I just had an idea. This kinda just stems from something that happens on the roleplay I'm in, but what if Jones could see the people that he lost over the years while he worked? Imagine if at the time of his attempt, outside of the encougement from the player, Chief King, Nathan, Rupert, Zoe, and Mia (they still likely had interacted with each other multiple times) while he was in the hospital were encouraging him to keep going.

Criminal Case AI Writing Prompt - Cathy and Alex's Dance Ver 1
As Alex took Cathy's hand, they began to dance slowly, wrapping their arms around each other. Cathy rested her head on Alex's chest, her tears drying as she felt safe in his arms. The two were lost in their own world, swaying to the rhythm of their own beating hearts.
Suddenly, the doors of the prom hall burst open, and Chief King stood at the entrance, glaring at his granddaughter in disapproval. Alex quickly let go of Cathy and stepped in front of her, shielding her from her grandfather's wrath.
"Chief, please, she's just upset. Let her be," Alex said in a calm voice.
"You have no idea what you're talking about, boy. My granddaughter has no business involving herself in criminal investigations. It's not safe, and it's not appropriate for a young lady like her," Chief King barked.
Cathy stepped out from behind Alex and faced her grandfather, her eyes blazing with anger.
"You don't get to decide what I'm capable of, Grandpa. I'm not just some fragile little girl who needs protecting. I can take care of myself, and I can make a difference in this city. Whether you like it or not, I'm going to continue helping Detective Jones and the player solve cases, because that's what I'm good at."
Chief King's face softened slightly as he looked at his granddaughter. "Cathy, I understand that you want to help, but I just can't bear the thought of anything happening to you. You're all I have left."
Cathy sighed and hugged her grandfather.
"I know, Grandpa. And I appreciate that you care about me. But you have to trust me. I'm not going to do anything stupid, and I'm not going to put myself in danger. I just want to make this city a better place, and I can do that by working with Jones and the player."
Chief King hesitated for a moment before finally nodding in agreement.
"Alright, Cathy. I'll trust you. But you have to promise me that you'll be careful, and you'll let me know if anything happens."
"I promise," Cathy said with a smile, relieved that her grandfather had finally seen her worth.
Alex looked on, happy to see the two reconciling, and he couldn't help but feel a surge of love for Cathy. He knew then and there that he would do anything to protect her, and to make her happy.
As the three of them walked out of the prom hall, Cathy took Alex's hand, and the two of them smiled at each other, lost in their own world once again. They were ready for whatever challenges lay ahead, as long as they had each other.

Criminal Case: The Fanfic Saga - Sleepless Nights (Grimsborough/Conspiracy: Interlude) (on Wattpad)
Sleepless Nights - Focuses on Cathy's struggle moving on from her Grandfather's death. She suffers from lack of sleep due to trauma nightmares which are linked to her Grandfather and his deeds within the Crimson Order, and has a hard time dealing with it.
(I was trying to test my writing ability to set the scene without anything actually happening, and it took my 4 years to finish bc i kept giving up LMAO. Anyway, go read it)

I have a small feeling that Chief King would unironically relate to “Viva la Vida” by Coldplay.
No, I will not elaborate further.
