society to adopt hegemony as our foreign policy. Biden's withdrawal from Afghanistan under Trumps tuerms of surrender accelerated Bolton's program.
However, that's spilled milk ad we can't waste time trying to put that particular Humpty back together again. . More imporatn in the here and now of Hegel is to prevent Steve Bannon and Newt Gingrichto continue to employ the apparatus of the January 6 conspiracy to create more Humpty Tragedies. We need to stop the Trickle Down Extremism from the bottom up by shifting to the top-down imperatives of Biden's $7 Trillion capital budget. For one thing, it is essential to shift from the cash flow budgeting of the Supply Side Economics of the John Birch Society that has been engaged in sabotaging the federal government since Reagan came to town with the white supremacist political activists like Pat Buchanan, Steven Miller and Roger Stone and their cocaine, champagne, limousines. their racism set to 11 and committed to transforming the National Mall into a White Supremacists Theme Park. beginning with Wayne Newton on the 4thof July. It is time for the woke voters to recapture Washington DC and  neutralize the Nazification of Reaganomics and Tucker Carlson's version of January 6.
If you understood Hegel the way William F. Buckley understood Hegel, you would realize that Eisenhower's design for the mobilization for WWIII was based on the creation of Bernie Sander's social safety net and that William F. Buckley's 1960 Charon Statement was a political manifesto committed to preventing Eisenhower's design from succeeding by a subversive white supremacist agenda to overthrow the federal government and to elect a clone of Joe McCarthy to become a dictator like Trump's Presidential Platform. Critical Race Theory isn't about pay=backs: it's an important of Biden's pay-forwar Build Back Better $ 7 Trillion capital budget.
The future of Trump and the January 6 conspiracy is to blow up America like in Atlas Shrugged. If you understood Hegel the way William F. Buckley understoon Hegel and Clausewitz, you'd connect the dots between the color of Marge Simpson's hair and MTG.

Protect Your Organization From Social Engineering Attacks & Security Breaches
Tumblr media
RMail is SMART technology that actively hunts attacks that are already underway so you can swiftly dismantle them before they strike.
“War is politics by other means,” wrote the famous military theorist, Carl von Clausewitz, back in the early 19th century, which was a time when wars were fairly limited, low tech, and almost gentlemanly affairs. Tell a Ukrainian today that Russia’s invasion of their country is simply another form of politics, and I don’t want to be around to see their response.
Just as warfare has evolved to become an almost unthinkably complex system where every civilian is on the frontline, so has the field of e-security. “Cyberwar” was once an abstract sci-fi concept in the realm of comic books, and “cyberattacks” were once mostly a nuisance – like when your geeky nephew loaded a virus onto your computer (via floppy disk) that flashed an ASCII text version of a skull and crossbones.
Now cyberattacks are routinely government-crippling fiascos that are perpetrated by governments themselves as well as well-funded organized crime networks. The combined cost of these attacks now runs annually in the tens of billions of dollars. Just as the threat has evolved, so has the response. Therefore, we predict that 2023 will be less about passive prevention and more about active threat hunting.
Going back the warfare analogy, consider the Iron Dome, Israel’s air defense system developed to intercept and destroy short-range rockets and artillery shells targeting civilians. The Iron Dome uses radars to track incoming threats and determine their trajectory. It then fires interceptor missiles to destroy the threats in mid-air before it strikes. This system has an impressively high success rate of around 85%, so long as your house is not in the vicinity of the other 15% of missiles that get through.
Last year, we introduced the concept of preemption with regards to RMail, and we drew a distinction with the term prevention to describe the nature of our Eavesdropping™ alerts technology. To reuse the war analogy, the difference is that a preventive war is launched to destroy the potential threat of the targeted party, when an attack by that party is not imminent or known to be planned. A preemptive war is launched in anticipation of immediate aggression by another party. Thus, RMail can’t prevent attacks (because there’s no way to realistically destroy all cybercriminals), but it can preempt the inevitable attack.
These inevitable social engineering attacks are becoming increasingly sophisticated and frequent. This new breed of attacks calls for a shift in the approach to preempt them. That is why we’ve recently introduced our Active Threat Hunting approach, which can be thought of as RMail’s Iron Dome — a SMART technology that actively analyzes the life of email as it circulates around and identifies when a sensitive email is being acted on by a cybercriminal as a precursor for their onslaught.
Note that RMail’s Email Eavesdropping™ alerts not only protect your organization from falling prey to social engineering attacks including wire fraud and simply mistakenly paying invoices to the wrong (criminal) person; but they also spot security breaches beyond your email borders, at the recipient, which is relevant to those scenarios where the impostor cuts you out of the communication, resulting in your recipient miswiring funds meant for you, sent to a cybercriminal. Email Eavesdropping™ alerts work seamlessly within any existing email security or email system.
