Sam told Macca, Steph and Caitlin she was engaged by dropping a photo of Kristie with a ring in the group chat, so how does she tell them (and the other Tillies/Chelsea girls) she adopted Chook?
She drops a picture in all the chats of her holding baby Chook with the message 'isn't my baby the coolest?' and then proceeds to ghost everyone for the next day and a half

A quiet weekend
Saturday morning I met Marjolein for what will be our last ride for about 3 weeks. Tuesday she is off to meet up with the Othello tour to guide for the last week. We had a lovely ride and the grey, threatening skies eventually produced sun.
Marjolein beats me hands down in having a chat with anyone. She had just finished telling me the life story of a couple she had stopped to ask directions from after I left her on our ride last Thursday when we rolled through one of our regular towns. She had told me in the past that inside one of the stone cottages was a mill. It was our lucky day that as we passed we saw the old man that owns it coming out. So of course Marjolein stopped and said she had been in to see it before and would he mind if I took a look 😗
He happily took us inside and it was amazing. There was a mill with like a channel around it where the horse walked to push the mill. This was how they ground down the olives. There was then a press which sent the oil into a channel which was then steamed to seperate the oil from any remaining sediment. It was absolutely fascinating and really did feel like it should be a museum piece with story boards.
Back home we had our usual Saturday rotisserie chook for lunch. The Mums were suitably impressed with how nice it is. Mum’s got a bit of a cold so it was a relaxed afternoon watching some cycling, reading and for me more study 😬
A quiet night at home eating up left over rice from yesterday’s lunch 😋
Saturday night the wind started and it blew all day Sunday at around 40-45km gusting up to about 70km. Needless to say this pretty well kept us inside. Jose and I went out for a few bits and pieces in the morning and Jose did venture out for a mtb ride with Martijn late in the afternoon.
The Mums looked happy watching Spanish movies and MasterChef while Jose and I watched the Ronde de Vlandereen. In the evening Marjolein and Martijn came over for drinks. It was great the the Mums got to meet them both.
A very Spanish evening had us sitting down to dinner after 9pm 🤣

Selecting Gold Is Straightforward
youtube
Licenses, registrations: Regulatory licenses should be obtained to function as a gold IRA company. One may think about a fairly fascinating regulation go well with out of actions like this (mind you, I am not a lawyer, and I do not play one on Tv). The brand new strategy ought to be to give attention to eradicating the reliance on gold. Next week, we'll have a look at laborious options that can change the gold promoting landscape for the better, giving players more options on the subject of in-recreation perks and eradicating the sport's reliance on gold as a technique of content gating.
Tumblr media
If you already have a brokerage account arrange then these will be some of the convenient options for you. Gold has been a symbol of wealth and stability for hundreds of years and continues to be a sought-after funding in the present day. Mr Gibb stated Griff, who boasts a 6ft (1.8m) wingspan, had been frightened by something whereas his enclosure was being cleaned. For one, you could comprehend what you can withdraw tax-free once you get to the age of fifty nine 1/2. Aside from tax obligation benefits, gold Individual retirement accounts can help you diversify your financial investments in addition to stay clear of rising value of dwelling hazard. This range tucks sufficient of your Portfolio into secure haven assets to weather Inflation or high curiosity charges. The principle benefit of buying by means of trade chat is that you could often negotiate a greater price.
Jasper nonetheless sells nicely on the Auction Home too, although generally for lower than Nightstones and often less than its old 9 gold price ground. Watch as Naughty Dog's Arne Meyer narrates the motion -- and his personal grisly demise -- from the Comic-Con show floor. The fact that they work intently with the state authorities of Texas goes a great distance to indicate just how credible they can be. It's beyond belief why somebody would need to harm such a uncommon and lovely chook this present day. This provision was challenged by Marc Bragg, a Second Life consumer who had his account banned for allegedly using an exploit to purchase land. Now, whenever you open the auction house, you will note a special interface. You might sit in Nagrand and farm primals all day, or run dungeons, receive enough loot to promote within the public sale home, and use that money to buy the primals from someone else. bestgoldira.info cannot sue someone you do not have jurisdiction over, which means the principles have to use to them as well for there to be any recourse, or the acts must have their nexus where jurisdiction could be relevant.
In concept, it will permit En Masse Entertainment's support workers entry to simple knowledge at a look, allowing any attempts at gold farming to be detected and stopped before the purpose that the money gets put up on the market. And while there are some good mounts for sale on the stable NPC, I'm really happy with my two-headed turtle in the intervening time as a result of it gets rarer and cooler with every passing day. While chosing the perfect gold particular person retirement account, you need to take right under consideration the prices linked with possessing a gold IRA. Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) has said habitat changes could see southern Scotland support sixteen breeding pairs. Offered: January 2014; Heritage Auctions, Enjoyable U.S. You still can't bid on your own auctions, nonetheless, so you'll need a good friend in case you plan to do any cross-faction arbitrage. You don't must babysit your auctions, and they should babysit theirs. In any case, in case you have a tailor with one of those recipes researched (or know one keen to work for suggestions), you can turn Windwool Cloth into blues, which you'll turn into Ethereal Shards day and night time. Commissions don't affect our editors’ opinions or evaluations. Home again Days 39 and 40
Saturday
Last day on the road – home tomorrow.
