The thing with KoD is that once again, PB didn’t have to make MC some wide-eyed, toothless girl who doesn’t know anything to achieve the same conflict with her parents and the tension with Vic. They could’ve had her be knowledgeable and savvy and tough yet put off by the realities of being a member of the mob, which would still lead to her constantly trying to do things differently/only using mob tactics as a last resort and her mom’s disappointment in her. *I think that would’ve been much more compelling, especially if they illustrated how battle-weary she was despite being so young due to all of the things she’s seen up to now. Because as it is, I cannot take her seriously AND I can see why her parents are so annoyed with/have no faith in her. She literally has all of this lived experience, but knows how to apply none of it and has to have her hand held through every freaking step! So it’s no wonder the story is already a flop

*Actually, I think having a ruthless MC who doesn’t give a shit and is a stereotypical mob member out for blood would be more interesting. But I know PB would never do this, especially not in their current state 😒

Kiss of Death would arguably be better had the writers focused more on the mafia aspect of the story and naturally incorporating the romance between the two characters throughout it rather than focusing more on forcing this “Romeo and Juliet” relationship and letting the mafia aspect take a back seat. But my guess is if the romance didn’t take priority, they wouldn’t be making as much as they want. Which is a shame because this story yet again had potential to be good,but got unfortunately stifled by forced romance and unnecessary hornyness.

The one thing the writers consistently do to shoot themselves in the foot is trying to force romance and chemistry between two characters that becomes almost comical. Which helps explain why there’s so much unnecessary hornyness in even the most bizarre places. And why we get so many sex scenes every chapter. Because it’s so much easier to throw in sex scene after sex scene and then having to write the two characters naturally progressing in their relationship. How many of these books have had two characters just bang their brains out every chapter and then go “OH MY GOD IM SO IN LOVE WITH THEM!”

I just wished PB realized that a lot of the love interests we fell in love with recently and a lot of their recent stories like Cas and Gabe from Immortal Desires, Trystan from Crimes of Passion, Gabe and Aislinn from Laws of Attraction, Arthur and Lancelot from Guinevere, were so highly praised not because they were banging our brains out every chapter, but rather, because the relationship between the characters got to play out and grow naturally since it was incorporated seamlessly into the main plot without feeling like it overtook the entire plot itself.

Plus, it also helps that those characters above aren’t the recycled PB smut love interest personality-completely dry and flavorless like flour or completely overstimulated and obsessively horny 24/7.