Wow. All this talk of warfare, Iron Domes, missiles, and cyberfraud (in addition to the awful weather we’ve been having in California) has gotten me in a bleak mood. Let’s wrap this up with some uplifting factoids:
Sea otters hold hands when they sleep.
Norway knighted a penguin last year (and his immediate family too).
Cuddling loved ones helps release oxytocin, which is known as the happy hormone.
As always, feel free to contact us to discuss how RMail and its Email Eavesdropping™ alerts will give you peace-of-mind (you’ll sleep like a sea otter!) in this rather unsettled world.

Bio-Hybrid Warfare
This ongoing pandemic has brought about a fundamental change of rhythm on the entire planet; it is worth summarizing a few. The complete and uncontrolled financialisation of has provided for a very deep fragility of the productive systems of most countries: Anglo-Western countries’ economies have exposed themselves to increasingly irrational and unguided processes of fluid capitali accumulation that have devastated the real economy; in this sense, real production has been subsumed in processes of “value extraction”, rather than “value production”. The free, unstoppable generation of new forms of money as part of the securitization dynamics has imposed on workers, value-producing industries and assets the implacable onslaught of privatisation, speculation, delocalisation, and short-term/ very short-term profit strategies designed to inflate virtual portfolios, which in turn are re-invested in financial transactions which have no connection to the real world if not for the mentioned destructive processes. It is a long topic about which much could be said. But is notable that this pandemic has appeared at a moment of peaking international tensions and increasingly convinced pushes for a multipolar order surpassing traditional military and economic confrontations, but also encompassing cultural ones. China, India, Russia, and maybe a couple others; these are the contenders. In this context, the multitude of analysts which for the past few years have investigated (with varying success) the nature of Russian hybrid warfare, might now have to check for not just hybrid warfare, but Bio-Hybrid Warfare (that is, the Biological factor as part of a wider hybrid strategy, not viceversa). The currently dominant but heaving military culture of the West has proven its inadequacy in more than a few occasions in the past decades, but this new (alleged) method of warfare might be prove even more difficult to grasp. The fundamental mark of Bio-Hybrid Warfare would a holistic view of international confrontation that shies away from direct military conflict, preferring instead to confuse and misdirect enemy attention while it struggles to discern whether an attack is even taking place. This is the direct opposite of Western style Clausewitzian military culture, which disregards the political or economic aspects of warfare a priori or contents itself with studying just the technical part of warfare; thence the emphasis on seeking resolutory field engagements (or grand battles) as the means to restoring the pre-existing order of political interaction between actors. Clausewitz himself stresses the importance and separation of war and politics as two contiguous yet separate parts, which are strictly connected but always operate in separate modalities: when there is war, there is no politics; where there is politics, there is no war. This precept has moulded the military culture of most Western countries regardless of nationally-specific approaches to warfare; in the end, the objective of military confrontation from a Western point of view is the return to the political compounded by a definitive settlement (in strategic or tactical terms), and an end to the use of military “tools”. Grand battles at the apex of grand campaigns are the the apex of tension and the resolutive topos of this understanding of warfare: troops deployed - at my command, unleash hell. This is naturally a deeply chivalric military culture, which applied in a post-Westphalian competitive environment amongst states generated this very approach. It is however an outdated culture that is unable to grasp the emergence of new threats and new modalities of warfare in the current era; it is also centered on the understanding that conventional warfare IS the prime means of confrontation between legitimate/established powers - while forces recurring to non-conventional/asymmetric means are by definition ILLEGITIMATE (see Afghanistan, Iraq, Hezbollah, etc.). Chinese military and strategic culture is almost the opposite of this; it is a culture that is inherently Machiavellian in its understanding of the warfare-politics dichotomy: warfare is inherently political, and politics is inherently war-like. Both aspects coexist, and strategic superiority is obtained through the thoughtful calibration of the right combination, according to the specific context examined. The basic of this approach is evident in the earliest treatises produced ever since the Warring States period - starting with the overquoted and underread works of Sun Tzu. It is the unbreakable union of the wu (the military) and the wen (the civil), which always coexist, unlike in the Western tradition; Maoist concepts of “People’s War” have been understood in different ways outside of China, but there is no doubt that ancient Chinese authors have been rediscovered and fully integrated in the philosophical and strategic culture of post-1948 China. Regardless, Covid-19 has shown just how destabilising a rarely fatal but highly contagious virus can prove to “open societies” and a neoliberal democratic order. The complete social and economic devastation that has been unleashed on Western democracies has marginalised vast swathes of the population, while also having made evident the inherent flaws of the system and having obscured its advantages. Whether or not China unleashed this plague out of malice and with intent, or out of incompetence and neglicence is entirely irrelevant - it does not matter who starts a war, what matters is who intends to fight it. As things stand, the West has completely lost this engagement out of the sheer inability to understand this as an engagement in the first place.  The intra-EU squabbling and bickering, the chimera of European solidarity, the requisitioning of medical goods by the US and Germany even as southern Europe was sinking into pandemic chaos, the non-existant EU coordination structures, etc. This is the reality of Bio-Hybrid Warfare, i.e. the use of unconventional means and measures applied to a biological event (be it engineered or not). Mobilisation of internal energies, leadership through charisma, confidence in institutions and the state, economic and social cohesion, etc. In these and many other indicators, the West has lost. The supposed “First World”, the neoliberal society supposedly spearheading humanity into a future of post-human utopia has been incapable to coherently operate and coordinate. Whether this may give way to future application is for posterity to see. Like all battles, this one was won way before it was ever fought.