We packed up and were on the road by just after 10am – early for us.  We took a rather circuitous route through several touristy towns – crowded Clunes with their annual Book Festival (chock-a-block with cars and people everywhere), Castlemaine, Newstead and numerous others.  Had we taken the shortest route through Ballarat, Google told me it would be about 170 kilometres – but taking the more pleasant back roads meant it was 285 kilometres, but much less stressful and quite a pleasant drive.
We ate our lunch in a shady pullover but we did have had a technical issue for most of the trip that became more frustrating today.  Our main rear-vision mirror is a camera with a screen on the dashboard.  It has always been a little suspect because it depends on a curly connector (a woza) between the car and the van and it often needs to be wriggled a little to get it working – once going, it is usually fine but we spent ages trying to get it working today with no success.  It started working a few times before dying again – and once we had it going for at least fifty kilometres – but I think we really need to buy another one when we get home.
We arrived in Heathcote around 2pm and set up the van fairly quickly – although we were conscious of the need to remove much of our gear tomorrow so it took a little extra time to work around that.  We then drove out to Nathan and Vanessa’s distillery where we will be parking the van long-term from tomorrow.  They were very busy with lots of customers so we didn’t bother them more than necessary.  We had a look at the possible parking areas Nath had suggested and I think it might work a bit better than I had expected.  There are a few potential spots and they all seem pretty good.  We also had a wander through their vineyard and had a chat with their llamas and chooks before returning to the caravan.  Back at the caravan park, we did a little unpacking/repacking – mainly transferring stuff from the van to the car.  We emptied the fridge and separated most of the stuff we needed to take home from the items we will leave in the van and set up everything to make it as easy as possible to park the van tomorrow and be on our way home.
We had a series of texts with Nath and agreed to have dinner with him and Vanessa at their favourite pub, easy walking distance from their home.  We had a very enjoyable dinner with them and returned to the caravan only to discover that Heather didn’t have her bag.  We raced back to the pub and were relieved to be handed her bag by the owner as soon as we walked in.  We had moved from one table to another one when Nath and Vanessa had arrived and Heather had left her bag under the first table.  Fortunately, the owner had seen it and rescued it for us.
Sunday
We had expected to park the caravan at Nath’s distillery fairly early in the day, but he said they wouldn’t be at the properly until about noon so we had a lot more time than expected.  We met up at the farm and walked around inspecting more potential sites to park and selected the one that Nathan suggested – an excellent site for quite a few reasons.
We parked the caravan and set things up reasonably well but without a lot of precision because we will need to return to take clean linen and a few other things back there within a few weeks and will do a bit more on the van then.
(As it turned out, we returned two weeks later and stayed in the van overnight, doing quite a few minor jobs and organising things much more conveniently, making it a real home away from home any time we might want to hideout somewhere for a few days in the future.  It was a fantastic night, with dinner at the pub again with Vanessa and Nathan.  It also gave us an opportunity to do a bit of work on the farm, weeding around the distillery/cellar door, and collecting stones from the vineyard.  We hope to be able to help by doing a few unskilled jobs that aren’t too strenuous when we stay there from time to time in the future.)
We drove home in the late afternoon, bought fish and chips for dinner, and enjoyed being in our own house again.  (But we are still eager to spend more time away in the van!)
Final Comments
This trip was quite different from our usual excursions and probably not as enjoyable as some of our more exotic trips.  We spent most of the time in agricultural/pastoral areas, rather than 'the outback' that we love so much.  It was still fun but with fewer highlights than usual.  We enjoyed staying for longer periods at fewer places – a full week at each of Beaufort, Kingston and Port MacDonnell – and two or three nights at most of the other places we visited.  I spent less time birding and more time doing the tourist thing than is normal for us.  We learned the value of longer stays, but will try to find slightly more remote destinations in future.
A few nonsensical statistics…….  I identified 118 bird species, none of which were new to me, but some were still uncommon and quite interesting.  We drove 5513 kilometres, 1714 with the caravan in tow.  All up, we have now had 37 trips away in the caravan, travelled 220,126 kilometres, 137, 940 with the van behind us – and we have spent 1209 nights (well over 3 years) in the van.  I am quite sure nobody is interesting in any of this, but I am a recordkeeper and that is what my spreadsheet says.
That’s it for this trip.  Our next one is in a couple of weeks but just in the car without the caravan and I am not sure when we will be able to enjoy our little house on wheels again. We have a few other travels booked for this year and the next and I will probably write more blogs for at least some of them. So watch this space - or wait for an email inviting you to tag along with my future trips.

Sunday 20th August
Take 2 of Motorised Canoe trip! Up again 0445 . This time the wind is not mad and no rain so🤞. Must say was a bit harder to get up this morning😁.
Have just got back and it was magic! Weather perfect. Where you go is to 4 separate islands but all in a protected area(by islands and reef). Area is used a lot for kite surfing as apparently international standard. We went at the peak of high tide and it is not deep at all as you can easily see the bottom. It is another picture perfect environment . The group was 20 and all couples except me. Big advantage was as the canoes are 2 person I got to go with Kylie one of the guides. So thankfully didn’t have to start the motors or steer. I just sat in the bow and my only job was to drop the anchor when told😁. So I was able to look around and enjoy the trip with no responsibilities 😁.
The canoes are motorised outrigger canoes. The motor looks a bit like a glorified lawn mower engine😂.We got a very quick introduction on how to start the motors and when, how to turn them off quickly and when and how to steer. Also what to do if we got in trouble. Kylie’s husband Ash comes with a motor boat and Kylie leads and he brings up the rear. Some of the men knew boats but some were pretty challenged as I was but by the end everyone was looking pretty confident. We only had trouble with one engine and that was my boat and as Kylie the driver not a drama. It is Ash’s job to fix the mechanical/motor issues as they arise on the hop so to speak.
The first trip in the canoes was the longest and most challenging as a bit of swell and chop so got soaking wet but was going to be anyway! They do loan you wet bags for your gear to protect them from getting wet. In the chop the canoes can take on water and they have a handy thing to bail water that gets in If needed. Some is ok but to much isn’t! You are told you will get wet in the canoes!.
Our first stop was an island that they had set up tables and there looked to be a bit of a structure on it though not sure what is for. Kylie put some food scraps out for the 1 remaining chook on the island and it also brings lots hermit crabs. We then were served cheeses, ham some salmon with sourdough bread, biscuits and dips. With that was choice cool drinks, beer or Champagne. Very civilised as we all stood on the beach and chatted. Ash then told us we were going to have a Hermit crab race. He drew a big circle and then another one just inside it and a small one in the middle. We all got ourselves a crab put them in the inner circle and we stood on the outer one. The first crab to reach the circle before the one we were standing on won. My crab came equal 3rd after a slow start. He came up from behind 🤣🤣.
We then went over to an island that has a colony of endangered skinks and did a count of what we saw in 3 designated areas. This is done for parks and wildlife to help keep tabs on them. Sort of citizen science. The next island we stopped and walked through a path across the island(about 10mins max) saw a huge frangipani tree the size of a coconut palm and popped out in an area that apparently at low tide you can walk from tiny island to the next on and there are lots! This area apparently is a big one for bird lovers as a type of bird that does get to Australia ones in migrations at certain time year. Sorry don’t remember all the specifics as not into birds😁.
This island is also the one the locals come and spend the day or camp (not legal but the locals ignore it😂) Johnny Clunies Ross who lives on West Island camps there a lot apparently 😁. Beautiful place if you have a little dingy to come across as a family even for the day which they do. Saw lots families enjoying it, cooking little gas fired burners I assume they bring themselves. Lots shade, very safe for kids, couple hammock s set up, pretty perfect! Ash also did a coconut husking demonstration and we tried the flesh of the ripe coconut and of one that was not fully mature so the white bit filled the whole nut and was soft rather than just the edges of the harder coconut meat. Some people tried to husk one themselves as we had the option. As the husk uses a star picket sticking about 30-40 cm out of the ground it is a bit risky but none got hurt trying.
We then went to the island from which we did snorkelling. I have developed a problem keeping my face down when snorkelling, partly due to be concerned I would end up off course and separated from my group and partly because my claustrophobia seems to kick in. So it was with some trepidation I decided to at least try. The idea was to snorkel around the island and pop out the other side directly opposite where our canoes were and walk to them. As it turns out the walk was about 2 mins😁. Kylie led us and Ash stood on a headland with a life buoy in case anyone got into trouble. Have to say pretty hard to do so given it is quite shallow and you can stand but have to be careful to stand on sand bits and not on the corals, but as you turn the headland there is a strong current. Fortunately it just pulls you to the sandbar near where we were to get out. However to see some really good bits you need to swim against it to get there and I am obviously not a strong enough swimmer as I couldn’t quite make it. However I bobbed up a few times when saw sand and then snorkelled so did see heaps. Saw lots fish with some swimming so close they would almost touch your goggles, Corals, sea cucumbers, reef sharks babies, and 4 turtles! It was well worth braving it even if I did pop up a few times😂😂.
We then helped put the canoes up and got driven home. It was a magic day and if tomorrow is the same weather my Turtle tour should be the same.🤞.
Comment
They advertise for kids and any age group . The website actually says you have to be able to get in and out of a canoes and moderate fitness. However we had an obese man and his elderly father who uses a walking stick turn up. They ended up not coming when they realised that some physical stuff was needed. They were offered a ride with Ash in the boat but the elderly man would not have been able to get into it. You have to be able to at the very least get into the canoes backside first, no step ins, obviously you have to be able to get out and sling an anchor, walk in water and on a track that whilst flat is strewn with dead coconut fronds and fallen coconut trees you have to step over. You don’t have to snorkel so that is fine. They also provide snorkelling gear if you don’t have it and they have a few reef shoes and Crocs you can use assuming they fit😁.
Although told to bring bathers(in fact you need to wear them as no place to change and anyway you get wet as soon as you head out on the first leg😂.) some people just wore shorts and top or those Kathmandu long travel trousers. I assume because they didn’t intend to snorkel they assumed they wouldn’t need bathers😏.
I would definitely recommend this tour, well worth it.