To paraphrase Clausewitz, no plan survives contact with a billion dollars. ~ duckandorpenguin ------------ "In those early days, Google lived as goole.standard.edu, and Brin and Page were convinced it should be nonprofit and advertising free. 'We expect that advertising funded search engines will be inherently biased towards the advertisers and away from the needs of the consumers,' they wrote. 'The better the search engine is, the fewer advertisements will be needed for the consumer to find what they want.... We believe the issue of advertising causes enough mixed incentives that it is crucial to have a competitive search engine that is transparent and in the academic realm.'" ~ Eli Pariser, "The Filter Bubble: How the New Personalized Web Is Changing What We Read and How We Think"

Dark Horses 6
So, what are the Xhost? Now, so long after they have left the stars it's a question that can be asked.
The Xhost were an idea that became a cult, if humans are more durable and Rhul are faster and Biviladi are more adaptable to environmental changes what if instead of celebrating the diversity we examined the discrepancies and found a common ground?
A noble thought, corrupted, corrupted into the Xhost where races were genetically modified to be a bit of everything, differences were no longer celebrated as part of a more fantastic whole but instead were vilified as non-conforming.
To the Xhost purity was required, variation was the enemy.
Kovac sat against the wall looking at his friends, Wolf shook his head and turned to Dorman for support.
"No," said Kovac, " you both have opinions and you're both entitled to them, but you're wrong.
It's as simple as this. Iron man is the greatest superhero, all those with superpowers built in can fuck right off, if your solution to a problem is punching harder then you're not a solution. Iron man's super power is thinking better than all of the others, he figures stuff out, after that his inventions win fights. All the other smart guys either have powers or their limited, I mean Batman isn't a one man army. Reed Richards works stuff out then relies on being Mr Fantastic to solve the problem.
Also Tony fights butt naked and the rest don't."
Kovac looked at his friends and smiled at their faces, "look it's this simple, your mind, the human mind is the greatest weapon in the galaxy. Now the second lesson I have to teach you is this simple, no matter what your taste in music one song needs special attention."
"We Will Rick You, by Queen will be remembered as a Pride song but it shouldn't be. What really matters is the solo or fade out; that piece of guitar play by May...everything else is just delivery for that.
Finally, if you're not happy, watching bad television at 0400 with you're partner then you're relationship won't last, if their presence doesn't bring you joy then move on.
Right that's about it, that's my life time knowledge, guess we should see this out then." Kovac stood.
Outside the Xhost forces had swept across the continent.
"Major, you know that the General will mobilise to defend us, even with the bones of a brigade. Major General Michaela Jones will be here," Wolf said.
"I know Wolf, the question has always been how do we drive the Xhost back? They control more sectors than the Rhul and the Flet together, they control more planet's than the Korlax."
"They've never defeated the Galactic Council forces though." Dorman countered.
"Well that's not strictly true, they've never won a war against the GCDF but they've always required mobilising core divisions and I hate to say it but that means human troops, we're the backbone of the GCDF without our presence the Xhost have seen success."
"You really don't think we can save the Towoli? Or the EDC?" Wolf asked morose.
"With a squadron of combat engineers? No." The Major was terse in his response.
Captain Becca looked out at the gathering darkness, "three days to capture the Towoli and secure the cities, so on the fourth day they turn around and hit the EDC, they're dug in now, so they last, maybe another four days and then it us. In this position we can last, maybe three days. That gives the Major-general two weeks, to raise at least a brigade and to get to us..." the question hung in the air unasked.
Kovac puffed out his cheeks, and rubbed his right forearm. "Remember in the 88th there became this belief that I'd pull it out of the fire, everytime it looked impossible odds you'd hear the men, "trust in kovac" I have that faith in Michaela Jones. Our only job right now is to keep open this beach head so she can land the troops. Now I've shared my life's wisdom with you, who has any other nuggets to share?"