We were also told that Cocos is suffering with affects climate change. The seas are rising, sea temps increasing and tides changing. There has also been a loss of their sea grass due to the dredging done to created and build the Ferry Jetty which took years longer than predicted . This is what killed off the sea grass and with it the food for Green Turtles who have had to compete with the other type for the centre of corals.Plus loss of some fish.
Also there is the work on the runway that is being done by RAAF and apparently they expect to have a RAAF base here in a few years. So this little idyllic island will change.☹️
A few photos of the motorised canoe trip. Don’t do it justice ! I used the canoe again next day when did the Turtle Tour again with Kylie working the motor 😁. Also couple of the crab race😁

Chook & Sosig Walk the Plank | Part 1
Tumblr media
The Adventurer's Log
Release Date: 2019
It's time for some point and click role-playing pirates. Chook & Sosig is an indie game I got in one of the giant itch.io bundles (it's also on Steam) ages ago and kept meaning to get around to and not actually doing so. Its time has come.
I did find out after my first session that the dev had made a few tiny free games previous to this one that would have probably given more context and more of an introduction to these characters, but that's okay. The characters get introduced at the start and I'm not feeling like I'm missing too much by not having played them. Just go with the flow!
So this is your standard point & click with the pointing and the clicking and inventory, but it's framed as a group of anthropomorphic characters, both dead and alive, who have come together in the pub to play a role-playing game and their game master has set it for a pirate theme. So the game itself is set in this pirate game, while it occasionally goes back to the gaming table for some banter and comments from the players.
To introduce our group of players we've got:
Sosig: The blue spaghetti cat, one of the two titular characters and the one we play.
Chook: A ghost chicken and Sosig's buddy. I'm not sure anyone else is actually aware of her? She also acts as the hint system because she peeked at the GM's notes.
Cow: An undead cow head, one of Sosig's best friends and proud to be one of the living dead.
Exley: The owner of the pub, the Cheeky Unicorn, and the Game master here. Also undead, an undead sheep.
Tumblr media
From left to right: Sosig, Chook, Cow, Exley.
Hebble: An energetic and playful fox who theoretically helps Exley at the bar, and seems to be a bit of a mischief maker.
Min: A bat who is also the only psychic around and keeping Hebble in line here.
Tumblr media
From left to right: Exley, Hebble, Min.
Going with the flow and hey, alive or dead, they're all kind of cute.
With introductions out of the way we got started landing us on the first island:
Tumblr media
Cape Codnapper.
And Sosig looking the part with his bandana hat and eyepatch. The first goal was to find the other characters. I went to the building first which turned out to be a shop owned by Cow. Although Cow was really using it more as an excuse for a place to store his hoarded items. Customers ew.
Tumblr media
Customers are unfortunate consequences that must be dealt with.
I examined all the things, including that gold fish who was apparently washed up in that bowl and rescued by Cow who would like to get him a proper tank (eventual puzzle goal?), and of course, I had a chat with Cow. I was also able to get the torch off the wall and Cow just let me have it.
Back outside I then met Min's character, a somewhat superstitious pirate.
Tumblr media
She wants to set sail, but the fountain has stopped running and it's apparently bad luck to sail while the fountain is stopped. Our first goal is here!
She also talks about a treasure on a haunted island and a wish granting Sea Goddess. Goals?
At the other end of the island I found the dry fountain and Chook. Chook was playing a retired pirate because she didn't want to do anything except hang out and provide clues and hints.
Nearby, was Hebble playing a fortune-teller, or attempting to anyway.
Tumblr media
He was having trouble getting the crystal ball to work. He also gave me info though: Cow was the one to stop the fountain by pulling out a side panel and doing something in there.
I pulled out the panel and found a series of switches for which I'd obviously need a code.
Tumblr media
I went back to question Cow. He did turn it off so that people would have to stay, and as the only shop here, they'd have to buy from him. Since he doesn't like customers he'd just sky rocket the prices so simply selling one item a month would keep him afloat. I had a few different threatening choices such as the dreaded cruise ship and browsing oh no, and got him to break with the threat of greasy kids getting their greasy hands all over everything.
Exley wasn't entirely happy with Cow's character breaking so easily, but Sosig is apparently persuasive. Greasy kids, nooo!
He sent me on a trail through a small series of notes that ultimately led to a note with the right code and so I was able to activate the fountain and set sail!
Tumblr media
Not many islands. Yet. There was more map to be found.
I first went to a sea shrine. There were doors with a couple statues with movable arms that would affect panels above the door raising them up and down. I assumed I'd need a bit more info before dealing with that so I left it. (Spoiler: I did not need more info).
Then I went to a place called the Adventurer's Guild.
Tumblr media
I met another character Hebble was playing, this time a very enthusiastic hunter... who just loves animals... on the wall where they won't keep running around and acting up. Pleasant. And he just loves displaying things... But he also had a map kicking around. Once I was able to find it I discovered it was also missing islands but it turned out he'd put them down in ultraviolet ink to keep pirates away. He didn't believe Sosig was a pirate though. I would need ultraviolet light to read the map so there was the next goal!
I then found Goblin Isle with a handy-dandy information sign.
Tumblr media
From the sign I learned, among other things, of a luminescent orchid that gives off ultraviolet light.
Further in I found the orchid but it wasn't doing well because it was shaded by foliage. Then I found the goblins themselves. The group complained about there being goblins in a pirate themed game, but Exley didn't have pirate figures and did have goblins, so he'd make them fit. I'll take goblins anywhere!
They also had a parrot! And some scissors. The goblins were making soup for themselves and as an offering to the sea goddess, but they needed fire to actually cook it. If I could bring them fire, they'd let me have the scissors. What they did let me take was their beloved bitey parrot 'child', so the parrot could go travelling and learn. After all:
Tumblr media
"A well-educated goblin... is a DANGEROUS goblin. Wise words to live by. This whole bit was adorable.
I went back to the Adventurer's Guild and Cape Codnapper in search of fire. I had no luck but I was able to get the parrot to bite the cork or whatever off a keg of rum and what else do you with rum but soak your unlit torch in it? Still no fire.
I went back to the sea shrine as the still unsolved area and this time got the door. It really was just trial and error and paying attention to what moved what... mainly trial and error for me. It opened into a cave with a lit torch where I was able to get fire for my rum-soaked torch. Deeper down I found another character played by Cow.
Cow was claiming to be a part of a cult selling Goddess Water. 100% not a multi-level marketing scheme nosiree. He also writes poems, but no one likes them and all left, so now it's just him and a pile of bottles of the 'best water'. But Sosig asked to join and got a voucher to use at the shop.
I went back to Goblin Isle with my lit torch. Sosig comments on it staying lit in the rain at the sea shrine island, so I assume the fire would have gone out if I hadn't soaked the torch in rum first. Some unknown advance planning there!
The goblins let me take the scissors in return for the fire, but the scissors were too dull to cut with. Taking the voucher back to the shop I was able to use it to search Cow's junk bin where I found some sandpaper and could use that on the scissors. Then I was able to cut the foliage, get the orchid and bring it back to read the map, unlocking more islands to visit.
I'm still not sure what the plot will end up being, but by Min's comments, the goblin talk and the Goddess water I'm assuming I'll need to find the treasure and the Sea Goddess? Exley, what's the plan!
My plan was to check out the new islands.
I first went to Forsaken Atoll where I found Viking Min.
Tumblr media
She told me about how she and her crew were looking for the Sea Goddess to grant them a wish for a bigger boat. But they got lost and she's an aggressive sailor. She crashed the boat and her crew left her. I was able to light her fire and warm her feet though...! I couldn't do anything else here. Maybe later?
I then found a tavern, The Beast Below.
Tumblr media
There were a few important points here. Cow's character runs the place with Hebble's character helping as the waitstaff.
Outside are some gulls for a Gull Mail service. One of them was particularly grumpy and feral and tore up a bunch of letters and flyers for its own nesting, but really the gull success rate in general for their mail delivery was only about 50%.
There is a cocktail menu but I can't order any until proving myself a hero and none of my deeds so far were heroic enough.
There's also a customer feedback book in which everything written was done by Hebble.
Hebble is just on break because no customers means breaks though he may be feeding Cow some white lies about how exactly that works. He was also the one to suggest the cocktail menu instead of the more pirate-y goodness, which led to all their customers leaving previously. Pirates! They want grog, not cocktails!
To use the gull mail service a mail token was needed. Cow would give me only if I got a mail card. I could get one from a business he sent some too. He also set up the gull service as competition to the bottle mail service run by goblins because he doesn't like goblins and also wanted a use for the feral seagulls outside.
From there I went next to an island that turned out to be said Bottle Mail Central run by goblins and another of Min's characters, the Goblin Queen. She did not like the gull mail service. The gulls keep ripping up the haunted treasure flyers even removing the address! One of those flyers would be useful for us... Pirate and treasure after all.
The party once more commented on the goblins.
Tumblr media
Hey, I'm not complaining. Use those goblins.
Hebble brought up having lots of dinosaurs too and even a dragon. Exley shut him down. But dinosaurs! I'm with Hebble here.
Anyhoo, Min was happy to give me her mail card as she wanted nothing to do with the seagull service, and had left it with one of the bottle goblins. Unfortunately, that goblin lost it to a polar bear. That polar bear likely ended up at the Adventurer's Guild as there aren't normally polar bears around, so if it's there it's likely the one.
It sure did end there! As a rug... I found the card in its mouth but had to open it. The tail was also a spot to interact with and pulling it did open the mouth but I needed a way to hold the tail in place to keep the mouth open. Parrot time again.
Tumblr media
I got the card!
Before I went back to the tavern I made a stop by the last island I hadn't checked out yet. Secret Reef.
Tumblr media
There was a sad gull. I was able to light a fire in the stove and get a tap dripping on the hot plate, but otherwise couldn't find anything to do here at the moment, so another place for later I suppose.
Then I went back to give the card to Cow and get my token. The token caused a bell to go up a pulley alerting two of the three gulls and getting them to leave their nests but not the third at the top, which was the one I really wanted, because the pulley got stuck on a knot I had to cut first. That got the top gull to move. It came down with a flyer piece in its beak but was too angry to let me near. I'd need a way to calm it.