Sergeant Major Panther had her own meeting with her sergeants, the needs of various troops and sections were discussed and the talk turned to how long they could hold out, "Captain says three at a push, but knowing the Major, if say closer to five."
"It'll take them a week to roll the Towoli and the EDC so by the end of the second week it'll be all over," said Sergeant Webb.
"No, you're forgetting Webb, we've got Kovac, 'keep calm and trust in Kovac' I've been saying that for over ten years now and I'll keep saying as long as he keeps earning my damn faith." Knickers glared at her fellow sergeants, "what was it he always said? It's us, it's us the 88th, well now it's us the Dark Horses but it's still us, we're still the real first in last out and we're still fighting fit and fucking ugly, Kovac will know what to do and when he asks us to do the impossible we'll deliver."
Panther grinned, "Exactly, so get out there and tell that to the men, wipe their little faces, help them blow their noses and smack the heads that need smacking, we are the Dark Horses and we will do what is needed."
"Except the Major is sitting there saying the same about the General," Webb said, "you all know I love the man, he's personally saved my life four times that I can count, if anyone can save us he can...but he isn't trying to. He's not even mentioned trying to save the Towoli and the EDC, he's said we use them as cannon fodder. Our hope is that we get rescued by the woman we walked away from to follow Kovac."
The sergeant-major stared at her sergeants, she seemed at a loss for what to say.
"I'll keep my faith thank you Webb. You're not wrong, yet, but I'll put my trust in Kovac."
Corporal Grey was growing weary of banging heads, the men were despondent and grumbling. The leader they trusted beyond all others was finally cornered and they could all see it. He watched as Captain Dorman walked away from the Major looking down-trodden, after a few steps the officer managed to organise himself and he straightened his shoulders and put his head up...keeping up appearances.
"I hear you're out of ideas and we're all fucked," said a coarse voice behind Kovac.
"Hello RQ," said Kovac without turning round, "and do you believe it?"
"Of course not, you need extra arms for all the tricks up your sleeves," scoffed the Quartemaster, "but they do, the rank, which I'm guessing is the point."
"They're good people, good people don't become monsters without falling down first, I need them to be monsters, they have to lose hope so when I throw them a cobra for a life line they grab it."
"What's the plan troop?"
"The secret to Xhost success is that the Xhost have their own supply of fuel, took us a while to realise what it was, now they use a variety of tricks but the basic component is Phosphene gas, toxic and smells like rotten fish half the time. So the finest galactic scientists looked at how they could inhibit their engines, how they could stop the Xhost fuelling their war machine, they failed. Then a human looked at it, her solution was deemed too heinous, the very suggestion caused humanity some problems, as we were suddenly seen as viscious and evil."
"What was her solution?"
"Chemistry, it's beyond me but...have you ever heard of White Phosphorus?"
The Qm blanched, "really!? That's your solution?"
"Turn their fuel into chemical weapons, I just need men desperate enough to agree to it."
"Kovac..."
Kovac turned to look at the Qm, "first time you've ever called me that, look, we can sit here and let the Xhost slaughter the Towoli and the EDC or we can act, to save innocent lives, maybe we need to be less innocent."
The Qm was quiet a moment and then sighed, "you think we have to?"
"I do."
"Alright then," she touched his arm and left him.
Kovac stared into the gathering gloom, "Clausewitz never finished and Ludendorff was a bastard who lost," he seemed to mutter to himself.
Later Kovac would say it was almost sad how quickly his men agreed to his plan, but they did. So within 6 hours his troops were prepared and moving out.
Before dawn the Dark Horses had returned to their fortifications, none of the normal a activities were on display, showing pride in a job we'll done. Instead the attitude was grim, an unpleasant job but one needing done.
Outside in the skies and on the ground, the Xhost burned, White Phosphorus burns on contact with air and it can burn even human flesh to the bone. Steel melts at half the temperature of burning white phosphorus.
I've seen artists renderings of the human construct of hell, the day the Xhost burned was brighter, hotter and there was more smoke. The issue of demons I'll leave to other scholars.
Ten days later Major General Michaela Jones landed with the 3rd army of the Galactic Defence Force to discover a smoking planet and the Towoli and EDC talking about burning skies and enemies vaporized in a wall of heat.
The Dark Horses, grim of face and closed in demeanour said nothing, they simply boarded and left with the advance ships into Xhost territory.