Like...a calming poem? Goddess Water Cow was willing to write one but needed a pen; his were dried up. He previously bought his from the wonderful shop on Cap Codnapper. So, onward.
Nah, never that easy. Shopkeeper Cow no longer had any pens due to waitstaff Hebble buying them all. Back to the tavern, where Hebble was willing to give me one but only if I wrote a good review for him. Sosig promised to do so, but the pen is out of ink.
And so that's my next goal. Try to find some ink. I'm not actually sure where to go about doing. Hebble suggested the ink of octopus and other similar critters. I'll see what I can find next time...

Rocking Horse
Six year old Cindy Watson is curled up in her bed too afraid to make a peep.
Her parents are out in the living room having another argument about money 'Bob why can't you get off your big fat arse and get a job, you have a family to support in case you haven't noticed.'
'Give it a rest Gail, you know that I have a bad back and the doctors have told me to take it easy for a while.'
'Christ Bob it has been nine months since your accident and don't think that i haven't noticed that you have no trouble bending over to get a beer from the fridge every hour.'
'Please Bob first thing tomorrow morning I want you to drive into town to see what jobs are going because money is tight and doesn't grow on trees as you well know.'
It is the summer of 1976 in North West NSW Australia and the heat is stifling and Gail Watson is frazzled trying to cope with the heat out in the middle of nowhere trying to make ends meet because of a good for nothing husband who just wants to sit around drinking all day.
When they got married seven years ago in Sydney Gail was a striking 20 year old who worshipped the ground that her husband walked on.
He was a stockbroker with a bright future and Gail planned on becoming a nurse but a few months after they tied the knot Gail fell pregnant and Bob had a great idea to move out to Dunnedoo to escape the rat race.
But now Gail is struggling to cope without a support group of family and friends to lean on and also Bob's promising future is now nothing but a pipe dream.
Cindy finally drifts off to sleep around midnight but it is a restless sleep because listening to her parents argue and bicker every day is starting to get her down plus now she is having nightly nightmares.
Just after sunrise her mummy shakes her awake 'Time to get out of bed sweetheart, I have made your favorite, bacon and eggs and with baked tomatoes and onions.'
'Don't forget to do your chores after breakfast than hurry back inside because you wouldn't want to miss the school bus would you.'
Mother and daughter share a smile because they both know that Cindy would rather stay at home and ride her rocking horse all day.
'When you have finished the chores go and have a wash and change into your school uniform than you can ride your rocking horse until the bus comes.'
Even though a strong breeze would probably blow her over Cindy scoffs down a huge breakfast before she scampers outside to the chook shed where she collects a basket full of eggs, feeds the horses out in the stable than she washes up and changes into her school uniform before rushing out to the front verandah where the rocking horse waits for her.
The horse is old with chipped paint with a missing ear but to Cindy it is her whole world.
She is afraid of the horses currently eating fresh bales of hay but the rocking horse doesn't bite or kick plus it listens to her without interrupting her while she pours her heart out.
Patting the horses neck Cindy whispers 'One day I will leave this place and go to Dubbo where I will rob a bank like the bushrangers did back in the old days and give every dollar to mummy and daddy so they stop fighting and perhaps find time to give me a baby brother.'
Cindy continues to chat away for a while before a flash of yellow catches her eye and reluctantly she climbs off the rocking horse after saying goodby to her parents Cindy runs down the driveway and boards the school bus.
She is a pupil at the Dunnedoo Public School where she studies hard most of the time but like all kids sometimes her mind will wander and Miss Walpole an old battle axe with a temper of a mule will chastise her 'Cindy Watson stop looking out of the window and concentrate on the lesson because if you don't you will end up being stuck out here with few prospects but farming or working in the pub.'
A few of the other kids laugh at Cindy's discomfort and she is tempted to give them the finger but she decides to ignore the brats and knuckle down while she waits for the school bell to ring.
Six years have passed and Cindy Watson is now 12 years old and she is no longer a little girl with pigtails and a fondness for Barbie dolls and chocolate now she attends Dubbo High School where the kids are all bigger than her but they treat her good except for one of the school bullies 14 year old Elizabeth Hardcastle who face a face like a bulldog and smells like a blocked outhouse.
But on a positive side her father has given up drinking and works in the local bank while her mum manages the supermarket.
But unfortunately she is still an only child.
She only rides the rocking horse once or twice a week these days but when she rides Cindy still talks to her horse and dreams about moving away she also asks the rocking horse for advice about how she can get back at Elizabeth Hardcastle who makes her school days a misery.
The latest idea is to swap the bullies lip balm with super glue which should keep her quiet for a while.
But deep down Cindy knows that she could never hurt anyone no matter how nasty they are so she closes her eyes as she sways back and forth on her rocking horse and the built up tension drains from her body.
Soon Cindy goes inside for dinner and to watch the 'Brady Bunch' her favorite TV program.
While she eats and watches her show Cindy is unaware that a young aboriginal boy has been watching her while she rides the rocking horse.
Fifteen year old Warren Mundine knows that the girl has a desire to move away and start a new life someplace else.
For the past month he has waited until the lights inside the house were all turned off than he would walk up onto the verandah and sprinkle sprigs of Banksia and Bunya Pine all around the feet of the rocking horse.