There is a phrase amongst those who study human kind, it's taken from their own old language, a term itself bastardised from an even older tale, "humans are space-orcs"
To humans it's funny, "the human can withstand the loss of a limb and is capable of feats of strength near impossible to other races, they fix metal into their mouths and inject their skins for aesthetic purposes...ha ha, fuck yeah we're space-orcs"
But to those of us who study, it means something different, orcs are the monsters of human fiction, rewritten and redefined they are brutal, barbarous and backwards. Their savagery and their lack of humanity is common in all their iterations. Orcs are the monsters humans see in themselves.
We space going species forget that humans may be like us in their hunt for answers but they got to this technology not through global cooperation but through war-driven advances and international tensions and competition.
They have only recently become the advanced global society we know, just under the surface lies the monster. Humans are Space Orcs.

So I know the Chemistry is a bit hinky here according to a chemist friend of mine what I've said is possible but not easily but...hey It's sci-fi.
Anyway this one ends in a dark place but it's where it went and I can't really pretend I know what I'm doing.
As always feedback is appreciated.

How to open CK2 files
If you cannot open the CK2 file on your computer - there may be several reasons. The first and most important reason (the most common) is the lack of a suitable software that supports CK2 among those that are installed on your device.
A very simple way to solve this problem is to find and download the appropriate application. The first part of the task has already been done – the software supporting the CK2 file can be found in the table. Now just download and install the appropriate application.
Program(s) that can open the .CK2 file
Windows
Possible problems with the CK2 format files
The inability to open and operate the CK2 file does not necessarily mean that you do not have an appropriate software installed on your computer. There may be other problems that also block our ability to operate the Commander Keen 2 Game Data file. Below is a list of possible problems.
Corruption of a CK2 file which is being opened
Incorrect links to the CK2 file in registry entries.
Accidental deletion of the description of the CK2 from the Windows registry
Incomplete installation of an application that supports the CK2 format
The CK2 file which is being opened is infected with an undesirable malware.
The computer does not have enough hardware resources to cope with the opening of the CK2 file.
Drivers of equipment used by the computer to open a CK2 file are out of date.

VSDX files are used in MS Office 2013 and newer, so you need the Microsoft Visio Compatibility Pack if you want to use the VSDX file in an older version of the software. VSDX files are structured differently than VSD files, which means you can extract some of the contents out without even needing any of these programs. If you are sure that all of these reasons do not exist in your case (or have already been eliminated), the CK2 file should operate with your programs without any problem. If the problem with the CK2 file has not been solved, it may be due to the fact that in this case there is also another rare problem with the CK2 file. How to associate the file with an installed software?
If you want to associate a file with a new program (e.g. my-file.CK2) you have two ways to do it. The first and the easiest one is to right-click on the selected CK2 file. From the drop-down menu select 'Choose default program', then click 'Browse' and find the desired program. The whole operation must be confirmed by clicking OK. The second and more difficult to do is associate the CK2 file extension to the corresponding software in the Windows Registry.
Is there one way to open unknown files?
Many files contain only simple text data. It is possible that while opening unknown files (e.g. CK2) with a simple text editor like Windows Notepad will allow us to see some of the data encoded in the file. This method allows you to preview the contents of many files, but probably not in such a structure as a program dedicated to support them.

What are some reasons why people may not like The Art of War by Sun Tzu or How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie?
COMMENTARY:
It is axiomatic that it requires 100,000 casualties to produce a Field Marshall or General of the Armies. This necessity of the profession of arms wil woven into the tapestry of the Art of War, Or it can also be acknowledged that the Art of War is woven into Clausewitz. The elegance of the engineering of warfare is lost on most general audiences.
As a practical matter, subsuming The Art of War into Gen. Gordon Sullivan’s Hope is Not A Method will enrich the professional calculus of the military executive.
My speculation is that individuals with as strong JUDGING preference in their personality are more likely to be attracted to the systematic nature of Carnegie’s self help course. In Business, executives who model their personal development on Benjamin Franklin are Carnegie’s natural market. People with a strong PERCEIVING preference would generally look for an easier way to achieve the same outcome.

About this game
Hearts of Iron IV is a grand strategy video game developed by Paradox Development Studio and published by Paradox Interactive. It is the sequel to 2009's Hearts of Iron III along with the fourth principal installment in the Hearts of Iron series. Like previous games in the series, Hearts of Iron IV is a grand strategy war game that focuses on World War II. The participant can take control of any state on Earth in 1936 or 1939 and direct them to victory or conquer other states.
Development
Hearts of Iron IV was declared in 2014 and has been initially slated to get a late 2015 launch. In E3 2015, inventive manager Johan Anderson verified that the match could be pushed back from the first release window, together with the newest release date being scheduled to its first quarter of 2016. This was an effort to solve several problems encountered with the game. In March 2016, it was announced that the game, built with the Clausewitz Engine, would be released on 6 June 2016, which is the 72nd anniversary of the Normandy landings.
NOTE: In the beginning you are confronted with a lot of new information in Hearts of Iron 4. Our tips and tricks can help you understand the basic mechanics. You can of course support your raid with other means. Read our Cheats and Console Commands Guide for Heart of Iron 4.
Major countries
Nations in HOI4 are major nations or even minor countries. In a warfare, a faction is only going to surrender when all of its engaging major nations capitulate. Important Powers refer to people with the maximum variety of factories, either over the top 7 or even 70 percent of the average of the best 7, upgraded monthly. Nations can't shed their key standing while in war. Faction leaders can also be considered important nations.
The Significant nations in 1936 are:
United Kingdom
Italy
United States
Japan
Germany
Soviet Union
France

CUSTOM GAME ENGINES: A Small Study A couple of weeks ago I played (and finished) A Plague Tale, a game by Asobo Studio. I was really captivated by the game, not only by the beautiful graphics but also by the story and the locations in the game. I decided to investigate a bit about the game tech and I was surprised to see it was developed with a custom engine by a relatively small studio. I know there are some companies using custom engines but it's very difficult to find a detailed market study with that kind of information curated and updated. So this article. Nowadays lots of companies choose engines like Unreal or Unity for their games (or that's what lot of people think) because developing a custom AAA-level engine requires lots of resources, so, I decided to list here some of the most popular custom engines with the team-sizes and notable titles released with those engines. Most of the engines listed here have been developed along the years with multiple iterations and multiple videogames, those engines have gone through several versions or even complete (or semi-complete) rewrites from scratch, with a consequent engine name change. Also, important to note, most of those engines use numerous middleware for specific functionalities (Platform, Physics, Network, Vegetation, UI, Rendering, Audio...). *NOTE: I tried to be as much accurate as possible with the information about the employees count (I checked the companies websites, Wikipedia or company LinkedIn) but take it with a grain of salt (some employees numbers could not be up to date). The BIG Companies *From left to right: Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Final Fantasy XV, Red Dead Redemption 2 Below list is for very big corporations, sometimes with complex corporate structures with several divisions (not only focused on videogames) and various studios/subsidiaries developing games. Some of them work with multiple engines, not only custom ones but also licensed ones. Company Employees Studios Engine(s) Notable Games Activision/Blizzard ~9200 ~9 custom engine(s) Call of Duty series, Overwatch, Starcraft II Electronic Arts ~9300 ~36 Frostbite 3 Star Wars Battlefront II, Anthem, Battlefield 1/V, FIFA 20, Need for Speed series Ubisoft ~16000 ~54 AnvilNext 2.0 Assassin's Creed series Disrupt engine Watch Dogs series UbiArt Framework Rayman Legends, Child of Light, Valiant Hearts Snowdrop Tom Clancy's The Division 2, The Settlers Dunia (CryEngine-based) FarCry series Silex (Anvil-based) Ghost Recon Wildlands LEAD engine Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell series Dunia-based The Crew Capcom +2800 ~15 MT Framework Monster Hunter: World RE Engine Resident Evil 7, Devil May Cry 5, RE2:Remake, RE3:Remake Konami +10000 ~30 Fox Engine Pro Evolution Soccer series, Metal Gear Solid V Square Enix +4600 ~18 Luminous Studio Final Fantasy XV Nintendo +6100 ~8 custom engine(s) Zelda: BOTW, Mario Odyssey Riot Games ~2500 ~3 custom engine League of Legends Rockstar +2000 ~9 RAGE engine GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2 CD Projekt +1100 ~4 REDEngine 3 The Witcher 3 Epic +1000 ~11 Unreal Engine 4 Fortnite Usually those companies invest in custom engines to have full control over the technology and also avoid the revenue cut imposed by the licensed engines. Despite that fact, there are some big companies that in the latest years have chosen Unreal Engine for their productions, the most notable cases are: Capcom is using Unreal for the new Street Fighter IV/V titles. Bandai Namco latest big hits are using Unreal: Jump Force, Dragon Ball Fighter Z, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Tales of Arise. Square Enix also moved to Unreal for several new titles: Dragon Quest XI, Kingdom Hearts III, Final Fantasy VII Remake It's interesting to see that those big three are Japanesse companies, I wonder if that's maybe a market trend for Japan. Also to note, the chinesse holding Tencent owns 40% of Epic Games, I bet it has some influence in the Asian market. Middle-size Studios *From left to right: Rise of the Tomb Raider, Uncharted 4, A Plague Tale Here we have the medium-small companies that decided to create their custom technology for their titles. The number of employees could be a nice reference to consider because a custom game engine is usually developed in-house (I mean, not outsourced) but note that some of those companies could have a big number of people due to in-house