Under the moonlight Warren would perform a ceremonial dance that his ancestors have been doing for thousands of years.
Adorned in ochre paint and lithe of limb Warren would dance for hours until the sun started to rise in the eastern sky.
Suddenly storm clouds gathered and lighting crackled and fizzed and under natures light show the wooden rocking horse began to began to sway back and forth of its own accord.
'Lightning by name Lightning by nature' the lad whispered before disappearing into the landscape like a ghost of times gone by.
Cindy wakes an hour later, which is strange for her, because she had to be shaken awake especially on a school day.
She smells the morning air and her nose picks up a strong scent coming from the front verandah.
She takes another whiff and recognizes the scent of pine which is strange because there aren't any pine trees within a hundred miles from her house.
Cindy opens the front door and notices that the rocking horse is standing in the center of a ring of different kinds of sprigs and leaves.
That is strange she thinks but because it almost looks like the sprigs have been put there by somebody but when she realizes how stupid that sounds Cindy climbs onto the wooden horse 'Good morning Lightning'.
Instantly Cindy's mind recoils Why did I just call the rocking horse Lightning?'
Than she remembers the dream she had last night where she dreamt about how the rocking horse grew a pair of wings like Pegasus than took flight carrying her away from Dunnedoo taking her to every corner of the world giving her a glimpse of what is out there.
Also in the corner of the dream a small aboriginal boy called out and named the horse Lightning before just as quickly he vanished in the mist.
Cindy's skin tingles in the cold and her eyes gaze out beyond the front fence to where orange dust twists in the wind.
The aboriginal boy looked so real, could he really be out there somewhere?
After another boring day at school Cindy is eager to get home to see if anymore sprigs have been left on the verandah.
When the bell rings she squeals in delight and quickly boards the bus that will take her back to Dunnedoo but the trip will take at least an hour.
In her hand she clutches a report card that doesn't make for good reading C in English D in History and an F in both reading and writing.
She is tempted to throw the card out of the bus window but the headmaster told all of the pupils at assembly this morning that all of the parents knew that the report cards were due today so Cindy stuffs the card in her school bag and mopes the rest of the way home.
When the bus stops outside her house Cindy says goodbye to her friends but when she goes to thank the bus driver the boy sitting behind him turns around and Cindy gasps 'Holy shit you are the boy who was in my dream last night but when she takes another look the boy is nowhere to be seen.
Mister Green the bus driver is keen to be on his way 'Are you okay Cindy, you look a little pale.'
Cindy splutters 'Mister Green where did the aboriginal boy who was sitting behind go to?
'Cindy there are only ten kids who get on the bus and none of them are aboriginal.'
One hundred yards behind Warren hides amongst the scrub beside the road, he now know that tonight will be the night to kickstart a thousand tomorrows.
Not quite believing the bus driver Cindy exits the bus and walks inside the house leaving the report on the kitchen table than she goes outside and has a look around but there are no new sprigs.
She climbs onto Lightnings saddle and yells 'Alright Lightening why don't we ride all the way to Sydney because I have a feeling I am about to get yelled at.'
As she rides Cindy thinks about the boy on the bus today, she is positive that he doesn't attend her school so why was he on the school bus? But also how can he have disappeared into thin air?'
While her mind is working overtime Cindy doesn't at first notice the wooden horses hooves jitter as he prepares to take off.
Suddenly Lightning rears up on his hind legs leaving a pile of rocking horse shit behind before taking off in the direction of Merriwa.
'Woah boy not so fast we need to make a detour first, swing a left here than a quick right.'
'There should be a yellow house just up ahead, there it is Lightning now walk into the front yard and wait 'Hey Elizabeth, are you home you ugly fat scrag, come outside before I go in there and drag you out.'
Elizabeth Hardcastle the school bully races outside to see who would have the nerve to come to her home and call her names 'Well if it isn't little Cindy Watson and her nag.
The nasty schoolgirl makes the mistake of reaching up to drag Cindy from her mount because instead Cindy grabs her by the ponytail than tells Lightning to take off.
Lightening unfurls two golden wings and raises into the air with Elizabeth screaming her lungs out.
Cindy whispers into Lightnings ear 'I don't want to hurt her but I need to teach her a lesson so on the next block there is a huge eagles nest on top of a tall Bunya tree,
Lightning quickly locates the nest that appears to be abandoned and slowly swoops in and stops a couple of feet above the nest, Cindy tells Elizabeth that it is time for her to get off but the bully isn't keen on that idea and clings on for grim death.'
Lightning swings his head around and grabs the screaming girl by the top of her jeans and drops her onto the nest fifty feet above the ground.
Cindy in all the excitement fails to notice a small aboriginal boy running behind Lightning but he can't keep up and soon vanishes from view.
BIZZ BIZZ BIZZ BIZZ BIZZ
Twenty six year old Cindy Watson still half asleep hits the snooze button to silence the annoying sound.
As she gets dressed Cindy vaguely remembers dreaming about a rocking chair that she used to ride when she was a kid.
Cindy still lives in the same house that she grew up in but sadly her parents are no longer alive to give her guidance to their only child but their presence lingers in every room even though it has been eight years since they perished in a car crash on their way to visit relatives down in Victoria.