artist/audio teams, while other companies out-source those parts of the development. It would be really nice to know how many engineers are working on the engine division for each company, I'm sure there would be some big surprises, probably by the low number of engineers working in the engine and tools! Also interesting to know more info about the tooling included with those engines, it's really difficult to have access to that kind of information. Engines tooling is usually a hidden-secret (beside some GDC presentations or some quick showcase videos). *From left to right: Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, Death Stranding Company Employees Engine Notable Games Creative Assembly +650 Warscape Engine Total War series Bungie ~600 Tiger Engine Destiny series Infinity Ward +500 IW 7.0 Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Eidos-Montréal ~500 Dawn Engine (Glacier2-based) Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Paradox Interactive +400 Clausewitz Engine Imperator: Rome Bethesda ~400 Creation Engine Skyrim, Fallout 4, Fallout 76 Valve Corp. ~360 Source 2 Dota 2, Half-Life: Alyx Crystal Dynamics ~350 Foundation Engine Rise/Shadow of the Tomb Raider Avalanche Studios ~320 Apex engine Just Cause series, Renegade Ops, Mad Max, RAGE 2 Naughty Dog +300 Naughty Dog Game Engine Uncharted series, Last of Us Rebellion Developments ~300 Asura engine Alien vs. Predator series, Sniper Elite series Techland ~300 Chrome Engine 6 Dying Light Crytek ~290 CryEngine V The Climb, Hunt:Showdown From Software +280 Dark Souls engine Bloodborne, Dark Souls III, Sekiro Remedy +250 Northlight Engine Quantum Break, Control Guerrilla Games +250 Decima Killzone Shadow Fall, Until Dawn, Horizon Zero Dawn Platinum Games ~250 Platinum Engine NieR Automata, Bayonetta, Vanquish Santa Monica Studio +200 custom engine God Of War series id Software +200 idTech 6/7 Doom, Doom Eternal, Wolfenstein series Sucker Punch +200 custom engine Infamous Second Son, Ghost of Tsushima? Kojima Productions use Decima engine, developed by Guerrilla Games, for Death Stranding, previously they used Fox Engine for Metal Gear Solid V. Media Molecule latest game/engine (Dreams) seems to have been developed by only ~15 coders, amazing! Companies targeting one single platform, usually have less restrictions and can push the limits of that platform. Unfortunately, that's a luxury that most companies can not afford. Asobo Studio, the company that originated this market study is not that small... but, like other companies, they seem to work in multiple titles in parallel. Very nice to see that some of the engines have entries in the Wikipedia with some details and titles released, it should be a must. Small-size Studios (Indie Studios) *From left to right: The Witness, No Man's Sky, X-Morph Defense Here we have some really small studios that also choose to develop a custom engine for their games. Note that most of those engines rely on other libraries/frameworks for certain parts of the game, the common choices we find are SDL (cross-platform graphics/input), OGRE (rendering engine), MonoGame (cross-platform game framework, also relyes on SDL, SharpDX, OpenTK, OpenAL-Soft...). One question many people could ask is, what parts of the engine are actually coded by the developers? Well, it depends, but usually coders take care of the screen-manager, entities-manager and content-manager as well as the wrappers/interfaces to the external libraries. Second question, what parts of the engine usually rely on external libraries/middleware? It also depends on the company resources but usually audio-system, physics, rendering, networking, ui-system, terrain-system, vegetation-system and some other pieces. *From left to right: Factorio, Thimbleweed Park, Owlboy On the following list (and the next one below) I added the publishing date (only +2012) and the link to Steam for all the games... there are not many games with custom engine from small studios out there and I think they deserve to be recognized and supported. Company Employees Engine Notable Games Shiro Games ~30 Heaps.io Northgard (2018), Evoland (2013), Evoland II (2015) Hello Games ~25 No Man's Sky Engine No Man's Sky (2016) Frictional Games ~25 HPL engine SOMA (2015), Amnesia series DrinkBox Studios ~25 custom engine Guacamelee (2013), Guacamelee! 2 (2018), Severed (2016) Supergiant Games ~20 MonoGame-based Hades (2019), Pyre (2017), Transistor (2014) Wube Software ~20 Allegro/SDL-based Factorio (2019) Chucklefish ~20 Halley Engine Wargroove (2019), Starbound (2016) Ronimo Games ~17 RoniTech Engine (SDL) Awesomenauts (2017) Runic Games ~17 OGRE-based Hob (2017), Tochlight II (2012) Lab Zero Games ~17 Z-Engine Indivisible (2019), Skullgirls (2013) Introversion Software ~14 SystemIV (SDL) Prison Architect (2015) Exor Studios ~14 OGRE-based Schmetterling The Riftbreaker (2020), X-Morph: Defense (2017) Tribute Games ~11 MonoGame-based Flinthook (2017), Mercenary Kings (2014) Thekla Inc. Hello Games is a very small studio considering the size of No Man's Sky and that they use a custom engine. Really impressive! Runic Games was dissolved in November 2017, the founders created Double Damage, now they are working on Echtra Games on Torchlight III. Rodrigo Braz Monteiro, Chucklefish