After finishing her morning routine Cindy looks around the old farmhouse and she is glad that she stayed in Dunnedoo because this is her home and where she belongs.
At 8.30 she locks the front door takes a quick glance to the corner of the verandah where the rocking horse stood pride of place than she walks the short distance to the pub where she works pulling beers for the locals and travelers alike.
As she wipes the bar clean only half listening to one of the regulars as he tells a story about his time living up north hunting crocodiles Cindy often gazes out the window thinking about what her life would have been like if she everworked up the courage to leave.
But at the same time Cindy loves her sleepy little town and really wouldn't want to live anywhere else and hopefully one day she will meet a man and settle down in Dunnedoo.
She takes one last look outside before getting back to work and remembers an old saying 'It doesn't matter how close you get to the horizon because it will always be in the distance.'
In a storage shed on the other side of town an old rocking horse sits forlorn and forgotten, covered in dust and spider webs.
It has been fourteen years since anyone sat in his saddle, fourteen years kept in the dark.
In all of that time his wooden black eyes have stared blankly at the roller doors waiting for them to open.
The rocking horse knows that sooner or later the door will open, the sun will stream in and he will run like he has never run before.
Three doors down from the storage shed a young aboriginal man is bent over the bonnet of an old Holden ute as he tries to fix a faulty fuel hose 'Hey Warren when you have finished with the ute come and give me a hand over here.'
Warren is good with his hands and can repair just about anything and he is glad that his boss gave him this job a few months back because it is hard for any aboriginal man to find work anywhere 'Sure thing Nigel just give me five minutes and I will be with you.'
As he stands up straight to flex his back Warren looks longingly across town to where his favorite pub is located.
It will be good to sink a few beers after work but the main reason to visit the waterhole will be to walk in and work up the courage to finally ask the barmaid Cindy Watson out on a date.
THE END.
Patr Two is on the way so hold your horses.

Emiliano Fernandez in NYC, Day 12
Meeting in a cafe in Brooklyn for Climate Week for a clean up event around the neighbourhood. Big concurrence, I actually admire the power from the young(er) people that I have met in NYC, their commitment to community events. We walked around Brooklyn for about one house picking up rubbish and chatting (this is definitely not a fancy area, hence, estrange objects were found). They were very engaging in conversations and I can say that is was very easy to connect. The neighbours were also intrigued by out actions and approached us to ask about what we were doing and how to participate in the future. My best finding was a chook’s head.
After, I went to Green-Wood Cemetery, a 478 acre (193 ha) also in Brooklyn. This massive cemetery hosts not only a couple of distinguished people, but also a great collection of flora and fauna. The entrance on 25th street is Gothic arch with a massive nest of birds living on the highest point. Founded in 1838 by the design of David Bates Douglass, who was against calling the cemetery a necropolis, and thought the site should also attract the living. Here I wondered for a few hours, and visited the tomb of Do-Hum-Me, princess of the Thâkîwaki (“people coming forth from the water”) and Meskwâki (“people of the red earth”) who travelled to New York in 1843 and was forced to perform daily war dances to increase ticket sales in museums. She died 5 weeks after her wedding with a warrior called Cow-Hick-Kee, at the age of 18 of an illness product of the encounter with the white immigrants.

We had our sheep shorn today. We've had the same guy shearing our sheep for 30 years. I always remember it being a super exciting day. We've only ever had a comparatively small amount of sheep, 5-7ish. We didn't have any for a while but we got a couple of newborn lambs a few years ago that had been born on the truck that was heading to the abattoirs. It worked out cos they needed a place to go and we needed some lawnmowers.
Cut to now and those 2 eventually grew into the 9 we have now plus two Alpacas to protect them from foxes. We used to eat them and home butchered them when I was a kid. Haven't done that for years and years now. They're much better as pets.
Growing up on a small farm and doing our own butchering was definitely considered a normal thing, particularly around here. Raising sheep, calves, pigs, chooks and geese for meat was the most normal thing. It wasn't until I was at Uni and I was chatting to a couple of people about where meat comes from, butcher vs suprmarket etc and I mentioned that we rarely go to either because we breed our own meat. It wasn't until I was in this conversation at 18 or 19 years of age that I realised that it was a bit weird to raise an animal purely for meat.
We would always name our animals. The first one of mine that was done into meat was called Stephen. He was a Murray Grey calf that we raised from a calf. He was very quite and the day the guy came to 'put him in the freezer' Mum picked me up from school so I could come home and say goodbye before the deed was done. At the time it didn't feel weird, it was so normalised. It took me a while after he was freezered before I could bring myself to eat him. It was the first time I had considered eating meat as eating another living thing. Even though we'd been doing it for a while, this was the first one that I personally had raised and given a name to.
That's why most farmers know their animals as a number on an ear tag. Once they have a name they're much harder to kill and eat because they are somebody with a name.
Maybe naming farm animals should be compulsory?
Do I still eat meat? Yes, somtimes.
Do I eat as much as I used to? Definitely not. I've cut it down heaps.
Am I trying to stop? Yes.
In the interim though, we have some very cute and friendly lawn mowers who are now ready for the summer weather without their winter wooly coats on.