CTO, is the person in charge of Halley engine, actually the engine is open-source! In most of those studios the people in charge of creating the game engine it's only 1-3 persons! Lo-fi Games was a one-man team (Chris Hunt) for more than 6 years! Some of the games in this list took +5 years of development! Not many games... a couple of hits per year... One-man custom engines *From left to right: Stardew Valley, ScourgeBringer, Eagle Island Finally, the list of the heroes. Games developed by 1-2 people with custom game engines, engines mostly coded by one person! Respect. Creating an engine and a game from scratch to the point of publishing it is an extraordinary accomplishment, not many people in the world is ready for that. Almost all of them are 2D games, usually with very small budgets and developed along multiple years. Congratulations to the developers! *From left to right: Axiom Verge, Ghost 1.0, Remnants of Naezith Some observations from this list: Some of those teams are formed by 1-2 people but probably grew at some point and/or outsourced some parts of the development (art, audio...). Usually the publisher also helps with some resources (localization, marketing...). Omar Cornut from Lizardcube is the main programmer for Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap engine and also the developer of Dear ImGui, a free and open-source immediate-mode gui library used by lots of AAA custom engines. Ben Fiquet from Lizardcube is also the main artist for Streets of Rage 4, the custom engine of Guard Crush Games is written by Cyrille Lagarigue. Marc Flury programmed Thumper game engine rejecting the OOP paradigm in favor of a procedural programming approach. Christian Whitehead is the creator of Star Engine used in Sonic Mania but Headcannon (Simon Thomley) and PagodaWest Games (Jared Kasl and Tom Fry) were also involved in the development of the game. Some of the games in this list took +5 years of development! Not many games... a couple of hits per year... There are some other remarkable games using custom engines (usually XNA/MonoGame) that worth mentioning: Minecraft (2011), Braid (2009), Super Meat Boy (2010), Terraria (2011), Dustforce (2012), Sword and Sorcery EP (2012), FEZ (2013), Dust: An Elysian Tail (2013), Rogue Legacy (2013), Dyad (2012), SpaceChem (2013). Conclusions I'll start saying I'm biased, I'm really passionate about videogames-making technologies and I admire custom engines and game-making tools. I also contributed to custom engines ecosystem with my grain of salt: raylib and several game-making tools. I prefer a custom engine over a licensed one, I consider that the extra amount of effort put into the product usually translates into some specific great mechanic or some amazing in-game details. Said that, I must admit that creating a custom engine is a big endeavour and not many people are ready for that. I recognize Unity (and Unreal to less extend) have really democratized videogames development, lots of small-medium size companies can use Unity today to develop games quicly and put them on the market, sometimes with very low budgets... But, still, lots of big companies prefer to rely on their own custom technologies. From my gamedev-teacher perspective, I think students must learn how engines work internally with as much detail as possible. Relying only on engines like Unity/Unreal for education to allow students develop eye-candy project in short-time is not the way to go. At the end of the day, someone has to write the engine and the tools! NOTE: Feedback and improvements are welcome! :)

Gray depicts the western military circles as having “put their faith in systems engineering methods and technological means” with a disregard for the appreciation of military history. Central to western military thought is the will to quantify and rationalize everything. Clausewitz already stated though that war is a clash of wills. If that holds true, it surely cannot be rational. Thus, in Grays opinion strategy is partly an art with eternal rules. The book Security Dilemmas, written in 2009, already deals with Irregular warfare in a separate chapter. His opinion on the matter is rather straight forward: War is war and strategy is strategy. He makes a brilliant argument that war in whatever shape or form abides by eternal rules which disregard the current military means and stay the same. He brings back the very important aspect which many strategists and military leaders alike have forgotten: Tactical and operational excellence is always desirable, even if not always necessary to achieve strategic success. This is clear recommendation for anyone who wants to challenge themselves about their thinking on strategy. https://www.instagram.com/p/B8a4K4Pog4f/?igshid=3moru3surjzg

Paradox finally did it, they announced Crusader Kings 3
Paradox finally did it, they announced Crusader Kings 3
I think I’d be well within my rights to say that Crusader Kings II is Paradox’s most popular grand strategy. While it wasn’t the first game to use the Clausewitz engine, it was decidedly less complex than Victoria II for new players. Also, Crusader Kings II’s blending of grand strategy with cutthroat character role playing was an intoxicating blend for budding megalomaniacs.
So it’s no real…
